Background Gut-directed hypnosis (GDH) is a complimentary therapy for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), that can be learnt by patients to practice self-hypnosis. GDH in IBD has augmented remission and improved inflammation. GDH has a history of successful use for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). In IBD it may also improve IBS-like symptoms in remission and recovery from surgery. GDH is suitable for youth and adult IBD patients. In hypnosis, a relaxed state is inducted then suggestions to subconscious mind processes are made. In IBD, the mechanism of action of GDH is unknown but may influence the disease stress response. Aims Aims are the development of a GDH self-hypnosis protocol for IBD, with appropriate target symptoms. Patients first learn to practice with a clinician, then as complimentary psychotherapy for remission augmentation, IBS-like symptoms, and surgery recovery. Methods GDH is practiced first with a clinician, and then by patients as self-hypnosis (table 1). Patients receive psycho-education on GDH for IBD. Next, appropriate treatment goals are made, based on target symptoms. Relaxation techniques induce patient to a deeply relaxed state. Therapeutic suggestions specific to patient goals are given: verbal suggestions, visualizations, and post-hypnotic suggestions. Suggestions can focus on having a healthy digestive system, inflammation and symptoms reduction, and achievement and sustainment of remission. Patients emerge from hypnosis, are debriefed, and encouraged to practice ongoing self-hypnosis. Results In IBD, GDH self-hypnosis can be learnt from clinicians and practiced by patients as a complimentary therapy. Patients’ achievement and sustainment of remission, with clinical markers of inflammation can be monitored. Patients can monitor subjective improvement of IBS-like symptoms and post surgery, recovery progress can be monitored. Conclusions GDH has a history of use for IBS. In IBD, it has been shown to modulate remission, and may improve IBS-like symptoms, and in surgery recovery. The mechanism of action of GDH in IBD may influence the disease stress response. Clinicians trained in GDH are limited currently. Patients may learn GDH self-hypnosis as a complimentary psychotherapy. Funding Agencies None

A great number of computer vision publications have focused on distinguishing between human action recognition and classification rather than the intensity of actions performed. Indexing the intensity which determines the performance of human actions is a challenging task due to the uncertainty and information deficiency that exists in the video inputs. To remedy this uncertainty, in this paper we coupled fuzzy logic rules with the neural-based action recognition model to rate the intensity of a human action as intense or mild. In our approach, we used a Spatio-Temporal LSTM to generate the weights of the fuzzy-logic model, and then demonstrate through experiments that indexing of the action intensity is possible. We analyzed the integrated model by applying it to videos of human actions with different action intensities and were able to achieve an accuracy of 89.16% on our intensity indexing generated dataset. In movie productions, the Foley Artist is responsible for creating an overlay soundtrack that helps the movie come alive for the audience. This requires the artist to first identify the sounds that will enhance the experience for the listener thereby reinforcing the Directors's intention for a given scene. In this paper, we present AutoFoley, a fully-automated deep learning tool that can be used to synthesize a representative audio track for videos. AutoFoley can be used in the applications where there is either no corresponding audio file associated with the video or in cases where there is a need to identify critical scenarios and provide a synthesized, reinforced soundtrack. An important performance criterion of the synthesized soundtrack is to be time-synchronized with the input video, which provides for a realistic and believable portrayal of the synthesized sound. Unlike existing sound prediction and generation architectures, our algorithm is capable of precise recognition of actions as well as inter-frame relations in fast moving video clips by incorporating an interpolation technique and Temporal Relationship Networks (TRN). We employ a robust multi-scale Recurrent Neural Network (RNN) associated with a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) for a better understanding of the intricate input-to-output associations over time. To evaluate AutoFoley, we create and introduce a large scale audio-video dataset containing a variety of sounds frequently used as Foley effects in movies. Our experiments show that the synthesized sounds are realistically portrayed with accurate temporal synchronization of the associated visual inputs. Human qualitative testing of AutoFoley show over 73% of the test subjects considered the generated soundtrack as original, which is a noteworthy improvement in cross-modal research in sound synthesis., Comment: 14 pages, 14 figures

