Electronic consultations (e-consults) are a mode of referral increasingly used to provide access to endocrine specialty care without the need for a patient in-person visit. This scoping review aimed to describe the models being used to deliver endocrine care via e-consult, what is known about outcomes of endocrine e-consult, and research gaps. The review was completed using an established methodological framework. PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, and Cochrane were searched for articles published in English between January 1, 2000, and March 21, 2024, that reported on e-consults for endocrine specialty care. The database search yielded 2522 articles, of which 19 underwent data extraction and synthesis. The overall body of endocrine e-consult literature is small and largely observational. Various models for endocrine e-consult programs exist. Findings on feasibility, acceptability, and timeliness are positive and consistent with the larger body of e-consult literature. Data on outcomes are limited but suggest that e-consults are no worse than other referral approaches to lowering A1C. Improvements in outcomes are greater for patients whose primary care providers implement e-consult recommendations. In summary, existing studies support the benefits of e-consults in various aspects of endocrine care quality, but the literature is nascent and there are significant research gaps. Future research should examine how e-consults can best address specific endocrine conditions, with a broad set of outcomes that addresses multiple quality dimensions. Advanced study designs and qualitative methods can help address unresolved questions about e-consults relevant to all specialties, including impact on care coordination and costs and best practices for reimbursement and workflow. Background: Surf therapy is gaining popularity for improving mental health. However, there is limited research evidence to substantiate these claims. Therefore, this systematic review aimed to assess randomized or non-randomized studies analyzing the efficacy of surf therapy in improving symptoms of mental illness compared to non-exercising controls and/or alternative intervention, and to identify evidential gaps to inform future research. Methods: PRISMA 2020 reporting guidelines were followed. Eligibility criteria included participants of any age and sex, explicitly diagnosed with any mental health disorder, while exposed to surf therapy and compared to non-exercising controls and/or alternative interventions. The primary outcome consisted of changes in symptoms of mental illness scored from baseline to post-intervention. Any randomized or non-randomized trial design was considered. We searched Cochrane Library, CINAHL, EMBASE, PubMed, Scopus, SPORTDiscus and Web of Science databases (December 7, 2023), without language or publication date restrictions and without filters. Risk of bias was assessed using RoB 2. A meta-analysis could not be conducted due to heterogeneity of the studies; therefore, a narrative synthesis of individual study results was performed. Results: Of 5,666 records, three randomized controlled studies were included in the review. Overall, the findings of the three studies suggest no robust consistent evidence of improvement in mental health symptoms when comparing surf therapy to wait-list control groups or other nature-based exercise interventions (hike therapy). Certainty of evidence should be considered very low, as it is based on three randomized controlled trials. Background: Reduced muscle mass upon admission and development of muscle wasting are frequent in critically ill patients, and linked to unfavorable outcomes. Muscle ultrasound is a promising instrument for evaluating muscle mass. We summarized the findings of lower limb muscle ultrasound values and investigated how the muscle ultrasound parameters of the examination or the patient characteristics influence the results. Methods: Systematic review and meta-analysis of studies of lower limb ultrasound critically ill adults. PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, PEDro and Web of Science were searched. PRISMA guidelines were followed, and studies evaluated with the appropriate NIH quality assessment tool. A meta-analysis was conducted to compare the values at admission, short and long follow-up during ICU stay, and the association between baseline values and patient characteristics or ultrasound parameters was investigated with a meta-regression. Results: Sixty-six studies (3839 patients) were included. The main muscles investigated were rectus femoris cross-sectional area (RF-CSA, n = 33/66), quadriceps muscle layer thickness (n = 32/66), and rectus femoris thickness (n = 19/66). Significant differences were found in the anatomical landmark and ultrasound settings. At ICU admission, RF-CSA ranged from 1.1 [0.73–1.47] to 6.36 [5.45–7.27] cm2 (pooled average 2.83 [2.29–3.37] cm2) with high heterogeneity among studies (I2 = 98.43%). Higher age, higher BMI, more distal landmark and the use of probe compression were associated with lower baseline muscle mass. Conclusions: Measurements of muscle mass using ultrasound varied with reference to patient characteristics, patient position, anatomical landmarks used for measurement, and the level of compression applied by the probe; this constrains the external validity of the results and highlights the need for standardization. Introduction: Agenda-setting is a collaborative communication strategy used by a clinician before or at the start of a clinical encounter to work together with the patient to "elicit, propose, and organize" topics to be discussed during the encounter. While clinical visit agenda-setting has been acknowledged as an important element of patient-centered communication, the effectiveness of agenda-setting interventions in improving healthcare outcomes is unclear. To our knowledge, no systematic review has examined clinical visit agenda-setting interventions. Methods and analysis: The primary aim of the systematic review will be to assess the effects of agenda-setting interventions on outcomes relating to the clinical encounter itself, patients, and clinicians, as well as any other study-specified outcomes. Our secondary aims will be to examine the characteristics and delivery attributes of agenda-setting interventions, as well as how agenda-setting has been operationalized and measured. We will search selected databases (APA PsycInfo, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, MEDLINE via PubMed, ProQuest, Scopus, and Web of Science) and gray literature from inception until date of search. All studies comparing a clinical visit agenda-setting intervention with either usual care or another agenda-setting intervention will be included. Two independent reviewers will complete article screening and data extraction, with a third independent reviewer resolving any conflicts. We will assess all studies' methodological quality and the quality of their evidence using standardized criteria. If a sufficient number of studies report the same outcomes, we will pool their results and perform a meta-analysis of those outcomes. Background: HIV-related stigma has significant adverse impacts on people living with HIV/AIDS, such as psychological distress, decreased quality of life, a reluctance to get screened and treated, and a reluctance to disclose their status due to fear of stereotypes or rejection. Objectives: To determine the pooled prevalence and factors associated with HIV-related perceived stigma and internalized stigma among people living with HIV/AIDS in Africa. Methods: Articles that assessed the prevalence and associated factors of HIV-related perceived stigma and internalized stigma were reviewed. PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, African Journal Online, CINAHL, and Science Direct were the databases used to search the primary studies. The data was extracted through a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and exported to STATA version 14 for further analysis. The I2 test was applied to test heterogeneity, whereas Egger's test and funnel plot were used to check publication bias. Results: In this study, the total sample size was 28,355 (for perceived stigma) and 22,732 (for internalized stigma). The overall pooled prevalence of HIV-related perceived stigma and internalized stigma was determined to be 41.23% and 35.68%, respectively. Based on the subgroup analysis results, the highest pooled prevalence of perceived stigma was observed in Nigeria (50.04%), followed by Ethiopia (41.72%), while the highest prevalence of internalized stigma was observed in Ethiopia (56.13%), followed by Cameroon (44.66%). Females (OR = 1.63: 1.31, 2.02) and rural dwellers (OR = 1.93: 1.36, 2.74) had more odds of experiencing HIV-related perceived stigma. Conclusion and recommendation: This study concluded that four in ten and more than one-third of people living with HIV/AIDS suffered from perceived and internalized stigma. Thus, special considerations must be given to women and rural dwellers. It is recommended to implement multi-level interventions and foster empowerment and support for individuals living with HIV. Bullying is a serious problem among adolescents that often occurs in schools. The problem occurs because of the high level of bullying behavior. Bullying causes negative impacts such as anxiety, low self-esteem, and suicide risk. So that interventions are needed to prevent and reduce bullying behavior. The aim of this study is to explore the effectiveness and implementation methods of the KiVa anti-bullying program for preventing and reducing bullying behavior for students. Scoping review design was used in this study using PRISMA Extension for Scoping Review search strategy. A scoping review of studies indexed in CINAHL, PubMed and Scopus databases was conducted. After duplicates were removed and articles screened, 11 studies were included in the review. Data analysis in this study used descriptive qualitative. The 11 included studies comprised of randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental studies involving range of samples from 1051 to 23.520 respondents from elementary school to high school students aged 6–15 years. The KiVa Anti-bullying intervention was effective for reducing bullying behavior in students (p value < 0.05). This intervention involves teachers, government, students, and health workers to collaborate in building a bullying prevention system. The activities carried out are providing education, assertive and empathy training, role play, counseling, and games. The method in implementing the intervention is online and offline. This therapy can be optimized by providing special interventions to victims, perpetrators, and both. The provision of interventions also needs to be carried out and monitored regularly to prevent repeated bullying behavior in students. Introduction Material and Methods Results Conclusions Endometriosis is the leading cause of chronic pelvic pain among women. The pain associated with endometriosis significantly impacts various aspects of patients' quality of life. A notable void in the literature is the absence of a systematic review exploring pain communication between patients with endometriosis and healthcare professionals. Hence, the aim of this qualitative systematic review was to synthesize findings on how patients with endometriosis experience communicating with healthcare professionals about pain and how healthcare professionals experience these interactions.A systematic literature search was conducted related to patients with endometriosis and pain communication in CINAHL PLUS with full text and MEDLINE (via EBSCO host) on May 12, 2023, and updated January 26, 2024. Searches were supplemented by backward searching reference lists and forward searching citations of included reports in Scopus and Google Scholar. The review was guided by the four‐step meta‐synthesis methodology by Sandelowski and Barosso. Critical