2. Effective attractive polariton-polariton interaction mediated by the exciton reservoir

Abstract

We present a mechanism to endow the polariton gas with attractive interactions. The scheme relies on an exciton reservoir, which can be formed even if excitons lie outside of the light-cone. Such an attractive interaction should open new routes in the physics of quantum fluids, that we illustrate with a simple but nontrivial application whereby the polariton condensate enters the self-oscillation regime powered by the attraction from the reservoir. This results in pulsed emission in the GhZ regime.

Abstract

We provide a theoretical description of the polarization pattern and phase singularities experimentally evidenced recently in a condensate of indirect excitons [H. High et al., Nature 483, 584-588 (2012)]. We show that the averaging of the electron and hole orbital motion leads to a comparable spin-orbit interaction for both type of carriers. We demonstrate that the interplay between a radial coherent flux of bright indirect excitons and the Dresselhaus spin-orbit interaction results in the formation of spin domains and of topological defects similar to Skyrmions. We reproduce qualitatively all the features of the experimental data and obtain polarization pattern as in the optical spin Hall effect despite the different symmetry of the spin-orbit interactions.

5. Multistability of cavity exciton-polaritons affected by the thermally generated exciton reservoir

Abstract

Until now, the generation of an excitonic reservoir in a cavity polariton system under quasi-resonant pumping has always been neglected. We show that in microcavities having a small Rabi splitting (typically GaAs cavities with a single quantum well), this reservoir can be efficiently populated by polariton-phonon scattering. We consider the influence of the exciton reservoir on the energy shifts of the resonantly pumped polariton modes. We show that the presence of this reservoir effectively reduces the spin anisotropy of the polariton-polariton interaction, in agreement with recent experimental measurements, where the multistability of cavity polaritons has been analyzed, Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

We analyse the interaction of exciton and exciton-polariton condensates in semiconductor microcavity with a coherent acoustic wave. An analytical solution for the dispersion of excitations of coupled condensate-phonon system is found in the approximation of k-independent interactions. Accounting for k-dependence results in a stronger modification of the dispersion, and even in the appearance of the "roton instability" region.

Abstract

The term “space weather" characterizes a state of the near-Earth environmental space. An organism of human being represents an open system so the change of conditions in the environment including the near-Earth environmental space influences the health state of a human being.In recent years many works devoted to the effect of space weather on the life on the Earth, and the degree of such effect has been represented from a zero-order up to apocalypse. To reveal a real effect of space weather on the health of human being the international Russian- Ukrainian experiment "Geliomed" is carried out since 2005 (http://geliomed.immsp.kiev.ua) [Vishnevsky et al., 2009]. The analysis of observational set of data has allowed to show a synchronism and globality of such effect (simultaneous manifestation of space weather parameters in a state of cardiovascular system of volunteer groups removed from each other at a distance over6000 km). The response of volunteer’ cardiovascular system to the changes of space weather parameters were observed even at insignificant values of the Earth’s geomagnetic field. But even at very considerable disturbances of space weather parameters a human being healthy did not feel painful symptoms though measurements of objective physiological indices showed their changes.

Abstract

A simultaneous monitoring in evaluating of the response of a cardiovascular system of healthy volunteers was performed. The research was oriented to changes of a space weather parameters in aurural (Tixie), subauroral (Yakutsk) and medium (Saratov) areas. In each of the experimental groups there was revealed an effect of synchronization between repolarization processes of ventrical myocard responding (according to a T-wave symmetry coefficient of a cardiogram) and geomagnetic activity (according Kp-index). At rest the group effect of synchronization (GES) of myocard in geomagnetic activity change was noticed in 33,3%-61,3% of the respondents. The origin of GES has features depending on the area of habitation and an age of the volunteers. The study is performed with the partial financial support in partnership with Russian-Ukrainian grant RFFI №14-02-90424 ukr_a.

Abstract

Influence of various vulcanization activators on properties of unfilled elastomeric compositions based on synthetic polyisoprene and oil-extended butadiene-styrene rubbers is investigated. Plastoelastic and relaxation properties, and also scorching resistance and kinetics of curing of rubber mixes with traditional and composite vulcanization activators are defined. As the composite vulcanization activator “Vulkativ-FC” was used. Its feature is the lowered content of zinc oxide and presence in the composition saturated fatty acids. The correlation of elastic and strength properties of vulcanizates with type and containing of the applied activator is established.

The effect of fractional structure of the granulated nanofiber carbon filler on the electrical properties of epoxy resin composites has been investigated in this article. The conductivity and permittivity of composite materials has been measured in the frequency range of 100 Hz – 1 MHz. It was shown that the grain-size distribution of the applied filler effects the electrical properties of epoxy resin / carbon nanofiber composites.

Abstract

It is proposed to install an experimental setup in the fixed-target hall of the Nuclotron with the final goal to perform a research program focused on the production of strange matter in heavyion collisions at beam energies between 2 and 6 A GeV. The basic setup will comprise a large acceptance dipole magnet with inner tracking detector modules based on double-sided Silicon micro-strip sensors and GEMs. The outer tracking will be based on the drift chambers and straw tube detector. Particle identification will be based on the time-of-flight measurements. This setup will be sufficient perform a comprehensive study of strangeness production in heavy-ion collisions, including multi-strange hyperons, multi-strange hypernuclei, and exotic multi-strange heavy objects. These pioneering measurements would provide the first data on the production of these particles in heavy-ion collisions at Nuclotron beam energies, and would open an avenue to explore the third (strangeness) axis of the nuclear chart. The extension of the experimental program is related with the study of in-medium effects for vector mesons decaying in hadronic modes. The studies of the NN and NA reactions for the reference is assumed.

Abstract

Selenium compounds are relatively rare as minerals; there are presently only 118 known mineral species. This work is intended to codify and systematize the data of mineral systems and the thermodynamics of selenium minerals, which are unstable (selenides) or formed in near-surface environments (selenites), where the behavior of selenium is controlled by variations of the redox potential and the acidity of solutions at low temperatures and pressures. These parameters determine the migration of selenium and its precipitation as various solid phases. All selenium minerals are divided into four groups--native selenium, oxide, selenides, and oxysalts--anhydrous selenites (I) and hydrous selenites and selenates (II). Within each of the groups, minerals are codified according to the minimum number of independent elements necessary to define the composition of the mineral system. Eh--pH diagrams were calculated and plotted using the Geochemist's Workbench (GMB 9.0) software package. The Eh--pH diagrams of the Me--Se--H2O systems (where Me = Co, Ni, Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg, Ag, Bi, As, Sb, Al and Ca) were plotted for the average contents of these elements in acidic waters in the oxidation zones of sulfide deposits. The possibility of the formation of Zn, Cd, Ag and Hg selenites under natural oxidation conditions in near surface environments is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
