Objective: Intra-articular screw penetration is a probable complication of coronoid fracture fixation. The present study aimed to determine the best radiography technique for visualizing the proximal radioulnar joint (PRUJ) space. Moreover, it aimed to determine the safe angle and length of the screw to avoid PRUJ penetration during coronoid fracture fixation., Methods: The Mimics software was used to construct a three-dimensional model of a healthy man's forearm from a computer tomography scan. It was analyzed using the Solidworks software to determine the X-ray angle that clearly showed the PRUJ space to detect penetration of screws from the coronoid process into the PRUJ and determine the maximum screw angle and length that could be used without intra-articular penetration. To verify these findings, a cadaveric study combined with radiographs was conducted., Results: To visualize PRUJ space, the optimal X-ray angle was 13º lateral to the perpendicular line when the forearm was positioned at full supination. If the coronoid process was segmented into zones 1 (closest to the radioulnar joint) to 4 (farthest from the joint), the screw could only be inserted at a right angle in zone 1. In zones 2, 3, and 4, inclination angles less than 15, 35, and 60 would prevent intra-articular penetration, respectively., Conclusions: The X-rays could visualize the PRUJ space with an anteroposterior radiograph at an angle of 13º ulnar deviation from the perpendicular plane. Background: Competitive sailing requires efforts pertinent to physiological limitations and coordination between different parts of the body. Such coordination depends on the torques applied by muscles to the joints., Objective: This study aims to simulate the motion and provide a control law for the joint torques in order to track the desired motion paths., Material and Methods: In this analytical study, an inverse dynamics based control is employed in order to simulate the motion by tracking the desired movement trajectories. First, the dynamics equations are obtained using Lagrange method for 5 degrees of freedom (5 DOF) model. In the following, a robust control scheme with inverse dynamics method based on the Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) approach is employed to track the desired joint angles obtained from the experiment., Results: The simulation results demonstrate the performance of the proposed control method. Low settling times are achieved for the entire joint, which is appropriate in comparison with the time period of each cycle (3.75 s). Also, the maximum torques required to be applied to the joints are in physiological range., Conclusion: This study provided an appropriate model for the analysis of human movement in rowing sport. The model can also be cited in terms of basic biological theories in addition to practical computational uses in biomechanical engineering. Background: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) disability has been particularly frustrating because its treatment has been a great therapeutic challenge. Disability has been suggested to depend on different factors that should be found and considered in the medical management. The inter-segmental coordination is often impaired in CLBP subjects; however, to the best of our knowledge, there is no evidence about the relationship between the existence of coordination problems and disability in CLBP patients., Objective: To evaluate the correlation between sagittal plane trunk-pelvis inter-segmental coordination parameters during walking and disability level in CLBP patients., Methods: Kinematic data were collected from 16 non-specific CLBP (18-40 years) volunteers during walking. Sagittal plane time-normalized segmental angles and velocities were used to calculate continuous relative phase for each data point. Coordination parameters, mean absolute relative phase (MARP) and deviation phase (DP) were derived to quantify the trunk-pelvis coordination pattern and variability during gait cycles, respectively. The disability level was quantified through Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) questionnaire. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to find the probable correlation between coordination parameters and disability level., Results: The analysis demonstrated a significant correlation between sagittal plane MARP or DP and disability level (%ODI) in CLBP subjects during walking (r= -0.806 P<0.001 and r= -0.856, P<0.001, respectively)., Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the lower the MARP (more in-phase pattern) and DP (less variable pattern) in the CLBP subjects, the more disability existing in such patients. The results suggest that clinicians should look beyond pain management when prescribing rehabilitation for CLBP and consider interventions that target segmental coordination improvement to manage CLBP induced disability.
