Abstract Lucinidae, renowned as the most diverse chemosymbiotic invertebrate group, functions as a sulfide cleaner in coastal ecosystems and is thus ecologically important. Despite their significance, genomic studies on these organisms have been limited. Here, we present the chromosome-level genome assembly of Indoaustriella scarlatoi, an intertidal lucinid clam. Employing both short and long reads, and Hi-C sequencing, we assembled a 1.58 Gb genome comprising 690 contigs with a contig N50 length of 9.00 Mb, which were anchored to 17 chromosomes. The genome exhibits a high completeness of 95.4%, as assessed by the BUSCO analysis. Transposable elements account for 56.02% of the genome, with long terminal repeat retrotransposons (LTR, 42.66%) being the most abundant. We identified 34,469 protein-coding genes, 74.43% of which were functionally annotated. This high-quality genome assembly serves as a valuable resource for further studies on the evolutionary and ecological aspects of chemosymbiotic bivalves.

Abstract Optical observations play a crucial role in monitoring space debris, and long exposure large field-of-view telescopes exhibit robust detection capabilities for identifying space debris. Nevertheless, a substantial volume of data, intricate noise, nonlinearity, and target discontinuities significantly affect the observational process. To address these intricate celestial background conditions, an enhanced YOLOv8-based method for spatial debris detection is introduced into this study. Initially, a cross-scale feature fusion module is incorporated into the neck network, followed by a subtle processing step for the feature fusion component. Finally, the content-aware reassembly of features module is employed to replace the original upsampling module, which enhances the efficiency and accuracy of feature reconstruction, thereby achieving effective detection and identification of spatial debris targets. The study utilized a dataset comprising astronomical images captured by an open-source large-field-of-view optical telescope. The experimental results show that the detection accuracy and speed of the method are improved, and that they can meet the requirements of space debris detection in complex backgrounds.

Abstract Background Lindaspio polybranchiata, a member of the Spionidae family, has been reported at the Lingshui Cold Seep, where it formed a dense population around this nascent methane vent. We sequenced and assembled the genome of L. polybranchiata and performed comparative genomic analyses to investigate the genetic basis of adaptation to the deep sea. Supporting this, transcriptomic and fatty acid data further corroborate our findings. Results We report the first genome of a deep-sea spionid, L. polybranchiata. Over long-term adaptive evolution, genes associated with vision and biological rhythmicity were lost, which may indirectly benefit oligotrophy by eliminating energetically costly processes. Compared to its shallow-sea relatives, L. polybranchiata has a significantly higher proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and expanded gene families involved in the biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and chromatin stabilization, possibly in response to high hydrostatic pressure. Additionally, L. polybranchiata has broad digestive scope, allowing it to fully utilize the limited food resources in the deep sea to sustain a large population. As a pioneer species, L. polybranchiata has an expanded repertoire of genes encoding potential chemoreceptor proteins, including ionotropic receptors (IRs) and gustatory receptor-like receptors (GRLs). These proteins, characterized by their conserved 3D structures, may enhance the organism’s ability to detect chemical cues in chemosynthetic ecosystems, facilitating rapid settlement in suitable environments. Conclusions Our results shed light on the adaptation of Lindaspio to the darkness, high hydrostatic pressure, and food deprivation in the deep sea, providing insights into the molecular basis for L. polybranchiata becoming a pioneer species.

Objective To explore endovascular treatment for patients with blood blister ⁃ like aneurysms (BBA) of the internal carotid artery (ICA). Methods and Results A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 25 patients with BBA of ICA admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University from January 2018 to January 2022 were conducted. All of them accepted endovascular treatment: 17 cases were treated with single⁃stent⁃assisted embolization, including 14 cases using Lvis stents and 3 cases using Enterprise stents; 4 cases were treated with double⁃stent⁃assisted embolization, all using Lvis stents; one case was treated with overlapping stent implantation, including 2 Lvis stents and one Enterprise stent; one case was treated with balloon ⁃assisted embolization, and 2 cases were treated with Tubridge flow diverter. No aneurysm rupture occurred during the surgery. One patient had intra ⁃ stent thrombosis during the procedure, while other 24 patients showed smooth blood flow on postoperative immediate DSA. The Raymond classification showed that among the patients, there were 17 cases of grade Ⅰ occlusion, 3 cases of grade Ⅱ occlusion, and 5 cases of grade Ⅲ occlusion. Postoperative complications included cerebral infarction (2 cases), cerebral vasospasm due to subarachnoid hemorrhage (one case), and hydrocephalus (2 cases). Six patients had aneurysm recurrence postoperatively (3 cases using a single Enterprise stent, one case using 2 Lvis stents, one case using Tubridge flow diverter, and one case using a balloon ⁃ assisted embolization), among whom 5 patients underwent repeat stent ⁃ assisted embolization treatment. And one patient still had recurrence after treatment but achieved cure by adjusting antiplatelet therapy regimen; one patient recovered by adjusting antiplatelet therapy regimen. At 12 months after surgery, the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores were as follows: 0 in 15 cases, 1 in 6 cases, 2 in 3 cases, and 6 in one case. The disability rate was 12% (3/25), and the mortality rate was 4% (1/25). Conclusions The degree of immediate postoperative occlusion is crucial for preventing aneurysm recurrence postoperatively. For recurrent BBA of ICA, adjustment of antiplatelet therapy should be considered first.

Abstract Background Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has developed a rich theoretical system and practical experience in fighting to infectious diseases over the past thousands of years, and has played an important role in controlling the spread owing to its unique advantages. In particular, its significant contribution to the prevention and control of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is widely recognized. COVID-19 infection is mainly non-severe with a favorable overall outcome, but patients with comorbidities tend to have a poor prognosis. However, a comprehensive review of TCM for preventing and treating COVID-19 with comorbidities across various systems is still lacking. Hence, this scoping review aims to conduct a comprehensive investigation on treatment outcome of TCM for treating COVID-19 with comorbidities across various systems. Methods The scoping review was conducted by searching English databases including PubMed and Web of Science, and Chinese databases including China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang between January 2020 and January 2024. We followed the inclusion and exclusion criteria to identify relevant literature. Information for inclusion in the literature were subsequently extracted and consolidated. Results We enrolled 13 literature that met the inclusion criteria in the review finally. Our analysis revealed that research on COVID-19 with comorbidities was mostly focused on circulatory diseases, including hypertension, heart failure, and cerebrovascular diseases, most common comorbidities were hypertension. Followed by endocrine and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, respiratory diseases including pulmonary tuberculosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have been also addressed. However, there were few studies on co-infectious urogenital system disease, and no studies on the rheumatic, immune, hematological, nervous, reproductive, and skin systems diseases. Based on existing studies, TCM has significantly improved the clinical symptoms of COVID-19 with comorbidities such as fever, fatigue, dry cough, anorexia and asthma, the absorption of lung lesions, shortened the duration of viral shedding and the course of disease. Conclusions TCM has great application prospects in treating COVID-19 with comorbidities. These findings could provide important evidence for clinicians to treat COVID-19 with comorbidities. Multi-center studies are required to confirm our results in the future. Graphical Abstract

Background: Prolonged bradycardia leads to inadequate pumping of the heart, causing myocardial ischemia, which in turn affects cardiac function. Depending on its clinical features, improving the AV node conduction block may be an important tool to inhibit the progression of the disease. Lingbao Huxin Dan, which consists of several traditional Chinese medicines, is used for conditions similar to bradycardia and may be a potential therapeutic agent for bradycardia. In this experiment, we investigated its therapeutic significance and possible therapeutic targets for sinus bradycardia. Methods: The bradycardia model of SD rats was prepared by using acetylcholine, propranolol, and verapamil respectively, and treated with Lingbao Huxin Dan for 3 weeks. At the end of treatment, the rats' ECG was recorded using a PV-LOOP heart rate recorder. The hearts and serum samples were collected to detect heart rate and related gene expression which were screened through network pharmacology analysis, as well as to evaluate the effect of Lingbao Huxin Dan on ion channels in the cardiac conduction system. Results: Lingbao Huxin Dan improved the heart rate in the bradycardia model of SD rats and inhibited AV node conduction block by targeting ion channel proteins in the cardiac conduction system. The underlying molecular mechanism may be the activation of the β-adrenergic receptor-dependent cAMP/PKA signaling pathway targeted to enhance the expression of the pacing channel HCN4. In addition, Lingbao Huxin Dan prevented the deterioration of bradycardia by promoting the production of the oxygen radical scavenger SOD and inhibiting the upregulation of LDH due to cardiomyocyte damage. Conclusions: Our study proved that Lingbao Huxin Dan alleviated bradycardia by downregulating CX45 and enhancing the expression of HCN4, ADRβ1, and TRPM7 to shorten the atrioventricular node induction period and improve sinoatrial node signaling. In addition, Lingbao Huxin Dan relieved myocardial injury induced by bradycardia by reducing the level of oxygen free radicals in the cardiac microenvironment.

