Search

The symbiosis of strong interactions, flat bands, topology and symmetry has led to the discovery of exotic phases of matter, including fractional Chern insulators, correlated moir\'e topological superconductors, and Dirac and Weyl semimetals. Correlated metals, such as those present in Kondo lattices, rely on the screening of local moments by a sea of non-magnetic conduction electrons. Here, we report on a unique topological Kondo lattice compound, CeCo2P2, where the Kondo effect - whose existence under the magnetic Co phase is protected by PT symmetry - coexists with antiferromagnetic order emerging from the flat bands associated with the Co atoms. Remarkably, this is the only known Kondo lattice compound where magnetic order occurs in non-heavy electrons, and puzzlingly, at a temperature significantly higher than that of the Kondo effect. Furthermore, at low temperatures, the emergence of the Kondo effect, in conjunction with a glide-mirror-z symmetry, results in a nodal line protected by bulk topology near the Fermi energy. These unusual properties, arising from the interplay between itinerant and correlated electrons from different constituent elements, lead to novel quantum phases beyond the celebrated topological Kondo insulators and Weyl Kondo semimetals. We explore both experimental and theoretical aspects of the superconducting properties in the distinctive layered caged compound, Ba$_{3}$Ir$_{4}$Ge$_{16}$. Our approach integrates muon spin rotation and relaxation ($\mu$SR) measurements with magnetization and heat capacity experiments, accompanied by first-principle calculations. The compound's bulk superconductivity is unequivocally established through DC magnetization measurements, revealing a critical temperature ($T_\mathrm{C}$) of 5.7 K. A noteworthy characteristic observed in the low-temperature superfluid density is its saturating behavior, aligning with the features typical of conventional Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) superconductors. The assessment of moderate electron-phonon coupling superconductivity is conducted through transverse field $\mu$SR measurements, yielding a superconducting gap to $T_\mathrm{C}$ ratio ($2\Delta(0)/k_\mathrm{B}T_\mathrm{C}$) of 4.04, a value corroborated by heat capacity measurements. Crucially, zero field $\mu$SR measurements dismiss the possibility of any spontaneous magnetic field emergence below $T_\mathrm{C}$, highlighting the preservation of time-reversal symmetry. Our experimental results are reinforced by first-principles density functional calculations, underscoring the intricate interplay between crystal structure and superconducting order parameter symmetry in polyhedral caged compounds. This comprehensive investigation enhances our understanding of the nuanced relationship between crystal structure and superconductivity in such unique compounds.

Vacancies play a crucial role in solid-state physics, but their impact on materials with strong electron-electron correlations has been underexplored. A recent study on the Ir-Sb binary system, Ir$_{16}$Sb$_{18}$ revealed a novel extended buckled-honeycomb vacancy (BHV) order. Superconductivity is induced by suppressing the BHV ordering through high-pressure growth with excess Ir atoms or isovalent Rh substitution, although the nature of superconducting pairing has remained unexplored. Here, we conduct muon spin rotation experiments probing the temperature-dependence of the effective magnetic penetration depth $\lambda_{eff}\left(T\right)$ in Ir$_{1-{\delta}}$Sb (synthesized at 5.5 GPa with $T_{\rm c}$ = 4.2 K) and ambient pressure synthesized optimally Rh-doped Ir$_{1-x}$Rh$_{x}$Sb ($x$=0.3, $T_{\rm c}$ = 2.7 K). The exponential temperature dependence of the superfluid density $n_{\rm s}$/m$^{*}$ at low temperatures indicates a fully gapped superconducting state in both samples. Notably, the ratio of $T_{\rm c}$ to the superfluid density is comparable to previously measured unconventional superconductors. A significant increase in $n_{\rm s}$/m$^{*}$ in the high-pressure synthesized sample correlates with $T_{\rm c}$, a hallmark feature of unconventional superconductivity. We further demonstrate a similar effect induced by chemical pressure (Rh substitution) and hydrostatic pressure in Ir$_{1-x}$Rh$_{x}$Sb, highlighting that the dome-shaped phase diagram is a fundamental feature of the material. The local electronic structure of muons (Mu) as dilute pseudo-hydrogen in single-crystalline $\beta$-Ga$_2$O$_3$ has been studied by the muon spin rotation/relaxation ($\mu$SR). High-precision measurements over a long time range of $\sim$25 $\mu$s have clearly identified two distinct Mu states: a quasi-static Mu (Mu$_1$) and fast-moving Mu (Mu$_2$). By comparing this result with predictions from the recently established ambipolarity model, these two states are respectively attributed to the relaxed-excited states associated with the donor ($E^{+/0}$) and acceptor ($E^{-/0}$) levels predicted by density functional theory (DFT) calculations for the interstitial H. Furthermore, the local electronic structure of Mu$_1$ is found to be an OMu-bonded state with three-coordinated oxygen. The structure is almost identical with the thermal equilibrium state of H, and it is found to function as an electron donor. The other Mu$_2$ is considered to be in the hydride state (Mu$^-$) from the ambipolarity model, suggesting that it is in fast diffusion motion through the short-lived neutral state due to the charge exchange reaction with conduction electrons (Mu$^0+e^-\rightleftarrows$Mu$^-$)., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, plus Supplemental Material (3 pages, 6 figures)