Background IBD patients have a heightened risk for mental health illness, but general psychotherapy has shown mixed results. This psychotherapy protocol specialized for IBD patients uses recommended mental health therapies to treat specific chronic mental health illness. Therapy focuses on practicing CBT, clinical hypnosis, and emotion regulation healthy coping skills to self-manage chronic mental health symptoms. Standard therapies for acute mental illness, e.g. anxiety, depression, and suicidality, should be used as appropriate. Aims Aims of psychotherapy in IBD include improvement of mental health, symptoms management, quality of life (QOL), and adherence to medical treatments. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) changes maladaptive coping behaviours and thinking. Clinical hypnosis improves somatic symptoms, e.g. chronic pain, nausea, and cramping. Emotion regulation improves ability to process stressful emotions, and has been shown to be affected by chronic diseases, including moderate to severe Crohn’s disease. Methods Patients learn to self-manage chronic mental health symptoms with healthy coping skills. CBT allows patients to identify maladaptive coping behaviours and thinking. Healthy coping behaviours and thinking patterns are chosen, supported, and adapted to. Clinical hypnosis uses relaxation techniques, e.g. progressive muscle relaxation, visualizations, and positive suggestions as a complimentary therapy for somatic symptoms. Emotion regulation develops tolerance and healthy processing of stressors. Results Therapy effectiveness is evaluated by improvements in patients’ mental health, symptoms management, QOL, and adherence to medical treatments. Mental health improvement, QOL, and emotion regulation are monitored by patient self-report, e.g. questionnaires. Maladaptive coping behaviours and thinking changed using CBT are individual to each patient. Somatic symptoms improved using clinical hypnosis are determined by monitoring or patient self-report. Adherence to medical treatments, as appropriate, is monitored. Conclusions This IBD psychotherapy protocol uses gut-directed CBT, clinical hypnosis, and emotion regulation therapies, designed to improve mental health, symptoms management, QOL, and adherence to medical treatments. Healthy coping skills treat maladaptive coping behaviours and thinking, somatic symptoms, and emotion dysregulation. Background: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) has well documented systemic and local immunosuppressive mechanisms to escape immune surveillance and grow. GBM tumor cells as well as the microglia within it have a high incidence of PD-L1 surface expression which makes it more susceptible to anti-PD-L1 antagonism and ADCC through avelumab therapy. Methods: This is a single center, phase 2, open label, add-on, single dose study of 156 weeks duration in patients receiving standard therapy for newly diagnosed GBM. In total 30 patients will be entered into the study within 3 weeks of finishing their last day of combined radiotherapy/temozolomide. The following are the results of the first interim analysis completed when the first eight patients completed 52 weeks or an end of study visit. Results: 24 patients have so far started therapy. There as been no unexpected treatment emergent adverse event (TEAE). Two patients transiently withheld therapy because of immune related TEAE’s and none permanently. The objective response rate at week 52 for the first eight patients was 50% with 2 (25%) having a complete response and 1 (12.5%) a partial response. Conclusions: These preliminary results suggest that the addition of avelumab to standard therapy in patients with GBM is safe. Efficacy trends look promising.

The growing diversity of energy sources and an emerging and clearly established set of national security threats to the grid make its safekeeping a national imperative. Nationalizing the transmission grid cures the capital planning paralysis that plagues the new technology and infrastructure investments required to keep pace with the increasing demand and the evolving threats to the electrical grid.

