BACKGROUND: Ambulatory access to academic medical centers (AMCs) for patients insured with Medi-Cal (i.e., Medicaid in California) is understudied, particularly among the 85% of beneficiaries enrolled in managed care plans. As more AMCs develop partnerships with these plans, data on patient experiences of access to care and quality are needed to guide patient-centered improvements in care delivery. METHODS: The authors conducted semi-structured, qualitative interviews with Medi-Cal-insured patients with initial visits at a large, urban AMC during 2022. Participant recruitment was informed by a database of ambulatory Medi-Cal encounters. The interview guide covered Medi-Cal enrollment, scheduling, and visit experience. Interviews were transcribed and inductively coded, then organized into themes across four domains: access, affordability, patient-provider interactions, and continuity. RESULTS: Twenty participant interviews were completed (55% female, 85% English speaking, 80% self-identified minority or other race, and 30% Hispanic or Latino) with primary and/or specialty care visits. Within the access domain, participants reported delays with Medi-Cal enrollment and access to specialist care or testing, though appointment scheduling was reported to be easy. Affordability concerns included out-of-pocket medical and parking costs, and missed income when patients or families skipped work to facilitate care coordination. Participants considered clear, bilateral communication with providers fundamental to positive patient-provider interactions. Some participants perceived discrimination by providers based on their insurance status. Participants valued continuity, but experienced frustration arising from frequent and unexpected health plan changes that disrupted care with their established AMC providers. CONCLUSIONS: The missions of AMCs typically focus on clinical care, education, research, and equity. However, reports from Medi-Cal insured patients receiving care at AMCs highlight their stress and confusion related to inconsistent provider access, uncompensated costs, variability in perceptions of quality, and fragmented care. Recommendations based upon patient-reported concerns suggest opportunities for AMC health system-level improvements that are compatible with AMC missions.

BackgroundA longer duration of untreated psychosis (DUP) is associated with poorer treatment outcomes. Screening for psychosis spectrum disorders in the primary care setting could help support the earlier detection and treatment of individuals in need. However, the acceptability of screening for psychosis in this setting as part of routine care is currently unknown.MethodsWe conducted a qualitative interview study with providers and service users who participated in an early psychosis screening program conducted in an integrated behavioral health primary care (IBH-PC) setting. Interviews were recruited from one of eight WellSpace Federally Qualified Health Center IBH-PC clinics in the Sacramento, CA area. Transcripts of the recorded interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis.ResultsIn total, 12 providers and eight service users participated in the interviews. Most service user and provider participants were supportive of psychosis screening in an IBH-PC setting, but not as part of the general practitioner consultation due to the brief, non-behavioral health nature of many of the appointments, and the expected low prevalence of psychosis in this population. The support of leadership, adequate training and support, staff turnover, and organizational changes were all seen to impact the successful implementation of the program. Different barriers and facilitators were considered important at each stage of the process from introducing the screening procedures to service users; to determining when, where, and how to screen; and how to effectively manage the referral and post-referral stages.ConclusionsDespite the additional challenges of screening in an IBH-PC setting relative to secondary mental health services, the process was considered acceptable and feasible to providers and service users. Services that plan to conduct psychosis screening in their clinics need to consider the challenges and their potential solutions to implementation at each stage of the screening process.

