ObjectiveTo analyze and assess the pollution levels of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and chromium (Cr) in rural soils of Wanzhou District, Chongqing Municipality, and to provide data support for proposing relevant measures and suggestions.MethodsBased on the soil monitoring data from 2017 to 2021, the ecological risk assessment was conducted by applying the Soil Pollution Risk Control Standard for Agricultural Land of Soil Environmental Quality (for trial implementation) (GB 15168‒2018), the pollution index method and the potential ecological risk method.ResultsA total of 100 soil samples were collected, with pH values ranged from 3.50 to 8.30, and a mean value of 6.10. The mean values of Pb, Cd, and Cr in the soil were 25.2 mg·kg-1, 0.310 mg·kg-1, and 68.6 mg·kg-1, respectively. Except for Cr, the mean values of other elements exceeded the soil background values. Cd level had the largest coefficient of variation and uneven spatial distribution, with an overall exceedance rate of 30.0%. Pollution levels of Pb and Cr were generally at the alert level, while Cd was generally at a light pollution level. The proportion of Cd pollution levels was higher than that of Pb and Cr, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=15.015, P=0.001). The Nemerow comprehensive pollution index in different townships ranged from 0.70 to 2.07, with a median value of 1.10, and was generally at a light pollution level. The potential ecological hazard risk of Cd was relatively high, and was generally at a mild level of hazard. The highest contribution rate in the comprehensive potential ecological hazard index was Cd, accounting for 84.1%.ConclusionThere is a certain degree of Cd pollution and mild ecological risk in rural soils of Wanzhou District. Monitoring and management of Cd pollution in rural soils of Wanzhou District, Chongqing Municipality, should be strengthened.

Abstract Friction as a fundamental physical phenomenon dominates nature and human civilization, among which the achievement of molecular rolling lubrication is desired to bring another breakthrough, like the macroscale design of wheel. Herein, an edge self-curling nanodeformation phenomenon of graphite nanosheets (GNSs) at cryogenic temperature is found, which is then used to promote the formation of graphite nanorollers in friction process towards molecular rolling lubrication. The observation of parallel nanorollers at the friction interface give the experimental evidence for the occurrence of molecular rolling lubrication, and the graphite exhibits abnormal lubrication performance in vacuum with ultra-low friction and wear at macroscale. The molecular rolling lubrication mechanism is elucidated from the electronic interaction perspective. Experiments and theoretical simulations indicate that the driving force of the self-curling is the uneven atomic shrinkage induced stress, and then the shear force promotes the intact nanoroller formation, while the constraint of atomic vibration decreases the dissipation of driving stress and favors the nanoroller formation therein. It will open up a new pathway for controlling friction at microscale and nanostructural manipulation.

Enhanced understanding of flow resistance in open channels with emergent vegetation is essential for flood management and river ecosystem restoration. The presence of vegetation can significantly alter bed resistance, leading to a challenge in accurately predicting flow discharge, water levels, sediment transport, and bed deformation. Previous studies on vegetated flows have focused on vegetation resistance, on which the impact of vegetation has been ignored or poorly estimated. This study proposes a new analytical model, built upon the momentum conservation law, to predict flow resistance to vegetated zones in a plain bed without bed forms, explicitly quantifying bed resistance and vegetation resistance in a corollary manner. The proposed model is benchmarked against five typical sets of laboratory experiments. It is demonstrated that the present model using a modified logarithmic velocity distribution performs best, whereas that assuming a uniform velocity profile considerably overestimates the vegetation resistance and neglects the effect of vegetation on bed resistance. The ratio of bed resistance to the total resistance is shown to range between 5% and 40%, and it decreases with increasing vegetation density and decreases with water depth. Therefore, bed resistance cannot be ignored when modelling shallow water flow with sparsely distributed vegetation. It is also revealed that vegetation arrangements significantly affect flow resistance, and therefore a model incorporating the effect of vegetation arrangement performs better. Overall, the present model facilitates a viable and promising tool for quantifying flow resistance in emergent vegetated channels.

Abstract Background The Enoyl-CoA hydratase/isomerase family plays a crucial role in the metabolism of tumors, being crucial for maintaining the energy balance and biosynthetic needs of cancer cells. However, the enzymes within this family that are pivotal in gastric cancer (GC) remain unclear. Methods We employed bioinformatics techniques to identify key Enoyl-CoA hydratase/isomerase in GC. The expression of ECHDC2 and its clinical significance were validated through tissue microarray analysis. The role of ECHDC2 in GC was further assessed using colony formation assays, CCK8 assay, EDU assay, Glucose and lactic acid assay, and subcutaneous tumor experiments in nude mice. The mechanism of action of ECHDC2 was validated through Western blotting, Co-immunoprecipitation, and immunofluorescence experiments. Results Our analysis of multiple datasets indicates that low expression of ECHDC2 in GC is significantly associated with poor prognosis. Overexpression of ECHDC2 notably inhibits aerobic glycolysis and proliferation of GC cells both in vivo and in vitro. Further experiments revealed that overexpression of ECHDC2 suppresses the P38 MAPK pathway by inhibiting the protein level of MCCC2, thereby restraining glycolysis and proliferation in GC cells. Ultimately, it was discovered that ECHDC2 promotes the ubiquitination and subsequent degradation of MCCC2 protein by binding with NEDD4. Conclusions These findings underscore the pivotal role of the ECHDC2 in regulating aerobic glycolysis and proliferation in GC cells, suggesting ECHDC2 as a potential therapeutic target in GC.

IntroductionThe bar-headed goose is a typical high-altitude bird that primarily inhabits alpine lakes and wetlands in Central Asia, with a remarkable ability to adapt to high elevations. Previous studies have shown that they can be infected with parasites such as Cryptosporidium spp. At present, there were few reports on its infection with the virus.MethodsIn this study, we utilized viral metagenomics to conduct a detailed analysis of the viral components in the fecal samples of bar-headed geese (Anser indicus) from the Tibet region of China.ResultsMultiple novel viruses were identified including four novel astroviruses, four novel caliciviruses, ten novel circoviruses, and nineteen novel parvoviruses. Among them, four astroviruses shared the highest amino acid sequence identities of 63.45–99.47% with different avastrovirus strains. Four caliciviruses and ten circoviruses were identified as unclassified caliciviruses and unclassified circoviruses, separately. Nineteen parvoviruses clustering into four groups maybe four different novel species of the genus Chaphamaparvovirus.ConclusionThese newly discovered viruses have potential implications for the health of avian species, particularly bar-headed geese. This study not only helps us understand the health status of bar-headed geese, but also offers crucial genomic information for future disease prevention and treatment strategies.

The viral metagenomics approach is an effective technique for investigating and analysing both existing and emerging viruses in humans and diverse animal samples. The ruddy shelduck, a nationally protected secondary key species of wild animals, has become the predominant species among overwintering waterbirds in Qinghai Lake. Viruses carried by ruddy shelducks can potentially infect humans or other animals; however, limited research on the faecal virome of ruddy shelducks is currently available. In the present study, faecal samples of ruddy shelducks collected from Saga County, Shigatse City, Tibet, China, were subjected to viral metagenomic analysis. The predominant viral families identified in ruddy shelduck samples were Picornaviridae, Parvoviridae, Microviridae, Vilyaviridae, Astroviridae, and Caliciviridae. Among these, two picornavirus genomes have been identified as new strains of the genus Megrivirus in the family Parvoviridae. In addition, viruses that infect parasites and bacteria have been identified and characterised. The present study enhances our comprehension of the composition of the viral community in ruddy shelducks faeces and highlights the dynamic nature of viral evolution and the significance of continuous monitoring to assess potential risks to wildlife and public health.