A novel linear-dendritic block copolymer has been synthesized and evaluated for targeted delivery. The use of the dendron as the micellar exterior block in this architecture allows the presentation of a relatively small quantity of ligands in clusters for enhanced targeting, thus maintaining a long circulation time of these “patchy” micelles. The polypeptide linear hydrophobic block drives formation of micelles that carry core-loaded drugs, and their unique design gives them extremely high stability in vivo. We have found that these systems lead to extended time periods of increased accumulation in the tumor (up to 5 days) compared with nontargeted vehicles. Introduction: With a Canadian aging population, the prevalence of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) among elderly is increasing and the age criterion of the Canadian CT head rule (CCHR) is challenged by many emergency physicians. We evaluated if increasing the age criterion of the CCHR would maintain its validity. Methods: We conducted an historical cohort study using the medical charts of all patients 65 years old or more who consulted at a Level One Trauma Centre emergency department (ED) for a mTBI between 2010 and 2014. The main outcome measures were clinically important brain injury (CIBI) on Computed Tomography (CT) and the presence of the CCHR criteria. The clinical and radiological data collection was standardized. Univariate analysis was performed to measure the predictive capacities of modified age cut-offs at 70 and 75 years old. Results: Out of the 104 confirmed mTBI in this study, 32 (30,8%) had CIBI on CT scan. Sensitivity and specificity [C.I. 95%] of the CCHR were 100% [89.1 - 100] and 0% [0.0 5.0] for an age criterion of 65 years old and above; 100% [89.1 - 100] and 4,2% [0.9 11.7] for a modified criterion of 70 years old; 100% [89.1 - 100] and 13,9% [6.9 24.1] for 75 years old. Furthermore, for an age criterion of 80 and 85 years old, sensitivity was respectively 90,6% [75.0 98.0] and 75,0% [56.6 88.5]. Conclusion: In our cohort, increasing the age criterion of the CCHR for minor head injury to 75 years old would benefit ED by further reducing CT scans without missing CIBI. A larger prospective study is indicated to confirm the proposed modification.

The urban world in which many of us live does not lend itself to the metric of Euclidean geometry. Assuming that the avenues are perpendicular to the streets in a city, the distance from “fifth and fifty-first” to “seventh and thirty-fourth” is not the familiar Euclidean distance found by applying the Pythagorean theorem. The distance must instead be measured in blocks from fifth to seventh avenues and then from fifty-first to thirty-fourth streets. This taxicab metric, one of several me tries used in mathematics (Eisenberg and Khabbaz 1992), is practical for many applications and helps students pursue interesting investigations while deepening their understanding of familiar topics.

Improved culture of Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L.) for the better production of fructose requires better performing cultivars. Analysis involving 37 cultivars originating from France or overseas showed that among the early cultivars studied, ‘Grando’ appear to be the richest with 193 mg/g fresh wt of dry matter (DM) and 508 mg/g DM of fructose (as fructan). For fructose production, among the late white cultivars analysed, ‘Kharkov’ gave the best performance with 179 mg/g fresh wt of DM, 531 mg/g DM of fructose, and 710 mg/g DM of total carbohydrates. The French cultivars ‘Miello’, ‘Dub’, and ‘Rico’ are considered in their group as the most productive with 549, 545, and 540 mg/g DM of fructose, respectively.

A new view of teaching is emerging from the work of the constructivists and mathematics education reform leaders. In particular, we examine here four aspects of teaching that must change: task selection, guidance of classroom discourse, setting the learning environment, and the analysis of teaching and learning. Several national curriculum projects are working to effect these changes and examples of their work are provided. This work has motivated individual teachers to similarly design investigations that engage students in the study of significant mathematics, and two examples are included. Assessment must also change and students must learn to become less dependent on “authority” for the correctness of answers. Finally, our present understanding of constructivism and its implications for teaching/learning must not be static; though that view now may be at the center, we must listen to those who are on the edges and expect to be changed again and again in the years ahead.