Abstract Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive cancer type that lacks targeted treatment options. Ferroptosis, a novel therapeutic strategy, induces cell death by disrupting the oxidative-reductive balance. Hesperetin, a potential TNBC therapeutic drug, has unidentified regulatory targets. The objective of this study was to explore the potential targets of hesperetin in TNBC and investigate whether the nanocomposites carrier hesperetin-loaded ferroptosis-inducing nanocomposites (HFPN), which activates ferroptosis, can enhance the anti-tumor efficacy of hesperetin. Bioinformatics methods were employed to screen hesperetin targets in TNBC, and a molecular docking model between hesperetin and the core target aurora kinase A (AURKA) was successfully constructed. The stability and anti-tumor activity of HFPN were validated in cell and mouse models, including tumor suppression and increased radiation sensitivity. These results suggest that HFPN can regulate the core target AURKA in TNBC, disrupt tumor oxidative-reductive balance, promote ferroptosis in tumor cells, and ultimately enhance the effectiveness of radiation therapy for TNBC. Abstract Background Locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) poses unique challenges in treatment, with current neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NA-CRT) showing limitations. The CapeOX regimen emerges as a potential less aggressive neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) for LARC. Methods We conducted a retrospective study involving treatment-naïve patients with LARC from March 2014 to March 2021 who received 2–4 cycles of CapeOX NAC followed by radical surgery. Treatment response was evaluated using tumor regression grade (TRG), MRI-based TRG (MRI-TRG), and Neoadjuvant Rectal (NAR) score. Background: In the recent decade, there has been substantial progress in the technologies and philosophies associated with diagnosing and treating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in China. The therapeutic efficacy of ACL reconstruction in re-establishing the stability of the knee joint has garnered widespread acknowledgment. However, the path toward standardizing diagnostic and treatment protocols remains to be further developed and refined. Objective: In this context, the Chinese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (CAOS) and the Chinese Society of Sports Medicine (CSSM) collaboratively developed an expert consensus on diagnosing and treating ACL injury, aiming to enhance medical quality through refining professional standards. Methods: The consensus drafting team invited experts across the Greater China region, including the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, to formulate and review the consensus using a modified Delphi method as a standardization approach. As members of the CSSM Lower Limb Study Group and the CAOS Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Study Group, invited experts concentrated on two pivotal issues: “Graft Selection” and “Clinical Outcome Evaluation” during the second part of the consensus development. Results: This focused discussion ultimately led to a strong consensus on nine specific consensus terms. Conclusion: The consensus clearly states that ACL reconstruction has no definitive “gold standard” graft choice. Autografts have advantages in healing capability but are limited in availability and have potential donor site morbidities; allografts reduce surgical trauma but incur additional costs, and there are concerns about slow healing, quality control issues, and a higher failure rate in young athletes; synthetic ligaments allow for early rehabilitation and fast return to sport, but the surgery is technically demanding and incurs additional costs. When choosing a graft, one should comprehensively consider the graft's characteristics, the doctor's technical ability, and the patient's needs. When evaluating clinical outcomes, it is essential to ensure an adequate sample size and follow-up rate, and the research should include patient subjective scoring, joint function and stability, complications, surgical failure, and the return to sport results. Medium and long-term follow-ups should not overlook the assessment of knee osteoarthritis.

Abstract Background How to mobilize nurses students' learning initiative, reduce the incidence of academic procrastination, and improve their social adaptability is a key factor in lowering nursing brain drain and improving nursing quality. Objective To explore the mediating role of resilience in the correlation between social adaptability and academic procrastination of undergraduate nursing students. Methods This study is a cross-sectional survey. The researchers conducted an electronic questionnaire survey of 962 nursing undergraduates in Guanzhong District, Shaanxi Province from November 2022 to April 2023, and adopted the intention sampling method. And make the following assumptions: (1) There is a significant negative correlation between academic procrastination and social adaptability. (2) Academic procrastination can directly affect the social adaptability of undergraduate nursing students, and it has a significant negative predictive effect. (3) Resilience can directly affect academic procrastination and social adaptability. At the same time, resilience plays an intermediary role between the two. In this study, the Aitken procrastination scale, the resilience scale, and the social adaptability diagnostic scale were used to evaluate undergraduate nursing students. SPSS27.0 software is used to analyze the data statistically, and the Hayes PROCESS Macro method is used to test the model. Results The study's findings are as follows: 1) Academic procrastination significantly and negatively impacts social adaptability (c = -0.292, t = -6.407, p < 0.001). 2) Even when accounting for resilience, academic procrastination still significantly predicts lower social adaptability (c′= -0.204, t = -4.338, p < 0.001). 3) The Bootstrap method test of percentile bias correction indicates that resilience serves as a significant mediator between academic procrastination and social adaptability. Bootstrap SE = 0.018, 95% CI = (-0.124, -0.055). The indirect effect contributes to 29.79% of the total effect. Conclusion Resilience not only directly affects the academic procrastination and social adaptability of nursing students, but also partially intermediate the relationship between academic procrastination and social adaptability.

Abstract In the healing process of myocardial infarction, cardiac fibroblasts are activated to produce collagen, leading to adverse remodeling and heart failure. Our previous study showed that ASPP1 promotes cardiomyocyte apoptosis by enhancing the nuclear trafficking of p53. We thus explored the influence of ASPP1 on myocardial fibrosis and the underlying mechanisms. Here, we observed that ASPP1 was increased after 4 weeks of MI. Both global and myofibroblast knockout of ASPP1 in mice mitigated cardiac dysfunction and fibrosis after MI. Strikingly, ASPP1 produced the opposite influence on p53 level and cell fate in cardiac fibroblasts and cardiomyocytes. Knockdown of ASPP1 increased p53 levels and inhibited the activity of cardiac fibroblasts. ASPP1 accumulated in the cytoplasm of fibroblasts while the level of p53 was reduced following TGF-β1 stimulation; however, inhibition of ASPP1 increased the p53 level and promoted p53 nuclear translocation. Mechanistically, ASPP1 is directly bound to deubiquitinase OTUB1, thereby promoting the ubiquitination and degradation of p53, attenuating myofibroblast activity and cardiac fibrosis, and improving heart function after MI.

Abstract Background Circular RNAs (circRNAs), produced by reverse splicing, act as important players in human cancers. We aimed to assess the biological functions of circRNA pituitary homeobox 1 (circ‐PITX1) in non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods qRT‐PCR was employed to determine RNA expression. Biological behaviors of NSCLC cells were assessed by CCK‐8, colony formation, EdU assay, flow cytometry, wound healing, and transwell assays. Glutamine catabolism was examined via the measurement of glutamine consumption, α‐ketoglutarate levels, as well as ATP levels. Protein levels were detected by western blot assays. Dual‐luciferase reporter assay and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay were performed to reveal the mechanism responsible for circ‐PITX1 regulating NSCLC cell malignancy. The murine xenograft model was established to investigate circ‐PITX1's effect on tumor formation. Results Circ‐PITX1 was overexpressed in NSCLC tissue samples and cells. Its low expression repressed NSCLC cell proliferation and motility. Moreover, our data revealed its downregulation inhibited glutamine catabolism and tumor formation and promoted cell apoptosis. In addition, circ‐PITX1 bound to miR‐615‐5p, and its inhibitory effect on tumor cellular behaviors could be reversed after decreasing miR‐615‐5p expression. The miRNA targeted E26 transformation specific‐1 (ETS1), whose upregulation abolished miR‐615‐5p overexpression‐induced effects in NSCLC cells. Furthermore, circ‐PITX1 positively modulated ETS1 production through interaction with miR‐615‐5p. Conclusion Circ‐PITX1 facilitated NSCLC progression via modulating miR‐615‐5p/ETS1 pathway.

