Graphene nanoplatelets (UGZ–1004) are emerging as a promising biomaterial in regenerative medicine. This study comprehensively evaluates UGZ–1004, focusing on its physical properties, cytotoxicity, intracellular interactions, and, notably, its effects on mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). UGZ–1004 was characterized by lateral dimensions and layer counts consistent with ISO standards and demonstrated a high carbon purity of 0.08%. Cytotoxicity assessments revealed that UGZ–1004 is non-toxic to various cell lines, including 3T3 fibroblasts, VERO kidney epithelial cells, BV–2 microglia, and MSCs, in accordance with ISO 10993–5:2020/2023 guidelines. The study focused on MSCs and revealed that UGZ–1004 supports their gene expression alterations related to self-renewal and proliferation. MSCs exposed to UGZ–1004 maintained their characteristic surface markers. Importantly, UGZ–1004 promoted significant upregulation of genes crucial for cell cycle regulation and DNA repair, such as CDK1, CDK2, and MDM2. This gene expression profile suggests that UGZ–1004 can enhance MSC self-renewal capabilities, ensuring robust cellular function and longevity. Moreover, UGZ–1004 exposure led to the downregulation of genes associated with tumor development, including CCND1 and TFDP1, mitigating potential tumorigenic risks. These findings underscore the potential of UGZ–1004 to not only bolster MSC proliferation but also enhance their self-renewal processes, which are critical for effective regenerative therapies. The study highlights the need for continued research into the long-term impacts of graphene nanoplatelets and their application in MSC-based regenerative medicine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Heterogeneous photocatalysis represents a solution for several environmental problems. However, achieving photocatalyst separation from reaction media on a large scale remains a challenge, one that might be overcome by the immobilization of photocatalysts into supports. To this end, composites of polyvinylidene fluoride and zinc oxide (ZnO) were prepared by three different techniques: solution mixing (SM) followed by Nonsolvent Induced Phase Separation; and melt blending at both low- and high-shear rates (LS and HS) in a rheometer and mixing chamber, respectively, to compare the resultant morphology in photocatalysis. Photocatalytic efficiency was assessed by methylene blue (MB) discoloration in a batch reactor liquid phase and by resazurin (RZ) reduction. The changes promoted by nanoparticle inclusion, processing conditions and UV effect were demonstrated by FTIR-ATR, XRD, DSC, and SEM. Results showed that ZnO incorporation was successful under all processing conditions, providing effective photocatalytic composites. However, samples prepared by SM had a twofold increase in discoloration efficiency and fourfold increase in surface photoactivity, when compared with LS or HS-produced samples, explained by its higher porosity of 88% [+ or -] 1.3%. The covering of the photocatalyst surface was also evident on SEM analysis for melt blended samples, further contributing to reduction in their photocatalytic activity. To date, there is no shared consensus on a definition of a complex abdominal wall in elective surgery and in the emergency, on indications, technical details, complications, and follow-up. The purpose of the conference was to lay the foundations for a homogeneous approach to the complex abdominal wall with the primary intent being to attain the following objectives: (1) to develop evidence-based recommendations to define “complex abdominal wall”; (2) indications in emergency and in elective cases; (3) management of “complex abdominal wall”; (4) techniques for temporary abdominal closure. The decompressive laparostomy should be considered in a case of abdominal compartment syndrome in patients with critical conditions or after the failure of a medical treatment or less invasive methods. In the second one, beyond different mechanism, patients with surgical emergency diseases might reach the same pathophysiological end point of trauma patients where a preventive “open abdomen” might be indicated (a temporary abdominal closure: in the case of a non-infected field, the Wittmann patch and the NPWT had the best outcome followed by meshes; in the case of an infected field, NPWT techniques seem to be the preferred). The second priority is to create optimal both general as local conditions for healing: the right antimicrobial management, feeding—preferably by the enteral route—and managing correctly the open abdomen wall. The use of a mesh appears to be—if and when possible—the gold standard. There is a lot of enthusiasm about biological meshes. But the actual evidence supports their use only in contaminated or potentially contaminated fields but above all, to reduce the higher rate of recurrences, the wall anatomy and function should be restored in the midline, with or without component separation technique. On the other site has not to be neglected that the use of monofilament and macroporous non-absorbable meshes, in extraperitoneal position, in the setting of the complex abdomen with contamination, seems to have a cost effective role too. The idea of this consensus conference was mainly to try to bring order in the so copious, but not always so “evident” literature utilizing and exchanging the expertise of different specialists.

