Porous 3D Cu layers with the following average parameters: thickness ~35 µm, pore density ~4.0 × 106 cm−2, and pore sizes ~25 µm were electrodeposited from an acidic sulphate electrolyte, and the suitability of different electrochemically active surface area determination methods for characterising these electrodes was assessed. Structural characterisation of the samples was conducted using SEM and an optical profiler, while electrochemical measurements were performed using cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The evaluation of electrochemically active surface area involved the underpotential deposition of Tl and Pb monolayers as well as double-layer capacitance measurements. The results obtained indicate that both methods yield similar results for non-porous Cu electrodes. However, for Cu 3D nanostructures, the evaluation mode significantly influences the results. Double-layer capacitance measurements show significantly higher values for the electrochemically active surface area compared to the underpotential deposition (UPD) technique. The complex spatial structure of the Cu 3D layer hinders the formation of a continuous monolayer during the UPD process, which is the principal reason for the observed differences. A new deep eutectic solvent (DES) made from urea, magnesium chloride, lithium perchlorate and water has been developed as the electrolyte for battery-supercapacitor hybrid devices. The physicochemical characteristics of DES electrolytes and potential interactions between electrolyte components are well analyzed through electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. It has been discovered that the properties of DES electrolytes are highly dependent on the component ratio, which allows us to engineer the electrolyte to meet the requirement of the battery application. Perylene tetracarboxylic di-imide and reduced graphene oxide ha ve been combined to produce a composite (PTCDI/rGO) that has been tested as the anode in DES electrolyte. This composite shows that the capacitive contribution is greater than 90% in a low scan rate, resulting in the high rate capability. The PTCDI/rGO electrode exhibits no sign of capacity degradation and its coulombic efficiency is close to 99% after 200 cycles, which suggests excellent reversibility and stability. On the other hand, the electrochemical performance of lithium manganese oxide as the cathode material is studied in DES electrolyte, which exhibits the maximum capacity of 76.5 mAh/g at 0.03 A/g current density. After being successfully examined in terms of electrode kinetics, capacity performance, and rate capability, the anode and cathode materials are combined to construct a two-electrode system with DES electrolyte. At a current density of 0.03 A/g, this system offers 43.5 mAh/g specific capacity and displays 55.5% retention of the maximum capacity at 1 A/g. Selective laser sintering (SLS) is one of the most commonly used methods in additive manufacturing, due to its high prototyping speed and applicability to various materials. In the present work, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed to study the thermodynamic behaviors of the planar stacked nanoparticles (NPs) model and explore the potential capability of the SLS process with nano-sized metal powders in the zero-gravity space environment. A multi-particle model of titanium–aluminum (Ti–Al) core–shell NP with a particle radius of 50 Å was constructed to investigate the characteristics of the melted pattern during sintering. Two patterns with different spatial densities were considered to study the influence of particle stacking on the melting process. Various core volume fractions and heating rates were examined to investigate their effects on the quality of the final sintered product. The stacked-NPs models with core volume fractions (CVFs) of 3%, 12%, and 30% were linearly heated up to 1100 K from room temperature (298 K) with heating rates of 0.04, 0.2, 0.5, and 1.0 K ps−1. The initial fusion temperature and final sintering temperature for each stacking pattern were obtained via the validation from the radial distribution function, mean squared displacement, and the radius of the gyration analysis. The 30% CVF yields the largest neck size before the melting point, while beyond the melting point, a larger core helps delay the formation of the fully-melted products. It is observed that using the close-packed stacked-NPs model under a slow heating rate (long melting duration) would help form a stable, completely sintered product with a relatively low final sintering temperature. Cyclic Voltammetry is an analysis method for characterizing the behaviors of electrochemically active materials by measuring current through defined potential sweeps. The current–potential relationship depends on key variables such concentration of electrolyte, electron-transfer rate, and the distance and time of species in relation to the electroactive surface of the material. A MATLAB® simulation was developed on a diffusion and kinetics basis, simulating the equations of Fick's second law and Butler–Volmer, respectively, towards understanding the energy-storage mechanisms of cobalt hydroxide electrodes. The simulation was compared to a real cobalt hydroxide system, showing an accurate approximation to the experimentally obtained response and deviations possibly related to other physical/chemical processes influencing the involved species. This paper focuses on the LiFePO4 (LFP) battery, a classical and one of the safest Li-ion battery technologies. To facilitate and make the cathode manufacture more sustainable, two Kynar® binders (Arkema, France) are investigated which are soluble in solvents with lower boiling points