Solar filaments are believed to be a clump of cold plasma accumulated in the magnetic dips. However, the magnetic configuration of filaments and the key factors for their formation remains elusive. In this Letter, we present a detailed study of the formation and eruption of a multifilament system with observations and simulations. Before the filament appeared visible, the chromospheric fibrils gradually gathered together, evolving from a diffuse distribution into threadlike structures that were nearly parallel to the polarity inversion lines. On 2022 March 20, an arch filament first appeared showing high dynamics, and subsequently two reserved S-shaped filaments were visibly observed. These two filament segments further reconnected, forming a long coherent filament and resulting in a double-decker configuration. In addition, continuous converging motion and magnetic flux cancellation were found in the photosphere during the evolution. Simultaneously, more bald patch structures appeared at the polarities' collision position. Through a data-driven numerical simulation, we further reconstructed the coronal magnetic field, which is composed of two twisted magnetic flux ropes (MFRs) with their bottom touching the photosphere, along with a group of sheared arcades forming an X-shaped configuration. These findings suggest that the magnetic configuration of the filament is in a highly dynamic state, evolving from a hybrid to a coherent MFR. Moreover, we propose that the formation and eruption of the multifilament system are closely related to magnetic reconnection taking place on the photosphere and in the lower corona, respectively, both mainly driven by the photospheric converging motion.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic and inflammatory skin disorder characterized by impaired barrier function and imbalanced immunity. Recent advances have revealed that dysbiosis of skin microbiota plays important roles in the pathogenesis and development of AD. Meanwhile, endogenous and external factors contribute to the dysbiosis of skin microbiota in AD. Additionally, various treatments, including topical treatments, phototherapy, and systemic biologics, have demonstrated positive impacts on the clinical outcomes, alongside with the modulations of cutaneous microbiota in AD patients. Importantly, therapeutics or products regulating skin microbiota homeostasis have demonstrated potential for AD treatment in early clinical studies. In this review, we underline changes of the skin microbiota correlated with AD. Meanwhile, we provide an overview of the skin microbiota regarding its roles in the pathogenesis and development of AD. Finally, we summarize therapeutic strategies restoring the skin microbial homeostasis in AD management.

Summary: This article aims to develop and validate a pathological prognostic model for predicting prognosis in patients with isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutant gliomas and reveal the biological underpinning of the prognostic pathological features. The pathomic model was constructed based on whole slide images (WSIs) from a training set (N = 486) and evaluated on internal validation set (N = 209), HPPH validation set (N = 54), and TCGA validation set (N = 352). Biological implications of PathScore and individual pathomic features were identified by pathogenomics set (N = 100). The WSI-based pathological signature was an independent prognostic factor. Incorporating the pathological features into a clinical model resulted in a pathological-clinical model that predicted survival better than either the pathological model or clinical model alone. Ten categories of pathways (metabolism, proliferation, immunity, DNA damage response, disease, migrate, protein modification, synapse, transcription and translation, and complex cellular functions) were significantly correlated with the WSI-based pathological features.

Dystrophin is a critical interacting protein of Nav1.5 that determines its membrane anchoring in cardiomyocytes. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in the regulation of cardiac ion channels, while their influence on sodium channels remains unexplored. Our preliminary data showed that lncRNA-Dachshund homolog 1 (lncDach1) can bind to dystrophin, which drove us to investigate if lncDach1 can regulate sodium channels by interfering with dystrophin. Western blot and immunofluorescent staining showed that cardiomyocyte-specific transgenic overexpression of lncDach1 (lncDach1-TG) reduced the membrane distribution of dystrophin and Nav1.5 in cardiomyocytes. Meanwhile, peak INa was reduced in the hearts of lncDach1-TG mice than wild-type (WT) controls. The opposite data of western blot, immunofluorescent staining and patch clamp were collected from lncDach1 cardiomyocyte conditional knockout (lncDach1-cKO) mice. Moreover, increased ventricular arrhythmia susceptibility was observed in lncDach1-TG mice in vivo and ex vivo. The conservative fragment of lncDach1 inhibited membrane distribution of dystrophin and Nav1.5, and promoted the inducibility of ventricular arrhythmia. Strikingly, activation of Dystrophin transcription by dCas9-SAM system in lncDach1-TG mice rescued the impaired membrane distribution of dystrophin and Nav1.5, and prevented the occurrence of ventricular arrhythmia. Furthermore, lncDach1 was increased in transaortic constriction (TAC) induced failing hearts, which promoted the inducibility of ventricular arrhythmia. And the expression of lncDach1 is regulated by hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase subunit beta (hadhb), which binds to lncDach1 and decreases its stability. The human homologue of lncDACH1 inhibited the membrane distribution of Nav1.5 in human iPS-differentiated cardiomyocytes. The findings provide novel insights into the mechanism of Nav1.5 membrane targeting and the development of ventricular arrhythmias.

In this study, manganese oxide supported biochar (MBC) was used as a catalyst of periodate (PI) for the oxidative degradation of sulfonamide antibiotic sulfamethazine (SMZ). The degradation rate of 10 mg/L SMZ reached 99 % in 60 min in the MBC/PI system, and the optimal condition was pH 3.5, 0.12 g/L of MBC, and 0.17 mM of PI. Combined with quenching experiment and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) characterization, it was determined that the reactive oxygen species (ROS) participating in the reaction include iodate radical (IO3∙), singlet oxygen (1O2), and hydroxyl radical (∙OH). ROS, Mn(III) and electron transfer are three crucial SMZ removal mechanisms in MBC activated PI system, and the conversion process of reactive species was deduced. The manganese redox cycles, oxygen-containing functional groups on MBC surface, and BC-O-Mn(II) complex participated in reactive species production. The loading of manganese oxide increases the number of oxygen-containing functional group on the surface of BC, and BC-O-Mn(II) complex formation resulted in the higher catalytic activity compared with BC. Ten SMZ oxidative products and four transformation pathways was identified. This study provided an efficient and practical method to remove sulfonamide antibiotics and revealed its theoretical mechanism.

Polarization camera based on CMOS sensor and nano wire-grid technology have found widespread applications in medical diagnostics, remote sensing and industrial inspection. However, the limited filtering properties of wire-grid polarizers and the small field-of-view provided by conventional microlens restrict the energy efficiency of these systems while also increasing their cost, size and weight. In this study, we propose an innovative approach that integrates focusing and splitting of polarization states into a single-layer all-dielectric metasurface. This metasurface enables full-Stokes polarization imaging for a wide field-of-view conical light. The design of the metasurface utilizes a phase compensation method to effectively focus orthogonal polarized conical light onto the central pixel of the CMOS sensor. Theoretical analysis demonstrates that this metasurface can accurately detect full-Stokes parameters within ±20° incident cone angles with an average efficiency reaching 83.0%. The angle can be extended to ±90° with an average efficiency exceeding 80%. We fabricated a three super-pixel metasurface prototype, and experimental measurements reveal its ability to efficiently focus and split three pairs of orthogonal polarization states under ±11° conical angle incidence with an average focusing efficiency of 68.1%. This study presents a promising solution for achieving wide field-of-view and high-efficiency polarization detection in integrated CMOS systems.