We report on a microscopic study of the noncentrosymmetric superconductor W$_3$Al$_2$C (with $T_c$ = 7.6 K), mostly by means of $^{27}$Al- and $^{13}$C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Since in this material the density of states at the Fermi level is dominated by the tungsten's 5$d$ orbitals, we expect a sizeable spin-orbit coupling (SOC) effect. The normal-state electronic properties of W$_3$Al$_2$C resemble those of a standard metal, but with a Korringa product $1/(T_{1}T)$ significantly smaller than that of metallic Al, reflecting the marginal role played by $s$-electrons. In the superconducting state, we observe a reduction of the Knight shift and an exponential decrease of the NMR relaxation rate $1/T_1$, typical of $s$-wave superconductivity. This is further supported by the observation of a small but distinct coherence peak just below $T_c$ in the $^{13}$C NMR relaxation-rate, in agreement with the fully-gapped superconducting state inferred from the electronic specific-heat data well below $T_c$. The above features are compared to those of members of the same family, in particular, Mo$_3$Al$_2$C, often claimed to exhibit unconventional superconductivity. We discuss why, despite the enhanced SOC, W$_3$Al$_2$C does not show spin-triplet features in its superconducting state and consider the broader consequences of our results for noncentrosymmetric superconductors in general., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures, accepted by J. The study on the electronic state of muon as pseudo-hydrogen (represented by the elemental symbol Mu) has long been appreciated as one of the few methods to experimentally access the electronic state of dilute hydrogen (H) in semiconductors and dielectrics. Meanwhile, theoretical predictions on the electronic state of H in these materials by first-principles calculations using density functional theory (DFT) do not always agree with the observed states of Mu, standing as an obstacle to integrating the findings of both Mu and H. Intermetallic silicide compounds, LaScSi and Y$_5$Si$_3$, known for being hydrogen (H) storage materials, are drawing attention as candidates for electrides in which anions are substituted by unbound electrons. It is inferred from a muon spin rotation experiment that the local field at the muon site (which is the same site as that for H) in these compounds exhibits a large negative shift under an external magnetic field, which is mostly independent of temperature. Such anomalous diamagnetism signals a unique property of electride electrons associated with transition metals. Moreover, the diamagnetic shift decreases with increasing H content, suggesting that the electride electrons existing coherently in the hollow interstitial positions are adsorbed by H to form hydride ions (H$^-$), Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

A detailed zero-field and transverse-field muon spin relaxation/rotation ($\mu$SR) experiemnts have been carried out on the recently discovered non-centrosymmetric superconductor W$_3$Al$_2$C to speculate about its superconducting ground state. Bulk nature of superconductivity below 7.6 K is confirmed through magnetization measurements. No change in the $\mu$SR spectra collected above and below $T_c$ is visible, ruling out the possibility of spontaneous magnetic field below $T_c$. This confirms that time-reversal symmetry is preserved for W$_3$Al$_2$C upon entering in the superconducting ground state. Temperature dependent superfluid density [$\rho_s(T)$], which directly reflects the superconducting gap symmetry is obtained by the analysis of spectra obtained from the transverse-field $\mu$SR experiments. Despite a non-centrosymmetric structure, W$_3$Al$_2$C adopts a fully gaped spin-singlet superconducting ground state with a zero temperature value of gap $\Delta_0$ = 1.158(8) meV with gap-to-$T_c$ ratio 2$\Delta_0/k_BT_c\approx$3.54, classifying this material as a weakly-coupled superconductors., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

The magnetism of the second antiferromagnetic phase (AF2) arising in the iron-based LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_{x}$ superconductor for $x\gtrsim0.4$ was investigated by muon spin rotation measurements under hydrostatic pressure up to 2.6 GPa. The N\'eel temperature ($T_{\rm N}$) obtained for a sample with $x=0.51$ exhibits considerably greater sensitivity to pressure than that in the pristine antiferromagnetic phase (AF1, $x\lesssim0.06$). Moreover, while the AF1 phase is always accompanied by the structural transition (from tetragonal to orthorhombic) at a temperature ($T_{\rm s}$) which is slightly higher than $T_{\rm N}$, the AF2 phase prevails at higher pressures above $\sim$1.5 GPa where the structural transition is suppressed ($T_{\rm s}=0$). These features indicate that the microscopic origin of the AF2 phase is distinct from that of AF1, suggesting that electronic correlation plays important role in the former phase. We argue that the orbital-selective Mott transition is a plausible scenario to account for the observed pressure dependence of $T_{\rm N}$ and $T_{\rm s}$ in the AF2 phase., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

