Abstract

For each degree p, we construct on any closed manifold a family of Riemannian metrics, with fixed volume such that any positive eigenvalues of the rough and Hodge Laplacians acting on differential p-forms converge to zero. In particular, on the sphere, we can choose these Riemannian metrics as those of non-negative sectional curvature. This is a generalization of the results by Colbois and Maerten in 2010 to the case of higher degree forms.

Abstract

This report describes a map construction and evaluation method based on lane-marker information for autonomous driving. Autonomous driving systems typically require digital high-definition (HD) maps to correct the current position of autonomous vehicles by using localization techniques. However, an HD map is usually costly to generate because it requires a special-purpose vehicle and mapping system with precise and expensive sensors. This report presents a map construction method that uses cost-efficient on-board cameras. We implement two types of map construction methods with two different cameras in terms of range and field of view and test their performances to determine the minimum sensor specification required for autonomous driving. This report also presents a constructed map evaluation method to determine the “usability” of the map for autonomous driving. Given that the system cannot obtain “true” positions of landmarks, the method judges whether the constructed map contains sufficient information for localization via the presented indices “lateral-distance error.” The methods are verified based on mapping and localization errors determined via manual driving tests. Furthermore, the smoothness of steering maneuvers is determined by conducting autonomous driving tests on a proving ground. The results reveal the necessary conditions of sensor requirements, i.e., the constant visibility of landmarks is one of the key factors for ego-localization to conduct autonomous driving.

14. PLA2G6-associated neurodegeneration presenting as a complicated form of hereditary spastic paraplegia

Abstract

PLA2G6-associated neurodegeneration (PLAN) comprises heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders, including infantile neuroaxonal dystrophy, neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation 2B, and Parkinson disease 14 (PARK14). In addition, very recently, PLA2G6mutations have been reported to represent a phenotype of hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP). In this study, we screened 383 HSP families to clarify the frequency of PLA2G6mutations in the Japan Spastic Paraplegia Research Consortium, and revealed the clinical characteristics of HSP with PLA2G6mutations. We found three families with compound heterozygous mutations of the PLA2G6gene, c.517 C > T/c.1634A > G, c.662 T > C/c.991 G > T, and c.1187-2 A > G/c.1933C > T, and one family with a homozygous mutation of the PLA2G6gene, c.1904G > A/c.1904G > A. All three families with compound heterozygous mutations presented a uniform phenotype of a complicated form of HSP with infantile/child-onset spastic paraplegia, cerebellar ataxia, and mental retardation. On the other hand, the family with a homozygous mutation presented a late-onset complicated form of HSP with parkinsonism. This study may extend the clinical and genetic findings for PLAN.
