- Abstract
The increasing life expectancy at birth and the improvement of general health observed worldwide over the previous years are likely due to many factors. In this regard, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has highlighted the favourable situation of the Italian population, which is amongst the most privileged in the world. In Italy, the national healthcare system is easily accessible to the whole population without direct costs, and alcohol abuse and cigarette smoke are less widespread compared to neighbouring countries. Moreover, the population still largely follows a dietary pattern characterised by the consumption of foods rich in protective compounds (plant foods and their components, such as fibre, polyphenols and polyunsaturated fatty acids). According to recent data, a significant consumption of these foods, which are key components of the Mediterranean model, is likely to play a more important role compared to the limited consumption of nutrients considered less favourable (essentially, saturated fat and sugar). Based on these assumptions, it can be inferred that the adoption of coercive legislative interventions—which have been introduced in other western countries to improve diet quality—may not be an optimal strategy in a country like Italy. Such an intervention would contend with psychological and social aspects (namely with the belief that participating in decision-making is an essential right) and with broader indications emerging in the research within this field (the effectiveness of a nudge approach as opposed to constraining interventions). These factors may limit any expected positive impact on health within this context. Level of evidence: Level V, narrative review.

Abstract Background The prevalence of mental illness and psychological suffering is greater than the availability of primary care services in Europe and, in particular, in Italy. The main barriers that hinder the access to these services are economic, the lack of proximity of services and some prejudices that may promote stigma and shame. A new mental health service, named “Psychologist in the Neighbourhood” was created to intercept unexpressed needs for psychological assistance. The service allows everyone to ask for free psychological consultation, consisting of no more than four meetings with a psychologist, in certain chemists’ shops around the city of Milan. This article aims to present the service specific features of this initiative and the results of a pilot study. Methods Information gathered on all users included socio-demographic data, the reasons why they approached this specific service, how they learnt about it, the main presented problem and, for a random sub-group, the level of psychological well-being (as measured by the PGWBI). Socio-demographic data were compared with previously collected information about general users of psychological services. The outcome of the intervention was assessed by the clinicians. Results During the two-year project a total of 1,775 people accessed the service. Compared to traditional users of psychological services, the participants in this service were characterized by a higher presence of females, unemployed and retired people. The main factors encouraging access were proximity and the fact that the service was free of charge. Many of the users were redirected to more specific services, while for about a third of the sample the consultation cycle was sufficient to resolve the presented problem. Conclusions The interest and participation of the population was high and this initiative intercepted an unexpressed requirement for psychological support. Free access and home proximity, were the main reasons for accessing this specific service. Subjects were mostly re-directed to appropriate services, while about a third of the sample addressed and resolved their problem with the psychologist in the chemist’s shop. These encouraging results suggest the benefits of bringing psychological consultations closer to citizens, particularly to those who cannot afford it, reducing socio-economic inequalities.

The aim of the present research is to study the role of human factor in a salient driving ability for road accident prevention, that is reaction time to danger. Reaction times (RTs) have been investigated since the origin of experimental Psychology, however when applied to driving, the values became obsolete due to modern driving conditions and interaction with advance driving automatic systems and devices. The influence of expectation, urgency, risk perception, cognitive load and driving conditions on the process that determine RTs have been steadily proven in literature. The present research aims to tackle the influence of these factors on RTs while driving. In particular data measured in real-life driving are used to a) study the influence of expectation on attention, emotions and decision making process, and b) assess the influence of virtual settings with different levels of realism, on the psychological process that determine RTs. A specific task that manipulate driver’s expectations was created to assess the influence of attention and decision making process in the different context on RTs. Results show significant differences in the RTs phases, for different situation. Driving simulators with different levels of realism proved to not have absolute validity, but rather relative on the meanings and learning process in detecting danger and deciding what response foster; giving us interesting information for drivers education, road safety and accident reconstruction.

