The shortage of fuel and energy resources, the increase in natural gas prices and the continuous increase in gas consumption indicate the relevance of the issues of measuring the natural gas amount and assessing its quality indicators. Ukraine is implementing the European methodology for calculating gas consumption based on its quality and efficiency. The problem of determining the gas quality in Ukraine requires a thorough assessment and research. The main physical and chemical indicator of the natural gas quality, which characterizes its energy value, is the specific volumetric gas heat of combustion. The value of this parameter differs for different gas fields. The gas heat of combustion determines the efficiency of its use both in everyday life and in industry. The aim of the work is to analyze the main methods for determining the calorific value of natural gas. The gas heat of combustion is determined by calorimetric, chromatographic and correlation methods. The calorimetric method is characterized by the complexity of the measurement process, complete combustion of the test gas, and long term process. This ensures the objectivity of the results, which is based on taking into account the moisture content of the gas and the presence of non-combustible components in it. The basis of the chromatographic method is the separation of the components of a gas sample in a chromatographic column. The result is a chromatogram that shows the percentage composition of hydrocarbons in the gas. The characteristic properties of the method are the identification of a wide range of components and the repeatability of the results. When using correlation methods for determining the heating value of natural gas, various physicochemical parameters of samples are measured (such as total hydrocarbon concentration, heat capacity, acoustic wave propagation velocity, carbon dioxide concentration, thermal conductivity, dielectric constant, dynamic viscosity, and others). Correlation dependence is based on the choice and association of such parameters. This dependence is studied on different test gas mixtures and allows us to determine the empirical dependence. The mixtures correspond to gases with different calorific values. The obtained empirical dependence is used to register the heat of combustion of real natural gas. Кореляційна залежність, що грунтується на виборі та об’єднанні таких параметрів, досліджується на різних тестових газових сумішах, що відповідають газу з різною теплотою згоряння, дозволяє отримати емпіричну залежність. Остання слугує основою для реєстрації теплоти згоряння реального природного газу. В роботі оцінено особливості застосування зазначених методів та приладів на їх основі.

Highlands are a new frontier to produce fine wines in the Southern region of Brazil (27º 12' 24" S, 51º 06' 96" W, 1211 m altitude) and has presented specific oenological characteristics with a good adaptation of some varieties, among them, Canaiolo nero. To characterize the wines of this region, during the 2012 and 2014 harvests the volatile compounds were determined through the MHS-SPME-GC-MS technique. The grapes were harvested, and samples analyzed in triplicate. The positive identification of the volatile compounds was performed by comparing the experimentally obtained mass spectrum and retention index with the reference spectra and retention indices available in the literature. Four consecutive extractions were used for quantitative evaluation to avoid a matrix effect. Odor activity value was calculated from the perception threshold for each evaluated compound. The mean soluble solids content was 21.55o Brix, and total acid content was 81.0 meq L-1; the mean weight of the clusters was 176 g, and the productivity was 2.2 tons per hectare (espalier – 1.5 m × 3.0 m). Thirty-one volatile compounds were identified and quantified in the analyzed samples. The major components were the aromatic alcohol 2-phenylethanol (38.364 µg L-1), and the esters diethyl succinate (6.357 µg L-1) and ethyl acetate (2.005 µg L-1); and the compound of class C6, 1-hexanol (3.2 µg L-1). Odor activity values showed the compounds that contribute the most to the aroma of the analyzed wines, highlighting ethyl isovalerate (OAV 394.38), ethyl hexanoate (OAV 9.22), ethyl cinnamate (OAV 8.62) ethyl isobutanoate (OAV 5.59), β-damascenone (OAV 2.44), hexanoic acid (OAV 4.03), octanoic acid (OAV 3.64) and isoamyl acetate (OAV 3.01). These results showed the aroma characteristics of Santa Catarina wines of the Canaiolo nero variety, especially fruity aromas of apple, green apple, strawberry, plum and banana; and floral aroma of violet and roses.

This study validates the analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in microgram levels of particulate matter (PM) collected on filters by two low-flow rate, real-time monitors, microPEM™ and microAeth®. Particle-associated PAHs were analyzed by a coupling of a gas chromatograph to a sensitive, atmospheric-pressure laser ionization-mass spectrometer. Air particulate samples were collected over the course of one or two days in the living room of a fourth-floor apartment in New York City. Three types of samplers, the two aforementioned personal samplers and a high-flow rate pump (4 liters per minute), were operated side by side, and three samples of each type were collected during each sampling period. Intrasampler agreement as measured by relative standard deviation (RSD) was within 1% to 18%. After background subtraction, total PAH measured by all three sampler types had good agreement (R=0.99). This ability to accurately characterize personal PAH exposure in archived filters collected by these real-time samplers could provide additional important PAH exposure information that can benefit many environmental health studies using these monitors.

The review of new models of scientific instruments manufactured by Japanese corporation SHIMADZU has been made. Lliquid and gas chromatographs, mass spectrometers, LCMS and GCMS, IR range spectrophotometer, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometers, particle size analyzer, micro hardness tester have been considered. The special attention has been paid to extention of analytical possibilities related to technical features of instruments.

