Abstract

We propose an all-silicon multi-layer interference filter composed solely of silicon with sub-wavelength structure (SWS) in order to realize high performance optical filters operating in the THz frequency region with robustness against cryogenic thermal cycling and mechanical damage. We demonstrate fabrication of a three-layer prototype using well-established common micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technologies as a first step toward developing practical filters. The measured transmittance of the three-layer filter agrees well with the theoretical transmittances calculated by a simple thin-film calculation with effective refractive indices as well as a rigorous coupled-wave analysis simulation. We experimentally show that SWS layers can work as homogeneous thin-film interference layers with effective refractive indices even if there are multiple SWS layers in a filter., Comment: Accepted for publication in J Infrared Milli Terahz Waves. Abstract

本報告ではMEMS(Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) ジャイロスコープを用いた小型で高性能なMEMS-IRU(Inertial Reference Unit: 慣性基準装置) の開発結果に関して述べる。近年衛星の小型・高性能化の潮流により搭載する機器も小型化、高性能化が求められている。小型の衛星や探査機で使用される中精度の小型IRU（Inertial Reference Unit: 慣性基準装置）は、姿勢制御に必須な航法センサであり、衛星や探査機の姿勢決定精度などの性能を決める機器である。IRU は必須の機器でありながら、現状は米国製等の光ファイバジャイロに依存し国際情勢によっては入手性等に課題が生じる場合がある。これに対し、宇宙とは別用途でMEMSジャイロの技術を保有している企業に対し、宇宙科学研究所の技術的知見を投入し、衛星や探査機用途に必要な長時間のバイアス安定性などの特性をもつMEMS ジャイロの戦略的開発研究（工学委員会）を実施してきた。本開発では、このMEMS ジャイロ用いた小型軽量で低消費電力な国産IRU の開発い、米国製FOG との比較で同等の性能を維持しつつ、民生技術などを活用し、体積・質量は1/2、消費電力は1/3 を実現した。, This report describes the development of a compact Inertial Reference Unit (IRU) using MEMS technology. By using MEMS technology, an IRU used for attitude control of satellites and probes could be made half the size and mass and one-third the power consumption of a small FOG, while maintaining the same performance as a small FOG. We fabricated a MEMS-IRU EM equivalent and conducted performance and environmentaltests. As a result, we confirmed that the small IRU has the accuracy to be used in small satellites and probes. Abstract

観測ロケットS-310-45号機の実験計画および実験結果について報告する．本実験では，今後の観測ロケットの利用対象を拡大することを目的とし，ロケット搭載の慣性プラットフォームおよび分離式浮遊プローブの実証実験を実施した．これらの実験装置について，実験計画と製造および試験について，そしてフライトによって得られた実験結果について報告している．慣性プラットフォームは一部予定していた実験データを取得することができなかったが，慣性プラットフォームの機械構造を上空で動作させて基礎的なデータを取得することができ，装置についての原理検証および製造方針についての飛翔実証を実施することができた．一方プローブ実験においてはロケットから分離し，分離後の運動データを取得することができた．また，実験中の全休画像取得にも成功し，宇宙で動作している観測ロケットの広視界の鮮明な画像を取得できた．これらについて，計画段階，試験段階，そしれ実験結果についてをまとめて紹介している．, This report describes the plan and result of S-310-45 mission using ISAS/JAXA sounding rocket. The experiment was performed on 9th January 2020 as planned without any major problems. The purpose of this mission is to demonstrate the newly proposed onboard apparatus for the sounding rocket in order to enlarge the field of researchers who are thinking of using the sounding rocket for their purposes. The authors have been proposed two approaching ways: one is to use an inertial perform mechanism for its attitude stabilization, and the other is to detach necessary user-equipment from the rocket to get way from disturbance of mechanical and electro magnetic interference sourcing from the rocket body. 7. Effect of Replanting Zinnia Plants for Remediation of Oil-Contaminated Soil

