With the continuous miniaturization and highly integrated development of modern electronics, thermal management materials with high thermal conductivity, good electrical insulating and flexibility are highly desired for the effective heat dissipation to maintain the reliable operations of electronic devices. However, enhancing thermal conductivity generally causes the deterioration of their mechanical properties and electrical insulation. Herein, combining the deformability of Galinstan-based liquid metal (LM) and good film-forming property of bacterial cellulose (BC), a series of thin and flexible boron nitride-based composite (BC/BNNS-LM) films was prepared via a facile vacuum-assisted filtration route. Benefiting from the directional arrangement of BNNS nanosheets, as well as gap-filling and bridging effects of deformable LM droplets, the resultant BC/BNNS-LM ternary nanocomposite film not only presents a high in-plane thermal conductivity of 66.1 W/m·K but also achieves excellent mechanical strength, flexibility and good dielectric property. The growing environmental pollution issues by synthetic textile products demand sustainable natural textile alternatives. This paper aimed at extracting and characterizing a new fiber called Ficus thonningii fiber from Ficus thonningii trees found in Ethiopia to be used as a source of textile fiber for different applications. The study utilized water and chemical extraction with sodium hydroxide methods. Physical, mechanical, and chemical properties such as length, diameter, fineness, tenacity, moisture content, moisture regain, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and ash content were characterized. The results revealed that Ficus thonningii fiber possesses comparable characteristics with jute, sisal, and flax fibers that can be used for different applications. The fiber exhibits tenacity of 39.65 cN, an elongation of 2.60%, a moisture content of 10.78%, and a moisture regain of 11.98% when extracted chemically. While it exhibits a tenacity of 37.83 cN, an elongation of 3.02%, a moisture content of 10.35%, and a moisture regain of 11.02% when extracted using water extraction method. Both extraction methods yield a fiber length of 101.50 mm. The chemical composition of the fiber obtained through water extraction consists of 52.35% cellulose, 19.20% hemicellulose, 17.20% lignin, and 1.20% ash. On the other hand, the chemical extraction method results in a composition of 63.57% cellulose, 16.10% hemicellulose, 12.10% lignin, and 0.83% ash. Carbon fiber (CF) is one of ideal reinforcements to hydroxyapatite (HA) owing to its unique structure, excellent biocompatibility and high mechanical properties. However, the mechanical property of CF reinforced HA (CF/HA) composites cannot be effectively improved due to the mismatch in surface properties and thermal expansion coefficients between CF and HA. In order to solve the problems, nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) coating with different thickness was fabricated on the CF surface. The effect of the coating thickness on mechanical property of nHA-coated CF/HA composites was studied by finite element analysis. The CF with proper nHA coating thickness was subsequently used to reinforce HA. The compressive strength of nHA-coated CF/HA composites was approximately 97.3 % and 164.6 % higher than those of the uncoated CF/HA composites and pure HA ceramics, respectively. The interface properties and crack propagation were analyzed by cohesive element in the finite element analysis. The toughening mechanism of the composites included interfacial debonding, crack deflection, crack branching, and crack bridging. The mechanical properties of nHA-coated CF/HA composites were enhanced due to the strong interfacial bonding strength and reducing cracking in HA matrix. The prepared nHA-coated CF/HA composites satisfy the requirement of the mechanical properties of human load-bearing bone. It can be used to prepare cages, plates, screws, pins and other compact bone substitute parts in bone grafting. The study provided a method for construction of nHA-coated CF/HA composites with the designed properties by adjusting the nHA coating on the fiber and can be used to design other fibers reinforced ceramic matrix composites. A coral-like network carbon aerogel was synthesized by introducing acid-modified carbon nanofibers (a-CNF) into phenolic (PR) aerogel through chemical grafting, followed by high-temperature carbonization. The bonding interaction between a-CNF and PR was analyzed by FT-IR spectroscopy. The microstructure of a-CNF/PR composite aerogel (a-CNF/PRA) was studied by SEM and pore structure analysis. The results showed that introducing 5 wt% of a-CNF was most favorable for forming a porous network of a-CNF/PRA. SEM photographs and pore structure analysis indicated that a-CNF/C composite aerogel (a-CNF/CA) developed a stable porous skeletal structure during carbonization. TEM images revealed that the complete porous skeleton consisted of a-CNF encapsulated by carbon layers. The carbonization shrinkage of a-CNF/CA was only 26.53% due to the presence of a-CNF as the skeleton support. Compared to carbon aerogel, a-CNF/CA exhibited lower density (0.072 g cm−3), thermal conductivity (0.0452 W m−1 K−1), and higher compressive strength (up to 3.26 MPa) up to 3.26 MPa than that of carbon aerogel (1.21 MPa). Waste concrete is a large amount of solid waste produced in the process of urban construction and renewal in China. Its resource utilization is of great significance for saving mineral resources and improving urban environmental quality. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of mechanical grinding time on the particle size distribution and activity of recycled waste concrete powder (RWCP). Combined with unconfined compressive strength, slump, electric flux and chloride ion penetration resistance tests, the effects of RWCP on the mechanical properties, working performance and impermeability of concrete were analyzed, and the phase and microstructure of concrete containing RWCP were analyzed by XRD and SEM. The results showed that the RWCP is mainly composed of quartz, gismondine, C2S, cancrinite and portlandite. The optimum activity of RWCP obtained by ball milling for 45 min was 44.41%. RWCP can improve the fluidity of concrete and shorten the initial setting time of concrete. When the blast furnace slag in the concrete was replaced by the RWCP, the early strength and impermeability of the concrete decreased. When RWCP replaced blast furnace slag by 69.1%, the UCS of the concrete at 1, 3, 7, and 14 d decreased from 9.56, 22.1, 34.1, and 41.2 MPa to 5.9, 14.5, 22.7, and 33.2 MPa, respectively. While RWCP replaced fly ash, the normal strength of concrete increased with the increase in fly ash replacement amount. When RWCP completely replaced FA in concrete, the 28-day strength of the concrete increased from 45.2 MPa to 50.8 MPa. The impermeability results showed that the appropriate substitution of RWCP for fly ash was beneficial to increase the impermeability of concrete while excessive substitution reduced. Directed energy deposition with laser beam (DED-LB) components experience significant residual stress due to rapid heating and cooling cycles. Excessive residual tensile stress can lead to cracking in the deposited sample, resulting in service failure. This study utilized digital image correlation (DIC) and thermal imaging to observe the in situ temporal evolution of strain and temperature gradients across all layers of a deposited 316 L stainless steel thin wall during DED-LB. Both continuous-wave (CW) and pulsed-wave (PW) laser modes were employed. Additionally, the characteristics of thermal cracks and geometric dislocation density were examined. The results reveal that PW mode generates a lower temperature gradient, which in turn reduces thermal strain. In CW mode, the temperature–stress relationship curve of the additive manufacturing sample enters the "brittleness temperature