The Yellow River Basin serves as a vital ecological shield for China, and enhancing the urban ecological efficiency (UEE) is essential for the region’s ecological civilization and high-quality development. This research employs the slacks-based measure-data envelopment analysis (SBM-DEA), which incorporates undesirable outputs, and the Malmquist index to measure the UEE of 65 cities in the Yellow River basin from 2008 to 2017, described its spatio-temporal evolution characteristics, and utilizes its influencing factors using the Bootstrap truncated regression model. The main findings are as follows. ① The UEE in the Yellow River Basin has seen a steady, albeit low, increase from 2008 to 2017, with notable disparities existed in the upper, middle and lower reaches. Low pure technical efficiency is the main factor limiting the improvement of UEE in the Yellow River Basin. ② Cities with higher ecological efficiency in the Yellow River Basin generally exhibit a spatial distribution pattern of “lower reaches > middle reaches > upper reaches,” and it shows that cities with growing UEE are continuously shifting to the middle and lower reaches. ③ Environmental regulation, scientific and educational investment, economic scale, and greening level significantly promote the improvement of UEE in the Yellow River Basin, but population density and industrial structure lead to a decline in UEE. However, this result is heterogeneous between the upper, middle, and lower reaches, such as environmental regulation hindering the growth of UEE in the upper reaches, scientific and educational investment hindering the improvement of UEE in the downstream areas, and industrial structure significantly enhancing UEE in the midstream areas. These findings offer valuable insights for policymakers aiming to address ecological challenges and promote sustainable development within the Yellow River Basin, highlighting the need for targeted strategies that consider regional differences and the unique characteristics of each reach.

The current deep convolutional neural network models applied to coal-rock image recognition have problems such as large volume and cumbersome calculation process. It is difficult to meet real-time detection requirements, and it has poor adaptability to complex environments such as low lighting and high dust. In order to solve the above problems, a coal-rock image recognition method integrating drilling geological information is proposed. Firstly, the improved spectral residual saliency detection (ISRSD) algorithm is used to enhance the quality of coal-rock images, effectively reducing the adverse effects of complex environments on the features of coal-rock images. Secondly, the method uses the attentional VGG (AVGG) deep convolutional neural network model. The AVGG performs pruning based on VGG, adds convolutional block attention module (CBAM), and introduces adaptive learning rate adjustment strategy to efficiently extract coal-rock image features. Finally, the Bayesian model is used to integrate the features of coal-rock images with the geological information obtained from the borehole geological column chart, in order to improve the accuracy and robustness of coal-rock classification. The experimental results show that the image enhanced by the ISRSD algorithm has more prominent targets, lower color distortion, and relatively complete preservation of image features such as edges and textures. The accuracy of the AVGG model is comparable to that of the VGG model, but the average inference time, parameter count, and model size are only 15.61%, 33.44%, and 33.40% of the VGG model, respectively. Compared with using only the AVGG model to recognize coal-rock images, using the Bayesian model to fuse drilling geological information improves accuracy by 1.85%, reaching 97.31%.

This article presents a case study of a patient who had Cronkhite-Canada syndrome in combination with an asymptomatic novel coronavirus infection. The patient exhibited clinical symptoms of loss of appetite, hair and nail loss, and skin pigmentation. Digestive endoscopy revealed widespread and varying-sized polypoid changes in the mucosa of the stomach, duodenum, and colon. During the course of the illness, the patient tested positive for novel coronavirus nucleic acid. Treatment with moderate doses of prednisone resulted in the patient's hair regrowth and decreased skin hypopigmentation. The article provides a summary of the patient's diagnosis and treatment and a review of relevant literature, with the aim of enhancing clinicians' understanding of the disease.

Amorphous alloy is a popular choice for wastewater treatment because of its high active sites and high catalytic performance. It is different from the previous situation that the degradation performance of amorphous materials decreases first and then increases after crystallization. The degradation efficiency of Direct Yellow GR dye (DYGR) by Electro-Fenton (E-F) is gradually increases as the amorphous content of Fe41Co7Cr15Mo14C15B6Y2 amorphous alloy powder (MGs) is reduced in this work. The in-situ precipitation of (Fe, Cr)23(C, B)6 and Fe7C3 nanocrystals was discovered to decrease the electron work function (EWF) of the alloy powder, thus decreasing the amount of work needed to escape electrons and enhancing the electrocatalytic performance of the material. At the same time, the precipitation of (Fe, Cr)23(C, B)6 nanocrystals changed the chemical composition of the surface of MGs. After annealing, the Fe2+ concentration was higher than before regression, and the chemical potential energy between Fe2+ and Fe3+ was greater, thus facilitating the formation of ∙OH. This research offers novel perspectives on the utilization of nanocrystals in the management of amorphous alloy wastewater.

Abstract The development of highly efficient active integrated photonic circuits is crucial for advancing information and computing science. Lead halide perovskite semiconductors, with their exceptional optoelectronic properties, offer a promising platform for such devices. In this study, active micro multifunctional photonic devices were fabricated on monocrystalline CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films using a top-down etching technique with focused ion beams. The etched microwire exhibited a high-quality micro laser that could serve as a light source for integrated devices, facilitating angle-dependent effective propagation between coupled perovskite-microwire waveguides. Employing this strategy, multiple perovskite-based active integrated photonic devices were realized for the first time. These devices included a micro beam splitter that coherently separated lasing signals, an X-coupler performing transfer matrix functions with two distinguishable light sources, and a Mach-Zehnder interferometer manipulating the splitting and coalescence of coherent light beams. These results provide a proof-of-concept for active integrated functionalized photonic devices based on perovskite semiconductors, representing a promising avenue for practical applications in integrated optical chips.

ABSTRACTContinuous emergence of new variants of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), enhanced transmissibility, significant immune escape, and waning immunity call for booster vaccination. We evaluated the safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy of heterologous booster with a SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine SYS6006 versus an active control vaccine in a randomized, open-label, active-controlled phase 3 trial in healthy adults aged 18 years or more who had received two or three doses of SARS-CoV-2 inactivated vaccine in China. The trial started in December 2022 and lasted for 6 months. The participants were randomized (overall ratio: 3:1) to receive one dose of SYS6006 (N = 2999) or an ancestral receptor binding region-based, alum-adjuvanted recombinant protein SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (N = 1000), including 520 participants in an immunogenicity subgroup. SYS6006 boosting showed good safety profiles with most AEs being grade 1 or 2, and induced robust wild-type and Omicron BA.5 neutralizing antibody response on Days 14 and 28, demonstrating immunogenicity superiority versus the control vaccine and meeting the primary objective. The relative vaccine efficacy against COVID-19 of any severity was 51.6% (95% CI, 35.5–63.7) for any variant, 66.8% (48.6–78.5) for BA.5, and 37.7% (2.4–60.3) for XBB, from Day 7 through Month 6. In the vaccinated and infected hybrid immune participants, the relative vaccine efficacy was 68.4% (31.1–85.5) against COVID-19 of any severity caused by a second infection. All COVID-19 cases were mild. SYS6006 heterologous boosting demonstrated good safety, superior immunogenicity and high efficacy against BA.5-associated COVID-19, and protected against XBB-associated COVID-19, particularly in the hybrid immune population.Trial registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry: ChiCTR2200066941