appraisal of included studies was conducted using Critical Appraisal Skill Program (CASP). Findings were analyzed thematically, using the approach described by Thomas and Harden. The meta‐synthesis was based on a registered protocol in PROSPERO (CRD 42023425430), and the study is reported adhering to the PRISMA 2020 checklist.Overall, 37 reports published from 2003 until 2023 contributed to the review, including 4842 participants. Through thematic analysis, we developed the following themes: “Navigating the double burden,” “Lack of mutual understanding,” and “The complexities of conveying pain.”The communication of pain between patients with endometriosis and healthcare professionals is complex, encompassing patterns of disbelief, normalization, and psychological attribution. Engaging in discussions about pain presents diverse challenges stemming from insufficient communication skills and assessment tools. Further research is warranted to comprehensively explore the perspectives of both patients and healthcare professionals, aiming to devise strategies that enhance communication and patient care. Background: Older adults with lower socioeconomic status are less likely to be physically active than those with higher socioeconomic status. To inform future intervention development, this review explored: [i] how effective are physical activity interventions at increasing levels of physical activity amongst older adults with lower socioeconomic status?; [ii] what factors are associated with the acceptability of physical activity interventions amongst older adults with lower socioeconomic status?; [iii] what are the implications for developing physical activity interventions for older adults with lower socioeconomic status? Methods: This mixed methods systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines. MEDLINE, CENTRAL, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, CINAHL, ASSIA and Sports Medicine and Education Index were searched up to May 2023, to identify quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods primary research studies measuring the effectiveness of and/or experiences of physical activity interventions for older adults (aged ≥ 65 years) with lower socioeconomic status. No limits on country were applied. Included studies were assessed for methodological quality using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. Results were synthesised using a results-based convergent synthesis approach with narrative synthesis of quantitative findings and thematic synthesis of qualitative findings. Results: Thirty studies were included. Mixed effects were found for the effectiveness of physical activity interventions, with positive effects for increases in utilitarian walking (i.e. for transport) but not for leisure, mixed effects for objectively measured physical activity and no effects for self-reported total physical activity or muscle strengthening and flexibility activities. Engaging in physical activity interventions was perceived as offering many benefits, social familiarity was important to intervention acceptability and interventions were seen as more acceptable when they were compatible with the lifestyles of older adults with lower socioeconomic status. Conclusions: Future development of physical activity interventions for older adults with lower socioeconomic status should foster social connections, emphasise health benefits of physical activity, hold interventions in locations that are accessible and familiar to older adults with lower socioeconomic status, minimise costs to participants, employ individuals who share participant characteristics to lead interventions, and combine physical activity with other activities older adults with lower socioeconomic status already do to make more efficient use of time. Introduction: Mobile health (mHealth) interventions have shown potential to improve maternal and child health outcomes in Africa, but their effectiveness depends on specific interventions, context, and implementation quality. Challenges such as limited infrastructure, low digital literacy, and sustainability need to be addressed. Further evaluation studies are essential to summarize the impact of mHealth interventions. Thus, this synthesis focuses on qualitative evidence of the impact of mHealth on maternal and child health in Africa to summarize such evidence to help policy decisions. Methods: A qualitative systematic review guided by the concepts of Intervention, Context, Mechanism, and Outcome (ICAMO) was employed in this study. The GRADE CERQual assessment and methodological constraints tools were utilized in the review to ascertain the level of confidence in the evidence and to examine the methodological limitations. The JBI checklist for qualitative research appraisal was also consulted during the review. Results: The current review contains 32 eligible studies from databases such as CINAHL, EMBASE, MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, HINARI, and Cochrane Library. The review demonstrated substantial improvements in the HCP-woman relationship, communication system, maternal and child healthcare uptake, health-seeking behavior, and HCP skills. Economic capacities, maternal education, and the low quality of existing services challenged participants. Conclusion: mHealth significantly improves maternal and child health outcomes in Africa. This review showed it can improve healthcare access, empower women, and contribute to the region's goal of universal health coverage. However, the challenges such as low partner support, high costs for services, and poor quality of current care as narrated by women need commitment from health authorities in the continent. Background: As the healthcare sector grapples with its environmental footprint, the concept of Eco-conscious Nursing emerges as a pivotal framework for integrating sustainability into nursing practice. This study aims to clarify and operationalize Eco-conscious Nursing, examining its attributes, antecedents, consequences, and providing operational definitions to guide future research and practice. Methods: Utilizing a systematic literature review across PubMed, Google Scholar, and CINAHL Ultimate, this study identifies and analyzes existing theories, frameworks, and practices related to eco-conscious nursing. Through conceptual analysis, key attributes, antecedents, and consequences of Eco-conscious Nursing are delineated, leading to the formulation of comprehensive operational definitions. Results: The study reveals Eco-conscious Nursing as a multifaceted concept characterized by environmental stewardship, sustainable healthcare practices, and a commitment to reducing the ecological impact of nursing care. Operational definitions highlight the role of education, awareness, and institutional support as antecedents, with improved environmental health and sustainable healthcare outcomes as key consequences. Conclusion: Eco-conscious Nursing represents a crucial ethos for the nursing profession, emphasizing the necessity of sustainable practices within healthcare. The operational definitions provided serve as a foundation for embedding eco-conscious principles into nursing, addressing the urgent need for sustainability in healthcare settings. Background: Most people living with dementia live in their own home supported by family carers. One of the most challenging problems they face is managing toilet-use and continence. Carers have repeatedly asked for better advice from healthcare professionals. The purpose of this systematic review was to inform the development of an intervention to support healthcare professionals to provide existing continence management advice to the carers of people living at home with dementia. It aimed to identify and synthesise lessons from the development and evaluation of interventions, involving primary or community healthcare professionals, to support the provision of management advice aimed at supporting people living at home with dementia and their carers with activities of daily living. Due to a lack of relevant continence or toilet-use interventions, this included, but was not limited to, toileting or continence care. Methods: Literature (February 2009-November 2022) was searched using five databases: MEDLINE (Ovid); PsycINFO (Ovid); EMBASE (Ovid); Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) (EBSCO); and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL). Empirical studies using a variety of methodologies were included and thus the quality of papers appraised using the Mixed-Methods Appraisal Tool. No studies were excluded based on quality. A narrative synthesis was undertaken. Results: Twelve articles reporting on 10 interventions were included. Most comprised the provision of online resources only, although some combined these with online or face-to-face contact with healthcare professionals. A variety of methodologies was utilised including randomised controlled trials. The quality of included studies was variable. Six main themes were identified: mode of delivery; targeted and tailored resources; content, design and navigation; credibility; user involvement in the development and evaluation of information resources; and role of professionals and organisations. Conclusions: Despite the urgent need to better support people living at home with dementia and their carers, this review highlights the paucity of studies reporting on interventions delivered within primary and community healthcare contexts to provide management advice aimed at supporting this population with activities of daily living. This review has identified important considerations that will potentially aid the development, delivery and evaluation of such interventions. Objective: This review assessed men's involvement and the predictors of their involvement in cervical cancer screening. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search of the following electronic databases: PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, African, Web of Science, and Scopus. The search was limited to articles published between January 2010 and January 2023. Results: A total of 17 studies met the inclusion criteria and were included for this review. More than 50% of the studies emphasised the relevance of male involvement in cervical cancer prevention in Africa and demonstrated the critical importance of this as a strategy. Conclusion: The results revealed that a significant proportion of male participants had a restricted comprehension of cervical cancer. Background: HIV affects 1.2 million Americans, with 20% of new diagnoses being 13 to 24-year-olds. Young adult college students are more likely than the general population of 18 to 24-year-olds in the U.S. to engage in sexual practices that increase their risk of STIs. Objectives: This scoping review explores factors that promote or hinder STD/STI/HIV self-testing among U.S. college students. Search Methods: A scoping review of original, experimental (randomized or nonrandomized), observational (longitudinal and cross-sectional), and qualitative or mixed-methods U.S. research was conducted using OVID Medline, OVID Embase, PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science Core Collection, and Cochrane CENTRAL. English-language studies measured STD/STI/HIV self-test kits and college student testing. Selection Criteria: Inclusion and exclusion criteria were used to narrow down articles that addressed barriers and facilitators to STD/STI/HIV testing, and self-testing among college students in the U.S. Results: Database searches yielded 8,373 articles. After removing duplicates, 6173 items remained. After independent dual-title/abstract screening, 100 papers were full-text reviewed. Seven retrieved articles were unavailable, and 93 were selected for full-text screening. After reviewing the whole text, 89 papers did not fulfill the inclusion requirements and were deleted, leaving 4 articles in the final analysis. Conclusion: Additional research on self-testing