ABSTRACT The transition from water to land of amphibians is evolutionarily significant in the history of vertebrates, and immunological adaptation is an important challenge for amphibians to respond to the dramatic changes of the environmental pathogens during their origin and diversification. Toll‐like receptors (TLRs) are important pattern recognition receptors for the innate immune response and TLRs signaling pathway play essential roles in the immune responses to pathogens and inflammatory reaction. However, the evolutionary patterns and molecular mechanisms underlying their adaptation in amphibians are poorly documented to date. Here, we determined the coding regions, expression patterns of TLR2 and Myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88) in the large treefrog (Zhangixalus dennysi), and explored the evolutionary patterns of these two genes in amphibians. Quantitative Real‐time PCR analyses showed that the TLR2 and MyD88 mRNA were expressed in all the organs/tissues examined, both with the highest levels in the heart and the lowest levels in the body fat for TLR2 and lung for MyD88. The highly conservation and functional significance of these two genes in amphibians were supported based on the sequence characteristics and evolutionary analyses. Significantly positive selection was found to be acting on TLR2 and MyD88 in amphibians based on different site models. Strong signal of positive selection among different amphibian lineages for these two genes was also detected and a series of positively selected sites were identified based on the branch‐site analysis. Our results suggest that amphibians have adapted to different pathogenic microorganisms during their transition from the aquatic to terrestrial environment and diversification into various habitats. The present study will provide new insights into the evolutionary process and molecular basis underlying the immunological adaptation in vertebrates.

To strengthen the practicality of the periodic reciprocating flow (PRF)regeneration of diesel particulate filter (DPF), a compact structure of PRF-DPF system with diesel vapor injection is developed. An experimental study is carried out about the regeneration characteristics of the PRF-DPF system. The results show that U-type passage structure can form a new heat recovery mechanism of PRF through internal heat conduction, in which a temperature fluctuation cycle within each forward flow or backward flow is formed; the complete oxidation of HCs can be achieved as a diesel vaporizer be installed at about 330 mm in front of the entrance end of DPF catalyzer, and the wider middle region can be kept at 400–520 °C through supplying 5.0 ml/min −20# diesel vapor at a 12.4 kW engine load; As injected 7.0 ml/min −10# diesel vapor at a 11.8 kW engine load, the PRF can provide the simultaneous process conditions of C-NO2, C–NO2–O2 and C-O2 reactions and remove particulate matter (PM), thus and the filtration efficiency of PM can be higher than 99 %.

Abstract Multicolor tuning of persistent luminescence has been extensively studied by deliberately integrating various luminescent units, known as activators or chromophores, into certain host compounds. However, it remains a formidable challenge to fine-tune the persistent luminescence spectra either in organic materials, such as small molecules, polymers, metal-organic complexes and carbon dots, or in doped inorganic crystals. Herein, we present a strategy to delicately control the persistent luminescence wavelength by engineering sub-bandgap donor-acceptor states in a series of single-phase Ca(Sr)ZnOS crystals. The persistent luminescence emission peak can be quasi-linearly tuned across a broad wavelength range (500–630 nm) as a function of Sr/Ca ratio, achieving a precision down to ~5 nm. Theoretical calculations reveal that the persistent luminescence wavelength fine-tuning stems from constantly lowered donor levels accompanying the modified band structure by Sr alloying. Besides, our experimental results show that these crystals exhibit a high initial luminance of 5.36 cd m− 2 at 5 sec after charging and a maximum persistent luminescence duration of 6 h. The superior, color-tunable persistent luminescence enables a rapid, programable patterning technique for high-throughput optical encryption.

Abstract Deep learning models have been developed for various predictions in glioma; yet, they were constrained by manual segmentation, task-specific design, or a lack of biological interpretation. Herein, we aimed to develop an end-to-end multi-task deep learning (MDL) pipeline that can simultaneously predict molecular alterations and histological grade (auxiliary tasks), as well as prognosis (primary task) in gliomas. Further, we aimed to provide the biological mechanisms underlying the model’s predictions. We collected multiscale data including baseline MRI images from 2776 glioma patients across two private (FAHZU and HPPH, n = 1931) and three public datasets (TCGA, n = 213; UCSF, n = 410; and EGD, n = 222). We trained and internally validated the MDL model using our private datasets, and externally validated it using the three public datasets. We used the model-predicted deep prognosis score (DPS) to stratify patients into low-DPS and high-DPS subtypes. Additionally, a radio-multiomics analysis was conducted to elucidate the biological basis of the DPS. In the external validation cohorts, the MDL model achieved average areas under the curve of 0.892–0.903, 0.710–0.894, and 0.850–0.879 for predicting IDH mutation status, 1p/19q co-deletion status, and tumor grade, respectively. Moreover, the MDL model yielded a C-index of 0.723 in the TCGA and 0.671 in the UCSF for the prediction of overall survival. The DPS exhibits significant correlations with activated oncogenic pathways, immune infiltration patterns, specific protein expression, DNA methylation, tumor mutation burden, and tumor-stroma ratio. Accordingly, our work presents an accurate and biologically meaningful tool for predicting molecular subtypes, tumor grade, and survival outcomes in gliomas, which provides personalized clinical decision-making in a global and non-invasive manner.

Abstract Brain function is vulnerable to the consequences of inadequate sleep, an adverse trend that is increasingly prevalent. The REM sleep phase has been implicated in coordinating various brain structures and is hypothesized to have potential links to brain variability. However, traditional imaging research have encountered challenges in attributing specific brain region activity to REM sleep, remained understudied at the whole-brain connectivity level. Through the spilt-night paradigm, distinct patterns of REM sleep phases were observed among the full-night sleep group (n = 36), the early-night deprivation group (n = 41), and the late-night deprivation group (n = 36). We employed connectome-based predictive modeling (CPM) to delineate the effects of REM sleep deprivation on the functional connectivity of the brain (REM connectome) during its resting state. The REM sleep-brain connectome was characterized by stronger connectivity within the default mode network (DMN) and between the DMN and visual networks, while fewer predictive edges were observed. Notably, connections such as those between the cingulo-opercular network (CON) and the auditory network, as well as between the subcortex and visual networks, also made significant contributions. These findings elucidate the neural signatures of REM sleep loss and reveal common connectivity patterns across individuals, validated at the group level.

Abstract Outlet short circuit on the low‐voltage (LV) side and winding inter‐turn short circuit faults are hazardous to transformer operation. To investigate the formation mechanism of winding insulation faults of distribution transformer, ANSYS Maxwell was used to build a coupled magnetic field‐circuit model with the same structural dimension as the actual distribution transformer. An outlet short circuit and winding inter‐turn insulation faults were set by using the voltage‐controlled switch in the external circuit of the model. Subsequently, the differences in the electromagnetic characteristics and the electrodynamic force distributions of the windings under three operating conditions, namely, nominal load, three‐phase outlet short circuit on the LV side and inter‐turn insulation failure were studied, respectively. The results show that compared with the rated load, in the cases of outlet short circuit and inter‐turn insulation faults, the amplitude of winding current increases by 20 and 50 times, the magnetic field strength grows by 20 and 17 times, and the electrodynamic force rises by 400 and 230 times, respectively. Outlet short circuit fault is more likely to cause the winding instability and deformation, and inter‐turn short circuit fault can easily burn out winding insulation. Therefore, corresponding preventive measures were proposed.

Powder metallurgy (PM) is a highly effective re-processing method mostly used for magnesium-base alloys, especially in high-performance Mg alloys. In the present work, the experimental and optimization of PM process parameters, including compaction pressure, sintering temperature, and sintering time, for AZ31 magnesium alloy have been investigated using Taguchi Design of Experiment (DOE) and ANOVA method. The regression equation for obtaining density, porosity, and hardness of AZ31 Mg alloy has been formulated and experimentally validated. Three parameters are dependent in the current work, 450, 550, and 600 MPa compaction pressure, 455, 520, and 585ºC sintering temperature, and 30, 60, and 90 min sintering time. It was found that the factors determined beyond analyzing the main effect plots for means is an amalgamation of a compaction pressure (600 MPa), a temperature (585ºC) of sintering, and a time (60 min) of sintering. The optimal density, porosity, and hardness values determined from the regression equations are 1.82 g/cm3, 3.4%, and 72.10 HV, correspondingly. The experimental density, porosity, and hardness values for the samples treated at the optimum factors are 1.73 g/cm3, 2.2%, and 74.51 HV. The percentage error between the investigational outcomes and the outcomes resulted is < 3% for density, porosity, and hardness. The analysis ANOVA also found that the compaction pressure is the highly effective factor in the density, porosity, and hardness of sintered samples, followed by the same effective sintering temperature and time.