zone", leading to the formation of numerous hot cracks. In contrast, PW mode samples are almost free of cracks, as the metal avoids crack-sensitive regions during solidification, thereby minimizing hot crack formation. Overall, these factors collectively contribute to reduced residual stress and improved mechanical properties through the adjustment of pulsed-wave laser deposition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) is a novel solid-state additive manufacturing method developed on the principle of stirring friction. Benefits from its solid-phase properties, compared with traditional additive manufacturing based on melting–solidification cycles, AFSD solves the problems of porosity, cracks, and residual stress caused by the melting–solidification process, and has a significant improvement in efficiency. In AFSD, the interaction between feedstocks and high-speed rotating print heads suffers severe plastic deformation at high temperatures below the melting point, ending up in fine, equiaxed recrystallized grains. The above characteristics make components by AFSD show similar mechanical behaviors to the forged ones. This article reviews the development of AFSD technology, elaborates on the basic principles, compares the macroscopic formability and material flow behavior of AFSD processes using different types of feedstocks, summarizes the microstructure and mechanical properties obtained from the AFSD of alloys with different compositions, and finally provides an outlook on the development trends, opportunities, and challenges to the researchers and industrial fields concerning AFSD. Al2O3‐based composite seal with 10 wt% Al powder addition (A10) possesses excellent plastic and mechanical performance under wide temperature range of solid oxide fuel cell. The thickening phenomenon of A10 seal between 250°C–400°C and 600°C–750°C is caused by the thermal expansion of organic additives and the volume expansion when solid–liquid Al react with oxygen to form Al2O3. The thickness change rate reaches the maximum which is about 5% at 300°C and is about 4.46% at 650°C. The Gibbs free energy for reaction between Al and Al2O3 in the temperature range of 523–1 023 K is all less than 0, which is proved by the fact that A10 exhibits excellent self‐expansion and thermodynamic properties in the solid oxide fuel cell operating temperature. A novel CaO–Al 2 O 3 –SiO 2 –Li 2 O (CASL) glass was developed for bonding yttria–stabilized zirconia ceramics (YSZ). The CASL glass possessed a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) that matched with YSZ and exhibited outstanding wettability on the surface of YSZ substrate. During the bonding process, mutual dissolution and diffusion between YSZ and CASL glass took place, which ensured good interface bonding. Furthermore, the rapid cooling speed led to a completely amorphous seam, which allowed the CTE of the seam to correspond with that of the original glass. The optimal flexural strength of YSZ/YSZ joints could reach more than 90 % of that of the YSZ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Polymer-derived SiBCN ceramic aerogels have attracted extensive attention in recent years due to the excellent electromagnetic wave absorption and thermal insulation properties. With these merits, SiBCN aerogels are promising for the application of high-speed vehicles requiring thermal and electromagnetic shielding. However, the brittleness and poor mechanical property of SiBCN aerogel seriously hinder its practical applications. In this paper, SiBCN/SiBCN nf composite ceramic aerogels with enhanced mechanical property were prepared by combining electrospinning technique with simultaneous pyrolysis process of polyborosilane (PBS) fibers and precursor aerogels. The effect of varying fiber content on the density, mechanical property, thermal insulation as well as microwave absorption performance of the composite aerogel was investigated. In addition, the underlying toughness mechanism of the SiBCN/SiBCN nf composite ceramic aerogel was elucidated. The compressive strength of the SiBCN/SiBCN nf composite aerogel increased from 0.29 MPa to 1.62 MPa. Importantly, while the mechanical strength of the composite aerogel increased by about 5.5 times, SiBCN/SiBCN nf aerogel still exhibits low density of 0.105 g/cm³, low thermal conductivity of 0.048 W/mK and a minimum reflection loss (RL min) of −20 dB. Owing to the integration of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption and thermal insulation properties, SiBCN/SiBCN nf aerogels pave the way for the construction of thermal and electromagnetic shielding material for high-speed vehicles. An enhanced Ni50A composite coating was formed on the AISI 1045 steel surface using Ti, B 4 C, and Ni50A powders. The work meticulously examined the effects of various process parameters, including laser power (800, 1200, and 1600 W) and scanning speed (4, 6, and 8 mm/s), as well as different Ti/B 4 C powder ratios (2:1, 3:1, and 4:1, mol.%) on the defect, hardness, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance of the coating. The microstructure of the coating showed that TiB 2 and TiC synthesized in situ were the key phases for coating enhancement, and there were a variety of solid solutions (FeNi 3 and Cr 2 Ni 3). TiB 2 particles showed dark gray hexagons and long rectangular blocks. The TiC particles mainly appeared in light gray dendritic shapes, occasionally petal-shaped and equiaxial forms, and grew around TiB 2. The research results showed that increased laser power and the Ti/B 4 C ratio decreased coating hardness and wear resistance. When the scanning speed increased, the hardness and wear resistance of the coating were significantly improved. The main wear mechanisms of the TiB 2 –TiC ceramic phase coating were oxidative wear and abrasive particle wear. Besides, the higher laser power and Ti/B 4 C ratio reduced the defect rate of the coating and enhanced the corrosion resistance. However, as the scanning speed increased, the defect rate increased, which decreased the corrosion resistance of the coating. The comprehensive performance evaluation showed that under the conditions of the laser power of 1200 W, a scanning speed of 8 mm/s, and a Ti/B 4 C ratio of 4:1, the coating exhibited optimal performance (dilution rate = 10.928 ± 0.090 %, defect rate = 8.657 ± 0.128 %, hardness = 63.300 ± 1.159 HRC, wear volume = 0.0149 ± 0.000100 mm3, Ecorr = − 0.565 ± 0.001 V, Icorr = 1.058 E − 06 ± 1.528 E − 09 A ⋅ c m 2). The scotch yoke inerter (SYI) is a new geometrically nonlinear vibration isolator with a smaller maximum transmissibility than linear inerter systems. The influence of internal friction and the damping effect on the response of the SYI system for seismic isolation can be significant and needs to be studied. In this study, a small-scale SYI is designed and tested, and an accurate model of SYI is developed for describing its dynamic behavior. Then, the motion equation of the coupled structure-SYI system is established, and several dynamic analyses are studied, including the amplitude-frequency response, the critical excitation amplitude, the backbone curve, the peak response, the starting frequency, and the linearization design, and many fitting expressions for engineering applications are proposed. Finally, the vibration isolation performance of SYI is investigated when friction and damping effects are considered or not, using a single-degree-of-freedom system and a building structure as examples. For harmonic excitations, the maximum transmissibility of the SYI system is superior to that of the linear inerter system, and its advantage becomes more obvious as the excitation amplitude increases. Its seismic isolation effect is slightly better than that of a linear inerter for seismic excitations, where the SYI considering friction and damping effects is better. Practical Applications: A scotch yoke inerter is a geometrically nonlinear inerter that is simple to construct, easy to implement, and has the advantage of variable inertance. The variation of inertance is reflected in two aspects: first, its nominal inertance can be changed by adjusting the location of the pin; second, its dynamic inertance is related to its deformation, which can provide greater negative stiffness effects for larger external excitations. The precise and simplified output force model of the scotch yoke inerter is provided, which can be applied to the calculation and verification of the output force in the design of scotch yoke inerters. Fitting expressions for the critical excitation amplitude, starting frequency, and linearization design are proposed, which can provide a theoretical basis for the application of scotch yoke inerters in base-isolated structures. Compared with traditional linear inerters, scotch yoke inerters have a better isolation control effect, and this control effect can be further improved by making reasonable use of the internal friction and the damping in SYI. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) concrete is a new typical composite concrete, but its material toughness and hydrophilicity are poor, leading to low strength and poor toughness. To solve this critical issue, this study used an interactive method of experimentation and simulation to systematically study the mechanism of how the synergistic strengthening of styrene–butadiene latex (SBL) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibers improves the performance of EPS concrete from the macro, micro, and nano multiscale systems. Macromechanical tests showed that the mechanical properties of EPS concrete are obviously improved by adding PVA and SBL. PVA fiber can reduce the compressive strength of EPS concrete but increase the flexural strength. The addition of SBL has a positive effect on the anticompression and flexural properties. Observation and analysis of microexperiments using electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and infrared spectroscopy showed that the addition of SBL improved the weak interface zone, increased the hydration crystallinity of unhydrated cement products, and formed a more abundant cement-based gel to fill weak cement pores, resulting in a more uniform and stable internal structure. At nano scale, the molecular dynamics interface models of EPS/calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H), EPS/SBL/C-S-H, PVA/C-S-H, and PVA/SBL/C-S-H were established and simulated and analyzed at the nanoscale. The results showed that the addition of SBL played a crucial role in connecting organic polymers with inorganic silicates in a "bridge" form. It formed numerous hydrogen bonds and ionic bonds with EPS, PVA molecular chains, and C-S-H, effectively stabilizing the crystalline layer structure of hydrated calcium silicate and compensating for the weak hydrophilicity of EPS particles, making the EPS/C-S-H and PVA/C-S-H systems more tightly stable. Practical Applications: Expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam concrete, with its advantages of ultralightweight, easy construction, and environmental friendliness, has been widely used in the construction industry. It finds applications in load-bearing precast concrete components, thermal insulation boards, cushioning or structural insulation boards, composite floors, pavement substrates, building envelope structures, and offshore floating structures, among others. These structures possess high strength, excellent insulation performance, high fire resistance, good water repellency, affordability, and strong sound absorption and noise reduction capabilities. However, the hydrophobic nature and porosity of EPS material result in uneven stratification and segregation during the preparation of EPS particles, as well as the existence of numerous weak interface transition zones between EPS and cement-based materials. In order to further expand its prospects in engineering applications and meet the requirements of modern engineering, it is necessary to enhance the workability and mechanical performance of EPS concrete. This study combines experiments and simulations to investigate the mechanisms and methods for reinforcing EPS concrete from a multiscale and multiangle perspective, providing references for the preparation of more stable and high-performance EPS concrete. Iron–selenium (Fe–Se) alloys have potential as attractive biodegradable bone–implant materials, given the antitumor properties of Se in cancer prevention and therapy. However, the fabrication of Fe–Se alloys is challenging due to the volatility of elemental Se and the significantly different melting points of Se and Fe. In this study, we successfully fabricated Fe–xSe (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1 wt.%) alloys using suction casting, with FeSe compounds as the Se source. The microstructures, tensile properties, corrosion behavior, biocompatibility, antibacterial ability, and antitumor properties of the Fe–Se alloys were evaluated. The microstructures of the Fe–Se alloys were composed of α–Fe and FeSe phases. Among the Fe–Se alloys, Fe–0.6Se showed the best combination of tensile properties, with a yield strength of 1096.5 ± 7.2 MPa, an ultimate tensile strength of 1271.6 ± 6.3 MPa, and a fracture strain of 15.6 ± 3.3 %, and a degradation rate of 56.9 ± 0.4 μm/year. Moreover, the Fe–0.6Se alloy showed superb antibacterial ability against S. aureus , antitumor activity against 143B osteosarcoma cells, and osteogenicity and biocompatibility toward pre–osteoblast MC3T3–E1 cells. In summary, adding 0.2–1.0 wt.% Se to Fe does not affect the growth of healthy cells but effectively inhibits the growth and reproduction of tumor cells, and the Fe–0.6Se alloy is promising for orthopedic applications owing to its unique combination of mechanical and biofunctional properties. The structures and properties of the composite films formed by soy protein isolate (SPI) and xanthan gum (XG) with different other matrices were investigated. The composite films were prepared with SPI and XG by adding sodium alginate (SA), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), gelatin (GEL), pectin (PEC) and agar (Agar), respectively. The thickness, mechanical properties, oxygen permeability and opacity of the composite films were measured, and their structures were characterized. The results showed that the thicknesses of composite films with 1.5 g of different other matrices were significantly higher (P<0.05) than the film of SPI/XG, and the maximum tensile strength was 5.90±0.32 MPa for SPI/XG- Agar film (P<0.05), the oxygen permeabilities of them were significantly reduced (P<0.05), and the lowest opacity was 0.45±0.09 Abs600/mm for SPI/XG-Agar film (P<0.05). The photograph of SEM showed that the surface of SPI/XG-Agar composite film was flat, smooth and free of particles, while the other composite films were with particles and folds on the surface. The infrared spectroscopy analysis showed that there was good compatibility between all the matrices. High temperature and high strain rate rolling of Mg-1.0 wt.% Al alloy at 20, 50, and 80% rolling reduction were used to investigate the effect of rolling reduction on the microstructure, mechanical, and damping properties of Mg-1.0 wt.% Al alloy. The average grain size of Mg-1.0 wt.% Al sheet gradually decreases, and the DRX volume fraction, dislocation density, and texture strength gradually increase with the increase of rolling reduction. At 80% rolling reduction, the average grain size is 8.8 μm, and the ultimate tensile strength, tensile yield strength, and elongation of Mg-1.0 wt.