among college students in the U.S. is urgently required. The results should guide university health policies on the need to cater to the unique requirements of college students by increasing the availability of healthcare and embracing STD/STI/HIV self-testing. Background: In recent decades, the literature on global partnerships in nursing and midwifery education, to enhance the quality of education and produce competent graduates in the labor market, is on the rise in Africa. However, there is a gap regarding the best practices and barriers in the African context. This systematic scoping review aims to map the evidence on academic partnerships in transforming nursing and midwifery education in Africa. Methods: The review will be guided by Arksey and O'Malley's methodology framework through five stages: (1) Identifying the research question, (2) identifying relevant studies, (3) study selection, (4) charting the data, and (5) collecting, summarizing, and reporting the results. A search will be conducted with the use of the following electronic databases: Cumulative Index to Nursing and Applied Health Literature (CINAHL), PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Additional gray literature will be searched via the World Health Organization's website to locate relevant policies and guidelines. The search will be limited to work published in English from 2014 to 2023. All located resources will be exported to EndNote X8. All duplicates will be removed during when the abstracts are screened. Two independent reviewers will screen and extract the full text of the selected articles. Thematic analysis will be used to analyze data from this systematic scoping review. Discussion: Mapping the evidence on global partnerships in transforming nursing and midwifery education in Africa will outline the best practices and preferences for sustainable collaboration. Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess interventions to reduce opioid use for patients with chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) versus usual care or active controls in primary care settings. Methods: In this registered study (PROSPERO: CRD42022338458), we searched MEDLINE, Embase PsycInfo, CINAHL, and Cochrane Library from inception to December 28th 2021, and updated on Dec 14th 2023 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies with no restrictions. Methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool for RCTs and Newcastle Ottawa Scale for cohort studies. Primary outcomes included mean reduction in morphine equivalent daily dose (reported as mean differences [MDs] mg/day; 95% confidence intervals [95%CIs]) and/or opioid cessation proportion. Secondary outcomes were mean changes in pain severity (reported as standardized mean difference [SMDs]; 95%CIs) and (serious) adverse events. Meta-analyses were performed using random-effects models. Results: We identified 3,826 records, of which five RCTs (953 participants) and five cohort studies (901 participants) were included. Overall, opioid dosage was significantly reduced in intervention groups compared to controls (MD: -28.63 mg/day, 95%CI: -39.77 to -17.49; I2 = 31.25%; eight studies). Subgroup analyses revealed significant opioid dose reductions with mindfulness (MD: -29.36 mg/day 95%CI: -40.55 to -18.17; I2 = 0.00%; two trials) and CBT-based multimodalities (MD: -41.68 mg/day; 95%CI: -58.47 to -24.89; I2 = 0.00%; two cohort studies), respectively, compared to usual care. No significant differences were observed in opioid cessation (Odds ratio: 1.10, 95%CI: -0.48 to 2.67, I2 = 58.59%; two trials) or pain severity (SMD: -0.13, 95%CI: -0.37 to 0.11; I2 = 33.51%; three trials). Adverse events were infrequently examined, with withdrawal symptoms commonly reported. Conclusions: The studied interventions were effective in reducing opioid dosage for people with CNCP in primary care. They highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration. Background: Adverse early childhood developmental outcomes impact later schooling and adulthood life courses. However, there needs to be more comprehensive evidence on the effect of various perinatal and early life risk exposures. Hence, we aimed to systematically identify the various perinatal and early childhood risk factors using a socioecological model to inform appropriate prevention strategies. Method: The systematic review will adhere to the 2020 PRISMA guidelines. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO with a registration number of CRD42023447352. We will systematically search for articles on adverse early childhood developmental outcomes, which include physical, cognitive, language and communication and social-emotional development from main databases, such as EMBASE, Medline, Global Health, PsycINFO, CINAHL and Web of Science Core Collection, dating from 2000. We will use Population, Exposure, Comparator, Outcome and Study Design (PECOS) criteria to select eligible studies for our review: 1) Population includes children in early childhood age (i.e., up to eight years) undergoing developmental assessments. 2) Exposure: various perinatal and early life risk factors. 3) Comparators: Children with no or low levels of exposure to the risk factors. 4) Outcome: adverse early childhood developmental outcome. 5) Study design: all observational studies that report the prevalence or incidence of adverse early childhood developmental outcomes and associated risk factors published since 2000. There will be no restriction based on country of origin or geographical location except language (only published in English). Background: Perioperative cognitive maintenance and protection in older adults is an important patient safety imperative. In addition to foundational care, one area of growing interest is integrating cognitive prehabilitation into the surgical trajectory. This review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of cognitive prehabilitation on cognitive functional capacity and postoperative cognitive outcomes among older adults undergoing elective surgery. Methods: The MEDLINE, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL, PsycINFO, PEDro, CBM, CNKI, WANFANG, and VIP databases were systematically searched up to September 5, 2024, to identify randomized controlled trials published for English or Chinese. Two authors independently completed the study selection process, data extraction process and methodological quality assessment. The Patient, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome, Study design framework was used to construct the search strategy. The predefined primary outcomes of interest included the incidence of postoperative delirium (POD) and the incidence of delayed neurocognitive recovery (dNCR). The quality of the studies was evaluated by the PEDro scale. Owing to the small number of trials and clinical and methodological diversity, a narrative synthesis was undertaken in accordance with the Synthesis Without Meta-analysis guidelines. This study was conducted and reported in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses statement. The certainty of the evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system. Results: Six studies were analysed. These trials involved 645 total participants, with 316 in the intervention group (mean age, 66.0-73.8 years; 38.4-77.8% male) and 329 in the comparator group (mean age, 67.5-72.6 years; 31.8-88.9% male). The effects of preoperative cognitive training on reducing the incidence of dNCR, the incidence of POD, the length of hospital stay and the incidence of postsurgical complications as well as improving postoperative global cognitive function and activities of daily living are quite uncertain. The results of this study should be interpreted with caution owing to the limited number of trials and low to very low certainty of evidence. Conclusion: Current evidence on the effectiveness and safety of cognitive prehabilitation on cognitive and noncognitive outcomes in older patients undergoing elective surgery is limited and unclear. Background: Young people (YP) are disproportionately affected by the HIV pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), but testing rates remain low despite global targets of testing 95% of people with HIV infection by 2030. HIV self-testing (HIVST) has been recently introduced to reach high-risk population groups such as these. Thus, synthesis of emerging evidence on the acceptability and use of HIVST among YP in SSA is needed so that comprehensive information can be generated to inform policy and practice. Methods: We employed a mixed methods systematic review of quantitative and qualitative literature reporting on HIVST among YP involving any design and published in English by 31st of October 2023. The review synthesized quantitative evidence on acceptability and use of HIVST, and qualitative evidence on perspectives of YP about HIVST. We searched databases of published articles (e.g. MEDLINE, CINAHL) and Gray literature sources (e.g. Google, Google Scholar). The concepts for the search included self-testing, HIV/AIDS, and countries in SSA. Two authors independently screened, retrieved full-text, and assessed quality of the studies. Results: A total of 4150 studies were retrieved and 32 studies were finally included in the review. Acceptability of HIVST computed from a single item asking YP on their preference or willingness or demand for HIVST was moderate (34–67%) to high (≥ 67%) among YP in SSA. Nine of the fourteen studies that reported on acceptability found high acceptability of HIVST. Use of HIVST ranged from 0.8 to 100% while in most studies the use rate was below 50%. Key barriers to HIVST use were coping with a positive test in the absence of counselling and support, physical discomfort, and cost of kits. Perceived enablers included perceptions of HIVST as promoting personal empowerment and autonomy; privacy and confidentiality; and convenience in location, time, and skill. Conclusions: HIVST was highly accepted but not well utilized among YP in SSA. YP showed diversified needs with mixed preferences for location, and modalities of service provision. Overall, the review identified heterogeneous evidence in terms of methods, population, outcome measures, and results. Aims: This scoping review aims to examine the level and outcomes of emotional labor in nurses. Background: Nursing is a highly emotional profession that requires nurses to experience a wide range of emotions and control their emotional expressions in nursing practice. Chronic emotional labor and emotional burden not only impact nurses' individual well‐being and professional performance but also their job satisfaction and turnover intention. Evaluation: This scoping review was guided by a five‐stage scoping review framework and the PRISMA‐ScR checklist. Eight databases were searched and 41 studies were reviewed. Key Issues: The Emotional Labor Scale and the Emotional Labor Scale for Nurses were the most commonly used instruments. Significant associations were found between emotional labor and 52 outcomes, which were categorized into two main themes: nurses' personal well‐being and organizational well‐being. There were 19 mediators and 12 moderators between nurses' emotional labor and 26 different outcomes. Conclusions: While the level of emotional labor among nurses remains uncertain, its consequences are plentiful and intricate. Studies have shown an important relationship between nurses' emotional labor and individual and organizational well‐being, which is crucial for nurse managers. There is a need to explore the positive effects of nurses' emotional labor and its impact on patients. Additionally, validation studies of the instruments used to measure nurses' emotional labor are necessary. Implications for Nursing Management: The insights gained from this scoping review provided a more comprehensive understanding of emotional labor for nurse managers. This knowledge can be utilized to design training programs on emotional management and to explore different interventions aimed at alleviating the adverse impacts of nurses' emotional labor. Background: The benefits of healthy eating are well known, yet adolescent diet is often poor. School based interventions offer a promising option to promote healthy eating, however, evidence is unclear. Aim: This umbrella review synthesised the current evidence on school-based interventions for healthy eating in adolescents (10–19 years old). Methods: Using Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) umbrella review guidelines, a systematic search was conducted on 11 electronic databases (PubMed, CINHAL, EMBASE, Science Direct, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, Scopus, ERIC, Web of Science, Cochrane Register of Systemic Review and JBI Evidence Synthesis) to identify reviews published between January 2000 and December 2023. Methodological quality was assessed using JBI critical appraisal tool. A narrative synthesis was conducted informed by the World Health Organisation's Health Promoting School (HPS) framework that categorises school-based interventions into three components i.e., health education, school environment changes, and family and community involvement. Results: Seventeen reviews were identified (including 347 unique primary studies) that were published between 2008 and 2023. 