En aquest informe es descriuen les poblacions investigades des de l'Antropologia biològica i els resultats obtinguts durant quaranta anys de recerca. Es relaciona la diversitat biològica amb la història de les poblacions aquí estudiades: Catalunya, i especialment les poblacions de Barcelona, Pirineu de Lleida i Delta de l'Ebre; els aborígens i els colonitzadors de Patagònia austral i Terra del Foc; la mescla entre rapanuis i forans a l'Illa de Pasqua; endogàmia i consanguinitat a Ohanes de l'Alpujarra. També s'avalua a partir de la diversitat cranial el mite d'Aztlan dels asteques mexicans. I com han variat, amb els canvis seculars, els patrons de creixement, fertilitat i fecunditat a la població espanyola.

[EN] Our society is based on mobility, and its impulsive dynamics have important impacts on the territory that stress it and often alter its balances, and unfortunately sometimes irreversibly. These tensions have two relevant facets: population densities and temporality. The combination of these two factors paint a picture of territorial scenarios that are sometimes suggestive, but most often worrying, and which condition two phenomena that concern us in this monography: depopulation and overcrowding., [CA] La nostra societat està sustentada en la mobilitat, i les seves impulsives dinàmiques suposen importants impactes sobre el territori que el tensionen i sovint alteren el seus equilibris, i malauradament a vegades de manera irreversible. Aquestes tensions tenen dues facetes rellevants: les densitats poblacionals i la temporalitat. La combinació d'aquests dos factors dibuixen escenaris territorials en ocasions suggerents, però la majoria de vegades preocupants, i que condicionen dos fenòmens que ens ocupen en aquest monogràfic: el despoblament i la massificació.

Worldwide, the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) has become the most widely used measure of life satisfaction. Recently, an authorized Vietnamese-language version has been introduced. Using a convenience sample comprising community volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City (N = 1073), confirmatory support was found for the cross-national constancy of the one-dimensional structure underlying the SWLS. Corrected item–total polyserial correlations and Omega coefficient were satisfactory. Using multi-group confirmatory factor analysis, configural, metric, and scalar invariance of the SWLS factorial structure were tested by gender, age, marital status, income, and educational level. Strong evidence of scalar invariance was found for gender and education, on which relevant subgroups did not differ in terms of latent means. Partial scalar invariance was found for marital status (item 4 and 5) and income (item 4). Being involved in an intimate relationship or having a higher income were associated with higher latent means. Scalar invariance in relation to age was very poor. Accordingly, caution must be exerted when comparing age groups. A high SWLS score was predictive of good self-rated health. Implications of the findings are briefly discussed.

Programa de Doctorat: Ciències Experimentals i Tecnologies "Tesi per compendi d'articles" Les basses mediterrànies són ecosistemes amb un alt valor ecològic, que pateixen una forta regressió per les pressions antròpiques. No obstant això, l'atenció científica rebuda sempre ha estat molt escassa, i la majoria dels estudis ecològics s'han centrat en la seva biodiversitat, més que l'estructura de la mida corporal de les seves comunitats. Les comunitats planctòniques i les poblacions del peix endèmic i amenaçat Aphanius iberus (Valenciennes, 1846) es van analitzar en basses costaneres permanents salobres (Capítol 1 i 2) i en basses temporànies d'aigua dolça (Capítol 3). L'estructura de la mida es va estudiar mitjançant diferents mètriques de mida (índex de diversitat de mida, espectre de mida, longitud corporal mitjana) i es va aplicar a diferents escales ecològiques (grups funcionals, nivell de població, considerant més d'un nivell tròfic a la vegada), per esbrinar els principals factors ambientals i biòtics que determinaven l'estructura de mides de les comunitats i poblacions aquàtiques a les basses mediterrànies. Mediterranean ponds are ecosystems with a high ecological value, suffering a strong regression due to anthropogenic pressures. Notwithstanding, the received scientific attention has always been far lesser than other larger water bodies. Most ecological studies on Mediterranean ponds have focused on their biodiversity, but only to a lesser extent they have paid attention to the body size structure of their communities. Planktonic communities and populations of the endemic and threatened fish Aphanius iberus (Valenciennes, 1846) were analyzed in brackish permanent coastal ponds (Chapter 1 and 2) and in temporary freshwater ponds (Chapter 3). Size structure was studied using different size metrics (e.g., size diversity index, size spectrum, mean body length, etc.) and applied at different ecological scales (i.e., functional groups, population level, more than one trophic level together), to unravel which were the main environmental and biotic drivers shaping the size structure of aquatic communities and populations in Mediterranean ponds.

