Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) restores a balanced intestinal flora, which helps to cure recurrent Clostridium difficile infections (RCDI). FMT has also been used to treat other gastrointestinal diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and chronic constipation, as well as a variety of non-GI disorders. The purpose of this review is to discuss gut microbiota and FMT treatment of GI and non-GI diseases. An imbalanced gut microbiota is known to predispose one to Clostridium difficile infections (CDI), IBD, and IBS. However, the complex role of the gut microbiota in maintaining health is a newer concept that is being increasingly studied. The microbiome plays a major role in cellular immunity and metabolism and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of non-GI autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome, obesity, and even some neuropsychiatric disorders. Many recent studies have reported that viral gastroenteritis can affect intestinal epithelial cells, and SARS-CoV-2 virus has been identified in the stool of infected patients. FMT is a highly effective cure for RCDI, but a better understanding of the gut microbiota in maintaining health and controlled studies of FMT in a variety of conditions are needed before FMT can be accepted and used clinically.

Introduction: Linezolid (LNZ) is an effective antibiotic to treat patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment failure. M. tuberculosis strains resistant to isoniazid and rifampin are defined as MDR-TB. In recent years, resistance to LNZ among MDR-TB cases has been reported in several different countries. In this study, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the prevalence of LNZ resistance among MDR-TB isolates.Methods: The databases of Embase, PubMed/Medline, and Web of Science were searched systematically from January 2000 to April 2021. Statistical analyses were performed by using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. Heterogeneity was reported by using the t-squared statistic and Q-statistic. Begg’s rank correlation in combination with the funnel plot were used to evaluate any possible publication bias.Results: In total, 25 studies were selected for meta-analysis from 14 different countries; the majority was from China (n = 5) and Turkey (n = 4). Moreover, 7,366 patients were infected with MDR M. tuberculosis. Among the study population, 98 patients were co-infected with HIV, and 18 patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV). Furthermore, 28 cases had diabetes, and139 cases were alcohol abuser. Overall, 4,956 MDR M. tuberculosis strains were isolated from TB patients. The pooled frequency of LNZ resistance among the clinical isolates of MDR M. tuberculosis was 4.2% (95%). Begg’s (p = 0.72) test showed no evidence of publication bias.Conclusion: LNZ resistance among MDR M. tuberculosis isolates is increasing. On the other hand, long-term treatment of MDR-TB cases with LNZ alone is associated with several adverse effects. Thus, it is recommended that newer anti-TB drugs, including bedaquiline and delamanid, in combination with linezolid could increase its effectiveness and decrease toxicities. However, more studies should be done in this field.

The current study was undertaken to determine the concentration of lead, cadmium copper, and zinc (Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn) in three types of collected green leafy vegetables irrigated with contaminated water compared with those irrigated with the fresh water of Hamadan province, Iran using the inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) technique. Twenty samples of vegetables such as basil, leek, and lettuce irrigated with contaminated water, and twenty samples from five different adjacent areas irrigated with fresh water as control were analyzed to determine heavy metals (HMs). The highest mean concentration of Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn, regardless of the kind of vegetables irrigated with contaminated water, was 0.95, 0.32, 3.03, and 13.58 mg/kg fresh weight, respectively. Moreover, metals uptake differences by the vegetables were recognized to vegetable differences in tolerance to HMs. The human health risk assessment indicated that non-carcinogenic values of Pb and Cd were higher than the threshold value of 1, and ingestion was the main exposure pathway of HMs to both children and adults. It suggested that all receptors (especially basil and lettuce) in Hamadan province might have significant and acceptable non-carcinogenic risk because of exposure to Pb and Cd. The significant amount of these HMs in some plants may be due to agricultural uses for the irrigation of the vegetable lands of untreated sanitary and industrial wastewater. The findings revealed that vegetables imply the total health risk on local people, and regular monitoring of HMs is strongly recommended in this region.

