In this short contribution we analysed the flint and polished stone material discovered by E. Comșa in the archaeological test pit excavated in 1959, on the tell settlement from Luncavița, „Cetățuia” point. Named Trench B, it had the dimensions 8 × 3 m and it was excavated in the interval 12-26 November 1959, in this campaign participating, alongside E. Comșa, Gh. Cantacuzino and G. Simion. In this analysis, we approached several aspects that contribute to improving our understanding of an artifact`s operational sequence from raw material block to discarded item.

This paper analyzes the polished stone objects (35 in total) found in the Gulmenita culture settlement at Trestenic, Nalbant commune, Tulcea County. The site was found in 1988, during surface investigations and is situated on a low terrace, close to Techea Creek. In 1989, the only archaeological survey campaign was conducted. On this occasion, an area 25 m long and 5 m wide was incompletely set out and researched, down to 3.35 m. In this analysis, we approached several aspects that contribute to improving our understanding of an artifact’s operational sequence from raw material block to discarded item.

Rail is the one of the highly underused form of freight transportation in the European Union. Majority of the freightage are distributed by trucks and HGVs. With new regulations and socio-environmental concerns urban logistics is facing a new challenge which can be tackled using innovative transport mechanisms and streamline operations. This article sheds light on a system which integrates freight distribution via metro lines in the closest vicinity of the customer, use of council warehouses and further innovative transport mechanisms for final delivery. This system uses existing infrastructure effectively without impacting its surroundings and triggers the reduction of polluting carriers. This system offers the option of immediate implementation which will enable EU to compete with a global freight distribution market.

The geographical position of Babadag Lake, south of the Danube Delta, raises the question of its possible connection to Razim Lake. The study of this connection is based on the diachronic analysis of 38 old maps of the analyzed area from the 16th century until nowadays. In this study, maps are seen as analysis instruments that permit the observation of the evolution of landscape and the chronology of the evolution of the connection between Babadag and Razim Lakes, based on comparison of documents from different historic periods. The cartographic diachronic analysis allows the identification of the big tendencies between opening and closure: periods of Babadag Lake opening to Razim Lake and vice versa, periods of separation of the two Lakes, as well as the current situation when the connection between the two lakes is reduced to expansion of vegetation or to artificial water exchange through a watergate. This study will be followed by a sedimentary analysis based on a coring at the site in 2011.

International audience; Recent excavations at Taraschina, south-eastern Romania, have revealed an extensive Chalcolithic settlement in the heart of the Danube Delta. Based on ceramic data, Taraschina was attributed to the Gumelniţa Culture and dated to the mid 5th millenium BC by radiocarbon dating. Phytolith analysis was conducted at Taraschina in order to reconstruct some activities carried out by the Chalcolithic populations in the Danube Delta. The study was undertaken on the site sediments, as well as on additional deposits sampled around the site by coring. The results show that phytoliths characterizing cereal processing are attested in archaeological deposits, as well as in the surrounding sequence. Our study highlights an important signal of cereal processing in the heart of the Danube Delta, 6000 years ago.

The archaeological mission « Delta du Danube » is studying for more than six years the coevolution human-environment in the Danube Delta at the end of the Neolithic. This article offers a synthesis of the main results obtained from the analysis of the Gumelnița lithic industry in the Northern Dobrogea. The authors have taken into consideration both older collections as well as new ones discovered during the excavations deployed in the mentioned archaeological mission, most of all the tell settlement Taraschina (Maliuc commune). This variety of information allowed a good characterization of the Gumelnița lithic series discovered in the north of Dobrogea. The most important characteristic is represented by the import of raw material from the prebalkanic platform situated in the north-east of Bulgaria. These imports were oriented towards blade type products that were later transformed into a variety of finished objects. The typology is dominated by the end-scraper. A complete technological image will allow integrating the lithic information in the reflections regarding the socio-economic and environmental changes inside Gumelnița societies., Misiunea arheologică franco-română «Delta du Danube » studiază de mai mult de șase ani evoluția sincronă om- mediu în Delta Dunării la finalul Neoliticului.

International audience; In this article the authors present the results of the archaeological researches conducted by “Delta du Danube” Franco-Romanian team at the tell-settlement in Lunca (Ceamurlia de Jos Village, Tulcea County). A preliminary analysis of the archaeological material discovered at the surface is realized and the stratigraphy of the site - as shown in surveys conducted by a core drill - is revealed. Based on a radiocarbon test performed on a piece of charcoal, sampled from a thermally converted horizon identified at -1,74 m depth, the beginning of the settlement can undoubtedly be placed sometime between 4500 and 4350 BC