Transverse testicular sections are often used for histopathological studies and length of seminiferous tubules in the testis is often estimated by the tubule volume divided by the tubules’ cross-sectional area, with the area being obtained by measuring the (short axial) diameters of the round (or elliptical) tubule profiles. But unbiased stereological length estimation is best based on counting of tubule profiles on isotropic sections. To determine the bias of length estimation with the diameter measurement, (i) transverse sections (methacrylate embedded) were obtained from a testis of each normal mature male Sprague-Dawley rat (10 rats in total) and isotropic sections obtained (with the orientator) from the other testis of the rat, and (ii) the tubule length densities were estimated with both methods of profile counting and diameter measurement. The results demonstrated that the method of diameter measurement on transverse or isotropic sections overestimated the length density by 20%-25% compared with profile counting on isotropic sections, probably mainly because of underestimation of the tubules’ cross-sectional area estimated from the short-axial diameters. Length density of the epididymal duct in the epididymis was also estimated with profile counting in the present study, using transverse and isotropic sections for comparison, and a significant statistical difference was not found between the results obtained with the transverse and isotropic sections.

For stereological estimates of structures in an organ such as total number (particles), length or surface area, the tissue change after processing (usually embedding of tissue blocks, sectioning of embedded blocks, and mounting and staining of sections) may need to be estimated to correct the results obtained on final sections so as to reflect the true results in the organ before processing. We proposed that the correction be made depending on the stereological principle used: correction for estimation with 3-dimensional and 2-dimensional measurements be based on different tissue volume and section area changes. Previous researches on tissue changes were limited and overlooked different corrections. Using paraffin and methacrylate embedded testicular sections, we studied, with an unbiased design, the tissue volume and section area changes after processing. The results demonstrated that the overall change of the actual tissue volume of paraffin sections was a marked shrinkage of 21%-23% while that of methacrylate sections was a small expansion almost negligible; compared with area of the embedded block face, the final section area had a 4% decrease in paraffin but an 8% increase in methacrylate. The results were tentatively used for correction of estimates in some of previous studies. The present study provides both methods and data for experiments involving the study of tissue change for better stereological estimation.

Sediment plays a pivotal role in deep-sea ecosystems by providing habitats for a diverse range of microorganisms and facilitates the cycling processes of carbon, sulfur and nitrogen. Beyond the normal seafloor (NS), distinctive geographical features such as cold seeps (CS) and hydrothermal vent (HV) are recognized as life oases harboring highly diverse microbial communities. A global atlas of microorganisms can reveal the notable association between geological processes and microbial colonization. However, a comprehensive understanding of the systematic comparison of microbial communities in sediments across various deep-sea regions worldwide and their contributions to Earth's elemental cycles remains limited. Analyzing metagenomic data from 163 deep-sea sediment samples across 73 locations worldwide revealed that microbial communities in CS sediments exhibited the highest richness and diversity, followed by HV sediments, with NS sediments showing the lowest diversity. The NS sediments were predominantly inhabited by Nitrosopumilaceae, a type of ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA). In contrast, CSs and HVs were dominated by ANME-1, a family of anaerobic methane-oxidizing archaea (ANME), and Desulfofervidaceae, a family of sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), respectively. Microbial networks were established for each ecosystem to analyze the relationships and interactions among different microorganisms. Additionally, we analyzed the metabolic patterns of microbial communities in different deep-sea sediments. Despite variations in carbon fixation pathways in ecosystems with different oxygen concentrations, carbon metabolism remains the predominant biogeochemical cycle in deep-sea sediments. Benthic ecosystems exhibit distinct microbial potentials for sulfate reduction, both assimilatory and dissimilatory sulfate reduction (ASR and DSR), in response to different environmental conditions. The presence of nitrogen-fixing microorganisms in CS sediments may influence the global nitrogen balance. In this study, the significant differences in the taxonomic composition and functional potential of microbial communities inhabiting various deep-sea environments were investigated. Our findings emphasize the importance of conducting comparative studies on ecosystems to reveal the complex interrelationships between marine sediments and global biogeochemical cycles.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to identify independent risk factors affecting patient survival and explore predictors of severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).MethodsWe conducted a retrospective, observational, case–control study on adult patients with severe COVID-19 who were admitted to affiliated hospitals in Tianjin between December 18, 2022, and January 31, 2023. We used univariate and multifactorial logistic regression analyses to analyze demographic indicators, comorbidity profiles, and laboratory parameters in two groups of patients (deceased and surviving) to identify independent risk factors for death in patients with severe COVID-19.ResultsPatients in the deceased group were older than those in the survival group (p = 0.018), and there were more cases of coexisting respiratory insufficiency in the deceased group (p = 0.002). Additionally, laboratory test results for white blood cell count (WBC) and creatine kinase (CK) showed significantly higher values in the deceased group (p = 0.047 and p = 0.029, respectively), while arterial oxygen partial pressure (PAO2) showed significantly lower values compared to the survival group (p = 0.021). Age, respiratory insufficiency, WBCH (highest WBC value), CKH (highest CK value), and PAO2F (first PAO2 value) had area under curve (AUC) values of 0.698, 0.838, 0.721, 0.744, and 0.633, respectively.ConclusionThe main risk factors for mortality in patients with severe COVID-19 that we identified in this study were the advanced age of patients, coexisting respiratory insufficiency, elevated levels of WBC and CK, and decreased levels of PAO2. Elevated WBC and CK laboratory parameters, in particular, demonstrated good predictive value for in-hospital mortality risk.

BackgroundTelehealth interventions where providers offer support and coaching to patients with chronic conditions such as heart failure (HF) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are effective in improving health outcomes. However, the understanding of the content and structure of these interactions and how they relate to health care utilization remains incomplete. ObjectiveThis study aimed to characterize the content and structure of telecare conversations on lifestyle management for patients with HF and investigate how these conversations relate to health care utilization. MethodsWe leveraged real-world data from 50 patients with HF enrolled in a postdischarge telehealth program, with the primary intervention comprising a series of telephone calls from nurse telecarers over a 12-month period. For the full cohort, we transcribed 729 English-language calls and annotated conversation topics. For a subcohort (25 patients with both HF and T2DM), we annotated lifestyle management content with fine-grained dialogue acts describing typical conversational structures. For each patient, we identified calls with unusually high ratios of utterances on lifestyle management as lifestyle-focused calls. We further extracted structured data for inpatient admissions from 6 months before to 6 months after the intervention period. First, to understand conversational structures and content of lifestyle-focused calls, we compared the number of utterances, dialogue acts, and symptom attributes in lifestyle-focused calls to those in calls containing but not focused on lifestyle management. Second, to understand the perspectives of nurse telecarers on these calls, we conducted an expert evaluation where 2 nurse telecarers judged levels of concern and follow-up actions for lifestyle-focused and other calls (not focused on lifestyle management content). Finally, we assessed how the number of lifestyle-focused calls relates to the number of admissions, and to the average length of stay per admission. ResultsIn comparative analyses, lifestyle-focused calls had significantly fewer utterances (P=.01) and more dialogue acts (Padj=.005) than calls containing but not focused on lifestyle management. Lifestyle-focused calls did not contain deeper discussions on clinical symptoms. These findings indicate that lifestyle-focused calls entail short, intense discussions with greater emphasis on understanding patient experience and coaching than on clinical content. In the expert evaluation, nurse telecarers identified 24.2% (29/120) of calls assessed as concerning enough for follow-up. For these 29 calls, nurse telecarers were more attuned to concerns about symptoms and vitals (19/29, 65.5%) than lifestyle management concerns (4/29, 13.8%). The number of lifestyle-focused calls a patient had was modestly (but not significantly) associated with a lower average length of stay for inpatient admissions (Spearman ρ=-0.30; Padj=.06), but not with the number of admissions (Spearman ρ=-0.03; Padj=.84). ConclusionsOur approach and findings offer novel perspectives on the content, structure, and clinical associations of telehealth conversations on lifestyle management for patients with HF. Hence, our study could inform ways to enhance telehealth programs for self-care management in chronic conditions.

