Purpose: Multiple knowledge sources inform healthcare. In healthcare encounters, patients and health professionals' ideas intersect to understand illness and disease. Exploring what is thought of as legitimate knowledge, and where those reflections come from is central to the process of improving and developing healthcare. Within this context, we aim to explore how knowledge about hand osteoarthritis (OA) is constructed and negotiated in clinical consultations. Methodology: The article is based on interviews with 21 patients and 14 health professionals in combination with observation in 16 clinical consultations. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. Results: We generated four themes from codes to tell an interpretive story about how hand OA meaning-making is "talked into being" in patient-provider encounters: from the dominant voice of health professionals, from patients as knowers in the chronic healthcare dialogue, from health professionals and patients constructing knowledge together and from the construction of knowledge in hybrid positions when patients are health professionals and health professionals have hand OA. Conclusion: New knowledge about hand OA is co-constructed in the situated context of the clinical encounter through a polyphony of voices—some of which are dominant, while others occupy the periphery—within and between the interactants in dialgue. Abstract Moral education has become an urgency in shaping students' character through school learning. The purpose of this research is to produce a digital-based learning material product that is suitable for use by Pancasila Education teachers in the learning process for students. The research method used is research and development using the 4D development model consisting of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. Product validation will be conducted by content validator, media validator, Pancasila Education teacher, and 33 seventh-grade students. The results of the study show that moral education is a need for students to overcome deviant behavior. Teachers must also be able to create effective, efficient, and enjoyable learning activities. The developed digital-based website learning material obtained a very suitable category from the content expert validation with a score of 91%, media expert validation 98%, Pancasila Education teacher assessment 92% and was considered very interesting by students with a score of 91%. It can be concluded that the digital learning material with the material on the position, function, and application of Pancasila values is highly suitable and recommended for use in the Pancasila Education learning process. ----------------------------- Abstrak Pendidikan moral menjadi urgensi dalam membentuk karakter peserta didik melalui pembelajaran di sekolah. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menghasilkan produk berupa materi pembelajaran berbasis digital yang layak digunakan oleh guru Pendidikan Pancasila dalam proses pembelajaran pada peserta didik. Jenis Penelitian yang digunakan yaitu research and development dengan menggunakan model pengembangan 4D yang terdiri dari tahap define, design, develop, dan disseminate. Uji validasi produk akan dilakukan oleh validasi materi, validasi media dan guru Pendidikan Pancasila serta siswa kelas VII sebanyak 33 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa edukasi moral menjadi kebutuhan siswa untuk mengatasi perilaku menyimpang. Guru juga harus dapat menciptakan kegiatan pembelajaran yang efektif, efisien, dan menyenangkan. Materi pembelajaran berbasis digital website yang dikembangkan memperoleh penilaian kategori sangat layak dari validasi ahli materi dengan skor 91%, validasi ahli media 98%, penilaian guru Pendidikan Pancasila 92% dan diperoleh kategori sangat menarik dari siswa dengan skor 91%. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa materi pembelajaran digital dengan matan materi kedudukan, fungsi dan penerapan nilai-nilai Pancasila sangat layak dan direkomendasikan untuk digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran Pendidikan Pancasila.

Background: Though the relationship between engineering and commercial enterprise has been documented for well over the last century, there is little research that addresses how students, and specifically Black males, make meaning of this relationship. Purpose/Hypothesis: In this study, we explored interview data from 20 Black male engineering students from across the United States to understand how they construct enterprise related knowledge. Design/Method: As a product of an overarching Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis project, this study involved secondary analysis of interview data. After conducting three stages (descriptive, linguistic, and conceptual) of analysis, two themes were constructed. Results: The findings consisted of two knowledge constructs that were developed from participants’ accounts. The Educational Construct defined how participants described enterprise related learning and the Economic Construct demonstrated participants’ knowledge of the economic enterprise of engineering. Conclusions: These findings demonstrate participants’ ability to develop meaningful educational and economic constructs, and they showcase Black males in engineering education as assets to the field. Implications of this study include opportunities for undergraduate engineering students to gain and apply formal enterprise knowledge and future research which primarily and intentionally assesses the process and product of engineering students’ construction of enterprise-related knowledge.

