This study presents the design and implementation of a low-speed intrusion experiment under microgravity, with a strong motivation to support the pre-research of the Chinese asteroid exploration mission. In the experiment apparatus, we reconstructed an effective gravity of 10 - 2 g in a free-falling capsule in the drop tower. The simulant of regolith particles is processed using natural basalt and sorted using layered screens. The irregular shapes of the particles are retained to mimic the realistic regolith. A detailed description of the experimental system components and the full-cycle procedure is first presented, which gives 3.6 s of microgravity time for each trial. Repeatable controlled experiments are performed to characterize the dynamical responses of the simulant particles under centimeter-per second intrusion. The results reveal diverse responses that depend on different variables, and the mechanism of different responses is discussed based on theories of granular mechanics. This experimental study is expected to improve our understanding of the contact mechanics of regolith material, which will facilitate the operation design of future asteroid missions. Background: Sleep deprivation (SD) is commonplace in modern society and there are large individual differences in the vulnerability to SD. We aim to identify the structural network differences based on diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) that contribute to the individual different vulnerability to SD. Methods: The number of psychomotor vigilance task (PVT) lapses was used to classify 49 healthy subjects on the basis of whether they were vulnerable or resistant to SD. DTI and graph theory approaches were used to investigate the topologic organization differences of the brain structural connectome between SD‐vulnerable and ‐resistant individuals. We measured the level of global efficiency and clustering in rich club and non‐rich club organizations. Results: We demonstrated that participants vulnerable to SD had less global efficiency, network strength, and local efficiency but longer shortest path length compared with participants resistant to SD. Lower efficiency was mainly distributed in the right insula, bilateral thalamus, bilateral frontal, temporal, and temporal lobes. Furthermore, a disrupted subnetwork was observed that consisted of widespread connections. Moreover, the vulnerable group showed significantly decreased strength of the rich club compared with the resistant group. The strength of rich club connectivity was found to be correlated negatively with PVT performance (r = −0.395, p = 0.005). We further tested the reliability of the results. Conclusion: The findings revealed that individual differences in resistance to SD are related to disrupted topologic efficiency connectome pattern, and our study may provide potential connectome‐based biomarkers for the early detection of the vulnerable degree to SD. Background: Cervical cancer (CC) is a potential clinical application of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor. We aimed to study the mechanism of DNA mismatch repair (MMR) system regulating the expression of PD-L1 in CC through DNA methyltransferase (DNMTs). Methods: We collected pathological specimens from 118 cases of CC to analyze the relationship between PD-L1 expression and DNMTs in different MMR states. RNA interference (RNAi) technique was used to simulate the formation of CC cell line with MMR deficiency (dMMR) state, and subcutaneous tumor formation experiment was carried out in nude mice to verify the relationship between PD-L1 expression and DNMTs in MMR state. Results: The PD-L1 positive rate in 118 cases of CC was 58.47%, while the microsatellite instability (MSI) status accounted for 5.93%. There was a significant difference in the expression of PD-L1 between patients within the dMMR and MMR proficient (pMMR) groups (χ2 = 21.405, P < 0.001). Subcutaneous inoculation after infection of Siha cells led to successful tumorigenesis in nude mice, accompanied by a significant increase in the level of PD-L1 expression in the mouse tumors, while the expression level of MLH1 and MSH2 protein decreased significantly. We also found that PD-L1 expression was closely related to the expression of DNMTs. Conclusion: PD-L1 is universal expressed on the surface of CC cells, dMMR status enhances the expression of PD-L1 on the surface of CC cells, dMMR states of CC are related to the demethylation status of the PD-L1 gene promoter region. In this paper, a new approach to visual geo‐localization for natural environments is proposed. The digital elevation model (DEM) data in virtual space is rendered and construct a panoramic skyline database is constructed. By combining the skyline database with real‐world image data (used as the "queries" to be localized), visual geo‐localization is treated as a cross‐modal image retrieval problem for panoramic skyline images, creating a unique new visual geo‐localization benchmark for the natural environment. Specifically, the semantic segmentation model named LineNet is proposed, for skyline extractions from query images, which has proven to be robust to a variety of complex natural environments. On the aforementioned benchmarks, the fully automatic method is elaborated for large‐scale cross‐modal localization using panoramic skyline images. Finally, the compound index is delicately designed to reduce the storage space of the positioning global descriptors and improve the retrieval efficiency. PiGF (Phosphor-in-glass film) with high color rendering was successfully prepared at a low sintering temperature. The influence of sintering temperature, the mass ratio of glass and phosphor, and different fluorescent layers on the luminescence properties of PiGF was systematically studied. It is of note that the "cyan cavity" is significantly reduced due to the addition of "cyan phosphor" (BaSi 2 O 2 N 2 :Eu2+). Under 455 nm blue light laser excitation, PiGF has the highest luminous efficiency of 94.55 lm/W and a white light composite PiGF with a correlated color temperature of 5500 K and a color rendering index of 95 can be obtained. The consequence of exposure to the dual environment of seawater sea sand concrete (SWSSC) on the inner surface and seawater (SW) on the outer surface on the durability of fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) confining tubes has received very limited research attention. The durability of FRPs fabricated with different fibre types was investigated for the application of SWSSC filled tubes and SWSSC-filled double-skin tubes exposed to the external environment of SW. The colour and shininess of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) surfaces generally stayed unchanged even after 6 months of exposure to the dual environment, whereas basalt-fibre-reinforced polymer (BFRP) and glass-fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) tubes suffered degradation. The degradation led to a ~20–30% increase in pH; however, the pH increase in the external SW was more pronounced when the internal solution was SWSSC. The extent of degradation was greater in BFRP that in GFRP. An identification method is proposed for errors-in-variables (EIV) ARX model with input time-varying time-delays. A Markov chain is used to model varying time delays whose parameters are also estimated. The EIV system accounts for noises in both input and output. To estimate noise-free input, a linear state space model is used to describe input generation process and a Kalman smoother is adopted for its estimation. An expectation maximization algorithm is used to