- Abstract
Introduction: The effects of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) have been investigated in human osteoblasts, fracture foci, nonunion and periosteum cells. The best results of nonunion treatment with ESWT have been documented for hypertrophic type. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of ESWT in an atrophic nonunion focus generated in a rabbit tibia model. Methods: Three groups were included: A, fractures receiving ESWT; B (“control”), fractures not receiving ESWT, and C, no fractures (right leg). A total of 37 New Zealand white and skeletally mature rabbits (cuniculus NV) were treated. Periosteum was cauterized using bipolar electrocautery at 20 mm in both bone stumps (proximal and distal). Then ESWT was applied in one session. Staining with hematoxylin-eosin was used. A biomechanical analysis with a 3-point loading system was performed. Maximum load and elastic modulus were evaluated in each group. Results: Histological study evidenced signs of union (periosteal and endosteal fracture callus) which were considerably larger in tibias of Group A (treated with ESWT) as compared to the control group (Group B). Conclusion: In an experimental model of atrophic pseudarthrosis caused by electrocautery in tibias of rabbits, significant radiographic and histological changes were observed after focus intervention with the application of ESWT., Introducción: Los efectos de las ondas de choque extracorpóreas se han investigado en osteoblastos humanos, focos fracturarios, seudoartrosis y células periósticas.

Intra-abdominal infections (IAI) are an important cause of morbidity and are frequently associated with poor prognosis, particularly in high-risk patients. The cornerstones in the management of complicated IAIs are timely effective source control with appropriate antimicrobial therapy. Empiric antimicrobial therapy is important in the management of intra-abdominal infections and must be broad enough to cover all likely organisms because inappropriate initial antimicrobial therapy is associated with poor patient outcomes and the development of bacterial resistance. The overuse of antimicrobials is widely accepted as a major driver of some emerging infections (such as C. difficile), the selection of resistant pathogens in individual patients, and for the continued development of antimicrobial resistance globally. The growing emergence of multi-drug resistant organisms and the limited development of new agents available to counteract them have caused an impending crisis with alarming implications, especially with regards to Gram-negative bacteria. An international task force from 79 different countries has joined this project by sharing a document on the rational use of antimicrobials for patients with IAIs. The project has been termed AGORA (Antimicrobials: A Global Alliance for Optimizing their Rational Use in Intra-Abdominal Infections). The authors hope that AGORA, involving many of the world's leading experts, can actively raise awareness in health workers and can improve prescribing behavior in treating IAIs.

Organic coatings have been widely used for the corrosion protection of metal substrates due to their favorable cost and ease of application. The use of nanoparticles, even at low concentrations, is an efficient solution to increase the barrier and resistance properties of organic coatings. The montmorillonite (MMT) is the most used inorganic phase to obtain polymeric nanocomposites. Cerium oxide when incorporated into coatings, in addition to not presenting environmental problems, provides an efficient corrosion protection. The deceleration in the growth of the powder coating industry and the need for new technological products related to the area of polymer nanocomposites constitute a propitious field for the development of a new segment: nanostructured powder coatings. The objective of the present work was to develop an epoxy-based powder coating on a standard commercial formulation of powder coatin with the addition of different grades (2, 4 and 8% (w/w)) of different types of clays Montmorillonites (MMT-Na+, OMMT-15A, and OMMT-30B), modified with (NH4)2Ce(NO3)6 The incorporation of the modified clays (MMT-NaCe, OMMT-15ACe, and OMMT-30BCe) in the formulation of the epoxy-based powder coating was performed in co-rotating co-rotating twin-screw extruder. Powder coatings were applied on electrostatic spray carbon steel metal substrate The efficiency of the incorporation of cerium into the clay structure was confirmed by elemental analysis by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and also by infrared spectroscopy of Fourier (FTIR). In the MET and XRD analyzes of the coatings, it was found that the addition of the OMMT-15ACe clay resulted in a predominantly exfoliated nanocomphatic structure and a homogeneous distribution of the charge in the polymer matrix. Increasing the content of the OMMT-15ACe and OMMT-30BCe clays in the coatings resulted in the reduction in impact strength. It was verified, through the characterization techniques of this work, that MMT-NaCe clay did not interfere in the performance of the coatings regarding the physical and mechanical properties. The subcutaneous migration measurements, performed after the salt spray exposure, indicated the presence of coatings with good anti-corrosion performance for all samples containing the different types and contents of clay. Through the analysis of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, a better anticorrosive performance was found for coatings containing OMMT-15ACe clay.