Mr. Hille had been student teaching for three weeks when I made an announced observation in his second-year-algebra class. His lesson on ellipses had been carefully planned, and he was ready with models, string, calculators, overhead transparencies, and a lesson plan. Somewhere at the beginning of his enthusiastic presentation, he slipped from equations of ellipses to hyperbolas, while naming and graphing them as ellipses! Suddenly be realized what he was doing and looked at me in horror, but he went on for a few more minutes, “keeping his cool” as he would explain later. He asked questions and assigned a few problems from a previous section. The period ended. To an observer with little or no mathematics background, Mr. Hille's lesson appeared to be excellent.

A dry matter (DM) assay along with a qualitative and quantitative carbohydrate study were conducted on two Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L.) cultivars—'Kharkov’ and ‘Violet de Rennes’. In addition to sucrose, glucose, and fructose, some inulin‐type glucofructosans were detected at all stages of development of the tubers. The carbohydrate content was found to average from 65 to 80% DM. The tubers lose a fraction of their carbohydrates in winter—27.6% for ‘Kharkov’ and 35.6% for ‘Violet de Rennes’.

A human child is at the most learning age of the most learning species that has yet evolved on this planet” (Skemp 1987, p. 101). So begins Skemp's essay titled “A New Model oflntelligence.” Skemp goes on to point out that the extent to which the learner's potential will be realized is largely dependent on the individual's teachers. In Skemp's view, teachlng is any kind of action that influences the learning process. This “learning process” is not directly observed but, warns Skemp (1987), “a person who intervenes without an adequate mental image of what is going on inside is as likely to do harm as good” (p. 101).

Simulation provides a low cost method of initial testing of control for robotic swarms. The expansion of robotic swarms to heterogeneous environments drives the need to model cooperative operation in those environments. The Autonomous Control Engineering center at The University of Texas at San Antonio is investigating methods of simulation techniques and simulation environments. This paper presents results from adapting simulation tools for diverse environments.

One stage in designing the control for underwater robot swarms is to confirm the control algorithms via simulation. To perform the simulation Microsoftpsilas Robotic Studiocopy was chosen. The problem with this simulator and others like it is that it is set up for land-based robots only. This paper explores one possible way to get around this limitation. This solution cannot only work for underwater vehicles but aerial vehicles as well.

The inclusive Kn, ¶, and {Mathematical expression} production has been studied in a {Mathematical expression} experiment performed in the Mirabelle bubble chamber at an incident beam momentum of 32.1 GeV/c. Total, topological and differential cross sections are presented and compared with those obtained at other energies. The invariant structure functions have been parametrised in the fragmentation region by a power law and are consistent with the expectations based on quark counting rules. © 1981 Springer-Verlag.

Heat treatment of sunflower oil resulted in the formation of linoleic geometrical and positional isomers. These isomers were isolated using a combination of column chromatography, urea fractionation, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on a C18 reverse phase column and silver nitrate thin layer chromatography (TLC). Each component was submitted to hydrazine reduction and the resulting monoenes to AgNO3-TLC. The resultingcis andtrans fractions were submitted to ozonolysis in BF3-MeOH in order to determine the position of the ethylenic bonds. The major isomers were thecis, trans andtrans, cis 18∶2 Δ9, 12, thetrans, trans 18∶2 Δ9, 12 and somecis, trans, trans, cis andtrans, trans 18∶2 conjugated dienes. Thecis, trans andtrans, cis conjugated dienes were the Δ9, 11, Δ10, 12, Δ11, 13 and Δ12, 14 while thetrans, trans isomers were the Δ9, 11, Δ10, 12 and Δ11, 13. These C18∶2 isomers also were detected in oils collected from restaurants and market vendors.

We present a systematic investigation of channel cross sections in K−p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The energy dependence of these cross sections is discussed. We also investigate a few non-diffractive two-body reactions. The total cross sections of the two reactions K−p→K∗−(890)p and K−p→K∗−(1420)p have a markedly different energy behaviour. There is clear evidence for the reaction K−p→K∗0(890) N0(1688); its differnttial cross section exhibits a sharp forward slope of 24 ± 3 GeV−2.