estimate ARX model parameters. Phosphor-in-glass (PiG) is one of the most important spectral converters to overcome thermal effect in high-power white light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The Al 2 O 3 –SiO 2 –B 2 O 3 –ZnO–Na 2 O–Li 2 O glass was designed and sintered with Y 3 Al 5 O 12 :Ce3+ (YAG: Ce) phosphors at the low temperature of 650 °C to obtain YAG: Ce-PiG. The optimized YAG: Ce-PiG shows the white light of the luminous efficiency (LE), correlated color temperature (CCT) and chromaticity coordinate (CIE) of 177.5 lm/W, 6410 K and (0.31,0.34), respectively. The white LEDs (WLED) were fabricated by coupling the YAG: Ce-PiG with a blue light emitting chip, and the correlation between the luminescence properties, the thickness of PiG and the ratio of phosphors was investigated. More importantly, the WLEDs of a maximum luminous efficiency can reach up to 199.5 lm/W with the thickness of 0.35 mm. In addition, a structure with vacuum packaging technique based on the WLEDs lighting combined with sapphire as substrate was fabricated, which can effectively reduce the heat accumulation during the working process of WLEDs. Compared with normal non-vacuum packaging, the working temperature of WLEDs was reduced by about 35%, from 359.2 to 232.2 °C, with the novel vacuum packaging technique under 30W high-power chip and the luminous performance can still be maintained at 94.7%. N × N filter operations are frequently used in various image processing algorithms in display driver circuits. The implementation of the N × N filter requires a storage element to temporarily retain N or N-1 lines of display data. The traditional approach for this temporary storage element for N × N image filter is either by using N blocks of memory to store N lines of display data with single-port six-transistor (6T) SRAM bit-cells or by using N-1 blocks of memory to store N-1 lines of display data with dual-port eight-transistor (8T) SRAM bit-cells. In this paper, a pseudo multi-port SRAM circuit is proposed for N × N filter in image processing in a display driver integrated circuit (IC). By using pre-read mechanism and word-line/column selection signal forwarding technique, the proposed approach only stores N-1 lines of display 3 × 3 filter application, the proposed approach reduces the overall layout area by 50.3% and 30.2% compared to the traditional dual-port 8T and single-port 6T memory implementations, respectively, in an industrial 0.18-μm CMOS technology. Furthermore, the power used to perform a 3 × 3 filter operation is reduced by 47% and 30.8% with the proposed approach as compared to the traditional dual-port 8T and signal-port 6T memory circuits, respectively, with slight degradation of the access speed. Automatic detection of the skyline plays an important role in several applications, such as visual geo-localization, flight control, port security, and mountain peak recognition. Existing skyline detection methods are mostly used under common weather conditions; however, they do not consider bad weather situations, such as rain, which limits their application in real scenes. In this paper, we propose a multi-stream-stage DenseNet to detect skyline automatically under different weather conditions. This model fully considers the adverse factors influencing the skyline and outputs a probability graph of the skyline. Finally, a dynamic programming algorithm is implemented to detect the skyline in images accurately. A comparison with the existing state-of-the-art methods proves that the proposed model shows a good performance under rainy or common weather conditions and exhibits the best detection precision for the public database. Aims: The brain function impairment induced by sleep deprivation (SD) is temporary and can be fully reversed with sufficient sleep. However, in many cases, long‐duration recovery sleep is not feasible. Thus, this study aimed to investigate whether a short nap after SD is sufficient to restore brain function. Methods: The data of 38 subjects, including resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging data collected at three timepoints (before SD, after 30 h of SD, and after a short nap following SD) and psychomotor vigilance task (PVT) data, were collected. Dynamic functional connectivity (DFC) analysis was used to evaluate changes in brain states among three timepoints, and four DFC states were distinguished across the three timepoints. Results: Before SD, state 2 (a resting‐like FC matrix) was dominant (48.26%). However, after 30 h SD, the proportion of state 2 dramatically decreased, and state 3 (still resting‐like, but FCs were weakened) became dominant (40.92%). The increased proportion of state 3 positively correlated with a larger PVT "lapse" time. After a nap, the proportions of states 2 and 3 significantly increased and decreased, respectively, and the change in proportion of state 2 negatively correlated with the change in PVT "lapse" time. Conclusions: Taken together, the results indicated that, after a nap, the cognitive function impairment caused by SD may be reversed to some extent. Additionally, DFC differed among timepoints, which was also associated with the extent of cognitive function impairment after SD (state 3) and the extent of recovery therefrom after a nap (state 2). Main challenges for developing data-based models lie in the existence of high-dimensional and possibly missing observations that exist in stored data from industry process. Variational autoencoder (VAE) as one of the deep learning methods has been applied for extracting useful information or features from high-dimensional dataset. Considering that existing VAE is unsupervised, an output-relevant VAE is proposed for extracting output-relevant features in this work. By using correlation between process variables, different weight is correspondingly assigned to each input variable. With symmetric Kullback–Leibler (SKL) divergence, the similarity is evaluated between the stored samples and a query sample. According to the values of the SKL divergence, data relevant for modeling are selected. Subsequently, Gaussian process regression (GPR) is utilized to establish a model between the input and the corresponding output at the query sample. In addition, owing to the common existence of missing data in output data set, the parameters and missing data in the GPR are estimated simultaneously. Background: Nowadays, the latent power of technology, which can offer innovative resolutions to disease diagnosis, has awakened high-level anticipation in the community of patients as well as professionals. An easy-to-use mobile app is developed by us, which is purposefully intended for those patients with glaucoma.Methods: A mobile App has been invented for smartphones for the convenient use wherever and whenever. The corresponding experiments carried out by public retinal image database and real captured clinical data reveal the ideal classification accuracy of the App. Also, user feedback evaluation is also carried out in terms of performance test as well as and users' experience.Results: For clinical test using Yanbao App, we found 274 patients for the identification with 648 retinal images to be evaluated by glaucoma classification. Of the 243 glaucoma patients, 191 were screened out with an accuracy of 0.7860 (sensitivity); the number of non-glaucoma patients was 310 of 405, and the accuracy reached 0.7654 (specificity).