Abstract

We prove the equivalence of two different types of capacities in abstract Wiener spaces. This yields a criterion for the $L^p$-uniqueness of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator and its integer powers defined on suitable algebras of functions vanishing in a neighborhood of a given closed set $\Sigma$ of zero Gaussian measure. To prove the equivalence we show the $W^{r,p}(B,\mu)$-boundedness of certain smooth nonlinear truncation operators acting on potentials of nonnegative functions. We also give connections to Gaussian Hausdorff measures. Roughly speaking, if $L^p$-uniqueness holds then the 'removed' set $\Sigma$ must have sufficiently large codimension, in the case of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator for instance at least $2p$.

Abstract

We consider the Laplacian and its fractional powers of order less than one on the complement $\mathbb{R}^d\setminus\Sigma$ of a given compact set $\Sigma\subset \mathbb{R}^d$ of zero Lebesgue measure. Depending on the size of $\Sigma$, the operator under consideration, equipped with the smooth compactly supported functions on $\mathbb{R}^d \setminus \Sigma$, may or may not be essentially self-ajoint. We survey well known descriptions for the critical size of $\Sigma$ in terms of capacities and Hausdorff measures. In addition, we collect some known results for certain two-parameter stochastic processes. What we finally want to point out is, that, although a priori essential self-adjointness is not a notion directly related to classical probability, it admits a characterization via Kakutani type theorems for such processes.

Abstract

The striped notothen Trematomus hansoni is an Antarctic fish species belonging to the family Nototheniidae (cod icefishes) that is distributed throughout the Southern Ocean. In this study, the complete mitochondrial genome of T. hansoni was sequenced using an Illumina MiSeq platform. The circular mitochondrial genome is 19,218 bp long and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 23 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes, and one control region. Notably, there are two trnG-UCC genes and the second gene, located between trnE-UUC and trnI-GAU, has no D-arm structure. The base composition is 56.18% of A + T and 43.82% of G + C. The phylogenetic analysis supports that T. hansoni is grouped into a single clade with T. bernacchii. This study will be a valuable resource for further research on the phylogeny and evolution of the genus Trematomus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Abstract Background In the Republic of Korea (ROK), six sibling species of the Anopheles sinensis complex are considered the vector species of malaria, but data on their susceptibilities to malaria and vector capacities have been controversial. The intensive use of insecticides has contributed to the rapid development and spread of insecticide resistance in the An. sinensis complex. Knockdown resistance (kdr) to pyrethroids and DDT in the An. sinensis complex is associated with a mutation in codon 1014 of the voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) gene. Because the degree of insecticide resistance varies among mosquito species and populations, the detection of kdr mutations among the six sibling species of the An. sinensis complex is a prerequisite for establishing effective long-term vector control strategies in the ROK Methods In order to investigate species-specific kdr mutations, An. sinensis complex specimens have been collected from 22 sites in the ROK. Because of the difficulties with species identifications that are based only on morphological characteristics, molecular identification methods have been conducted on every specimen. Part of the IIS6 domain of the VGSC was polymerase chain reaction-amplified and directly sequenced. Results The molecular analyses revealed that mutations existed at codon 1014 only in An. sinensis sensu stricto and no mutations were found in the other five Anopheles species. In An. sinensis s.s., one wild type (TTG L1014) and three mutant types (TTT L1014F, TTC L1014F, and TGT L1014C) of kdr alleles were detected. The TTC L1014F mutation was observed for the first time in this species. Conclusions The fact that the highly polymorphic kdr gene is only observed in An. sinensis s.s., out of the six Anopheles species and their geographical distribution suggest the need for future studies of insecticide resistance monitoring and investigations of species-specific resistance mechanisms in order to build successful malaria vector control programmes in the ROK.

Abstract

Our previous study we isolated novel bacterial stain, Epidermidibacterium keratini, called EPI-7Tfrom skin samples. Repeated column separation yielded one new pyrimidine compound, 1,1′-biuracil, from EPI-7Tculture solutions grown in R2A medium. Its chemical structure was determined based on spectroscopic data, IR, FAB/MS, and NMR. And 1,1′-biuracil and EPI-7Tculture solutions showed regulating effects of anti-aging associated mRNA expressions in UV-irradiated fibroblasts without toxicity in Hs68 cells. These results demonstrates the cosmetic potential of 1,1′-biuracil and EPI-7Tas anti-aging agents.

44. The complete mitochondrial genome of the Antarctic fairy shrimp Branchinectagaini Daday, 1910 (Branchiopoda, Anostraca, Branchinectidae).

Abstract

The complete mitochondrial genome of Antarctic fairy shrimp Branchinectagaini Daday, 1910 was sequenced, assembled and annotated using next-generation sequencing technology. The mitogenome of B.gaini is circular at 15,536 bp in length, consisting of 13 protein-coding genes, 23 tRNAs, two rRNAs and two major non-coding regions. In particular, there are two tRNA Gly genes and one non-coding region between these two tRNA Gly genes. A phylogenetic tree was constructed using concatenated amino acid sequences of 13 protein-coding genes. It reveals that B.gaini is clustered with the Anostraca group within the Branchiopoda clade. This study helps us understand the evolution of Anostraca., (Euna Jo, Jin-Hyoung Kim, Young Wook Ko, Sanghee Kim, Seunghyun Kang.)
