Background: Cognitive bias plays a crucial role in the onset and persistence of depression. Research has established a link between personality traits and cognitive bias; however, most of them focused on the general population, overlooking individuals with depression. We aim to explore the relationship between personality and cognitive bias in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) and compare the results with healthy controls (HCs) to identify potential patterns. Methods: The study included 124 patients with MDD and 123 HCs recruited from the Zhumadian Psychiatric Hospital in Henan, China, using the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire (16 PF) to measure personality traits and the Cognitive Bias Questionnaire (CBQ) to measure cognitive biases. Pearson correlations and hierarchical regression analyses were employed to investigate the correlations and predictive powers. Results: Traits related to neuroticism or extraversion were associated with biased responses. After controlling for sociodemographic and clinical information, neuroticism traits were found to have a significant independent effect in the MDD group. Also, the significance of Privateness in the MDD group merits more extensive exploration. Although consistent correlation patterns were found in both groups, neuroticism traits were more significant and independent in predicting biased cognitive processing in the MDD group, indicating the importance of neuroticism in the depressive context. Conclusions: The present study provides insights into the connection between personality and cognitive bias from a clinical perspective, potentially enhancing clinical diagnosis and treatment modalities. (Mg, Fe)CO3 is an important deep carbon carrier and plays a vital role in our understanding of lower‐mantle carbon reservoirs. The electrical conductivity (EC) of FeCO3 was measured at 126−2000 K up to 83 GPa in diamond‐anvil cells using a standard four‐probe van der Pauw method. Moreover, the EC of FeCO3 increases by ∼6 orders of magnitude from 300 to 1500 K at 10−20 GPa, indicating a strong effect of high temperature. The EC of Fe0.65Mg0.35CO3 was measured up to 60 GPa at 300 K, the EC values of (Mg, Fe)CO3 are proportional to iron content and increase by 2–3 orders of magnitude at 300 K across the spin crossover. The EC values of (Mg, Fe)CO3 and FeCO3 + Fe3O4 ± C mixtures surpass that of bridgmanite, ferropericlase and davemaoite by ∼1–4 orders of magnitude at depths of 800–2,000 km. This result sheds insights into the genesis of local geomagnetic heterogeneities in the mid‐lower mantle. However, some of the aforementioned geomagnetic anomalies are higher than the electrical conductivity (EC) values of major lower‐mantle minerals such as ferropericlase, bridgmanite, and davemaoite. This calls for the existence of high conductive mineral(s) in the region where subducting slabs can bring certain amounts of Fe‐bearing and/or carbon‐bearing materials. In this study, we report that EC values of (Mg, Fe)CO3 and FeCO3 + Fe3O4 ± C mixtures are 1–4 orders of magnitude greater than that of the major minerals at depths of 800–2,000 km. This suggests (Mg, Fe)CO3‐bearing and its decomposed mixtures subducting patches may induce local geomagnetic heterogeneities at these depths. In particular, these materials may contribute to the geomagnetic anomalies observed at ∼1,300 km depths and assist in identifying potential carbon‐rich regions in the lower mantle. Conventional treatment to periodontal and many other bone defects requires the use of barrier membranes to guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and guided bone regeneration (GBR). However, current barrier membranes normally lack of the ability to actively regulate the bone repairing process. Herein, we proposed a biomimetic bone tissue engineering strategy enabled by a new type of Janus porous polylactic acid membrane (PLAM), which was fabricated by combining unidirectional evaporation-induced pore formation with subsequent self-assembly of a bioactive metal–phenolic network (MPN) nanointerface. The prepared PLAM-MPN simultaneously possesses barrier function on the dense side and bone-forming function on the porous side. In vitro, the presence of MPN nanointerface potently alleviated the proinflammatory polarization of mice bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs), induced angiogenesis of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), and enhanced the attachment, migration and osteogenic differentiation of human periodontal ligament stem cells (hPDLSCs). The implantation of PLAM-MPN into rat periodontal bone defects remarkably enhanced bone regeneration. This bioactive MPN nanointerface within a Janus porous membrane possesses versatile capacities to regulate cell physiology favoring bone regeneration, demonstrating great potential as GTR and GBR membranes for clinical applications. The negative Poisson's ratio fiber reinforced