Abstract Background COVID-19 is a public health emergency with a high mortality rate and it reduces the patient’s Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) significantly. This effect is measured in the current study. Methods In a cross-sectional study in Iran, 320 randomly selected treated patients from COVID-19 were studied. To collect the required data, we applied a questionnaire that included socio-demographic factors, clinical characteristics, and questions on the patients’ HRQoL. Time trade-off (TTO) approach was used to measure the lost HRQoL attributed to COVID-19. Besides, we applied a two-limit Tobit regression model to determine the effects of the socio-demographic factors on patients’ health utility and the visual analogue scale approach was used to estimate the perceived total current health status. Results The overall mean (SE) and median (IQR) of the health utility values were 0.863 (0.01) and 0.909 (0.21) respectively. These values for the traders (those who were willing to lose a part of their remaining time of life to avoid the disease) were estimated at 0.793 (0.01) and 0.848 (0.17), respectively. The lowest amount of utility value belonged to the elderly (mean (SE) = 0.742 (0.04); median (IQR) = 0.765 (0.42)) and those living in rural areas (mean (SE)) = 0.804 (0.03); median (IQR) = 0.877 (0.30)). The univariate analysis showed that age, place of residence, and household size had a statistically significant effect on health utility. Moreover, findings of the regression analysis indicated that the participants’ age and hospitalization status were the key determinants of COVID-19 health utility value. Conclusion COVID-19 is associated with a substantial and measurable decrease in HRQoL. This decline in HRQoL can be directly compared with that induced by systemic health states.

Abstract Background Biofilm formation is regarded as a significant factor in the establishment of infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. P. aeruginosa is one of the most important causes of nosocomial infections. Today silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) are used as antimicrobials due to their well-known, chemical, biological, and physical properties. Exposure to nanoparticles could inhibit colonization of new bacteria onto the biofilm. Methods In the present work, the green synthesis of Ag-NPs was performed using the alcoholic extract of Eucalyptus camaldulensis. Ag-NPs and glutathione-stabilized silver nanoparticles (GSH–Ag-NPs) were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen (CNH) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) techniques were applied to investigate the structure of the modified nanoparticles. Then, the antimicrobial and antibiofilm potential of the prepared Ag-NPs and GSH–Ag-NPs against P. aeruginosa strains was evaluated using microbroth dilution method and their effects on the expression of las I and las R genes. Results In this study, a total of 50 P. aeruginosa isolates were recovered from clinical samples. According to the results, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) value of Ag-NPs against P. aeruginosa was determined to be 512–256 μg/ml, respectively, while the MIC and MBC value of GS–Ag-NPs against P. aeruginosa clinical strains was determined in a range of 128–256 μg/ml and 256–512 μg/ml, respectively. The mean expression level in las R, las I genes in P. aeruginosa strains treated with ½ MIC of Ag-NPs was decreased by −5.7 and −8fold, respectively. Background: Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the causes of nosocomial infections, especially in the intensive care unit. The emergence of multidrug-resistant strains of A. baumannii has caused many problems. One of the ways to handle the phenomenon of antibiotic resistance is the use of herbal medicines and their derivatives in place of or in combination with antibiotics. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of inhibitory effects of berberine as a barberry derivative on clinical isolates of A. baumannii, resistant to ciprofloxacin and imipenem in Hamadan hospitals. Materials and Methods: In this study, 70 clinical isolates of A. baumannii. were identified and diagnosed using conventional microbiology. Resistance of isolates was detected against imipenem and ciprofloxacin by disk diffusion and broth microdilution method. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of berberine as well as its combined effect with antibiotics were performed using broth microdilution method. Results: The results of this study showed that more than 90% of isolates are resistant to ciprofloxacin and imipenem. Imipenem and ciprofloxacin MICs were dtermined from 8 to 28 and 4 to 32 μg / mL, respectively. The berberine decreased the imipenem and ciprofloxacin MIC from zero to two fold and zero to one-fold, respectively Conclusion: High level resistance to imipenem and ciprofloxacin among A.baumannii isolates is cause of concern. Berberin, in combination with imipenem and ciprofloxacin, reduces MIC to a proper level, which can be used as an effective agent to reduce antibiotic resistance in bacteria.