Background: Outcome measures are crucial to support a treat-to-target approach to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) care, yet their integration into clinical practice remains inconsistent. We developed an Electronic Heath Record-integrated, patient-facing side-car application to display RA outcomes (disease activity, functional status, pain scores), medications, and lab results during clinical visits ("RA PRO Dashboard"). The study aimed to evaluate patient perceptions and attitudes towards the implementation of a novel patient-facing dashboard during clinical visits using a mixed-methods approach. Methods: RA patients whose clinicians used the dashboard at least once during their clinical visit were invited to complete a survey regarding its usefulness in care. We also conducted semi-structured interviews with a subset of patients to assess their perceptions of the dashboard. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed thematically using deductive and inductive techniques. Emerging themes and subthemes were organized into four domains of the Ecological Model of Health. Results: Out of 173 survey respondents, 79% were interested in seeing the dashboard again at a future visit, 71% felt it improved their understanding of their disease, and 65% believed it helped with decision-making about their RA care. Many patients reported that the dashboard helped them discuss their RA symptoms (76%) and medications (72%) with their clinician. Interviews with 29 RA patients revealed 10 key themes: the dashboard was perceived as a valuable visual tool that improved patients' understanding of RA outcome measures, enhanced their involvement in care, and increased their trust in clinicians and the clinic. Common reported limitations included concerns about reliability of RA outcome questionnaires for some RA patients and inconsistent collection and explanation of these measures by clinicians. Conclusions: In both the quantitative and qualitative components of the study, patients reported that the dashboard improved their understanding of their RA, enhanced patient-clinician communication, supported shared decision-making, and increased patient engagement in care. These findings support the use of dashboards or similar data visualization tools in RA care and can be used in future interventions to address challenges in data collection and patient education. Background: At present, there are no specific guidelines for the treatment of diabetes in palliative care in Norway. The aim of this study was therefore to explore healthcare professionals' experiences of providing palliative care to individuals with diabetes in specialist as well as primary care settings. Methods: We interviewed 12 healthcare professionals from two palliative care units in specialist healthcare, one hospice unit in a nursing home, and one dietary care unit providing counselling in the municipality in the eastern part of Norway. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results: Our analysis generated three main themes: 1) "Quality of life is the main focus", which showed that the healthcare professionals' main focus was on comforting patients through engagement and communication; 2) "An individualized approach", emphasizing that the treatment was tailored to the unique circumstances of each individual and considered factors such as life expectancy, difficult blood glucose control, and multidisciplinary collaboration, and 3) "Diabetes in the background", which highlighted that they had a modest focus on diabetes. Diabetes was seen as another aspect of health that they had to be aware of, but their limited knowledge of diabetes guidelines, technical tools, and treatment choices underscored that attentiveness to the diabetes treatment was not prominent. Conclusion: The findings show that a lack of guidelines allowed for diverse approaches to the treatment of patients with diabetes in palliative care. Background: Advance research directives (ARDs) provide a promising way to involve individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in research decisions before they lose the capacity to consent. At the same time, the views of people with MCI on ARDs are underexplored. This study assesses the perceptions of people with MCI and family members on the benefits and challenges associated with ARDs. Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the perspectives of individuals with MCI and family members of individuals with MCI on ARDs. We focus specifically on willingness to participate in nontherapeutic research, understanding of ARDs and the ethical considerations involved. Methods: Thirteen open-ended, face-to-face interviews were conducted using a semi-structured format. Seven interviews were conducted with individuals with MCI, and six with family members of individuals with MCI. The narratives were transcribed verbatim and qualitative content analysis was carried out. Results: Research participation and ARDs were viewed positively, largely based on altruistic motives and the desire to contribute to society. The participants recognized the potential advantages of ARDs in reducing the decision-making burden on family members and maintaining personal autonomy. They also highlighted challenges in comprehending ARDs and navigating the complexities surrounding potential conflicts between current preferences versus preferences described in an ARD.Conclusions: ARDs were predominantly seen as valuable instruments that enable individuals with MCI to participate in research. This study provides insights into the reasons why affected individuals are interested in drafting ARDs. These insights can guide the development of supportive interventions that are tailored to assist individuals with MCI and their families in navigating ARD processes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Compulsive exercise is common in eating disorders (EDs), but a systematic treatment model is lacking. The CompuLsive Exercise Activity TheraPy (LEAP) is a cognitive behavioral therapy treatment for compulsive exercise in EDs, delivered by trained therapists in groups over four consecutive weeks (8 groupsessions and 1 individual session), aiming to promote healthy physical activity. LEAP is currently evaluated in a randomized efficacy trial. In parallel, it is crucial to learn more about how it is perceived by qualitatively investigating participants' subjective experiences. Methods: Nine patients with various EDs participating in the LEAP trial were interviewed about their experiences of taking part in LEAP and about compulsive exercise as an ED symptom using a semi-structured interview guide. The interview transcripts were analyzed according to thematic analysis. Results: The informants expressed that compulsive exercise had not been addressed in their standard ED treatment and that LEAP as such provided an important complement, spurring reflection, awareness, and changed feelings and behaviors in relation to compulsive exercise. Initially, increased PA was triggered for some, but this side effect was transitory. A wish for more treatment time, in terms of longer or additional sessions, was expressed. Conclusions: Overall, LEAP seemed to fill an important treatment need and seemed both acceptable and feasible to patients. However, treatment time and the initial increase in PA may need further investigation and attention in order to optimize this treatment. Plain English summary: Compulsive exercise (CE) is very common in individuals with eating disorders (EDs) often tightly connected with the eating pathology. Even so, most standard treatments do not specifically target CE, leaving patients without strategies to normalize their exercise. The CompuLsive Exercise Activity TheraPy (LEAP) is delivered as an adjunctive treatment to standard ED treatment (targeting CE in patients with EDs. In this study, nine former LEAP patients were interviewed about their experiences of taking part in LEAP and about CE as an ED symptom. The informants were in general satisfied with LEAP and indicated that participation had positive effects on their exercise-related thoughts and attitudes, as well as actual exercise behaviors. They all experienced that CE was not addressed in their standard treatment, although they were motivated to work towards changing it. LEAP was therefore viewed as an important complement. Participating in LEAP initially triggered some informants to exercise more, which fortunately ceased over time and is similar to the temporal negative effect (increased food occupation) often observed initially in cognitive behavioral therapy for eating disorders. The content of LEAP was experienced as valid, informative, and eye-opening, and being able to discuss CE-related topics in a group setting was for many a positive experience. The experiences expressed in this study are very useful for continued development of LEAP. Although preliminary, the results also suggest that LEAP may be a valuable add-on treatment within ED care. Burnout among psychotherapists is a pervasive challenge affecting both professional well-being and client care. This study aims to explore the experience of burnout among integrative psychotherapists and examine the strategies they employ to cope with this phenomenon. Interviews were conducted with 17 integrative psychotherapists, and the data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-step thematic analysis. Through this analysis, two themes were identified: (1) work-related pressures and burnout manifestations and (2) strategies for maintaining optimal functioning. Fatigue, headaches, challenges in decision-making or session planning, numbness in the form of paralysis, and disconnection from clients emerged as primary symptoms, impacting therapeutic efficacy. Participants' intense sense of responsibility toward clients and their self-worth validation through client progress intensified burnout risks, particularly among novices. Personal therapy and clinical supervision emerged as pivotal in mitigating burnout, offering support, and enhancing therapist resilience. Additionally, peer support and organizational interventions were deemed crucial during crises, emphasizing the need for structured support systems within professional bodies. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of burnout in psychotherapy and highlight the need for targeted interventions to enhance professionals' resilience and sustain effective client outcomes. Introduction: There is a growing need for alternative forms of care to address citizen demands and ensure a competent healthcare workforce across municipalities and regions. One of these forms of care is the use of mobile care units. The aim of the current study was to describe physicians and nurses experiences of providing care to patients within a mobile care unit in Sweden. Method: Data were collected between March 2022 and January 2023 through qualitative interviews with 14 physicians and nurses employed in various mobile care units in different regions in Sweden. These interviews were transcribed verbatim and subjected to content analysis, with the study adhering to the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR). Results: The analysis resulted in two main categories: "Unlocking the potential of mobile care", and "The challenges of moving hospitals to patients' homes"; and seven subcategories. The respondents viewed mobile care at home as highly advantageous, positively impacting both patients and caregivers. They believed their contributions enhanced patients' well-being, fostering a welcoming atmosphere. They also noted receiving more quality time for each patient, enabling thorough assessments, and promoting a person-centered approach, which resulted in more gratifying mutual relationships. However, they experienced that mobile care also had challenges such as geographical limitations, limited opening hours and logistical complexity, which can lead to less equitable and efficient care. Conclusions: Physicians and nurses in mobile care units emphasized positive outcomes, contributing to patient well-being through a person-centered approach. They highlighted increased quality time, comprehensive assessments, and overall satisfaction, praising the mobile care unit's unique continuity for enhancing safety and fostering meaningful relationships in the patient's home environment. Background: Chronic cough, a cough lasting >8 weeks, includes refractory chronic cough (RCC) and unexplained chronic cough (UCC). Patient-reported outcome (PRO) measures are needed to better understand chronic cough impacts that matter most to patients. The 19-item Leicester Cough Questionnaire (LCQ), an existing PRO measure of chronic cough, assesses impacts of cough across physical, psychological, and social domains. However, the content validity of the LCQ evaluating these concepts in patients with RCC/UCC had not been established. Objectives: To evaluate the content validity of the LCQ in patients with RCC/UCC. Design: A cross-sectional, qualitative interview study. Methods: First, previously completed qualitative interview results in adults with RCC/UCC (N = 30) were evaluated and mapped to LCQ concepts. Next, a clinical cough expert reviewed each LCQ item and assessed the salience of its concepts for patients with RCC/UCC. Finally, semistructured interviews—including both concept elicitation and cognitive debriefing—were conducted in adults with RCC/UCC (N = 20) to elicit a comprehensive set of participant experiences and to assess the appropriateness of using the LCQ in this population. Results: Concepts reported in the past and present qualitative interviews were included across all LCQ items, and most impacts reported to be the "most bothersome" were assessed in the LCQ. In the current study, all participants indicated that reduced cough frequency would be an important treatment target. During cognitive debriefing, each LCQ item was endorsed by ⩾70% of participants. Additionally, participants were generally able to understand, recall, and select a response for each LCQ item. All participants and the clinical expert indicated that the LCQ was appropriate and assessed the impacts most relevant to patients with RCC/UCC. Conclusion: Our findings support the content validity of the LCQ and demonstrate that this measure is fit-for-purpose and includes important cough impacts in adults with RCC/UCC. This qualitative phenomenological study explores the experiences of parents of children with special needs in Turkey, specifically their encounters with Guidance and Research Centers (GRCs) during the process of obtaining educational assessment reports. Through semi-structured interviews with 25 parents, the study reveals complex emotions and concerns over the assessment process, including the adequacy of assessment tools, the duration of evaluations, and the involvement of parents in the decision-making process. While many parents expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, significant issues were highlighted, such as the lack of communication between professionals and families and discrepancies in the accuracy of assessments and placement decisions. The research underscores the need for a more collaborative approach between parents and professionals, emphasizing the importance of improved communication, enhanced diversity of assessment tools, and longer evaluation periods to ensure a fairer and more comprehensive understanding of each child’s unique needs. The findings also suggest that greater parental involvement in the assessment and placement processes could lead to better educational outcomes and increased satisfaction for families. Este trabajo aborda la incertidumbre, foco central del actual debate epistemológico, en una triple concreción sociológica. En primer lugar, concreción temática: la incertidumbre en el ámbito del cambio climático (CC, en adelante). En segundo lugar, se fija en actores concretos: expertos en ese ámbito. Y tercero: concreta una observación empírica, con entrevistas a expertos españoles en CC. Se asume una perspectiva emic, atenta al habla de los expertos sobre sentido, localización y gestión de la incertidumbre climática. Como recoge la sucesión de los distintos informes del IPCC, la incertidumbre ha sido y es asunto central de reflexión en el estudio del CC. Dado que son los expertos los que la definen, clasifican, miden y comunican al resto de la ciudadanía, su estudio debe pasar necesariamente por la indagación de su peculiar relación con la heterogénea comunidad de los expertos. Tras dar cuenta de la relevancia dada a la incertidumbre en los informes del IPCC, se propone una reconstrucción selectiva del debate sobre la experticia y la incertidumbre, presentando algunos resultados de las indagaciones sobre el tema en España, para centrar después la atención en el análisis de las evidencias aportadas por una investigación cualitativa, concluyendo con los principales resultados alcanzados. Uncertainty is one of the central issues in the current epistemological debate. This paper proposes to approach it within the framework of a triple sociological concretion. First, a thematic concretion: uncertainty in the field of climate change. Second, it focuses on specific actors: experts in the field of climate change. And third, it is based on an empirical sociological observation of qualitative interviews with a significant sample of Spanish climate change experts. Thus, an emic perspective is adopted, paying attention to what the experts say about the meaning, location, and management of uncertainty. Uncertainty has been and continues to be a central topic of reflection in the study of climate change, as shown by the succession of different IPCC reports. Since it is the experts who define, classify, measure, and communicate the uncertainty of climate change to the rest of the citizens, its study must necessarily include the observation of the peculiar relationship with the heterogeneous community of experts. This work aims to make a contribution in this respect. After an account of the importance given to uncertainty in the IPCC reports, it proposes a selective reconstruction of the debate on expertise and uncertainty, presenting some of the results of research on the subject in Spain, to then focus attention on the analysis of the evidence provided by recent qualitative research, and to end with some conclusions that identify the main results obtained.