% Al sheet gradually increase. The finest room temperature damping properties are shown by plates with a 50% reduction in mean dislocation density and grain size, where the damping value Q−1 for ε0.1 is 0.060. The damping properties in the damping capacity versus temperature curves grow with increasing reduction at a certain frequency. The microstructure and mechanical properties of steel corrosion products in marine environment are key parameters for developing the concrete corrosion-induced model. In this study, steel corrosion products from steel plates, concrete specimens with 10 mm and 20 mm covers, and cracked beams in Zhejiang province were sampled and analyzed. Initially, the microstructure of the steel corrosion products were determined by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS). Subsequently, the mechanical properties of steel corrosion products including nanoindentation elastic modulus, hardness and instantaneous elastic modulus were measured by nanoindentation and consolidation experiments. For the reaction-formed graphite/SiC composites, the presence of cracks and poor mechanical properties seriously affect their reliability as wear resistant or sealing materials. In this work, a porous carbon preform was pressure formed first by carbon-composite-powder (PFC@G) and carbon black, impregnated with resin and carbonized subsequently, which can heal the micro-cracks, increased the strength of porous carbon preforms and finally reduce the reactivity of liquid Si and carbon during the reaction forming process. The results show that the modified porous carbon preform has a 4.8 % reduction in porosity and a 3.98 times increase in compressive strength. After reactive melt infiltration, the prepared graphite/SiC composites had a compact and isotropic structure and obtained the highest carbon content of 66.18 vol%. In addition, the coupling effect of the PFC@G size on the carbon content and mechanical properties of composites was studied. With the decreasing of the PFC@G size, the mechanical properties of the composites increased and the carbon content decreased. Thermal shock resistance and mechanical reliability of aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramic substrates are essential in electronic device modules. In this study, the thermal shock behavior of AlN doped with aluminum - yttrium oxide (Al - Y 2 O 3) was explored. The results indicate that adding Al to AlN ceramics increases its flexural strength, thermal conductivity, and thermal expansion coefficient. The microcracks caused by thermal mismatch between the AlN matrix and the secondary phases relieved internal stress, thereby improving thermal shock resistance of AlN ceramics. Furthermore, the addition of Al isolates and homogenizes the secondary phases, resulting in a more uniform microstructure and strengthened grain boundaries, which enhance the flexural strength, Weibull modulus, and thermal shock resistance. After introducing 0.5 wt% Al, the Weibull modulus of AlN ceramics increased by 73.37 %, and their critical thermal shock temperature difference exceeded 800 °C, with a maximum residual strength of 488.01 ± 48.26 MPa at 600 °C. Based on the advantages of triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) porous structures, extensive research on NiTi shape memory alloy TPMS scaffolds has been conducted. However, the current reports about TPMS porous structures highly rely on the implicit equation, which limited the design flexibility. In this work, novel shell-based TPMS structures were designed and fabricated by laser powder bed fusion. The comparisons of manufacturability, mechanical properties, and shape recovery responses between traditional solid-based and novel shell-based TPMS structures were evaluated. Results indicated that the shell-based TPMS porous structures possessed larger Young's moduli and higher compressive strengths. Specifically, Diamond shell structure possessed the highest Young's moduli of 605.8±24.5 MPa, while Gyroid shell structure possessed the highest compressive strength of 43.90±3.32 MPa. In addition, because of the larger specific surface area, higher critical stress to induce martensite transformation, and lower austenite finish temperature, the Diamond shell porous structure exhibited much higher shape recovery performance (only 0.1% residual strain left at pre-strains of 6%) than other porous structures. These results substantially uncover the effects of structural topology on the mechanical properties and shape recovery responses of NiTi shape memory alloy scaffolds, and confirm the effectiveness of this novel structural design method. The dispersion of silica in rubber systems and its interaction with rubber are two key factors in the preparation of rubber composites with excellent properties. In view of this, silica modified with terminal isocyanate-based polybutadiene liquid rubber (ITPB) is used to improve the dispersion effect of silica in rubber and enhance its interaction with the rubber matrix to improve the rubber's performance. The impact of different modification conditions on the dispersion of silica and the properties of modified silica-filled rubber composites were studied by changing the amount of ITPB and the modification method of silica, including blending and chemical grafting. The experimental results show that ITPB is successfully grafted onto silica, and the use of modified silica improves the cross-linking density of rubber, promotes the rate of rubber vulcanization, and overcomes the shortcomings of the delayed vulcanization of silica itself. When the ratio of ITPB liquid rubber to silica equals 1:20, the comprehensive performance of rubber is the best, the ITPB-modified silica has a better dispersion effect in rubber, and the rolling resistance is slightly improved, with tensile strength reaching 12.6 MPa. Cu alloys have been widely used in the manufacture of liners because of their high density, good plasticity, and excellent thermal conductivity. In order to achieve excellent jet stability and penetration performance, it is necessary to further improve the mechanical properties of Cu-based liners. Nevertheless, the simultaneous enhancement of strength and ductility of the Cu alloys remains a huge challenge due to the strength–ductility trade-off phenomenon of metals/alloys. In this study, the microstructure evolution of rare earth Nd-modified Cu alloy and its effect on mechanical properties were investigated using OM, SEM, EBSD, and TEM techniques. The results show that the ultimate tensile strength (218 MPa) and elongation (50.7%) of sample 1 without Nd are the lowest. With increasing Nd content; the tensile strength and elongation of the samples increase; and the mechanical properties of sample 4 are the best, with a tensile strength of 278.6 MPa and elongation of 65.2%. In addition, with the increase in Nd content, not only is the grain size of the Cu-Nd alloy refined, but also the strength and plasticity are improved so that the strength–ductility trade-off phenomenon is improved. The strength improvement is mainly attributed to grain refinement strengthening, dispersion strengthening, and strain hardening. To investigate the mechanical properties and microstructure evolution of P92 steel during long-term service, the operated P92 main steam pipes from the first ultra-supercritical units in China were sectioned into samples representing various service durations and stresses (0# (as-received state, 1# (82,000 h, 67.3 MPa), 2# (85,000 h, 78.0 MPa), and 3# (100,000 h, 80.3 MPa)). Thereafter, a comprehensive assessment of their mechanical properties, including tensile strength, impact, hardness, and creep resistance, as well as a detailed microstructure analysis, was carried out. The effect of stress on the aging of material properties during operation is discussed. The results show that the circumferential stress caused by the increase in the internal steam pressure can significantly promote the creep life consumption of P92 steel, resulting in the degradation of mechanical properties and the expedited aging of the microstructure. The Rp0.2 and Rm of the P92 main steam pipe at room temperature and 605 °C decreased with the service time increase, reflecting the influence of stress in operation, which is expected to be used for the residual life evaluation of P92 steel. The relationship between the impact absorption energy (FATT50), Brinell hardness, and