With the rapid advancement of information technology, mobile interaction technologies have emerged as a pivotal force driving educational innovation, especially in the realm of entrepreneurial education. These technologies have not only transformed the methods of acquiring and sharing knowledge but have also facilitated interaction and collaboration among learners. This investigation aims to explore how mobile interaction technologies can foster innovation in entrepreneurial education models. The focus is specifically placed on the construction of a mobile interaction-based collaborative learning team environment model oriented towards knowledge building as well as on identifying collaborative strategies that can effectively enhance entrepreneurial learning teams based on mobile localized influence networks. It has been discovered that optimizing mobile learning environments and collaborative strategies improves the quality of interaction and learning outcomes among teams, providing new pathways for entrepreneurial education. Existing research, however, lacks a comprehensive discussion on the deep integration of mobile interaction technologies with entrepreneurial education, especially in terms of systematic studies on team collaboration and the process of knowledge construction. Through theoretical exploration and empirical analysis, this manuscript aims to bridge the research gap, providing theoretical and practical support for innovation in entrepreneurial education models. This editorial discusses specific coordinates for thinking about decolonial perspectives from Latin America. It explores the notions of academic dependence, epistemic colonialism and situated thought as axes within the decolonial perspective. It also extends an invitation to Latin American music therapists to participate in a special edition to be published in 2025. Lastly, a brief description of the articles included in this journal edition is provided. Resumen Este editorial contempla certas coordenadas para pensar sobre as perspectivas decoloniais da América Latina. Ele explora as noções de dependência acadêmica, colonialismo epistêmico e pensamento situado como eixos dentro da perspectiva decolonial. Também faz um convite aos musicoterapeutas latino-americanos para participarem de uma edição especial a ser publicada em 2025. Por fim, é apresentada uma breve descrição dos artigos incluídos nesta edição da revista. Abstract This article discusses the application of Heideggerian perspectives on existentialism in civic education programs in Indonesia and their critique on the construction of knowledge and the implementation of citizenship values in the education system. The research findings indicate that the concepts of authenticity and ontological education in civic education complement each other in developing individuals as citizens who have a deep understanding of themselves, social responsibility, and the meaning of existence. This approach also prepares them to face the challenges of globalization and world changes, considering the social and historical contexts that influence individuals, thus fostering a caring, responsible, and knowledgeable society. However, the development of civic education programs at the tertiary level in Indonesia needs to consider the critique from Heideggerian perspectives to balance empowering individuals to seek personal life meaning and developing citizenship values inherent in individuals as citizens. Higher education civic education is expected to produce citizens with intellectual competence and strengthen their sense of social responsibility through civic engagement as young citizens in building an inclusive, just, and harmonious public sphere. -------------- Abstrak Artikel ini membahas penerapan perspektif Heideggerian tentang eksistensialisme dalam program pendidikan kewarganegaraan di Indonesia serta kritiknya terhadap konstruksi pengetahuan dan implementasi nilai-nilai kewarganegaraan dalam sistem pendidikan. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa konsep autentisitas dan pendidikan ontologis dalam pendidikan kewarganegaraan saling melengkapi untuk mengembangkan individu sebagai warga negara yang memiliki pemahaman mendalam tentang diri sendiri, tanggung jawab sosial, dan makna keberadaan. Pendekatan ini juga mempersiapkan mereka menghadapi tantangan globalisasi dan perubahan dunia dengan memperhatikan konteks sosial dan sejarah yang mempengaruhi individu, sehingga membentuk masyarakat yang peduli, bertanggung jawab, dan berpengetahuan luas. Namun, pengembangan program pendidikan kewarganegaraan di perguruan tinggi di Indonesia perlu mempertimbangkan kritik perspektif Heideggerian untuk mencapai keseimbangan antara pemberdayaan individu dalam mencari makna kehidupan pribadi dan pengembangan nilai-nilai kewarganegaraan yang melekat pada individu sebagai warga negara. Pendidikan kewarganegaraan di perguruan tinggi diharapkan mampu menghasilkan warga negara yang memiliki kecerdasan intelektual dan memperkuat rasa tanggung jawab sosial melalui keterlibatan kewarganegaraan sebagai warga negara muda dalam membangun ruang publik yang inklusif, adil, dan harmonis.