IntroductionThe bar-headed goose (Anser indicus), one of the most well-known high-altitude birds, is renowned for its adaptation to high-altitude environments. Previous studies have shown that they can be infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza; however, there is currently limited research on other viruses in bar-headed geese.MethodsIn this study, 10 fecal samples of healthy bar-headed geese were collected, and viral metagenomics method was conducted to identify novel picornaviruses.ResultsSeven novel picornaviruses were identified in the fecal samples of bar-headed geese. Most of these picornaviruses were genetically different from other currently known viruses in the NCBI dataset. Among them, PICV4 was determined to be a new species belonging to the Anativirus genus, PICV5 and PICV13 were classified as novel species belonging to the Hepatovirus genus, and the remaining four picornaviruses (PICV1, PICV19, PICV21, and PICV22) were identified as part of the Megrivirus A species of the Megrivirus genus. Recombinant analysis indicates that PICV21 was a potential recombinant, and the major and minor parents were PICV1 and PICV22, respectively.ConclusionThe findings of this study increase our understanding of the diversity of picornaviruses in bar-headed geese and provide practical viral genome information for the prevention and treatment of potential viral diseases affecting this species.

Diabetes mellitus induces a pathophysiological disorder known as diabetic cardiomyopathy and may eventually cause heart failure. Diabetic cardiomyopathy is manifested with systolic and diastolic contractile dysfunction along with alterations in unique cardiomyocyte proteins and diminished cardiomyocyte contraction. Multiple mechanisms contribute to the pathology of diabetic cardiomyopathy, mainly including abnormal insulin metabolism, hyperglycemia, glycotoxicity, cardiac lipotoxicity, endoplasmic reticulum stress, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, calcium treatment damage, programmed myocardial cell death, improper Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone System activation, maladaptive immune modulation, coronary artery endothelial dysfunction, exocrine dysfunction, etc. There is an urgent need to investigate the exact pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy and improve the diagnosis and treatment of this disease. The nuclear receptor superfamily comprises a group of transcription factors, such as liver X receptor, retinoid X receptor, retinoic acid-related orphan receptor-α, retinoid receptor, vitamin D receptor, mineralocorticoid receptor, estrogen-related receptor, peroxisome proliferatoractivated receptor, nuclear receptor subfamily 4 group A 1(NR4A1), etc. Various studies have reported that nuclear receptors play a crucial role in cardiovascular diseases. A recently conducted work highlighted the function of the nuclear receptor superfamily in the realm of metabolic diseases and their associated complications. This review summarized the available information on several important nuclear receptors in the pathophysiology of diabetic cardiomyopathy and discussed future perspectives on the application of nuclear receptors as targets for diabetic cardiomyopathy treatment.

Furan-containing compounds distribute widely in food, herbal medicines, industrial synthetic products, and environmental media. These compounds can undergo oxidative metabolism catalyzed by cytochrome P450 enzymes (CYP450) within organisms, which may produce reactive products, possibly reacting with biomolecules to induce toxic effects. In this work, we performed DFT calculations to investigate the CYP450-mediated metabolic mechanism of furan-ring oxidation using 2-methylfuran as a model substrate, meanwhile, we studied the regioselective competition of another hydroxylation reaction involving methyl group of 2-methylfuran. As a result, we found the toxicological-relevant cis-enedione product can be produced from O-addition directly via a concerted manner without formation of an epoxide intermediate as traditionally believed. Moreover, our calculations demonstrate the kinetic and thermodynamic feasibility of both furan-ring oxidation and methyl hydroxylation pathways, although the former pathway is a bit more favorable. We then constructed a linear model to predict the rate-limiting activation energies (ΔE*) of O-addition with 11 diverse furan substates based on their adiabatic ionization potentials (AIPs) and condensation Fukui functions (CFFs). The results show a good predictive ability (R2=0.94, Q2CV=0.87). Therefore, AIP and CFF with clear physichem meanings relevant to the mechanism, emerge as pivotal molecular descriptors to enable the fast prediction of furan-ring oxidation reactivities for quick insight into the toxicological risk of furans, using just ground-state calculations.

ABSTRACT A dysfunction of human host genes and proteins in coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a key factor impacting clinical symptoms and outcomes. Yet, a detailed understanding of human host immune responses is still incomplete. Here, we applied RNA sequencing to 94 samples of COVID-19 patients with and without hematological tumors as well as COVID-19 uninfected non-tumor individuals to obtain a comprehensive transcriptome landscape of both hematological tumor patients and non-tumor individuals. In our analysis, we further accounted for the human-SARS-CoV-2 protein interactome, human protein interactome, and human protein complex subnetworks to understand the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 infection and host immune responses. Our data sets enabled us to identify important SARS-CoV-2 (non-)targeted differentially expressed genes and complexes post-SARS-CoV-2 infection in both hematological tumor and non-tumor individuals. We found several unique differentially expressed genes, complexes, and functions/pathways such as blood coagulation (APOE, SERPINE1, SERPINE2, and TFPI), lipoprotein particle remodeling (APOC2, APOE, and CETP), and pro-B cell differentiation (IGHM, VPREB1, and IGLL1) during COVID-19 infection in patients with hematological tumors. In particular, APOE, a gene that is associated with both blood coagulation and lipoprotein particle remodeling, is not only upregulated in hematological tumor patients post-SARS-CoV-2 infection but also significantly expressed in acute dead patients with hematological tumors, providing clues for the design of future therapeutic strategies specifically targeting COVID-19 in patients with hematological tumors. Our data provide a rich resource for understanding the specific pathogenesis of COVID-19 in immunocompromised patients, such as those with hematological malignancies, and developing effective therapeutics for COVID-19.IMPORTANCEA majority of previous studies focused on the characterization of coronavirus infectious disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease severity in people with normal immunity, while the characterization of COVID-19 in immunocompromised populations is still limited. Our study profiles changes in the transcriptome landscape post-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in hematological tumor patients and non-tumor individuals. Furthermore, our integrative and comparative systems biology analysis of the interactome, complexome, and transcriptome provides new insights into the tumor-specific pathogenesis of COVID-19. Our findings confirm that SARS-CoV-2 potentially tends to target more non-functional host proteins to indirectly affect host immune responses in hematological tumor patients. The identified unique genes, complexes, functions/pathways, and expression patterns post-SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients with hematological tumors increase our understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 manipulates the host molecular mechanism. Our observed differential genes/complexes and clinical indicators of normal/long infection and deceased COVID-19 patients provide clues for understanding the mechanism of COVID-19 progression in hematological tumors. Finally, our study provides an important data resource that supports the increasing value of the application of publicly accessible data sets to public health.

Location is key to corporate investment decisions. Many studies have examined firms' investment in regions with sound institutional environments, but little is known about their investment in poor regions. This paper examines the impact of Targeted Poverty Alleviation (TPA) on firms’ investment in poor regions using listed firms from 2007 to 2021. It finds that TPA mainly guides resource-dependent and labour-intensive firms to invest in poor regions through subsidiaries. Further analysis shows that firms establish subsidiaries in poor regions actively, not passively motivated by administrative orders. The heterogeneity analysis shows that, the higher the land and labour prices in firms’ location, the more likely they are to establish subsidiaries in poor regions. Signalling and resource effects are the main drivers of firms’ investment in poor regions. This paper provides evidence for the effectiveness of TPA and implications for firms to achieve common prosperity..

