Defect engineering has proven to be one of the most effective approaches for the design of high-performance electrocatalysts. Current methods to create defects typically follow a top-down strategy, cutting down the pristine materials into fragmented pieces with surface defects yet also heavily destroying the framework of materials that imposes restrictions on the further improvements in catalytic activity. Herein, we describe a bottom-up strategy to prepare free-standing NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanoplatelets with abundant internal defects by controlling their growth behavior in acidic conditions. Our best-performing nanoplatelets exhibited the lowest overpotential of 241 mV and the lowest Tafel slope of 43 mV/dec for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) process, superior to the pristine LDHs and other reference cation-defective LDHs obtained by traditional etching methods. Using both material characterization and density functional theory (DFT) simulation has enabled us to develop relationships between the structure and electrochemical properties of these catalysts, suggesting that the enhanced electrocatalytic activity of nanoplatelets mainly results from their defect-abundant structure and stable layered framework with enhanced exposure of the (001) surface.

Exosome-like nanoparticles （ELNs） are nano-sized extracellular vesicles enclosed by lipid bilayer membrane and secreted by cells; And carrying a variety of cargo, including lipids, proteins, miRNAs and secondary metabolites. Plant ELNs have received widespread attention due to their unique structure and excellent physiological activity. This review summarizes the isolation methods, characteristics, components and functions of plant ELNs, focusing on the application of multi-omics technologies in plant ELNs. In addition, some suggestions for further study of plant ELNs were put forward.

Objective To investigate the nursing knowledge and attitude of pressure injury of nursing students who were about to finish clinical practice, and to provide reference for pressure injury training in schools and clinics. Methods Totally 188 nursing students from 3 hospitals in FuLing district of ChongQing were investigated by questionnaire on nursing knowledge and attitude of pressure injury. Results The total score of nursing knowledge of pressure injury was (43. 26±16. 14) points , 158(84. 04%)cases scored less than 60 points and 30(15. 96%)cases scored 60 or more points. The score of attitude was (41. 07±4. 50) points. Potassium-promoted layered double hydroxide (LDH)-derived materials are suitable elevated temperature CO2 adsorbents for pre-combustion CO2 capture. A challenge for the commercialization of LDHs as efficient CO2 adsorbents is their low capacities (ca. 0.5–0.6 mmol/g@400 °C) due to their hydrogen-bonded stacked structure. In this study, the aqueous miscible organic solvent treatment (AMOST) was used to exfoliate Mg3Al–CO3 LDH into nanosheets with a flower-like morphology, resulting in high surface areas of 287 and 212 m2/g for CC1 (washed with ethanol) and CC2 (washed with acetone), respectively. The exfoliated LDH structure exposed more interlayered CO2 active sites and promoters for alkali metal modification. Six impregnation solvents, water, acetone, ethanediol, ethanol, DMAC, and methanol were screened to optimize the CO2 uptake of 20 wt% K2CO3-promoted CC1. K2CO3/CC1(ed) using ethanediol as the impregnation solvent reached a CO2 working capacity of 1.46 mmol/g at 400 °C in the first cycle and 1.23 mmol/g after 10 cycles, twice the capacity of the commercial K2CO3/MG70. Material characterization indicated that the unexpectedly high performance of K2CO3/CC1(ed) could be attributed to the uniform K+ dispersion on the surface of K2CO3/CC1(ed) rather than bulk phase formation and the release of the residual solvent during calcination that could generate more paths for CO2 diffusion. Abstract: Shape-controlled synthesis of calcium carbonate with specific polymorphs can be achieved by the assistance of organic additives. In this study, highly uniform nanosized calcium carbonate spheres were synthesized by a fast precipitation method in the presence of a simple polymer, poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS). The polymorph of the synthesized calcium carbonate products changes from pure calcite in PSS-free reactions to vaterite in PSS-containing (1–50g/L) reactions. The effect of PSS on the formation of vaterite can be attributed to the two aspects: decrease of driving force by reducing the interfacial energy, and phase stabilization effect caused by the adsorbed PSS. A higher PSS concentration (50g/L) results in highly uniform vaterite nanospheres of 400–500nm in diameter. Furthermore, PSS is found more effective to induce the formation of vaterite in the Ca2+-rich reaction condition (Ca2+: =5:1) than in the -rich conditions (Ca2+: =1:5). It has also been found that different mixing mode of the calcium and carbonate precursor solutions has a significant influence on the size distribution of the products. Finally, with a controlled anion-exchange method, the as-prepared vaterite nanospheres can be easily transformed to hollow hydroxyapatite spheres, which exhibit great potential to be used as the drug carriers due to their considerably high surface area and biocompatibility. The rapid identification of bacterial Gram types and their viability, as well as efficient bacterial elimination are crucial for managing bacterial infections yet present important challenges. In this research, we utilized long-chain-tailed BODIPY derivatives to address these hurdles. Our data indicated that these derivatives can distinguish bacteria types and their