We report on the local electronic structure of interstitial muon (Mu) as pseudo-hydrogen in In-Ga-Zn oxide (IGZO) semiconductor studied by muon spin rotation/relaxation ($\mu$SR) experiment. In polycrystalline (c-) IGZO, it is inferred that Mu is in a diamagnetic state, where the $\mu$SR time spectra under zero external field is perfectly described by the Gaussian Kubo-Toyabe relaxation function with the linewidth $\Delta$ serving as a sensitive measure for the random local fields from In/Ga nuclear magnetic moments. The magnitude of $\Delta$ combined with the density functional theory calculations for H (to mimic Mu) suggests that Mu occupies Zn-O bond-center site (Mu$_{\rm BC}$) similar to the case in crystalline ZnO. This implies that the diamagnetic state in c-IGZO corresponds to Mu$_{\rm BC}^+$, thus serving as an electron donor. In amorphous (a-) IGZO, the local Mu structure in as-deposited films is nearly identical with that in c-IGZO, suggesting Mu$_{\rm BC}^+$ for the electronic state. In contrast, the diamagnetic signal in heavily hydrogenated a-IGZO films exhibits the Lorentzian Kubo-Toyabe relaxation, implying that Mu accompanies more inhomogeneous distribution of the neighboring nuclear spins that may involve Mu$^-$H$^-$-complex state in an oxygen vacancy., Comment: 5 pages (in double column), 3 figures

Magnetic properties of the electride compound Y$_2$C were investigated by muon spin rotation and magnetic susceptibility on two samples with different form (poly- and single-crystalline), to examine the theoretically-predicted Stoner ferromagnetism for the electride bands. There was no evidence of static magnetic order in both samples even at temperatures down to 0.024 K. For the poly-crystalline sample, the presence of a paramagnetic moment at Y sites was inferred from the Curie-Weiss behavior of the muon Knight shift and susceptibility, whereas no such tendency was observed in the single-crystalline sample. These observations suggest that the electronic ground state of Y$_2$C is at the limit between weak-to-strong electronic correlation, where onsite Coulomb repulsion is sensitive to a local modulation of the electronic state or a shift in the Fermi level due to the presence of defects/impurities.

The electron-doped high-transition-temperature (T_c) iron-based pnictide superconductor LaFeAsO_{1-x}H_x has a unique phase diagram: superconducting (SC) double domes are sandwiched by antiferromagnetic phases at ambient pressure and they turn to a single dome with a maximum T_c that exceeds 45K at a pressure of 3.0 GPa. We studied whether spin fluctuations are involved in increasing T_c under a pressure of 3.0 GPa by using ^{75}As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. The ^{75}As-NMR results for the powder samples show that T_c increases up to 48 K without the influence of spin fluctuations. The fact indicates that spin fluctuations are not involved in raising T_c, which implies that other factors, such as orbital degrees of freedom, may be important for achieving a high T_c of almost 50 K., Comment: Correponding Author: Naoki Fujiwara

The low energy electronic structure of LaFeAsO1-xHx (0.0 < x < 0.60), the system which exhibits two superconducting domes in its phase diagram, is investigated by utilizing the laser photoemission spectroscopy. From the precise temperature-dependent measurement of the spectra near the Fermi level, we find the suppression of the density of states with cooling, namely the pseudogap formation, for all doping range. The pseudogap in the low x range (i.e. the first superconducting dome regime) gets suppressed with increasing x, more or less similarly to the previous results in F-doped LaFeAsO system. On the other hand, the pseudogap behavior in the second superconducting dome regime at high-x becomes stronger with increasing the H-doping level. The systematic doping dependence shows that the pseudogap is enhanced toward the both ends of the phase diagram where the different types of antiferromagnetic order exist., Comment: 8 pages, 6 figures

It is inferred from the chemical shift of muon spin rotation ($\mu$SR) spectra that muons implanted in pristine (fully oxidized) mayenite, [Ca$_{12}$Al$_{14}$O$_{32}]^{2+}$[$\square_5$O$^{2-}$] (C12A7, with $\square$ referring to the vacant cage), are bound to O$^{2-}$ at the cage center to form OMu$^-$ (where Mu represents muonium, a muonic analog of the H atom). However, an isolated negatively charged state (Mu$^-$, an analog of H$^-$) becomes dominant when the compound approaches the state of electride [Ca$_{12}$Al$_{14}$O$_{32}]^{2+}$[$\square_4$2e$^{-}$] as a result of the reduction process. Moreover, the OMu$^-$ state in the pristine specimen exhibits depolarization of paramagnetic origin at low temperatures (below $\sim$30~K), indicating that OMu$^-$ accompanies a loosely bound electron in the cage that can be thermally activated. This suggests that interstitial muons (and hence H) forming a "cage electron-hydroxyl" complex can serve as electron donors in C12A7., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We studied the quantum critical behavior of the second antiferromagnetic (AF) phase in the heavily electron-doped high-$T_c$ pnictide, LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_x$ by using $^{75}$As and $^{1}$H nuclear-magnetic-resonance (NMR) technique. In the second AF phase, we observed a spatially modulated spin-density-wave-like state up to $x$=0.6 from the NMR spectral lineshape and detected a low-energy excitation gap from the nuclear relaxation time $T_1$ of $^{75}$As. The excitation gap closes at the AF quantum critical point (QCP) at $x \approx 0.49$. The superconducting (SC) phase in a lower-doping regime contacts the second AF phase only at the AF QCP, and both phases are segregated from each other. The absence of AF critical fluctuations and the enhancement of the in-plane electric anisotropy are key factors for the development of superconductivity., Comment: accepted in Phys. Rev. B

