Abstract

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have recently become popular for energy storage due to their high energy density, storage capacity, and long-term cycle life. Although binders make up only a small proportion of LIBs, they have become the key to promoting the transformation of the battery preparation process. Along with the development of binders, the battery manufacturing process has evolved from the conventional slurry-casting (SC) process to a more attractive solvent-free (SF) method. Compared with traditional LIBs manufacturing method, the SF method could dramatically reduce and increase the energy density due to the reduced preparation steps and enhanced electrode loading. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), as a typical binder, has played an important role in fabricating high-performance LIBs, particularly in regards to the SF technique. In this paper, the development history and application status of PTFE binder was introduced, and then its contributions and the inherent problems involved in the SF process were described and analyzed. Finally, the viewpoints concerning the future trends for PTFE-based SF manufacturing methods were also discussed. We hope this work can inspire future research concerning high-quality SF binders and assist in promoting the evolution of the SF manufacturing technology in regards to LIBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

6. State of Health Estimation of Lithium-Ion Batteries Based on Multihealth Features Fusion and Improved Group Method of Data Handling

Abstract

With the widespread use of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in electric vehicles, it is essential for battery management systems (BMS) to accurately estimate the state of health (SOH) of the battery. This study constructs a regression estimation model applicable to the SOH of LIBs by combining multifeature signal analysis with a data-driven approach. First, the collected data were smoothed using advanced filtering methods to extract input features characterizing capacity degradation properties from differential thermal voltammetry (DTV) curves, incremental capacity analysis (ICA) curves, meantime decay (MTD) curves, and terminal thermal analysis (TTA) curves. Then, the extracted features are subjected to feature fusion using principal component analysis (PCA) to obtain strongly correlated features with a cumulative contribution of 98% or more as inputs to the data-driven model and the hyperparameters of the group method of data handling (GMDH) network are optimized using simulated annealing genetic algorithm (SAGA). Finally, model construction, validation, and comparison are carried out using NASA and Oxford battery datasets. The root mean square error (RMSE) between the actual measured value and the estimated value is obtained to be less than 0.3%, and the $R^{2}$ value is as high as 0.99. The results demonstrate that the approach can efficiently catch the phenomenon of capacity regeneration. It is valid and robust for SOH estimation for different types of LIBs.

Abstract

The wollastonite was grafted with different silane coupling agents, which could improve interface adhesion. Wollastonite and modified wollastonite-reinforced poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK) composites were prepared by melt blending. The mechanical properties, rheology behavior, and thermal properties of the composites were investigated. The modified wollastonite-reinforced PEEK composites exhibited better mechanical properties than the unmodified wollastonite-reinforced PEEK composites based on good interfacial adhesion. The composites had lower activation volume and complex shear viscosity. Furthermore, the modified wollastonite-reinforced PEEK composites had higher crystallization peak temperature ([T.sub.c]) and crystalline fraction ([χ.sub.c]) compared with the unmodified wollastonite-reinforced PEEK composites.