Abstract In the evolving landscape of higher education, challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic have underscored the necessity for innovative teaching methodologies. These challenges have catalyzed the integration of technology into education, particularly in blended learning environments, to bolster self-regulated learning (SRL) and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). However, increased autonomy in blended learning can lead to learning disruptions if issues are not promptly addressed. In this context, OpenAI's ChatGPT, known for its extensive knowledge base and immediate feedback capability, emerges as a significant educational resource. Nonetheless, there are concerns that students might become excessively dependent on such tools, potentially hindering their development of HOTS. To address these concerns, this study introduces the Guidance-based ChatGPT-assisted Learning Aid (GCLA). This approach modifies the use of ChatGPT in educational settings by encouraging students to attempt problem-solving independently before seeking ChatGPT assistance. When engaged, the GCLA provides guidance through hints rather than direct answers, fostering an environment conducive to the development of SRL and HOTS. A randomized controlled trial (RCT) was employed to examine the impact of the GCLA compared to traditional ChatGPT use in a foundational chemistry course within a blended learning setting. This study involved 61 undergraduate students from a university in Taiwan. The findings reveal that the GCLA enhances SRL, HOTS, and knowledge construction compared to traditional ChatGPT use. These results directly align with the research objective to improve learning outcomes through providing guidance rather than answers by ChatGPT. In conclusion, the introduction of the GCLA has not only facilitated more effective learning experiences in blended learning environments but also ensured that students engage more actively in their educational journey. The implications of this study highlight the potential of ChatGPT-based tools in enhancing the quality of higher education, particularly in fostering essential skills such as self-regulation and HOTS. Furthermore, this research offers insights regarding the more effective use of ChatGPT in education.

The purposes of this study were to explore students’ learning performance, knowledge construction, and behavioral patterns in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) online discussions with/without using Form+Theme+Context (FTC) model guidance scaffolding in visual imagery education. In the online learning activities, the control group did not use the FTC model guidance scaffolding, while the experimental group did. This study employed quantitative content analysis and sequential analysis to investigate the discussion content and behavioral patterns of 63 students from a private university in Taiwan during online discussion learning activities. Results showed that the learning performance of the students in the experimental group outperformed that of students in the control group. Moreover, the study revealed that the two groups of students were primarily sharing or comparing information during discussion. More behaviors of exploring opinions and concepts and communicating or constructing knowledge among group members were observed in the experimental group. Secondly, students in the experimental group participated more in knowledge construction than did students in the control group, and their behavioral patterns were more diverse. Accordingly, this study shows that incorporating the FTC model into learning with sufficient guidance from the instructor could be useful for improving students’ visual imagery analysis abilities.

In the academic world, the challenge of research and creativity is on the minds of researchers. Technology has facilitated aspects of this reality. However, for many of them, and especially for beginners, the construction of knowledge maintains its demands. João Batista Libanio was a theologian who was attentive and careful and also sought to be a facilitator of this process, both in his guidance and in his writings. How can we build knowledge autonomously? He stimulated skills so that the heuristic method of knowledge could be developed. There are steps to be taken in this research process, and this is the aim of this reflection: to share the experience of the master-disciple relationship, as well as his writings, in order to enable those interested, particularly in the area of Religious Sciences and Theology, to develop their art of building knowledge. This text not only reflects but also promotes the methodological maintenance of the relationship between theory and practice in the process and art of building and sharing knowledge. This study used sequential exploratory, mixed-method research that explored the influence of authentic tasks on adult language learners' interactions in eforums. The participants belonged to a blended-flipped program of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Eforum posting in the course aimed at encouraging beginner learners to exchange experiences; however, participation in the eforums did not evolve into spontaneous interactions. Therefore, authentic tasks were designed and implemented in the eforum. Data were gathered from learners' participation registers, surveys, and interviews and by executing a contentanalysis procedure. After analyzing the data, one main category and three subcategories emerged. The main category showed that implementing authentic tasks on students' eforums interactions led to the collaborative construction of a cognitive-social elearning environment. The main category comprised three subcategories: (a) building a learning community by interweaving affective-communicative actions, (b) promoting an online learning environment through authenticity, and (c) moving from individual to collective knowledge construction. Findings suggest that the implementation of authentic tasks on eforums: (a) increased learners' meaningful interactions mediated by social, cognitive, and teaching presences; (b) helped to construct significant and lifelong knowledge collectively; and (c) fostered a stronger learning community through participants' affective-communicative actions. The growing usage of digital technologies raised concerns regarding the possible adverse effects of digital amnesia, in which people forget readily available knowledge saved in their gadgets. This study investigated the effects of digital amnesia on memory retention and knowledge construction through experiment studies. The tasks given to the participants required either digital devices or more conventional memory storage and retrieval methods. Memory performance and knowledge construction were assessed through various tests and assessments. The findings indicated that excessive reliance on digital devices for information storage led to digital amnesia. Participants who used digital tools exhibited lower memory retention and shallower information processing compared to those employing traditional memory strategies. The results highlighted the negative implications of digital amnesia for memory retention and knowledge construction. Striking a balance between reliance on digital tools and active engagement in memory processes was crucial. Actively encoding and retrieving information can mitigate risks associated with shallow processing and information overload.