the operating time of P92 operating pipes is non-monotonic, indicating that these parameters are not sensitive indicators of material aging due to stress. The evaluation of performance degradation in P92 operating pipes due to stress-induced aging is not reliably discernible through optical metallography alone. Wire rope isolator (WRI) devices are widely used in vibration reduction industrial equipment, and stiffness is the key parameter that determines isolation effectiveness. WRI devices show slight nonlinearity under small loads, and the manufacturers generally only provide the initial parameters. To investigate the mechanical behavior changes in the WRI devices under repeated loads, five types of WRI specimens were tested under various amplitudes, loading speeds, and preloads. The test results of large symmetrical compression and tension loads showed that the WRI devices demonstrated stable hysteresis curves under repeated loads, while the hysteresis curves were independent of the loading speed. The test results of small cyclic loads with large preloads show that the stiffness of the WRI specimen follows the logarithmic law, with the cycle number under various loading conditions. Particularly, the stiffness of the specimen increases by about 10–30% after 50 cycles. The initial stiffness Ka decreases linearly with the preloads, while the decrease is quadratic in relation to the cyclic load. The hardening coefficient Ca shows a positive correlation with the loading capacity of the WRI devices, while it shows a negative correlation with the preload and cyclic load amplitudes. [Display omitted] Enhancing the flame retardancy of epoxy (EP) resins typically entailed a trade-off with other physical properties. Herein, hyperbranched poly(amidoamine) (HPAA) and phytic acid (PA) were used to functionalize graphene oxide (GO) via electrostatic self-assembly in water to prepare a phosphorus-nitrogen functionalized graphene oxide nanosheet (PN-GOs), which could be utilized as high efficient flame-retardant additive of epoxy resin without sacrificing other properties. The PN-GOs demonstrated improved dispersion and compatibility within the EP matrix, which resulted in significant concurrent enhancements in both the mechanical performance and flame-retardant properties of the PN-GOs/EP nanocomposites over virgin EP. Notably, the incorporation of just 1.0 wt% PN-GOs yielded a 20.4, 6.4 and 42.7 % increases in flexural strength, flexural modulus and impact strength for the PN-GOs/EP nanocomposites, respectively. Furthermore, simultaneous reductions were achieved in the peak heat release rate (pHRR) by 60.0 %, total smoke production (TSP) by 43.0 %, peak CO production rate (pCOP) by 57.9 %, and peak CO 2 production rate (pCO 2 P) by 63.9 %. In this paper, we propose an effective method for doping WC into Ta-Hf-C ceramics to significantly enhance their densification and mechanical properties. An increasing WC doping amount from 0 to 20 at.%, enhances the densification of Ta-Hf-C ceramics from 92.4 % to 99.1 %. This is mainly due to the fact that the doping of WC effectively removes the harmful oxygen impurities from the ceramics, thereby increasing their sintering activity. Furthermore, the doping of WC plays an active role in the mechanical properties of the ceramics. The Ta-Hf-C doped with 15 at.% WC has the highest value of 36.41 GPa for nano-hardness due to the solid solution strengthening mechanism, while the highest Vickers hardness (38.75 GPa) and fracture toughness (3.76 MPa m1/2) appear in Ta-Hf-C doped with 20 at.% WC. The introduction of pores to improve the toughness of alumina ceramics is considered to be a feasible strategy by using the inhibitory effect of pores on crack propagation. However, the mechanical properties of alumina ceramics are often reduced due to the uncontrollable pore shape. In this work, the nano-scale C@Al 2 O 3 core-shell particles were fabricated and introduced into the alumina powder treated by dielectric barrier discharge plasma-assisted milling, and the alumina ceramics with closed pores of regular shape (approximate sphere) and small size (<1 μm) were prepared. Since the approximate spherical pore structure and small pore size eliminate the adverse effects of stress concentration, and the deflection and pinning effect of closed pores on cracks, the flexural strength and fracture toughness of the prepared samples were improved, increasing by 12.6 % and 18.8 % respectively. Optimizing the molten pool overlap by adjusting the volumetric energy density can improve mechanical properties of the selective laser melting AISI 316L stainless steel (SLM AISI 316L SS) and expand its application prospects in various aspects. The selective laser melting (SLM) technology with different volumetric energy density was used to prepare AISI 316L SS specimens. When the volumetric energy density and molten pool overlap rate reach 138.89 J/mm3 and 69.5%, respectively, ultimate tensile strength, dynamic compressive strength and impact energy of the SLM AISI 316L SS reach 495.81,1195.78 MPa and 125.33 MJ/m3. Hardness value of the cellular structures can reach 2.89 GPa. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) were used to characterize molten pools of the SLM AISI 316L SS. Cellular structure size of the overlapping area is larger than that of the non-overlapping area. Cellular structure presents a three-dimensional tubular structure. Main elements Fe, Cr, Ni and Mo of the SLM AISI 316L SS are evenly distributed without significant segregation or agglomeration. Molten pool overlaps affect size of the columnar grain and cellular structure. It is found that molten pool overlap plays a key role in the strengthening of the SLM AISI 316L SS. Microextrusion‐based additive manufacturing of zirconia‐based bioceramics is capable of fabricating design‐specific architectures with high mechanical strength properties and relative density. We developed a novel organic residue‐free binder system for zirconia paste printing (ZP2) with the shear‐thinning properties apropos to microextrusion‐based 3D printing. Based on thermogravimetric analysis, debinding protocol was established followed by high‐temperature heat treatment under four sintering conditions. Quantitative linear shrinkage (32.3%–42.7% ranging from in‐plane to vertical direction), density (83.3%–87.5%), and surface roughness (7.7–13.8 µm from the parallel to the perpendicular to the infill direction) as a factor of sintering conditions (1400°C–1500°C for 3–4 h) were analyzed. Whereas qualitative phase assemblage demonstrated “sintering condition independent” phase stability; grain growth and reduction in porosity were observed in the microstructure with increment in sintering temperature and hold time. Interestingly, at higher temperature and hold time, the compressive (46–72.4 MPa) and tensile strength (16.2–23.1 MPa) properties experienced a trade‐off between grain growth and reduction in porosity. The ZP2 scaffolds sintered at lower temperature and hold time qualified for the bone scaffold applications having interconnected porosities, biologically relevant surface roughness, and human bone mimicking mechanical properties. With a unique finite element analysis recipe, the mechanical behavior of the “life‐like” reconstructed computer aided design (CAD) geometries identical to real 3D‐printed‐sintered ZP2 scaffolds was quantitatively predicted. A 12-mm caliber gas gun was used to launch a high-strength steel cylindrical projectile to impact a polyurea-coated B4C ceramic target plate to investigate the effects of the polyurea coating position and the thickness of the polyurea coating on the protective ability of the ceramic composite target plate, reveal the penetration resistance mechanism of the polyurea-coated B4C ceramic plate and protection mechanism of polyurea coating. The result showed that the ceramic cone top diameter of the composite target plate coated with polyurea on the front side was 52.4–60.5% lower than that of the uncoated