By a systematic study of the hydrogen-doped LaFeAsO system by means of dc resistivity, dc magnetometry, and muon-spin spectroscopy we addressed the question of universality of the phase diagram of rare-earth-1111 pnictides. In many respects, the behaviour of LaFeAsO_(1-x)H_(x) resembles that of its widely studied F-doped counterpart, with H^- realizing a similar (or better) electron-doping in the LaO planes. In a x = 0.01 sample we found a long-range SDW order with T_n = 119 K, while at x = 0.05 the SDW establishes only at 38 K and, below T_c = 10 K, it coexists at a nanoscopic scale with bulk superconductivity. Unlike the abrupt M-SC transition found in the parent La-1111 compound, the presence a crossover region makes the H-doped system qualitatively similar to other Sm-, Ce-, or Nd-1111 families., Comment: to appear in Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter

We examined the physical properties of homologous LanRu3n-1B2n (n = 1 - 3) series including a new compound of n = 2. All of these compounds showed strong electron-electron correlation characterized by large Wilson ratio. In contrast to LaRu2B2 and La2Ru5B4 that show normal metal behaviors down to 1.8 K, we discover La3Ru8B6 is an intermediately coupled BCS superconductor with Tc ~ 3.2 K. The experimental and theoretical calculation results suggest that the emergence of superconductivity in La3Ru8B6 attributes to the rather large density of states at EF when compared to other two compounds., Comment: 6 pages, 6 figures, 3 tables

We studied double superconducting (SC) domes in LaFeAsO1-xHx by using 75As- and 1H-nuclear magnetic resonance techniques, and unexpectedly discovered that a new antiferromagnetic (AF) phase follows the double SC domes on further H doping, forming a symmetric alignment of AF and SC phases in the electronic phase diagram. We demonstrated that the new AF ordering originates from the nesting between electron pockets, unlike the nesting between electron and hole pockets as seen in the majority of undoped pnictides. The new AF ordering is derived from the features common to high-Tc pnictides: however, it has not been reported so far for other high-Tc pnictides because of their poor electron doping capability., Comment: 5 figures, in press in PRL

To understand the recently established unique magnetic and superconducting phase diagram of LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_x$, we analyze the realistic multiorbital tight-binding model for $x=0 \sim 0.4$ beyond the rigid band approximation. Both the spin and orbital susceptibilities are calculated in the presence of the Coulomb and charge quadrupole interactions. It is found that both orbital and spin fluctuations strongly develop at both $x \sim 0$ and 0.4, due to the strong violation of the rigid band picture in LaFeAsO$_{1-x}$H$_x$. Based on this result, we discuss the experimental phase diagram, especially the double-dome superconducting phase. Moreover, we show that the quadrupole interaction is effectively produced by the vertex correction due to Coulomb interaction, resulting in the mutual development of spin and orbital fluctuations., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures, to be published in Phys. The structural properties of the CaFe2As2 have been investigated by x-ray and neutron powder diffraction techniques as a function of temperature. Unambiguous experimental evidence is shown for coexistence of tetragonal and orthorhombic phases below 170 K in contrast to existing literature. Detailed Rietveld analyses of thermo-diffractograms show that the sample does not transform completely in to the orthorhombic phase at the lowest temperature even though it is the majority phase. We have found that the unit cell volume of the orthorhombic phase is higher compared to that of the tetragonal phase for all the temperatures. X-ray data on CaFe2As2 shows anomalous (at) lattice parameter contraction with increasing temperature and phase co-existence behavior below 170 K unlike other members of the 122 family of compounds like SrFe2As2 and EuFe2As2. Temperature dependent magnetization of polycrystalline CaFe2As2 sample show weak anomalies below 170 K. This behavior of the polycrystalline sample is in contrast to that of a single crystal reported earlier., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures

We performed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements to investigate the evolution of spin-density-wave (SDW) and superconducting (SC) states upon electron doping in CaFe_{1-x}Co_{x}AsF, which exhibits an intermediate phase diagram between those of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_x and Ba(Fe_{1-x}Co_x)_2As_2. We found that homogeneous coexistence of the incommensurate SDW and SC states occurs only in a narrow doping region around the crossover regime, which supports S_{+-}-wave symmetry. However, only the structural phase transition survives upon further doping, which agrees with predictions from orbital fluctuation theory. The transitional features upon electron doping imply that both spin and orbital fluctuations are involved in the superconducting mechanism.