87% of the reviews were based on interventions in high- income countries, limiting applicability to low- and middle-income countries. Fourteen reviews were rated as high, two as moderate, and one was rated as low methodological quality. Evidence from 71% of the reviews (n = 14 reviews, 13 = high methodological quality) found that multi-component interventions (i.e., interventions incorporating more than two components of the HPS framework) improved adolescents' knowledge and behaviour concerning healthy eating. At the individual level, tech-driven healthy eating curricula effectively improved eating behaviours of adolescents. These individual-level interventions proved to be more effective and sustainable when supported by system-level changes, such as modifying school environments including increased availability of healthy foods and involving parents to promote healthy eating for adolescents. However, limited evidence from only three reviews suggests mixed feasibility for technology-based interventions and lower feasibility for multi-component interventions. The lack of information on stakeholder involvement in intervention design is another critical evidence gap. Conclusion: School-based multi-component healthy eating interventions that combine individual-level interventions with system-level changes are effective in promoting healthy eating behaviours among adolescents. Future reviews should assess the effectiveness of participatory approaches in intervention design, feasibility and scale-up studies, and analysing evidence from low- and middle-income countries. Context: Health inequities exist across the healthcare continuum, significantly impacting 2SLGBTQIA + individuals. Palliative care presents unique challenges for sexual and gender minorities due to socio-cultural, psychological, and systemic barriers. The objective of this scoping review was to synthesize existing research on palliative care use among 2SLGBTQIA + individuals and identify common themes in the literature. Methods: A literature review was conducted, focusing on articles published between 2010 and 2023 from the PubMed and CINAHL databases. Arksey and O'Malley's methodological framework for scoping reviews was applied to guide the review process. Results: A total of 31 studies were identified. A significant portion of the research originated in North America, with little research from outside the USA. Palliative care and end-of-life care were most used to describe care, though these terms were often not clearly defined. All studies included a focus on sexual and gender minorities, but there was considerable variation in the terminology used and a noticeable paucity of literature specifically addressing the needs of transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, or use of an intersectional approach in analysis. Key themes identified in the literature include discrimination in palliative care settings, disenfranchised grief experienced by care partners, and a lack of training in palliative care settings concerning the unique needs of 2SLGBTQIA + people utilizing palliative care services. Conclusions: People identifying as 2SLGBTQIA + experience unique inequities in accessing and using palliative care services. To address these challenges, future initiatives should focus on developing identity-affirming palliative care settings, enhancing respect and support for care partners and found family, and ensuring healthcare providers are properly educated to provide care to this community. Future research is also needed that considers more diverse samples, as well as the impact of intersecting identities on the specific needs and challenges they face at end-of-life. Introduction Methods Results Conclusion The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the human body. As such, skin infections can have a significant impact on overall health, social wellbeing and self‐image. In 2019, we published a systematic review of the treatment, prevention and public health control of skin infections including impetigo, scabies, crusted scabies and tinea in resource‐limited settings where skin infections are endemic. This current review serves as an update to assess the evidence for treatment of these conditions as well as atopic dermatitis, molluscum contagiosum and head lice in endemic settings. The data from this systematic review have supported an update to the Australian National Healthy Skin guidelines.A systematic review was conducted using two separate searches in MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane and Web of Science. The first search was an update of the 2018 systematic review using the same search strategy for the same skin conditions to identify emerging literature from 2018 to 2022. The second search strategy used the same key terms but with the addition of atopic dermatitis, head lice and molluscum contagiosum from 1960 to 2022. Eligible studies included Indigenous peoples and populations in resource‐limited settings with a diagnosis of impetigo, scabies, crusted scabies, tinea capitis, atopic dermatitis, molluscum contagiosum or who presented with head lice. Studies conducted in high‐income countries were excluded. Articles were screened for inclusion independently by one author with a second group of reviewers independently double screening. Data extraction and an in‐depth quality assessment conducted by one author and checked by two others.Of 1466 original articles identified, 68 studies were included and key findings outlined for impetigo, scabies, crusted scabies, atopic dermatitis, head lice and molluscum contagiosum. Recommendations for each condition based on the available evidence are provided.The importance of assessing literature relevant to the populations with heavy burden of skin infections is outlined in this systematic review. We have summarised updates to this literature, which may benefit in developing guidelines for skin infection management similar to the National Healthy Skin Guidelines for Australia. Objectives: This study aims to review studies developing or validating a prediction model for transition to psychosis in individuals meeting At Risk Mental State (ARMS) criteria focussing on predictors that can be obtained as part of standard clinical practice. Prediction of transition is crucial to facilitating identification of patients who would benefit from cognitive behavioural therapy and, conversely, those that would benefit from less costly and less-intensive regular mental state monitoring. The review aims to determine whether prediction models rated as low risk of bias exist and, if not, what further research is needed within the field. Design: Bibliographic databases (PsycINFO, Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL) were searched using index terms relating to the clinical field and prognosis from 1994, the initial year of the first prospective study using ARMS criteria, to July 2024. Screening of titles, abstracts, and subsequently full texts was conducted by two reviewers independently using predefined criteria. Study quality was assessed using the Prediction model Risk Of Bias ASessment Tool (PROBAST). Setting: Studies in any setting were included. Primary and secondary outcome measures: The primary outcome for the review was the identification of prediction models considering transition risk and a summary of their risk of bias. Results: Forty-eight unique prediction models considering risk of transition to psychosis were identified. Variables found to be consistently important when predicting transition were age, gender, global functioning score, trait vulnerability, and unusual thought content. PROBAST criteria categorised four unique prediction models as having an overall low-risk bias. Other studies were insufficiently powered for the number of candidate predictors or lacking enough information to draw a conclusion regarding risk of bias. Background: Fatigue is one of the most common and burdensome symptoms for patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS), considerably impacting their quality of life and employment. Numerous reports have described the prevalence of MS-related fatigue, but there is no global consensus on this matter. Objective: To examine the global prevalence of MS-related fatigue and identify sources of heterogeneity in the published literature. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted. A comprehensive search of the PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PsycINFO, CINAHL, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang database for potential literature from 2000 to January 31, 2024. A random effects model was used to calculate the prevalence of MS-related fatigue. Subgroup analyses and a meta-regression were used to explore the sources of heterogeneity. Results: Sixty-nine studies from 27 countries were included. The global prevalence of MS-related fatigue was 59.1%, and it has decreased every decade since 2000. Fatigue was prevalent among females, those with lower education levels, those who were older, those with greater disability, and those with longer MS durations. The meta-regression revealed that fatigue measurement instruments were the largest source of heterogeneity. Conclusion: The prevalence of MS-related fatigue is quite high. Healthcare professionals should screen for and manage fatigue for PwMS as early as possible and pay attention to populations with a high prevalence of fatigue. The high heterogeneity among the prevalence rates due to differences in the fatigue scales suggests the importance of reaching a consensus on the best screening tools for MS-related fatigue. Patient experience is a key aspect of care quality. Since the 2007 release of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Clinician and Group (CG-CAHPS) survey, no systematic review of factors associated with CG-CAHPS scores has been reported. We reviewed 52 peer-reviewed English language articles published in the United States using CG-CAHPS data. We followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines and used the Checklist for Analytical Cross-Sectional Studies. We identified several interventions (eg, adding a care coordinator focused on chronic care management) associated with improved overall provider rating and 2 interventions (eg, peer shadow coaching) that improved provider communication scores. Studies evaluating the implementation of patient-centered medical homes or patient-reported outcomes found mixed results. We identified site-level factors (eg, better team communication) and provider-level factors (eg, physician empathy) associated with better patient experience. In