PSICOLOGIA GENERALE [M-PSI/01] ,PSICOBIOLOGIA E PSICOLOGIA FISIOLOGICA [M-PSI/02] ,linguaggio, azione, verbi, neuroni specchio, realtà virtuale, language, action, mirror neurons, embodied language, embodied cognition, semantics - Abstract
The rational of this project is rooted in the recent theories that consider language as grounded in action, and thus tightly tied to the motor system. In the last decades, the discovery of the mirror neurons in monkeys, and of the correspondent mirror neuron system in humans, led to a new research topic often called “embodied language”. Thanks to the methodics supplied by neuroscience, nowadays a great corpus of experimental data has been collected that support the link between language and motor system, even if the nature of this link is still not completely understood. In this perspective, beyond traditional tools such as Functional Magnetic Resonance (fMRI) or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), also Virtual reality (RV), which allows to create an embodied experience, seems suitable to shed light on the open questions. The present project, thereby, is structured in three independent researches, each one aiming at investigating one specific facet of the complex phenomenon of embodied language. The first experiment is designed to investigate the role of the primary motor cortex during language comprehension, using rTMS; in the second one, the virtual reality is introduced, in order to test if and how a virtual action, thanks to simulation, modulates verbs comprehension; the third study, finally, using the same virtual environment, aims at examining the role of the virtual action during foreign language learning.

PSICOLOGIA SOCIALE [M-PSI/05] ,knowledge sharing, web 2.0, online qualitative research, diabetes ,PSICOLOGIA DEL LAVORO E DELLE ORGANIZZAZIONI [M-PSI/06] - Abstract
The Web 2.0 has totally changed the healthcare prevention and communication world .In particular, it has reconfigured lay exchanges between patients. These exchanges are important because they allow knowledge processes (like knowledge sharing or knowledge building). Although the importance of online knowledge processes between patients is well established, this field of study brings together a variety of theories with concepts not uniformly shared or understood. It’s not clear how patients use Web 2.0 for knowledge processes. The aim of this research is to study online contexts and exchanges about diabetes in Italy by developing a systematic exploration of Web 2.0 in order to define how knowledge processes work and how online contexts shape them

PSICOLOGIA SOCIALE [M-PSI/05] ,azione sociale, giovane adulto, trasmissione intergenerazionale, relazioni familiari, capitale sociale, social action, young adults, intergenerational transmission, family relationships, social capital - Abstract
The present research is focused on the emerging adults’ social action, considering individual, familial and social constructs. The present work intend to describe young participation in the social context through constructs that the literature consider as the bases of social action, and that, in the same time, can make previsions about it. The general aim is to test a predictive model of emerging adults social action especially for the two main forms of it: volunteerism and politic activism. The structure of the research project is articulated in three different phases: the first one studies the antecedents of social action starting from macrocategories identified by Penner; the second one tests the theoretical model of volunteerism (Penner, 2004); the third phase tests a prevision model of politic activism starting from volunteerism model (Penner, 2004).

PSICOLOGIA SOCIALE [M-PSI/05] ,relazioni intime, interdipendenza, individuazione, giovani adulti, cross-culturale, intimate relationships, interdependence, individuation, young adults, cross-cultural - Abstract
The aims of this research are to assess the interdependence of intimate relationships, studying how young adults’ romantic relationship is connected to their parent-child relationship, and to investigate the association between their individuation and the relationship with their mother and father. The literature has show different paths to adulthood, so these aims have been examined by comparing three different countries: Italy, Germany and Sweden, where the transition to adulthood presents different trajectories, in order to test whether the links between the examined constructs can be considered universal. Moreover, in order to better understand how the interdependence of relationships unfolds mixed methods have been used. Findings showed that all relationships considered are indeed interdependent and that the quality of the parent-child relationship differs depending on the different types of individuation investigated. The link among the constructs studied was found both in Italy and in Germany, though with some cultural specificities, while in Sweden interdependence appears to be weaker.