Abstract

Previously, we demonstrated that the zinnia plant was effective for the phytoremediation of oil-contaminated soils and that it had a higher remediation effect during the initial growth period. Therefore, repeated planting of zinnia for the initial growth period might enhance the remediation of contaminated soils, so we performed the following study. Seeds were sown in soils containing 4% (w/w) diesel oil and grown for 100 days. We carried out two treatments: replanted plots where above-ground parts of plants were cut after 50 days, and new seeds were sown; or non-replanted plots where plants were allowed to grow for 100 days. The soil dehydrogenase activity and soil total petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations were analyzed. At the end of the study, no significant differences were found between replanted and non-replanted plots for either measurement. Therefore, replanting did not affect remediation. Degradable oil components in the soils may have been degraded in the initial growth period of the first planting, but by the time of replanting there may have been few degradable oil components left in the soil, so there was no beneficial effect of replanting. We concluded that replanting is unsuitable for phytoremediation of oil-contaminated soils.

Abstract

The x-ray reflectivity of an ultralightweight and low-cost x-ray optic using anisotropic wet etching of Si (110) wafers is evaluated at two energies, C [K.sub.[alpha]] 0.28 keV and Al[K.sub.[alpha]] 1.49 keV. The obtained reflectivities at both energies are not represented by a simple planar mirror model considering surface roughness. Hence, an geometrical occultation effect due to step structures upon the etched mirror surface is taken into account. Then, the reflectivities are represented by the theoretical model. The estimated surface roughness at C [K.sub.[alpha]] (~6 nm rms) is significantly larger than ~1 nm at Al [K.sub.[alpha]]. This can be explained by different coherent lengths at two energies. Abstract

High-performance antennas at lightwave frequency require optimal curved surfaces and high mechanical precision in order to realize high aperture efficiencies. We have developed a novel micro lightwave antenna by employing the micro electromechanicai system processing technology. We describe a transparent antenna that has a multilevel step structure with a diameter of 4 millimeters. The ideal curve of the antenna surface is discretized by steps of constant height. The characteristics of the fabricated antenna have been measured; its gain is 84.1 dBi, which is 0.83 dB less than that of a reference antenna with a uniform field distribution. The aperture efficiency is 82.6%. The power radiation pattern is measured through the Fourier transform lens method and is in good agreement with the simulation result. A technique is described for measuring the far-field radiation pattern, gain, and the transmissivity of each portion of an aperture of lightwave (optical) antennas. First, the compatibility of lightwave antennas to a system is mentioned. Then, the principles and setup for each measurement term are presented. A comparison with radio-wave antennas is also given. SPICA Science Conference from Exoplanets to Distant Galaxies: SPICA's New Window on the Cool Universe (June 18-21, 2013. Ito Hall, the University of Tokyo), Bunkyou-ku, Tokyo, Japan, SPICA Coronagraph Instrument (SCI) is an instrument dedicated for direct detection and characterization of exoplanets and also for other science that needs a high-contrast imaging and spectroscopic capability in the near to mid-infrared wavelengths. We will present the major science cases for exoplanets from the instrument proposal of SCI. Thanks to the high-contrast imaging and spectroscopic capability, we will be able to tackle the various problems on the exoplanet science. SCI will give us the unique opportunity to observationally understand the formation process of Jovian planets, which is still poorly understood, by measuring temperatures of young Jovian planets. Spectroscopy of planet atmospheres will enable us to reveal the chemical compositions by measuring the abundances of various important molecules such as CO, CH4, NH3, H2O, H2 etc. We will also access to the structure of Jovian atmosphere, for example the existence of thermal inversion which is known for our Solar system planets. Abstract

To develop x-ray mirrors for micropore optics, smooth silicon (111) sidewalls obtained after anisotropic wet etching of a silicon (110) wafer were studied. A sample device with 19 [micro]m wide (111) sidewalls was fabricated using a 220 [micro]m thick silicon (110) wafer and potassium hydroxide solution. For what we believe to be the first time, x-ray reflection on the (111) sidewalls was detected in the angular response measurement. Compared to ray-tracing simulations, the surface roughness of the sidewalls was estimated to be 3-5 nm, which is consistent with the atomic force microscope and the surface profiler measurements. 18. Bulk micromachined tunneling tips integrated with positioning actuators

