Abstract

The $^{13}$C($\alpha$,$n$)$^{16}$O reaction is the main neutron source for the slow-neutron-capture (s-) process in Asymptotic Giant Branch stars and for the intermediate (i-) process. Direct measurements at astrophysical energies in above-ground laboratories are hindered by the extremely small cross sections and vast cosmic-ray induced background. We performed the first consistent direct measurement in the range of $E_{\rm c.m.}=$0.24 MeV to 1.9 MeV using the accelerators at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory (CJPL) and Sichuan University. Our measurement covers almost the entire i-process Gamow window in which the large uncertainty of the previous experiments has been reduced from 60\% down to 15\%, eliminates the large systematic uncertainty in the extrapolation arising from the inconsistency of existing data sets, and provides a more reliable reaction rate for the studies of the s- and i-processes along with the first direct determination of the alpha strength for the near-threshold state.

Abstract

This study discusses implementing the Child Friendly School program based on ethnopedagogy concepts in Gorontalo Regency. A descriptive qualitative approach was used through research at MTs Negeri 1 Telaga Biru, SMP Negeri 1 Limboto, and SMA Negeri 1 Telaga. The subjects of the study involved the entire school community directly involved in the program's implementation. Purposive sampling techniques are used to determine research subjects according to the objectives of this study. Data collection instruments consist of interviews, observations, and documentation. The study results show that Ethno pedagogy in the Child-Friendly School Program is integrated into various school activities, such as integrated activities, literacy and environmental management, that refer to Gorontalo's local values and culture. However, there are obstacles and challenges related to school-institution collaboration, school infrastructure renewal, program funding, cultural facilities, geographical location, and foreign cultural influences. This finding is expected to be a reference for other educational institutions in implementing the Child-Friendly School Program and as an evaluation for the three institutions studied to improve and improve the process of implementing this program.

Abstract

The long-lived $^{60}$Fe (with a half-life of 2.62 Myr) is a crucial diagnostic of active nucleosynthesis in the Milky Way galaxy and in supernovae near the solar system. The neutron-capture reaction $^{59}$Fe(n,$\gamma$)$^{60}$Fe on $^{59}$Fe (half-life = 44.5 days) is the key reaction for the production of $^{60}$Fe in massive stars. This reaction cross section has been previously constrained by the Coulomb dissociation experiment, which offered partial constraint on the $E$1 $\gamma$-ray strength function but a negligible constraint on the $M$1 and $E$2 components. In this work, for the first time, we use the surrogate ratio method to experimentally determine the $^{59}$Fe(n,$\gamma$)$^{60}$Fe cross sections in which all the components are included. We derived a Maxwellian-averaged cross section of 27.5 $\pm$ 3.5 mb at $kT$= 30 keV and 13.4 $\pm$ 1.7 mb at $kT$= 90 keV, roughly 10 - 20% higher than previous estimates. We analyzed the impact of our new reaction rates in nucleosynthesis models of massive stars and found that uncertainties in the production of $^{60}$Fe from the $^{59}$Fe(n,$\gamma$)$^{60}$Fe rate are at most of 25%. 4. Assessment Model of Student Field Practice at Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Training in Indonesia: A Reality and Expectation

Abstract

The assessment model of student field practice is essential to assess the achievement of students' competence as a prospective teacher. It is also important in Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Training. The objective of this research is to identify the available assessment model in sequence to find causes why do the lecturers find difficulty in assessing the students' practice and the expected remedies. This research used concurrent mixed method with concurrent triangulation design. Data was collected using questionnaires, focus group discussion, and documentation. Data was analysed in quantitative using descriptive statistic and in qualitative using Miles & Hubberman method. The result shows that in reality, there are many weaknesses in the assessment model. They are seen in several aspects; from validity and reliability aspects, empirical evident is not found; from objective aspect, layout instrument, guideline, and scoring rubric are unclear and not detail; from the systematic aspect, assessment sequence is unstructured; while from practicality aspect, the result is not optimal. The desired expectation is the provision of a simple assessment that is valid, reliable, objective, and easy to understand as well as practical to be used.