viability in aqueous solutions through a concise turn-on fluorescent response. Among them, B-8 stained both live and dead bacteria, and B-14 offered a wash-free staining. B-18 demonstrated the highest affinity to selectively fluorescent label viable gram-positive bacteria with a 53.2-fold fluorescent enhancement. Confocal imaging confirmed that B-18 can serve as an effective membrane-specific probe for facilitating the typing between gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria in a wash-free manner. Additionally, B-18 displayed selective photodynamic inactivation at 1 μM toward gram-positive bacteria. Background: Current psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) are prevalent among adolescents. However, epidemiological data on the prevalence rate of current PLEs among college students and its clinical correlates are scarce and limited. To address this study gap, this study aimed to investigate the prevalence and correlates of current PLEs among Chinese college students., Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 18,578 college students in China. Each participant completed a survey on social-demographic characteristics variables, PLEs, sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore the influential factors for PLEs among all participants and suicidal ideation among those with PLEs., Results: Among Chinese college students, 40.3% of the participants reported having at least one PLE in the past month, while 7.5% had frequent PLEs. Males, age, residence location in town, left-behind experiences, poor family economic status, chronic physical illness, family history of mental disorder, BMI ≥ 28 [obesity], sleep disturbance, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation were independent correlates for frequent PLEs. Furthermore, the prevalence of suicidal ideation among participants with frequent PLEs was 32.1%. Lower grades, sleep disturbance, depression, and anxiety were independent predictors of suicidal ideation among college students who experience PLEs frequently., Conclusion: Current PLEs are widespread among Chinese college students. The efficient production of methanol by reduction of CO 2 using green hydrogen is a promising strategy from both a green chemistry and a carbon net zero perspective. Herein, we report the synthesis of well-dispersed core-shell catalyst precursors using silica@Cu x ZnAl-LDHs that can convert CO 2 to methanol. The catalyst precursors can be formed using either a commercially available silica (ES757) or a mesoporous silica ( e.g. MCM-48). These hybrid materials show significantly enhanced catalytic performance compared to the equivalent unsupported Cu x ZnAl LDH precursor. Aims: This study aimed to examine the subtype classification characteristics of sleep disturbance (SD) in college students and their associations with sample characteristic factors and mental health outcomes., Methods: The sample comprised 4,302 college students (Mean age = 19.92 ± 1.42 years, 58.6% females). The Youth Self-Rating Insomnia Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, 8-item Positive Subscale of the Community Assessment of Psychic Experiences, and 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale were used to assess adolescents' sleep disturbance, depressive symptoms, psychotic-like experiences (PLEs), and resilience. Latent profile analysis, logistic regression, and liner regression analysis were used to analyze the data., Results: Three subtypes of SD in college students were identified: the high SD profile (10.6%), the mild SD profile (37.5%), and the no SD profile (51.9%). Compared with college students in the "no SD" profile, risk factors for "high SD" include being male and poor parental marital status. Sophomores were found to predict the "high SD" profile or "mild SD" profile relative to the "no SD" profile. The development of future mobility ( e.g. electric vehicles) requires supercapacitors with high voltage and high energy density. Conventional active carbon-based supercapacitors have almost reached their limit of energy density which is still far below the desired performance. Advanced materials, particularly metal hydroxides/oxides with tailored structure are promising supercapacitor electrodes to push the limit of energy density. To date, research has largely focused on evaluation of these materials in aqueous electrolyte, while this may enable high specific capacitance, it results in low working voltage window and poor cycle stability. Herein, we report the development of Ni 2 Mn-layered double oxides (Ni 2 Mn-LDOs) as mixed metal oxide-based supercapacitor electrodes for use in an organic electrolyte. Ni 2 Mn-LDO obtained by calcination of [Ni 0.66 Mn 0.33 (OH) 2 ](CO 3 ) 0.175 · n H 2 O at 400 °C produced the best performing Ni 2 Mn-LDOs with high working voltage of 2.5 V and a specific capacitance of 44 F g -1 (at 1 A g -1 ). We believe the performance of the Ni 2 Mn-LDOs is related to its unique porous structure, high surface area and the homogeneous mixed metal oxide network. Ni 2 Mn-LDO outperforms both the single metal oxides (NiO, MnO 2 ) and the equivalent physical mixture of the two oxides. We propose this performance boost arises from synergy between NiO and MnO x due to a more effective homogeneous network of NiO/MnO x domains in the Ni 2 Mn-LDO. This work clearly shows the advantage of an LDO over the single component metal oxides as well as the physical mixture of mixed metal oxides and highlights the possibilities of development of further mixed metal oxides-based supercapacitors in organic electrolyte using LDH precursors., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts to declare., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)