contrast, patient-level factors (eg, medication adherence) found mixed associations with patient experience. Policymakers, clinicians, and healthcare leaders can leverage this evidence for quality improvement efforts and interventions supporting patient-centered care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: To describe the use of artificial intelligence (AI) by nurse managers to enhance management, leadership, and healthcare outcomes. Background: AI represents a significant transformation in healthcare management by enhancing decision‐making, communication, and resource optimization. However, the integration and strategic application of AI in nursing management are underexplored, particularly regarding its impact on leadership roles and healthcare delivery. Methods: Methodological guidelines described by PRISMA were followed, and quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology. The databases searched included the Web of Science, Scopus, CINAHLi, and PubMed. The review included quantitative, qualitative, and mixed‐method studies published between January 2015 and April 2024. Results: Fourteen studies were selected for the review. The key findings indicate that AI technologies facilitate better resource management, risk assessment, and decision‐making. AI also supports nurse managers in leading changes, enhancing communication, and optimizing administrative tasks. Conclusion: AI has been progressively integrated into nursing management, demonstrating significant benefits in operational efficiency, decision support, and leadership enhancement. However, challenges, such as resistance to technological change and ethical complexities, need to be addressed. Implications for Nursing Management: Specific training programs for nurse managers are essential to optimize the integration of AI. Such programs should focus on the management of AI applications and data analyses. In addition, creating interdisciplinary groups involving nurse managers, AI developers, and nursing staff is crucial for tailoring AI solutions to meet the unique needs of healthcare settings. Background: Factors affecting time to lung cancer care may occur at multiple levels of influence. Mixed-methods reviews provide an approach for collectively synthesizing both quantitative and qualitative data. Prior reviews on timeliness of lung cancer care have included only either quantitative or qualitative data, been agnostic of the multilevel nature of influencing factors, or focused on a single factor such as gender or socioeconomic inequalities. Objective: We aimed to update the literature on systematic reviews and identify multilevel factors associated with delays in lung cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Design: The proposed systematic review will be conducted in accordance with the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Manual for Evidence Synthesis specific for mixed methods systematic reviews. Reporting will be consistent with PRISMA guidelines. Methods: Medline (PubMed), CINAHL, and SCOPUS will be searched using validated search terms for lung cancer and factors, health disparities and time/delay. Eligible studies will include original articles with quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs that investigate health disparities in, risk factors for, or barriers to timely screening, confirmatory diagnosis, or treatment among patients with lung cancer or those at risk for lung cancer. Title, abstract, and full-text screening, study quality assessment, and data extraction will be conducted by two reviewers. A convergent integrated approach with thematic synthesis will be applied to synthesize the extracted and generated analytical themes. Discussion: Findings from this review will inform the design of an intervention to address delays in lung cancer screening for high-risk persons, diagnosis of suspected lung cancer, and treatment of confirmed cases. Background: Under Sect. 564 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, when the US Department of Health and Human Services Secretary issues a declaration based on one of four types of determinations, FDA may authorize an unapproved product or unapproved uses of an approved product for emergency use. It is unclear how much the public and health care providers understand about emergency use authorizations and how that understanding influences perceptions or behavioral intentions. The current study aimed to explore consumer and health care provider perceptions of emergency use authorizations and how promotion of emergency use authorizations has been investigated in the literature. Methods: We conducted a scoping review via PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CINAHL for original research published in English from January 1, 2012, through November 10, 2022. We conducted surveillance of the literature through March 2023. Results: We identified 13 studies reported in 14 publications that addressed public and health care provider attitudes, understanding, and behaviors with regard to products authorized under an emergency use authorization. We did not identify any articles describing research regarding the promotion of emergency use authorization products. Findings suggest gaps in understanding of emergency use authorizations, both for the public and health care providers. Findings also suggest the public and health care providers have concerns about safety or the lack of full FDA approval that may contribute to decreased willingness to receive treatments and vaccines under an emergency use authorization. Background: Nurses form the frontline of the healthcare system's response to both epidemics and pandemics, and this was especially the case during the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Although the influence of COVID-19 on nursing roles has attracted interest, there is no integrated knowledge of nurses' roles and experiences in primary health care settings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, this study identifies the roles and experiences of nurses in primary health care during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A scoping review study design and the Joanna Briggs Institute methodology were used. The study searched five electronic databases (PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, Scopus, and PsychINFO) and included studies published in English from March 2020 to June 2023 that focused on the roles and experiences of nurses (participants) during COVID-19 (concept) in primary health care settings (context). Results: Fourteen articles were selected for review, involving a total of 1,487 nurses as study participants. The various roles undertaken by nurses in primary health care settings were categorized as comprehensive care providers, supporters and empowerers, coordinators and collaborators, information navigators, and change agents. Challenges and strategies are multilevel intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational, community, and societal issues, but are not mutually exclusive. Conclusions: The pandemic-induced challenges revealed primary health care nurses' vital and indispensable roles and resilience. They also fostered a heightened awareness of technological influence on the progression of primary health care in the current milieu. Policymakers and healthcare organizations need to integrate primary health care nurses' expanding and emerging roles within the scope of practice, ensuring their effective implementation without excessive regulatory constraints. This study emphasizes the importance of developing multilevel interventions to address the support needs of primary health care nurses through a system-based approach. Building a strong infrastructure to support nurses' self-care, offering continuing professional development opportunities, and securing official government recognition will be essential for enhancing the resilience of primary healthcare nurses in preparation for future, potentially devastating pandemics. Background: The integration of sex and gender aspects into the research process has been recognized as crucial to the generation of valid data. During the coronavirus pandemic, a great deal of research addressed the mental state of hospital staff, as they constituted a population at risk for infection and distress. However, it is still unknown how the gender dimension was included. We aimed to appraise and measure qualitatively the extent of gender sensitivity. Methods: In this scoping review, we searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL PsycINFO and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) from database inception to November 11, 2021. All quantitative studies with primary data published in English, German, or Spanish and based in the European Union were selected. Included studies had to have assessed the mental health of hospital staff using validated psychometric scales for depression, anxiety, PTSD symptoms, distress, suicidal behavior, insomnia, substance abuse or aggressive behavior. Two independent reviewers applied eligibility criteria to each title/abstract reviewed, to the full text of the article, and performed the data extraction. A gender sensitivity assessment tool was developed and validated, consisting of 18 items followed by a final qualitative assessment. Two independent reviewers assessed the gender dimension of each included article. Results: Three thousand one hundred twelve studies were identified, of which 72 were included in the analysis. The most common design was cross-sectional (75.0%) and most of them were conducted in Italy (31.9%). Among the results, only one study assessed suicidal behaviors and none substance abuse disorders or aggressive behaviors. Sex and gender were used erroneously in 83.3% of the studies, and only one study described how the gender of the participants was determined. Most articles (71.8%) did not include sex/gender in the literature review and did not discuss sex/gender-related findings with a gender theoretical background (86.1%). In the analysis, 37.5% provided sex/gender disaggregated data, but only 3 studies performed advanced modeling statistics, such as interaction analysis. In the overall assessment, 3 papers were rated as good in terms of gender sensitivity, and the rest as fair (16.7%) and poor (79.2%). Three papers were identified in which gender stereotypes were present in explaining the results. None of the papers analyzed the results of non-binary individuals. Conclusions: Studies on the mental health of hospital staff during the pandemic did not adequately integrate the gender dimension, despite the institutional commitment of the European Union and the gendered effect of the pandemic. In the development of future mental health interventions for this population, the use and generalizability of current evidence should be done cautiously. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The ability of socially assistive robots (SARs) to treat dementia and Alzheimer's disease has been verified. Currently, to increase the range of their application, there is an increasing amount of interest in using SARs to relieve pain and negative emotions among children in routine medical settings. However, there is little consensus regarding the use of these robots. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of SARs on pain and negative affectivity among children undergoing invasive needle-based procedures. Design: This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that was conducted in accordance with the Cochrane Handbook guidelines. Methods: The PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, CNKI, and WanFang databases were searched from inception to January 2024 to identify relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs). We used the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2.0 (RoB2.0) to assess the risk of bias among the included studies, and we used RevMan 5.4 software to conduct the meta-analysis. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework was used to assess the quality of the evidence. Results: Ten RCTs involving 815 pediatric subjects were selected for this review and reported outcomes related to pain and emotions during IV placement, port needle insertion, flu vaccination, blood sampling, and dental treatment. Children undergoing needle-related procedures with SARs reported less anxiety (SMD= -0.36; 95% CI= -0.64, -0.09) and fewer distressed avoidance behaviors (SMD= -0.67; 95% CI= -1.04, -0.30) than did those receiving typical care. There were nonsignificant differences between these groups in terms of in pain (SMD = -0.02; 95% CI = − 0.81, 0.78) and fear (SMD = 0.38; 95% CI= -0.06, 0.82). The results of exploratory subgroup analyses revealed no statistically significant differences based on the intervention type of robots or anesthetic use. Conclusions: The use of SARs is a promising intervention method for alleviating anxiety and distress among children undergoing needle-related procedures. However, additional high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to further validate these conclusions. Background : Several surgical options for degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) are available, but current guidelines do not recommend which one should be prioritized. Although previous network meta-analyses (NMAs) have been performed on this topic, they have major methodological problems and could not provide the convincing evidence and clinical practical information required. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing at least two surgical interventions were included by searching AMED, CINAHL, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and MEDLINE (inception to August 2023). A frequentist random-effects NMA was performed for physical function and adverse events due to any reason. For physical function, three follow-up time points were included: short-term (< 6 months post-intervention), mid-term (≥ 6 months but < 12 months), and long-term (≥ 12 months). Laminectomy was the reference comparison intervention. Results: A total of 43 RCTs involving 5017 participants were included in the systematic review and 28 RCTs encompassing 14 types of surgical interventions were included in the NMA. For improving physical function (scale 0–100), endoscopic-assisted laminotomy (mean difference: − 8.61, 95% confidence interval: − 10.52 to − 6.69; moderate-quality evidence), laminectomy combined with Coflex (− 8.41, − 13.21 to − 3.61; moderate quality evidence), and X-stop (− 6.65, − 8.60 to − 4.71; low-quality evidence) had small effects at short-term follow-up; no statistical difference was observed at mid-term follow-up (very low- to low-quality evidence); at long-term follow-up, endoscopic-assisted laminotomy (− 7.02, − 12.95 to − 1.08; very low-quality evidence) and X-stop (− 10.04, − 18.16 to − 1.93; very low-quality evidence) had a small and moderate effect, respectively. Compared with laminectomy, endoscopic-assisted laminotomy was associated with fewer adverse events due to any reason (odds ratio: 0.27, 0.09 to 0.86; low-quality evidence). Conclusions: For adults with degenerative LSS, endoscopic-assisted laminotomy may be the safest and most effective intervention in improving physical function. Background: Inadequate medication knowledge may contribute to inappropriate medication use and treatment harms. We aimed to map and synthesise the existing evidence on patients' knowledge of the indications for their medications. Method: We searched MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, PsychInfo and the Cochrane Library for studies that assessed patients' knowledge of the indications for their medications from inception to June 16, 2022. A pair of reviewers independently screened and extracted data on study characteristics, aims, and methods used to assess and report patients' knowledge of the indications for their medications. Results: We included 99 studies conducted in 33 countries, published between 1979 and 2021, with 42,377 participants in total (median 126 participants [Interquartile range: 63–338]). Studies were observational (n = 77), experimental (n = 18), or qualitative interviews (n = 4). The exact question used to assess knowledge of the indications was reported in 27 studies and was phrased in 25 different ways. Knowledge of the indications was reported as a proportion of either 1) all participants (n = 65) or 2) the total number of medications used by all patients (n = 13). Sixteen studies used both reporting methods, while five only reported a proportion without specifying the denominator. Fourteen studies in various populations reported the number of participants with correct knowledge of all their medications, ranging from 19% (long-term psychiatric in-patients) to 87% (general practice patients). Conclusion: We did not identify any established scientific standard for assessing patients' knowledge of the indications for their medications. The wide range of study methodologies and reporting styles observed call for a methodological consensus in this research field. Estimates of correct knowledge varied widely between studies, but whether this was due to differences in study populations or study methodology could not be determined. Purpose: Polypharmacy presents many challenges to patient medication selfmanagement. This study aims to explore the self-management processes of medication in polypharmacy from the perspectives of both patients and healthcare providers, which can help identify barriers and facilitators to effective management. Methods: A systematic review of qualitative studies was performed by searching seven databases: PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and MEDLINE, from their establishment until August 2024. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) tool was employed to evaluate the quality of the studies included. The extracted data were then analysed thematically and integrated into The Taxonomy of Everyday Self-management Strategies (TEDSS) framework. Results: A total of 16 studies were included, involving 403 patients and 119 healthcare providers. Patient management measures were mapped into TEDSS framework, including categories such as medical management, support-oriented domains, and emotional and role management. Conclusion: Enhancing patients' proactive health awareness, improving medication literacy, balancing lifestyle adjustments with medication therapy, dynamically reviewing and optimizing medications, strengthening patients' social support networks, and helping patients integrate medication management into their daily life are the key elements that can effectively assist patients in self-managing their medications. Objective: The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize the literature pertaining to burnout and chiropractic. Methods: A literature review was performed in accordance with Preferred Reporting of Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). A literature review was performed by combining the term "chiropractic" with terms relevant to professional burnout (e.g., "work-related stress," "emotional exhaustion"). We included all publications addressing burnout within the chiropractic profession, including all study designs in only peer-reviewed literature. Results: Our search yielded 126 citations and 10 met the inclusion criteria. The studies identified consisted of eight surveys and two narrative reviews published from 2011 to 2024. Six of the studies utilized the Maslach Burnout Inventory to assess burnout. Chiropractic students reported greater burnout than the general population. Factors reported to increase burnout risk include higher workload, insurance mandates, and physical demands of daily practice. Factors reported to be protective against burnout included longer duration in clinical practice and philosophy-based practices. Conclusions: Research on burnout within the chiropractic profession is limited and may not be generalizable. However, the reported factors contributing to burnout are well-documented. Background: Social accountability (SA) measures institutional responses to societal needs. For medical education to be socially accountable, institutions must be equitably accessible and commit to training physicians who can work with communities to address health disparities. This scoping review aimed to explore the integration of social accountability into undergraduate medical education and examine the various ways it is implemented. Methods: The authors searched PubMed, OVID Medline, CINAHL, ERIC and Scopus electronic databases for articles published between January 1995 and June 2023 to explore how SA is integrated into undergraduate medical education. The enhanced version of Arksey's and O'Malley's six-stage protocol was used. Analysis was done using the thematic analysis approach. Results: Eight hundred twenty-six articles were retrieved in the preliminary search. After the screening, 17 articles were included for final review. From the findings, three thematic areas were derived, which included strategies applied in incorporating SA into undergraduate medical education, factors influencing the adoption of SA into undergraduate medical education, and programmes used to translate SA into undergraduate medical education. Conclusion: This scoping review provides a comprehensive overview of the strategies, programs, and influencing factors related to the integration of social accountability into undergraduate medical education. Background: Running is a widely practiced sport worldwide associated with a host of benefits on cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, and mental health, but often leads to musculoskeletal overuse injuries. The prescription of a foot orthosis (FO) is common to manage musculoskeletal impairments during physical activity or functional tasks. Although FOs are frequently prescribed by clinicians for symptomatic populations of runners, the existing literature supporting the prescription of FOs in runners has predominantly focused on either uninjured individuals or a mix of uninjured and symptomatic populations. Thus, the effects of FOs on the treatment and/or prevention of overuse running injuries need to be investigated to guide future research and assist clinicians in their decision-making process. Main body: This scoping review aimed to evaluate the immediate and long-term effects of FOs on lower limb biomechanics, neuromuscular parameters, and pain and disability in symptomatic runners, and to identify factors that may influence the effects of FOs. Five databases (CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science) were searched, resulting in 2536 studies. A total of 30 studies, published between 1992 and 2023 (730 symptomatic runners), were included following the removal of duplicates and the screening process. Wearing FOs while running is related to an immediate and a long-term decrease in pain and symptoms of overuse running injuries. Also, wearing FOs while running decreases eversion at the foot/ankle complex, leads to a more lateral plantar pressure at the heel and forefoot, and may change running motor control strategies. Finally, the effectiveness of FOs is influenced by its added features. Conclusions: This study provides recommendations for future research such as the need for standardized methods in describing FOs, considering participant characteristics such as foot morphology, and comparing different types of FOs. Also, this scoping review provides valuable insights for guiding the prescription and design of FOs, and suggests that integrating FOs into a comprehensive treatment plan may yield better results than standalone first-line treatments. Nonetheless, this scoping review highlights the need for future research to explore the optimal integration of FOs into injury-specific treatment plans. Background The COVID-19 pandemic led to rapid and wide-scale changes in graduate medical education and impacted the well-being