- Abstract

- Abstract
Computed tomography (CT) imaging is the most appropriate diagnostic tool to confirm suspected left colonic diverticulitis. However, the utility of CT imaging goes beyond accurate diagnosis of diverticulitis; the grade of severity on CT imaging may drive treatment planning of patients presenting with acute diverticulitis. The appropriate management of left colon acute diverticulitis remains still debated because of the vast spectrum of clinical presentations and different approaches to treatment proposed. The authors present a new simple classification system based on both CT scan results driving decisions making management of acute diverticulitis that may be universally accepted for day to day practice.

Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico, CNPq The objective of this dissertation is to present a study of the influence of the addition of nanoclays on thermal, morphological, physical and anticorrosive properties of powder coatings epoxy resin based. Polymeric nanocomposites applied of powder coatings with leveis of 2 and 4 % of orgianophilic montmorillonite (OMMT) (w/w) were obtained in the melt state in extruder twin-screw co-rotation at different processing speeds. The powder coatings were applied to carbon steel substrates by electrostatic spraying. The results show that the parameters used for curing (200 °C for 10 minutes) the coatings were satisfactory, exothermic peaks were not observed in thermograms of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Thermal analysis showed that the incorporation of OMMT resulted in increasing the temperature of degradation maximum for the samples before curinn, and little influence in coatings after curing, also reduces the reactivity (~H reaction) of powder coatings based epoxy with increasing processing speed (400 rpm). The morphological analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated the presence of predominantly exfoliated structures for the nanocomposites, with good dispersion of OMMT in the epoxy matrix. The incorporation of th~e leveis of 2 % of OMMT (w/w), for both processing speed, resulted in coatings with improved impact strength, endurance, flexibility and gloss. The coatings obtained with leveis of 4 % of OMMT (w/w) having better performance on the thermal proiPerties and corrosion resistance, as thermal analysis and exposure to salt spray, respectively. Measures of subcutaneous migration made after salt spray teslting indicated coatings with better barrier properties for samples with OMMT, with was corroborated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results.

- Abstract
Background: It has been shown that a reduction in mean arterial pressure (MAP) causes a haemostatic effect in the intramedullary canal. We found no publications describing an association between in vivo MAP and cementation defects during arthroplasty. This study investigates the association between these two factors. Methods: Fifty six patients were selected after total hip replacement according to a convenience sample. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) during the cementation process was obtained reviewing the intraoperative anaesthetic records. Bubbles and radiolucencies in the bonecement interphase were considered cementation defects. Regression calculations were made using the Spearman method across both variables. Results: The amount of bubbles found in the femoral region was not related to the MAP,R2 = 0,02 (p > 0,05). A statistically significant association between radiolucencies in the cement mantle and MAP values was found. R2 = 0,7 (p < 0,05). Conclusions: A linear correlation was established between cementation defects like radiolucencies and MAP values.