We have performed angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy of Co-based boride superconductor LaCo1.73Fe0.27B2 (Tc = 4.1 K), which is isostructural to the 122-type Fe-pnictide superconductor with the pnictogen atom being replaced with boron. We found that the Fermi level is located at a dip in the density of states (DOS) in contrast to Co-pnictide ferromagnets. This reduction in DOS together with the strong Co 3d-B 2p covalent bonding removes the ferromagnetic order and may cause the superconductivity. The energy bands near the Fermi level show higher three dimensionality and a weaker electron-correlation effect than those of Fe pnictides. The Fermi surface topology is considerably different from that of Fe pnictides, suggesting the difference in the superconducting mechanism between boride and pnictide superconductors., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We studied the electric and magnetic behavior near the phase boundary between antiferromagnetic (AF) and superconducting (SC) phases for a prototype of high-T_c pnictides LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} by using nuclear magnetic resonance, and found that paramagnetic-metal (PM) domains segregate from AF domains. PM domains grow in size with increasing electron doping level and are accompanied by the onset of superconductivity, and thus application of pressure or increasing the doping level causes superconductivity. The existence of PM domains cannot be explained by the existing paradigm that focuses only on the relationship between superconductivity and antiferromagnetism. Natural 12CaO$\cdot$7Al$_2$O$_3$ (C12A7) is a wide bandgap insulator, but conductivity can be realized by introducing oxygen deficiency. Currently, there are two competing models explaining conductivity in oxygen-deficient C12A7, one involving the electron transfer via a "cage conduction band" inside the nominal band gap, the other involving electron hopping along framework lattice sites. To help resolve this debate, we probe insulating and conducting C12A7 with X-ray emission, X-ray absorption, and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, which provide a full picture of both the valence and conduction band edges in these materials. These measurements suggest the existence of a narrow conduction band between the main conduction and valence bands common in both conducting and insulating C12A7 and support the theory that free electrons in oxygen-deficient C12A7 occupy the low-energy states of this narrow band. We report that nonmagnetic heavy-fermion (HF) iron oxypnictide CeFePO with two-dimensional XY-type anisotropy shows a metamagnetic behavior at the metamagnetic field H_M \simeq 4 T perpendicular to the c-axis and that a critical behavior is observed around H_M. Although the magnetic character is entirely different from that in other Ce-based HF metamagnets, H_M in these metamagnets is linearly proportional to the inverse of the effective mass, or to the temperature where the susceptibility shows a peak. This finding suggests that H_M is a magnetic field breaking the local Kondo singlet, and the critical behavior around H_M is driven by the Kondo breakdown accompanied by the Fermi-surface instability., Comment: 5pages, 6 figures published in Phys. We report systematic investigation of high pressure crystal structures and structural phase transition upto 46 GPa in CaFeAsF and 40 GPa in SrFeAsF at 40 K using powder synchrotron x-ray diffraction experiments and Rietveld analysis of the diffraction data. We find that CaFeAsF undergoes orthorhombic to monoclinic phase transition at Pc = 13.7 GPa while increasing pressure. SrFeAsF exhibits coexistence of orthorhombic and monoclinic phases over a large pressure range from 9 to 39 GPa. The coexistence of the two phases indicates that the transition is of first order in nature. Unlike in the 122 compounds (BaFe2As2 & CaFe2As2) we do not find any collapse tetragonal transition. The transition to a lower symmetry phase (orthorhombic to monoclinic) in 1111 compounds under pressure is in contrast with the transition to a high symmetry phase (orthorhombic to tetragonal) in 122 type compounds. On heating from 40 K at high pressure, CaFeAsF undergoes monoclinic to tetragonal phase transition around 25 GPa and 200 K. Further, it does not show any post-tetragonal phase transition and remains in the tetragonal phase upto 25 GPa at 300 K. The dPc/dT is found to be positive for the CaFeAsF & CaFe2As2, however the same was not found in case of BaFe2As2. We discuss observations of structural evolution in the context of superconductivity in these and other Fe-based compounds. It appears that the closeness of the Fe-As-Fe bond angle to its ideal tetrahedral value of 109.470 might be associated with occurrence of superconductivity at low temperature., Comment: 23 pages, 11 Figures