Over the past decade, the protest against so-called 'gender ideology' in Italian schools has witnessed widespread and pervasive mobilisations. Prompted by the directives of anti-gender organisations, grassroots networks activated at the local level have opposed educational programmes related to gender equality, sexuality and the prevention of discrimination against LGBT+ individuals. Through qualitative interviews with Catholic mothers and teachers who participated in the anti-gender conferences in 2015, we adopted a micro-level perspective to interpret their narratives as strategies aimed at defending their ethical and heteronormative educational competence against emerging norms of sexual democracy. The analysis shows how these women position themselves and construct their opposition to gender ideology as a means of asserting social and cultural legitimacy against the perceived risk of symbolic marginalisation in the field of education.

Abstract Objectives To explore how to reach immigrant women through community agencies to raise awareness of the role of physical activity (PA) in reducing cancer risk. Study design Qualitative description. Methods We conducted semi-structured telephone interviews with immigrant women and community agency managers to discuss the ideal design of an education session on PA and cancer risk, and identified themes using content analysis. Results Participants included 22 women (6 African or Caribbean Black, 4 Chinese, 3 Filipino, 5 Indian, 4 Pakistani) and 16 agency managers from across Canada. Women were not familiar with Canada’s PA guidelines, and few were aware that PA reduces the risk of cancer. All expressed interest in education about PA and cancer. Diverse women and managers expressed similar preferences for education session design including content (e.g. PA amount/type), format (e.g. in person preferred but virtual more practical), personnel (external expert plus agency staff), cultural tailoring (e.g. translated supplemental take home information) and reinforcing (e.g. follow-up with participants) strategies. Women and managers identified few barriers to participating in education sessions, chiefly, that women lacked time due to work and family responsibilities; and noted several enablers of participation (e.g. emphasize social aspect, provide gift cards or recreation centre passes). Conclusions We generated insight on the ideal characteristics of a community-based education session that could raise awareness among immigrant women of the importance of PA in reducing cancer risk. Further research is needed to assess the feasibility and impact of PA education sessions designed based on these findings.

