For those receiving funding from the UK HEFCE-funded Open Educational Resource Programme (2009-2012), the sustainability of project outputs was one of a number of essential goals. Our approach for the hosting and distribution of health and life science open educational resources (OER) was based on the utilisation of the WordPress.org blogging platform and search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques to curate content and widen discovery. This paper outlines the approaches taken and tools used at the time, and reflects upon the effectiveness of web strategies several years post-funding. The paper concludes that using WordPress.org as a platform for sharing and curating OER, and the adoption of a pragmatic approach to SEO, offers cheap and simple ways for small-scale open education projects to be effective and sustainable.

Using recently declassified archival material pertaining to the Chartered Bank of India Australia and China, this article foregrounds quantitative evidence that sheds new light on the history of British banks in Asia. It shows that Hong Kong came to play a critical role in the bank's note issue strategy after the Straits Settlements had moved off the silver standard in 1906. Locally denominated notes issued on mainland China complemented the Hong Kong issue. This paper highlights the Indian initiatives in the field of institutional repositories. It provides an overview of the 15 registered archives of Indian institutions in a range of subject disciplines. The authors believe that institutional repositories will help in the sharing of institutional intellectual output and will increase article citations and the impact factors of Indian journals. Out of 273 universities and institutions of higher learning in India, there are only 15 registered archives. All these archives are registered in the Institutional Archives Registry. Background: During the late nineteenth century, a considerable number of young Punjabi men sought their fortunes in the Australian colonies, working as hawkers and farm labor. While in Australia they experienced marginalization and high levels of racial vilification by the Anglo-Celtic settler community. Aims: To assess the frequency and nature of suicides of Punjabi workers in nineteenth century Australia. Materials and Methods: The paper draws on archival sources and contemporary newspaper reports. Results: A wide range of methods of suicides were observed, with drowning the preferred method. Conclusions: This article is the first to collate the data on the suicides and suicide attempts by young Punjabi men working in an immigration country. Cultural heritage is the symbolic presence that integrates the history, traditions and culture of a country, and while it is an irreplaceable source of pride for that country's people, it also possesses a universal value that can touch all people around the world. There are numerous properties of precious tangible and intangible cultural heritage currently placed at risk. This paper examines the potential for preserving Indian’s cultural heritage resources in a digital world and making it globally accessible. Background: In the early 20th century, psychosurgery had gained worldwide popularity for treating mentally ill persons, especially in western countries. We attempt to chronicle its journey in the Mysore Government Mental Hospital (MGMH), now the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru. Methods: Archived case records and registers of patients admitted from 1939 to 1947 were reviewed to identify those who had undergone psychosurgery. Case records of the identified patients were assessed for clinical information, including the details of psychosurgery. Results: Among the patients, 107 had undergone psychosurgery, primarily leucotomy. Schizophrenia (51.5%) was the most common diagnosis in them, and 33.7% of all patients were reported to have improved. Yet, inconsistencies were found about the presence and degree of improvement. Possible side effects were not consistently documented. Conclusion: Psychosurgery was adopted at the MGMH very soon following its introduction in the western world. This has changed user behaviour in accessing information. The contested historiography of the 1857 rebellion and its importance in shaping the Indian nationalist imagination make it an excellent entry point into an investigation of nationalist pasts and their archival bases. This paper examines a concatenation of influential narratives of different genres that have become critical sources for a history of the rebel leader Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and for configuring her as an icon of heroic Indian womanhood. It places each of these sources, ranging from late nineteenth-century Marathi texts to mid-twentieth-century Hindi narratives, within their specific spatio- temporal setting and highlights the contradictory regional projects underlying apparently smooth nationalist narratives. Through a close examination of the making of the Lakshmibai archive, the author argues that a consideration of the editorial and textual practices that went into the making of reliable and usable archives for a modern historiography is critical to the unpacking of nationalist historiographies. The present study on the use of both external and internal grey literature by CSIR researchers shows that technical reports are most used followed by doctoral theses. It was found that engineering and physical sciences laboratories use more internal grey literature than chemical and biological sciences laboratories. These and other findings help is framing content development policy for technical grey literature, framing policies for internal grey literature archiving, designing digital repository framework to archive internally generated grey literature and improve access and devise ways to enhance their visibility and use. This article emphasizes the need to address the converging as well as diverging factors of Libraries, Archives and Museums (LAMs) for expanding the scope of proposed convergence beyond integrated access. While thinking about this convergence we must protect the role, focus, scope and identities of these disciplines rather than treating them as the same thing referred to by different terminologies. Such a mixed approach has been manifested in many generalized software solutions which loosely claim to manage archives, museums, libraries and repositories together. The courses on museology, archives, library and information science offered in India and elsewhere are found to be at different phases of evolution in terms of integration of digital preservation methods.