Abstract Background Acinetobacter baumannii is an opportunistic pathogen that causes nosocomial infections especially in patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Accordingly, the aim of our study was to detection of adeABC efllux pump encoding genes and antimicrobial effect of the essential oil of Mentha longifolia and Menthol on the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of imipenem and ciprofloxacin in clinical isolates of A. baumannii. Methods A total of 75 clinical isolates of A. baumannii were collected. The presence of efflux pump genes was detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the essential oil of Mentha longifolia and Menthol and their combined effect with antibiotics were measured by microbroth dilution method and fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) index. Results The frequency of adeA, adeB, and adeC genes in clinical isolates of A. baumannii were 86.7, 90.7, and 92%, respectively. When the essential oil of Mentha longifolia was combined with ciprofloxacin and imipenem, MICs decreased 4- and 8-fold, respectively. In the combination of menthol with imipenem, the resistance to imipenem was reduced from 0- to 16-fold in 90% (63/70) of the isolates. Conclusion The presence of efflux pump genes in more than 90% of A. baumannii isolates indicates its potential role in inducing imipenem- and ciprofloxacin-resistance in this bacterium. Menthol has an antimicrobial effect as an active ingredient in Mentha longifolia. In the future, the combination of medicinal plants with antibiotics can be used as a complement in treating diseases caused by drug-resistant bacteria such as A. baumannii infections.

Purpose: Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) could be an emerging disease with a severe acute respiratory infection, and its epidemiology and unique medicinal properties are perpetually increasing. Regarding the lack of COVID-19 controls, this needs current technical events to worsen and treat. Antiviral Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) could also be effective in reducing and inhibiting the coronavirus. aPDT with various photosensitizers is a very favorable procedure to manage viral infections. Materials and Methods: A total of 37 articles related to the publication of this review manuscript were mentioned. Several scientific databases such as Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science (ISI), and Google Scholar have checked the key phrases of COVID-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), photodynamic therapy, and antiviral photodynamic therapy. All 50 main studies were found, and 37 related studies were deemed suitable for this study after review. Results: Studies have shown that aPDT with different photosensitizers can be used to treat viral lung complications caused by infectious pathogens such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), SARS-CoV-2, and influenza. Recent studies have shown that aPDT-mediated Methylene Blue (MB) can help control and eradicate coronavirus. In general, more research is needed to use antiviral photodynamic therapy to control COVID-19. Conclusion: Regarding the lack of treatment for COVID-19, MB-mediated aPDT can help reduce the impact of COVID-19. More evidence is needed to support aPDT as a treatment (SARS-CoV-2).

Introduction: Oral cavity a favorable environment for the growth and colonization of a wide range of bacteria. Plaques or dental biofilms are a wide variety of bacteria found on a tooth surface. The aim of the present study is to investigate the antibacterial effect of Daphne Oleoides on bacteria isolated from dental plaque. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, after the collection of dental plaques and isolation of bacteria, bacteria were identified using biochemical tests and Polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Leaves and stems of D. oleoides were collected in the growing season and dried in shadows. The aqueous, alcoholic and hydroalcoholic extracts of D. oleoides were withdrawn using the classical extraction method. Thereafter, its antimicrobial effects on bacteria isolated from dental plaque were examined using the disk diffusion method and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Data were analyzed using Turkey’s and Anova test (PResults: The obtained results of the present study confirmed the presence of Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus mutans in the collected dental plaques. The alcoholic extract demonstrated its highest antimicrobial activity against S. mutans with 20.55±1.05 mm inhibition zone and a Minimum lethal concentration (MLC) of 0.19 mg/ml. On the other hand, the lowest antimicrobial activity of the alcoholic extract was reported to be against S. epidermidis with 7.4±0.5 mm inhibition zone and MLC 12.5 mg/ml. Conclusion: The results of the current study indicated that the alcoholic extract of D. oleoides is able to withdraw antibacterial compounds on the bacteria which are responsible for oral infections.

Staphylococcus aureus is among the pathogens capable of developing a broad spectrum of infections in human beings. In addition to the hospital, the bacterium is present in the community and has a high resistance to antibiotics, which is also increasing on an ongoing basis. Resistance to β-lactam antibiotic family is one of the concerns about the bacterium that has encountered the treatment of such infections with difficulty. Due to the increased resistance and importance of this bacterium, new strategies are needed to control this pathogen. One of these approaches is the use of medicinal plants, which has attracted many researchers in the last decade. Several studies have been carried out or are being designed using various herbs to find active ingredients to deal with this bacterium. The aim of this study was to present the antibacterial activity of different medicinal plants and the effects of their active ingredients on methicillin-resistant and methicillin-sensitive S. aureus and to clarify the pathway to further studies in this regard.