Background: Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) due to C1-inhibitor deficiency (C1INH) is a rare condition, clinically characterised by recurrent swelling. The unpredictability of attacks affects the patients' quality of life (QoL). HAE patients and their families have vast unmet physical, psychological, and social needs. A human-centred design (HCD) approach to describing the needs of different user types is to utilise personas, a data-driven narrative tool for communicating user archetypes that capture the individuals' attitudes, goals, and behaviours. The aim of this study was to create and analyse personas based on HAE patients' and their caregivers' interviews. Semi-structured interviews were conducted through anthropological conversations with patients, patient-caregivers (double role of patient and caregiver), and non-affected caregivers. Qualitative and quantitative insights from analyses formed the basis to create personas. Results: We enrolled 17 subjects: 15 patients (6 of them were patient-caregivers) and 2 non-affected caregivers. The mean age of participants was 50.3 ± 14.4 years. Eight patients were on treatment with prophylactic therapy. The mean percentage score of Angioedema Quality of Life (AE-QoL) for HAE patients was 19.8 ± 12.0. Six personas were identified describing the participants' personal history, disease management, and needs: four personas referred to patients, one to patient-caregivers, and one non-affected caregiver personas were identified. Across patient personas, the most expressed needs were psychological support and better awareness amongst healthcare professionals. Caregivers, on their side, desired better information about the disease, including the latest therapies, and higher awareness within the community. Conclusion: A Human Centred Innovative Approach Based on Persona extends beyond the physical symptoms to encompass the psychological and social aspects of the individual's well-being also including the family in the evaluation. The aim was to explore patients' early experiences of symptoms after hemithyroidectomy and how these symptoms influenced their daily lives. An inductive explorative qualitative research design was performed. Sixteen patients from two hospitals were interviewed between two-three weeks after the surgery. All the patients experienced compression symptoms before the surgery. The study was analyzed with conventional manifest content analysis. The inductive analysis yielded two main categories and one subcategory. The two main categories were: Early postoperative symptoms that caused disadvantage in daily life and Early postoperative symptoms and coping strategies. The subcategory was: Early postoperative experiences of concerns about the future. Key points: 1. Patients experienced early postoperative symptoms that affected their lives in multiple levels, making them develop coping strategies and awaking concerns about remaining symptoms in the future. 2. The effect of hemithyroidectomy influenced patients' daily life in the early postoperative phase considerably. 3. The study shows that tailored preoperative patient information is important. Background: Disparities in cervical cancer screening rates among marginalized groups is a driver of inequalities in cervical cancer. Self‐sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing is a newly emerging alternative to clinician‐performed testing to screen for cervical cancer, and has high potential to reduce screening barriers in under‐screened and marginalized groups. We study the acceptability in of HPV self‐sampling and informational materials among Black/African American, Hispanic/Spanish speaking, American Indian/Alaska Native and transgender/nonbinary populations. Methods: We conducted qualitative interviews with patients, ages 30–65, who were Black/African American, Hispanic, American Indian, and/or transgender/nonbinary individuals assigned female at birth. Telephone interviews were conducted in English or Spanish. Patients did not complete the test, rather were asked about the attractiveness, comprehensibility, and acceptability of the HPV self‐test, instructions, and messaging. Results: Among 23 completed interviews (5 American Indian/Alaska Native, 7 Hispanic [2 bilingual, 5 Spanish‐speaking], 5 Black/African American, and 6 transgender/nonbinary), patients from all groups thought the test was straightforward and convenient, and they would complete the test at home or in clinic. The transgender/nonbinary patients preferred at‐home testing. American Indian and transgender/nonbinary patients liked that the test might avoid pain, discomfort, and invasiveness. All patients liked the letter and instructions. All groups had specific suggestions for making the materials more culturally acceptable. Conclusions: The HPV self‐test and the instructions and materials for use were acceptable for a diverse group of patients. Tailored outreach and messaging should be considered to reduce screening disparities among groups that have been historically underserved by the medical system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since conflict is a ubiquitous phenomenon in inter-but also intraorganizational work, conflict management behavior (CMB) is a preconditioning factor for successful cooperations. Prior research shows that CMB can be individualistic or collectivistic in orientation and highlights the episodic nature of CMB. However, in focusing on analyzing specific conflicts and conflict dynamics in collaborative contexts, research paid less attention to how conflict and CMB are influenced by structural patterns and thus might overstate the role of individual agency compared to the role of the general structure of the cooperation. We address this issue by investigating the inter-organizational cooperation of IT-freelancers and their client organizations. Based on 18 semi-structured problem-centered and expert interviews with IT-freelancers, representatives of client organizations and agencies, we show that the CMB orientation depends on the institutionalized sequential stages of the cooperation. While individualistic CMBs dominate the pre-contract sequence, in which recruitment processes and negotiations take place, the parties switch to collectivistic CMB in the contract sequence, in which the actual cooperation is carried out. The postcontract sequence serves for reflections on the cooperation and thus influences the willingness to engage in future cooperations and, in turn, affects future pre-contract sequences. With a focus on the IT industry, the paper addresses research gaps related to the specific temporality and temporal structuring of contingent work. It introduces a sequence-oriented framework and analysis of conflict and conflict management in interorganizational projects, complementing related episodic perspectives on conflict, and psychological contracts with a more chronological and structural perspective. Background: In both routine practice contexts and research studies, evidence from standardized self-report symptom measures, administered pre- and posttreatment, is predominantly used to determine whether psychotherapy has been successful. Understanding the nature of unsuccessful psychotherapy requires an ability to evaluate the credibility of outcome data generated by such techniques. An important body of research has identified discrepancies between outcomes assessed through symptom measures and those obtained from other sources. However, not enough is known about the extent to which such paradoxical outcomes exist. Objective: This study analyzes the relationship between outcomes, as assessed by a standardized self-report measure, and as assessed by ratings of young people’s descriptions of change at post-counseling interviews. Methods: Participants were 50 young people (13–16 years old) who had taken part in a trial of up to 10 weeks of school-based humanistic counseling. Our primary standardized measure was the Young Person’s CORE (YP-CORE). To assess young people’s experiences of counseling change, three independent raters scrutinized transcripts of post-counseling interviews, and scored levels of helpfulness on a 1 (Not at all helpful) to 10 (Extremely helpful) scale. Interrater reliabilities were 0.94 (Cronbach’s Alpha) and 0.96 (McDonald’s Omega). Sensitivity analyses were conducted to explore relationships between helpfulness ratings and other outcome measures, i.e., satisfaction with counseling (ESQ) and the Goal-Based-Outcome Tool (GBO), and process measures, i.e., the Working Alliance Inventory (WAI-S) and the Barret Lennard Relationship Inventory (BLRI). Results: Multilevel analysis indicated that helpfulness ratings were not significantly associated with changes in YP-CORE scores. Analyzed categorically, 38% of those showing reliable improvement on the standardized measure were below the median for self-described helpfulness, and 47% of those not showing reliable change were at or above the median for self-described helpfulness. Sensitivity analyses demonstrated closer correlations between helpfulness ratings and other outcome measures (ESQ and GBO), and between helpfulness ratings and process measures (WAI-S and BLRI). Discussion: Our results raise questions about reliance on symptom change outcome measures for defining treatment success and failure, given their disparity with clients’ own descriptions of the helpfulness of therapy. Psychotherapy for individuals with psychosis is an effective treatment that promotes recovery in various ways. While there is strong quantitative evidence across modalities, less is known from the patient's perspective. There are many varied forms of psychotherapy, and gaining the patient's perspective can improve understanding of salient elements of psychotherapy and increase engagement, ultimately improving recovery rates. The purpose of this review is to identify and integrate data from published studies of patient perspectives of psychotherapy for psychosis to understand essential elements across approaches, differences between approaches, and how psychotherapy impacts recovery. We aimed to understand further: what are the perceptions about individual psychotherapy from the perspective of individuals with psychosis? The current study was a systematic review using PRISMA guidelines of studies that included qualitative interviews with persons with experiences of psychosis who participated in psychotherapy. All three authors participated in the literature search using Pubmed, APA PsycInfo, and Psychiatry Online. We identified N = 33 studies. Studies included cognitive therapies, acceptance and mindfulness approaches, trauma therapies, metacognitive therapy, and music therapy. All studies reported participants' perceived benefit with the therapeutic relationship as especially salient. Participants described diverse aspects of objective (e.g., symptoms, functioning) and subjective (e.g., self-experience or quality of life) recovery improvements, with perceived mechanisms of change, and with music therapy having some unique benefits. Participants also reported challenges and suggestions for improvement. Study findings highlight the salient aspects of psychotherapy identified by patients that may help therapists to individualize and improve approaches to psychotherapy when working with individuals experiencing psychosis. Emergency departments (EDs) are overcrowded and linked to an increased risk of mortality and morbidity. Digitalization in EDs has been shown to increase effectiveness, reduce wait times, and improve performance and patient experience. The purpose of this study was to explore ED nurses' experiences with digitalization in the ED. Interviews were conducted with eight ED nurses in a Norwegian hospital. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-step thematic analysis. Through analysis, three themes were identified, namely (1) consequences for patient safety, (2) influencing communication in the ED, and (3) impacting acute nursing. ED nurses experienced that the digital tools had increased patient safety through accurate documentation and providing a quick overview of the patient. However, digital tools were also seen as a threat to patient safety due to taking focus away from the patient. Digital tools were experienced to have negatively changed the communication both between personnel and between personnel and patients. Also, digital tools impacted the ED nurses' professional role to a more digitalization-focused approach rather than a patient-oriented approach. Family caregivers are vital to enabling people with dementia to live longer in their own homes. For these caregivers, chatting with clinicians—being listened to empathetically and receiving reassurance—can be seen as not incidental but important to supporting them. This paper considers and identifies the significance of this relational work for family carers by re-examining data originally collected to document caregivers' perspectives on quality in crisis response teams. This reveals that chatting, for family caregivers, comprises three related features: (i) that family caregivers by responding to a person's changing and sometimes challenging needs and behaviors inhabit a precarious equilibrium; (ii) that caregivers greatly appreciate 'chatting' with visiting clinicians; and (iii) that while caregivers appreciate these chats, they can be highly critical of the institutionalized character of a crisis response team's involvement with them. Background Social prescribing link workers have become part of primary health care in recent years. They help patients to recognise non-medical factors affecting their health and identify sources of support, often in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. They form part of wider work to strengthen person-centred care, which actively seeks to engage individuals in decision-making about their health, taking into account their medical, social, psychological, financial and spiritual circumstances. Objective To understand how buy-in to social prescribing and the link worker role is established for a patient, and how this relates to person-centred care. Design A realist evaluation. Setting Patients engaging with link workers in seven different parts of England were involved. Methods As part of data collection, we observed link workers interacting with 35 patients. We also interviewed 61 patients and re-interviewed 41 of them 9–12 months later. Data were coded and developed into context–mechanism–outcome configurations, which were used to produce a programme theory. Results Data highlighted how patients might be uncertain about the link worker role but agree to a referral as they sought assistance with their non-medical issues. Patients talked about experiencing a sense of hope through the trust they developed in a link worker. This trust was established through the communication skills and knowledge demonstrated by a link worker, and by their ability to act as an anchor point when required – a reliable, consistent source of support to whom patients could offload. The link worker role also involved connecting patients to external support, which called for sensitivity around how ready someone was to move forward; this was shaped by a patient’s motivation but also their capacity to make changes given other demands in their life. Connecting patients to external support could be affected by structural factors outside the link workers’ control (e.g. housing options or employment opportunities). Limitations We did not interview patients who had rejected the offer of social prescribing, and most had a positive view of meeting with a link worker. Conclusions Person-centred care is engendered by link workers through their skills, knowledge and ability to respond to the individual readiness of patients to engage with external support. It can be curtailed by structural factors outside link workers’ sphere of control, such as access to housing or caring responsibilities of patients. This can hinder patients’ ability to ‘connect to’, leaving link workers to continue ‘connecting with’ patients as they act as an anchor point. Future work Exploration is required of factors affecting patients who interact with a link worker but do not access external support. Longitudinal work with a cohort of patients, speaking to them on a regular basis, may provide further understanding in this respect. In our study, we collected data around seven link workers in different areas of England. As part of data collection, we interviewed 61 patients and re-interviewed 41 of them 9–12 months later. We also watched 35 patients meeting with a link worker. We found that patients were often unsure about what to expect when a doctor referred them to a link worker. However, they hoped this person could help them with their non-medical issues. When link workers were warm, non-judgmental and listened, patients were more likely to trust them. This trust was increased when link workers shared knowledge of and directed patients towards options in the community that could support their non-medical issues. Patients thought it was important for link workers to be a consistent source of support, who did not push them to do things they were not ready to try. Our research provides an insight into how link workers can provide a person-centred approach when supporting patients. This means that the needs, values and individual situation of patients take priority. It calls for an equal partnership to be created between a patient and link worker in deciding how to address the former’s non-medical issues.