This paper will present the results of a study of an educational project on visual metaphors in children’s initiated discourse. The purpose of the study was to identify children’s metaphorical skills in recognizing similarities and noticing differences between the target domain and the source domain of visual metaphor in Iwona Chmielewska’s artistic picture book Two People, dedicated to the issue of community. In the designed didactic intervention activities, the research material came from participant observation, focus interviews and analysis of children’s creations (graphic visualizations). The research was carried out with a group of third-graders in selected elementary schools, in a metropolitan environment. The results of the research show children’s preferences for translating one area of metaphor by another, as well as strategies for constructing children’s knowledge about life in the community. In addition, they point to the need to expand the educational environment in Polish educational culture.

The mnemonic method is one of the procedures that is considered effective for improving students’ learning outcomes and memory. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the mnemonics methods in improving students' retention and learning outcomes in Biology class on the System of Biological Classifications. The pre-experimental method with one group of pre-test and post-test design was applied in this study. Thirty students of a secondary school in Pontianak were used as research samples taken by using intact group random sampling. The learning outcomes test used was 20 multiple-choice questions with four options having a validity level of 0.86 and a reliability of 0.87. This research addresses the scarcity of studies examining how participants in higher education exchange programmes, specifically the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) programme, use situated learning experiences to develop professional knowledge. To fill this gap, the study examined how FLTAs construct and reconstruct teaching knowledge during their fellowship. Grounded in situated learning theory and experiential learning, the phenomenological design aligns with interpretive and qualitative traditions. The 2017–2018 cohort, comprising six FLTAs, participated in focused group discussions. Data analysis, utilising grounded theory approach, revealed that FLTAs constructed knowledge through structured programmes and personal-social experiences, employing introspective, retrospective, and prospective reflection practices. Additionally, participants emphasised the impact of accommodating and adapting beliefs, values, and dilemmas in challenging assumptions about higher education teaching and learning. This study contributes to a novel understanding of how planned activities and authentic experiences form the basis for professional knowledge construction across continents. Transdisciplinary contribution: The transdisciplinary nature of this study allows for a holistic exploration of the process of teaching knowledge construction. By integrating insights from teacher knowledge construction, cognitive psychology, higher education teaching, inter-cultural practices and continuous professional development, this research provides a comprehensive understanding of how Fulbright FLTAs construct their professional knowledge during their fellowship. The study highlights the complexity of knowledge development, considering the cognitive processes involved, and addresses the context of higher education teaching and inter-cultural experiences. By emphasising the importance of continuous learning and growth, this research contributes to the field of teachers’ knowledge development.

This study explored the effects of peer interactions on kindergarten children’s construction of conservation and conflict resolution knowledge during storybook reading. Previous studies have identified that peer interactions can support the meaning-making processes of children in social relationships and problem-solving, but little is known about whether the interaction with mixed-age or more competent peers is more important in supporting knowledge construction. Sixty-four younger children in K2 and older children in K3 with similar socioeconomic backgrounds were recruited from a Montessori kindergarten in Kunming, China. An experimental design was applied to explore age group and conserver dominance effects on conservation and conflict resolution. Children were assigned randomly to eight groups in three 30-to-40-min intervention sessions. Each session had a different theme for the children to learn about conservation and conflict resolution concepts and a hands-on activity to practice and discuss. ANOVAs were performed to test group effects, while multiple regression analyses were conducted to explore individual variations in age and pre-test scores in predicting post-test scores. Conservation knowledge was significantly better among children who differed in age groups in the post-test, but differences were not found in conflict resolution knowledge. Groups balanced with equal conservers and non-conservers improved the best, suggesting that peer social interactions can facilitate conservation and conflict resolution construction. These results provide new insights for early childhood educators to support peer interactions and children’s development. Implications, limitations, and future research are discussed.