Results are presented on the total and differential cross sections for the production of π+, π−, γ,\(\bar K^0 \),K0,K+, andK− in theK−p interactions at 70 GeV/c. The energy dependence of the various production processes shows in paticular a strong rise of the γ cross section and an increase of the average transverse momentum of the charged pion in the fragmentation regions.

The inclusive production ofK *±(890), ρρ(770), ω0(780) andf 0(1,270) mesons is studied in $$\bar pp$$ experiment at 32GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber by the analysis of (K 0π±) and (π+π−) invariant mass distributions. The inclusive cross sections are σ(K *±)=2.45±0.30 mb, σ(ρ0)=8.8 ±0.9 mb, σ(ω+)≃6.2 mb, and σ(f 0)=2.2±0.7 mb. The C.M. longitudinal distribution of theK *±(890) is slightly shifted to the primary particles fragmentation regions; the ρ0 is produced more centrally. The studied mesons alone are responsible for 40% of final state poins. The production features of various resonances are compared with quark models predictions.

The inclusive π0 and γ production is studied in a\(\bar PP\) experiment at 32.1 GeV/c performed in the Mirabelle bubble chamber with a sensitivity of ∼2.7 events/μb. Total and topological π0 cross sections are presented. The π0 and γ longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions are obtained and compared with\(\bar PP\) data at 22.4 GeV/c andK ± P data at 32.1 GeV/c. The inclusive π0 distributions are also compared to those obtained for charged pions in the same experiment.

In a K−p experiment at 32 GeV/c with a sensitivity of 6 ev/≈b the inclusive reaction K−p → p + X was studied in the kinematical region x < −0.3. Most of the protons in this region were identified by ionization. Correcting for losses of the very slow as well as of the fast protons in this region we obtained σp(x < −0.3) = 5.9 ± 0.2 mb. The double invariant differential cross sections of protons were analysed in terms of the variables x, pT2, and M2/s, t, and the contributions from separate peripheral mechanisms were analysed. A triple-Regge analysis was performed on the inclusive proton d2σ/dtd(M2/s) distribution with |t| < 1.1 GeV2. The fit with an RRP term resulted in an effective trajectory for the exchanged reggeon lying somewhat lower than that for the leading meson trajectory. Inclusion in the fit of an additional ππp term showed that pion exchange is important in the triple-Regge region at small |t|.

Linseed and sunflower oils were heated at 275 C for 12 hr under nitrogen. The sunflower oil was also heated in a commercial fryer at 200 C for 48 hr using a 2-hr daily cycle. The cyclic fatty acid monomers (CFAM) formed during the heat treatment of the linseed oil were isolated by a combination of saponification, esterification, column chromatography on silicic acid and urea fractionation. The isolated CFAM fraction was 99% pure, the balance being some 12:2ω6. Another step was necessary to isolate the CFAM from heated sunflower oils. The urea adduct fractionation resulted in the isolation of a nonurea adduct fraction which contained a mixture of CFAM and 18:2ω6. These were further separated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) on a C18 reverse phase column. Each fraction was analyzed by gas liquid chromatography and hydrogenated to determine the content of the C18 straight chain fatty acids.

Longitudinal correlations between pions inclusively produced in the target and beam fragmentation regions are studied in aK−p bubble chamber experiment at 32 GeV/c with a sensitivity of about 6.7 ev/μb. It was found that the\({{\tilde x_2 = x_2 } \mathord{\left/ {\vphantom {{\tilde x_2 = x_2 } {(1 - \left| {x_1 } \right|)}}} \right. \kern-\nulldelimiterspace} {(1 - \left| {x_1 } \right|)}}\) distributions of charged pions with momentum fraction in the proton hemisphere with respect to a charged “trigger” pion with momentum fraction x1 do not show scaling, that those of the associated π1/π2 do not compare toK+p interactions and give indications for quark annihilation. The invariant two- and three pion longitudinal C.M. distributions show significant deviations from the naive quark recombination picture. Distinct long-range correlations observed between π−s from the proton fragmentation region and π+s from theK− fragmentation region could imply contributions from quark exchange or quark annihilation mechanisms inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c.

