5. Limitation of the load angle in a direct-torque-controlled synchronous machine drive

Abstract

The basic direct torque control (DTC) principle is to rotate the flux linkage forward, if the torque must be increased, and reverse, if the forque must be decreased. The torque is, however, increased only up to a maximum torque of the machine, which corresponds to a load angle of about 90[degrees] in a synchronous machine. This paper presents a method to overcome the possible loss of synchronism when using DTC. This requires either that the rotor angle is measured or estimated. Both of these cases are considered. Simulation and laboratory results are presented to show the effectiveness of the presented method. Index Terms--Estimation, rotating machine stability, synchronous motor drives.

Abstract

The work focuses on experimental and theoretical examination of the influence of the distortion signals generated by the inverter and the active magnetic bearing (AMB) dc link voltage on an AMB control system. These low-frequency disturbances may result in performance degradation or lead to an unstable system. The analysis and measurements are performed on an AMB system controlled by an H ∞ controller. The studied signals include positions and currents in 5DOF, AMB dc link voltage, drive currents, and acceleration of the stator frame.

14. Pseudo random binary signal for MIMO frequency response identification of a magnetically levitated rotor system

Abstract

High-speed machine technology with magnetically levitated rotor systems has become interesting solution in modern compressor, pump and turbo applications. Often, the commissioning of such machines is system identification-based with injected artificially generated excitation. In this paper a statistically uncorrelated PRBS design is proposed for multi-input multi-output MIMO system that gives the possibility to utilize same PRBS signal for all inputs. The proposed routine is validated with an experimental high-speed generator with active magnetic bearings (AMBs). The obtained frequency responses are validated by comparing the results with the mathematical model.
