7. Improved Analytical Model for the Magnetic Drag of a Dual-Conductor Plate Parallel Electric Suspension and Guiding Mechanism

Abstract

The Maglev launch assist system (MLAS) has been adopted as part of a reusable launch vehicle system to lower launch costs. In this article, a dual-conductor plate parallel electric suspension and guiding mechanism (DPESGM) serving the suspension and guidance function of the MLAS is proposed. First, the MLAS and the structure of the DPESGM are introduced. Then, a DPESGM magnetic drag analysis model is established based on the multilayer theory for the fast calculation of the magnetic drag. However, its accuracy is poor at high speed. To solve this problem, an improved analytical model suitable for the full speed range is developed, which takes the equivalent conductivity replacement approach to consider the skin effect. Finally, the improved analysis model is verified by the finite element method (FEM) and prototype experiments. The results show that the improved analytical model is highly accurate in the evaluation of the DPESGM magnetic drag from low speed to high speed. As the improved analytical model takes less computational time than 3D FEM, it is an efficient tool for the DPESGM magnetic drag calculations to complete the preliminary design of the propulsion and braking systems.

Abstract

With the increasing requirements for miniaturization and high braking torque, it is now necessary to analyze the thermal characteristics to the same extent as the electromagnetic design for eddy current brakes. However, due to the lack of suitable convection heat transfer correlations for axial flux eddy current brakes, it brings difficulties to designers. To solve this problem, the correlations for an axial flux permanent magnet (PM) eddy current brake are derived using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and the least square method. The proposed correlations considered the changes in design parameters and temperatures of the eddy current brake, and the accuracy is verified by the CFD. Subsequently, convective heat transfer coefficients calculated through the correlations are assigned to a thermal network model of the eddy current brake, and the thermal network model is verified by experimental tests. The results show that the thermal network model can accurately predict temperatures of the eddy current brake. Since the time required to calculate convective heat transfer coefficients through the correlations is significantly less than that required through CFD, and the variation of the geometrical parameters and temperatures can be considered, these correlations are very suitable for use in the optimization process.

Abstract

In recent years, the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) has garnered significant attention due to its high power density and efficiency in applications such as electric vehicles, aviation, and other domains. This paper proposes a stator field control permanent magnet synchronous starter–generator (SFC-PMSSG) system. The starter–generator system comprises the SFC-PMSSG and a field controller (FC). A mathematical model of the SFC-PMSSG is established. Finite element analysis (FEA) is employed to obtain the electromagnetic parameters of the SFC-PMSSG, and the characteristics of the SFC-PMSSG are analyzed. A circuit simulation model of the FC is established to assess the control effect and the loss of the FC. A co-analysis of the system is conducted, and the results demonstrate that the SFC-PMSSG system can maintain output voltage stability as load and speed conditions vary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Magnetic levitation vibration isolators have attracted more and more attention in the field of high-precision measuring and machining equipment. In this paper, we describe a tubular horizontal-gap passive magnetic levitation vibration isolator. Four typical topologies of the tubular horizontal-gap passive magnetic levitation vibration isolator are proposed. The analytical expression of magnetic force is derived. The relationship between levitation force, force density, force ripple and major structural parameters are analysed by finite element method, which is conductive to the design and optimization of the tubular horizontal-gap passive magnetic levitation vibration isolator. The force characteristics of different topologies of the tubular horizontal-gap passive magnetic levitation vibration isolator are compared and evaluated from the aspect of force density, force ripple and manufacturability. In comparison with conventional passive magnetic levitation vibration isolators, the proposed tubular horizontal-gap passive magnetic levitation vibration isolator shows advantage in higher force density.

27. A Reverse-Salient Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Electric Vehicles Considering Operating Conditions

Abstract

Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) provide many attractive electromagnetic performances such as high torque density, high efficiency and simple structure, which make them more competitive in electric vehicles (EVs). However, designing a PMSM with a wide constant-power speed range and high power factor at high speeds is still full of challenges and requires further effort. In this paper, the performance of vehicle motors considering their operating conditions is analyzed. The design rules of the reverse-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor (RSPMSM) are summarized, and an RSPMSM is proposed. The principle of the RSPMSM with high torque especially in the flux-weakening states is studied by analyzing the variable flux leakage and variable saliency ratio in detail. The electromagnetic performance of the proposed RSPMSM is investigated using the finite element method (FEM), and its prototype is manufactured and tested. The experimental results show that the constant-power speed range is 5.5:1, and the power factor is close to 1 at high speed. Thus, the RSPMSM proposed in this paper is a favorable candidate for EVs.

Abstract

One electromagnetic launcher structure is proposed based on the principle of a permanent-magnet synchronous motor. Without additional levitation structures adopted, the magnetic levitation of the mover is realized by the current vector control, i.e., the stator excitation currents are controlled to generate two force components in the d-q coordinate system; the q-axis component is the propulsive or attractive force for the launching, while the d-axis component is used to levitate the mover at one stable position. The structure, design, and control of the proposed launcher are discussed based on the analysis. Abstract

In this paper, the principle of induction motor for driving hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is analyzed when running in state of generator. Based on the induction motor's equivalent circuit, it is concluded both the slip range when feeding back to storage battery and the optimum slip at peak generating efficiency. The generator can operate at peak efficiency in terms of the optimum slip controlling excitation current and frequency of induction motor. An optimum slip vector control system of induction motor for driving HEV is designed. The experimental results are satisfactory. Analyzing and testing in this paper will provide theoretic and experimental support for optimum control of HEV.