The inclusive cross section and the average multiplicity are evaluated for most of the charged (π±, p, K±) and neutral (γ, π0, K0, K0, Λ, Λ, n) particles produced in 32 GeV/c K−p interactions; corresponding results are obtained for each charged topology separately. New results are given for the total charged multiplicity cross sections. The average longitudinal momentum of neutrals is found to be roughly equal to that of charged particles. The π+ and π− multiplicity distributions are reconstructed and compared to the π0 and to the total charged multiplicity distributions.

Whole numbers are used to count sets, report measures, and order a set. You can report the sum and difference of two counts, report the product of twice a measure, and divide two whole numbers to determine how many subsets of a given size are contained in a larger set or find how many objects will be in each subset if you divide the given set into a specified number of parts.

K−p reactions have been studied at 13 different incident momenta between 1138 and 1434 MeV/c. This interval corresponds to a mass of the K−p system varying from 1858 to 1993 MeV. About 300 000 photographs were taken in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a separated K− beam at the CERN proton-synchrotron. A total of about 44 000 events were analyzed, from which partial and differential cross sections were determined. Polarizations were obtained for the two-body reactions where the decay of the Λ or Σ hyperon allowed their measurement. Data for the two-body channels are presented here as well as for the main quasi-two-body reactions.

Results of an epidemiology study of populations living near a freeway and in the high desert area of Southern California for levels of platinum, palladium and lead are presented. Three age groups (children, young adults, and mature adults) were sampled twice for blood, urine, hair, and feces. Air, water, and soil samples were collected in the areas of the residences of the two populations. The primary objective of this study was to obtain baseline levels of these metals prior to the introduction of the catalytic muffler. The samples were collected in September 1974.

Results are presented on the inclusive production of π± mesons and protons in $$\bar p$$ p interactions at an incident antiproton momentum of 32 GeV/c in the MIRABELLE bubble chamber, based on a sample of 55,000 inelastic events. The spectra of π+(π−) andp( $$\bar p$$ ) are separated in the whole kinematically admitted region of phase space by a statistical method. The semi-inclusive and inclusive cross sections and the main average characteristics of π andp production are calculated. The invariant differential cross sections are studied as functions of the Fevnman scaling variablex, the rapidity and the transverse momentum. Thex distribution of π± mesons in the proton fragmentation region does not show any significant contribution from quark exchange or annihilation processes. A possible contribution of hard quark scattering on mesons or baryons is observed for large transverse momenta.

The van Hiele model of the learning of geometry currently enjoys both popular and research interest. Hoffer (1981) provides an overview of the model and identifies problems that are appropriate for students at each of the five van Hiele levels, the first three of which will be considered in this paper.

An epidemiological survey was conducted in Houston, Texas on five trace metals in policemen, parking garage attendants, women living near freeways and three control groups of subjects. The controls were matched with the exposed groups for covariate information such as age, sex, smoking habits, ethnic background, socioeconomic status, hair color, and education. Each subject was sampled four times for blood, urine, hair, and feces, and these samples were analyzed for lead, cadmium, zinc, manganese, and copper. Lead and cadmium were correlated with airborne exposures but zinc, manganese and copper were not. The second part of this paper deals with a market study of platinum and palladium markets and a design of an epidemiology survey of individuals occupationally and nonoccupationally exposed to these two metals. The market survey shows that although the catalytic muffler will have a major impact on the market, it is predicted that producers can meet these demands.

The inclusive production of neutral kaons inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c is studied in final states with one, two and three strange particles (Kn or Λ). Inclusive and topological cross sections are obtained and their energy dependence discussed by comparison with lower energy data. The invariant differential cross sections of neutral kaons are studied as a function of Feynmanx, the c.m. rapidity and the transverse momentum, and a comparison is made with data at 14.3 GeV/c. Invariantx-distributions are obtained separately for “indirect” neutral kaons from\(\bar K*(890)\) decays and for “prompt” kaons. We also discuss the possibility of connecting quark structure functions with hadron fragmentation spectra at this c.m. energy\(\sqrt s \simeq 8 GeV\).