L’objectiu principal d’aquest estudi és l’anàlisi dels valors de la pressió intraocular o PIO, recollits en un establiment òptic d’un municipi de Catalunya. Els resultats s’analitzaran en funció de l’edat, el sexe, l’ètnia, el defecte refractiu, patologies prèvies, entre altres criteris a tenir en compte. Finalment compararem els resultats amb altres estudis semblants en l’àmbit sanitari i estudis publicats en la literatura científica. El mètode de realització d’aquest treball és fomenta en un estudi on l’establiment Òptica Andorrana i la Facultat d’Òptica i Optometria de Terrassa (FOOT) col·laboren perquè l’estudiant realitzi les pràctiques externes del seu treball final de grau (TFG). En aquest establiment d’òptica es va realitzar la presa de dades, on es va utilitzar un tonòmetre d’aire. La mostra final consta de 180 pacients d’aquest establiment que van estar d’acord amb la participació d’aquest estudi. Les dades que vam obtenir van ser analitzades amb el programa MiniTab, per així poder fer una estadística comparativa. Conclusions. S'han trobat diferències significatives entre els valores de pressió entre l'ull dret (OD) i ho ull Esquerre (OI). En pacients majors de 50 anys és on trobem uns valores de PIO més baixos. Quant a la diferència entre les diferents ètnies, destaquen els valores baixos dels pacients asiàtics. Finalment, centrant-nos en l'estat refractiva dels pacients, els miops de dos o més diòptries la seva els que acostumen a tenir un valor de PIO inferior

L'aplicació va destinada, sobretot, a petits nuclis urbans que no disposen d'eines per gestionar el seu municipi d'una manera estreta i bidireccional amb els seus ciutadans. El meu propòsit ha estat crear uns fonaments perquè més endavant pugui continuar creixent. De moment, l'aplicació en si disposa de tres mòduls utilitzables pels usuaris: alertes, esdeveniments i comunicats. Per a la part administrativa, també disposa d'un gestor de correus des d'on s'envien totes les alertes als usuaris i administradors. The application is above all destined to small city centres that do not have the tools to manage their municipality in a close and bidirectional way with their citizens. My aim was to create a basis in order that with the time the application could keep growing. At the moment, the app itself has three modules that can be used by the users: alerts, events and announcements. For the administrative part, it also has a mail manager system from which all alerts are sent to users and administrators. La aplicación va destinada, sobre todo, a pequeños núcleos urbanos que no disponen de herramientas para gestionar su municipio de una manera estrecha y bidireccional con sus ciudadanos. Mi propósito ha sido crear unos cimientos para que más adelante pueda seguir creciendo. De momento, la aplicación en sí dispone de tres módulos utilizables por los usuarios: alertas, eventos y comunicados. Para la parte administrativa, también dispone de un gestor de correos desde donde se envían todas las alertas a los usuarios y administradores.