This qualitative study, using a phenomenological approach, explores parents' experiences in Turkey of obtaining reports from Guidance and Research Centers for their children with special needs. Through semi-structured interviews with 25 parents, findings reveal concerns over the adequacy of assessment tools and the assessment duration. While many parents are satisfied with the outcomes, discrepancies in the accuracy of assessments and placement decisions raise questions. The study underscores the need for improved communication between sectors and informed parental involvement, suggesting enhancements in assessment tool diversity and evaluation periods.

Background Social prescribing addresses non-medical factors affecting health and well-being. Link workers are key to its delivery by connecting people to relevant support, often in the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector. Funding from the National Health Service means that link workers are becoming a common part of primary care in England. Objective To explore and understand the implementation of link workers in primary care in England. Design A realist evaluation addressed the question – When implementing link workers in primary care to sustain outcomes – what works, for whom, why and in what circumstances? Setting Link workers and staff associated with seven primary care sites across England. Methods Researchers spent 3 weeks with each link worker, going to meetings with them, watching them interact with patients, with healthcare staff and with voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations. In addition, interviews were conducted with 61 patients and 93 professionals (voluntary, community and social enterprise representatives and healthcare staff, including link workers). Follow-up interviews were conducted with 41 patients and with link workers 9–12 months later. Data were coded and developed into statements to identify how context around the link worker triggers mechanisms that lead to intended and unintended outcomes. Results We found that link workers exercise micro-discretions in their role – actions and advice-giving based on personal judgement of a situation, which may not always reflect explicit guidance or protocols. Our analysis highlighted that micro-discretions engender positive connections (with patients, healthcare staff, the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector) and promote buy-in to the link worker role in primary care. Micro-discretions supported delivery of person-centred care and enhanced job satisfaction. Data also highlighted that lack of boundaries could place link workers at risk of overstepping their remit. Limitations Our research focused on link workers attached to primary care; findings may not be applicable to those working in other settings. Data were collected around seven link worker cases, who were selected purposively for variation in terms of geographical spread and how/by whom link workers were employed. However, these link workers were predominately white females. Conclusions Enabling link workers to exercise micro-discretions allows for responsiveness to individual patient needs but can result in uncertainty and to link workers feeling overstretched. Future work Poor link worker retention may, in part, be associated with a lack of clarity around their role. Research to explore how this shapes intention to leave their job is being conducted by authors of this paper. We spent 3 weeks with each link worker, observing them at their workplace. We also interviewed these link workers and people they worked with; this included 61 patients, 61 primary care staff, 5 other link workers and 20 individuals from the voluntary or community sector. We found big differences in what link workers did in their roles; in how long they saw patients for and how often, how many patients they were supporting at one time, their professional and personal backgrounds, whether they worked in a practice alone or were part of a bigger team of people delivering social prescribing. Link workers had varying levels of flexibility (or discretion) in their jobs; this allowed them to support patients’ individual needs. Such flexibility gave them job satisfaction as they were able to use their judgement about how to work with patients to provide person-centred support. However, if this went too far – and link workers had too few boundaries and not enough guidance – they ended up feeling overwhelmed by their job.

Abstract Background Personalised Care and Support Planning (PCSP) replaces conventional annual reviews for people with long-term conditions. It is designed to help healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients engage in conversations as equals and collaboratively plan actions oriented to each patient’s priorities, alongside biomedical concerns. Little is known about how the shift to remote consulting initiated with COVID-19 restrictions has impacted PCSP. Aim To investigate HCPs’ experiences of conducting PCSP conversations remotely and consider implications for the fulfilment of PCSP ambitions as remote consulting continues beyond COVID-19 restrictions. Methods 19 semi-structured interviews with HCPs in England and Scotland; interpretive analysis. Results HCPs’ accounts made clear that COVID-19 restrictions impacted multiple aspects of PCSP delivery, not just the mode of conversation. Broader disruption to general practice systems for gathering and sharing information ahead of PCSP conversations, and moves to ‘wide window’ appointment times, made it harder for patients to be prepared for PCSP conversations. This constrained scope to achieve PCSP ambitions even with the best professional communication skills. Most remote PCSP conversations were conducted by telephone. In the absence of visual communication with patients, it was sometimes harder to achieve the ambitions of PCSP conversations, including to balance patient and professional agendas, fulfil key planning activities, and foster a relational ethos of equal, collaborative partnership. The challenges were particularly severe when working with new patients and people with complex clinical and social problems. Although options for telephone appointments now offer valued flexibility, sustained experience of struggling to achieve PCSP ambitions via remote consulting led some HCPs to lower their standards for judging a “good” PCSP conversation, and to diminished professional satisfaction. Conclusions There are significant challenges to fulfilling the ambitions of PCSP via telephone, especially when preparatory support is limited. This study provides grounds for scepticism about how compatible telephone appointments can be with this person-centred model of working, especially for people who are socially disadvantaged and live with complex health conditions. These threats to the provision of person-centred support for people with long-term conditions warrant careful attention going forward if the PCSP model and its benefits are to be sustained.