` The total Accuracy amounted to 0.7731, and the result is close to the test performance obtained on public dataset ORIGA and DRISHTI-GS1.Conclusions: Yanbao App can be applied as an innovative approach exploiting mobile technology to enhance the clinicians' efficiency and a balanced medical resources as well as a provided better tiered medical service system. Background. Patients with liver cirrhosis have a high risk of sepsis and a poor prognosis. Recently, a new standard for sepsis (Sepsis-3) has been proposed in the general population. The Coulter Lh 750 hematology analyzer can evaluate mean volume, conductivity, scatter, and distribution width of leukocyte. We tried to use Sepsis-3 criteria to study the diagnostic value of volume, conductivity, and scattering (VCS) parameters in sepsis and infection in patients with liver cirrhosis compared with traditional infection markers (PCT, IL-6, sCDl63). Methods. A blinded, cohort study was conducted in three different ED populations within three affiliated hospitals. A total of 249 patients with liver cirrhosis were enrolled in the study. According to the "Sepsis-3" consensus criteria, clinical history, and laboratory examination, the subjects were divided into sepsis (n=54), patients with infections (n=95), and patients without systemic infections (n=100). The blood samples of the patients were collected at the time of ED admission and were evaluated for the detection of sepsis. Results. The differences of MNV, MNS, MMV, MMS, MLV, NDW, and MDW in the three groups were statistically significant. In the diagnosis of sepsis in patients with liver cirrhosis, the sensitivity of combined detection of MMV and MDW was 88.89%; the specificity was 74%. This sensitivity was significantly better than the 83.3% achieved using 0.97 mg/L as the cutoff for sCD163. In the diagnosis of infection in cirrhosis, the sensitivity of combination of MNV and MMS was increased to 86.32%; the specificity was 92%. The sensitivity was the same as that achieved by using 0.31 ng/mL as the cutoff value of PCT, but the specificity increased. Conclusion. The leukocyte VCS parameter could be potential parameters for indicating sepsis and infection in patients with liver cirrhosis. The combined detection of MMV and MDW seemed to be helpful for the diagnosis of sepsis in these patients, and the combination of MNV and MMS could better indicate infection for them. The characteristics, breakdown probability, and statistical distribution of breakdown time delay under different du/dt in hundreds of nanoseconds pulse for millimeter gaps have been investigated by employing the statistical experimental method in this paper. The experimental results indicate that both the breakdown time delay and jitter are essentially decreased as the slope of the pulse voltage- du/dt is increased for 1-, 2-, and 4-mm gaps; in particular, increasing the value of du/dt is useful to obtain the smaller relative deviation of breakdown time delay under the same breakdown electric field. The breakdown probabilities for different gaps have been analyzed and a method of utilizing the Gaussian distribution function has been proposed which can be used for evaluating the statistical distribution of breakdown time delay. When the experimental condition is 100% breakdown probability, the breakdown time delay follows a Gaussian distribution. However, it is unsuitable for the fitting of breakdown time delay utilizing a Gaussian function for 2- and 4-mm gaps from the cumulative probability distributions of breakdown time delay because of the lower du/dt values and breakdown probabilities. Glaucoma refers to a chronic disease of the eye that leads to vision loss that is irreversible, which is called 'silent theft of sight'. Thus, an automatic glaucoma screening pipeline from optic disc (OD) localisation to glaucoma risk prediction is proposed in this study. The proposed pipeline consists of three main phases. Firstly, the OD is localised by morphological processing and sliding window methods. Secondly, a novel neural network which is in U‐shape and convolutional introduces concatenating path and fusion loss function is developed to split OD and optic cup (OC) at the same time. Thirdly, both clinical measurements including optic cup‐to‐disc ratio (CDR), neuroretinal rim related features, and hidden features including statistical moments, entropy and energy are combined to train glaucoma classifiers. According to the results of the experiment, the proposed segmentation network achieves the best performance on both OD and OC segmentation and the proposed CDR calculation method is capable of achieving the performance similar to that of ophthalmologist on CDR measurement. Objective: Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is not routinely performed in the real-world practice, and the benefits of IVUS-guided drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation in patients with complex coronary lesions remains unclear. This updated meta-analysis attempts to evaluate the clinical outcomes of the IVUS guidance in these patients. Methods: We searched potential eligible citations from the PubMed, EMBASE, Medline, and other internet sources. The primary endpoint were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), including cardiac death, myocardial infarction (MI), and target vessel revascularization (TVR). The risk of definite/probable stent thrombosis (ST) was chosen as the safety endpoint. Results: Nine randomized trials including a total of 3,612 patients with complex coronary lesions were finally analyzed. Compared to angiography guidance, IVUS-guided DES implantation was associated with significantly lower incidence of MACE [odds ratios (OR) 0.57, 95% confidence intervals (CI): 0.45-0.72, p<0.001; I2=0.0%, p=0.674], cardiac death (OR 0.42, 95% CI: 0.21-0.82, p=0.010; I2=0.0%, p=0.961), MI (OR 0.65, 95% CI: 0.44-0.95, p=0.027; I2=41.8%, p=0.089), TVR (OR 0.55, 95% CI: 0.38-0.79, p=0.001; I2=0.0%, p=0.916), target lesion revascularization (TLR) (OR 0.58, 95% CI: 0.41-0.82, p=0.002; I2=0.0%, p=0.888), and ST (OR 0.48, 95% CI: 0.24-0.93, p=0.029; I2=0.0%, p=0.733). Conclusion: The updated meta-analysis demonstrates that DES implantation under IVUS guidance leads to a significant reduction in MACE, cardiac death, MI, TVR, TLR, and ST among patients with complex coronary lesions. This paper proposes an augmented model approach for identification of nonlinear errors-in-variables (EIVs) systems. An EIV model accounts for uncertainties in the observations of both inputs and outputs. As the direct identification of nonlinear functions is difficult, we propose to approximate the nonlinear EIV model using multiple ARX models. To estimate the noise-free input signal, we use a collection of particle filters which run in parallel corresponding to each of the multiple ARX models. The parameters of local models are estimated by applying expectation maximization algorithm, under a maximum likelihood framework, using the input-output data of the nonlinear EIV system. Morpholine- and bis(2-methoxyethyl)amine-substituted 1,3,5-triazine derivatives containing an alkoxy-o-carborane in the 6-position of the triazine ring were successfully synthesized. The molecular structures of the methoxy- and ethoxy-o-carboranyl-1,3,5-triazines were established by X-ray crystallography. In vitro studies showed that the methylene bridged morpholine- and bis(2-methoxyethyl)amine-substituted o-carboranyl-1,3,5-triazines accumulated to high levels in B16 melanoma cells and exhibited higher cytotoxicity than p-boronophenylalanine. Biomass chars (bio-chars) prepared under two pyrolysis modes and with four particle size ranges were investigated. The pyrolysis modes included isothermal pyrolysis and non-isothermal pyrolysis with three heating rates (5 °C/min, 10 °C/min, and 