concrete (NPR-FRC) was prepared using a new type of negative Poisson's ratio fiber (NPRF), with PVA fiber as the core and carbon fibers as the wrapping fibers by spiral treatment. The NPR-FRC's compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and flexural toughness were tested and its energy absorption capacity was calculated. More importantly, the deformation behavior and global Poisson's ratio are analyzed by the digital speckle correlation method (DSCM), and the static loading deformation mechanism with NPR-FRC is revealed. The results show that when V f (the volume fraction of fiber) = 0.3 vol% the compressive strength of NPR-FRC increases by 18.5%, the splitting tensile strength increases by 43.20%, the flexural strength increases by 24.95%, and the energy absorption capacity increases by 69.691 times. With the addition of 3% NPRF, the Poisson's ratio of concrete will be reduced by 22.8%, and the NPRF expands more energy in the deformation process. The negative Poisson's ratio effect of the layered NPRF reduces the plastic deformation and the Poisson's ratio, improving strain bearing capacity and energy absorption capacity. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the combined prognostic nutritional index (PNI) and GGT/ALT for the postoperative prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) within Milan criteria undergoing radical hepatectomy. Methods: This single-center retrospective study included 283 patients with HCC within the Milan criteria who underwent hepatectomy. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to calculate the optimal PNI and GGT/ALT cut-off values. Pre-treatment PNI, GGT/ALT, and PNI-GGT/ALT grades were calculated. Overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS) were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method, and multivariate analysis was used to identify prognostic factors. Results: Multivariate Cox regression analysis identified that the PNI, GGT/ALT, tumor number were significant prognostic markers for OS, and that the GGT/ALT, tumor number were significant prognostic markers for OS. The survival curves showed that low PNI, high GGT/ALT ratio, and high PNI-GGT/ALT grade were associated with poorer OS and DFS. With an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.690, PNI-GGT/ALT outperformed each individual score. Conclusion: PNI-GGT/ALT, a new prognostic scoring model, qualifies as a novel prognostic predictor for patients with HCC within the Milan criteria after curative resection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Electroencephalography (EEG) recordings under propofol exhibit an increase in slow and alpha oscillation power and dose-dependent phase–amplitude coupling (PAC), which underlie GABAA potentiation and the central role of thalamocortical entrainment. However, the exact EEG signatures elicited by volatile anesthetics and the possible neurophysiological mechanisms remain unclear. Methods: Cortical EEG signals and thalamic local field potential (LFP) were recorded in a mouse model to detect EEG signatures induced by 0.9%, 1.5%, and 2.0% isoflurane. Then, the power of the EEG spectrum, thalamocortical coherence, and slow–alpha phase–amplitude coupling were analyzed. A computational model based on the thalamic network was used to determine the primary neurophysiological mechanisms of alpha spiking of thalamocortical neurons under isoflurane anesthesia. Results: Isoflurane at 0.9% (light anesthesia) increased the power of slow and delta oscillations both in cortical EEG and in thalamic LFP. Isoflurane at 1.5% (surgery anesthesia) increased the power of alpha oscillations both in cortical EEG and in thalamic LFP. Isoflurane at 2% (deep anesthesia) further increased the power of cortical alpha oscillations, while thalamic alpha oscillations were unchanged. Thalamocortical coherence of alpha oscillation only exhibited a significant increase under 1.5% isoflurane. Isoflurane-induced PAC modulation remained unchanged throughout under various concentrations of isoflurane. By adjusting the parameters in the computational model, isoflurane-induced alpha spiking in thalamocortical neurons was simulated, which revealed the potential molecular targets and the thalamic network involved in isoflurane-induced alpha spiking in thalamocortical neurons. Conclusion: The EEG changes in the cortical alpha oscillation, thalamocortical coherence, and slow–alpha PAC may provide neurophysiological signatures for monitoring isoflurane anesthesia at various depths. In this work, a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor based on a D-shaped germanium-doped photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is proposed. The finite element method (FEM) is introduced to analyze the structure parameters, such as germanium-doped concentration, lattice pitch, and air hole size. In addition, the coupling properties and birefringence properties of PCF are also studied. The