1. Advanced Systemic Treatments in Patients with Moderate-to-Severe Atopic Dermatitis: Key Learnings from Physicians Practicing in Nine Asian Countries and Territories

Abstract

Abstract Introduction Rapid progress made in the management of atopic dermatitis (AD) in recent years and the differences in patient journey between Asian and non-Asian populations call for a review of current atopic dermatitis landscape in Asia. Methods A roundtable meeting with nine regional dermatological experts was held in June 2023 to discuss the optimal management approaches for moderate-to-severe AD, focusing on the use of advanced therapies. Results Disease burden on patients’ quality of life, treatment adherence, and financial constraints were identified as major concerns when managing patients with moderate-to-severe AD in parts of Asia. It was agreed that the Hanifin and Rajka’s criteria or the UK Working Party’s Diagnostic Criteria for Atopic Dermatitis can be used to guide the clinical diagnosis of AD. Meanwhile, patient-reported outcome scales including the Dermatology Life Quality Index and Atopic Dermatitis Control Tool can be used alongside depression monitoring scales to monitor treatment outcomes in patients with AD, allowing a better understanding for individualized treatment. When managing moderate-to-severe AD, phototherapy should be attempted after failure with topical treatments, followed by conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs and, subsequently, biologics or Janus kinase inhibitors. Systemic corticosteroids can be used as short-term therapy for acute flares. Although these advanced treatments are known to be effective, physicians have to take into consideration safety concerns and limitations when prescribing these treatments. Conclusions Treatments in AD have evolved and its management varies country by country. Unique challenges across Asian countries necessitate a different management approach in Asian patients with AD.

Abstract

The essential oil from the leaves of the Amentotaxus yunnanensis collected in Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang province was obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger apparatus and the yield of the essential oil was 0.01% from air-dry material. By using GC/MS analysis 50 constituents were identified, accounting for 88.96% of the essential oil. The main constituents were α-pinene (21.91%), kaur-16-ene (13.03%), α-calacorene (9.42%), δ-cadinene (6.23%) and β-caryophyllene (4.9%). This is the first study on the chemical constituents of essential oils from the leaves of Amentotaxus yunnanensis in Vietnam. Abstract

The chemical composition of the essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the twigs and leaves of Magnolia macclurei collected in Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang Province, Vietnam was analyzed using GC/MS. A total of 38 compounds were detected in essential oil, accounting for 94.49% of the oil, in which 37 compounds were identified accounting for 93.33%. cis-β-Elemene (14,30%), bicyclogermacrene (18,57%), and 10-epi-ᵧ-eudesmol (16,86%) were the main components of essential oil. The minor components present with rather high amount were: Germacrene D (2,12%), guaiol (8,52%), hinesol (2,34%), valerianol (6,76%), and bulnesol (2,93%). Antibiotic activity of the essential oil sample was tested against a Gram positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram negative bacteria Escherichia coli, and a yeast Candida albicans using an agar disk diffusion method. All three microorganisms tested are resistant to the oil from twigs and leaves of M. macclurei. That is exhibited through the inhibitory zone diameters ranging from 4 to 12 mm.

Abstract

Conifers are well represented in Vietnam where a new pine species has been recently discovered in Son La province: Pinus cernua, synonym P. armandii ssp. xuannhaensis. The compositions of needle, cone, and branch oils have been investigated by gas chromatography (retention index), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance. Myrcene (47.0%) was the main component of needle oil, followed by β-pinene (28.4%) and α-pinene (12.5%). Branch oil also contained myrcene (32.8%), α-pinene (17.9%), β-pinene (9.8%), and a high content of limonene (20.0%). Finally, cone oil displayed α-pinene (44.1%) beside myrcene (11.5%), β-pinene (8.1%), and limonene (5.8%).

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to construct a conceptual model with related instruments that affect customer satisfaction in using online banking in Ho Chi Minh City and Southern Vietnam. An important task of this work is the comparison of customer satisfaction in using online banking between customers of Vietnamese local banks and customers of foreign banks. Further discussions of the relationship among online service quality, perceived value, e-trust, relationship quality, customer satisfaction and customer loyalty are included. The results show that Vietnamese people are ethnocentric because there are 74% among 309 respondents currently using personal banking account of a Vietnam local bank. Exploratory analysis and regression analysis are made using SPSS for the observation of relationships between proposed factors. Respondents involved in the survey (quantitative method) are volunteers selected randomly while making sure that all of them are currently having personal banking accounts and have standard knowledge of using online banking. There are altogether 12 hypotheses in the proposed research model. The main findings of this work are: (1) Service quality positively influences perceived value; (2) Service quality positively influences e-trust; (3) Service quality positively influences customer satisfaction; (4) Perceived value positively influences e-trust; (5) E-trust positively influences customer satisfaction; (6) Perceived value positively influences loyalty; (7) Customer satisfaction positively loyalty; (8) Relationship positively influences e-trust; (9) Relationship quality positively influences customer satisfaction. Notice that the findings are especially for Vietnam online banking sector at Ho Chi Minh City.

Abstract

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) are attractive materials to generate multifunctional catalysts for the electrocatalytic reduction of CO 2 to hydrocarbons. Here we report the synthesis of Cu and Zn modified Al-fumarate (Al-fum) MOFs, in which Zn promotes the selective reduction of CO 2 to CO and Cu promotes CO reduction to oxygenates and hydrocarbons in an electrocatalytic cascade. Cu and Zn nanoparticles (NPs) were introduced to the Al-fum MOF by a double solvent method to promote in-pore metal deposition, and the resulting reduced Cu-Zn@Al-fum drop-cast on a hydrophobic gas diffusion electrode for electrochemical study. Cu-Zn@Al-fum is active for CO 2 electroreduction, with the Cu and Zn loading influencing the product yields. The highest faradaic efficiency (FE) of 62% is achieved at -1.0 V vs. RHE for the conversion of CO 2 into CO, HCOOH, CH 4 , C 2 H 4 and C 2 H 5 OH, with a FE of 28% to CH 4 , C 2 H 4 and C 2 H 5 OH at pH 6.8. Al-fum MOF is a chemically robust matrix to disperse Cu and Zn NPs, improving electrocatalyst lifetime during CO 2 reduction by minimizing transition metal aggregation during electrode operation., Competing Interests: There are no conflicts of interest to declare., (This journal is © The Royal Society of Chemistry.)