[resumo fornecido pelo autor] Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, CAPES Oxidation of metallic structures is a factor that has been drawing attention of the industries, among them stand out the automobile and civil engineering branches. The mechanical fixation of metallic structures, with screws, rivets and welds, can many times create tension points and galvanic cell between the metals, weakening the joint between the surfaces, accelerating the system corrosion process. An alternative to mitigate the effects of oxidation in the structures and increase the product durability is the utilization of chemical fixation with the use of adhesives. Among several kinds of structural adhesives, the polyurethane adhesive stands out in the cited processes, because it shows properties like chemical resistance, adhesion to several substrates and a better flexibility. Now a variety of nanofillers can be incorporated to the polyurethane polymeric matrix, like graphene, graphene oxide, silica and clay, improving physical, chemical, mechanical and anti-corrosive properties of the polymers. Considering the shown scenario related to oxidation of metallic structures, the present work aims to improve the characteristics of polyurethane based adhesives seeking to meet the necessities of the automobile and civil engineering industries, presenting a study of the influence of the incorporation of montmorillonite nanofillers in the polymeric matrix of the polyurethane adhesive, evaluating it's chemical, thermal and mechanical properties. Propose to compare the performance of a conventional structural polyurethane adhesive to the nanostructured polyurethane adhesive in metallic substrate of carbon steel, as well as the adhesive?s properties before and after the cure. The polyurethane based adhesive used is composed by two parts (A+B), bi-component, being the montmorillonite added to part B, in proportions of 1, 3 and 5% (m/m). To evaluate the cured material, were used the XRD, FESEM, TGA, DSC, hardness Shore A, traction, contact angle and salt fog tests. The steel carbon joint glued with the nanostructured adhesives were evaluated through the resistance to shear after exposition to salt fog up to 240 hours and cyclic aging, the latter being constituted by seven days in 23ºC ± 2 temperature, followed by seven days in water immersion. Afterwards the samples got exposed to 24h at 80ºC, and finally seven days in humidity chamber. Stand out as main results of this study the increase of thermal stability and shift of cure to higher temperatures in all samples. The samples containing the proportions of 1 and 3% (m/m) of OMMT shown improvement in elongation at break 26 and 52%, respectively, better wettability in 7.5 and 9.6% to the contact angle and better anti-corrosive resistance, slowing the formation process of bubbles and to a lesser degree. The samples exposed to salt fog shown better tension of shear and deformation to all proportions of the nanofiller and in all of the climates to which were exposed, and after the test of cyclic aging the sample containing 1% of motmorillonite shown a better resistance to shear. The heterogeneous photocatalysis presents a proven effectiveness in several relevant technological applications. However, despite the efforts form scientific community, there are scarce commercial initiatives, where the photocatalyst separation from the reaction medium is still one of the main obstacles to its large-scale viability. As a proposed solution, this work main purpose was the preparation of active and stable polymeric composite films for the application in fixed bed photoreactors. To achieve this goal, the research was developed in four stages and all prepared materials were analyzed in their efficiency for photocatalytic discoloration of methylene blue in a batch reactor, cycles tests and characterizations by FTIR-ATR, XRD, SEM, TGA, DSC, porosity with n-butanol and BET area. In the first stage, the films were prepared using commercial photocatalysts TiO2 or ZnO, in addition to BiOI (synthesized through the solvothermal method) and matrices of poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) by solution mixing. The incorporation of all photocatalysts provided effective composites for heterogeneous photocatalysis. The greater efficiency, stability and reproducibility of ZnO composites led to its preference for continuity of this work. In the second stage, the preparation conditions of the PVDF/ZnO composites were evaluated using a Plackett Burman exploratory design strategy followed by the Rotational Central Composite Design (RCCD), which gave rise to predictive models. The factors photocatalyst mass and wet thickness were the most significant in the target molecule discoloration. It was also observed that the addition of a pore-forming agent, i.e. PVP, is an option that allows an increase in efficiency per gram of photocatalyst, due to the film porosity enhancement. Under optimized conditions, it was possible to obtain a 43% improvement in photocatalytic efficiency compared to previous preparations and a 186% increase in relation to photolysis. In the third stage, the previously prepared PVDF/ZnO composites