Background: : Lead (Pb) is an important environmental pollutants that play a significant role in increasing the stability of some other pollutants by changing the microbial profile of the soil. Bacillus subtilis WPI is an abundant bacteria existing in wastewater. Because of laccase enzyme in this bacterium, the decomposition process of aromatic pollutants in wastewaters can be facilitated. We aimed to investigate the effect of different Pb concentrations on B. subtilis growth and biological activity of laccase enzyme in B. subtilis WPI. Material and Methods: B. subtilis WPI was isolated from the paper mill industrial wastewater of Hormozgan, Iran, from March to August 2017. After purification, the growth trend of B. subtilis WPI as well as the activity of laccase enzyme in different concentrations of Pb was investigated based on kinetic method. Results: Bacterial growth at Pb concentration of 400 mg/L reduced in a dose-dependent manner, and this decrease was significant at concentrations of 300 and 400 mg/L (P < 0.001). The level of laccase enzyme activity in the lead concentration range of 20-160 mg/L also reduced in a dose-dependent manner, which implied that the highest decrease was observed at lead concentration of 160 mg/L (P < 0.01). Our findings showed that there was no significant change in bacterial growth in lead concentration range of 20-200 mg/L, while a significant change was observed in the activity of laccase enzyme in the mentioned concentration range. Conclusion: Therefore, it seems that this reduction in enzyme activity can indirectly increase the stability of aromatic oil pollutants in the environment.

Background and Objectives: Escherichia coli is the most common causative agent of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in 90-80% of patients in all age groups. Phylogenetic groups of these bacteria are variable and the most known groups are A, B1, B2 and D. The present study aimed to evaluate the phylogenetic groups of E. coli samples obtained from UTIs and their relation with antibiotic resistance patterns of isolates. Materials and Methods: In this study 113 E. coli isolates were isolated from distinct patients with UTIs referred to Hamadan hospitals. After biochemical and molecular identification of the isolates, typing and phylogenetic grouping of E. coli strains were performed using multiplex PCR targeting chu, yjaA and TSPE4.C2 genes. The anti-microbial susceptibility of the isolates to amikacin, ampicillin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, ciprofloxacin, cefotaxime, imipenem, aztreonam, gentamicin, meropenem, nitrofurantoin, nalidixic acid and cefazolin was determined using disk diffusion method. Results: Of 113 isolates, 50 (44.2%), 35 (31%), 23 (20.4%) and 5 (4.4%) of samples belonged to group B2, group D, group A and group B1 phylogenetic groups respectively. All isolates were susceptible to meropenem, imipenem (100%), followed by amikacin (99.1%). The highest resistance rates were observed against ampicillin (74.3%) and nalidixic acid (70.8%). Correlation between phylogenetic groups and antibiotic susceptibilities was significant only with co-amoxiclav (P = 0.006), which had the highest resistance in phylogenetic group A. Conclusion: Prevalence of different phylogroup and resistance associated with them in E. coli samples could be variable in each region. Therefore, investigating of these items in E. coli infections, could be more helpful in selecting the appropriate antibiotic treatment and epidemiological studies.

Background and purpose: Brucellosis is a systemic infection caused by gram-negative coccobacilli and facultative intracellular bacteria of the genus Brucella. Interleukin-17 is one of the important cytokines that plays a role in controlling host immune response in patients with brucellosis. The aim of this study was to investigate polymorphism of the genes encoding IL-17 in patients with brucellosis compared to healthy subjects. Materials and methods: This case-control study included 86 patients with brucellosis who were selected based on clinical symptoms, serology, culture and PCR results. The control group composed of 86 healthy people. The polymorphism gene encoding Interleukin-17 was evaluated in both groups by PCR-RELP method. Results: Current study showed that the frequencies of AA [OR=0.047 (95%CI: 0.01-0.12)] and GG [OR=337.20 (95%CI: 20.49-5541.39] were significant at position -1998 (G/A) in both cases and controls [P-values (AA) and (GG) = 0.001]. But, the frequency of AA genotypes in the control group was greater than the frequency of GG genotype in patients. The odds ratio for catching brucellosis in people who have genotype GG was 41 times higher than those who have genotype AA. Conclusion: Findings showed that, AA and AG genotypes at -1998 (A/G) position are more important. So, the risk of brucellosis in people with GG genotype at position -1998 was higher than that in people with AA genotype. In other words, people with AA genotype are more protected against brucellosis at this position.

