The objective of this paper is to obtain an excellent structure of a rotational hydrodynamic cavitation reactor (RHCR) by a numerical method and then to investigate the cavitating flow characteristics of the optimized RHCR experimentally. The RNG k-ε turbulence model combined with the Zwart cavitation model was applied to analyze the influence of the straight blade number, the baffle position and the baffle shape on the pressure field, bubble distribution and turbulence kinetic energy of the RHCR. The results show that compared to the original model, an RHCR with a straight blade number of 6, a baffle position of 0.74 and a triangular baffle offers better cavitation performance. Moreover, the energy performance and the cavitation development process of the optimized RHCR were studied experimentally. The results indicate that the multiscale bubbles are induced by straight blades and baffles of the optimized RHCR, accompanied by the twice quasi-periodic shedding dynamics in one cycle. Investigation of the breakup and transfer effect of weakly bound nuclei on the fusion process has been an interesting research topic in the past several years. In comparison with radioactive ion beam (RIB), the beam intensities of stable weakly bound nuclei such as 6,7Li and 9Be, which have significant breakup probability, are orders of magnitude higher. Precise fusion measurements induced by these nuclei have already been performed. However, the conclusion of reaction dynamics was not clear and has contradiction. In order to have a proper understanding of the influence of breakup and transfer of weakly bound projectiles on the fusion process, the 6Li+89Y experiment with incident energies of 22 MeV and 34 MeV was performed on Galileo array in combination with Si-ball EUCLIDES at Legnaro National Laboratory (LNL) in Italy. Using the coincidence by the charged particles and γ-rays, the different reaction channels can be clearly identified.

However, owing to the low intensities of the presently available radioactive ion beam (RIB), it is difficult to clearly explore the reaction mechanisms of nuclear systems with unstable nuclei. In comparison with RIB, the beam intensities of stable weakly bound nuclei such as 6,7Li and 9Be, which have significant breakup probability, are orders of magnitude higher. Precise fusion measurements have already been performed with those stable weakly bound nuclei, and the effect of breakup of those nuclei on the fusion process has been extensively studied. Those nuclei indicated large production cross sections for particles other than the α + x breakup. The particles are originated from non-capture breakup (NCBU), incomplete fusion (ICF) and transfer processes. However, the conclusion of reaction dynamics was not clear and has the contradiction. In our previous experiments we have performed 6Li+96Zr and 154Sm at HI-13 Tandem accelerator of China Institute of Atomic Energy (CIAE) by using HPGe array. It is shown that there is a small complete fusion (CF) suppression on medium-mass target nucleus 96Zr different from about 35% suppression on heavier target nucleus 154Sm at near-barrier energies. It seems that the CF suppression factor depends on the charge of target nuclei. We also observed one neutron transfer process. However, the experimental data are scarce for medium-mass target nuclei. In order to have a proper understanding of the influence of breakup and transfer of weakly bound projectiles on the fusion process, we performed the 6Li+89Y experiment with incident energies of 22 MeV and 34 MeV on Galileo array in cooperation with Si-ball EUCLIDES at Legnaro National Laboratory (LNL) in Italy. Using particle-particle and particle-γ coincidences, the different reaction mechanisms can be clearly explored.

The fusion excitation function for the positive-Q-value system 12C+30Si (Qfus = +14.1 MeV) has been measured in inverse kinematics down to the μb level and compared with standard coupled-channel calculations. The appearance of the fusion hindrance phenomenon and the evidence of a S-factor maximum have been observed. This result can be significant to extrapolate the behavior of lighter astrophysical relevant systems at deep sub-barrier energies, where existing experimental data are still contradicting and affected by large errors.

It is important to understand the physical interaction between top-blown oxygen jet and liquid bath in basic oxygen furnaces (BOF). In the present study, cold model experiments were carried out to investigate the cavity depth and diameter. Images of the cavities were captured by high speed video camera to study cavity performances. The experimental results show that the depth of bath has little influence on the shape of the cavity and the critical jet flow. The cavity depth and diameter exhibit linear growth by raising the jet flow rate with a fixed jet height. At the same gas flow rate, the cavity diameter has little relation with the nozzle diameter, but the cavity depth becomes deeper with the decrease of the nozzle diameter. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The application of spiking neural P systems with rules and weights on synapses to arithmetic operations is discussed in this paper. We design specific spiking neural P systems with rules and weights on synapses for successfully performing addition, multiplication and the greatest common divisor. This is the first attempt to discuss the application of the new variant of spiking neural P systems, spiking neural P systems with rules and weights on synapses, and especially the use of spiking neural P systems to perform the greatest common divisor. Instability and fl w transition of a vortex ring impinging on a wall were investigated by means of large-eddy simulation for two vortex core thicknesses corresponding to thin and thick vortex rings. Various fundamental mechanisms dictating the fl w behaviours, such as evolution of vortical structures, instability and breakdown of vortex rings, development of modal energies, and transition from laminar to turbulent state, have been studied systematically. Analysis of the enstrophy of wrapping vortices and turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) in fl w fiel indicates that the formation and evolution of wrapping vortices are closely associated with the fl w transitionto turbulent state. It is found that the temporaldevelopmentof wrapping vortices and the growth rate of axial fl w generated around the circumference of the core region for the thin ring are faster than those for the thick ring. The azimuthal instabilities of primary and secondary vortex rings are analysed and the development of modal energies reveals the fl w transition to turbulent state. The law of energy decay follows a characteristic k-5/3 law, indicating that the vortical fl w has become turbulent. The results obtained in this study provide physical insight into the understandingof the instability mechanisms relevant to the vortical fl w evolution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To solve the multi-objective mobile robot path planning in a dangerous environment with dynamic obstacles, this paper proposes a modified membraneinspired algorithm based on particle swarm optimization (mMPSO), which combines membrane systems with particle swarm optimization. In mMPSO, a dynamic double one-level membrane structure is introduced to arrange the particles with various dimensions and perform the communications between particles in different membranes; a point repair algorithm is presented to change an infeasible path into a feasible path; a smoothness algorithm is proposed to remove the redundant information of a feasible path; inspired by the idea of tightening the fishing line, a moving direction adjustment for each node of a path is introduced to enhance the algorithm performance. Extensive experiments conducted in different environments with three kinds of grid models and five kinds of obstacles show the effectiveness and practicality of mMPSO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