Abstract

The ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}(\alpha,\gamma){}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction plays a key role in the evolution of stars with masses of $M >$ 0.55 $M_\odot$. The cross-section of the ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}(\alpha,\gamma){}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction within the Gamow window ($E_\textrm{c.m.}$ = 300 keV, $T_\textrm9$ = 0.2) is extremely small (about $10^{-17}$ barn), which makes the direct measurement in a ground-based laboratory with existing techniques unfeasible. Up until now, the cross-sections at lower energies can only be extrapolated from the data at higher energies. However, two subthreshold resonances, located at $E_x$ = 7.117 MeV and $E_x$ = 6.917 MeV, make this extrapolation more complicated. In this work, the 6.917 MeV subthreshold resonance in the ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}(\alpha,\gamma){}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction was investigated via the ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}({}^{11}\mathrm{B},{}^{7}\mathrm{Li}){}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ reaction. The experiment was performed using the Q3D magnetic spectrograph at the HI-13 tandem accelerator. We measured the angular distribution of the ${}^{12}\mathrm{C}({}^{11}\mathrm{B},{}^{7}\mathrm{Li}){}^{16}\mathrm{O}$ transfer reaction leading to the 6.917 MeV state. Based on the FRDWBA analysis, we derived the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) of the 6.917 MeV level in $^{16}$O to be (1.10 $\pm$ 0.29) $\times 10^{10}$ fm$^{-1}$, with which the reduced $\alpha$ width was computed to be $18.0\pm4.7$ keV at the channel radius of 6.5 fm. Finally, we calculated the astrophysical $S_{E2}(300)$ factor of the ground-state transitions to be 46.2 $\pm$ 7.7 keV b. The result for the astrophysical $S_{E2}(300)$ factor confirms the values obtained in various direct and indirect measurements and presents an independent examination of the most important data in nuclear astrophysics., Comment: submitted to Physical Review C

Abstract

The 95Zr(n,gamma)96Zr reaction cross section is crucial in the modelling of s-process nucleosynthesis in asymptotic giant branch stars because it controls the operation of the branching point at the unstable 95Zr and the subsequent production of 96Zr. We have carried out the measurement of the 94Zr(18O,16O) and 90Zr(18O,16O) reactions and obtained the gamma-decay probability ratio of 96Zr* and 92Zr* to determine the 95Zr(n,gamma)96Zr reaction cross sections with the surrogate ratio method. Our deduced maxwellian-averaged cross section of 66+-16 mb at 30 keV is close to the value recommended by Bao et al. (2000), but 30% and more than a factor of two larger than the values proposed by Toukan & Kappeler (1990) and Lugaro et al. (2014), respectively, and routinely used in s-process models. We tested the new rate in stellar models with masses between 2 and 6 Msun and metallicities 0.014 and 0.03. The largest changes - up 80% variations in 96Zr - are seen in models of mass 3-4 Msun, where the 22Ne neutron source is mildly activated. The new rate can still provide a match to data from meteoritic stardust silicon carbide grains, provided the maximum mass of the parent stars is below 4 Msun, for a metallicity of 0.03., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

In 2014, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) approved the Jinping Underground Nuclear Astrophysics laboratory (JUNA) project, which aims at direct cross-section measurements of four key stellar nuclear reactions right down to the Gamow windows. Abstract

All the 16F levels are unbound by proton emission. To date the four low-lying 16F levels below 1 MeV have been experimentally identified with well established spin-parity values and excitation energies with an accuracy of 4 - 6 keV. However, there are still considerable discrepancies for their level widths. The present work aims to explore these level widths through an independent method. The angular distributions of the 15N(7Li, 6Li)16N reaction leading to the first four states in 16N were measured using a high-precision Q3D magnetic spectrograph. The neutron spectroscopic factors and the asymptotic normalization coefficients for these states in 16N were then derived based on distorted wave Born approximation analysis. Abstract

Fluorine is a key element for nucleosynthetic studies since it is extremely sensitive to the physical conditions within stars. The astrophysical site to produce fluorine is suggested to be asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. In these stars the 15N(n, g)16N reaction could affect the abundance of fluorine by competing with 15N(a, g)19F. The 15N(n, g)16N reaction rate depends directly on the neutron spectroscopic factors of the low-lying states in 16N. The angular distributions of the 15N(7Li, 6Li)16N reaction populating the ground state and the first three excited states in 16N are measured using a Q3D magnetic spectrograph and are used to derive the spectroscopic factors of these states based on distorted wave Born approximation (DWBA) analysis. The spectroscopic factors of these four states are extracted to be 0.96+-0.09, 0.69+-0.09, 0.84+-0.08 and 0.65+-0.08, respectively. Based on the new spectroscopic factors we derive the 15N(n,g)16N reaction rate. The accuracy and precision of the spectroscopic factors are enhanced due to the first application of high-precision magnetic spectrograph for resolving the closely-spaced 16N levels which can not be achieved in most recent measurement. The present result demonstrates that two levels corresponding to neutron transfers to the 2s1/2 orbit in 16N are not so good single-particle levels although 15N is a closed neutron-shell nucleus. This finding is contrary to the shell model expectation. Abstract