The objective of this work is to discuss the talk-in-interaction organization in a classroom of Portuguese as non-mother language, focusing on the structure of revoicing. Descriptions of its characteristics are presented, comparing with the IRE sequence, and excerpts are analyzed in a Portuguese classroom recorded on video at a university in Macau, with the participation of a Brazilian professor and Chinese students. Through ethnographic microanalysis, it is shown how the participants position themselves, constructing knowledge and creating the local context and environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The focus of this paper is on Dalton-Puffer’s construct of the Cognitive Discourse Function (cdf) (2013), which offers clil teachers a practical framework through which they can more easily understand the complex idea of integrating the content, cognition, and language required for their subject. These functions have mainly been addressed from classroom observations or task prompts, and little is known about their teachability and effectiveness on students’ content knowledge. Purpose: This paper explores whether the cdf of ‘comparing’ (a subcategory of ‘classify’) can be taught to Spanish seventh-grade clil biology students (N = 37) and examines the effect of teaching it explicitly on their written performance. Method: An operational framework was developed to define this cdf and an exploratory study was performed in which students were asked to hand in written comparisons. Quantitative and qualitative pre-and post-tests were applied. Results: Significant results were obtained for the experimental groups, which improved in both content and language learning, scoring higher on inclusion of content points, justification of their scientific claims, concept formation and use of lexico-grammatical forms. Conclusion: These findings add to our understanding of the importance of integrating cognition and language in teaching and learning natural sciences, within which CDFs can be a useful starting point.

Abstract Background The goal of this research was to determine students’ perceived self-efficacy in science classes through involving students in expanding disciplinary core idea (DCI) and interdisciplinary core idea (ICI) maps, as a method to visualize knowledge (utilizing mind mapping and concept mapping) to support students to integrate interdisciplinary learning. The research involved (a) creating (by science educators) eight curriculum-related, disciplinary core idea maps and two interdisciplinary core idea maps; (b) teachers guiding students in an experimental group, to make interdisciplinary connections so as to expand DCI and ICI maps in an intervention lasting a year and a half from grade 10 to 11; (c) providing feedback on students’ developed DCI and ICI maps; (d) administering questionnaires seeking students’ perceptions about their self-efficacy towards core ideas, both before and after the intervention and (e) interviewing science teachers (5) and selected students (25), after the intervention, about their perceptions towards the use and outcomes of their DCI and ICI maps. Besides the experimental group, a control group (no intervention) was involved. Results Outcomes showed that the intervention (guiding students in creating disciplinary and interdisciplinary core idea maps to visualize their learning) supported students significantly in their perceived self-efficacy in the fields of Life Science and Earth Science, plus in the use of Models and Systems. In Physics and Chemistry, the students’ perceived self-efficacy was not statistically significantly positive after the conducted intervention. This stemmed from disciplinary core ideas, related to Physics and Chemistry, being more abstract, with students making fewer connections and integrating less new knowledge into the related DCI and ICI maps. In the interviews, both teachers and students stated that the intervention (including expansion of DCI and ICI maps) supported students’ science learning. Conclusions Creating and expanding disciplinary and interdisciplinary core ideas more clearly indicates students’ learning, through their ability to make meaningful connections, enabling students to raise their self-efficacy in preparing for their future. The results from this research demonstrate that students’ perceived self-efficacy can occur through knowledge visualization by expanding both DCI and ICI maps enabling the making of greater interdisciplinary connections.

Massive open online courses (MOOCs) have increasingly become an important element for individuals’ learning and development. However, MOOCs mainly concentrate on duplicating knowledge instead of constructing it. This research aims to explore the structure of the MOOCs for fostering the knowledge construction in which educational professional build, develop, share one another’ learning and reflections. This research focused on Coursera, a particular MOOC community, by drawing on the concepts of community of practice (CoP) as a theoretical lens. Three types of data were collected. The archival data consisted of the top and selected posts from online discussion forums, and the elicited data which was derived from over 60 interviews with Coursera learners. Meanwhile, field note data was extracted from 160 days of interaction with the participants. A qualitative research method using a netnographic methodology was employed. The findings contribute to the body of knowledge construction and online communities by providing an understanding of the domain, community and practice elements. The study on other elements such as the reinforcement of identity, formation of warrants and identification of mechanisms for legitimate peripheral participation can help to interpret the constitution of CoPs in MOOC. This research developed a Coursera community framework that generally makes a MOOC community more energetic to construct knowledge.

