1. Single-Sideband Time-Modulated Phased Array With 2-bit Phased Shifters

Abstract

A novel single-sideband (SSB) time-modulated technique with 2-bit phase shifters is proposed. The timemodulated module is implemented by adding periodic phase modulation to 2-bit phase shifters, which is simpler without performance loss compared to existing SSB time-modulated method. During one modulation period, four phase states (0, {\pi}/2, {\pi}, 3{\pi}/2) of 2-bit phase shifters are switched in sequence. After the modulation, the SSB time modulation is realized and the main power is distributed to the first harmonic component. The feasibility of the proposed method is verified by experiments. The undesired harmonics are efficiently suppressed. Meanwhile, 80{\deg} beam scanning range are realized through the proposed module.

14. Analysis and Design of High-Efficiency Single-Sideband Time-Modulated Module

Abstract

The design of a high-efficiency single-sideband (SSB) time-modulated (TM) module is introduced, and the factors affecting the efficiency of the TM module, including harmonic efficiency, modulation utilization efficiency of radio frequency (RF) signal, and circuit efficiency, are discussed theoretically. To verify the theoretical analysis, a $C$ -band high-efficiency TM (HETM) module was designed, fabricated, and tested, and the calculated results are in good agreement with the measured results. The experimental results show that the +1st harmonic efficiency, the modulation utilization efficiency, and the circuit efficiency of the proposed HETM module are 81.0%, 98.5%, and 54.8%, respectively. The total efficiency is up to 43.7%, and the designed HETM module has the performance of a 6-bit phase shifter and attenuator, which is very suitable for the application of passive phased array antennas.

22. A Novel Phase Mode Antenna With Triport and Its Application in a 1-D Generalized Phased Array to 2-D Scanning

Abstract

A novel triport phase mode antenna is proposed for wide-angle and polarization scanning, along with a 1-D linear generalized phased array (LGPA) for 2-D space (xo z, yo z, and xoy planes) scanning and polarization scanning. To produce continuous beam scanning characteristics, the phase difference ( $\Delta \varphi $ ) between the feed ports can be adjusted from 0° to 180°, which can generate different operating states of the odd mode, even mode, and hybrid modes. It is worth noting that each feed port can work independently, and any two or all feed ports can be combined to produce new beams. When the linear array is expanded based on the phase mode antenna and combined with the improved generalized principle of pattern multiplication (GPPM), it can realize continuous wide-angle scanning, 2-D scanning, and polarization scanning. Simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the proposed phase mode antenna achieves continuous wide-angle and polarization scanning performances, and the proposed 1-D LGPA realizes wide-angle scanning, 2-D scanning, and polarization scanning. This illustrates that the introduction of triport provides greater freedom for 1-D linear array scanning and offers an effective solution for the miniaturization of phased arrays and the design of multidimensional spatial scanning.

Abstract

A compact rectangular monopole with an equal-width ground plane is presented. This novel structural configuration could significantly improve its radiation performance and decrease its size. The feeding structure composed of a trident-shaped strip and a tapered impedance transformer is presented and discussed. Its impedance bandwidth, defined by measured VSWR less than 2, is from 2.75 to 16.2 GHz with a ratio of about 5.9:1. Both numerical and experimental results show that the proposed monopole antenna has stably omni-directional H-plane radiation patterns with low cross-polarization level within its impedance bandwidth. This novel monopole antenna has ultrawide impedance bandwidth, very compact size (30 mm*8 mm), low fabrication lost, and omni-directional H-plane radiation patterns, which are suitable for various broadband applications. Abstract

Since 21st century, the test service for digital TV terrestrial broadcasting has been successively carried out in some Chinese big cities, and bus commuters can watch TV programs while traveling in the signal-covered regions. When the digital mobile TV coverage is planned, the level of radio noise in environments is of considerable concern to designers. In this paper the results of average noise power of a digital TV channel in a UHF band on public transportation courses are introduced. Not only the noise factors but also the K times variance deviation of the upper decile of noise factors under three typical communication environments has been obtained through the analysis of nonlinear regression of cumulative distribution functions on the test results. Through the trials of mobile reception of digital television, two coverage plans have been compared; The results show that the coverage effect for the model based on interference statistical distributions is higher than the one based on AWGN noise. Abstract

An investigation is described of the pulse preserving capabilities of printed circular disk monopole antennas with rectangular, curved, and hexagonal grounds in the scope of correlation factors. Detailed study on parameters is presented. Both numerical and experimental results show that a circular disk monopole with properly-designed curved or hexagonal grounds would have better pulse preserving performance than the identical monopole with rectangular ground. The improvement of the correlation factors in the x-y plane introduced by the curved and hexagonal grounds is about 6.4% and 8.1% on average, respectively. This optimization process won't bring any size or cost increase to the printed monopole antennas, and the improvement of pulse preserving capabilities is quite discernible, which appears to be a significant improvement over printed monopole antennas. Abstract

For a concentric array radial line slot antenna with a boresite beam, a rotating mode should be excited. A planar feeding circuit exciting a rotating mode in a parallel-plate waveguide is proposed in this paper. The structure consists of a coplanar waveguide, ring slot, and cavity, which is planar and suitable for integrating and minimizing even in a millimeter-wave band.