Background: Body size in adult life is likely associated with risks of endometriosis and adenomyosis, yet little is known about associations with body size earlier in life. Aim: To examine whether birth weight, childhood body mass index (BMI) and height are associated with risks of endometriosis and adenomyosis. Subjects and methods: From the Copenhagen School Health Records Register, 171,447 girls born 1930–1996, with measured weights and heights at ages 7–13 were included. Outcomes were obtained from health registers. Cox regressions were performed to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: During follow-up, 2149 endometriosis cases and 1410 adenomyosis cases were diagnosed. Childhood BMI was inversely associated with endometriosis (HR = 0.92 [95% CI: 0.88–0.96] per z-score at age 7). In contrast, childhood height was positively associated with endometriosis (HR = 1.09 [95% CI: 1.05–1.14] per z-score at age 7). Associations with childhood body size did not differ by endometriosis location. Childhood BMI and height had limited associations with adenomyosis. Birth weight was not associated with endometriosis or adenomyosis. Conclusion: Lean and tall girls are more often diagnosed with endometriosis, but not adenomyosis. These findings suggest that indicators of endometriosis risk are already apparent at early ages.

Here we observed whether the ABCC2 (G1249A) polymorphism impacts the transport abilities of MRP2-dependent paclitaxel, docetaxel, and doxorubicin in recombinant LLC-PK1 cell lines.Methods: LLC-PK1 cell lines transfected with ABCC2 1249G wild-type and ABCC2 1249A variant alleles were used to evaluate the sensitivity, intracellular accumulation, and transmembrane transport of paclitaxel, docetaxel, and doxorubicin.Results: The recombinant ABCC2 1249A variant cell line showed higher IC 50 values for paclitaxel and doxorubicin than ABCC2 1249G wild-type cell system (p< 0.01). Intracellular accumulations of paclitaxel and doxorubicin in cells transfected with ABCC2 1249A variant allele were significantly decreased compared to cells transfected with ABCC2 1249G wild-type allele (p< 0.01). The efflux ratios of paclitaxel and doxorubicin across ABCC2 1249A cell line were significantly increased compared with ABCC2 1249G cell system (p< 0.01). However, ABCC2 (G1249A) polymorphism had no effect on the transport activity of MRP2-mediated docetaxel.Conclusion: Our results indicate that ABCC2 (G1249A) polymorphism affects the transport activities of MRP2-dependent paclitaxel and doxorubicin, resulting in greater efflux of these anticancer drugs.Keywords: ABCC2, polymorphism, sensitivity, accumulation, transport

Abstract

The 33S(p,\gamma)34Cl reaction is important for constraining predictions of certain isotopic abundances in oxygen-neon novae. Models currently predict as much as 150 times the solar abundance of 33S in oxygen-neon nova ejecta. This overproduction factor may, however, vary by orders of magnitude due to uncertainties in the 33S(p,\gamma)34Cl reaction rate at nova peak temperatures. Depending on this rate, 33S could potentially be used as a diagnostic tool for classifying certain types of presolar grains. Better knowledge of the 33S(p,\gamma)34Cl rate would also aid in interpreting nova observations over the S-Ca mass region and contribute to the firm establishment of the maximum endpoint of nova nucleosynthesis. Additionally, the total S elemental abundance which is affected by this reaction has been proposed as a thermometer to study the peak temperatures of novae. Previously, the 33S(p,\gamma)34Cl reaction rate had only been studied directly down to resonance energies of 432 keV. However, for nova peak temperatures of 0.2-0.4 GK there are 7 known states in 34Cl both below the 432 keV resonance and within the Gamow window that could play a dominant role. Direct measurements of the resonance strengths of these states were performed using the DRAGON recoil separator at TRIUMF. Additionally two new states within this energy region are reported. Several hydrodynamic simulations have been performed, using all available experimental information for the 33S(p,\gamma)34Cl rate, to explore the impact of the remaining uncertainty in this rate on nucleosynthesis in nova explosions. These calculations give a range of ~ 20-150 for the expected 33S overproduction factor, and a range of ~ 100-450 for the 32S/33S ratio expected in ONe novae., Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, Accepted for publication in Physical Review C