of frontline physicians, including residents and fellows. While institutions and programs implemented initiatives to support the unique needs of trainees during the pandemic, there remains a gap in the literature in examining the approaches used, the domains of well-being addressed, and the effectiveness of these efforts. Objective To review the literature on interventions designed to promote resident and fellow well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods The authors conducted a scoping review of the literature published between January 1, 2020, and November 30, 2023, in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and ERIC to identify interventions to promote the well-being of trainees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Results Eighteen articles met inclusion criteria, mainly studies conducted in the United States (14 of 18, 77.8%). Most interventions targeted psychological well-being (16 of 18, 88.9%), with only a few studies that included interventions in the physical or social domains. Interventions entailed redeployment, schedule modifications, communication strategies, and expanded mental health support. Most interventions were limited to a few weeks' duration in the first surge phase of the pandemic. Only 11 studies (61%) reported outcome measures, and only 2 (11%) used instruments with validity evidence. Most studies did not report sufficient data to evaluate study quality. Conclusions While longer-term outcome data were often lacking, studies described a range of interventions to support resident well-being. Simple Summary: Colorectal cancer is the second highest cause of cancer mortality globally. Surgery is often performed to remove the cancer and improve survival. Special dyes, called fluorescent agents, can help surgeons identify the tumour tissue and guide them during the operation to precisely remove the cancer, thereby improving patient outcomes. The exact benefit of fluorescence-guided surgery in the management of colorectal cancer is not clearly established, necessitating this systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature to assess the safety and efficacy of this surgery. A total of 35 studies of 3217 patients were included in this analysis. This showed that fluorescence-guided surgery is a safe and effective approach, potentially reducing intraoperative blood loss and postoperative complication rates, when compared to surgery without the use of fluorescence agents. Further prospective clinical trials are required to establish the long-term oncological benefit of fluorescence-guided surgery. Background: The use of fluorescence agents and imaging systems is a promising adjunct in the surgical management of colorectal cancer. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of fluorescence-guided surgery in the management of colorectal cancer, with a comparison to conventional (non-fluorescence-guided) surgery. Methods: A literature search of MEDLINE, Embase, Emcare, and CINAHL databases was performed for studies that reported data on the outcomes of fluorescence-guided surgery, with or without a comparison group undergoing conventional surgery, for colorectal cancer between January 2000 and January 2024. A meta-analysis was performed using random-effect models, and between-study heterogeneity was assessed. Results: 35 studies of 3217 patients with colorectal cancer were included: 26 studies (964 patients) reported on fluorescence-guided surgery and 9 studies (2253 patients) reported on fluorescence versus conventional surgery. The weighted mean of the cancer detection rate of fluorescence-guided surgery was 71% (95% CI 0.55–0.85), with no significant difference in lymph node yield ratio (WMD −0.04; 95% CI −0.10–0.02; p = 0.201) between fluorescence and conventional surgery groups. There was a significantly lower blood loss (WMD −4.38; 95% CI −7.05–−1.70; p = 0.001) and complication rate (WMD −0.04; 95% CI −0.07–0.00; p = 0.027) in the fluorescence-guided surgery group, with a potentially lower anastomotic leak rate (WMD −0.05; 95% CI −0.10–0.01; p = 0.092). Conclusions: Fluorescence-guided surgery is a safe and effective approach in the management of colorectal cancer, potentially reducing blood loss and complications. Further randomised controlled trials are required comparing fluorescence-guided surgery with conventional surgery to determine its prognostic benefit and where it should precisely fit within the management pathway of colorectal cancer. Background: Existing evidence on the burden of mental health problems among pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV, a vulnerable population in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), is limited and fragmented, affecting the development of context-sensitive and integrated interventions. This systematic review aims to provide an up-to-date and comprehensive synthesis of available evidence to estimate the burden and identify the determinants of mental health problems among pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV across countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Methods: We will retrieve all relevant studies (published and unpublished) through searches in PubMed, Embase, PsycINFO, CINAHL, LILACS, Google Scholar, Scopus and Web of Science from inception to 30th June 2024, without language restriction. We will use the following search terms 'mental health disorder', 'mental health problem', 'pregnant women', 'postpartum women' and 'HIV' nested with all applicable alternate terms and the names of countries in SSA for running the searches. We will also search HINARI, African Index Medicus, African Journals Online, Academic Search Premier, medRxiv, ProQuest, EBSCO Open Dissertations, and reference lists of relevant studies. We will contact experts in the field for potentially relevant unpublished studies. All retrieved articles from the electronic databases and grey literature will be collated and deduplicated using Endnote and exported to Rayyan QCRI. Two reviewers will independently select studies using a pretested study selection flow chart developed from the pre-specified eligibility criteria. Two reviewers will extract data using a pretested data extraction form and assess the risk of bias in the included studies using the risk of bias tool for prevalence studies by Hoy et al. (2012). Any disagreements will be resolved through discussion between the reviewers. Binary outcomes (prevalence and incidence of mental health problems among pregnant and postpartum women living with HIV) will be evaluated using pooled proportions (for non-comparative studies) and odds ratio (OR) or risk ratio (RR) (for comparative studies), and mean difference for continuous outcomes, all will be reported with their 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity will be assessed graphically for overlapping CIs and statistically using the I2 statistic. If substantial heterogeneity is found, random-effects model meta-analysis will be performed; otherwise, fixed-effect meta-analysis will be employed. We will conduct subgroup analysis (to assess the impact of heterogeneity) and sensitivity analyses to test the robustness of the generated effect estimates to the quality domains. The overall level of evidence will be assessed using GRADE (Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations). Expected outcomes: The review is expected to produce an up-to-date and comprehensive synthesis of the available evidence, allowing for the generation of country-specific estimates of the burden of mental health problems among mothers living with HIV across SSA populations. This study analyzed the trends in ChatGPT-based learning research through a systematic review with bibliometric analysis. Based on the PRISMA guidelines, relevant articles were identified by searching several reputable sources (i.e., Embase, Scopus, PubMed, CINAHL, and WoS), and a total of 50 empirical articles that met the selection criteria were included. The results are twofold: (1) Bibliometric attributes of the research were identified. First, we found that authors from China, the United States, Australia, and Saudi Arabia are the most productive contributors to the field. Second, over 64% of the analyzed research was published in educational technology journals (e.g., EIT, AJET, ILE). (2) The systematic review identified key learning features of the research. Most research focused on non-specific learning, and subjects related to English learning in ChatGPT use were the second most frequently researched topic. The third most frequently researched subject is related to STEAM courses, in which most research employed ChatGPT-based assistant learning as an instructional design in the course. The role of ChatGPT-based learning in education involves domain experts, teachers/tutors, administrators, and learning tools. Regarding the educational context of the research, the participants were mainly in higher education settings, including undergraduate and graduate students. Based on the results, we concluded that research on ChatGPT-based learning in education is still in its early stages, with limited empirical studies addressing effective instructional design and learning strategies. The purpose of this review was to identify assessment instruments and their measurement properties for assessing evidence-based practice (EBP) knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behavior among students of manual therapy education programs. 7 electronic databases were systematically searched from inception to May 19, 2023. (MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, ERIC, EBSCO Discovery, LISA, Google Scholar.) Search terms were subject headings specific to each database (MeSH in MEDLINE) and relevant to evidence-based practice, assessment tools/instruments, and manual therapy healthcare professions. Eligible studies included students of manual therapy education programs (chiropractic, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, osteopathy) and provided evidence supporting instrument measurement properties (reliability, validity). Titles and abstracts were screened by 2 reviewers. Data on each instrument and its properties were extracted and tabulated by 2 reviewers. Instruments were compared using the Classification Rubric for EBP Assessment Tools in Education (CREATE) framework including the 5 steps in the EBP model. Joanna Briggs Institute methodology and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews checklist were followed. 5 studies were identified, (3 physiotherapy, 2 chiropractic) Two studies used a physiotherapy-focused modification of the Fresno test. One study presented the Knowledge of Research Evidence Competencies instrument. Two studies presented original instruments. Instruments focused on the knowledge domain and did not assess all 5 EBP model steps. The current literature does not address all 5 steps of the EBP model. Background: As our population ages, the demand for aged care services and palliative care is expected to increase. Allied health professionals have a diverse set of skills to offer in the management of older adults. This scoping review aimed to identify what evidence exists to support the best practice of allied health clinicians in palliative and aged care. Methods: Searches were conducted using broad keywords and MeSH headings with relevance to palliative, ageing and allied health care in the databases Ovid MEDLINE (R), CINAHL, EMCARE, INFORMIT, REHABDATA, PEDRO and SCOPUS, as well as the grey literature. Results: Only 15 studies met the inclusion criteria. A prominent finding was that regular exercise interventions delivered improved mobility, balance, sleep and quality of life outcomes when measured (n = 5). Broader allied health input and outcomes, such as nutrition, were not well described, other than to suggest an interprofessional approach contributed to health benefits where these were observed. Conclusions: The lack of research creates uncertainty about what excellent care looks like and how it can be measured, making it harder for allied health professionals to advocate for funded time in providing care at the end of life and leading to poorer outcomes for older adults. Background. Caregiver affiliate stigma concerning neurodegenerative disorders (NDDs) profoundly affects caregivers' well-being, though its full impact remains to be fully elucidated. Objectives. This scoping review aims to consolidate the current knowledge on caregiver affiliate stigma related to NDDs, explore its connection to caregiver psychosocial well-being, and pinpoint the gaps in the existing research. Methods. Adhering to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, a comprehensive search of five databases was conducted for peer-reviewed, English language studies focusing on caregiver-affiliated stigma in relation to NDDs. Results. The initial search yielded 9033 articles, with 19 meeting the inclusion criteria after rigorous screening. Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory was employed to analyze various stigma conceptualizations, including public, courtesy, affiliate, and family stigma. Analysis revealed a correlation between elevated levels of affiliate stigma and increased caregiver burden, deteriorated mental health outcomes, and diminished quality of life. The internalization of stigma was found to vary across demographic groups, influenced by factors such as education level and social support. The review also highlighted the mediating role of coping strategies and the protective function of social support against stigma internalization. Conclusions, These findings underscore the necessity for targeted, culturally sensitive interventions that address caregiver affiliate stigma across multiple ecological levels. Background/Objectives: Methodologies for assessing behavior form the foundation of health promotion and disease prevention. Physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SB) assessment methodologies have predominantly been developed for adults without an intellectual disability (ID), raising credibility concerns for adults with ID. The purpose was to synthesize the current state of assessment methodologies for quantifying PA and SB volume in the free-living setting for adults with an ID. Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, eleven databases were searched through December 2023, yielding 8174 records. Data were extracted in Covidence (v.2.0), obtaining quantified PA and SB volume and assessment methodology characteristics across data collection and analysis, including tool(s) and technique(s) used, preparatory actions taken, instructions provided, and behavioral strategies employed during data collection. Results: Of the 8174 articles screened, 91 met the inclusion criteria. Common metrics included minutes/hours per day/week and steps per day/week. Despite 80% of the studies using objective techniques, substantial variation existed across studies regarding wearable models, sampling frequency and epoch length settings, calibration protocols, wearable placements, and data processing techniques. Limited studies provided instructions that did not exclusively rely on spoken language. Behavioral strategies varied, including self-monitoring, providing assistance or supervision, administering questionnaires verbally, issuing reminders, and offering monetary incentives. Conclusions: This review underscores the need for greater consistency and accessibility in PA and SB assessment methodology for adults with ID. Tailored preparation, instruction, and behavioral strategies may enhance assessment viability and suitability for adults with ID, with or without caregiver or researcher involvement in the free-living setting. Objective Strokes are among the most destructive health problems. They can especially have detrimental effects on the occupational performance of sufferers. The experiences of patients suffering from stroke regarding the impact of the disease on their occupational performance, especially the barriers and facilitators of this performance, can help understand this phenomenon better and design client-centered interventions in this field. Nevertheless, a limited body of literature has investigated the encounters of these individuals and their familial caretakers within this domain. Therefore, the objective of this research is to synthesize the available research evidence regarding the experiences of stroke survivors and their family caregivers regarding barriers and facilitators of occupational performance after stroke. Materials & Methods All published articles were searched from 4 databases without a time limit according to the determined keywords. Among the 70 articles found, only 22 were included in the study and analyzed based on the quality indicators. Results The analysis of extractive studies led to the emergence of two categories of barriers to occupational performance with subcategories of individual obstacles, contextual barriers, and rehabilitation barriers and facilitators of occupational performance with subcategories of educational strategies, development of environmental support, and strengthening of individual strategy. Conclusion Clients with stroke have many barriers in their occupational performance, and the barriers that are related to the context of rehabilitation are significant. In addition to these important barriers, the existence of supportive and educational facilitators can help improve the client's occupational performance. A better understanding of the factors related to the occupational performance of patients suffering from stroke requires more studies, especially in the relationship between the context and professional issues of occupational therapy and clients' occupational performance. Background and objective Tuberculosis infection (TBI) screening and treatment delivered from primary care could hold the key to achieving tuberculosis (TB) elimination in lowTB burden countries. This scoping review was undertaken to understand how elements of the cascade of care for TBI screening and treatment have been implemented in primary care settings globally. Methods For this review, eight databases were searched, including PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Global Index Medicus, Scopus, Web of Science, ProQuest Dissertations & Theses Global and the Cochrane Library, to examine models of care for TBI screening and treatment in primary care. Results Eight articles were included from the 7207 articles screened. These eight articles describe models of care that are varied in their aim, design and focus and elements of the TBI cascade of care. Discussion Although primary care is well placed to offer TBI screening and treatment, robust referral, community mobilisation and systems support are critical. Introduction: Coaching is commonly used to facilitate leadership development among healthcare managers. However, there is limited knowledge of the components of coaching interventions and their impacts on healthcare managers' leadership development. This mixed-methods systematic review aimed to synthesize evidence of coaching to develop leadership among healthcare managers. Methods: The authors conducted a mixed-methods systematic review using a convergent synthesis design where quantitative and qualitative evidence was collected and analyzed concurrently using a matrix synthesis method. They reviewed studies published in English or Chinese by searching databases including MEDLINE (Ovid), CINAHL, Embase, Cochrane Library, Nursing & Allied Health Premium, Scopus, Wanfang, CNKI, SinoMed, and VIP databases from their inception to August 10, 2023, and updated the search again on July 9, 2024. Articles were screened and assessed for eligibility. First, from eligible studies, the qualitative data were extracted to describe intervention components, the perceived impact of coaching, and participants' perceptions of being involved in coaching intervention. Second, quantitative data analysis was conducted to describe the impact of coaching interventions and the frequency of each theme evolved in the data. Third, qualitative and quantitative data were synthesized using the matrix synthesis method. Results: A total of 13 studies were included in the analysis. Three qualitative studies were assessed as having 'no or few limitations', three case series studies were scored between five and eight out of 10 points, two quasi-experimental studies showed 'moderate' overall bias, and the five mixed-methods studies scored from 40 to 60% (out of 100%). For Objective 1, which covers the component of coaching (aims, ingredients, mechanism, and delivery), the typical aim of coaching interventions was to develop the leadership skills of middle management managers. The ingredients of coaching encompassed three distinct coaching categories and seven specific procedures. The mechanisms of most coaching interventions were based on theory and empirical evidence. The average delivery time was approximately four months. Overall, coaching positively impacts outcomes for managers, organizations, and staff (Objective 2). Perceptions of the participants toward coaching interventions were divided into six categories: barriers, facilitators, effective components, attitudes, satisfactory aspects, and suggestions for designing high-quality coaching interventions to improve leadership (Objective 3). Conclusions: The components of coaching interventions varied across different studies. The impact of coaching on leadership development was positive across three levels (manager, organization, and staff). Therefore, we recommend coaching as an intervention for healthcare managers aiming to enhance their leadership level. Background: The amount of prediction models for disability in older adults is increasing but the prediction performance of different models varies greatly, and the quality of prediction models is still unclear. Objectives: To systematically review and critically appraise the studies on risk prediction models for disability in older adults. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Science and Technology Journal Database (VIP), and Wanfang Database, published up until June 30, 2023. Data were extracted according to the Checklist for critical Appraisal and data extraction for systematic Reviews of prediction Modelling Studies (CHARMS). The Prediction Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) was used to assess the risk of bias and applicability of the included studies. In addition, all included studies were evaluated for clinical value. Results: A total of 5722 articles were initially retrieved from databases, 16 studies and 17 prediction models were finally included after screening. The sample sizes of studies ranged from 420 to 90,889. Model development methods mainly included logistic regression analysis, Cox proportional hazards regression, and machine learning methods. The C statistic or area under the curve (AUC) of models ranged from 0.650 to 0.853, and nine models had C statistic/AUC higher than 0.75. Age, chronic disease, gender, self-rated health, body mass index (BMI), drinking, smoking and education level were the most common predictors. According to the PROBAST, all included studies were at high risk of bias, and 10 studies were at high concerns for applicability. Only two studies reported following the Transparent Reporting of a Multivariate Prediction Model for Individual Prognosis or Diagnosis (TRIPOD) statement. After evaluation, only two models reached the standard of clinical value. Conclusion: Although most of the included prediction models had acceptable discrimination, the overall quality and clinical value of the current studies were poor. In the future, researchers should follow the TRIPOD statement and PROBAST checklist to develop prediction models with larger sample sizes, more reasonable study designs, and more scientific analysis methods, to improve the predictive performance and application value.