We have performed powder neutron diffraction on the new superconductor, CeNi$_{0.8}$Bi$_2$ with a superconducting transtion temperature $T_\textrm{c} \sim$ 4.2 K. The structural parameters of this compound at room temperature are determined by Rietveld analysis. Below about 5 K, the clear magnetic Bragg peaks with propagation vector $q$=(0 0 0) are observed. The observed intensities of magnetic Bragg peaks can be explained by the magnetic structure that the two Ce moments in the unit cell are antiparallel along c axis. The magnetic Bragg peaks are observed in the superconducting state, indicating the coexistence of the antiferromagnetic ordering and the superconductivity in this compound. The intensity of magnetic Bragg peak monotonously increases with decreasing temperature below $T_\textrm{N}$ and does not exhibit apparent anomaly at $T_\textrm{c}$, obviously different from cases of heavy fermion superconductors in which the magnetic ordering and the superconductivity coexist, for example, Cd-doped CeCoIn$_5$. These results suggest that the 4$f$ electron of the Ce atom is not coupled with the superconducting carrier, and the magnetic ordering is almost independent of the superconductivity in CeNi$_{0.8}$Bi$_2$., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We investigated the homogeneous coexistence of spin-density-wave (SDW) and superconducting (SC) states via 75As-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in CaFe(1-x)Co(x)AsF and found that the electronic and magnetic properties of this compound are intermediate between those of LaFeAsO(1-x)F(x) and Ba(Fe(1-x)Co(x))2As2. For 6% Co-doped samples, the paramagnetic spectral weight completely disappears in the crossover regime between the SDW and SC phases followed by the anomalous behavior of relaxation rate (1/T1), implying that the two phases are not segregated. The 59Co-NMR spectra show that spin moments are not commensurate but spatially modulated. These experimental results suggest that incommensurate SDW (IC-SDW) and SC states are compatible in this compound., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We report high pressure powder synchrotron x-ray diffraction studies on MFe2As2 (M=Ba, Ca) over a range of temperatures and pressures up to about 56 GPa using a membrane diamond anvil cell. A phase transition to a collapsed tetragonal phase is observed in both compounds upon compression. However, at 300 (33) K in the Ba-compound the transition occurs at 26 (29) GPa, which is a much higher pressure than 1.7 (0.3) GPa at 300 (40) K in the Ca-compound, due to its larger volume. It is important to note that the transition in both compounds occurs when they are compressed to almost the same value of the unit cell volume and attain similar ct/at ratios. We also show that the FeAs4 tetrahedra are much less compressible and more distorted in the collapsed tetragonal phase than their nearly regular shape in the ambient pressure phase. We investigated the complex conductivity spectrum of a Co-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$ epitaxial thin film in the THz region. In the normal state, the complex conductivity shows a Drude-type frequency dependence, while in the superconducting state, the frequency dependence of the complex conductivity changes to that of a typical superconducting materials. We estimated the magnetic penetration depth at absolute zero to be 710 nm and the superconducting gap energy to be 2.8 meV, which is considered to be the superconducting gap opened at the electron-type Fermi surface near the M point. We succeeded in obtaining the low-energy elementary excitation of a Fe-based superconductor using the electromagnetic method without invoking the Kramers-Kronig transformation., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. We report detailed measurements of temperature dependence and ab initio lattice dynamical calculations of the phonon density-of-states of two Sr based iron pnictide parent compounds; SrFe2As2 and SrFeAsF. Although both compounds undergo a magnetic as well as a tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural phase transitions, no drastic change of their phonon spectra is found in the temperature range from 2 to 300 K.. In both the systems the Fe-As stretching modes at 32 meV react to the temperature change and shift towards higher energies with decreasing temperature. Furthermore, we found that in the antiferromagnetic phase of SrFe2As2 at 180 K a peak at 25 meV, due to Fe vibrations, moves slightly to higher energies and become narrower on cooling from 300 K. However we did not find any evidence of softening of low energy phonon modes in both SrFe2As2 and SrFeAsF on decreasing the temperature from 300 K in their paramagnetic phase. This is contrary to our earlier observation of phonon softening in CaFe2As2, Ca0.6Na0.4Fe2As2 and Sr0.6K0.4Fe2As2. For the sake of comparison, the previously studied Ca- and Ba-cases are also presented and the role of the magnetic ordering on the calculated phonon spectra in these two families of pnictides is reported., Comment: Paper has been withdrawn by the author. The magnetic ordering and crystal structure of iron pnictide SrFeAsF was investigated by using neutron powder diffraction method. With decreasing temperature, the tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transition is found at 180 K, while the paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition set in at 133 K. Similar to the parent compound of other iron pnictide system, the striped Fe magnetism is confirmed in antiferromagnetic phase and the Fe moment of 0.58(6) uB aligned along long a axis. The thermal expansion of orthorhombic phase of SrFeAsF is also investigated. Based on the Grueneisen approximation and Debye approximation for internal energy, the volume of SrFeAsF can be well fitted with Debye temperature of 347(5) K. The experimental atomic displacement parameters for different crystallographic sites in SrFeAsF are analyzed with Debye model. The results suggested that the expansion of FeAs layers plays an important role in determining the thermal expansion coefficient., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

AC susceptibility measurements have been carried out on superconducting LaO1-xFxFeAs for x=0.07 and 0.14 under He-gas pressures to about 0.8 GPa. Not only do the measured values of dTc/dP differ substantially from those obtained in previous studies using other pressure media, but the Tc(P) dependences observed depend on the detailed pressure/temperature history of the sample. A sizeable sensitivity of Tc(P) to shear stresses provides a possible explanation.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements of an iron (Fe)-based superconductor LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_x (x = 0.08 and 0.14) were performed at ambient pressure and under pressure. The relaxation rate 1/T_1 for the overdoped samples (x = 0.14) shows T-linear behavior just above T_c, and pressure application enhances 1/T_1T similar to the behavior of T_c. This implies that 1/T_1T = constant originates from the Korringa relation, and an increase in the density of states at the Fermi energy D(E_F) leads to the enhancement of T_c. In the underdoped samples (x = 0.08), 1/T_1T measured at ambient pressure also shows T-independent behavior in a wide temperature range above T_c. However, it shows Curie-Weiss-like T dependence at 3.0 GPa accompanied by a small increase in T_c, suggesting that predominant antiferromagnetic fluctuation suppresses development of superconductivity or remarkable enhancement of T_c. The qualitatively different features between underdoped and overdoped samples are systematically explained by a band calculation with hole and electron pockets.