Abstract

We present a new measurement of the $\alpha$-spectroscopic factor ($S_\alpha$) and the asymptotic normalization coefficient (ANC) for the 6.356 MeV 1/2$^+$ subthreshold state of $^{17}$O through the $^{13}$C($^{11}$B, $^{7}$Li)$^{17}$O transfer reaction and we determine the $\alpha$-width of this state. This is believed to have a strong effect on the rate of the $^{13}$C($\alpha$, $n$)$^{16}$O reaction, the main neutron source for {\it slow} neutron captures (the $s$-process) in asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. Based on the new width we derive the astrophysical S-factor and the stellar rate of the $^{13}$C($\alpha$, $n$)$^{16}$O reaction. At a temperature of 100 MK our rate is roughly two times larger than that by \citet{cau88} and two times smaller than that recommended by the NACRE compilation. We use the new rate and different rates available in the literature as input in simulations of AGB stars to study their influence on the abundances of selected $s$-process elements and isotopic ratios. There are no changes in the final results using the different rates for the $^{13}$C($\alpha$, $n$)$^{16}$O reaction when the $^{13}$C burns completely in radiative conditions. When the $^{13}$C burns in convective conditions, as in stars of initial mass lower than $\sim$2 $M_\sun$ and in post-AGB stars, some changes are to be expected, e.g., of up to 25% for Pb in our models. These variations will have to be carefully analyzed when more accurate stellar mixing models and more precise observational constraints are available.

Abstract

We propose a method for nano-scale characterization of long range magnetic order in diluted magnetic systems to clarify the origins of the room temperature ferromagnetism. The GaN:Mn thin films are grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition with the concentration of Ga-substitutional Mn up to 3.8%. Atomic force microscope (AFM) and magnetic force microscope (MFM) characterizations are performed on etched artificial microstructures and natural dislocation pits. Numerical simulations and theoretical analysis on the AFM and MFM data have confirmed the formation of long range magnetic order and ruled out the possibility that nano-clusters contributed to the ferromagnetism. Angular distribution of the 12C(7Li,6He)13N reaction at E(7Li) = 44.0 MeV was measured at the HI-13 tandem accelerator of Beijing, China. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to estimate the instrument of reading and writing capability of the Qur’an in the practicum program students of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo. This type of research is quantitative with an analysis approach to the generalization theory variance through the G-Study concept with a multifacet design p x r x I three facet variations. The results of the study prove the instrument of reading and reading ability of the Koran was tested, namely the estimated coefficient of reliability of the combined scores of the reading and writing assessment of the Koran from 20 students who were rated by 4 rater of 10 items which were judged by the magnitude of generalizability coefficient value of 0.82749 . The magnitude of this value indicates that the true score of the assessment results is quite high compared to the minimum reliability criteria, which is 0.70 fulfilling the reliable criteria. Abstrak Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengestimasi instrument kemampuan baca tulis alqur’an pada program praktikum baca tulis Alqur’an mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Tarbiyah dan Keguruan IAIN Sultan Amai Gorontalo. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan kuantitatif dengan pendekatan analisis varians teori generalisibilitas melalui konsep G-Study dengan desain multifacet p x r x I tiga variasi facet. Hasil penelitian membuktikan instrumen penilaian kemampuan baca tulis al-Qur’an teruji, yakni estimasi koefisien reliabilitas skor gabungan penilaian kemampuan baca tulis Alqur’an dari 20 mahasiswa yang dinilai oleh 4 rater terhadap 10 item yang dinilai diperoleh besarnya nilai koefisien generalizabilitas sebesar 0,82749. Besaran nilai tersebut menunjukkan bahwa true score hasil penilaian cukup tinggi dibandingkan kriteria reliabilitas minimal yaitu 0,70 memenuhi kriteria reliabel.

Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kualitatitifdengan pendekatan studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui focus groupdiscussion (FGD) , observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil penilaian pelaksanaan PPL yang diperoleh mahasiswa selama ini belum mampu menggambarkan kompetensi yang dipersyaratkan menjadi guru yaitu kompetensi pedagogik, profesional, sosial dan kepribadian. Hal ini dipengaruhi model penilaian yang digunakan dalam buku panduan untuk mengukur kompetensi mahasiswa PPL belum terdeskripsi lengkap dan detail, masih banyak indikator-indikator yang belum dapat ternilai oleh instrumen yang sudah ada dengan rubrik penskoran yang jelas dan ini menjadi realitas yang dihadapi di berbagai TKI Indonesia.Perlu dilakukan pengembangan model penilaian PPL yang didesain secara sederhana dan mudah diaplikasikan oleh dosen pembimbing dan guru pamong dalam melakukan penilaian.Konstruk dan indikator dari item-item instrumen penilaian PPL dikembangkan mengacu pada standar kompetensi PPL yang dirumuskan berdasarkan tuntutan kompetensi guru.