Solar wind charge exchange (SWCX) is the process of solar wind high-valence ions exchanging charges with neutral components and generating soft X-rays. Recently, detecting the SWCX emission from the magnetosphere is proposed as a new technique to study the magnetosphere using panoramic soft X-ray imaging. To better prepare for the data analysis of upcoming magnetospheric soft X-ray imaging missions, this paper compares the magnetospheric SWCX emission obtained by two methods in an XMM-Newton observation, during which the solar wind changed dramatically. The two methods differ in the data used to fit the diffuse X-ray background (DXB) parameters in spectral analysis. The method adding data from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS) is called the RASS method. The method using the quiet observation data is called the Quiet method, where quiet observations usually refer to observations made by the same satellite with the same target but under weaker solar wind conditions. Results show that the spectral compositions of magnetospheric SWCX emission obtained by the two methods are very similar, and the changes in intensity over time are highly consistent, although the intensity obtained by the RASS method is about \begin{document}$2.68\,\pm\, 0.56$\end{document} keV \begin{document}${\rm{cm}}^{-2} {\rm{s}}^{-1} {\rm{sr}}^{-1}$\end{document} higher than that obtained by the Quiet method. Since the DXB intensity obtained by the RASS method is about \begin{document}$2.84\,\pm\, 0.74$\end{document} keV \begin{document}${\rm{ cm}}^{-2} {\rm{s}}^{-1} {\rm{sr}}^{-1}$\end{document} lower than that obtained by the Quiet method, and the linear correlation coefficient between the difference of SWCX and DXB obtained by the two methods in different energy band is close to −1, the differences in magnetospheric SWCX can be fully attributed to the differences in the fitted DXB. The difference between the two methods is most significant when the energy is less than 0.7 keV, which is also the main energy band of SWCX emission. In addition, the difference between the two methods is not related to the SWCX intensity and, to some extent, to solar wind conditions, because SWCX intensity typically varies with the solar wind. In summary, both methods are robust and reliable, and should be considered based on the best available options.

Abstract Background Chromosomal translocations involving core binding factor (CBF) genes account for 15% of adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cases in China. Despite being classified as favorable‐risk by European Leukemia Net (ELN), CBF‐AML patients have a 40% relapse rate. This study aims to analyze clinical characteristics and prognosis of CBF‐AML, compare its subtypes (inv(16) and t(8;21)), and validate prognostic factors. Methods Retrospective analysis of 149 AML patients (75 CBF‐AML, 74 non‐CBF) at Peking University First Hospital (March 2012–March 2022). Results CBF‐AML patients have significantly lower disease‐free survival (DFS) (p = 0.005) and higher non‐relapse mortality (NRM) (p = 0.028) compared to non‐CBF AML. inv (16) and t(8;21) show distinct co‐occurring gene mutation patterns, with inv(16) being prone to central nervous system (CNS) leukemia. Multivariate analysis identifies age as a risk factor for overall survival (OS) and disease free survival (DFS), kinase mutation as a risk factor for DFS and Recurrence, while WT1 mutation as a risk factor for OS and non relapse mortality (NRM) risk in t(8;21) AML. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT) improves prognosis in low‐risk t(8;21). Conclusion Prognosis of CBF‐AML is poorer than ELN guidelines suggest. inv(16) and (8;21) are separate entities with relatively poor prognoses, requiring rational risk stratification strategies. Allo‐HSCT may benefit low‐risk t(8;21), but further research is needed for conclusive evidence.

Research of artificial synapses is increasing in popularity with the development of bioelectronics and the appearance of wearable devices. Because the high-temperature treatment process of inorganic materials is not compatible with flexible substrates, organic ferroelectric materials that are easier to process have emerged as alternatives. An organic synaptic device based on P(VDF-TrFE) was prepared in this study. The device showed reliable P/E endurance over 104 cycles and a data storage retention capability at 80 °C over 104 s. Simultaneously, it possessed excellent synaptic functions, including short-term/ long-term synaptic plasticity and spike-timing-dependent plasticity. In addition, the ferroelectric performance of the device remained stable even under bending (7 mm bending radius) or after 500 bending cycles. This work shows that low-temperature processed organic ferroelectric materials can provide new ideas for the future development of wearable electronics and flexible artificial synapses.

Amorphous carbon is recognized as an excellent lubricating material; however, its tribological properties are significantly influenced by humidity. To elucidate the mechanism underlying this humidity dependence and to propose a novel enhancement method, we investigated and compared the tribological properties of hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C:H) and amorphous carbon/gold (a-C/Au) composite films. First, the friction coefficient of these carbon films under different humidity conditions was tested using a rotational ball-on-disk tribometer. Subsequently, we analyzed the morphology and structure of the sliding interface employing optical microscopy (OM), Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Finally, first-principle calculations were carried out to calculate the adsorption energy of water molecules on different surfaces. The results indicate that the friction coefficient of a-C:H film and the area of transfer film increase with the increase of humidity. This phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that water molecules enhance the interaction between the a-C:H film and steel counterfaces. Notably, in contrast, the friction coefficient of a-C/Au film demonstrates low sensitivity to humidity due to the formation of an Au transfer film that exhibits weak interaction with water molecules. These findings provide a promising strategy for developing environment-adaptive amorphous carbon films and play an important role in promoting the development of intelligent lubricating film.

This research investigated the phytoplankton ecological stoichiometry characteristics and the balance of the relationship between elements in a mountain river in a cold region. The samples of phytoplankton of four seasons were collected in May 2020, August 2020, November 2020, and February 2021 from the Taizicheng River in Chongli, Zhangjiakou City, China. We determined the contents of carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), sulfur (S), hydrogen (H), and iron (Fe), and analyzed their ecological stoichiometric characteristics and correlation. Our results showed that the contents of C, N, P, S, H, and Fe in phytoplankton were 82.14 ± 32.12 g/kg, 9.22 ± 3.5 g/kg, 1.46 ± 0.55 g/kg, 1.96 ± 0.86 g/kg, 2.36 ± 1.36 g/kg, and 12.64 ± 10.57 g/kg, respectively. Generally, the contents of C, N, and P were relatively stable, while the contents of S, H, and Fe fluctuated greatly, and the coefficient of variation of Fe content was as high as 83.62%. The elemental molar composition of phytoplankton in the Taizicheng River is C156.00N15.41S1.54H51.17Fe5.10P, which showed a significant difference compared with the classical Redfield ratio C106N16P. The high proportion of element C indicated that phytoplankton in the Taizicheng River have a high demand for C and a strong ability to consolidate C. The ratio of N:P was consistent with previous research results. The N:P ratio of phytoplankton in the Taizicheng River was 15.41, suggesting that the growth of phytoplankton in the Taizicheng River was restricted by both N and P. The contents of C, N, and P were positively correlated, while there was no significant correlation among S, H, and Fe. C:P was significantly positively correlated with C:N and N:P, while there were no strong correlations between C:N and C:P, as well as H:S, Fe:S, and H:Fe, indicating that the coupling correlation between phytoplankton elements was different and C, N, and P were highly correlated as important phytoplankton nutrient elements. This study contributes to our understanding of the phytoplankton ecological stoichiometry characteristics and the limiting factors of nutrients in a mountain river and provides a scientific basis for further ecological conservation and management efforts.