After the deep economic crisis that began in 2008, in 2014, Spain started to show signs of recovery, entering the so-called “post-crisis” period. Though it has not yet reached the entire population, economic improvement has had a positive impact on the real estate market, economic activity, and employment. Residential mobility has also increased, but flows have become more unstable and complex. The direction of these flows, the reasons for moving, and the ages and socioeconomic categories of migrants have diversified. These complex “new mobility” patterns are reconfiguring the spatial distribution of the population in Spanish urban areas. On the basis of Continuous Register (Padrón Continuo) microdata, this paper primarily aims to study population changes in the 69 Spanish functional urban areas (FUAs) defined by the National Institute of Statistics (INE)/Eurostat, focusing on their population growth or decline in their centers and peripheries during the crisis (2011–2015) and post-crisis (2015–2019) phases. Then, the paper analyzes the five major Spanish metropolises (Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, and Bilbao) in greater depth. The findings confirm the hypothesis that, during the post-crisis period, the population growth of cores and rings and thus the spatial distribution of urban inhabitants have been changing, resulting in the growing demographic heterogeneity of Spanish urban areas that are diversifying both internally and compared to each other.

El sorgiment de noves professions com la dels creadors de contingut comporta l'elaboració de noves eines i, és aquí on entra en joc el nostre treball. Per poder arribar al nostre públic objectiu és essencial conèixer en profunditat les diferents societats, però malauradament, no s'inverteix suficientment en investigació. Així doncs, aquesta tesi desitja aportar una visió global de la societat britànica i nord-americana i les seves principals diferències, per poder comprendre de ple les cultures i els sistemes socials. El treball consisteix fonamentalment en analitzar i comparar alguns dels temes amb més rellevància, els quals hi són desglossats en tres seccions: lingüística, cultural i social. Para poder llegar al público objetivo es esencial tener un profundo conocimiento de las sociedades, pero lamentablemente, no se invierte lo suficiente en investigación. Así pues, esta tesis pretende aportar una visión global de la sociedad británica y estadounidense y sus principales diferencias, para una mayor comprensión de las culturas y los sistemas sociales. El trabajo consiste fundamentalmente en analizar y comparar algunos de los temas más trascendentales, los cuales están desglosados en tres secciones: lingüística, cultural y social. The rise of new occupations such as content creators entails the creation of new tools, and there is where our paper comes into action. Deep knowledge of societies is essential to reach the target public, but unfortunately, there is not enough investment in research. Therefore, this dissertation aims to provide an overall view of British and American societies and their main differences for a further understanding of their culture and social system. Some of the most crucial topics are analysed and compared to each society. And they are mainly divided in three sections: linguistic, cultural and social.

El artículo parte del concepto de sistema residencial. Implica la interrelación entre la inserción residencial y la dimensiones social y demográfica de los hogares. Se han estudiado la asociación relativa de distintos rasgos residenciales a diferentes dimensiones demográficas de los hogares. Estas dimensiones demográficas son la edad de la persona principal, la tipología familiar y el tamaño demográfico del municipio donde reside el hogar. Las dimensiones residenciales que se han escogido en este artículo son la tenencia de la vivienda, el número de plantas del edificio en que se ubica, el año de construcción del edificio y la superficie de la vivienda. L'article parteix del concepte de sistema residencial. Implica la interrelació entre la inserció residencial i la dimensió social i demogràfica de les llars. S'han estudiat l'associació relativa de diferents trets residencials a diferents dimensions demogràfiques de les llars. Aquestes dimensions demogràfiques són l'edat de la persona principal, la tipologia de la família i la grandària demogràfica del municipi on resideix la llar. Les dimensions residencials que s'han escollit en aquest article són la tinença de l'habitatge, el nombre de plantes de l'edifici on es troba, l'any de constricció de l'edifici i la superfícies de l'habitatge. This paper focuses on the concept of residential system, which implies the interrelation between households' housing behavior and social and demographic dimensions. Relative association between several housing characteristics and some households' demographic dimensions has been explored. These demographic dimensions are age of household's first person, household structure and size of the residence locality. Housing dimensions included in this paper are first dwelling tenure, number of floors of the building, building's cohort and dwelling surface.

El desequilibri entre població i territori, encara que de notable actualitat és la conseqüència d'un llarg i complex procés secular que ha afectat des de fa més d'un segle el conjunt de les terres catalanes de l'interior i, especialment, la comarca de Berguedà.