Abstract

The 19F(p, αγ)16O reaction is of crucial importance for Galactic 19F abundances and CNO cycle loss in first generation Population III stars. Due to its extremely small cross sections, the 19F(p, αγ)16O reaction has not been measured in the low energy part of the Gamow window(70-200 keV). As a day-one campaign, the experiment was performed under the extremely low cosmicray-induced background environment of the China JinPing Underground Laboratory(CJPL), one of the deepest underground laboratories in the world. The γ-ray yields were measured over Ec.m. =72.4–344 keV, covering the full Gamow window for the first time. The direct experimental data will help people to expound the fluorine over-abundances, energy generation, as well as heavy-element nuclosynthesis scenario in asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars, with the astrophysical model on the firm ground.

Abstract

This article is aimed to analyse the servant leadership model in achieving and reaching the vision and mission of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Training because this model becomes an important issue applied by the education leaders. The research methodology used in this research is quantitative research with mixed method approach by Creswell. The primary data are collected though by questionnaire and secondary data by interview and documentation. The sample consists of 36 respondents by using purposive sampling technique. The result shows that from ten characteristics of servant leadership model, there are seven models implemented well. Those seven models are listening, achieving other people and emphatic, awareness, building persuasive power, service-ability, commitment, and building community. There are three models need to be improved, those are predicting ability, conceptualization, and healing ability. This leadership model is not an instant solution to solve the problem faced by the leader, but it is a long-term way, which the result comprehensively gives the change of vision and mission achievement.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the quality of Indonesian nationally standardized examination instrument (Soal Ujian Sekolah Berstandar Nasional/SUSBN) in Islamic religious education subjects (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI), on 2011/2012 academic year, in high school of Gorontalo City, Celebes, Indonesia. It was assessed from the aspect of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis based on classical-modern test theory and iteman program. This is an ex post facto research. Data were collected by document analysis technique and used 215 sample from 1321 population of learners. The result shows that items of the question has a good validity level; the distribution of cognitive domain comprehenship enough; it reliability was stable; level of difficulty was categorized as fair; criteria different power are well accepted; effectiveness of detractors items are effective. However, on several points need revised in order to in line with the Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs and National Education Standards Agency.

Abstract

This research generally aimed to describe the characteristic of the ability of Pre-service and In-service TPE participants using the Item Response Theory, IRT. The research subject comprised 516 participants divided into 239 participants of the Pre-service TPE program and 277 participants of the In-service TPE program using the purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through the technique of observation and documentation. In estimating the item parameter and ability parameter, the IRT model polytomous was implemented, which was furthermore described. This finding shows that the assessor could directly recognize the position of the ability of students in the TPE program based on the item characteristic and the ability between the highest and the lowest grade in the ability scale, so this finding did not only support the implementation of TPE program in Indonesia, but also its applicability was expected to revise the assessment of teachers’ performance, the supervision of teachers, field teaching practice, and the assessment in the other teaching fields, so it could be used as an evaluation in revising the assessment model.

Abstract

This study aims to prove the construct validity of the lesson plan assessment instrument in primary schools. In addition, the purpose of this study is to estimate the reliability of lesson plan instruments in primary schools. This research uses a descriptive quantitative approach that is carried out on professional teacher education students at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta and Universitas Islam Negeri Makassar. The subjects of this study were 516 randomly selected students. Data collection is done through documentation of the results of assessments from the field supervisor of each student. The data analysis technique used is confirmatory factor analysis and composites score reliability. The results showed that the lesson plan assessment instrument was measured by 25 items spread over 4 indicators. All items in the lesson plan assessment instrument indicators are construct valid after being tested through confirmatory factor analysis. In addition, the lesson plan assessment instrument in this study was reliable and had a fairly high construct reliability coefficient of 0.92.