Abstract Viruses are crucial for regulating deep-sea microbial communities and biogeochemical cycles. However, their roles are still less characterized in deep-sea holobionts. Bathymodioline mussels are endemic species inhabiting cold seeps and harboring endosymbionts in gill epithelial cells for nutrition. This study unveiled a diverse array of viruses in the gill tissues of Gigantidas platifrons mussels and analyzed the viral metagenome and transcriptome from the gill tissues of Gigantidas platifrons mussels collected from a cold seep in the South Sea. The mussel gills contained various viruses including Baculoviridae, Rountreeviridae, Myoviridae and Siphovirdae, but the active viromes were Myoviridae, Siphoviridae, and Podoviridae belonging to the order Caudovirales. The overall viral community structure showed significant variation among environments with different methane concentrations. Transcriptome analysis indicated high expression of viral structural genes, integrase, and restriction endonuclease genes in a high methane concentration environment, suggesting frequent virus infection and replication. Furthermore, two viruses (GP-phage-contig14 and GP-phage-contig72) interacted with Gigantidas platifrons methanotrophic gill symbionts (bathymodiolin mussels host intracellular methanotrophic Gammaproteobacteria in their gills), showing high expression levels, and have huge different expression in different methane concentrations. Additionally, single-stranded DNA viruses may play a potential auxiliary role in the virus–host interaction using indirect bioinformatics methods. Moreover, the Cro and DNA methylase genes had phylogenetic similarity between the virus and Gigantidas platifrons methanotrophic gill symbionts. This study also explored a variety of viruses in the gill tissues of Gigantidas platifrons and revealed that bacteria interacted with the viruses during the symbiosis with Gigantidas platifrons. This study provides fundamental insights into the interplay of microorganisms within Gigantidas platifrons mussels in deep sea.

In order to improve the demulsification efficiency of highly emulsified oily wastewater, a hyperbranched polymer demulsifier HPO-1 was prepared by using hyperbranched polyethyleneimine HPEI and composite fatty acid monomer FO-1 as the main raw materials. Its structure was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance 1HNMR spectroscopy. The interfacial activity was evaluated, and the effects of demulsifier dosage,temperature, settling time, and wastewater salinity on the demulsification efficiency of HPO-1 were investigated. The performance of HPO-1 were compared with the on-site demulsifier XCP-16S. The results showed that the interfacial activity and demulsification performance of HPO-1 were significantly superior to XCP-16S. When the dosage of HPO-1 was 50 mg/L, the temperature was 30 ℃, the settling time was 30 minutes, and the salinity of wastewater was 8 350 mg/L, the oil removal efficiency could reach 90.8%, and the residual amount of HPO-1 in the aqueous phase after demulsification treatment was less than 0.5 mg/L. The hyperbranched polymer demulsifier HPO-1 had a good on-site demulsification treatment effect on strongly emulsified oily wastewater from an offshore oil production platform in A Oilfield. After settling time of over 30 minutes, the oil removal efficiency could reach over 90%. The research results showed that hyperbranched polymer demulsifier HPO-1 could meet the demand for fast and efficient demulsification of highly emulsified oily wastewater.

The challenge associated with depositing high-strength steel using the arc deposition method lies in the propensity for hardened microstructures to form during the deposition process. This hardened microstructure can lead to a decrease in material toughness and potentially cause cold cracks. Fortunately, oxide metallurgy technology is expected to address this issue. Specifically, nano oxides can refine the grain and induce the formation of intracrystalline ferrite, thereby enhancing steel's toughness. To gain a deeper understanding of this process, a study was conducted on the morphology and structure of oxygen-containing second-phase particles generated in parts made from H13 steel wire modified with Al2O3, TiO2, and SiO2. Additionally, the impact of these oxygen-containing second-phase particles on microstructure transformation was investigated. The following conclusions were drawn from the study: (1) The arc's high temperature causes complex reactions among the oxides in the molten pool, ultimately resulting in the formation of oxygen-containing second-phase particles with a unique core-shell structure. The size and composition of these particles vary within the interdendritic and intradendritic regions due to element segregation. (2) Through in-situ observations, this study discovered that oxygen-containing second-phase particles promote the nucleation of high-temperature ferrite and austenite. This promotes grain refinement and induces the formation of intracrystalline ferrite, which positively impacts material toughness. (3) The driving force for ferrite phase transformation induced by oxygen-containing second-phase particles may stem from the Mn-depleted zone surrounding the particles and the low mismatch between the VC outer layer of the particles and the ferrite.

Abstract The disintegration of red-bed soft rock exhibits a strong correlation with various geological disasters. However, the investigation into the evolutionary mechanisms underlying disintegration breakage has not yet received extensive exploration. In order to comprehensively examine the disintegration characteristics of red-bed soft rock, the slake durability tests were conducted to red-bed soft rocks of varying burial depths. Subsequently, an investigation was carried out to examine the disintegration characteristics and the evolution of disintegration parameters, including the coefficient of uniformity (Cu), coefficient of curvature (Cc), disintegration rate (DRE), disintegration ratio (Dr), and fractal dimension (D), throughout the disintegration process. Finally, employing the energy dissipation theory, an energy dissipation model was developed to predicate the disintegration process of samples at various burial depths. The findings demonstrate a decrease in the abundance of large particles and a concurrent increase in the abundance of small particles as the number of drying-wetting cycles increases. Furthermore, as the number of drying-wetting cycles increases, a significant alteration is observed in the content of particles larger than 10 mm, whereas the content of particles smaller than 10 mm undergoes only minor changes. The disintegration parameters, including the curvature coefficient, non-uniformity coefficient, disintegration rate, and fractal dimension, exhibit a positive correlation with the number of drying-wetting cycles. Conversely, the disintegration index demonstrates a decreasing trend with the increasing number of cycles. Nevertheless, as the burial depth increases, a notable trend emerges in the disintegration process, characterized by a gradual increase in the content of large particles alongside a progressive decrease in the content of small particles. Concurrently, the curvature coefficient, non-uniformity coefficient, disintegration rate, and fractal dimension exhibit a gradual decline, while the durability index experiences a gradual increase. In addition, based on the principle of energy dissipation, it is revealed that the surface energy increment of red-bed soft rock increases with the increase of the number of drying-wetting cycles, but decreases with the increase of burial depth. Ultimately, by leveraging the outcomes of energy dissipation analyses, a theoretical model is constructed to elucidate the correlation between surface energy and both the number of drying-wetting cycles and burial depth. This model serves as a theoretical reference for predicting the disintegration behavior of samples, offering valuable insights for future research endeavors.

As droughts become more frequent due to climate change and shifts in land use, enhancing the accuracy of drought prediction is becoming crucial for informed land and water resource management. This study employed the Informer model to forecast drought and conducted a comparative analysis with Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), long short-term memory (LSTM), and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models. The findings indicate that the Informer model outperforms the other three models in terms of drought forecasting accuracy across all time scales. Nevertheless, the predictive capacity of the Informer model remains suboptimal when it comes to short-term intervals. Aiming at the problem of drought forecasting accuracy in a short time scale, this study proposed a drought forecasting model named VMD-JAYA-Informer based on Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and the JAVA optimization algorithm to improve the Informer model. This study conducted a comparative analysis of VMD-JAYA-ARIMA, VMD-JAYA-LSTM, VMD-JAYA-CNN, and VMD-JAYA-Informer drought prediction models. The performance of these models was evaluated using the root mean square error (RMSE), Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency coefficient (NSE), and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The VMD-JAYA-Informer model’s forecast for the 1-month SPEI significantly surpasses that of alternative models and demonstrates a robust agreement with the actual data. Simultaneously, the model exhibits equally optimal forecasting performance across different time scales. In order to validate the VMD-JAYA-Informer model, four meteorological stations in the Songliao River Basin were chosen at random. The validation results demonstrate that VMD-JAYA-Informer outperforms the Informer model in terms of prediction accuracy on the 1-month time scale (NSE values of 0.8663, 0.8765, 0.8822, and 0.8416, respectively). Additionally, the model outperforms Informer in terms of prediction performance on other time scales, further demonstrating its generalizability and excellence in drought prediction on shorter time scales.