Abstract

In this paper, we have successfully developed an integrated micromechanical system for controlling tunneling current. A pair of nanoscale tunneling tips have been integrated with a silicon micromachined electrostatic actuator of high-aspect ratio. The tip sharpness has been observed to be as sharp as commercial tips by scanning over surface of carbon graphite as an atom scale. We have also succeeded to observe the tunneling current in the air and in the vacuum condition (in TEM). Abstract

This paper presents a novel micromachined actuator which is developed to produce precise and unlimited displacement. The actuator is driven by impact force between a silicon micro-mass and a stopper. The suspended silicon micro-mass is encapsulated between two glass plates and driven by electrostatic force. When the mass hits the stopper which is fixed on glass plates, impact force is generated to drive the whole actuator in a nano size step (~ 10 nm). The overall dimension of the device is 3 [micro]m x 3 mm. The driving voltage is 100 V and average speed is 2.7 [micro]m/s. The total thickness is 600/ [micro]m. Abstract

This paper reports a new fabrication process and designing method to integrate MEMS piggyback actuators on a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafer with magnetic read/write heads of hard-disk drives. Large bandwidth of the tracking servo system is designed by reducing the load mass for the tracking microactuator to be around 40 [micro]g. A prototype electrostatic MEMS actuator (2 mm x 3 mm x 0.6 mm) of multiple parallel plates has been successfully integrated by using high-aspect ratio microstructures (gap opening 2 [micro]m into 50-[micro]m-SOI wafer) patterned by deep reactive-ion-etching (DRIE). A dc displacement of 0.5 [micro]m, which is almost the same size as data track width, has been obtained at a driving voltage of dc 60 V and the fundamental resonance is found at 16 kHz. An analytical model of the MEMS piggyback actuator has been proposed to predict electromechanical performance. The fabrication method proposed here is very simple and straightforward to put the head-element-drive mechanism into practice. Abstract

This paper presents the proto-flight model results of X band synthetic aperture radar for small satellites including the RF power amplifier, high speed data storage/transmission system, and the ground SAR response test results. The specifications of SAR performance are single polarization SAR with 3m ground resolution for strip map mode. 1 m ground resolution can be achieved with sliding spot light mode under condition of limited value of NESZ at 600km altitude orbit. The data down link is high speed X band down link with 2-3 Gbps. In May, 2019, 2.5Gbps down link with 64APSK modulation in dual polarization channels was demonstrated by RAPIS-1 Satellite. We will launch the first demonstration SAR satellite in 2020 as collaboration with a private company.

24. Dual Circularly Polarization X band 2Gbps Downlink Communication System of Earth Observation Satellite

Abstract

We are developing 2.8Gbps down link in X band (8025-8350MHz) from small SAR observation satellites. The modulation is 64APSK of DVB-S2X with symbol rate of 300Msps. Dual polarization channels are applied to the system. We have tested an engineering model of the transmitter, and the on-board antenna with high cross-polarization discrimination (XPD). The ground antenna with high XPD is also developed. This down link system will be demonstrated in 2019 by JAXA advanced small satellite.

25. Engineering-Model Results of X-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar for Small Satellite and its Application to Constellation Mission

Abstract

This paper presents the engineering model results of this X band synthetic aperture radar for small satellites and its application to constellation missions.The specifications of SAR performance are single polarization SAR with 1m ground resolution at 350 km altitude and with 3m ground resolution at 600km altitude orbit. A satellite is supposed to be 130kg in mass and the size is 0.7m x 0.8m x 0.9m on a rocket. A size of the deployed antenna is 4.9m x 0.7m. A chirped transmitting signal is amplified in a six GaN HEMT 200W amplifier modules to be combined in a waveguide resonator. The type of antenna system is deployable plane antenna due to its compact stow volume. Novel parallel plate slotted array antennas have been developed. We have performed compact range test, near-field measurement of an antenna wing with 2.8m x 0.7m size. The peak aperture efficiency is measured to be higher than 50%. We will launch the first demonstration satellite in late 2019. We finally will build a constellation of several tens SAR satellites with 1-3m resolution to realize from every day to every few hours revisit.