Biophysical characterization of PEG-g-PEI-SPION and scFvCD44v6-PEG-g-PEI-SPION was carried out, including siRNA condensation capacity, cell viability, and transfection efficiency. Both the targeting and nontargeting nanocarriers were effective for transferring siRNA in vitro. The cellular uptake and distribution of nanoparticles complexed with siRNA was analyzed by fluorescence imaging and immunofluorescent staining. Moreover, the gastric cancer-targeting effect was verified in vivo by MRI and histology analysis. The purpose of this study was to describe the quality of school exam questions based on the 1-parameter model, 2-parameters model, and 3-parameters model of the elementary school examination in Bontomarannu District, Gowa Regency. This type of research is quantitative descriptive research. The sample of this study was 237 sheets of elementary school participants' answer sheets. The data of this study were collected using documentation collection techniques. Based on the 1-parameter model, in the aspect of difficulty level, as much as 80% of elementary school exam items are in the good category, and 20% are in the bad category. Then on the 2-parameter model, on the aspect of item discrimination, as much as 55% of elementary school exam items are in the good category, and 45% are in the bad category. Finally, in the 3-parameter model, in the aspect of the guessing factor as much as 25% the items of the elementary school exam are in the good category, and 75% are in the bad category.

Abstract

Teachers’ performance is one of crucial topics in education and become a global problem in improving the quality of education in many countries, including the performance of Islamic Education teachers. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate Islamic Education teachers’ performance at SMA (Sekolah Menengah Atas/Senior High School) in Gorontalo Province. The method used in this research consisted of an evaluation research with countenance stake model. The samples were 66 Islamic Education teachers taken by purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained through observation, interview, and document study. The finding of this research shows that the Islamic Education teachers’ performance in learning planning is good. Teachers are able to design a good learning process, although the ability in selecting methods and strategies, selecting media and learning source and composing the assessment component in evaluating the learning should be improved. Because those three components are still in enough category. The performance of teachers in the implementation of learning is in good category, despite there are still some measured components that should be improved such as by doing elaboration activity, doing assessment process and furthermore program. Therefore, explicitly shows that Islamic Education teachers in Gorontalo Province performance should be evaluated. It aims to the professional development and the carrier improvement as a teacher.

Ciclopirox olamine (CPX-O) is a marketed topical antifungal agent with demonstrated in vitro and in vivo preclinical anticancer activity in several solid tumor and hematologic malignancies. The oral route of administration for CPX-O is not feasible due to low bioavailability and dose-limiting gastrointestinal toxicities. To enable parenteral administration, the phosphoryl-oxymethyl ester of ciclopirox (CPX), fosciclopirox (CPX-POM), was synthesized and formulated as an injectable drug product. In rats and dogs, intravenous CPX-POM is rapidly and completely metabolized to its active metabolite, CPX. The bioavailability of the active metabolite is complete following CPX-POM administration. CPX and its inactive metabolite, ciclopirox glucuronide (CPX-G), are excreted in urine, resulting in delivery of drug to the entire urinary tract. The absolute bioavailability of CPX following subcutaneous administration of CPX-POM is excellent in rats and dogs, demonstrating the feasibility of this route of administration. These studies confirmed the oral bioavailability of CPX-O is quite low in rats and dogs compared with intravenous CPX-POM. Given its broad-spectrum anticancer activity in several solid tumor and hematologic cancers and renal elimination, CPX-POM is being developed for the treatment of urothelial cancer. Abstract

Ewing sarcoma (ES) are aggressive pediatric bone and soft tissue tumors driven by EWS-ETS fusion oncogenes, most commonly EWS-FLI1. Treatment of ES patients consists of up to 9 months of alternating courses of 2 chemotherapeutic regimens. Furthermore, EWS-ETS-targeted therapies have yet to demonstrate clinical benefit, thereby emphasizing a clinical responsibility to search for new therapeutic approaches. Our previous in silico drug screening identified entinostat as a drug hit that was predicted to reverse the ES disease signatures and EWS-FLI1-mediated gene signatures. Here, we establish preclinical proof of principle by investigating the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of entinostat in preclinical ES models, as well as characterizing the mechanisms of action and in vivo pharmacokinetics of entinostat. ES cells are preferentially sensitive to entinostat in an EWS-FLI1 or EWS-ERG-dependent manner. Entinostat induces apoptosis of ES cells through G0/G1 cell cycle arrest, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) elevation, DNA damage, homologous recombination (HR) repair impairment, and caspase activation. Mechanistically, we demonstrate for the first time that HDAC3 is a transcriptional target of EWS-FLI1 and that entinostat inhibits growth of ES cells through suppressing a previously unexplored EWS-FLI1/HDAC3/HSP90 signaling axis. Hasil temuan diperoleh permasalahan yang dihadapi adalah pengetahuan tentang desain produk dan pemasaran masih sangat terbatas, usahanya masih bersifat industri rumah, padahal mereka tergolong terampil dalam membuat berbagai jenis kerajinan tangan dalam jumlah banyak, tidak memiliki modal usaha, penghasilannya tidak sebanding dengan waktu dan tenaganya, padahal sifat bahan baku mudah didapatkan dan mampu mengikuti trend dengan teknik dasar menganyam yang hanya dapat dilakukan secara manual. This fact was very ironic where the raw material was very easy to be found and also it was able to follow the current trend by using plait basic technique which could only be done manually. For the business development, it was urgently needed the continual guidance and the giving of venture capital evenly to the all craftsman group of poor housewives. Besides that, it was important to the craftsman to have patent and improved public love to their craft product.