The failure of a filament eruption caused by magnetic reconnection between the erupting filament and the overlying magnetic field has been previously proposed in numerical simulations. It is, however, rarely observed. In this study, we report a reconnection between an erupting filament and its overlying coronal loops that results in the failure of the filament eruption. On 2023 September 24, a filament was located in active region 13445. It slowly rose, quickly erupted, rapidly decelerated, then finally stopped, with an untwisting motion. As a failed eruption, the event is associated with an M4.4 flare but no coronal mass ejection. During the eruption, the filament became bright, and the overlying loops appeared first in the high-temperature channels. They have average temperatures of ∼12.8 and ∼9.6 MK, respectively, indicating that both of them were heated. Two sets of new loops, separately connecting the filament endpoints and the overlying loop footpoints, then formed. Subsequently, the heated overlying loops were seen sequentially in the low-temperature channels, showing the cooling process, which is also supported by the light curves. Plasmoids formed and propagated bidirectionally along the filament and the overlying loops, indicating the presence of plasmoid instability. These results suggest that reconnection occurs between the erupting filament and the overlying loops. The erupting filament eventually disappeared, with the appearance of more newly formed loops. We propose that the reconnection between the erupting filament and the overlying loops ruins the filament completely, hence resulting in the failed eruption.

We observed three recurrent blowout jets in an active region with the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) aboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Using Helioseismic Magnetic Imager data we found that the magnetic flux of an emerging negative pole increases steadily before declining just as the jets erupt. Certain physical quantities, such as the total unsigned vertical current, align with the periodicity of the jets. The differential affine velocity of vector magnetograms reveals strong shear around the negative pole. The Doppler velocity map, calculated from the H α spectra observed by the Chinese H α Solar Explorer, shows upflows with large initial velocity before they can be observed by AIA. The magnetic field derived from the nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) model suggests a topology akin to a fan–spine structure, consistent with AIA images. We calculated the evolution of the volumetric helicity ratio using the NLFFF model and found its phase aligns with the jet flux in AIA 171 Å. These results suggest that recurrent jets may be triggered by the accumulation and release of energy and helicity, driven by emergence, shearing, and cancellation of photospheric magnetic field.

Experts and scholars from various nations have proposed studying low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite signals as the space-based signals of opportunity (SOPs) for navigation and positioning. This method serves as a robust alternative in environments where global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) are unavailable or compromised, providing users with high-precision, anti-interference, secure, and dependable backup navigation solutions. The rapid evolution of LEO communication constellations has spurred the development of SOPs positioning technology using LEO satellites. However, this has also led to a substantial increase in the number of LEO satellites, thereby reintroducing the traditional challenge of satellite selection. This research thoroughly examines three critical factors affecting positioning accuracy: satellite observable time, satellite elevation, and position dilution of precision (PDOP). It introduces a strategic approach for selecting satellites in LEO SOPs navigation and positioning. Simulation outcomes confirm that this satellite selection strategy effectively identifies visible satellites, ensuring precise positioning through LEO SOPs.

Accurate bud detection is a prerequisite for automatic tea picking and yield statistics; however, current research suffers from missed detection due to the variety of singleness and false detection under complex backgrounds. Traditional target detection models are mainly based on CNN, but CNN can only achieve the extraction of local feature information, which is a lack of advantages for the accurate identification of targets in complex environments, and Transformer can be a good solution to the problem. Therefore, based on a multi-variety tea bud dataset, this study proposes RT-DETR-Tea, an improved object detection model under the real-time detection Transformer (RT-DETR) framework. This model uses cascaded group attention to replace the multi-head self-attention (MHSA) mechanism in the attention-based intra-scale feature interaction (AIFI) module, effectively optimizing deep features and enriching the semantic information of features. The original cross-scale feature-fusion module (CCFM) mechanism is improved to establish the gather-and-distribute-Tea (GD-Tea) mechanism for multi-level feature fusion, which can effectively fuse low-level and high-level semantic information and large and small tea bud features in natural environments. The submodule of DilatedReparamBlock in UniRepLKNet was employed to improve RepC3 to achieve an efficient fusion of tea bud feature information and ensure the accuracy of the detection head. Ablation experiments show that the precision and mean average precision of the proposed RT-DETR-Tea model are 96.1% and 79.7%, respectively, which are increased by 5.2% and 2.4% compared to those of the original model, indicating the model’s effectiveness. The model also shows good detection performance on the newly constructed tea bud dataset. Compared with other detection algorithms, the improved RT-DETR-Tea model demonstrates superior tea bud detection performance, providing effective technical support for smart tea garden management and production.

Verticillium wilt (VW) represents the most formidable challenge in cotton cultivation, critically impairing both fiber yield and quality. Conventional resistance assessment techniques, which are largely reliant on subjective manual evaluation, fail to meet the demands for precision and scalability required for advanced genetic research. This study introduces a robust evaluation framework utilizing feature selection and optimization algorithms to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the severity assessment of cotton VW. We conducted comprehensive time-series UAV hyperspectral imaging (400 to 995 nm) on the cotton canopy in a field environment on different days after sowing (DAS). After preprocessing the hyperspectral data to extract wavelet coefficients and vegetation indices, various feature selection methods were implemented to select sensitive spectral features for cotton VW. By leveraging these selected features, we developed machine learning models to assess the severity of cotton VW at the canopy scale. Model validation revealed that the performance of the assessment models responded dynamically as VW progressed and achieved the highest R2 of 0.5807 at DAS 80, with an RMSE of 6.0887. Optimization algorithms made a marked improvement for SVM in severity assessment using all observation data, with R2 increasing from 0.6986 to 0.9007. This study demonstrates the potential of feature selection and machine learning methods based on hyperspectral data in enhancing VW management, promising advancements in high-throughput automated disease assessment, and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.

Makeup modifies facial textures and colors, impacting the precision of face anti-spoofing systems. Many individuals opt for light makeup in their daily lives, which generally does not hinder face identity recognition. However, current research in face anti-spoofing often neglects the influence of light makeup on facial feature recognition, notably the absence of publicly accessible datasets featuring light makeup faces. If these instances are incorrectly flagged as fraudulent by face anti-spoofing systems, it could lead to user inconvenience. In response, we develop a face anti-spoofing database that includes light makeup faces and establishes a criterion for determining light makeup to select appropriate data. Building on this foundation, we assess multiple established face anti-spoofing algorithms using the newly created database. Our findings reveal that the majority of these algorithms experience a decrease in performance when faced with light makeup faces. Consequently, this paper introduces a general face anti-spoofing algorithm specifically designed for light makeup faces, which includes a makeup augmentation module, a batch channel normalization module, a backbone network updated via the Exponential Moving Average (EMA) method, an asymmetric virtual triplet loss module, and a nearest neighbor supervised contrastive module. The experimental outcomes confirm that the proposed algorithm exhibits superior detection capabilities when handling light makeup faces.

Besides the intensity and wavelength, the ability to analyze the optical polarization of detected light can provide a new degree of freedom for numerous applications, such as object recognition, biomedical applications, environmental monitoring, and remote sensing imaging. However, conventional filter-integrated polarimetric sensing systems require complex optical components and a complicated fabrication process, severely limiting their on-chip miniaturization and functionalities. Herein, the reconfigurable polarimetric photodetection with photovoltaic mode is developed based on a few-layer MoS2/PdSe2 heterostructure channel and a charge-trap structure composed of Al2O3/HfO2/Al2O3 (AHA)-stacked dielectrics. Because of the remarkable charge-trapping ability of carriers in the AHA stack, the MoS2/PdSe2 channel exhibits a high program/erase current ratio of 105 and a memory window exceeding 20 V. Moreover, the photovoltaic mode of the MoS2/PdSe2 Schottky diode can be operated and manipulable, resulting in high and distinct responsivities in the visible broadband. Interestingly, the linear polarization of the device can be modulated under program/erase states, enabling the reconfigurable capability of linearly polarized photodetection. This study demonstrates a new prototype heterostructure-based photodetector with the capability of both tunable responsivity and linear polarization, demonstrating great potential application toward reconfigurable photosensing and polarization-resolved imaging applications.