15 °C/min). The particle size ranges were 58- 75 μm, 75-106 μm, 106-150 μm, and 150-270 μm. The pyrolysis characteristics, pore structures, surface morphologies, and functional groups of the bio-chars were characterized by TGA, specific surface area and porosity analyses, SEM, and FTIR. The mercury adsorption was further explored by the adsorption kinetics. The results established the optimum pyrolysis conditions for mercury adsorption: pyrolysis temperature of 600 °C, heating rate of 10 °C/min, and particle size of 58- 75 μm. In addition, the mercury adsorption processes were affected by both physical adsorption and chemical adsorption. Furthermore, the rate constants of the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order models gradually increased with decreasing particle size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Automatic retinal image registration is still a great challenge in computer aided diagnosis and screening system. In this paper, a new retinal image registration method is proposed based on the combination of blood vessel segmentation and scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) feature. The algorithm includes two stages: retinal image segmentation and registration. In the segmentation stage, the blood vessel is segmented by using the guided filter to enhance the vessel structure and the bottom-hat transformation to extract blood vessel. In the registration stage, the SIFT algorithm is adopted to detect the feature of vessel segmentation image, complemented by using a random sample consensus (RANSAC) algorithm to eliminate incorrect matches. We evaluate our method from both segmentation and registration aspects. For segmentation evaluation, we test our method on DRIVE database, which provides manually labeled images from two specialists. The experimental results show that our method achieves 0.9562 in accuracy (Acc), which presents competitive performance compare to other existing segmentation methods. For registration evaluation, we test our method on STARE database, and the experimental results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method, which makes the algorithm a suitable tool for automated retinal image analysis. Objective: The effects of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)-guided drug-eluting stent (DES) implantation in patients with complex coronary artery lesions remains to be controversial. This study sought to evaluate the outcomes of IVUS guidance in these patients. Methods: The EMBASE, Medline, and other internet sources were searched for relevant articles. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiac events (MACE), including all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction (MI), and target-vessel revascularization (TVR). The incidence of definite/probable stent thrombosis (ST) was analyzed as the safety endpoint. Results: Fifteen clinical trials involving 8.084 patients were analyzed. MACE risk was significantly decreased following IVUS-guided DES implantation compared with coronary angiography (CAG) guidance (odds ratio [OR] 0.63, 95% confidence intervals [CI]: 0.53-0.73, p<0.001), which might mainly result from the lower all-cause mortality risk (OR 0.52, 95% CI: 0.40-0.67, p<0.001), MI (OR 0.70, 95% CI: 0.56-0.86, p=0.001), and TVR (OR 0.53, 95% CI: 0.40-0.70, p<0.001). The subgroup analyses indicated better outcomes of IVUS guidance in DES implantation for these patients with left main disease or bifurcation lesions. Background: The effects of intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) usage in patients with acute myocardial infarction remain controversial. This study sought to evaluate the outcomes of IABP usage in these patients. Methods: Medline, EMBASE, and other internet sources were searched for relevant clinical trials. The primary efficacy endpoints (in-hospital, midterm, and long-term mortality) and secondary endpoints (reinfarction, recurrent ischemia, and new heart failure in the hospital) as well as safety endpoints (severe bleeding requiring blood transfusion and stroke in-hospital) were subsequently analyzed. Results: Thirty-three clinical trials involving 18,889 patients were identified. The risk of longterm mortality in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction was significantly decreased following IABP use (odds ratio [OR] 0.66, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.48-0.91, P=0.010). Both in-hospital and midterm mortality did not differ significantly between the IABP use group and no IABP use group (in-hospital: OR 0.87, 95% CI: 0.59-1.28, P=0.479; midterm: OR 1.12, 95% CI: 0.53-2.38, P=0.768). IABP insertion was not associated with the risk reduction of reinfarction, recurrent ischemia, or new heart failure. However, IABP use increased the risk of severe bleeding requiring blood transfusion (OR 2.05, 95% CI: 1.29-3.25, P=0.002) and stroke (OR 1.71, 95% CI: 1.04-2.82, P=0.035). In the thrombolytic therapy and cardiogenic shock subgroups, reduced mortality rates following IABP use were observed. Conclusion: IABP insertion is associated with feasible benefits with respect to long-term survival rates in patients suffering from acute myocardial infarction, particularly those suffering from cardiogenic shock and receiving thrombolytic therapy, but at the cost of higher incidence of severe bleeding and stroke. Current transmission efficiency in a conical transition magnetically insulated transmission line (MITL) has been studied experimentally on a 1.0-MV linear transformer driver system, which has 10 identical cavities connected in series with MITL. Transmission efficiencies of anode current as high as 98.4% and 93.1% could be achieved when the MITL operates at load-limited and self-limited flows, respectively. As for the cathode current, because of the sufficient length of conical transition MITL, cathode current is also able to sustain high transmission efficiency. But as long as the diode gap is too large, many of the electrons will be launched into the anode–cathode gap and the cathode current near the diode drastically decreases. Summary Germ cells are vital for transmitting genetic information from one generation to the next and for maintaining the continuation of species. Here, we analyze the transcriptome of human primordial germ cells (PGCs) from the migrating stage to the gonadal stage at single-cell and single-base resolutions. Human PGCs show unique transcription patterns involving the simultaneous expression of both pluripotency genes and germline-specific genes, with a subset of them displaying developmental-stage-specific features. Furthermore, we analyze the DNA methylome of human PGCs and find global demethylation of their genomes. Approximately 10 to 11 weeks after gestation, the PGCs are nearly devoid of any DNA methylation, with only 7.8% and 6.0% of the median methylation levels in male and female PGCs, respectively. Inspired by the structure of corn, a NiFe Prussian blue analogue nanocages decorated magnesium hydroxide composite was synthesized for the first time using magnesium hydroxide rods (RMH) as the "corn cob", a Prussian blue analogue (PBA) as the "corn kernels" and polydopamine (PDA) as the membrane linking RMH and PBA. Subsequently, the RMH@PDA@PBA composite was introduced into epoxy resin (EP) to improve its fire retardancy and mechanical properties. The composition, structure and morphology of the RMH@PDA@PBA-incorporated EP composite were investigated. The tensile strength of EP with 3 wt.% RMH@PDA@PBA reached 41.77 MPa, which is higher than that of neat EP (40.51 MPa). The fire-retardant assessments illustrated that the limiting oxygen index and vertical burning tests (UL-94) of EP composite with 3 wt.