We report detailed measurements of composition as well as temperature dependence of the phonon density-of-states in a new series of FeAs compounds with composition CaFe1\_{1-x}Co\_{x}AsF (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12). The composition as well as temperature dependence of phonon spectra for CaFe\_{1-x}Co\_{x}AsF (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12) compounds have been measured using time of flight IN4C and IN6 spectrometers at ILL, France. The comparison of phonon spectra at 300 K in these compounds shows that acoustic phonon modes up to 12 meV harden in the doped compounds in comparison to the parent CaFeAsF. While intermediate energy phonon modes from 15 meV to 25 meV are also found to shift towards high energies only in the 12 % Co doped CaFeAsF compound. The experimental results for CaFe\_{1-x}Co\_{x}AsF (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12) are quite different from our previous phonon studies on parent and superconducting MFe2As2 (M=Ba, Ca, Sr) where low-energy acoustic phonon modes do not react with doping, while the phonon spectra in the intermediate range from 15 to 25 K are found to soften in these compounds. We argue that stronger spin phonon interaction play an important role for the emergence of superconductivity in these compounds. The lattice dynamics of CaFe\_{1-x}Co\_{x}AsF (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12) compounds is also investigated using the ab-initio as well as shell model phonon calculations. We show that the nature of the interaction between the Ca and the Fe-As layers in CaFeAsF compounds is quite different compared with our previous studies on CaFe2As2., Comment: 19 pages, 5 figures

We report the pressure and temperature dependence of the phonon density-of-states in superconducting Ca0.6Na0.4Fe2As2 (Tc=21 K) and the parent compound CaFe2As2, using inelastic neutron scattering. We observe no significant change in the phonon spectrum for Ca0.6Na0.4Fe2As2 at 295 K up to pressures of 5 kbar. The phonon spectrum for CaFe2As2 shows softening of the low-energy modes by about 1 meV when decreasing the temperature from 300 K to 180 K. There is no appreciable change in the phonon density of states across the structural and anti-ferromagnetic phase transition at 172 K. These results, combined with our earlier temperature dependent phonon density of states measurements for Ca0.6Na0.4Fe2As2, indicate that the softening of low-energy phonon modes in these compounds may be due to the interaction of phonons with electron or short-range spin fluctuations in the normal state of the superconducting compound as well as in the parent compound. The presence of macroscopic phase separation between the superconducting and magnetic phases in \cfcaf is demonstrated by muon spin rotation (muSR) measurements conducted across their phase boundaries (x=0.05-0.15). The magnetic phase tends to retain the high transition temperature (T_m > T_c), while Co-doping induces strong randomness. The volumetric fraction of superconducting phase is nearly proportional to the Co content $x$ with constant superfluid density. These observations suggest the formation of superconducting "islands" (or domains) associated with Co ions in the Fe$_2$As$_2$ layers, indicating a very short coherence length., Comment: 5 pages, 5 figures

A Neutron Powder Diffraction (NPD) experiment has been performed to investigate the structural phase transition and magnetic order in CaFe1-xCoxAsF superconductor compounds (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12). The parent compound CaFeAsF undergoes a tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transition at 134(3) K, while the magnetic order in form of a spin-density wave (SDW) sets in at 114(3) K. The antiferromagnetic structure of the parent compound has been determined with a unique propagation vector k = (1,0,1) and the Fe saturation moment of 0.49(5)uB aligned along the long a-axis. With increasing Co doping, the long range antiferromagnetic order has been observed to coexist with superconductivity in the orthorhombic phase of the underdoped CaFe0.94Co0.06AsF with a reduced Fe moment (0.15(5)uB). Magnetic order is completely suppressed in optimally doped CaFe0.88Co0.12AsF. We argue that the coexistence of SDW and superconductivity might be related to mesoscopic phase separation., Comment: 4pages, 4figures

The temperature and angular dependence of the upper critical field (Hc2) is reported for cobalt-doped SrFe2As2 epitaxial films between Tc and 0.5 K in pulsed magnetic fields up to 50 T. For H parallel c, Hc2 is close to a linear function of temperature, while in the perpendicular direction there is significant downward curvature that results in an Hc2 ratio (gamma = Hc2(perpendicular)/Hc2(parallel) that decreases nearly linearly with temperature, approaching gamma = 1 at low temperature with Hc2(0) = 47 T. We measure the complete upper-critical field phase diagram including angular dependence and model the data using a two band theory allowing us to determine the anisotropy of both bands, their relative diffusivities, and the relationship between BCS coupling constant matrix elements. We find an unusual relationship between the diffusivities of the two bands, with two anisotropic and opposite bands. This relationship is supported by the observation of a local maximum for Hc2(parallel) at low temperature.