Background: Brucellosis is a systemic infection caused by gram-negative coccobacilli and facultative intracellular bacteria of the genus brucella. Brucellosis is a bacterial disease common to humans and livestock. Infection with Brucella spp. continues to pose a human health risk globally despite strides in eradicating the disease from domestic animals. The humoral and cellular immunity plays an important role in brucellosis. The effect of phagocytosis and cellular immunity has been demonstrated in brucellosis. The effect of cupping as a therapeutic method on bacterial diseases has been demonstrated. By considering this fact that cupping is an effective method on host immune system functions and has potential effect to regulate the inflammatory reactions. Methods: This experimental study was carried out on 48 rats in 6 groups (48 rats were divided into 6 groups) during the first 6 months from January 2015 to July 2016 in the laboratory of microbiology and animal of Hamedan University of Medical Sciences. The rats were infected through the injection of Brucella melitensis with plenty 5×105 (cfu/ml) of bacteria. After a week, in order to approve the accuracy of the infection in the studied rats inoculated with coombos Brucella melitensis, Wright test, 2-Mercaptoethanol test and Coombs' Wright test were used. The rats were then treated with cupping method in their sacral area. IFN-γ was measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. And the study of tissues using hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) Staining. Results: The results of this study showed that cupping leads to an increase in the mean serum level of interferon-gamma. The histopathological study of liver tissue showed that the radial arrangement was not observed in the infected group with brucellosis and the cells were acidophilus. While, the radial arrangement was observed in treated rats with cupping, but it was not complete. The number of enlarged sinusoids were reduced. But, cell infiltration was observed. Conclusion: This study showed that cupping can increase serum level of IFN-γ, and thus help to the clearance of disease and improvement of injury in the brucellosis animals lab.

purpose: Successful implementation of knowledge management applications requires recognition of success factors of knowledge management projects. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to examine the critical success factors of knowledge management in libraries of Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz. Methodology: This is an applied research and the research method is Survey. For collecting data a questionnaires based on (Hung et al., 2005) models is used. This questionnaire divides the critical success factors of knowledge management in ten dimensions. Findings: findings show, among the ten dimensions of critical success factors of knowledge management, manager support is the lowest average and the education is the most average. Finding also showed differences only between the knowledge-based performance measurement dimensions in libraries of Ferdowsi University and Shahid Chamran University. Conclusion: in the Knowledge management programs, success factors are the necessary activities that help successfully implement of knowledge management. These factors in the organization should be created, nurtured and developed.

Introduction: Urinary tract infections are the second common infection in children, which cause renal parenchyma damage- as the most major sequel. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of asymptomatic urinary tract infection (UTI) in primary school children of Hamadan City and drug resistance of isolated microorganisms in 2014. Methods: In this descriptive/analytical cross-sectional study, 350 urine samples were collected from the students of Hamadan City using the two-stage cluster sampling. The samples with positive nitrate and pH above 7 were cultured. Then, they were inoculated on the blood agar and Mac Conkey agar and after 48 hours of incubation, positive culture samples with at least 105 CFU/ ml were identified using standard microbiological methods. The sensitivity of isolated pathogens to 12 common antibiotics for gram negative bacteria and 11 common antibiotics for gram positive ones using the standard agar disk diffusion method was evaluated. The results were analyzed using SPSS version 19 and chi-square test. Results: The results showed that from 62 (17.7%) students suspected to UTI, 45 cases (12.8%) were diagnosed. The most common isolated microorganisms were Escherichia coli 16 (35.5%), Staphylococcus aureus 14 (31.1%), Staphylococcus saprophyticus 9 (20%) and Enterococcus spp. 6(13.3%), respectively. Also, it was found that E. coli was 100% sensitive to Nitrofurantoin. Regarding S. aureus and S. saprophyticus, amikacin was found to be the best antibiotic and ofloxacin for Enterococcus . Conclusion: Considering the prevalence of UTI without obvious symptoms in children, especially girls of primary school age and the probability of recurrence or its complications, screening, diagnosis and treatment of UTI in students is important. Furthermore, the impact of factors in the prevention of urinary tract infection with education in schools is essential.