computer simulation results indicate that two different surface plasmon polariton (SPP) coupling modes are produced on the polished surface, covered with metal film, when the analyte refractive index (RI) is 1.34 . Then, with the increase of the RI, the incompleteness of one of the coupling modes will be transformed into the complete coupling. The effect of germanium concentration on the birefringence is also analyzed. It has an optimal wavelength sensitivity of 5600 nm/RIU when the RI is 1.37. This sensor exhibits a maximum birefringence of 1.06 × 10−2 and a resolution of 1.78 × 10−5 RIU with high linearity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Smart fiber reinforced concretes (FRC) are good in intelligent environmental response. With the smart FRC being used in buildings such as bridges and tunnels, the real-time online distributed monitoring of concrete state can be realized. It provides an excellent solution to reduce the emergencies caused by the accumulation of damages, resistance attenuation, etc. This paper analyzes smart FRC's self-sensing and self-healing response characteristics under different environmental response fields. Furthermore, the intelligent response mechanism of smart carbon fiber reinforced concrete (CFRC), optical fiber reinforced concrete (OFRC), glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC), and nanofiber reinforced concrete (NFRC) would be summarized. The response fields include the stress field, temperature field, electromagnetic field, chemical field, and humidity field, among which the field response mechanism of smart NFRC is classified and summarized. Here, four normalized difference water index (NDWI) variants, i.e., NDWI(860,970), NDWI(860,1240), NDWI(860,1640), and NDWI(1240,1640) are generated from the corn-oriented PROSAIL radiative transfer model. It is found that, instead of the linear relationship derived in previous studies, corn canopy water content (CWC) is best approximated as an exponential function of NDWI. Following the analysis of the PROSAIL-generated results, a newly optimized NDWI-based scheme is proposed for estimating corn CWC according to variations in the performance of the four NDWI variants under different CWC conditions. Validation results based on independent field data from the SMEX02, HiWATER2012, and Baoding2018 field experiments verify that this optimized NDWI-based corn CWC estimating scheme has a higher accuracy ($R = 0.87\,\,\pm \,\,0.03$ , RMSE = 0.2068 ± 0.0145 kg/m2) than existing NDWI-based strategies for corn CWC retrieval. The feasibility of retrieving corn vegetation water content (VWC) based on the optimized NDWI-based scheme is also investigated, and the superiority of the optimized NDWI-based scheme for retrieving corn VWC is assessed. By comparing with four other NDWI-based corn VWC estimating methods, as well as the corn VWC parameterization scheme applied in the SMAP soil moisture algorithm, it is shown that our optimized NDWI-based scheme has the best VWC estimation accuracy, with the highest $R$ of 0.89 ± 0.02 and the lowest RMSE of 0.7179 ± 0.0555 kg/m2. To study the strength, deformation characteristics, and intermediate principal stress of intact loess, vertical loading stress tests with different initial stress state k value were conducted under different confining pressures. Plane strain tests were carried out by the transformed true triaxial apparatus of Xi'an University of Technology. The study shows that loess tends to be in a plastic failure state in different confining pressures and k values, and the stress-strain relationship curve is of a hardening type. Results reveal that loess lateral and volume deformations have nonlinear relationships with its vertical deformation, and volume deformation shrinks in the process of shearing. The effect of confining pressure on soil deformation is greater than k value. The intermediate principal stress coefficient decreases with the increase of the confining pressure and transforms from increasing to decreasing with the increase of k value (ranging from 0.2 to 0.4). In brief, the loess failure strength is closely related to k value, confining stress, and spherical stress state. When k value increases, cohesion effect reduces, whereas internal friction angle increases linearly. The wide applications of X-ray computed tomography (CT) bring low-dose CT (LDCT) into a clinical prerequisite, but reducing the radiation exposure in CT often leads to significantly increased noise and artifacts, which might lower the judgment accuracy of radiologists. In this paper, we put forward a domain progressive 3D residual convolution network (DP-ResNet) for the LDCT imaging procedure that contains three stages: sinogram domain network (SD-net), filtered back projection (FBP), and image domain network (ID-net). Though both are based on the residual network structure, the SD-net and ID-net provide complementary effect on improving the final LDCT