Pilot behavior is crucial for aviation safety. This study aims to investigate the EEG characteristics of pilots, refine training assessment methodologies, and bolster flight safety measures. The collected EEG signals underwent initial preprocessing. The EEG characteristic analysis was performed during left and right turns, involving the calculation of the energy ratio of beta waves and Shannon entropy. The psychological workload of pilots during different flight phases was quantified as well. Based on the EEG characteristics, the pilots’ psychological workload was classified through the use of a support vector machine (SVM). The study results showed significant changes in the energy ratio of beta waves and Shannon entropy during left and right turns compared to the cruising phase. Additionally, the pilots’ psychological workload was found to have increased during these turning phases. Using support vector machines to detect the pilots’ psychological workload, the classification accuracy for the training set was 98.92%, while for the test set, it was 93.67%. This research holds significant importance in understanding pilots’ psychological workload.

Plantaginis semen is the dried ripe seed of Plantago asiatica L. or Plantago depressa Willd., which has a long history in alleviating hyperuricemia (HUA) and chronic kidney diseases. While the major chemical ingredients and mechanism remained to be illustrated. Therefore, this work aimed to elucidate the chemicals and working mechanisms of PS for HUA. UPLC-QE-Orbitrap-MS was applied to identify the main components of PS in vitro and in vivo. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was conducted to explore the gene expression profile, and the genes involved were further confirmed by real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR). A total of 39 components were identified from PS, and 13 of them were detected in the rat serum after treating the rat with PS. The kidney tissue injury and serum uric acid (UA), xanthine oxidase (XOD), and cytokine levels were reversed by PS. Meanwhile, renal urate anion transporter 1 (Urat1) and glucose transporter 9 (Glut9) levels were reversed with PS treatment. RNA-seq analysis showed that the PPAR signaling pathway; glycine, serine, and threonine metabolism signaling pathway; and fatty acid metabolism signaling pathway were significantly modified by PS treatment. Further, the gene expression of Slc7a8, Pck1, Mgll, and Bhmt were significantly elevated, and Fkbp5 was downregulated, consistent with RNA-seq results. The PPAR signaling pathway involved Pparα, Pparγ, Lpl, Plin5, Atgl, and Hsl were elevated by PS treatment. URAT1 and PPARα proteins levels were confirmed by Western blotting. In conclusion, this study elucidates the chemical profile and working mechanisms of PS for prevention and therapy of HUA and provides a promising traditional Chinese medicine agency for HUA prophylaxis.

The uncommon metabolic pathways of organic pollutants are easily overlooked, potentially leading to idiosyncratic toxicity. Prediction of their biotransformation associated with the toxic effects is the very purpose that this work focuses, to develop a de novo method to mechanistically predict the reactive toxicity pathways of uncommon metabolites from start aliphatic amine molecules, which employed sertraline triggered by CYP450 enzymes as a model system, as there are growing concerns about the effects on human health posed by antidepressants in the aquatic environment. This de novo prediction strategy combines computational and experimental methods, involving DFT calculations upon sequential growth, in vitro and in vivo assays, dissecting chemically reactive mechanism relevant to toxicity, and rationalizing the fundamental factors. Significantly, desaturation and debenzylation-aromatization as the emerging metabolic pathways of sertraline have been elucidated, with the detection of DNA adducts of oxaziridine metabolite in mice, highlighting the potential reactive toxicity. Molecular orbital analysis supports the reactivity preference for toxicological-relevant C-N desaturation over N-hydroxylation of sertraline, possibly extended to several other aliphatic amines based on the Bell-Evans-Polanyi principle. It was further validated toward some other wide-concerned aliphatic amine pollutants involving atrazine, ε-caprolactam, 6PPD via in silico and in vitro assays, thereby constituting a complete path for de novo prediction from case study to general applications.

Introduction: Conventional defect detection systems in Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) typically rely on end-to-end supervised learning, necessitating a substantial number of labelled defective samples for effective training. However, the scarcity of such labelled data poses a challenge.Methods: To overcome this limitation, we present a comprehensive framework for defect detection and localization in Automated Fibre Placement. Our approach combines unsupervised deep learning and classical computer vision algorithms, eliminating the need for labelled data or manufacturing defect samples. It efficiently detects various surface issues while requiring fewer images of composite parts for training. Our framework employs an innovative sample extraction method leveraging AFP’s inherent symmetry to expand the dataset. By inputting a depth map of the fibre layup surface, we extract local samples aligned with each composite strip (tow).Results: These samples are processed through an autoencoder, trained on normal samples for precise reconstructions, highlighting anomalies through reconstruction errors. Aggregated values form an anomaly map for insightful visualization. The framework employs blob detection on this map to locate manufacturing defects.Discussion: The experimental findings reveal that despite training the autoencoder with a limited number of images, our proposed method exhibits satisfactory detection accuracy and accurately identifies defect locations. Our framework demonstrates comparable performance to existing methods, while also offering the advantage of detecting all types of anomalies without relying on an extensive labelled dataset of defects.

Abstract Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is a serious condition that adversely affects women's health. Differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in plasma of patients experiencing RSA is helpful to find new therapeutic targets and identified with mass spectrometry. In 57 DEPs, 21 were upregulated and 36 were downregulated in RSA. Gene ontology analyses indicated that identified DEPs were associated with cell proliferation, including significantly downregulated insulin‐like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2). Immunohistochemical result using clinical decidual tissues also showed that IGFBP2 expression was significantly decreased in RSA trophoblasts. Cell proliferation assay indicated that IGFBP2 treatment increased the proliferation and mRNA expressions of PCNA and Ki67 in trophoblast cells. Transcriptome sequencing experiments and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses revealed that gene expression for components in PI3K‐Akt pathway in trophoblasts was significantly upregulated following IGFBP2 treatment. To confirm bioinformatics findings, we did cell‐based experiments and found that treatment of inhibitors for insulin‐like growth factor (IGF)‐1 receptor‐PI3K‐Akt pathway significantly reduced IGFBP2‐induced trophoblast cell proliferation and mRNA expressions of PCNA and Ki67. Our findings suggest that IGFBP2 may increase trophoblast proliferation through the PI3K‐Akt signaling pathway to affect pregnancy outcomes and that IGFBP2 may be a new target for future research and treatment of RSA.

Ensuring the integrity of aviation plug components is crucial for maintaining the safety and functionality of the aerospace industry. Traditional methods for detecting surface defects often show low detection probabilities, highlighting the need for more advanced automated detection systems. This paper enhances the YOLOv5 model by integrating the Generalized Efficient Layer Aggregation Network (GELAN), which optimizes feature aggregation and boosts model robustness, replacing the conventional Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM). The upgraded YOLOv5 architecture, incorporating GELAN, effectively aggregates multi-scale and multi-layer features, thus preserving essential information across the network’s depth. This capability is vital for maintaining high-fidelity feature representations, critical for detecting minute and complex defects. Additionally, the Focal EIOU loss function effectively tackles class imbalance and concentrates the model’s attention on difficult detection areas, thus significantly improving its sensitivity and overall accuracy in identifying defects. Replacing the traditional coupled head with a lightweight decoupled head improves the separation of localization and classification tasks, enhancing both accuracy and convergence speed. The lightweight decoupled head also reduces computational load without compromising detection efficiency. Experimental results demonstrate that the enhanced YOLOv5 architecture significantly improves detection probability, achieving a detection rate of 78.5%. This improvement occurs with only a minor increase in inference time per image, underscoring the efficiency of the proposed model. The optimized YOLOv5 model with GELAN proves highly effective, offering significant benefits for the precision and reliability required in aviation component inspections.