% RMH@PDA@PBA progressed to 32.3% and the V-0 level as compared to those of virgin EP (24.4% and no rating). In addition, as compared to virgin EP, the peak heat release rate, peak smoke production rate, total heat release at 200 s and total smoke production at 200 s of EP/3RMH@PDA@PBA decreased by 43.1%, 50.0%, 43.9% and 56.3%, respectively. The investigation of the underlying mechanism revealed that the flame retardancy and smoke suppression of EP/3RMH@PDA@PBA were attributed to the endothermic decomposition of RMH, "gauze barrier" mechanism of MgO/FeO, catalytic charring effect of Fe derivatives (MgO/FeO, FeNi 3 , Fe 5 C 2 , Fe 2 N, etc.) and free radical scavenging effect of PBA@Fe[Ⅲ]. The sustainable development of tungsten and molybdenum resources requires a new clean and recyclable separation technology. This work proposes a recyclable clean separation technology of tungsten and molybdenum with a porous amine resin. The resin was well prepared by assembling amine groups on trioctylamine (TOA) and the porous resin matrix D301 by the dipping method. Here, pH 7.8, temperature 25 °C, and reaction time 240 min was used as optimum condition, resulting in the highest sorption capacity 236 mg g−1, and it has a good cycle performance, exhibiting a retention rate of 90% after five cycles. Experimental spectroscopy combined theoretical calculation confirmed that this sustainable sorption behavior is substantially related to the amine functional groups on the resin. Experimental spectroscopy illustrated that the Cl− ions in the amine resin and the MoS 4 2− ions were subjected to ion exchange. Theoretical investigations further confirm that the sorption site is at the N atoms, the sorption behavior is chemical binding with the binding energy −0.055 Ha, and the bonding method is the s orbit of the N atoms in the amine resin hybridized with the s orbit of the S atoms in the amine resin. Owing to such an excellent performance in the selective sorption of molybdenum from the tungstate solution, the amine resin is greatly promising in the tungsten and molybdenum waste recovery field. Aims In acute stroke, neurological damage is due to oxidative stress and neuronal apoptotic death. This study investigated whether Nogo-A 290-562 residues region (M9), fused to the transduction domain of the HIV trans-activator ( TAT) protein, is neuroprotective against cerebral ischemia and the mechanisms. Methods Transient focal cerebral ischemia was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion in male C57 BL/6J mice. TAT-M9, its mutation or vehicle was applied via intraperitoneal injection at the onset of reperfusion. The neurobehavioral scores, infarction volumes, neuronal apoptosis, and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 were evaluated. Malondialdehyde ( MDA), reactive oxygen species ( ROS) levels, and NADPH oxidase activation were measured in the presence or absence of the NADPH oxidase inhibitor apocynin or activator tetrabromocinnamic acid ( TBCA). Results Immunofluorescence results confirmed that TAT-M9 was transduced into brain parenchyma, and it significantly improved neurological behavior, reduced infarct volumes, protected neuronal cells from apoptosis, inhibited activation of NADPH oxidase, and decreased MDA and ROS contents. Furthermore, apocynin imitated the beneficial effects of TAT-M9, while TBCA abolished them. Conclusions Our results demonstrate that TAT-M9 administration attenuates cerebral ischemia by inhibiting NADPH oxidase-mediated oxidative damage and neuronal apoptosis in mice. A new efficient step-by-step process of extracting vanadium and silicium from stone coal cinder was proposed, which overcomes the tendency of stone coal slag to contain vanadium and high silicium during the power generation process in China. The results show that when the stone coal cinder blending with the right amount of sodium carbonate is melted at 1 400 °C for two hours and then is poured into water, then the resulting cinder is leached in sodium hydroxide solution at 100 °C,water glass solution can be produced, and the leaching rate of silicium in raw material is 80. 5%. At the same time, the obtained alkaline leaching residue is leached in 10% sulfuric acid solution at 60 °C, adding small amount of oxidant, the leaching rate of vanadium is 93.1%. Objectives. Schizophrenia (SCZ) is associated with disrupted functional brain connectivity, and antipsychotic medications are the primary and most commonly used treatment for schizophrenia. However, not all patients respond to antipsychotic medications. Methods. The study is aimed at investigating whether the graph-theory-based degree centrality (DC), derived from resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI), can predict the treatment outcomes. rs-fMRI data from 38 SCZ patients were collected and compared with findings from 38 age- and gender-matched healthy controls (HCs). The patients were treated with antipsychotic medications for 16 weeks before undergoing a second rs-fMRI scan. DC data were processed using DPABI and SPM12 software. Results. SCZ patients at baseline showed increased DC in the frontal and temporal gyrus, anterior cingulate cortex, and precuneus and reduced DC in bilateral subcortical gray matter structures. However, those abnormalities showed a clear renormalization after antipsychotic medication treatments. Support vector machine analysis using leave-one-out cross-validation achieved a correct classification rate of 84.2% (sensitivity 78.9%, specificity 89.5%, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) 0.925) for differentiating effective subjects from ineffective subjects. Brain areas that contributed most to the classification model were mainly located within the bilateral putamen, left inferior frontal gyrus, left middle occipital cortex, bilateral middle frontal gyrus, left cerebellum, left medial frontal gyrus, left inferior temporal gyrus, and left angular. Furthermore, the DC change within the bilateral putamen is negatively correlated with the symptom improvements after treatment. Conclusions. Our study confirmed that graph-theory-based measures, combined with machine-learning algorithms, can provide crucial insights into pathophysiological mechanisms and the effectiveness of antipsychotic medications. Sperm and eggs carry distinctive epigenetic modifications that are adjusted by reprogramming after fertilization. The paternal genome in a zygote undergoes active DNA demethylation before the first mitosis. The biological significance and mechanisms of this paternal epigenome remodelling have remained unclear. Here we report that, within mouse zygotes, oxidation of 5-methylcytosine (5mC) occurs on the paternal genome, changing 5mC into 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC). Furthermore, we demonstrate that the dioxygenase Tet3 (ref. 5) is enriched specifically in the male pronucleus. In Tet3-deficient zygotes from conditional knockout mice, paternal-genome conversion of 5mC into 5hmC fails to occur and the level of 5mC remains constant. Deficiency of Tet3 also impedes the demethylation process of the paternal Oct4 and Nanog genes and delays the subsequent activation of a paternally derived Oct4 transgene in early embryos. Female mice depleted of Tet3 in the germ line show severely reduced fecundity and their heterozygous mutant offspring lacking maternal Tet3 suffer an increased incidence of developmental failure. Oocytes lacking Tet3 also seem to have a reduced ability to reprogram the injected nuclei