Abstract Background Care coordination has been identified as one of five focuses of HealthierSG. Family medicine residents are expected to collaborate with other healthcare professionals for complex patients by the end of residency. However, many residents felt that it was challenging to coordinate care effectively among healthcare stakeholders. However, to date, no qualitative studies have explored these challenges. Therefore, this study aimed to understand the challenges encountered by family medicine residents when coordinating care for complex patients. Methods This was a qualitative descriptive study in which semi structured in-depth interviews were conducted and guided by a topic guide. Total population sampling of 15 third-year family medicine residents in the National Healthcare Group Polyclinics was performed. The interviews were performed over Zoom and were transcribed. Thematic analysis was subsequently performed to analyse the transcripts. Coding was performed iteratively by two independent researchers. Disagreements were adjudicated by a third coder. A coding framework was agreed upon. Potential themes were then independently developed based on the coding framework. Results Six themes emerged from the data, namely, interprofessional communications, accessibility, personal knowledge, time constraints, patient factors and caregiver dissent. Conclusion Challenges faced by family medicine residents are multifaceted. While a few are systemic and pertain to the broader healthcare framework, others, such as issues of unfamiliarity with institutional workflows, community resources, and confidentiality, pertain to the microcosm of residency itself. These are reversible areas for improvement. These challenges can be addressed during planning of residency curricula to better equip family medicine residents with coordinating care for complex patients in the future.

Abstract Background As the return to alcohol use in individuals with alcohol use disorder (AUD) is common during treatment and recovery, it is important that abstinence motivation is maintained after such critical incidences. Our study aims to explore how individuals with AUD participating in an app-based intervention with telephone coaching after inpatient treatment perceived their abstinence motivation after the return to alcohol use, whether their app use behavior was affected and to identify helpful factors to maintain abstinence motivation. Methods Using a mixed-methods approach, ten participants from the intervention group of the randomized controlled trial SmartAssistEntz who returned to alcohol use and recorded this in the app Appstinence, a smartphone application with telephone coaching designed for individuals with AUD, were interviewed about their experiences. The interviews were recorded, transcribed and coded using qualitative content analysis. App use behavior was additionally examined by using log data. Results Of the ten interviewees, seven reported their abstinence motivation increased after the return to alcohol use. Reasons included the reminder of negative consequences of drinking, the desire to regain control of their situation as well as the perceived support provided by the app. App data showed that app use remained stable after the return to alcohol use with an average of 58.70 days of active app use (SD = 25.96, Mdn = 58.50, range = 24–96, IQR = 44.25) after the return to alcohol use which was also indicated by the participants’ reported use behavior. Conclusions The findings of the study tentatively suggest that the app can provide support to individuals after the return to alcohol use to maintain and increase motivation after the incidence. Future research should (1) focus on specifically enhancing identification of high risk situations and reach during such critical incidences, (2) actively integrate the experience of the return to alcohol use into app-based interventions to better support individuals in achieving their personal AUD behavior change goals, and (3) investigate what type of support individuals might need who drop out of the study and intervention and discontinue app use altogether. Trial registration The primary evaluation study is registered in the German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS, registration number DRKS00017700) and received approval of the ethical committee of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (193_19 B).

Abstract Background People with cancer have high information needs; however, they are often inadequately met. Patient versions of clinical practice guidelines (PVGs), a special form of evidence-based information, translate patient-relevant recommendations from clinical practice guidelines into lay language. To date, little is known about the experience of PVGs from healthcare providers’ perspective in healthcare. This study aims to investigate the use, applicability, and dissemination of PVGs in oncology from the healthcare providers’ perspective in Germany. Methods Twenty semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted with oncological healthcare providers in Germany between October and December 2021. Interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Mayring’s qualitative content analysis with MAXQDA software was utilised to analyse the data. Results A total of 20 healthcare providers (14 female, 6 male), mainly working as psychotherapists/psycho-oncologists and physicians, participated. Most participants (75%) were aware of the existence of PVGs. The content was predominantly perceived as comprehensible and relevant, whereas opinions on the design and format were mixed. The perceived lack of up-to-date information limited participants’ trust in the content. Most felt that PVGs positively impact healthcare owing to the fact that they improve patients’ knowledge about their disease. Additionally, PVGs served as a guide and helped healthcare providers structure physician–patient talks. Healthcare provider’s unawareness of the existence of PVGs was cited as an obstructive factor to its dissemination to patients. Conclusion Limited knowledge of the existence of PVGs among healthcare providers, coupled with alternative patient information, hinders the use and dissemination of PVGs in healthcare. However, the applicability of PVGs seemed to be acceptable owing to their content and good comprehensibility, especially with respect to physician–patient communication.

Ecologically considerate use of nature (including agriculture) has often been associated with ‘stewardship’ as a human-nature relationship which involves human care, responsibility and accountability and is thus more sustainable than the alternative human-nature relationship of manager of nature. We show that the consideration of nature in agriculture can go further than stewardship by presenting data from qualitative interviews with Swiss Alpine farmers indicating that many of them view their relationship with nature as a form of partnership. Drawing on literature of human-nature partnership, we characterize this relationship by 1) bidirectionality – a give and take between nature and humans–, 2) the understanding of nature as a subject rather than an object and 3) interaction with nature that consists of collaboration rather than giving commands. The mountain farmers expressed all of these features in their farming practices and descriptions of their role in nature. A few farmers even saw their role as subordinates to nature, for which we introduced the new human-nature relationship category of “apprenticeship”. We further suggest that the partnership relation between humans and nature in many respects shares key features with relational values, for instance in its non-centric nature and in its emphasis of the combination of benefits for people with care for nature. In that sense, we aim at combining different accounts of inclusive, non-dichotomous and context-sensitive dealings with nature and we suggest that this combination is applicable also to contexts beyond agriculture.

Purpose Obesity-related stigma impacts on and shapes the physical and psychosocial wellbeing of individuals living with obesity. Often absent from the literature in the field is the voice(s) of those living with obesity capturing the nuances of the lived experiences of obesity-related stigma. Methods This study adopted a qualitative approach encompassing individual (n = 15) and photovoice method (n = 12), with a purposeful sample of patients accessing treatment for obesity within the healthcare setting during 2021. Analysis was undertaken using thematic analysis. Results Key themes developed from the analysis related to experiencing obesity-related stigma as exposure to external judgement, societal exclusion and felt environmental stigmatization. Exposure to external judgement was described as judgemental comments resulting in hypervigilance to societal judgement. Participants reported how being overlooked and ignored by others had various negative effects and compounded obesity-related stigma through societal exclusion. Public spaces lacking suitable equipment further made obesity-related stigma visible through felt environmental stigmatization when pursuing hobbies and in everyday life. Conclusions Obesity-related stigma had a profoundly negative impact on participants in this study, particularly in shaping social interaction, limiting life experiences and impacting psychosocial wellbeing.