Encara són nombrosos i basics els interrogants relatius a l'evolució historica dels components del creixement demogràfic de la població catalana. No cal assenyalar que la persistencia d'aquestes preguntes té l'origen, entre altres causes immediates, en les dificultats per a disposar del conjunt de dades necessaries per a confeccionar els indicadors demografics més adients. Tanmateix, són les limitacions característiques de la llarga etapa pre-estadística. Aquestes circumstancies condicionen, doncs, l'actual coneixement fragrnentari i limitat del paper d'aquells components del creixement, un dels quals és la mortalitat. La recerca sobre el comportament historic d'aquest fenomen ha tendit a subratllar de manera gairebé constant dos aspectes (Iglésies 1961; 1965-67; Vilar 1973; Nadal 1978). El primer, el manteniment a la població catalana del passat d'un nivell elevat de mortalitat, és a dir, dominat per taxes brutes superiors al 30 %, molt properes a les experimentades per altres regions de la Península Iberica i de la Mediterrania occidental. El segon, que, tot i que a partir del darrer quart del segle XVIII la població podria haver-se beneficiat de reduccions constants i moderades d'aquell nivell, no fou fins a la segona meitat del segle XIX que minva d'una manera significativa

An innovative reflection about measurement is proposed through Franck and Hertz experiment for second year University students. We present a sequence of laboratory work during which the students have the opportunity of deepening notions like dispersion, error and uncertainty, accuracy and precision, and some concepts of statistics. We describe how students are led to develop personal comments on their own results.

Fear of the coronavirus has important implications on mental health. In western countries, a significant degree of vaccination has been achieved, but in Spain, less than 75% of the population has received both doses. The current situation is still seen as a threat by many people. Therefore, it is important to have reliable and valid measurement instruments to assess the impact of COVID-19 on the population. In this study, the Fear of COVID-19 Scale has been adapted to Spain, and its psychometric properties have been studied in a Spanish sample using Structural Equation Modeling. This methodology allows obtaining more reliable estimates, regardless of the measurement scale of the variables. The unifactorial structure was confirmed. The correlations with Neuroticism were statistically significant, and the concurrent validity structural equation model yielded good fit indices. However, neither age nor belonging to a risk group directly predict fear of the coronavirus in this sample, but gender and neuroticism are direct predictors. Likewise, neuroticism mediates the relationship between age and fear of COVID-19, and between gender and fear of COVID-19. So being young and being a woman show high scores on neuroticism, leading to their most intense fear of COVID-19. With this reliable and valid measurement instrument, it will be possible to assess the degree of fear of the coronavirus in the Spanish population and improve psychological interventions.

Objective: This study examines health care utilization of immigrants relative to the native-born populations aged 50 years and older in eleven European countries. Methods. We analyzed data from the Survey of Health Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) from 2004 for a sample of 27,444 individuals in 11 European countries. Negative Binomial regression was conducted to examine the difference in number of doctor visits, visits to General Practitioners (GPs), and hospital stays between immigrants and the native-born individuals. Results: We find evidence those immigrants above age 50 use health services on average more than the native-born populations with the same characteristics. Our models show immigrants have between 6% and 27% more expected visits to the doctor, GP or hospital stays when compared to native-born populations in a number of European countries. Discussion: Elderly immigrant populations might be using health services more intensively due to cultural reasons.