This paper first analyzes the peak compensation process of electric power units in electric power enterprises, studies the carbon emission model of unit operation and the cost calculation method, then constructs an optimized dispatch model of deep peak compensation in electric power enterprises based on the factors of peaking subject and object and multiple types of adjustable resources, determines the critical peaking rate, and calculates the coefficient of the unit’s peaking capacity and the coefficient of the system’s peaking demand. Finally, based on the model, single-day and multi-day data from the regional power grid were analyzed, and the energy losses of the system units in summer and spring were compared before and after optimization. The results show that the average load factor of coal power units after the optimal dispatch of regional grid peak compensation is increased from 62%-68% before optimization to more than 91%, and the overall energy consumption of the system is reduced by 30.95% in the summer and 39.93% in the spring, which is of theoretical and practical significance for alleviating the scheduling pressure on the grid and the control problems of the power units.

Estrogen, being an essential class of sex hormone, is an important target of endocrine disruption chemicals. It is well known that environmental disruptors could activate or inhibit estrogen receptors, acting as agonists or antagonists, and thus affect the circulating estrogen concentrations. Here, we report enzyme-mediated diradical cross-coupling reactions between alkylphenols (e.g., 2,4-di-tert-butylphenol [DBP], 4-nonylphenol [4-NP], and 4-tert-octylphenol [4-t-OP]) and estrogens (e.g., estradiol [E2]) that generate coupling metabolites and disrupt estrogen homeostasis. Among the phenolic xenobiotics, the screening of metabolic products revealed that alkylphenols had the highest reaction activities and generated coupling metabolites with high abundances (DBP-O-E2, 4-t-OP-O-E2, and 4-NP-O-E2). The coupling reactions were catalyzed by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) and verified by the detection of the coupling products in general populations. In vitro and in vivo exposures together with CYP3A4 inhibition demonstrated that cross-coupling reactions of phenols and E2 significantly reduced the normal levels of E2. We further established a unique spin-trapping-based high-throughput screening method to show the existence of diradicals in the coupling reaction. Density functional theory calculations revealed that spin aromatic delocalization was the fundamental cause of the high rebound barrier and sufficient lifetime of phenoxy radicals that enabled phenolic cross-coupling triggered by cytochrome P450. The identified mechanistic details for diradical cross-coupling reactions provide a novel pathway for phenolic chemicals to disrupt estrogen homeostasis.

ABSTRACTVaccination plays a key role in preventing morbidity and mortality caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). We aimed to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of a SARS-CoV-2 messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccine SYS6006. In the two randomized, observer-blinded, placebo-controlled phase 1 trials, 40 adult participants aged 18–59 years and 40 elderly participants aged 60 years or more were randomized to receive two doses of SYS6006 or placebo (saline). Adverse events (AEs) were collected through 30 days post the second vaccination. Immunogenicity was assessed by live-virus neutralizing antibody (Nab), spike protein (S1) binding antibody (S1-IgG), and cellular immunity. The result showed that 7/15, 9/15 and 4/10 adult participants, and 9/15, 8/15 and 4/10 elderly participants reported at least one AE in the 20-µg, 30-µg and placebo groups, respectively. Most AEs were grade 1. Injection-site pain was the most common AE. Two adults and one elder reported fever. No vaccination-related serious AE was reported. SYS6006 elicited wild-type Nab response with a peak geometric mean titer of 232.1 and 130.6 (adults), and 48.7 and 66.7 (elders), in the 20-µg and 30-µg groups, respectively. SYS6006 induced moderate-to-robust Nab response against Delta, and slight Nab response against Omicron BA.2 and BA.5. Robust IgG response against wild type and BA.2 was observed. Cellular immune response was induced. In conclusion, two-dose primary vaccination with SYS6006 demonstrated good safety and immunogenicity during a follow-up period of 51 days in immunologically naive population aged 18 years or more. BackgroundTree mycorrhizal types (arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and ectomycorrhizal fungi) alter nutrient use traits and leaf physicochemical properties and, thus, affect leaf litter decomposition. However, little is known about how different tree mycorrhizal species affect the microbial diversity, community composition, function, and community assembly processes that govern leaf litter-dwelling microbes during leaf litter decomposition. MethodsIn this study, we investigated the microbial diversity, community dynamics, and community assembly processes of nine temperate tree species using high-resolution molecular technique (Illumina sequencing), including broadleaved arbuscular mycorrhizal, broadleaved ectomycorrhizal, and coniferous ectomycorrhizal tree types, during leaf litter decomposition.Results and discussionThe leaves and needles of different tree mycorrhizal types significantly affected the microbial richness and community composition during leaf litter decomposition. Leaf litter mass loss was related to higher sequence reads of a few bacterial functional groups, particularly N-fixing bacteria. Furthermore, a link between bacterial and fungal community composition and hydrolytic and/or oxidative enzyme activity was found. The microbial communities in the leaf litter of different tree mycorrhizal types were governed by different proportions of determinism and stochasticity, which changed throughout litter decomposition. Specifically, determinism (mainly variable selection) controlling bacterial community composition increased over time. In contrast, stochasticity (mainly ecological drift) increasingly governed fungal community composition. Finally, the co-occurrence network analysis showed greater competition between bacteria and fungi in the early stages of litter decomposition and revealed a contrasting pattern between mycorrhizal types.ConclusionOverall, we conclude that tree mycorrhizal types influence leaf litter quality, which affects microbial richness and community composition, and thus, leaf litter decomposition.

Spermatid elongation is a crucial event in the late stage of spermatogenesis in the Drosophila testis, eventually leading to the formation of mature sperm after meiosis. During spermatogenesis, significant structural and morphological changes take place in a cluster of post-meiotic germ cells, which are enclosed in a microenvironment surrounded by somatic cyst cells. Microtubule-based axoneme assembly, formation of individualization complexes and mitochondria maintenance are key processes involved in the differentiation of elongated spermatids. They provide important structural foundations for accessing male fertility. How these structures are constructed and maintained are basic questions in the Drosophila testis. Although the roles of several genes in different structures during the development of elongated spermatids have been elucidated, the relationships between them have not been widely studied. In addition, the genetic basis of spermatid elongation and the regulatory mechanisms involved have not been thoroughly investigated. In the present review, we focus on current knowledge with regard to spermatid axoneme assembly, individualization complex and mitochondria maintenance. We also touch upon promising directions for future research to unravel the underlying mechanisms of spermatid elongation in the Drosophila testis.

As important components of the cosmopolitan soil biota, soil nematodes are found at multiple trophic levels of the belowground food web and play an important role in soil function. Exploring the actual patterns of soil nematodes along the altitudinal gradients helps understand the spatial soil ecology. In this study, we used molecular analysis approaches to reveal the soil nematode spatiotemporal changes on Oakley Mountain in the northern Greater Khingan Mountain Ranges Northeast China. Our results showed that although the alpha diversity of nematode communities generally decreased with the increased altitude, it did not exhibit a monotonic decrease pattern. Bacterial feeding nematodes occupied the largest proportion among all nematode feeding types. Altitude had a more significant effect than soil depth on the structure of nematode community in all seasons. Soil bulk density, moisture, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, pH, nitrate nitrogen, and total phosphorus were the significant soil variables driving the composition of nematode community. The co-occurrence networks of soil nematode communities showed a distinct seasonal pattern. The nematode community networks in May and September had more modes and links, higher average degrees, and higher average clustering coefficients than the network in July. We demonstrated that the variance of nematode community structure in different altitudes and soil depths could be well explained by edaphic factors. This study extends our knowledge of the nematode spatial ecology in cold temperate regions and contributes to further investigation of soil ecological processes in global challenges.