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is the most important cause of nosocomial infections acquired in the community. Protein A is a major component of Staphylococcus aureus cell wall. In analysis of the nucleotide sequence Protein A encoding spa, locus x consists of 24 base pairs which repeat with high polymorphism. In this study, the spa gene of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from clinical specimens were obtained from patients admitted to the hospital and healthy carriers. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a total of 200 samples were collected. One hundred fifty samples were obtained from hospitalized patients and 50 samples obtained from staff nasal swabs in Hamadan University Hospitals from October 2013 to August 2014. Disk diffusion antibiotic susceptibility tests performed. The antibiotics studied were Vancomycin (30 µg), Cefoxitin (15 µg) Gentamicin (10 µg), Tetracycline (30 µg), Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole (25 µg), Ciprofloxacin (5 µg), Erythromycin (15 µg), Clindamycin (2 µg), Rifampin (5 µg). The tests performed according to the guidelines of clinical and laboratory standards institute (CLSI). It also detect the mecA gene of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strains (MRSA) and genes spa which encodes the protein A by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The PCR products using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method with enzyme Rsa I (Afa I) were prepared. Results: This methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain (MRSA) had the highest sensitivity and resistance to ciprofloxacin and clindamycin. Totally, 8 amplicon with different sizes for the spa gene were identified. A total of 9 patterns polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) were found. Some of these patterns between Staphylococcus aureus isolated from clinical specimens and nasal carriers were common. Conclusion: There is a similar pattern of spa gene among patients admitted to the hospital and staff, according to our findings. Analysis of the patterns can reduced transmission of infection in both hospital staff and patients. Also it can help the physicians for correct management of infections.

The population of 20,000 students from the Faculty of Psychology and Education was studying in the 1399 - 1400 Open University of South- Tehran. Critical conditions in covid can lead to negative psychological effects that affect the mental health of people. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to investigate the structural relationship between fear of covid and covid 's anxiety and coping strategies with the mediating role of anger. Concerns have been made about the personality characterize indices after the appearance of personality tests. In this regard, the aim of the present study was to compare the relationship between personality traits and social desirability in students with honest and faking responses. The present study was a causal-comparative study in which 235 students completed the research questionnaire. Subjects were randomly assigned into two groups: honest and faking. To collect the data in this study, NEO's personality questionnaire (1992) and social desirability scale by Crown and Marlow (1960) were used. The findings showed that there is a relationship between personality dimensions and social desirability, and this relationship is not meaningful between the two groups. Therefore, we can say that we must propose methods for controlling the probabilistic effect of social desirability in studies with a five-factor personality model.

Application of Archie equation in carbonate reservoirs is not easy due to high dependence of its parameters on carbonate characteristics. Carbonates are very heterogeneous in nature and hydrocarbon reserve estimation in these reservoirs of mostly oil-wet and intermediate-wet is highly influenced by the input values of saturation exponent. To our knowledge, non representative oils have been used in most saturation exponent measurements and not many cases have used live oil for carbonate cores at full reservoir conditions. Performing these experiments at laboratory conditions which differs from reservoir ones would not yield reliable results. The main effort of this study was to properly measure saturation exponent on some carbonate core plugs of an Iranian reservoir at reservoir conditions using live oil by porous plate technique. Resistivity index and capillary pressure by drainage process on some plugs from pay-zone and resistivity index by imbibition process on some plugs from near and within transition zone of studied reservoir were measured. Regression fits by using Archie equation were not satisfying. Hence, the regressions were also obtained without taking into account the origin point which insisted the use of a “b” (saturation distribution) factor in the Archie equation.