were compared to the high shear and low shear melt blending techniques. For these materials, surface photocatalytic activity was also assessed by a photocatalytic activity indicator ink. As a result, the samples prepared by solution mixing showed a 2x greater decolorization efficiency and a 4x higher surface photoactivity than melt blending samples. The melted samples revealed a low porosity and the coating of the photocatalyst surface was also evident in the SEM analysis, which explains the low photocatalytic activity. In the fourth stage, the photocatalytic properties of the BiOI catalyst, an important visible light responsive material, was improved by developing the in situ one pot preparation technique. In addition to the comparison with the solvothermal preparation, the one pot preparation was improved by a RCCD strategy. Simultaneous precipitation proved to be an innovative, simple and scalable approach, which increased the photocatalytic activity of the PVDF/BiOI system by almost 30% compared to the solvothermal, proving an even more significant 3-fold increase in efficiency per gram of immobilized photocatalyst, even when compared to the suspended photocatalyst. The results were attributed to a better photocatalyst dispersion, smaller particle size and greater porosity, pore volume and surface area. Lastly, the most active films were also tested in a NETmix continuous flow reactor for the photodegradation of n-decane in the gas phase. Bismuth-based photocatalysts did not show photocatalytic efficiency in this process, apparently related to the preferential indirect mechanism of photocatalytic oxidation. In contrast, the ZnO composites were effective, proving that polymeric composites can be appropriate for several technological applications.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, CAPES Gold nanoparticle (AuNPs) functionality has been highlighted in several areas of knowledge in recent decades, including diagnostics, where factors such as dispersion and stability are directly related to the test performance, the study of different functionalization strategies is essential. The stabilization of the nanoparticles can be conducted through polymers adsorption in their surfaces, conferring the characteristics and properties of nanoparticles. In this context, the objective of this work was to stabilize and functionalize gold nanoparticles of different dimensions (20, 40 and 80 nm). Adsorption kinetics and mathematical models allowed the determination of optimal concentrations of the heterobifunctional polymer varieties employed. However, since the preparation of the equation that predicted the nanoparticle behavior of 20 nm was not possible, for the following steps this nanoparticle size was discarded. The enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was used as an alternative to gauge the efficiency of the different strategies. Initially the enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was employed as an alternative to gauge the efficiency of different strategies. Tests that evaluated the dispersion, the capture of the enzyme and the of the stability strategies by techniques as spectroscopy in the UV and visible region, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS) and zeta potential were conducted. 40 and 80 nm gold nanoparticles were modified with heterofunctional polyethylene glycol solutions (HS-PEG-NH2 3500 and 7500 g/mol) and subjected to four different functionalisation strategies (I and III with HS-PEG-NH2 3500, II and IV with HS-PEG-NH2 7500). In strategies I and II, the polymeric solutions were placed in contact with the solution of anti-HRP antibodies, followed by addition of the colloidal solutions. While in strategies III and IV, the colloidal solutions first come into contact with the polymer solutions and then conjugated to the antibodies. Solutions with concentrations of 30, 50, 100 and 200 ng / ml HRP were added to the resulting solutions. A superior yield and efficacy of strategies I and II were observed when compared to strategies III and IV, since the former had a capture capacity of up to 5 times when stabilized for 2 h and up to 6 times for 12 h. The reduction of the average diameter of the nanoparticles to these strategies was evident when compared with those measured for the standard solutions. Furthermore, the increase of the zeta potential values for the antibody/ PEG/ nanoparticle systems, indicates that a interaction between the antibody/PEG solutions and the nanoparticles was established. Regarding stability, even considering reduction in the enzyme capture capability, strategy II presented best dispersion of particles, capture of HRP and stability during different months of the trial for both nanoparticles of 40 and 80 nm. After initial HRP capture, experiments were performed using viral diagnostic kits (Bioclin Biolisa HCV and HIV) to verify if there was gain in sensitivity with the implementation of the nanoparticles. The strategy II was evaluated for 40 nm nanoparticles and the results demonstrated the ability to detect the presence of the antigen at 1000-fold lower than the positive response presented by the kit. In addition, the HIV kit was able to intensify the responses obtained in approximately 50%. The use of functionalized nanoparticles in capture and immunodiagnostic analysis tests proved to be an excellent strategy for increasing the sensitivity of the system

