Homelessness represents an incredibly damaging and challenging reality across the United States; of the 588,000 homeless in this country, 33,000 are military Veterans. Homelessness among Veterans is intensified by afflictions of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Suicide Ideations, Moral Injuries, and Substance Abuse. The purpose of this DMIN action project was to establish a discipleship program to develop disciples among homeless Veterans to reduce their homeless rates. The objectives of this project were to bring homeless Veterans to Jesus, decrease Veteran homelessness, establish ongoing relationships with homeless Veterans, assist homeless Veterans in overcoming specific factors impacting their continued homelessness, instill an atmosphere of inclusion and care among homeless Veterans, and provide biblically-based mentorship and guidance to homeless Veterans through discipleship. Homeless Veterans and support staff from outreach organizations that met specific criteria participated in the project. Surveys provided to homeless Veterans focused on the occurrence rate and impacts of PTSD, TBI, Moral Injuries, and Substance Abuse. Questionnaires given to homeless Veterans and support staff participants centered on the “why” of the question of homelessness. Roundtable discussions with homeless Veterans concentrated on Spiritual Warfare, Suicide Ideations, and the previous subjects of PTSD, TBI, Moral Injuries, and Substance Abuse. Substance Abuse was shown to be the most widespread of the ailments afflicting homeless Veterans. The encouraging results of this project indicate that a Jesus-centric ministry approach to engaging homeless Veterans through a dedicated discipleship program can produce positive, realistic outcomes for Veterans suffering from chronic homelessness.

We identified and isolated a novel Hendra virus (HeV) variant not detected by routine testing from a horse in Queensland, Australia, that died from acute illness with signs consistent with HeV infection. Using whole-genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis, we determined the variant had ≈83% nt identity with prototypic HeV. In silico and in vitro comparisons of the receptor-binding protein with prototypic HeV support that the human monoclonal antibody m102.4 used for postexposure prophylaxis and current equine vaccine will be effective against this variant. An updated quantitative PCR developed for routine surveillance resulted in subsequent case detection. Genetic sequence consistency with virus detected in grey-headed flying foxes suggests the variant circulates at least among this species. Studies are needed to determine infection kinetics, pathogenicity, reservoir-species associations, viral-host coevolution, and spillover dynamics for this virus. Surveillance and biosecurity practices should be updated to acknowledge HeV spillover risk across all regions frequented by flying foxes. © 2022 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Objectives: To ascertain Australian multistate prevalence and incidence of five commonly collected clinical indicators of aged-care home quality and to measure associations between these clinical indicators and levels of care needs and consumer and staff satisfaction. Methods: A retrospective analysis of national audit data collected from 426 facilities between 2015 and 2016 was performed. Regression models were used to examine associations between five clinical indicators (falls, pressure injury, physical restraint, unplanned weight loss and polypharmacy) and level of care needs measured by the Aged Care Funding Instrument (ACFI) and consumer and care staff survey responses. Results: With the exception of polypharmacy, commonly collected negative clinical outcomes were rare events. Compared with care homes with <25% of residents having high-level care needs (high ACFI), homes with 25<75% high-ACFI residents had more occurrences of all negative clinical outcomes except pressure injury. Homes with ≥75% high-ACFI residents reported the highest rates of polypharmacy (odds ratio 1.48, 95% confidence interval 1.39-1.57). Falls, unplanned weight loss and pressure injury were inversely associated with satisfaction scores adjusted for residents' level of care needs. Conclusions: This first Australian study of multistate clinical indicator data suggests interpretation of clinical indicators of aged-care home quality requires consideration of the level of residents' care needs. We are developing an inexpensive compact accelerator system primarily intended for pulsed radiography. Design characteristics are an 8 MeV endpoint energy, 2 kA beam current, a cell gradient of approximately 3 MV/m (for an overall accelerator length is 2-3 m), and $1/Volt capital costs. Such designs have been made possible with the development of high specific energy dielectrics (10J/cm3), specialized transmission line designs and multi-gap laser triggered low jitter (1 ns) gas switches. In this geometry, the pulse forming lines, switches, and insulator/beam pipe are fully integrated within each cell to form a compact, stand-alone, stackable unit. An investigation of the interaction of electrostatic waves launched by a slow wave structure with a magnetized plasma is made. The characteristics of the electrostatic waves and the electron dynamics are studied experimentally. Of primary experimental interest is the measurement of the electron energy distribution and the rf-induced electron flux along the background magnetic field. This interest is motivated by a need for a more complete understanding of interaction of plasma with a slow wave electrostatic field which is of importance for rf-heating and rf dc current drive in plasmas.

Essentially five topics were studied during this time period; three are essentially experimental investigations, and the other two are theoretical in nature. The five topics include: 1) Propagation of microwaves along a plasma column and harmonic generation of electrostatic ion cyclotron waves, 2) Imploding tube experiment, 3) RF Generated Current in a Magnetized Plasma Using a Slow Wave Structure, 4) Wave-Particle interaction at cyclotron resonances, and 5) Turbulent interaction between waves and charged particles., See also report dated 1 Sep 80, AD-A105 027.

The report is divided into two parts. The first part provides a description of expected trends in transportation for both passenger and freight movements for the next 30 years. The second part describes a methodology for forecasting, at an aggregate level of detail and as a function of time value, out of pocket costs and trip distance, the modal split of passengers in a forecast year between 1975-2000. The second part also describes the use of the methodology to examine the probable effects of emphasizing the development of one technology over another. There are also 4 Appendices. Appendix 1 describes a 1965 Passenger Mile Data Base Table, as a function of mode and trip distance. Appendix 2 similarly describes a 1965 Commodity Ton-Mile Data Base Table. Appendix 3 describes the results of a Delphi Forecasting Exercise and Appendix 4 describes the parameters used to define each system used in the modal split.