The growing demand for environmental safety elevates the importance of this analysis in order to provide the use of such waste. As a result, there is an increase in the need for analysts to develop fast, reliable and accurate methods. The solid phase microextraction (SPME) is a technical evolution, which reduces the sample preparation and therefore reduces the time of analysis and solvent extraction. There are few reports in the literature using this technique in the analysis of volatile organic acids and detection and quantification of organic acids in cassava, and it may be a promising technique for low generation of organic waste in the analysis, since there is no use of solvents in the extraction and in the chromatographic method. The anaerobic digestion process occurs in manipueira, in which there is the formation of volatile acids such as acetic, propionic, butyric. The objective of this study is to implement a method of analysis in a gas chromatograph using SPME Solid Phase Microextraction to detect and quantify organic acids in manipueira. To optimize the conditions of the method, the DCCR 23 experimental design was used, with the factors of exposure time of the fiber, NaCl concentration and heating, which contributed to determine the best conditions of the method. The factors that most influenced the determining recovery of the acids: acetic acid the time of exposure of the fiber and the concentration of NaCl; propionic acid concentration of NaCl and heating; and butyric acid heating and NaCl concentration. The desirability technique allowed the simultaneous evaluation of responses and the optimal conditions for the method. The process presented overall desirability of 91.86% and levels of the factors defined in the following condition: exposure time of the fiber of 23.24 minutes, NaCl concentration to 40% and heating of the solution equal to 65 °C. A manipueira é gerada no processo de fabricação de farinha pela prensagem da massa ralada da mandioca, resultando em um resíduo líquido que apresenta uma composição rica em nutrientes e um elevado teor poluente e, por isso, existem propostas, baseadas em pesquisas de diversos autores, com o objetivo de agregar valor à manipueira como subproduto para diminuir a poluição ambiental. A crescente demanda pela segurança ambiental eleva a importância dessa análise a fim de proporcionar o aproveitamento desses resíduos. Com isso, amplia a necessidade dos analistas em desenvolver métodos rápidos, confiáveis e precisos. A Microextração em fase sólida (MEFS) é uma evolução técnica que reduz o preparo da amostra e, assim, reduz o tempo de análise e também da extração com solvente. Existem poucos trabalhos na literatura com a utilização dessa técnica na análise de ácidos orgânicos voláteis e na detecção e na quantificação de ácidos orgânicos em manipueira, podendo ser uma técnica promissora e de baixa geração de resíduos orgânicos na análise, uma vez que não há utilização de solvente na extração e no método cromatográfico. O processo de digestão anaeróbia ocorre na manipueira formando os ácidos voláteis, como: acético, propiônico e butírico, entre outros. O objetivo deste trabalho é propor a implantação de método de análise em cromatógrafo a gás utilizando o MEFS para detectar e quantificar ácidos orgânicos em manipueira. Para a otimização das condições do método foi utilizado o planejamento experimental DCCR 23, com os fatores tempo de exposição da fibra, concentração de NaCl e aquecimento que contribuíram para determinar as melhores condições do método. Os fatores que mais influenciaram na recuperação dos ácidos: acético foram o tempo de exposição da fibra e a concentração de NaCl; para propiônico foram concentração de NaCl e aquecimento; e, para o ácido butírico aquecimento e concentração de NaCl. A técnica de desejabilidade permitiu a avaliação simultânea das respostas e as condições ótimas para o método. O processo apresentou desejabilidade global de 91,86%, sendo os níveis dos fatores definidos na seguinte condição: tempo de exposição da fibra de 23:24 minutos, concentração de NaCl a 40% e aquecimento da solução igual a 65 ºC.

An analytical protocol combining a headspace technique with gas chromatography and detection byphotoionization detector andflame ionization detector (HS-GC-PID-FID) was developed. This procedure wasused to measure volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in environmental aqueous matrices and was applied indetermination of VOCs on the coast of Fortaleza, Brazil. At optimum operating conditions, analyticalfiguresof merit such as linearity (Rranged from 0.9983 to 0.9993), repeatability (5.62 to 9.63% and 0.02 to 0.19% forthe quantitative and qualitative analyses, respectively), detection limits (0.22 to 7.48μgL−1) and sensibilitywere estimated. This protocol favors a fast sampling/sample preparation (in situ), minimizes the use oflaboratory material, eliminates the matrix effect from environmental samples, and can be applied to river,estuarine and oceanic waters. The advantage of detectors in series is that a low sensitivity in detection in one iscompensated by the other. Toluene was the most abundant VOC in the studied area, with an averageconcentration of 1.63μgL−1. It was followed byo-xylene (1.15μgL−1), trichloroethene (1.08μgL−1), benzene(0.86μgL−1), ethylbenzene (0.74μgL−1), carbon tetrachloride (0.55μgL−1),m/p-xylene (0.48μgL−1)andtetrachloroethene (0.46μgL−1), compounds which are very commonly detected in urban runoff from mostcities. The results of the VOC distribution showed that port activity was not the main source of VOCs along theFortaleza Coast, but that the contribution from urban runoff seemed more significant.