75As-nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) on an iron-based superconductor LaFeAsO1-xFx (x=0.14) was performed under a pressure of 3GPa. Enhancement of superconducting transition temperature Tc was confirmed from the relaxation rate 1/T1; Tc goes up to 40K by applying pressure up to 3GPa. 1/T1T, which is temperature independent just above Tc and gives a measure of the density of states (DOS) at the Fermi energy, enhances by applying pressure. These facts suggest that the increase of the DOS leads to the enhancement of Tc. The local lattice structure in newly discovered LaFeAsO1-xFx superconductors is studied by extended x-ray absorption fine structure measurements. An anomalous upturn of the mean-square relative displacement of the Fe-As bond is detected below ~70 K as electron carriers are introduced,reflecting the occurrence of Fe-As bond local lattice fluctuation. Similar to that in cuprates, this lattice fluctuation exhibits an abrupt depression at the onset superconducting transition temperature. The results indicate that strong electron-lattice interaction is involved in the superconducting transition in oxypcnictide superconductors, putting a strict limitation on possible theoretical models., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures

Electrical resistivity under high pressure have been measured on nominally pure SrFe2As2 up to 14 GPa. The resistivity drop appeared with increasing pressure, and we clearly observed zero resistivity. The maximum of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) is 38 K. The value is corresponding to the one of optimally doping AFe2As2 (A=Sr, Ba) system with K+ ions at the A2+ site., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures

Electrical resistivity measurements under high pressures up to 29 GPa were performed for oxypnictide compound LaFeAsO. We found a pressure-induced superconductivity in LaFeAsO. The maximum value of Tc is 21 K at ~12 GPa. The pressure dependence of the Tc is similar to those of LaFeAsO1-xFx series reported previously., Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures, to be published in J. Electrical resistivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements under high pressure were performed on an iron-based superconductor LaFePO. A steep increase in superconducting transition temperature (Tc) of LaFePO with dTc/dP > 4 K/GPa to a maximum of 8.8 K for P = 0.8 GPa was observed. These results are similar to isocrystalline LaFeAsO1-xFx system reported previously. The electrical resistivity (Rxx) and Hall resistivity (Rxy) of LaFeAsO1-xFx have been measured over a wide fluorine doping range 0 =< x =< 0.14 using 60 T pulsed magnets. While the superconducting phase diagram (Tc, x) displays the classic dome-shaped structure, we find that the resistive upper critical field (Hc2) increases monotonically with decreasing fluorine concentration, with the largest Hc2 >= 75 T for x = 0.05. This is reminiscent of the composition dependence in high-Tc cuprates and might correlate with opening of a pseudo-gap in the underdoped region. Further, the temperature dependence of Hc2(T) for superconducting samples can be understood in terms of multi-band superconductivity. The lattice dynamics of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} (x=0, 0.1) and PrFeAsO_{1-y} (y~0.1) are investigated using inelastic x-ray scattering and ab-initio calculation. Measurements of powder samples provide an approximation to the phonon DOS, while dispersion is measured from a single crystal of PrFeAsO_{1-y}. A model that agrees reasonably well with all of the data at room temperature is built from results of ab-initio calculations by softening the strength of the Fe-As bond by 30%., Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures; some changes of the text and a revision of figure 2

We have measured element-specific Fe-phonon densities of states (Fe-PDOS) of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} (x = 0, 0.11) and La_{1-x}Ca_{x}FePO (x = 0.13) by using nuclear resonant inelastic scattering of synchrotron radiation. The Fe-PDOS of superconductor LaFeAsO_{0.89}F_{0.11} (Tc = 26 K) and that of non-superconductor LaFeAsO have similar structures to both below Tc (15 K) and above Tc (298 K) and, therefore, fluorine doping does not have notable effect on the Fe-PDOS. As for the superconductor La_{0.87}Ca_{0.13}FePO (Tc = 5.4K), the entire structure of Fe-PDOS resembles with that of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x}, but the energy of the highest peak is higher than that of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x}. These peaks are attributed to vibrational modes between Fe and pnicogen (As and P) and the temperature-dependent energy shifts are observed for LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x}. Observed Fe-PDOS of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x} agrees well with an previously calculated Fe-PDOS spectrum with a first-principles calculation and shows the structural resemblance with an calculated Eliashberg function #alpha^2F(x) giving small electron-phonon coupling. Therefore, our results indicate that phonons are not the main contributors to the Tc superconductivity of LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_{x}. From the experimental viewpoint, comparison of our observed Fe-PDOS and an experimentally obtained bosonic glue spectrum will be an important clue as to whether phonons are the main contributors to superconductivity in iron-pnictide superconductors.