from somatic cells. Therefore, Tet3-mediated DNA hydroxylation is involved in epigenetic reprogramming of the zygotic paternal DNA following natural fertilization and may also contribute to somatic cell nuclear reprogramming during animal cloning. The information unavailability of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) for geo‐localization in many military and tourism applications implies the need to employ other applicable types of information, such as automatic image‐based location recognition. Unlike most existing localization methods that use GNSS information to locate an initial position, this paper proposes an automatic geo‐localization framework that does not require GNSS data. The proposed framework is a two‐stage pipeline that uses a query image and digital elevation model (DEM) data as input. The authors frame automatic geo‐localization without GNSS recordings as a skyline matching problem. By extracting the skyline from the DEM data and query images, the query image can be localized by matching the query skyline feature to the DEM skyline database. It has been demonstrated that this low‐cost approach can perform efficiently in mountainous or hilly areas to produce reliable localization results. Background: Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious complication in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), which still lacks adequate therapy. Irisin, a cleavage peptide off fibronectin type III domain-containing 5, has been shown to preserve cardiac function in cardiac ischemia–reperfusion injury. Whether or not irisin plays a cardioprotective role in DCM is not known. Methods and results: T1DM was induced by multiple low-dose intraperitoneal injections of streptozotocin (STZ). Our current study showed that irisin expression/level was lower in the heart and serum of mice with STZ-induced TIDM. Irisin supplementation by intraperitoneal injection improved the impaired cardiac function in mice with DCM, which was ascribed to the inhibition of ferroptosis, because the increased ferroptosis, associated with increased cardiac malondialdehyde (MDA), decreased reduced glutathione (GSH) and protein expressions of solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) and glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4), was ameliorated by irisin. In the presence of erastin, a ferroptosis inducer, the irisin-mediated protective effects were blocked. Mechanistically, irisin treatment increased Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) and decreased p53 K382 acetylation, which decreased p53 protein expression by increasing its degradation, consequently upregulated SLC7A11 and GPX4 expressions. Thus, irisin-mediated reduction in p53 decreases ferroptosis and protects cardiomyocytes against injury due to high glucose. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that irisin could improve cardiac function by suppressing ferroptosis in T1DM via the SIRT1-p53-SLC7A11/GPX4 pathway. Sepsis is defined as end-organ dysfunction resulting from the host's inflammatory response to infection. One of the most common sepsis-injured organs is the kidneys, resulting in acute kidney injury (AKI) that contributes to the high morbidity and mortality, especially patients in the intensive care unit. Fisetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, has been reported to protect against the rat of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute lung injury. However, the effect of fisetin on septic AKI remains unknown. The current study proposed to systematically investigate the renoprotective effects and the underlying mechanisms of fisetin in septic AKI mice. The model of septic AKI was established on male C57BL/6 J mice by a single intraperitoneal injection of LPS (10 mg/kg). Fisetin was administrated by gavage at 100 mg/kg for 3 consecutive days before LPS injection and the mice were sacrificed at 16 h after LPS injection. The serum and kidney samples were evaluated for biochemical analysis, histopathological examinations as well as inflammation and apoptosis related gene/protein expression. Pretreatment with fisetin significantly alleviated the elevated levels of serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen in LPS-treated mice. Consistently, LPS induced renal damage as implied by histopathological score and the increased injury markers NGAL and KIM-1, which was attenuated by fisetin. Meanwhile, LPS injection triggered proinflammatory cytokine production and inflammation related proteins in the kidneys. However, fisetin inhibited renal expression of IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, HMGB1, iNOS and COX-2 to improve inflammatory response. Furthermore, fisetin effectively reduced the number of TUNEL positive apoptotic cells and suppressed apoptotic protein of Bcl-2, BAX and cleaved caspase-3 in the kidneys of LPS-induced septic AKI. The flashover failure and damage of polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET) films under nanosecond current pulses were experimentally investigated. A nanosecond pulse current test platform was established to study the flashover characteristics, performance degradation, and structural damage of dielectric films under repeated nanosecond current pulses. The accumulation and emission of surface charge influenced by field distortion and trap distribution were analyzed to clarify the mechanism by which the flashover voltage increases linearly with gas pressure at low pressure and saturates at high pressure. The significant effects of pulse energy, gas pressure, and discharge gap on film damage behavior were investigated. The damage pattern of PP and PET films includes surface deformation, reduced flash-voltage tolerance, molecular chain breakage, and group shedding. The damage of PP films is manifested as fine furrows, while PET corresponds to mountainous bumps. With the increasing number of discharges, the breakdown voltage of PP films decreased significantly, while the flash tolerance performance of PET films was more stable. Under the conditions of high pulse current amplitude, small discharge gap, and low air pressure, the damage degree of the film intensifies, which is characterized by severe destruction to the molecular structure and a significant decrease in flashover withstand voltage. The surface flashover characteristics of BOPP (biaxial-oriented polypropylene) films in SF 6 under nanosecond-pulsed voltages are experimentally investigated in this research by using finger electrodes and using the front-edge flashover method. The test factors include the gas pressure, electrode distance, pulse voltage steepness, pulse polarity and applied field direction. The flashover voltage first increases with gas pressure and then saturates at a certain value, such as 0.4 MPa for a 9 mm gap. The more serious the field distortion is, the lower the saturation gas pressure. The increase in the pulse voltage steepness enhances the flashover voltage in general, but a frap phenomenon of the flashover voltage occurs, and the flashover voltages under pulses with steeper fronts are lower at some pressures. Generally, the negative flashover voltage is higher than a positive voltage by using finger-cuboid electrodes, especially at high pressures. The flashover voltage on the film surface with a normal electrical field component is higher than that with a parallel component at low pressures and lower at high pressures. Moreover, a qualitative avalanche model based on the accumulation and emission of surface charges on the films and the field distortion effect of space charge behaviors is employed