The use of AA7075 aluminum alloys in the aerospace industry is increasing due to its good mechanical, corrosive and thermal resistance and is ideal for parts that suffer from high stress. An efficient method in the corrosion protection of these substrates, which is a point to be improved, are the chromate layers. However, these processes are being abandoned due to the use of hexavalent chromium, which is carcinogenic. Thus, environmentally favorable alternatives are being studied, among them the organic-inorganic hybrid coatings obtained through the sol-gel process were presented as an ecologically correct and promising alternative. In addition, for excellent corrosion resistance, the hybrid film has to be combined with a good organic coating (paint) and, further, to meet technological innovation, which are embedded in nanostructured materials that improve various properties and are contributing greatly to the development of areas such as aerospace, as they act as a barrier against electromagnetic pollution. In this context, the aim of the present work was to obtain a hybrid film from a precursor consisting of the precursors silanes 3- (trimethoxysilylpropyl) methacrylate - C10H20O5Si) and TEOS (Tetraethoxysilane - C8H20O4Si) on the aluminum alloy AA7075, and after that, to obtain a combined system of polyurethane paint and carbon nanotube (CNT), aiming at the protection of aluminum alloys against corrosion and electromagnetic shielding. The work had a sequence of tests, starting from the part of the pretreatment (hybrid film) which had curing temperature variation and multiple layers that, after evaluating its results, which guided the best pre-treatment performance on the alloy AA7075 considering varied conditions, it was started to apply the organic coating on the hybrid film. The organic coating was applied over the same pre-treatment variations and the best combination of hybrid film and paint was evaluated, which were subjected to mechanical and salt spray tests. The results only of hybrid film and hybrid film plus paint tended to the same result, and the best results were for the same D120 application (double application of hybrid film cured at 120 °C). Three different types of carbon nanotubes were incorporated in a polyurethane-based resin and apllied on the substrate with the best hybrid film. The results showed that the CNT functionalized with the amine group (NH2) presented a good interaction with the PU resin, favoring the formation of a level and uniform film. The samples presented low electromagnetic performance; however, with emerging potential for electromagnetic shielding.

The final quality of the injection molded polymer products can be compromised due to the occurrence of residual stresses from the molding process, which can generate shrinkage and warpage, altering the final product dimensions. The determination of the residual stresses can be carried out by the hole-drilling method, which is not widely used for polymeric materials since it is standardized for metallic materials. Therefore, in order to evaluate the main parameters that influence in the dimensional change and in the residual stresses of the injection molded polypropylene, this report used computer simulation, thermal analysis, warpage and shrinkage measurements, tensile and impact strength tests and evaluation of the residual stresses by hole-drilling method. After molding, the specimens were submitted to three post-molding conditions (physical restraint + water, physical restraint + heating chamber, neutral). In the experimental tests, the molded specimens with lower packing pressure, as well as the ribbed molded showed greater warpage, which corroborated the computer simulations and the literature. In the post-molding conditions, it was observed that the smooth specimens submitted to the physical restraint + heating chamber showed lower warpage in relation to those that were not submitted to this condition. Regarding the shrinkage, for both geometries specimens, there were not significant variations of the averages. The thermal analysis presented lower crystallinity in the specimens with neutral post-molding condition in relation to the physical restraint + heating chamber condition. The residual stresses analysis concluded that ribbed specimens showed greater residual stresses than smooth specimens, which corroborates the literature which indicates higher concentration of residual stresses in complex geometries parts. Due to the residual stresses relief, smooth specimens with greater warpage showed lower residual stresses. It was observed that the physical restraint used to restrain warpage assisted the retention of residual stresses in the polymer structure. Therefore, considering the resources used in this study, it was showed that the warpage is related to the product geometry, to the process parameters, the post-molding conditions and the residual stress relief existing in the injection molded polypropylene structure.