Abstract

Background: Adult body size is related to ovarian cancer risks, but size in childhood may also influence risks. We investigated if childhood body mass index (kg/m2), height, and growth patterns were associated with ovarian cancer overall and by histologic subtypes, including effects of birthweight. Methods: A cohort of 155,958 girls from the Copenhagen School Health Records Register, born 1930 to 1989 with measured weights and heights from 7 to 13 years, were included. During follow-up, 1,041 ovarian cancers were recorded. Overweight was defined using International Obesity Task Force criteria. Cox regressions were performed. Results: Compared with non-overweight girls, at most ages girls with overweight had increased risks of ovarian cancer overall (HR range: 1.24–1.34), mucinous, endometrioid, and clear cell ovarian cancers, but not serous and other ovarian cancers. Childhood height had positive and significant associations with ovarian cancer overall (HR range: 1.07–1.10 per z-score) and the endometrioid subtype but not with the other subtypes. Adjusting for birthweight minimally altered the associations with childhood body size. In growth analyses, girls with overweight or who were tall at 7 and 13 years had increased risks of ovarian cancer overall compared with average-sized girls at both ages. Conclusions: Ovarian carcinogenesis is linked to childhood overweight, tallness, and growth, with variations across histological subtypes, suggesting that early life plays a role in the origins of this disease. Impact: These findings emphasize that healthy body size and growth during childhood are important as they may contribute to reducing ovarian cancer risks.

Abstract

The 12C(α, γ)16O reaction plays a key role in the evolution of stars with masses of M > 0.55 M⊙. At the Gamow peak (Ec.m. = 300 ke V, T9 = 0.2), the cross section of the 12C(α, γ)16O reaction is so small (about 10−17 barn) that the direct measurement in ground laboratory is not feasible with the existing technology. Up to now, the cross sections at lower energies can only be extrapolated from the data at higher energies. However, two subthreshold resonances, locating at Ex = 7.117 MeV and Ex = 6.917 MeV, make this extrapolation more complicated. In this work the 6.917 MeV subthreshold resonance in the 12C(α, γ)16O reaction was investigated via the 12C(11B, 7Li)16O reaction. The experiment was performed using the Q3D magnetic spectrograph at HI-13 tandem accelerator. We measured the angular distribution of the 12C(11B, 7Li)16O transfer reaction leading to the 6.917 MeV state. Based on DWBA analysis, we derived the square of ANC of the 6.917 MeV level in 16O to be (2.45± 0.28) ×1010 fm−1, with which the reduced-α width can be computed. Finally, we calculated the astrophysical SE2 factor of the 6.917 MeV resonance to be 67.6 ± 7.7 ke V b.

Abstract

22Na is an important isotope for the study of extinct radioactivity, meanwhile its sufficiently long half life provides the possibility to observe live 22Na in nearby nova explosions. The 22Na(p,γ) 23Mg is one of the key reactions that influence the 22Na abundance in nova ejecta. To study the proton resonant states in 23Mg relevant to the astrophysical 22Na(p,γ) 23Mg reaction rates, two measurements have been carried out at the CRIB separator of University of Tokyo, and the RIBLL secondary beamline in Lanzhou, respectively. The 22Na secondary beam was produced via the 1H(22Ne, 22Na)n charge exchange reaction. Thick-target inverse-kinematics method is applied to obtain the excitation function of 22Na+p elastic scattering. Extended gas target and solid state polyethylene foil were used in the two measurements, respectively, to map the different excitation energy region of the compound nucleus 23Mg. Several new resonant levels are observed and their contribution to the 22Na(p,γ) 23Mg reaction rate is evaluated.