We discuss the intrinsic relations between thermodynamic phase transitions and quasinormal modes in regular AdS black holes, specifically in the Bardeen and Hayward AdS classes. To this end, we calculate the quasinormal modes of massless scalar field perturbations around small and large black holes via the Horowitz-Hubeny method. By investigating the isobaric and isothermal phase transitions for Bardeen and Hayward AdS black holes in detail, we observe that a dramatic change of quasinormal modes appears near the phase transition point of small and large black holes, and that it corresponds to the swallow tail structure in the plane of Gibbs free energy with respect to pressure. Moreover, by analyzing the evolution of black holes along the coexistence curve of small and large black hole phases, we also observe the dramatic change in quasinormal modes. Such a phenomenon confirms the signal of the phase transition in the quasinormal mode spectrum, which can be understood as a thermodynamic signal hidden in the dynamical spectrum.

Abstract The water evaporation rate of 3D solar evaporator heavily relies on the water transport height of the evaporator. In this work, a 3D solar evaporator featuring a soil capillary‐like structure is designed by surface coating native balsa wood using potassium hydroxide activated carbon (KAC). This KAC‐coated wood evaporator can transport water up to 32 cm, surpassing that of native wood by ≈8 times. Moreover, under 1 kW m−2 solar radiation without wind, the KAC‐coated wood evaporator exhibits a remarkable water evaporation rate of 25.3 kg m−2 h−1, ranking among the highest compared with other reported evaporators. The exceptional water transport capabilities of the KAC‐coated wood should be attributed to the black and hydrophilic KAC film, which creates a porous network resembling a soil capillary structure to facilitate efficient water transport. In the porous network of coated KAC film, the small internal pores play a pivotal role in achieving rapid capillary condensation, while the larger interstitial channels store condensed water, further promoting water transport up more and micropore capillary condensation. Moreover, this innovative design demonstrates efficacy in retarding phenol from wastewater through absorption onto the coated KAC film, thus presenting a new avenue for high‐efficiency clean water production.

BackgroundBrain inflammation plays a key role in ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury and is the main cause of “ineffective or futile recanalization” after successful mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). One of the primary sources of inflammatory cells after AIS are derived from the spleen. As an innovative and potential neuroprotective strategy after stroke, Remote Administration of Hypothermia (RAH) temporarily suppresses immune activities in the spleen, reduces the release of inflammatory cells and cytokines into blood, and thus reversibly diminishes inflammatory injury in the brain.MethodsThis single-center, prospective, randomized controlled study (RCT) is proposed for AIS patients with anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO). Subjects will be randomly assigned to either the control or intervention groups in a 1:1 ratio (n = 40). Participants allocated to the intervention group will receive RAH on the abdomen above the spleen prior to recanalization until 6 h after thrombectomy. All enrolled patients will receive standard stroke Guideline care. The main adverse events associated with RAH are focal cold intolerance and abdominal pain. The primary outcome will assess safety as it pertains to RAH application. The secondary outcomes include the efficacy of RAH on spleen, determined by spleen volumes, blood inflammatory factor (cells and cytokines), and on brain injury, determined by infarction volumes and poststroke functional outcomes.DiscussionThis study aims to examine the safety and preliminary effectiveness of RAH over the spleen during endovascular therapy in AIS patients. As the most effective therapeutic drug for malaria, artemisinin can only be extracted from Artemisia annua L., which is sensitive to the surrounding growing habitat. Histone acetyltransferases (HATs) contain acetyl groups, which modulate mRNA transcription and thereby regulate plant environmental adaptation. Comprehensive analyses of HATs have been performed in many plants, but systematic identification of HATs in medicinal plants is lacking. In the present study, we identified 11 AaHATs and characterized these genes into four classes according to their conserved protein structures. According to the phylogenetic analysis results, potential functions of HAT genes from Arabidopsis thaliana, Oryza sativa, and A. annua were found. According to our results, AaHAT has a highly conserved evolutionary history and is rich in highly variable regions; thus, AaHAT has become a comparatively ideal object of medical plant identification and systematic study. Moreover, motifs commonly present in histone acetyltransferases in the A. annua genome may be associated with functional AaHATs. AaHATs appear to be related to gene-specific functions. AaHATs are regulated by cis-elements, and these genes may affect phytohormone responsiveness, adaptability to stress, and developmental growth. We performed expression analyses to determine the potential roles of AaHATs in response to three environmental stresses. Our results revealed a cluster of AaHATs that potentially plays a role in the response of plants to dynamic environments.

Fatty infiltration denotes the anomalous accrual of adipocytes in non-adipose tissue, thereby generating toxic substances with the capacity to impede the ordinary physiological functions of various organs. With aging, the musculoskeletal system undergoes pronounced degenerative alterations, prompting heightened scrutiny regarding the contributory role of fatty infiltration in its pathophysiology. Several studies have demonstrated that fatty infiltration affects the normal metabolism of the musculoskeletal system, leading to substantial tissue damage. Nevertheless, a definitive and universally accepted generalization concerning the comprehensive effects of fatty infiltration on the musculoskeletal system remains elusive. As a result, this review summarizes the characteristics of different types of adipose tissue, the pathological mechanisms associated with fatty infiltration in bone, muscle, and the entirety of the musculoskeletal system, examines relevant clinical diseases, and explores potential therapeutic modalities. This review is intended to give researchers a better understanding of fatty infiltration and to contribute new ideas to the prevention and treatment of clinical musculoskeletal diseases.

Abstract Objectives To Investigate the value of 3D printed guide-assisted percutaneous management of minimally displaced scaphoid waist fractures(Herbert’s B2) with delayed diagnosis or presentation. Methods From October 2018 to February 2022, 10 patients with established delayed diagnoses and presentation of minimally displaced scaphoid waist fractures were treated with 3D printed guides assisted with percutaneous internal fixation without bone grafting. This technique was based on the patient’s preoperative CT and imported into the software. Based on Boolean subtraction, the most centralized screw placement position was identified and a customized guide was produced. Intraoperative percutaneous insertion of the guide wire was assisted by the custom guide. Results All 10 patients were successful in one attempt. The fractures healed at a mean of 7.7 weeks postoperatively (range 6–10 weeks). At a mean follow-up of 7.7 months (6–13 months), patients had excellent recovery of wrist function with minimal pain reduction. There were no major postoperative complications and the patients all returned to their previous activities before the injury. Conclusions Percutaneous internal fixation based on 3D printed guides is a safe and effective technique for delayed diagnosis or presentation of patients with minimally displaced fractures of the scaphoid waist. This method allows for easy insertion of screws and avoids multiple attempts.

Abstract In-situ wastewater treatment has gained popularity due to cost and energy savings tailored to water sources and user needs. However, this treatment, particularly through advanced oxidation processes (AOPs), poses ecological risks due to the need for strong oxidizing agents. Here, we present a decoupled oxidation process (DOP) using single-atom copper-modified graphite felt electrodes. This process creates a positive potential difference (ΔE ~ 0.5 V) between spatially isolated oxidants and organics and drives electron transfer-based redox reactions. The approach avoids the drawbacks of conventional AOPs, while being capable of treating various recalcitrant electron-rich organics. A floating water treatment device designed based on the DOP approach can degrade organic molecules in large bodies of water with oxidants stored separately in the device. We demonstrate that over 200 L of contaminated water can be treated with a floating device containing only 40 mL of oxidant (10 mM peroxysulphate). The modular device can be used in tandem structures on demand, maximizing water remediation per unit area. Our result provides a promising, eco-friendly method for in-situ water treatment that is unattainable with existing techniques.