to explain the above experimental results. Histone deacetylases 6 (HDAC6) has been reported to be involved in the pathogenesis of rhabdomyolysis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI). Selective inhibition of HDAC6 activity might be a potential treatment for AKI. In our lab, N-hydroxy-6-(4-(methyl(2-methylquinazolin-4-yl)amino)phenoxy)nicotinamide (F7) has been synthesized and inhibited HDAC6 activity with the IC50 of 5.8 nM. However, whether F7 possessed favorable renoprotection against rhabdomyolysis-induced AKI and the involved mechanisms remained unclear. In the study, glycerol-injected mice developed severe AKI symptoms as indicated by acute renal dysfunction and pathological changes, accompanied by the overexpression of HDAC6 in tubular epithelial cells. Pretreatment with F7 at a dose of 40 mg/kg/d for 3 days significantly attenuated serum creatinine, serum urea, renal tubular damage and suppressed renal inflammatory responses. Mechanistically, F7 enhanced the acetylation of histone H3 and α-tubulin to reduce HDAC6 activity. Glycerol-induced AKI triggered multiple signal mediators of NF-κB pathway as well as the elevation of ERK1/2 protein and p38 phosphorylation. Glycerol also induced the high expression of proinflammatory cytokine IL-1β and IL-6 in kidney and human renal proximal tubule HK-2 cells. Treatment of F7 notably improved above-mentioned inflammatory responses in the injured kidney tissue and HK-2 cell. Overall, these data highlighted that 2-methylquinazoline derivative F7 inhibited renal HDAC6 activity and inflammatory responses to protect against rhabdomyolysis-induced AKI. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the practical operation of an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) simulator, the flashover phenomenon on the edge of polypropylene dielectrics dominates the insulation failure mode of a peaking capacitor. To analyze the characteristics of polypropylene film flashover voltage under high-pressure SF6, an experimental platform was established, and the pulse generator could output a pulse with a rise time of approximately 27 ns. The experiments were performed on finger electrodes, and the SF6 pressure was set from 0.1 to 1.0 MPa. The experimental results show that the relationship of flashover voltage and gas pressure could be divided into two regions: in low-pressure regions, the flashover voltage increases with the gas pressure linearly and in high-pressure regions, the growth of flashover voltage gradually slows down and approaches a saturation value. As the gap distance increases, the saturation point of gas pressure decreases, and even when close to 0.4 MPa, with a 9-mm gap distance, this unconventional phenomenon cannot be ignored, particularly in practical EMP simulators. When the high surface resistivity and the charge trap distribution on the polypropylene film are considered, the accumulation and emission of surface charges on the film might be the primary reason for the saturated phenomena. Smartphone-assisted fluorescence and colorimetric methods for the on-site detection of Hg2+ and Cl− were established based on the oxidase-like activity of the Au–Hg alloy on the surface of Au/Cu/Ti3C2 NSs. The Au nanoparticles (NPs) were constructed via in-situ growth on the surface of Cu/Ti3C2 NSs and characterized by different characterization techniques. After the addition of Hg2+, the formation of Hg–Au alloys could promote the oxidization of o-phenylenediamine (OPD) to generate a new fluorescence emission peak of 2,3-diaminopenazine (ADP) at 570 nm. Therefore, a turn-on fluorescence method for the detection of Hg2+ was established. As the addition of Cl− can influence the fluorescence of ADP, the fluorescence intensity was constantly quenched to achieve the continuous quantitative detection of Cl−. Therefore, a turn-off fluorescence method for the detection of Cl− was established. This method had good linear ranges for the detection of Hg2+ and Cl− in 8.0–200.0 nM and 5.0–350.0 µM, with a detection limit of 0.8 nM and 27 nM, respectively. Depending on the color change with the detection of Hg2+ and Cl−, a convenient on-site colorimetric method for an analysis of Hg2+ and Cl− was achieved by using digital images combined with smartphones (color recognizers). The digital picture sensor could analyze RGB values in concentrations of Hg2+ or Cl− via a smartphone app. In summary, the proposed Au/Cu/Ti3C2 NSs-based method provided a novel and more comprehensive application for environmental monitoring. In this paper, the design of a self-developed EMP simulator with a 5 m height and an inverted conducting mono-cone antenna with a cone half-angle of 32° is introduced. The experimental region of the simulator is a circular area of 25 m in diameter around the cone vertex. Two feeding modes, feed-in over the ground and feed-in under the ground, are realized by two different high-voltage pulse sources. It can be concluded through radiation field testing that the radiation field waveform generated by the simulator has a rise time of 2–3 ns and a half-width of about 25 ns, meeting the specifications of the EMP experimental waveform in the IEC61000-2-9 standard. Meanwhile, the differences between the engineering implementation of the simulator and its ideal structure during the design process can lead to some distortion issues in the antenna radiation characteristics and the electromagnetic radiation field it generates. The radiation field waveform and the distribution of the EMP field generated by the simulator under different feeding methods, antenna wire quantities, antenna end processing methods, and different antenna resistive loading were studied, and the changes in the radiation field waveform and field distribution with different angles and distances of the monitoring point were analyzed. Based on the measurement results, the radiation characteristics of the antenna and the factors that affect the waveform of the field were studied and analyzed. Through the aforementioned work, a comprehensive understanding of the performance, radiation characteristics, and engineering factors affecting the electromagnetic environment generated by the simulator has been obtained. On this basis, the parameters of the antenna wire quantity, antenna end processing method, and test point position of the designed simulator were reconfirmed and optimized. In summary, this work has important reference significance for mastering the development technology of such simulators, understanding their antenna radiation characteristics, and conducting EMP-related assessments and effect experiments in the future. The interactions between extra‐embryonic tissues and embryonic tissues are crucial to ensure proper early embryo development. However, the understanding of the crosstalk between the embryonic tissues and extra‐embryonic tissues is lacking, mainly due to ethical restrictions, difficulties in obtaining natural human embryos, and lack of appropriate in vitro models. Here by aggregating human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) with human trophoblast stem cells (hTSCs), we revealed the hESCs robustly self‐organized into a unique asymmetric structure which the primitive streak (PS) like cells exclusively distributed at the distal end to the TS‐compartment, and morphologically flattened cells, presumed to be the extra‐embryonic mesoderm cells (EXMC) like cells, were induced at the proximal end to hTSCs. For typical Tesla transformers with open magnetic-core, a novel coaxial design of the primary side using a mechanically controlled spark gap is introduced to obtain a