Over the past 43 years, the forensic medicine team of Shanxi Medical University has adhered to the joint education of public security and colleges, and made collaborative innovation, forming a training mode of “One Combination, Two Highlights, Three Combinations, Four in One” for innovative talents in forensic medicine. It has carried out “5+3/X” integrated reform, and formed a relatively complete talent training innovation mode and management system in teaching, scientific research, identification, major, discipline, team, platform and cultural construction. It has made a historic contribution to China’s higher forensic education, accumulated valuable experience for the construction of first-class major and first-class discipline of forensic medicine, and provided strong support for the construction of the national new forensic talent training system. The popularization of this training mode is conducive to the rapid and sustainable development of forensic science, and provides more excellent forensic talents for national building, regional social development and the discipline construction of forensic science.

Abstract Antimony (Sb), is thought to induce testicular toxicity, although this remains controversial. This study investigated the effects of Sb exposure during spermatogenesis in the Drosophila testis and the underlying transcriptional regulatory mechanism at single-cell resolution. Firstly, we found that flies exposed to Sb for 10 days led to dose-dependent reproductive toxicity during spermatogenesis. Protein expression and RNA levels were measured by immunofluorescence and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). Single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) was performed to characterize testicular cell composition and identify the transcriptional regulatory network after Sb exposure in Drosophila testes. scRNA-seq analysis revealed that Sb exposure influenced various testicular cell populations, especially in GSCs_to_Early_Spermatogonia and Spermatids clusters. Importantly, carbon metabolism was involved in GSCs/early spermatogonia maintenance and positively related with SCP-Containing Proteins, S-LAPs, and Mst84D signatures. Moreover, Seminal Fluid Proteins, Mst57D, and Serpin signatures were highly positively correlated with spermatid maturation. Pseudotime trajectory analysis revealed three novel states for the complexity of germ cell differentiation, and many novel genes (e.g., Dup98B) were found to be expressed in state-biased manners during spermatogenesis. Collectively, this study indicates that Sb exposure negatively impacts GSC maintenance and spermatid elongation, damaging spermatogenesis homeostasis via multiple signatures in Drosophila testes and therefore supporting Sb-mediated testicular toxicity.

Peptide transport is important for plant tissues where rapid proteolysis occurs, especially during germination and senescence, to enhance redistribution of organic nitrogen (N). However, the biological role of peptide transporters is poorly investigated in rice. We characterized the function of the peptide transporter OsNPF8.1 of rice nitrate transporter 1/peptide transporter family (NPF). Ectopic expression of OsNPF8.1 in yeast revealed that OsNPF8.1 encoded a high-affinity di-/tri-peptide transporter, and the osnpf8.1 mutants had a lower uptake rate of the fluorescent-labelled dipeptide c in leaves of rice seedlings. Histochemical assays showed that OsNPF8.1 was highly expressed in mesophyll cells and vascular parenchyma cells, but not detected in root hairs and epidermises. Expression of OsNPF8.1 was induced by N deficiency, drought, NaCl and abscisic acid, and kept at a high level in senescing leaves. Under N deficiency conditions, compared with the wild type Zhonghua 11, the osnpf8.1 mutants grew slower at the seedling stage, and had lower grain yield and lower N content in the grains. In contrast, OsNPF8.1-over-expressing rice (OsNPF8.1-OE) grew faster at the seedling stage and had a higher grain yield. The osnpf8.1 seedlings were less tolerant to salt and drought stresses. These results suggested that stress-induced organic N transportation mediated by OsNPF8.1 might contribute to balance plant growth and tolerate to salt/drought stress and N-deficiency.

Abstract Background Nonstructural carbohydrates (NSCs) reflect the carbon supply status and affect the construction and development of plants. Previous studies have focused on the dynamics of NSCs among plant organs, however, few studies have paid attention to the synergistic variations between fine root traits and NSCs under drought based on the perspective of branch order roots. This study aims to explore the responses of fine root traits and NSCs among root orders of Juglans mandshurica seedlings under different drought intensities and soil substrates. The 2-year-old J. mandshurica potted seedlings were planted in three different soil substrates (humus, loam and sandy-loam soil) and subjected to four drought intensities (CK, mild drought T1, moderate drought T2 and severe drought T3) for 60 days. Results The root biomass of seedlings in sandy-loam soil under the same drought intensity was higher than that of seedlings in humus soil. With an increase in drought, the root biomass, average diameter, root tissue density and cortex thickness decreased significantly, and the specific root length, stele diameter and conduit density increased. The root NSC contents in humus soil were higher than those in sandy-loam soil. The fine root soluble sugar content in all soil substrates decreased with increasing drought intensity, while the root starch and total NSC contents varied among the different soil substrates. Compared with transportive roots, the morphological and anatomical traits jointly explained the higher variation in NSC contents of the absorptive roots. The anatomical traits explained the higher variation in the NSC content of first five order roots. Conclusion Our results suggest that coordinated adaptation of the root traits and NSCs of Manchurian walnut seedlings exposed to water gradients in different soil substrates.

Summary: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which causes 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19), poses a significant threat to global public health security. Like other coronaviruses, SARS-CoV-2 has developed various strategies to inhibit the production of interferon (IFN). Here, we have discovered that SARS-CoV-2 Nsp15 obviously reduces the expression of IFN-β and IFN-stimulated genes (ISG56, CXCL10), and also inhibits IRF3 phosphorylation and nuclear translocation by antagonizing the RLR-mediated antiviral signaling pathway. Mechanically, we found that the poly-U-specific endonuclease domain (EndoU) of Nsp15 directly associates with the kinase domain (KD) of TBK1 to interfere TBK1 interacting with IRF3 and the flowing TBK1-mediated IRF3 phosphorylation. Furthermore, Nsp15 also prevented nuclear translocation of phosphorylated IRF3 via binding to the nuclear import adaptor karyopherin α1 (KPNA1) and promoting it autophagy-dependent degradation. These findings collectively reveal a novel mechanism by which Nsp15 antagonizes host’s innate immune response.

Hydrogen enrichment induced by pipeline welding residual stress is a key issue affecting the safe service of hydrogen pipelines. In order to explore the influence of welding residual stress on hydrogen diffusion and the effect of heat treatment, an X80 pipeline model with a six-layer girth weld was established using ABAQUS software, and coupling analysis of temperature field, stress field, and hydrogen diffusion was carried out. The distribution of residual stress in the welding area and local inclusion area was analyzed, the relationship between the hydrostatic stress and hydrogen diffusion of the pipeline, and the influence of the direction and shape of the inclusion on hydrogen diffusion were explored, and the effect of post-weld heat treatment on the residual stress and hydrogen diffusion in the welding area and local inclusion area was studied. The hydrostatic stress curve is similar to the hydrogen concentration distribution curve, and hydrostatic stress can be considered the main driving force for hydrogen diffusion in the pipeline. As the angle between the inclusions and the hydrogen diffusion direction increases, the hydrogen diffusion flux will gradually decrease. The more slender the inclusions, the stronger the diffusion ability of parallel or 45° inclusions, and the weaker the diffusion ability of perpendicular inclusions. Hydrogen enrichment occurs in inclusions or inclusion boundaries before and after post-weld heat treatment of the pipeline, and the internal hydrogen concentration of hard inclusions is higher than that of soft inclusions. Post-weld heat treatment can significantly reduce welding residual stress and hydrostatic stress, thereby reducing hydrogen enrichment concentration.