A major barrier to advancing ornithology is the systemic exclusion of professionals from the Global South. A recent special feature, Advances in Neotropical Ornithology, and a shortfalls analysis therein, unintentionally followed a long-standing pattern of highlighting individuals, knowledge, and views from the Global North, while largely omitting the perspectives of people based within the Neotropics. Here, we review current strengths and opportunities in the practice of Neotropical ornithology. Further, we discuss problems with assessing the state of Neotropical ornithology through a northern lens, including discovery narratives, incomplete (and biased) understanding of history and advances, and the promotion of agendas that, while currently popular in the north, may not fit the needs and realities of Neotropical research. We argue that future advances in Neotropical ornithology will critically depend on identifying and addressing the systemic barriers that hold back ornithologists who live and work in the Neotropics: unreliable and limited funding, exclusion from international research leadership, restricted dissemination of knowledge (e.g., through language hegemony and citation bias), and logistical barriers. Moving forward, we must examine and acknowledge the colonial roots of our discipline, and explicitly promote anti-colonial agendas for research, training, and conservation. We invite our colleagues within and beyond the Neotropics to join us in creating new models of governance that establish research priorities with vigorous participation of ornithologists and communities within the Neotropical region. To include a diversity of perspectives, we must systemically address discrimination and bias rooted in the socioeconomic class system, anti-Blackness, anti-Brownness, anti-Indigeneity, misogyny, homophobia, tokenism, and ableism. Instead of seeking individual excellence and rewarding top-down leadership, institutions in the North and South can promote collective leadership. In adopting these approaches, we, ornithologists, will join a community of researchers across academia building new paradigms that can reconcile our relationships and transform science. To cope with the spectacular progress of technology, university education in Algeria has placed a lot of emphasis on delivering instructions through the eLearning platform. This paper explores the usefulness of eLearning in improving the students' learning experiences to undertake research projects. No empirical studies have been conducted on the efficacy of online teaching research methodologies in Algerian EFL contexts. The current research tries to show and an in-depth look at the efficacy of teaching the Research Techniques module online. It attempts to answer the question: To what extent has the e-Learning platform been effective in teaching/learning research methods to Algerian EFL students? To this aim, the researcher's gleaning of data was from a questionnaire distributed to 86 third-year students of English in the department of foreign languages at Naama University Center and a semi-structured interview with three teachers from the same context. The findings reported that e-learning has influenced the educational process and positively affected students' knowledge construction and reflexivity. It has also increased their personal and empirical skills to conduct research projects despite some challenging features. This research will be of broad interest to EFL teachers willing to use eLearning in their methodology courses besides improving their teaching. The reported acceptability of eLearning might be utilized to influence policy and counter the traditional teaching methods used in Algerian institutions. This article shows the necessity to reflect on curricular issues using the Epistemology of Complexity, substantiating the importance of this theory to move the curriculum away from the Cartesian Methodology and from the positivist logic that, by dissociating and compartmentalizing knowledge, inhibits the possibilities of analysis and the understanding of the whole. Therefore, the concepts of curriculum and complexity are discussed, also the importance of this relationship and the possible developments for the education field. In this wake, permeated by Morinian principles, the production developed in this text presents conceptual links that dialogue with Jean Piaget's Genetic Psychology and its relationship with skills and competencies development, highlighting the didactic and epistemological foundations that favor the learning process. From the inside of these movements, it is possible to observe the need for a comprehensive, generous, and flexible curriculum planning, that is open to the creativity and to the new, welcoming uncertainty and new cognitive effervescences. Abstract This study examined how the knowledge market promotes knowledge construction on question-and-answer (Q&A) websites. Data were collected from Zhihu, one of the largest Q&A sites in China. Hierarchical linear modeling was employed to estimate the dynamics of information accumulation, that is, the provision of informative content as factual construction. By employing information accumulation as the objective measure of knowledge construction, we determined that online knowledge construction was facilitated by a competitive marketplace of ideas. In addition, participation, temporal, and discourse features affected the dynamics of information accumulation. In specific, active users contributed significantly less to information accumulation than did ordinary users. Information accumulation shows a naturally decaying process represented as a function of answer order. The time interval between answers at the two preceding time points reduced the informativeness of answers at the subsequent time point. Answers with a higher readability score reduced the informativeness of subsequent answers. The results indicate that knowledge construction on Q&A sites unfolds as a process of mass collaboration among users.