than the usual solvent for the classical PVDF binder. Li-LFP and graphite-Li half cells and graphite-LFP full cells are fabricated and tested in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge-discharge cycling. The diffusion coefficients are determined from the CV plots, employing the Rendles-Shevchik equation, for the LFP electrodes with the three investigated binders and the graphite anode, and used as input data in simulations based on the single-particle model. Microstructural and surface composition characterization is performed on the LFP cathodes, pre-cycling and after 25 cycles, revealing the aging effects of SEI formation, loss of active lithium, surface cracking and fragmentation. In simulations of battery cycling, the single particle model is compared with an equivalent circuit model, concluding that the latter is more accurate to predict "future" cycles and the lifetime of the LFP battery by easily adjusting some of the model parameters as a function of the number of cycles on the basis of historical data of cell cycling. Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubbers with the flame retardants tris(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate, ammonium polyphosphate, polyaniline, and aluminum trihydroxide were prepared and analyzed in this study. The homogenous dispersion of the fillers in the rubber matrix was confirmed by scanning electron microscope. To investigate the interplay of the different flame retardants, the flame retardants were varied systematically. The comprehensive study sought combinations of flame retardants that allow high loadings of flame retardants without deterioration of the physical and mechanical properties of the EPDM rubber. The eight EPDM rubbers were investigated via thermogravimetric analysis and pyrolysis gas chromatography coupled with a mass spectrometer (Py-GC/MS) to investigate the potential synergistic effects. In the Py-GC/MS experiments, 27 pyrolysis products were identified. Furthermore, UL 94, limiting oxygen index, FMVSS 302, glow wire tests, and cone calorimeter tests were carried out. In the cone calorimeter test the EPDM rubbers R-1AP and R-1/2P achieved an increase in residue at flameout of 76% and a reduction in total heat evolved of about 35%. Conducting composites of polyaniline doped with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (PAni.DBSA), carbon black (CB) and poly(styrene-b-styrene-butadiene-b-sty-rene) (STF) as supporting matrix were prepared by in situ polymerization. The influence of components and composition (% w/w) on the electromagnetic properties (dielectric constant ζ' and the dielectric loss ζ') and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) of the materials were evaluated with a waveguide, using a microwave network analyzer from 8.2 to 12.4 GHz (X-band). It was found that CB presence generates adverse effects on PAni.DBSA yield during synthesis, as it can be seen by X-ray diffraction and TGA analyses. The type of PAni.DBSA formed modifies the composites properties. Dielectric constant, loss factor, and EMI shielding increase with conductive filler loading. Graphene and its nanocomposites were prepared via solution mixing process. Graphene based polymer nanocomposites were prepared by two step process. Firstly, graphene/poly(3-methyl thiophene)(PMT)/BaTiO nanocomposite was prepared by in situ chemical oxidation polymerization technique. In the second step these nanocomposites were dispersed in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) matrix by solution blending process. All the four nanocomposites in TPU [30 % modified graphene (P1), 30 % Poly(3-methyl thiophene) (P2), 30 % graphene/PMT/BaTiO (P3) and 15 % graphene/PMT/BaTiO + 15 % FeO (P4)] were analyzed by different analytical techniques like X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Microwave absorbing property was measured by Agilent vector network analyzer (ENA E5071C) in the X-band region (8-12 GHz). Microwave absorption result was interpreted with the help of complex permittivity and permeability of the prepared materials. Matching of both dielectric loss and magnetic loss is essential for an effective radar absorbing material (RAM). P1, P2, P3 and P4 showed the maximum return loss of −14.37, −9.3, −30.02 and −47.59 dB respectively. Thermal stability of the RAMs was determined by the help of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) instrument. Among the all, P4 showed better thermal property. This paper explores the conditions for the electrodeposition of Moad (molybdenum adlayer) on Ag(111) from alkaline aqueous solution. Moreover, the first stages of the growth of MoSe2 are also presented, performing the deposition of Sead on the deposited Moad. The deposition of Moad on Sead/Ag(111) was also explored. MoSe2 is of interest due to its peculiar optoelectronic properties, making it suitable for solar energy conversion and nanoelectronics. In this study, electrodeposition techniques were exploited for the synthesis process as more sustainable alternatives to vacuum based techniques. The electrochemical atomic layer deposition (E-ALD) method emerges as a suitable technique to grow inorganic semiconductor thin films thanks to its fulfillment of the green energy predicament and a strict structural and morphological control, and this approach has gathered the attention of the scientific community. Indeed, E-ALD exploits surface limited reactions (SLRs) to alternate the deposition of chemically different atomic layers constituting a compound semiconductor. Thus, E-ALD is one of the most promising electrodeposition techniques for the growth of thin-film of compound semiconductors under a strict structural and morphological control.
