The distribution of enterokinase in human intestine was studied in operative mucosal biopsies using specific antiserum to human enterokinase, previously purified to apparent homogeneity by affinity chromatography and immunoabsorption. Fluorescence was observed in the brush-border and glycocalyx of the duodenum and proximal 15 cm of jejunum distal to the D/J flexure. Distal jejunum and ileum as well as stomach and colon were consistently negative. Brunner's glands and goblet cells were never stained by specific antibody. Preliminary evidence was obtained that the human enterokinase molecule contains a specific antigenic determinant in its polypeptide component and a second determinant in the oligosaccharide moiety which cross-reacts with blood group A. Preliminary evidence was also obtained that mucosal synthesis of enterokinase may be impaired in jaundice due to carcinoma of the pancreas and induced in the small intestine distal to the normal limit of synthesis after pancreatico-duodenectomy. The culture of pelagic marine invertebrates, especially the ctenophore Mnemiopsis leidyi , has been demonstrated in past studies dating back to the 1960s; however, the mass culture of delicate pelagic invertebrates has remained elusive. By using a pair of acrylic tubes and enabling water diffusion between them, we have been able to reliably and cost effectively mass culture several genera of ctenophores ( Pleurobrachia , Hormiphora , Bolinopsis , Mnemiopsis and Leucothea ), one species of siphonophore ( Nanomia ) and one species of larvacean ( Oikopleura ). The simple, compact method is effective enough to support two permanent exhibits of ctenophores at the Monterey Bay Aquarium while minimizing live food culture requirements with the potential to support further investigation of pelagic marine invertebrate ontogeny, ecology and genomics., Competing Interests: The authors declare that they have no competing interests., (© 2020 Patry et al.)

In December 2014 the authors carried out a research among Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum medical students in a form of a questionnaire which consisted of two parts: personal information and multiple choice test concerning student's knowledge on OCPs. It showed that the level of medical education, defined as the year of study, increases student's knowledge about oral hormonal contraceptive pills. New program of study introduced from academic year 2012/2013 gives students wider knowledge on OCPs at earlier stage of education. Factors as female sex, usage of OCPs by student or his partner, positive attitude towards recommending OCPs to future patients show positive correlation with student's knowledge.

The adequate reconstitution of human soft tissue wounds requires the coordinated interaction of endothelial cells and fibroblasts during the proliferation phase of healing. Endothelial cells assure neoangiogenesis, fibroblasts fill the defect and provide extracellular matrix proteins, and myofibroblasts are believed to support the reconstitution of microvessels. In the present study, we combined in vitro-wound size measurement and multicolour immunocytochemical staining of co-cultured human dermal microvascular endothelial cells and normal human dermal fibroblasts, recently introduced as co-culture scratch-wound migration assay. Applying antibodies for alpha-smooth-muscle actin, von Willebrand factor, extra domain A fibronectin and endothelin-1, we were able to monitor proliferation, migration and the differentiation process from fibroblasts to myofibroblasts as a response to hypoxia. Furthermore, we verified, whether transforming growth factor beta1 (TGFbeta1) and endothelin-1 are able to mediate this response. We show, that proliferation and migration of endothelial cells and fibroblasts decreased under hypoxia. The additional administration of TGFbeta1 did not significantly attenuate this decrease. Solely the myofibroblast population in co-culture adapted well to hypoxia, when cultures were supplemented with TGFbeta1. Considerating the data concerning TGFbeta1 and endothelin-1, we propose a model explaining the cellular interaction during early and late proliferation phase of human wound healing.