Peer assessment (PA) is a formative assessment tool that can effectively monitor the development process of knowledge construction. In comment-based PA, comments contain the evidence of how the assessors construct knowledge to conduct professional assessments, which initiates a research perspective to explore the dynamic knowledge construction of the assessors. Quantitative ethnography is both a method for the quantitative analysis of qualitative data and a technique for the network modelling of professional competencies, providing a new way of thinking about the analysis and evaluation of knowledge construction processes. In this paper, quantitative ethnography was used to mine the comments generated from comment-based PA activities to reveal the characteristics of student teachers' knowledge construction and the developmental trajectories of knowledge structure at different learning stages. The experimental results show that the student teachers' knowledge structures and knowledge levels evolve in the PA environment, and the cognitive network gradually tends to become more complex and balanced. The student teachers showed stage and gender differences in the level of knowledge progression during the learning process. The second PA was a turning point in knowledge progression. This work aims to revisit key aspects in the literature that investigates classroom talk-in-interaction, updating them to the recent discussion that investigates epistemic relations in the interactional field. We depart from Garcez's (2006, 2012) analysis of classroom talk-in-interaction to verify to what extent the current investigation of epistemic issues brings up new perspectives for these studies. The discussion also draws on reflections from the analysis of how questions emerge in the interaction of researchers at a technology laboratory (FRANK, 2015). We conclude that paying attention to participants' orientation to territories of knowledge in the interactional field brings into focus relevant issues to the discussion of knowledge asymmetries in the classroom and raises interest in searching for descriptions of nontraditional epistemic organizations in the classroom. The aim of this paper is to show empirically, albeit in an indirect manner, some aspects related to language development and knowledge construction, in the frame of the relations between thought and language proposed by contemporary philosophy and by systemic functional linguistics (SFL). To do this, we compare two versions of the same two texts, produced by university students as part of an explicit genre-based learning process, and argue for an evolution of their cognition. Different stances of contemporary philosophy, socio-historic psychology and cognitive studies are revised as part of the conceptual framework, along with the language-based pedagogy proposed within systemic-functional linguistics. Based on this theoretical revision, two teaching-learning experiences informed by this genre-based pedagogy and SFL discourse analysis methodology are presented. These experiences offer some achievements in the direction of the goal of the paper. We propose that students evolve in the construction of knowledge and, hence, in the development of thought, through the development of their writing competences, achieved by the application of genre-based teaching for written discourse. Therefore, based on the experience and the theoretical base proposed, evidence is provided for the hypothesis of cognition of the world as a human faculty constituted by the development of language.

Background: The goal of this research was to determine students' perceived self-efficacy in science classes through involving students in expanding disciplinary core idea (DCI) and interdisciplinary core idea (ICI) maps, as a method to visualize knowledge (utilizing mind mapping and concept mapping) to support students to integrate interdisciplinary learning. The research involved (a) creating (by science educators) eight curriculum-related, disciplinary core idea maps and two interdisciplinary core idea maps; (b) teachers guiding students in an experimental group, to make interdisciplinary connections so as to expand DCI and ICI maps in an intervention lasting a year and a half from grade 10 to 11; (c) providing feedback on students' developed DCI and ICI maps; (d) administering questionnaires seeking students' perceptions about their self-efficacy towards core ideas, both before and after the intervention and (e) interviewing science teachers (5) and selected students (25), after the intervention, about their perceptions towards the use and outcomes of their DCI and ICI maps. Besides the experimental group, a control group (no intervention) was involved. Results: Outcomes showed that the intervention (guiding students in creating disciplinary and interdisciplinary core idea maps to visualize their learning) supported students significantly in their perceived self-efficacy in the fields of Life Science and Earth Science, plus in the use of Models and Systems. In Physics and Chemistry, the students' perceived self-efficacy was not statistically significantly positive after the conducted intervention. This stemmed from disciplinary core ideas, related to Physics and Chemistry, being more abstract, with students making fewer connections and integrating less new knowledge into the related DCI and ICI maps. In the interviews, both teachers and students stated that the intervention (including expansion of DCI and ICI maps) supported students' science learning. Conclusions: Creating and expanding disciplinary and interdisciplinary core ideas more clearly indicates students' learning, through their ability to make meaningful connections, enabling students to raise their self-efficacy in preparing for their future. The results from this research demonstrate that students' perceived self-efficacy can occur through knowledge visualization by expanding both DCI and ICI maps enabling the making of greater interdisciplinary connections. This research is motivated by the large number of elementary school classrooms that do not offer quality science experiences to students so that it has an impact on students' low understanding of the science concept. The RADEC (Read-Answer-Discuss-Explain And Create) learning model seems suitable for increasing students' understanding of science concepts. This learning model has scientific stages that encourage the cons-truction of students' knowledge. This study aims to analyze the increased understanding of the concept of electrical phenomena through the application of the RADEC learning model. The study involved twenty-eight grade 5 students in the 2019-2020 academic year. Quasi-experimental method with one-group pretest-postest design was used in this study. To find out the understanding of students' concepts about electrical phenomena, tests were carried out before and after the implementation. This study uses descriptive analysis to analyze data collected before and after implementation. From the results of the analysis, it is known that students' understanding of the concept of electrical phenomena after the implementation of the RADEC learning model is higher than before. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the RADEC learning model can improve students' conceptual understanding of electrical phenomena.