This study investigates the occurrence of nonsynchronous, low-frequency vibrations in high-speed motor systems equipped with active magnetic bearings (AMBs). The underlying mechanism is analyzed by considering three factors: actuator saturation, eddy current effects, and external noise. The findings reveal that actuator saturation, characterized by a decrease in gain, is the primary cause of low-frequency vibrations. The nonlinearities of the electromagnetic force and switching power amplifier exacerbate this effect. Although eddy current effects and external noise do not directly initiate low-frequency vibrations, they increase the susceptibility of the actuator to saturation, indirectly impacting the system. To address this issue, the stability of the AMB system affected by saturation nonlinearity is analyzed using the extended Nyquist stability criterion. A compensatory strategy based on the synchronous rotating frame is proposed. A prototype of a 100 kW AMB-based permanent magnet synchronous motor system is developed to validate the approach. Vibration response experiments conducted on the prototype demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, effectively filtering out the synchronous component of the control current and mitigating actuator saturation. Furthermore, at the rated speed of 30000 r/min, the implementation of the compensator reduces the maximum rotor vibration amplitude by approximately 21% compared to using a standalone proportional–integral–derivative controller.

In order to have a more in-depth understanding of the current classroom efficiency and quality of physical education classes, the author uses the extreme difference method to analyze the teaching quality of physical education. Train the network with a large number of classified samples, so that the network system with analysis ability can objectively evaluate the teaching quality of teachers; The Labview software tool is used to solve the calculations of the sigmoid function, the gradient descent method (δ learning rule), and the mean square error used in the algorithm, so that the constructed model can realize self-learning and evaluation functions. We designed an education quality evaluation model for the characteristics of education quality evaluation. Based on previous research and practice, we have compiled an evaluation index system that includes 3 primary indicators and 10 secondary indicators. As a result of conducting experiments based on this index system and the quality evaluation model of education, it became clear that this model is effective.

Strip optical waveguides were realized in Yb3+-doped silicate glass with ultrashort pulse laser ablation assisted He+ ion implantation. Planar waveguides were first prepared near the glass surface by He+ ion implantation (450 keV + 500 keV + 550 keV), followed by annealing at 260℃. After that, under the processing parameters of 3 μJ energy and 50 μm/s ablation velocity, two parallel tracks with separation of 15, 20, and 25 μm were, respectively, inscribed on the sample, which confine the light in lateral direction to form a strip waveguide. The near-field intensity measurement indicates that the strip waveguides maintain the single-mode propagation characteristics with 976 nm laser injection, and present the multi-mode characteristics with 632.8 nm laser injection, showing that the guided modes are well supported in the strip waveguides. The minimum propagation loss of strip waveguide is 1.35 dB/cm. Fluorescence emission spectra indicate that the gain properties of waveguide core were maintained well after waveguide preparation, revealing that the strip waveguide device in Yb3+-doped silicate glass has the potential to become an active device as waveguide laser or waveguide amplifier.

The porous corrosion deposits (known as CRUD) adhered to the cladding have an important effect on the heat transfer from fuel rods to coolant in PWRs. The vapor film is the main constituent in the two-phase film boiling model. This paper presents a vapor film thickness correlation, associated with CRUD porosity, CRUD chimney density, CRUD particle size, CRUD thickness and heat flux. The dependences of the vapor film thickness on the various influential factors can be intuitively reflected from this vapor film thickness correlation. The temperature, pressure, and boric acid concentration distributions in CRUD can be well predicted using the two-phase film boiling model coupled with the vapor film thickness correlation. It suggests that the vapor thickness correlation can estimate the vapor film thickness more conveniently than the previously reported vapor thickness calculation methods.

In this study, a continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR) coupled with up-flow anaerobic sludge beds (UASBs) reactor was successfully developed for enhancing methane production and carbon recovery rate from cornstalks. Acetic acid production was higher in regions A than in B and C. The methane percentage achieved at 75.98% of total gas and methane production of cornstalks was up to 520.07 mL/g, during the stable operation period. The carbon of recovery rate, represented substrates converted to methane gas, reached 69.32% in stable stage. Microbial community structure analysis revealed that Paludibacter, Prevotella/Clostridium sensu stricto, and Caldisericum were the dominant bacteria for the degradation of cellulose, lignin, and other refractory macromolecules in regions A, B, and C, respectively. Methanobacterium and Methanolinea were the two major genera, accounting for methanogenesis generation. Abstract Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) based velocity estimation is one of the most cost-effective and widely used methods in determining velocity in geodesy and transport applications. Highly accurate and reliable velocity measurements can be obtained by exploiting the raw Doppler, carrier phase, and pseudorange measurements with a GNSS receiver. There are several approaches to GNSS-based velocity determination. This paper investigates the characteristics of the approaches which are currently popular and applicable to the observations of Global Positioning System (GPS), BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), and their combination (GPS/BDS). Specifically, it evaluates the performance of the velocity estimated based on the Raw Doppler method, the Time-Differenced Pseudorange method, the Time-Differenced Carrier Phase method, and the Double-Differenced Carrier Phase method, in both static and dynamic modes and in open and urban scenarios. The experiments show that BDS has the advantages in delivering accurate velocity determinations over GPS in the Asia–Pacific region, and the effectiveness of the GPS/BDS in improving the overall accuracy of velocity determination in complex urban scenarios.

During spermatogenesis, mitochondria extend along the whole length of spermatid tail and offer a structural platform for microtubule reorganization and synchronized spermatid individualization, that eventually helps to generate mature sperm in Drosophila. However, the regulatory mechanism of spermatid mitochondria during elongation remains largely unknown. Herein, we demonstrated that NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) 42 kDa subunit (ND-42) was essential for male fertility and spermatid elongation in Drosophila. Moreover, ND-42 depletion led to mitochondrial disorders in Drosophila testes. Based on single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq), we identified 15 distinct cell clusters, including several unanticipated transitional subpopulations or differentiative stages for testicular germ cell complexity in Drosophila testes. Enrichments of the transcriptional regulatory network in the late-stage cell populations revealed key roles of ND-42 in mitochondria and its related biological processes during spermatid elongation. Notably, we demonstrated that ND-42 depletion led to maintenance defects of the major mitochondrial derivative and the minor mitochondrial derivative by affecting mitochondrial membrane potential and mitochondrial-encoded genes. Our study proposes a novel regulatory mechanism of ND-42 for spermatid mitochondrial derivative maintenance, contributing to a better understanding of spermatid elongation.

Abstract Advanced synaptic devices capable of neuromorphic data processing are widely studied as the building block in the next‐generation computing architecture for artificial intelligence applications. Due to its fast speed, low power, and excellent complementary metal‐oxide‐semiconductor (CMOS) compatibility, Zr‐doped HfO2 (HZO)‐based ferroelectric tunnel junction (FTJ) are promising candidates as a new type of non‐volatile memory for neuromorphic device applications. Here, an experimental approach is reported to enhance the tunneling efficiency and the electrical performance by engineering the dielectric stack of the FTJ device. By sandwiching the HZO ferroelectric layer with ZrO2 and Al2O3 layers, the FTJ tunneling current is greatly increased with lowered barrier, larger remnant polarization (Pr), and tunneling electrical resistance ratio as well as suppressed leakage current have been achieved. The optimized FTJ devices are further implemented emulating synaptic functions with demonstrated short/long‐term synaptic plasticity and spike‐timing‐dependent plasticity behaviors. Such engineering in HZO‐based FTJ devices can be promising and instructive for the realization of future ultra‐low‐power and CMOS‐compatible neuromorphic devices and systems.
