Background: Outcomes-based education is a trend in medical education and its assessment is one of the main challenges. The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is one of the tools used to assess clinical competencies. Although Chilean medical schools have used OSCEs for 18 years, there is a vast variability in the way these examinations are administered. Aim: To design and implement an integrated OSCE to assess clinical competencies at the end of the medical program in Chilean medical schools, aiming to reduce variability between these schools. Material and Methods: Seven medical schools, supported by experts from the National Board of Medical Examiners, designed a 12 station OSCE to measure clinical outcomes at the end of the seventh year of medical training. Unlike traditional OSCEs, this new examination incorporated the assessment of clinical reasoning and communication skills, evaluated from patients’ perspective. Results: One hundred twenty-five volunteers took the same exam at five different venues. The internal consistency was 0.62. Following a compensatory approach, 85% of students passed the exam. Communication assessment showed poorer results than those reported in the literature. Conclusions: Among Chilean medical students, the assessment of clinical outcomes in a collaborative way, through a valid and reliable exam, is feasible. A consensus on how to teach and assess clinical reasoning across the medical curriculum is required. The assessment of students’ communication skills requires further development.

Este trabajo de investigación ha buscado, en término general, encontrar si existe dependencia para las variables calidad de gestión institucional y satisfacción del usuario en el área de Terapia Física y Rehabilitación en el Centro de Salud San Francisco, Tacna, año 2016. Para el logro de nuestro propósito se optó por una investigación de carácter correlacional, de carácter básico, y tipo transversal. La unidad de análisis estuvo compuesta por 60 pacientes que acudieron interdiariamente, durante tres meses a atenderse en diversas patologías que se tratan en el área de Terapia Física y Rehabilitación perteneciente al C. S. S. Francisco, ubicado en el distrito G. Albarracín de la región de Tacna. Para el procesamiento de los resultados, se realizó el contraste de hipótesis de las variables estudiadas, utilizando el programa SPSS V. 22. Se determinó, además, la correlación planteada en la hipótesis para las dos variables de estudio; encontrándose para ello el coeficiente de correlación Pearson “r “de 0,037, lo cual indicó una insignificancia de correlación, para las variables formuladas. Los análisis demostraron ausencia de relación entre las variables planteadas. Un 63,3% de los pacientes entrevistados señalaron como regular a la calidad de gestión institucional. Un 50% de los usuarios entrevistados señalaron que la satisfacción del servicio ofrecido es regular; pero un gran porcentaje (43,3%) la tipifican como mala; es decir no existe una percepción positiva mayoritaria por los usuarios en cuanto a la satisfacción del servicio ofrecido por el área de estudio en el C.S. San Francisco, ubicado en la región Tacna, año 2016. This investigation work has sought, to find the connections for the quality of institutional management and patient satisfaction in the care in Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation at the San Francisco Health Center, Tacna, in 2016. For the purpose of our purpose we opted for a descriptive-explanatory, correlational, non-experimental, basic, prospective and cross-sectional investigation. The unit of analysis consisted of a total of 60 patients who came for three months to attend to various pathologies that are treated in the area of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation belonging to the San Francisco Health Center located in the district of G. Albarracin of Tacna. For the processing of the results, the hypothesis was tested against the variables studied, using the SPSS V 22 program. The correlation was also determined in the hypothesis for the two study variables; finding for the correlation coefficient, according to Pearson an "r" value of 0,037, this indicated a non-significant correlation between the formulated variables. The results obtained showed the absence of relationship between the variables. A 63,3% of patients interviewed indicated that the quality of institutional management is regular. Fifty percent of the patients interviewed indicated that the satisfaction of the offered service is regular; but a large percentage (43,3%) typify it as bad; that is to say, there is no positive majority perception by the users regarding the satisfaction of the service offered by the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation area belonging to the C.S. The world population is undergoing an aging process without precedent. This aging process is favoured by best health habits, and advancements in medicine and pharmacology, among other factors. For this reason, national and international agencies are replying with appropriate programs, so as to make sure that this stage of life is being lived in the best conditions, thereby promoting the so-called «active ageing». The aim of this work is to highlight this phenomenon, focusing on two mainideas: the contribution of the elderly to society through social volunteer work, and continuing formation as a challenge, after years of dedication to work and the upbringing and education of children. La población mundial se encuentra en un proceso de envejecimiento sin precedente en épocas anteriores. Este envejecimiento está propiciado por mejores hábitos de salud y los avances en la medicina y la farmacología, entre otros factores. Ante ello, los organismos nacionales e internacionales se hacen eco con programas adecuados, para que esta etapa de la vida sea vivida en las mejores condiciones, fomentando con ello el denominado envejecimiento activo. Poner esto de relieve es el objetivo de este trabajo y dentro de ese marco destacamos dos ejes: la contribución de los mayores a la sociedad desde el voluntariado, y la formación permanente como un reto a conseguir, tras años de dedicación a la actividad profesional y a la crianza y educación de los hijos.