Background: Social annotation (SA) is a genre of learning technology that enables the addition of digital notes to shared texts and affords contextualized peer-to-peer online discussion. A small body of literature examines how SA, as asynchronous online discussion, can contribute to students’ knowledge construction (KC)—or a process whereby learners collaborate through shared socio-cognitive practices. This case study analyzed how SA enabled student participation in seven KC activities, such as interpretation and elaboration. Methods: We analyzed 2,121 annotations written by 59 students in three undergraduate courses at a Canadian University in the first months of 2019. Using a method of open coding and constant comparison, we coded each annotation for evidence of KC activities. Results: Results showed a range of KC activities in students’ SA. Across courses, interpretation was the most common KC activity (40%), followed by elaboration (20%). Annotations that were part of peer-to-peer discussion included all seven types of KC activities, but some activities, such as consensus building, support, and conflict, were almost exclusively found in replies to others. Conclusions: This study suggests that SA is a productive form of online learning through which undergraduate students in multiple disciplinary contexts can interact with peers, make sense of academic content, and construct knowledge by reading and writing together.

The present work aims to construct knowledge systems of different specialties, provide personalized learning approaches for students, improve the teaching effectiveness of teachers and learning interests of students, and help students accurately diagnose their learning problems. First, the existing issues of students' chemistry learning and knowledge systems are analyzed. Then, a personalized learning model is constructed based on the distributed computing method of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the clustering algorithm of deep learning (DL). This model realizes the effective classification of students by the DL algorithm according to the students' learning data and designs diverse customized teaching contents in line with the performance of IoT. Finally, this model's effectiveness is verified through the data analysis of 2019 chemistry students at M University. The research results indicate that 96.67% of students express satisfaction with the learning effect of the personalized learning model, and 100% of learners are satisfied with the various forms of teaching resources offered by this model. Besides, this model's accuracy can reach 85% on the personalized learning platform based on IoT and DL algorithms. Compared with the latest research model, this model has a better performance in achievement prediction and customized recommendation. The test results of the actual effect demonstrate that the personalized learning system has achieved expected outcomes, significantly enhancing students' understanding of knowledge with medium difficulty. In addition, learners are delighted with the model. They believe that the learning resources in the model can meet their learning needs, and they are willing to recommend the course to other learners actively. This model is of significant practical value to promote the development of IoT and DL technology in professional learning. This exploration innovatively stratifies learners' level of understanding and provides personalized learning resources meeting the current cognitive competence of students to enhance learners' knowledge and achieve personalized learning. Widespread use of mobile instant messaging (MIM) both formally by educators and voluntarily by students to support coursework has resulted in increased interest in the academic utility of the technology. However, due to the relative newness of the technology there is a call for more studies on how MIM impacts teaching and learning. To address this need, this case study investigates how MIM mediates online knowledge construction within the context of an economics course project. Online interactions over the course of a 16-week semester were coded and analysed using the Interaction Analysis Model. Analysis of 4,685 online messages revealed evidence of all five phases of knowledge construction: the sharing of information, identification of dissonance, negotiation of meaning, testing, and collective understanding. Both the structure of the course project and the affordances of connectivity, context-free access, and quasi-synchronous communication were found to be key factors in facilitating the knowledge construction process. Findings indicate that MIM may be effective supporting online collaborative learning. Furthermore, specific examples of student interactions offer insights into the complexity of online discussion possible via MIM and the interrelationships between the various phases of online knowledge construction.

With the development of mobile Internet and 5g communication technology, online learning has become an important channel for different people to accumulate knowledge. Autonomous learning often ignores learners' emotional interaction, while online collaborative learning mainly depends on learners' cooperation and communication. Taking the undergraduates of a 211 university in Beijing as the research object, this study compiled a questionnaire on the impact of emotional interaction on learners' knowledge construction under the online collaboration mode, and demonstrated the intermediary role of emotional interaction in learners' online collaborative learning in knowledge construction. The empirical results show that the designed questionnaire is effective α the coefficient is 0.891, greater than 0.8. Therefore, the questionnaire has good reliability. The kmo value is 0.876 and the corresponding p value is 0. Therefore, this questionnaire has good validity. Emotional response and expression significantly promote the establishment of learners' knowledge construction. Online collaboration plays a complete intermediary role in the positive promotion of emotional interaction on learners' knowledge construction. The results of this study are of great reference value to the establishment of an Internet plus based learning environment model based on the interaction and cooperation of web-based learners.