El estudio de las poblaciones no es algo reciente y se realizan estudios frecuentemente de estas, ya que es algo de real interés para todos, tanto para las personas como para especialmente los gobiernos. Para estos últimos es algo de capital importancia ya que sus políticas deben ir enfocadas a satisfacer las necesidades básicas de la población, por tanto, conocer que pasara con una población en el futuro es necesario para saber si los gobiernos serán capaces de satisfacer estas necesidades. Como se trata de un tema importante y que me parece interesante, en este trabajo he decido conocer como llevan a cabo los gobiernos estas proyecciones. Pero en lugar de enfocarlo en un país, el foco de interés han sido los continentes y el mundo. Por tanto, ha sido necesario conocer la evolución poblacional de los diferentes continentes y las variables de interés que describen esta evolución a lo largo del tiempo. Una vez conocidos, ya se han podido modelizar las diferentes poblaciones y realizar proyecciones para la década de 2010-2020 para poder comparar con datos reales y ver que modelo se ajusta más a la realidad. L'estudi de les poblacions no és una cosa recent i es realitzen estudis freqüentment d'aquestes, ja que és una cosa de real interès per a tots, tant per les persones com per especialment els governs. Per a aquests últims és una cosa de cabdal importància ja que les seves polítiques han d'anar enfocades a satisfer les necessitats bàsiques de la població, per tant, conèixer que passara amb una població en el futur és necessari per saber si els governs seran capaços de satisfer aquestes necessitats. Com es tracta d'un tema important i que em sembla interessant, en aquest treball he decidit conèixer com duen a terme els governs aquestes projeccions. Però en lloc d'enfocar-ho en un país, el focus d'interès han estat els continents i el món. Per tant, ha estat necessari conèixer l'evolució poblacional dels diferents continents i les variables d'interès que descriuen aquesta evolució al llarg de el temps. Un cop coneguts, ja s'han pogut modelitzar les diferents poblacions i realitzar projeccions per a la dècada 2010-2020 per a poder comparar amb dades reals i veure quin model s'ajusta més a la realitat. The study of populations is not something recent and studies of these are frequently carried out, since it is something of real interest to everyone, both for people and especially for governments. For the latter it is something of capital importance since their policies must be focused on satisfying the basic needs of the population, therefore, knowing what will happen to a population in the future is necessary to know if governments will be able to satisfy these needs. As it is an important topic and one that I find interesting, in this work I have decided to learn how governments carry out these projections. But instead of focusing on one country, the focus of interest has been the continents and the world. Therefore, it has been necessary to know the population evolution of the different continents and the variables of interest that describe this evolution over time. Once known, it has already been possible to model the different populations and make projections for the decade 2010-2020 to be able to compare with real data and see which model is more in line with reality.

The knowledge of the genetic variability of the local population is of utmost importance in personalized medicine and has been revealed as a critical factor for the discovery of new disease variants. Here, we present the Collaborative Spanish Variability Server (CSVS), which currently contains more than 2000 genomes and exomes of unrelated Spanish individuals. This database has been generated in a collaborative crowdsourcing effort collecting sequencing data produced by local genomic projects and for other purposes. Sequences have been grouped by ICD10 upper categories. A web interface allows querying the database removing one or more ICD10 categories. In this way, aggregated counts of allele frequencies of the pseudo-control Spanish population can be obtained for diseases belonging to the category removed. Interestingly, in addition to pseudo-control studies, some population studies can be made, as, for example, prevalence of pharmacogenomic variants, etc. In addition, this genomic data has been used to define the first Spanish Genome Reference Panel (SGRP1.0) for imputation. This is the first local repository of variability entirely produced by a crowdsourcing effort and constitutes an example for future initiatives to characterize local variabilityworldwide. Current tools for motif discovery search patterns that are over-represented in DNA sequences but do not use DNA curvature or cofactors associated with the protein bind. We developed a tool that searches for motifs with a variable gap between patterns. The search is done using a genetic programming algorithm that searches for possible models that could be the motif and tries to fit them in a set of positive sequences with the motif against a control dataset. To evaluate the fitness of the organisms we have created an energy model for each component of the regulated bacterial promoters. The final genetic algorithm is able to find hidden motifs in synthetic sequences and real biological sequences. Les eines actuals per al descobriment de motius busquen patrons que estan sobre-representats a les seqüències d'ADN, però no utilitzen la curvatura de l'ADN o cofactors associats a la unió de la proteïna. Hem desenvolupat una eina que busca motius amb un espaiador variable entre patrons. La cerca es fa mitjançant un algorisme de programació genètica que busca possibles models que podrien ser el motiu i intenta encaixar-los en un conjunt de seqüències positives que inclouen el motiu envers un conjunt de seqüències de control. Per avaluar l'encaix dels organismes hem creat un model d'energia per a cada component dels promotors reguladors bacterians. L'algorisme genètic final és capaç de trobar motius ocults a seqüències sintètiques i seqüències reals. Las herramientas actuales para el descubrimiento de motivos buscan patrones que están sobrerepresentados en las secuencias de ADN, pero no usan la curvatura del ADN o cofactores asociados a la unión de la proteína. Hemos desarrollado una herramienta que busca motivos con un espaciado variable entre patrones. La búsqueda se hace mediante un algoritmo de programación genética que busca posibles modelos que podrían ser el motivo y los intenta encajar en un conjunto de secuencias positivas que incluyen el motivo contra un conjunto de secuencias de control. Para evaluar el encaje de los organismos, hemos creado un modelo de energía para cada componente de los promotores reguladores bacterianos. El algoritmo genético final es capaz de encontrar motivos ocultos en secuencias sintéticas y secuencias reales.