BackgroundPostpartum haemorrhage (PPH) is the leading cause of global maternal deaths, accounting for 30-50% of maternal deaths in sub-Saharan Africa. Most PPH-related deaths are preventable with timely detection and initiation of care, which may be facilitated by using a clinical care bundle. We explore influences on current PPH detection and management and on the future implementation of a new PPH bundle (E-MOTIVE) in low-resource, high-burden settings.MethodsSemi-structured qualitative interviews based on the Theoretical Domains Framework were conducted with 45 healthcare providers across nine hospitals in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, to identify barriers and enablers to current PPH detection and management and future implementation of a new PPH care bundle. Data were analysed using thematic and framework analysis. The Behaviour Change Wheel was used to identify potential interventions to address identified barriers and enablers.ResultsInfluences on current PPH detection and management fell under 12 domains: Environmental Context and Resources (drug and staff shortages), Skills (limited in-service training), Knowledge (variable understanding of the recommended practice), Behaviour Regulation (limited quality improvement culture), Beliefs about Consequences (drawbacks from inaccurate detection), Emotion (stress from the unpredictability of PPH), Social Influence (teamwork), Memory, Attention and Decision-making (limited guideline use), Social/Professional Role and Identity (role clarity), Beliefs about Capabilities (confidence in managing PPH), Reinforcement (disciplinary procedures) and Goals (PPH as a priority). Influences on bundle uptake included: Beliefs about Consequences (perceived benefits of new blood loss measurement tool), Environmental Context and Resources (high cost of drugs and new tools), Memory, Attention and Decision-making (concerns about whether bundle fits current practice), Knowledge (not understanding 'bundled' approach), Social Influence (acceptance by women and staff) and Intention (limited acceptance of 'bundled' approach over existing practice). These influences were consistent across countries. Proposed interventions included: Education, Training, Modelling (core and new skills), Enablement (monitoring uptake), Persuasion (leadership role) and Environmental Restructuring (PPH emergency trolley/kit).ConclusionsA wide range of individual, socio-cultural and environmental barriers and enablers to improving PPH detection and management exist in these settings. We identified a range of interventions that could improve PPH care and the implementation of new care bundles in this context.Trial registrationClinicalTrials.gov : NCT04341662.

Background: Personalised Care and Support Planning (PCSP) replaces conventional annual reviews for people with long-term conditions. It is designed to help healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients engage in conversations as equals and collaboratively plan actions oriented to each patient's priorities, alongside biomedical concerns. Little is known about how the shift to remote consulting initiated with COVID-19 restrictions has impacted PCSP. Aim: To investigate HCPs' experiences of conducting PCSP conversations remotely and consider implications for the fulfilment of PCSP ambitions as remote consulting continues beyond COVID-19 restrictions. Methods: 19 semi-structured interviews with HCPs in England and Scotland; interpretive analysis. Results: HCPs' accounts made clear that COVID-19 restrictions impacted multiple aspects of PCSP delivery, not just the mode of conversation. Broader disruption to general practice systems for gathering and sharing information ahead of PCSP conversations, and moves to 'wide window' appointment times, made it harder for patients to be prepared for PCSP conversations. This constrained scope to achieve PCSP ambitions even with the best professional communication skills. Most remote PCSP conversations were conducted by telephone. In the absence of visual communication with patients, it was sometimes harder to achieve the ambitions of PCSP conversations, including to balance patient and professional agendas, fulfil key planning activities, and foster a relational ethos of equal, collaborative partnership. The challenges were particularly severe when working with new patients and people with complex clinical and social problems. Although options for telephone appointments now offer valued flexibility, sustained experience of struggling to achieve PCSP ambitions via remote consulting led some HCPs to lower their standards for judging a "good" PCSP conversation, and to diminished professional satisfaction. Conclusions: There are significant challenges to fulfilling the ambitions of PCSP via telephone, especially when preparatory support is limited. This study provides grounds for scepticism about how compatible telephone appointments can be with this person-centred model of working, especially for people who are socially disadvantaged and live with complex health conditions. These threats to the provision of person-centred support for people with long-term conditions warrant careful attention going forward if the PCSP model and its benefits are to be sustained. This article explores the challenges and adaptations we undertook to engage people with different communication needs, specifically those living with motor neurone disease (MND), in qualitative research interviews. While interviewing those in advanced stages of illness has raised ethical concerns, participants continue to report value in contributing to research. We reflect on our experiences of conducting qualitative interviews with people living with MND and provide guidance for researchers facing similar challenges. MND significantly impairs communication abilities, impacting speech, gestures, and facial expressions. Communication aids such as augmented and alternative communication (AAC) devices are often key tools for communication. We draw on two research studies using expanded interview techniques to accommodate these devices and provide space for participants to express their views. Interview methods were modified to cater for participant fatigue, setting and individual communication needs. While acknowledging the limitations, we explore how digital platforms, such as MS Teams and Zoom, enabled online interviews, offering advantages for both participants and researchers. Joint interviews involving participants and family members were found to be crucial, considering the interdependence of experiences in illness. Family members often aided communication and enriched data by providing context. Email interviews were another valuable method, allowing participants time to respond and consider their answers, which was particularly useful for those with limited speech. By incorporating a variety of qualitative methods and adapting approaches, we aimed to create inclusive and meaningful research experiences for individuals with different communication needs, ensuring their voices and experiences were captured effectively. Aim: To explore spouses' experiences of living with a partner suffering from non‐cardiac chest pain (NCPP). Design: An inductive qualitative study. Methods: Individual interviews (n = 10) were performed with spouses of partners having NCCP and cardiac anxiety. The analysis was performed according to Patton's guide for content analysis of qualitative data. Results: Three categories and seven subcategories were identified. First, 'a feeling of being neglected', where spouses felt ignored by healthcare professionals and excluded by their partners. Secondly, 'a tension between hope and despair' encompassed feelings of faith, support, unpreparedness for chest pain and situational frustration. Lastly, in 'a threat to ordinary life', spouses noted chest pain‐induced changes impacting daily life, finances, leisure and relationships. To conclude, NCCP in partners significantly affects their spouses emotionally and practically. Spouses felt neglected and isolated, oscillating between hope and despair and experiencing faith, powerlessness and frustration. They also faced challenges in daily life and relationships.