This report summarizes studies on the infection of Lymnaea glabra by Fasciola hepatica in connection with the following: 1) the number of miracidia for a single exposure; 2) the snail height (0,5 mm, 1 mm or 2 mm) at miracidial exposure. Snails with evolutive infection were only observed in 0,5- and 1-mm-high groups at day post-exposure. In 0,5-mm-high groups, the percentage of these infected snails showed a peak for 5 miracidia per snail. In 1-mm-high groups, there was no infected snails until 5 miracidia per snail; then the percentage of infected snails increased in connection with the number of miracidia used per snail. L. glabra is an accidental snail host for F. hepatica.

Values are given for the branching fractions of various decay modes of the hyperon resonance ∑(1660). The measurements were obtained in formation experiments of the type K−p→∑(1660) → KN, ∑π, Δπ, ∑ππ and Δππ.

The measurements have been done using about 20,000 reactions K−p→Σ±π± with K− momenta from 400 to 1200 MeV/c and give τ + = (0.803 ± 0.008) · 10 −10 sec. τ − = (1.472 ± 0.016) · 10 −10 sec and R = (Σ + → n π + ) [(Σ + → n π + ) + (Σ + → p π 0 )] = 0.488 ± 0.010 . The result for τ− is in serious disagreement with the generally accepted value.

The reactions K−p → K−p, K0n and K−p → Σ+π−, Σ0π0, Σ−π+ have been studied in the c.m. energy range 1530 – 1700 MeV; new experimental data are presented and results of an energy-dependent partial-wave analysis are discussed.

The total cross-sections for K − N collisions leading to Σππ final states are measured between 0.6 and 1.2 GeV/ c and the results are analysed in terms of the isospin of the Σππ and Σπ systems. An upper limit for the decay Σ (1660) → Λ (1405) π is given.

A test of the consistency between observed resonant amplitudes or decay rates for baryon resonances with SU(3) predictions has been made. Coupling constants describing the decays are determined and predictions are given for decays into stable baryons and mesons.

K − p reactions have been studied at 19 different momenta between 436 and793 MeV/ c . This interval corresponds to a mass of theK¯N system from 1535 to 1695 MeV. About 400 000 photographs were taken in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a separated K − beam at the CERN proton-synchrotron. A total of about 100 000 events were analysed, from which partial and differential cross sections were determined. Polarizations were obtained for the two-body reactions where the decay of the Λ or Σ hyperon allowed their measurement. Data for all the channels are presented here.

New Hampshire Grade Eight Statewide Testing Program results for 1964 and 1965 showed a noticeable drop in Arithmetic Computation scores. Studies in 1965 and 1967 showed 3 groups, designated modern, transitional, and traditional, by type of text used, significantly different in intellectual ability. In 1965, the modern group scored highest on a general ability measure, but lowest on Arithmetic Computation. In 1967 this was no longer true. In 1967, all scores were lower than the 1965 or 1963 scores. The study further compared achievement among the 3 groups at tenth grade on the Stanford High School Mathematics Test, Part A. The modern and transitional groups' scores suggest performance (transfer) in algebra and geometry is relatively greater for those students who have studied modern mathematics in earlier grades.

The reactions K−p → ΛπO and K−n → Λπ− in the centre-of-mass energy range from ≈1.6 to ≈1.9 GeV have been interpreted in terms of an energy-independent partial-wave analysis. Solutions are presented and the possible existence of new resonant states is discussed.

Data on the reactions K−p → Σπ are analyzed in terms of partial-wave amplitudes. Results are presented on resonance formation in the mass region 1.6 to 1.8 GeV.