En concreto, la interacción de los factores demográficos, de propiedad de la tierra y de la conformación social propia y específica de El Royo. Se ha realizado partiendo de la hipótesis de que el modelo de negocio implementado en El Royo está directa y estrechamente relacionado con el desarrollo de la despoblación y de los cambios en la propiedad y el uso de la tierra. Será fundamental un análisis histórico para entender los acontecimientos presentes acaecidos en el pueblo., [eng] This research analyzes the processes that have been taking place during the project “Bosque Soria, sabores de altura”. Specifically, it focuses on the interaction of demographic factors, land ownership, and the social structures of El Royo. The research hypothesis states that the business model implemented in the village El Royo is directly and closely related to the development of the depopulation and changes in land ownership and use. Therefore, a historical analysis will be fundamental to understand the present events developing in the village.

El sida es una enfermedad infecciosa-contagiosa que se expande rápidamente a través de las poblaciones (sobre todo pobres y vulnerables) a pesar de los debates por solucionarla.El objetivo principal es desvelar cómo la falta de información y conocimiento sobre el VIH/SIDA en el país de Congo -dónde hay más número de casos- y la carencia de las ayudas de todo tipo estarían en la base de una cierta política demográfica malthusiana. Tras un estudio estadístico descriptivo sobre datos del VIH/SIDA de la ONU y cruce con información cualitativa de las zonas sanitarias de Congo; de diferentes informes del PNMLS [1], de la ONUSIDA[2] y de otros organismos, se observa desinformación a la población, falta de cuidados a sus víctimas y a sus familias. Los datos pueden estar evidenciando un cierto control de la población y familia. The main objective of this article is to reveal how the lack of information about HIV / AIDS at the Congo -the country where there are more number of cases -and the lack of aid of all kinds, would be in the base of the public policies with a clear malthusian perspective. Design and objectivesA cross-sectional study to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the psychosocial sphere in both the general population and healthcare workers (HCWs).MethodsThe study was conducted in Catalonia (Spain) during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic when strict lockdown was in force. The study population included all people aged over 16 years who consented to participate in the study and completed the survey, in this case a 74-question questionnaire shared via social media using snowball sampling. A total of 56 656 completed survey questionnaires were obtained between 3 and 19 April 2020.The primary and secondary outcome measures included descriptive statistics for the non-psychological questions and the psychological impact of the pandemic, such as depression, anxiety, stress and post-traumatic stress disorder question scores.ResultsA n early and markedly negative impact on family finances, fear of working with COVID-19 patients and ethical issues related to COVID-19 care among HCWs was observed. A total of seven target groups at higher risk of impaired mental health and which may therefore benefit from an intervention were identified, namely women, subjects aged less than 42 years, people with a care burden, socioeconomically deprived groups, people with unskilled or unqualified jobs, patients with COVID-19 and HCWs working with patients with COVID-19.ConclusionsActive implementation of specific strategies to increase resilience and to prepare an adequate organisational response should be encouraged for the seven groups identified as high risk and susceptible to benefit from an intervention.Trial registration numberNCT04378452.