Abstract

Opioid peptides are key regulators in cellular and intercellular physiological responses, and could be therapeutically useful for modulating several pathological conditions. Unfortunately, the use of peptide-based agonists to target centrally located opioid receptors is limited by poor physicochemical (PC), distribution, metabolic, and pharmacokinetic (DMPK) properties that restrict penetration across the blood-brain-barrier via passive diffusion. To address these problems, the present manuscript exploits fluorinated peptidomimetics to simultaneously modify PC and DMPK properties, thus facilitating entry into the central nervous system. As an initial example, the present manuscript exploited the Tyr(1)-ψ[(Z)CF=CH]-Gly(2) peptidomimetic to improve PC drug-like characteristics (computational), plasma and microsomal degradation, and systemic and CNS distribution of Leu-enkephalin (Tyr-Gly-Gly-Phe-Leu). Thus, the fluoroalkene replacement transformed an instable in vitro tool compound into a stable and centrally-distributed in vivo probe. In contrast, the Tyr(1)-ψ[CF(3)CH(2)–NH]-Gly(2) peptidomimetic decreased stability by accelerating proteolysis at the Gly(3)–Phe(4) position.

Abstract

Background Studies of birth weight associations with ovarian and endometrial cancer risks are limited with inconsistent results, and none has evaluated associations by histologic subtype. We utilized prospectively collected birth weight information to investigate the association with risk of ovarian and endometrial cancers overall and by histologic subtype. Methods 162,559 girls, born from 1930 to 1989, from the Copenhagen School Health Records Register (CSHRR) were followed prospectively via linkage with the Danish health registers. Ovarian (n=666) and endometrial (n=694) cancers were identified from 1978 to 2014. Cox regression was used to estimate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results Women with lower (2.0–3.25 vs. 3.26–3.75kg) and higher (3.75–5.5 vs. 3.26–3.75kg) birth weights had increased risks of ovarian cancer overall [HR (95% CI): 1.27 (1.06–1.52); 1.51 (1.21–1.87), respectively] and serous ovarian cancers [1.54 (1.19–1.98); 1.98 (1.47–2.67), respectively]. A decreased risk of Type II endometrial tumors was suggested per kilogram increase in birth weight [HR (95% CI): 0.63 (0.40–1.00)]. Conclusions Our results suggest that both lower and higher birth weights were associated with increased ovarian cancer risk and associations were particularly strong for serous ovarian cancer, the most common subtype. Birth weight was not associated with most types of endometrial cancer.

Abstract

Phenology is a key aspect of plant success. Recent research has demonstrated that herbarium specimens can provide important information on plant phenology. Massive digitization efforts have the potential to greatly expand herbarium-based phenological research, but also pose a serious challenge regarding efficient data collection. Here, we introduce CrowdCurio, a crowdsourcing tool for the collection of phenological data from herbarium specimens. We test its utility by having workers collect phenological data (number of flower buds, open flowers and fruits) from specimens of two common New England (USA) species: Chelidonium majus and Vaccinium angustifolium. We assess the reliability of using nonexpert workers (i.e. Amazon Mechanical Turk) against expert workers. We also use these data to estimate the phenological sensitivity to temperature for both species across multiple phenophases. We found no difference in the data quality of nonexperts and experts. Nonexperts, however, were a more efficient way of collecting more data at lower cost. We also found that phenological sensitivity varied across both species and phenophases. Our study demonstrates the utility of CrowdCurio as a crowdsourcing tool for the collection of phenological data from herbarium specimens. Furthermore, our results highlight the insight gained from collecting large amounts of phenological data to estimate multiple phenophases.

Abstract

We present the first experimental determination on the spectroscopic amplitudes (SAs) for the α-cluster in the B11 ground state via the Li7(Li6,d)11B reaction using a high-precision magnetic spectrograph. This is believed to have a strong effect on the studies of α-induced reactions which are crucial in nuclear astrophysics. It is found that the previous SAs of B11 from shell model calculations cause overestimations of up to 23% for the C12(α,γ)16O SE2(300) factor and up to 34% for the C13(α,n)16O S(190) factor with respect to the results from the present experimentally determined SAs. Due to the importance of these two reactions, for example the uncertainty in the C12(α,γ)16O cross section at Ec.m. = 300 keV is required to be better than 10% by stellar modeling, the new S-factors could result in a potential influence on the astrophysical network calculations.

Abstract

This paper presents a time sequential Monte Carlo simulation approach to reliability assessment of substation and switching stations. The technique is illustrated by application to a practical configuration and used to evaluate the station reliability indices which are then compared with those obtained using an analytical method. The study results show that the simulation method can provide acceptable indices. The simulation approach is also used to perform station sensitivity analysis by varying selected station component parameters. This type of analysis can play an important role in improving power system reliability and is essential and necessary in the selection of critical components. The Monte Carlo procedure is utilized to develop probability distributions associated with the station reliability indices. The paper illustrates how the simulation method can provide additional indices which can not easily be obtained using an analytical method.