quality. The experimental results with both simulated and real projection data show that this domain progressive deep-learning network achieves significantly improved performance by combing the network processing in the two domains. It is believed that rare variants play an important role in human phenotypes; however, the detection of rare variants is extremely challenging due to their very low minor allele frequency. In this paper, the likelihood ratio test (LRT) and restricted likelihood ratio test (ReLRT) are proposed to test the association of rare variants based on the linear mixed effects model, where a group of rare variants are treated as random effects. Like the sequence kernel association test (SKAT), a state-of-the-art method for rare variant detection, LRT and ReLRT can effectively overcome the problem of directionality of effect inherent in the burden test in practice. By taking full advantage of the spectral decomposition, exact finite sample null distributions for LRT and ReLRT are obtained by simulation. We perform extensive numerical studies to evaluate the performance of LRT and ReLRT, and compare to the burden test, SKAT and SKAT-O. The simulations have shown that LRT and ReLRT can correctly control the type I error, and the controls are robust to the weights chosen and the number of rare variants under study. LRT and ReLRT behave similarly to the burden test when all the causal rare variants share the same direction of effect, and outperform SKAT across various situations. When both positive and negative effects exist, LRT and ReLRT suffer from few power reductions compared to the other two competing methods; under this case, an additional finding from our simulations is that SKAT-O is no longer the optimal test, and its power is even lower than that of SKAT. The adaptive significance and mechanism of patterns in floral sex allocation and female success within inflorescences has attracted attention recently, whereas few studies have examined genetic variation of intra-inflorescence pattern. The purpose of this study is to investigate patterns of reproduction within racemes in protandrous Aconitum gymnandrum Maxim., and illuminate potential mechanisms and genetic variation of such patterns. Data from pot experiment on 40 maternal families were collected in field. Anther number, pollen:ovule ratio and seed germination rate increased from bottom to top flowers within racemes, but other traits, such as gynoecium mass, carpel number, sepal galea height and seed production decreased significantly with flowering sequence. Variation in floral sex allocation within racemes in A. gymnandrum fitted entirely the prediction of protandry, which was not a result of architectural effect. Such selected pattern may result from a variety of factors influencing the mating environment, such as pollinator directionality, display size and flower longevity. Decline of female success within racemes in A. gymnandrum also resulted from male-biased allocation selected by variation in the mating environment, not resource competition or pollen limitation. Background: The WRKY gene family is one of the most important families in higher plants. As transcription factors, they actively respond to biotic and abiotic stress and are also involved in plant development. Chinese jujube (Ziziphus jujuba Mill.) is the largest type of dried fruit tree in China in terms of production, but its production is largely limited by phytoplasma infection, and the information about the role of WRKY genes under phytoplasma stress was still limited. Results: We identified 54 ZjWRKYs in the jujube genome and classified them into three subgroups according to conserved WRKY domains and zinc-finger structure. 41 ZjWRKYs were distributed on 11 of 12 pseudo chromosomes in Chinese jujube. The majority of ZjWRKYs were highly expressed in the seven examined tissues, indicating that they play multiple roles in these vegetative and reproductive organs. Transcriptome data showed that most of the characterised ZjWRKYs were highly expressed at later stages of fruit development. RT-qPCR demonstrated that the expression of 23 ZjWRKYs changed following phytoplasma infection, suggesting that they are involved in signalling pathways that respond to phytoplasma stress. Then, STRING analysis and yeast two-hybrid screening proved that some ZjWRKY proteins were interacting with ZjMAPKK proteins, which were also involved in phytoplasma invasion. Moreover, their differential expressions were further confirmed in resistant and susceptible jujube varieties under phytoplasma stress. These results suggest that ZjWRKYs play significant roles in phytoplasma tolerance and should be crucial candidate genes for jujube-phytoplasma interaction. Conclusions: 54 ZjWRKYs in Chinese jujube were identified and classified into three subgroups. 41 ZjWRKYs were unevenly distributed along the chromosomes. The majority of ZjWRKYs were highly expressed in various tissues.