more compact configuration. The primary winding has several alternative ports to vary the current distribution by changing the position of the capacitor component, and the entire primary circuit is built inside the outer cylinder. For this new primary configuration, we estimate the series parameters and ohmic losses: Polypropylene film capacitors and combined metallized film capacitors are used in the verification tests, and the former capacitor exhibits a lower parasitic resistance below 10 mΩ. The ohmic losses caused by the windings and spark gap are also considered. The results of the experiments show that the voltage gain has an 8.2% drop when the parasitic resistance of C1 increased from 10 mΩ to 24 mΩ, and we deduce that the contact resistance of this primary structure can be limited to below 10 mΩ according to the circuit analysis results and the verification test. Purpose: The angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2)—entry receptor of SARS-CoV-2—and its homologue, the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), play a pivotal role in maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis. Potential changes in ACE2 expression levels and dynamics after SARS-CoV-2 infection have been barely investigated. The aim of this study was to develop an ACE2-targeting imaging agent as a noninvasive imaging tool to determine ACE2 regulation. Methods: DOTA-DX600, NODAGA-DX600 and HBED-CC-DX600 were obtained through custom synthesis and labeled with gallium-67 (T1/2 = 3.26 d) as a surrogate radioisotope for gallium-68 (T1/2 = 68 min). ACE2- and ACE-transfected HEK cells were used for the in vitro evaluation of these radiopeptides. The in vivo tissue distribution profiles of the radiopeptides were assessed in HEK-ACE2 and HEK-ACE xenografted mice and imaging studies were performed using SPECT/CT. Results: The highest molar activity was obtained for [67Ga]Ga-HBED-CC-DX600 (60 MBq/nmol), whereas the labeling efficiency of the other peptides was considerably lower (20 MBq/nmol). The radiopeptides were stable over 24 h in saline (> 99% intact peptide). All radiopeptides showed uptake in HEK-ACE2 cells (36–43%) with moderate ACE2-binding affinity (KD value: 83–113 nM), but no uptake in HEK-ACE cells (< 0.1%) was observed. Accumulation of the radiopeptides was observed in HEK-ACE2 xenografts (11–16% IA/g) at 3 h after injection, but only background signals were seen in HEK-ACE xenografts (< 0.5% IA/g). Renal retention was still high 3 h after injection of [67Ga]Ga-DOTA-DX600 and [67Ga]Ga-NODAGA-DX600 (~ 24% IA/g), but much lower for [67Ga]Ga-HBED-CC-DX600 (7.2 ± 2.2% IA/g). SPECT/CT imaging studies confirmed the most favorable target-to-nontarget ratio for [67Ga]Ga-HBED-CC-DX600. Conclusions: This study demonstrated ACE2 selectivity for all radiopeptides. [67Ga]Ga-HBED-CC-DX600 was revealed as the most promising candidate due to its favorable tissue distribution profile. Importantly, the HBED-CC chelator enabled 67Ga-labeling at high molar activity, which would be essential to obtain images with high signal-to-background contrast to detect (patho)physiological ACE2 expression levels in patients. Highlights: Large-area production of self-standing graphene nanofilm (~ 20 cm) through a clean 'substrate replacement' strategy. Realizing highly crystalline graphene nanofilms without micro-gasbags by introducing polymers. The graphene nanofilms demonstrate a solid light–matter interaction (photoelectric conversion in the mid-infrared and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding in X-band) with performance beyond state-of-the-art graphene/silicon diodes and EMI materials. Bulk graphene nanofilms feature fast electronic and phonon transport in combination with strong light–matter interaction and thus have great potential for versatile applications, spanning from photonic, electronic, and optoelectronic devices to charge-stripping and electromagnetic shielding, etc. However, large-area flexible close-stacked graphene nanofilms with a wide thickness range have yet to be reported. Here, we report a polyacrylonitrile-assisted 'substrate replacement' strategy to fabricate large-area free-standing graphene oxide/polyacrylonitrile nanofilms (lateral size ~ 20 cm). Linear polyacrylonitrile chains-derived nanochannels promote the escape of gases and enable macro-assembled graphene nanofilms (nMAGs) of 50–600 nm thickness following heat treatment at 3,000 °C. The uniform nMAGs exhibit 802–1,540 cm2 V−1 s−1 carrier mobility, 4.3–4.7 ps carrier lifetime, and > 1,581 W m−1 K−1 thermal conductivity (nMAG-assembled 10 µm-thick films, mMAGs). nMAGs are highly flexible and show no structure damage even after 1.0 × 105 cycles of folding–unfolding. Furthermore, nMAGs broaden the detection region of graphene/silicon heterojunction from near-infrared to mid-infrared and demonstrate higher absolute electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness than state-of-the-art EMI materials of the same thickness. Recent studies have demonstrated that adiponectin (APN) attenuates cerebral ischemic/reperfusion via globular adiponectin (gAD). However, the therapeutic role of gAD in cerebral ischemic injury in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) remains unclear. Our results showed that gAD improved neurological scores and reduced the infarct volumes in the 8-week T1DM (T1DM-8W) mice, but not in the 2-week T1DM (T1DM-2W) mice. Moreover, the ischemic penumbra APN levels increased and peaked in T1DM-2W mice, and reduced to normal in T1DM-8W mice, while the APN receptor 1 (AdipoR1) expression change was the opposite. Administration of rosiglitazone in T1DM-2W mice up-regulated the expression of AdipoR1 and restored the neuroprotection of gAD, while intracerebroventricular injection of AdipoR1 small interfering RNA (siRNA) in T1DM-8W mice reversed it. Furthermore, the expression of p-PERK, p-IRE1 and GRP78 were increased whereas the expressions of CHOP and cleaved caspase-12 as well as the number of apoptotic neurons were decreased after gAD treatment in T1DM-8W mice. These beneficial effects of gAD were reversed by pretreatment with AdipoR1 siRNA. These results demonstrated a dynamic dysfunction of APN/AdipoR1 accompanying T1DM progression. Interventions bolstering AdipoR1 expression during early stages and gAD supplementation during advanced stages may potentially reduce the cerebral ischemic injury in diabetic patients. Rich groundwater content can produce a complex geological environment for underground tunnels. Therefore, the brittle mechanical characteristics of hard rock exposed by tunnelling in a moist environment are of great significance. Uniaxial tests and acoustic emission (AE) analysis of sandstone with respect to different moisture conditions are described in this paper. Moisture-controlled trends of the stress-strain relationship, mechanical parameter variation, maximum instantaneous AE energy, cumulative AE energy and macro crack behaviour were analysed in detail. In addition, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were performed to analyse the fracture surfaces of rock at the microscale. Sandstone particles were found to be more likely to slip past each other at high moisture contents, resulting in increased plastic deformation and dissipation of internal energy. Increasing moisture reduces the brittleness of hard rock and the probability of rock burst. The results reveal the mechanical mechanisms cause moisture to affect brittle hard rock and can contribute to the improvement of the design and construction of deep tunnels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