ceramic target plate, and the ceramic cone bottom diameter was 0.2–4% lower than that of the uncoated ceramic target plate. For the same area density, the ceramic target plate coated with polyurea on both sides had the largest percentage of mass remaining and the smallest mass of dislodged ceramic fragments. In addition, composite target plates coated with polyurea on the back side and both sides significantly reduced the head velocity of the post-target debris cloud. The polyurea coating on the front of the target plate utilizes the strain rate effect to dissipate the kinetic energy of the projectile and inhibit the spallation of ceramic fragments toward the front of the target plate. The polyurea coating on the back of the target plate utilizes bulge deformation to dissipate the kinetic energy of the projectile and intercepts the scattering of the post-target debris cloud. Silk fibroins have excellent mechanical properties due to their special structure. A variety of diamino chain extenders containing Gly-Ala-Gly-Ala (GAGA) sequence peptides and a series of modified polyurethanes were prepared. The addition of the tetrapeptide-like structure to the backbone improved the ratio of hydrogen bonds of the modified polyurethane, which resulted in a significant increase in mechanical properties with the strain at break increasing from 29. 3 to 50. 9 MPa. Besides, the shape memory performance of modified polyurethane was also improved with the deformation retention increasing from 74. 3% to 100%. Notably, tetrapeptide content positively correlated with the mechanical property and shape memory performance improvements. Recently, a new promising type of marine shale gas reservoir, carbonate-rich shale, has been discovered. But the mechanical properties of this type of shale were still unrevealed and the corresponding reservoir stimulation designwas lack of guidance. Using the deep downhole cores of an exploratory carbonate-rich shale gas well, the physical and mechanical parameters and failure mechanism of the whole reservoir section were acquired and evaluated systematically, by performing XRD, tri-axial compression, Brazilian splitting, and fracture toughness tests. A new model was established to evaluate the reservoir brittleness based on fracture morphology and stress-strain curve. Recommended strategy for reservoir stimulation was discussed. Results showed that (1) Carbonate-rich shale possessed high compressive strength and high Young's modulus, which were improved by 10.74% and 3.37% compared to that of siliceous shale. It featured high tensile strength and fracture toughness, with insignificant anisotropy. (2) With the content of carbonate minerals increasing, the shear failure morphology transformed from sparse and wide brittle fractures to diffusely distributed and subtle plastic cracks. (3) The brittleness index order was: siliceous shale, clay-rich shale, carbonate-rich shale, and limestone. (4) The special properties of carbonate-rich shale were rooted in the inherent feature of carbonate minerals (high strength, high elastic modulus, and cleavage structure), resulting in greater challenge in reservoirs stimulation. Most of the mine roadways in China are located in layered rock mass. To study the mechanical properties of a layered rock mass, the uniaxial compression test was carried out on the layered composite rock mass composed of sand and paraffin. The results showed that the locations of the high‐ and low‐strength rocks were independent of the strength of the layered composite rock. The main failure site was not affected by the combination mode. Failure was mainly concentrated in the low‐strength rock. The strengths of low‐ and high‐strength rocks determined the lower and upper limits of the strength of the layered rock, respectively. When the thickness of the layered high‐strength composite rock was >60%, the layered composite rock strength tended to be high; conversely, layered composite rock strength lowered the rock strength, and with increasing thickness, the layered composite rock strength was significantly enhanced. Beetle femur–tibial joints can bear large loads, and the joint structure plays a crucial role. Differences in living habits will lead to differences in femur–tibial joint structure, resulting in different mechanical properties. Here, we determined the structural characteristics of the femur–tibial joints of three species of beetles with different living habits. The tibia of Scarabaeidae Protaetia brevitarsis and Cetoniidae Torynorrhina fulvopilosa slide through cashew-shaped bumps on both sides of the femur in a guide rail consisting of a ring and a cone bump. The femur–tibial joint of Buprestidae Chrysodema radians is composed of a conical convex tibia and a circular concave femur. A bionic structure design was developed out based on the characteristics of the structure of the femur–tibial joints. Differences in the failure of different joint models were obtained through experiments and finite element analysis. The experimental results show that although the spherical connection model can bear low loads, it can maintain partial integrity of the structure and avoid complete failure. The cuboid connection model shows a higher load-bearing capacity, but its failure mode is irreversible deformation. The uniformity of growth and mechanical properties of grafted seedlings affect the quality of mechanical grafting operations. The growth uniformity of grafted seedlings in a greenhouse will be poor due to the uneven and unstable light and temperature conditions. Plant factories can cultivate grafted seedlings in the most suitable environment by regulating environmental parameters such as light and temperature. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the light conditions on tomato seedlings in plant factory and to develop an optimal cultivation light formula. The effects of light intensity (50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 μmol m−2 s−2) and photoperiod (10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 h a day(h/d)) on the morphological and mechanical properties of tomato seedlings were experimentally investigated. Orthogonal experiments were conducted involving light quality (R:B = 75:25, R:B = 50:50, and R:B = 25:75), light intensity (150 μmol m−2 s−2, 200 μmol m−2 s−2, and 250 μmol m−2 s−2), and photoperiod (14, 16, and 18 h/d) as independent variables to determine the optimal combination. Finally, a comparative grafting experiment was conducted between the seedlings cultivated using the optimal light formula and commercially available seedlings. The result showed that increasing light intensity inhibited hypocotyl length and promoted seedling stem growth, and excessive light intensity decreased seedling mechanical properties. The optimal light intensity for rootstocks is 200 μmol m−2 s−2, and the optimal light intensity for scions is 250 μmol m−2 s−2. Shortening the photoperiod would promote hypocotyl growth and inhibit seedling stem elongation. Different photoperiods had a significant impact on the mechanical properties of tomato seedlings. The most suitable photoperiod for rootstocks was 18 h/d and for scions was 16 h/d. The most suitable light formula was R:B = 50:50, 250 μmol m−2 s−2, 18 h/d. By analyzing the experimental results, the mechanical properties of seedlings grown by the regulated light environment were better than those of commercially available seedlings, and the success rate of mechanical grafting was 7% higher. Overall, in plant factories compared to commercially available tomato seedlings, tomato seedlings cultivated by the regulated light environment were more suitable for mechanical grafting. Context and results: The structure, mechanical, electronic, vibration, and hydrogen bonding properties of a novel high-energy and low-sensitivity 5, 5′-dinitroamino-3, 3′-azo-oxadiazole 4, 7-diaminopyridazino [4, 5-c] furoxan salt have been studied by density functional theory. The calculated vibrational properties show that the low-frequency mode is mainly contributed by the vibration of the -NO2 group, and the high-frequency mode is mainly contributed by the vibration of the -NH2 group and the N7-H3 bond which protonates the cation. In addition, it is analyzed that the first bond to break may be the N-NO2 bond. The calculated hydrogen bond properties indicate that the hydrogen bond between water molecules and cations is N7-H3... O5 (1.563 Å), which is the shortest hydrogen bond among all hydrogen bonds. The presence of this exceptionally short hydrogen bond renders the N7-H3 and H6-O5 bonds resistant to disruption at high frequencies, underscoring the pivotal role of hydrogen bonding in stabilizing the structure of energetic materials. Given the absence of experimental and theoretical data on the electronic, mechanical, and vibrational properties of the material thus far, our calculations offer valuable theoretical insights into the ionic salts of high energy and low sensitivity. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are extensively utilized in the fabrication of high-performance composites due to their exceptional mechanical, electrical, and thermal characteristics. To investigate the mechanical properties of CNTs filled polymers accurately and effectively, a 3D modeling approach that incorporates the microstructural attributes of CNTs was introduced. Initially, a representative volume element model was constructed utilizing the modified nearest neighbor algorithm. During the modeling phase, a corresponding interference judgment method was suggested, taking into account the potential positional relationships among the CNTs. Subsequently, stress–strain curves of the model under various loading conditions were derived through finite element analysis employing the volume averaging technique. To validate the efficacy of the modeling approach, the stress within a CNT/epoxy resin composite with varying volume fractions under different axial strains was computed. The resulting stress–strain curves were in good agreement with experimental data from the existing literature. Hence, the modeling method proposed in this study provides a more precise representation of the random distribution of CNTs in the matrix. Surface carburized steels are extensively utilized in gears due to their exceptional properties. The quality of the carburized layer is crucial in enhancing the contact fatigue and wear resistance of the components. However, the conventional carburizing method takes a long time and induces a carbon emissions problem. In this study, the 18Cr2Ni4WA steel was double tempered (650 °C/4 h) after carburizing at 930 °C and 950 °C. The microstructural evolution, carbide precipitation, and mechanical properties of different carburized layers were analyzed. The results showed that increasing the carburizing temperature can control the microstructure of the carburized layer while reducing the carburizing time by over 60%. The high carbon content improves the strength of the carburized materials at 950 °C, and the inhibition of dislocation motion and grain boundary by the precipitation of more carbides ensures the stability of grain size, maintaining the strength of the materials. The carburized specimens at 950 °C showed an excellent combination of strength and plasticity in different carburized layers due to the variations in solid solution strengthening, dislocation strengthening, precipitation strengthening, and grain boundary strengthening induced by carbon atoms. PHOTH-graphene is a newly predicted 2D carbon material with a low-energy structure. However, its mechanical stability and fracture properties are still elusive. The mechanical stability, elastic, and fracture properties of PHOTH-graphene were investigated using classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations equipped with REBO potential in this study. The influence of orientation and temperature on mechanical properties was evaluated. Specifically, the Young's modulus, toughness, and ultimate stress and strain varied by −26.14%, 36.46%, 29.04%, and 25.12%, respectively, when comparing the armchair direction to the zigzag direction. The percentage reduction in ultimate stress, ultimate strain, and toughness of the material in both directions after a temperature increase of 1000 K (from 200 K to 1200 K) ranged from 56.69% to 91.80%, and the Young's modulus was reduced by 13.63% and 7.25% in both directions, respectively, with Young's modulus showing lower sensitivity. Defects usually weaken the material's strength, but adding random point defects in the range of 3% to 5% significantly increases the ultimate strain of the material. Furthermore, hydrogen atom adsorption induces crack expansion to occur earlier, and the crack tip without hydrogen atom adsorption just began to expand when the strain was 0.135, while the crack tip with hydrogen atom adsorption had already undergone significant expansion. SiC‐based porous ceramic wave‐absorbing materials have attracted much attention due to their excellent properties such as low density, high‐temperature resistance, and oxidation resistance. In this work, the impedance matching of SiC ceramics is improved by introducing Si3N4 wave‐transparent phase, and the dielectric loss capability of SiC ceramics is enhanced by introducing FeSi wave loss phase. To achieve a balance between impedance matching and absorption loss in porous ceramics, different molar contents of Al were introduced into FeSi to tailor electromagnetic parameters. The effects of introducing FeAlxSi1−x on the phase composition, microstructure, dielectric loss, and microwave absorption mechanism of SiC–Si3N4 porous ceramics were systematically investigated. When FeAl0.25Si0.75 is added, the minimum reflection loss of the porous ceramics is as low as −58.02 dB, and the flexural strength is as high as 87.23 MPa. The presence of Al promotes the transformation of the Si3N4 crystal and the generation of Al2O3. The introduction of FeAl0.25Si0.75 into SiC–Si3N4 has constructed "inductor–capacitor–resistance" microcircuit, which enhances polarization loss, conductivity loss, and magnetic loss, and realized the double enhancement of the mechanical and wave‐absorbing properties of porous ceramics. High-performance Si 3 N 4 ceramic aerogel (CA) prepared by employing commercial Si powders containing impurity Fe as raw materials and Fe powders as catalyst through a simply Fe-concerted catalyzed nitridation technology, CS Si 3 N 4 CAs, were synthesized at 1473 K for 5 h, and thoroughly characterized. It exhibited a porosity of 87.7 %, a compressive strength of 3.3 MPa and a specific strength of 8.7 MPa cm3 g−1, along with its outstanding low thermal conductivity (as low as 0.108 W m−1 K−1 at 373 K). Compared with the Si 3 N 4 CA catalysis nitridation of concerted reactions by Fe(NO 3) 3 ·9H 2 O and in-situ catalytic nitridation by impurity Fe in commercial Si, and the specific strength of CS Si 3 N 4 CA was about 14 % and 22 % higher than that of the former, respectively. This demonstrated that it may be more conducive to the preparation of Si 3 N 4 CAs with high performance via catalysis nitridation of concerted reactions by Fe than Fe(NO 3) 3 ·9H 2 O. This work also provides an ideal method for the cost-effectiveness synthesis of high-performance Si 3 N 4 and/or Si 3 N 4 composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The mechanical properties of silicon carbide (SiC) under high-temperature irradiation have been one of the focal issues for its application in nuclear systems, but the relevant mechanisms remain elusive. In this work, two SiC polytypes inducing α- and β-phase were irradiated by 1.35 MeV Si5+ with a fluence of 1.81 × 1016 ions/cm2 at 550 °C and 750 °C, respectively, to investigate the characteristics of irradiation-induced defects and structure and the variation of mechanical properties. Irradiation significantly affected the mechanical properties of both α- and β-SiC. The nanohardness and modulus of α-SiC increased with