- Abstract
We investigate the structure of the crust beneath the main island of Tierra del Fuego through a teleseismic receiver function analysis and ambient seismic noise autocorrelation using data of four available broad-band stations. The area is situated in a remote region of southern Argentina where the interaction between the South American and Scotia plates define the Magallanes-Fagnano Fault System. Crustal thickness, Vp/Vs ratios and S-wave velocity models were estimated using the H-k stacking method and the inversion of receiver functions with the Neighbourhood Algorithm. Furthermore, we applied an ambient seismic noise autocorrelation procedure to identify PmP Moho reflections at all stations. The three methods provide consistent estimates for the crustal thickness which ranges from about 24.5 km in the northern part of the Island to about 39.2 km in the south. The lowest and highest values of S-wave velocity found, in the most superficial layers of the crust, correlate with the presence of Tertiary and upper Cretacic sediments in the north and with older geological units composed by more consolidated lithologies in the south, respectively. Despite the diverse geological and tectonic settings present, our results do not change significantly for different parameters or subsidiary data sets, i.e., showing the robustness of our models which likely represent closely the local structure beneath the Island. This area is considered a very seismically active one and its crustal structure has been little explored demonstrating the importance of having new models and the necessity to increase the station coverage to allow a more detailed study of the region. Furthermore, the models presented here provide better constraints on the crustal structure, and will facilitate studies of the regional seismicity that can improve our understanding of the seismic hazard posed by earthquakes such as the magnitude 7.5 and 7.8 events that occurred in 1949. © 2018

The present investigation reports reciprocal hybrids between Citrus sunki, belonging to the "True Citrus" taxonomic group, and Severinia buxifolia of the "Primitive Citrus" group. This represents the first case of sexual hybridization between genera of distinct taxonomic groups of the subtribe Citrinae, which have several complementary agronomic and phytosanitary attributes. Thus, there exists considerable interest in determining the potential of such hybrids as rootstocks, as well as a possible genetic bridge to combine, by breeding at diploid level, nuclear and cytoplasmic genes of Severinia with Citrus and other citrus intergeneric hybrids.

- Abstract
In this study, the ambient seismic noise cross-correlation technique is applied to estimate the upper structure of the crust beneath Great Island of Tierra del Fuego (TdF), Argentina, by the analysis of short-period Rayleigh wave group velocities. The island, situated in the southernmost South America, is a key area of investigation among the interaction between the South American and Scotia plates and is considered as a very seismically active one. Through cross-correlating the vertical components of ambient seismic noise registered at four broadband stations in TdF, we were able to extract Rayleigh waves which were used to estimate group velocities in the period band of 2.5-16 s using a time-frequency analysis. Although ambient noise sources are distributed inhomogeneously, robust empirical Green's functions could be recovered from the cross-correlation of 12 months of ambient noise. The observed group velocities were inverted considering a non-linear iterative damped least-squares inversion procedure and several 1-D shear wave velocity models of the upper crust were obtained. According to the inversion results, the S-wave velocity ranges between 1.75 and 3.7 km/s in the first 10 km of crust, depending on the pair of stations considered. These results are in agreement to the major known surface and sub-surface geological and tectonic features known in the area. This study represents the first ambient seismic noise analysis in TdF in order to constraint the upper crust beneath this region. It can also be considered as a successful feasibility study for future analyses with a denser station deployment for a more detailed imaging of structure. © 2017 The Authors.

This study estimated the prevalence of anaemia and associated factors in a probability sample of 993 children aged 6-59 months in Cape Verde, West Africa. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) were estimated from a hierarchical model for multiple analysis to assess the association between anaemia and explanatory variables. The prevalence of anaemia was 51.8% (95% CI 47.7-55.8). Children who resided within poor household conditions (OR 1.99; 95% CI 1.06-3.71) were below 24 months of age (OR 3.23; 95% CI 2.03-5.15) and recently experienced diarrhoea (OR 1.58; 95% CI 0.99-2.50) were at high risk of anaemia. Anaemia should be considered a serious public-health concern in Cape Verde, mainly for children below 24 months. Further, special consideration should be given to children who have experienced recent diarrhoea and belong to families residing in poor household conditions.

We have investigated the theoretical behavior of the microstrip dc blocks on magnetized ferrite substrates. A full-wave analysis is applied to determine the effective dielectric constants and the characteristic impedances of the fundamental eigenmodes associated with the coupled lines and their frequency dependence. Numerical results are presented for the input standing wave ratio, input reflection coefficient, and transmission loss. The influence of the applied dc magnetic bias field on the transmission characteristics of these structures is also examined. A good agreement was observed for the particular cases available in the literature. Index Terms - DC block, ferrite microstrip dc block, ferrite microstrip device, microwave component.

- Abstract

The transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) family of cytokines performs a multifunctional signaling, which is integrated and coordinated in a signaling network that involves other pathways, such as Wintless, Forkhead box-O (FOXO) and Hedgehog and regulates pivotal functions related to cell fate in all tissues. In the hematopoietic system, TGF-β signaling controls a wide spectrum of biological processes, from immune system homeostasis to the quiescence and self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs). Recently an important role in post-transcription regulation has been attributed to two type of ncRNAs: microRNAs and pseudogenes. Ciona robusta, due to its philogenetic position close to vertebrates, is an excellent model to investigate mechanisms of post-transcriptional regulation evolutionarily highly conserved in immune homeostasis. The combined use of NGS and bioinformatic analyses suggests that in the pharynx, the hematopoietic organ of Ciona robusta, the Tgf-β, Wnt, Hedgehog and FoxO pathways are involved in tissue homeostasis, as they are in human. Furthermore, ceRNA network interactions and 3′UTR elements analyses of Tgf-β, Wnt, Hedgehog and FoxO pathways genes suggest that different miRNAs conserved (cin-let-7d, cin-mir-92c, cin-mir-153), species-specific (cin-mir-4187, cin-mir-4011a, cin-mir-4056, cin-mir-4150, cin-mir-4189, cin-mir-4053, cin-mir-4016, cin-mir-4075), pseudogenes (ENSCING00000011392, ENSCING00000018651, ENSCING00000007698) and mRNA 3′UTR elements are involved in post-transcriptional regulation in an integrated way in C. robusta.