Abstract

Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is an important concept in keeping performance and functions of electronic devices without any degradation due to external noise. The EMC criteria in scientific satellites is decided depending on payloads of satellites. In particular, noise levels to be allowed are quite low in missions to explore space electromagnetic environments, because their targets to observe are extremely weak magnetic fields and electromagnetic waves. Each onboard instrument is required to suppress its emitting noise levels to be below the levels regulated by the EMC criteria. The present paper describes the introduction of the EMC criteria, EMC measurements on the ground and results on the orbit for the Arase satellite, which is exploring electromagnetic environments in the geospace region.

Abstract

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) developed piggyback satellite named INDEX. We applied lithium-ion secondary battery based on pouch cells for the satellite. The cell is designed using manganese oxide for the positive electrode and graphite carbon for the negative. The electrolyte for the lithium-ion cell is dissolved by organic solvent. Due to this configuration of the cell, the cell expands under the vacuum conditions. Since the expansion increases the DC impedance of the cell, we observed the degradation of the performance under vacuum conditions. In order to prepare the battery which is tolerant against the vacuum environment, the pouch cells were potted with resin and reinforced by the aluminum housing. More than 3,300 cycles of the charge/discharge performance was confirmed. We also tested the tolerance against the radiation using bare cells, and observed no degradation of capacity. Abstract

This paper presents a novel micromechanism for precise positioning by using an N-bit digital code. The mechanism is an N-stage network of connected suspensions, in which an electrostatic actuator is attached to the longer suspensions of compliance 2C, and N of such unit structures are connected side by side with the shorter suspensions of compliance C. Each actuator is an electrostatic shuttle moving back and forth between the driving electrodes, and is operated by the corresponding digit of the input code. The N-bits of local displacement accumulate in the suspension network to synthesize an analog output, which is proportional to the analog value coded with the N-bit input. The output displacement is independent of the fluctuation of the driving voltage since the traveling distance of the shuttle is clipped by mechanical stoppers. We call the mechanism a microelectromechanical digital-to-analog converter (MEMDAC) since the function is equivalent to the electrical digital-to-analog converter known as the R-2R resistor network. Three different types of MEMDAC's are compared. Preliminary results of a silicon micromachined 4-bit MEMDAC successfully showed a total stroke of 5.8 [micro]m with a step of 0.38 [micro]m. Abstract

University of Tokyo and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) are developing a 50kg-class microspacecraft named “PROCYON” for deep space exploration. PROCYON will conduct two missions: 1) demonstration of micro-spacecraft bus system for deep space exploration, and 2) demonstration of asteroid close flyby observation. In order to develop the spacecraft with very low cost (less than a few million dollars), most of the bus system is based on that of Earth-orbiting micro satellite, excluding the communication system and propulsion system which are newly developed for the deep space mission. PROCYON is scheduled to be launched at the end of 2014 together with Japanese second asteroid sample return spacecraft Hayabusa-2. The success of PROCYON will demonstrate that a small-scale spacecraft for deep space exploration can be built with very low cost, which will enable more frequent and challenging deep space exploration.

Abstract

A new type of Micro Sun Sensor (MSS) was started development for use on JAXA’s small satellites and space exploring spacecraft as attitude sensor. In recent years, small satellites are used for various missions, such as the Earth observation and science observation, and high functional attitude control system for small satellite is also required. Therefore, the sun sensor for small satellite is required to be good balance of its dimension, mass, power consumption and performance. The detector of the MSS is a CMOS Active Pixel Sensor (APS). The adoption of the CMOS APS contributes to simplicity and compactness on the MSS. The MSS is equipped with a commercial-grade CMOS APS. The state-of-the-art commercial APS is low cost and high performance. For radiation effect investigation, the tolerance for gamma rays and proton irradiation were tested. The Ground Test Model (GTM) of the MSS was fabricated and also has been tested. This paper reports the description of the MSS, the result of the radiation test for commercial APS and ground optical performance test of the MSS GTM.