the increase of irradiation temperature, while for β-SiC they first increased and then decreased significantly. The results of GIXRD and Raman spectra indicated the irradiation-induced defects, lattice deformation, and the changes in the intensity of the Si-C bond region. It was found that the TEM characterization of irradiated SiC samples with numerous point defect clusters, extended defects and a legible defect band. Moreover, the nanohardness and modulus of both SiC types exhibited a critical temperature dependence and were affected by different dominant factors at high temperatures. Repair offers significant time—cost savings and durability by reusing existing parts efficiently. Prior to implementation of repaired parts, it is crucial to clarify mechanical properties and deformation mechanisms to ensure proper performance. In this study, a repair deposition was performed on the groove of wrought stainless steel 316L using the same material powder. The repaired sample exhibited an excellent combination of ductility and strength (T.EL: 58%, YS: 407 MPa, UTS: 673 MPa) compared to the wrought counterpart. With heterogeneity in microstructure, the hetero-deformation-induced strengthening of the repaired sample resulted in a synergy of strength-ductility combinations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lost circulation is one of the important problems that restricts the speed and efficiency of oil and gas drilling and production. In this study, a resin plugging system was successfully developed for lost circulation formation. The resin plugging system showed excellent performance under high temperature and pressure conditions. The experimental results showed that the compressive strength of the resin plugging material can reach 9.23 MPa after curing, which is significantly higher than that of the traditional polymer gel material. The resin material can achieve effective curing in the temperature range of 60 °C to 100 °C, and the curing time decreases with the increase of temperature and only needs 3.46 h at 140 °C. The microstructure results showed that the resin material can form a chain or three-dimensional network structure after curing, which can effectively increase the toughness and strength of the cured plugging layer. Infrared and thermogravimetric analysis further confirmed the thermal stability of the chemical bonds in the material, and the initial decomposition temperature was about 241 °C, indicating that it had good thermal stability at about 300 °C. In addition, the effects of curing temperature, salinity, and drilling fluid pollution on the properties of the resin plugging agent were also investigated. The results showed that curing agent dosage and curing temperature are the key factors affecting curing time, while salinity and drilling fluid pollution affect the curing strength and overall properties of the materials. After adding 20% KCl polysulfonate drilling fluid, the compressive strength of the consolidated body decreased to 4.55 MPa. Fiber-reinforced aerogel composites are widely used for thermal protection. The properties of the fibers play a critical role in determining the structure and properties of the final aerogel composite. However, the effects of the fiber's characteristics on the structure and properties of the aerogel composite have rarely been studied. Herein, we prepared quartz fiber felt-reinforced silica-polybenzoxazine aerogel composite (QF/PBSAs) with different fiber diameters using a simple copolymerization process with the ambient pressure drying method. The reasons for the effects of fiber diameter on the structure and properties of the aerogel composites were investigated. The results showed that the pore structure of the aerogel composites was affected by the fiber diameter, which led to significant changes in the mechanical behavior and thermal insulation performance. At room temperature, pore structure and density were found to be the main factors influencing the thermal conductivity of the composites. At elevated temperatures, the radiative thermal conductivity (λr) plays a dominant role, and reducing the fiber diameter suppressed λr, thus decreasing the thermal conductivity. When the QF/PBSAs were exposed to a 1200 °C butane flame, the PBS aerogel was pyrolyzed, and the pyrolysis gas carried away a large amount of heat and formed a thermal barrier in the interfacial layer, at which time λr and the pyrolysis of the PBS aerogel jointly determined the backside temperature of the composites. Vascular stents have many applications in treating arterial stenosis and other vascular-related diseases. The ideal vascular stent for clinical application should have radial support and axial bending mechanical properties that meet the requirements of vascular deformation coordination. The materials used for vascular stents implanted in the human body should have corresponding biocompatibility to ensure that the stents do not cause coagulation, hemolysis, and other reactions in the blood. This study fabricated four types of vascular stents, including inner hexagon, arrowhead, quadrilateral, and outer hexagonal, using fused filament fabrication technology and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) as materials. By evaluating the effects of edge width and wall thickness on the radial support and axial bending performance, it was found that the inner hexagonal stent exhibited the best radial support and axial bending performance under the same conditions. The design and fabrication of vascular stents based on 3D printing technology have promising application prospects in personalized customized vascular repair therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In order to expand the application range of polymer reinforced concrete (PRC) and explore the effect of polymer on the impact resistance of concrete, the dynamic compression test on PRC with polymer content (by volume) of 0, 4%, 8% and 12% was carried out. The effects of polymer content and strain rate on the mechanical properties of PRC were studied, and relevant micro-mechanism was analyzed by SEM and MIP tests. The results show that the polymer can improve the dynamic mechanical properties of concrete, and the dynamic mechanical properties of PRC with polymer content of 4% is the best. With the increase of polymer content, the peak strain of PRC increases, the dynamic compressive strength of PRC first increases and then decreases, and the fractal dimension of fragments of PRC first decreases and then increases. The impact toughness of PRC is larger than that of plain concrete, and the impact toughness of PRC with polymer content of 4% is the maximum. Polymer can improve the interfacial transition zone of concrete through filling and bridging, and optimize the pore structure of concrete, thus improving the mechanical properties of concrete at high strain rate. To investigate the distortion and damage properties of coal-rock combination (CRC) samples, the individual coal samples and rock samples and CRC were developed by similar materials with equal strength. Then, uniaxial compression (UC) tests and acoustic emission (AE) tests were performed on CRC samples with various rock-coal height ratios and loading rates. The strength, deformation, and AE properties of the CRC samples were analyzed to explore their failure mechanisms. The findings indicated that the individual coal samples and rock samples were mainly damaged by tensile splitting. For CRC samples, shear and tensile coupled failures were the main failure modes. Cracks are first generated from coal part and continue to expand to rock part. The coal-rock height ratio had little impact on the single AE event count peak value but had a certain influence on the cumulative number of AE event count. However, the loading rate had a large effect on the AE characteristics, and the strength and elastic modulus (E) of the CRC samples had linear or nonlinear increasing trend with increasing ratio of rock to coal height and loading rate.