Perioperative management of antithrombotic therapy in patients treated with coronary stents undergoing surgery remains poorly defined. Importantly, surgery represents a common reason for premature treatment discontinuation, which is associated with an increased risk in mortality and major adverse cardiac events. However, maintaining antithrombotic therapy to minimize the incidence of perioperative ischemic complications may increase the risk of bleeding complications. Although guidelines provide some recommendations with respect to the perioperative management of antithrombotic therapy, these have been largely developed according to the thrombotic risk of the patient and a definition of the hemorrhagic risk specific to each surgical procedure, key to defining the trade-off between ischemia and bleeding, is not provided. These observations underscore the need for a multidisciplinary collaboration among cardiologists, anesthesiologists, hematologists and surgeons to reach this goal. The present document is an update on practical recommendations for standardizing management of antithrombotic therapy management in patients treated with coronary stents (Surgery After Stenting 2) in various types of surgery according to the predicted individual risk of thrombotic complications against the anticipated risk of surgical bleeding complications. Cardiologists defined the thrombotic risk using a "combined ischemic risk" approach, while surgeons classified surgeries according to their inherent hemorrhagic risk. Finally, a multidisciplinary agreement on the most appropriate antithrombotic treatment regimen in the perioperative phase was reached for each surgical procedure. [resumo fornecido pelo autor] Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior, CAPES The use of long glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites has increased considerably in the last years. However, the mechanical properties of these materials are strongly dependent on their microstructure (orientation and fiber length) and, consequently, of the processing conditions used in this material. In the case of processing by injection molding, the high shear rates cause, at the same time, reduction of fiber length and fiber orientation on the flow direction, making the prediction of mechanical properties of the composite a difficult task. In this context, the aim of this work was to present a methodology to calculate the tensile strength of long glass fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites based only on the virtual microstructure estimated by injection simulation. The theoretical basis of this proposal is the Kelly and Tyson model to calculate the tensile strength of composites reinforced with discontinuous fibers, which was modified to use a probability distribution to represent the fibers lengths, in addition the use of the fiber orientation tensor elements. The proposed method also includes an indirect systematic to determine the interfacial resistance between the fibers and the matrix, and the rupture tension of the fibers too. The proposed methodology was evaluated in the composite of polyamide 6.6 reinforced by long glass fibers (50% in mass), which had its microstructure simulated with the help of Moldflow software, using the RSC and ARD-RSC models to estimate the fibers orientation, in addition to the model of Phelps et al to determine the fiber breakage during the injection molding. The mechanical properties of the composite studied, such as tensile and flexural strength, determined experimentally were compared with the theoretical results predicted by the presented methodology. Finally, the model proposed in this work was used to predict the mechanical strength of an automotive structural component (baluster support), and this result was compared with the experimental data of the mechanical tests performed on this component. The differences between the results presented by the proposed calculation methodology and the experimental results were below 15%. Compared to a traditional metal-framed baluster support, the TRFL composite molded support achieved a mass reduction of 30%.[resumo fornecido pelo autor]

This work evaluated the action of different vulcanization activators (phthalic and terephthalic acid) in comparison to stearic acid in the reaction with ZnO. In addition, sought to verify the possible reduction of the phr content of ZnO in NR-based elastomeric compounds since the release of Zn at different stages of the production process and elastomeric artifacts may cause toxicity to the aquatic environment. Elastomeric compounds were evaluated for rheometric, thermal, physicochemical and chemical properties, as well as mechanical properties after thermo-oxidative aging (7 and 14 days). The release of Zn in the leached extract was verified before and after the vulcanization and after the aging of 14 days. The formulations were developed by varying the phr contents of ZnO (0, 1, 3 and 5) maintaining other fixed components. The elastomeric compounds with different acids and phr contents of ZnO were evaluated by the rheometric, thermal (TG and DSC), morphological and mechanical properties, being these evaluated before and after the thermo-oxidative aging. Analysis of the Zn content of the leached extract was carried out before and after vulcanization and after the aging of the compounds for 14 days. As a result, in the rheometric properties, the compounds with terephthalic acid are shown to have lower t90 and ts1 results. The best results of mechanical properties were found in the compounds with stearic and terephthalic acid with ZnO. Phthalic and terephthalic acids are more reactive than stearic acid, requiring smaller amounts of acids to react with the contents of 1, 3 and 5 phr of ZnO added in the compounds. The compound containing 3 phr of ZnO and stearic acid presented the best combination of properties evaluated among the other compounds using this acid, besides showing an increase in the retention of density of crosslinks after the aging of 7 and 14 days, indicating, based on this study that it is possible to reduce the amount of this used in the elastomer industry. Finally, considering all the evaluated acids, the activation system that presented the best results, considering rheometric, mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, besides presenting the best behavior against thermo-oxidative aging, was with terephthalic acid and ZnO. The authors hope that AGORA, involving many of the world's leading experts, can actively raise awareness in health workers and can improve prescribing behavior in treating IAIs., 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published
