2. Constant tolerance intersection graphs of subtrees of a tree

Abstract

Abstract: A chordal graph is the intersection graph of a family of subtrees of a host tree. In this paper we generalize this. A graph has an -representation if there exists a host tree T of maximum degree at most h, and a family of subtrees of T, all of maximum degree at most s, such that if and only if . For given , and t, there exist infinitely many forbidden induced subgraphs for the class of -graphs. On the other hand, for fixed , every graph is an -graph provided that we take t large enough. Under certain conditions representations of larger graphs can be obtained from those of smaller ones by amalgamation procedures. Abstract

The main topic of this paper is the investigation of generalized amalgamation properties for simple theories. That is, we are trying to answer the question of when a simple theory has the property of n-dimensional amalgamation, where two-dimensional amalgamation is the Independence Theorem for simple theories. We develop the notions of strong n-simplicity and n-simplicity for 1≤n≤ω, where both “1-simple” and “strongly 1-simple” are the same as “simple”. For strong n-simplicity, we present examples of simple unstable theories in each subclass and prove a characteristic property of strong n-simplicity in terms of strong n-dividing, a strengthening of the dependence relation called dividing in simple theories. We prove a strong three-dimensional amalgamation property for strongly 2-simple theories, and, under an additional assumption, a strong (n+1)-dimensional amalgamation property for strongly n-simple theories. In the last section of the paper we comment on why strong n-simplicity is called strong. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract

The detection of cancer cells is important and fundamental for cancer diagnosis and therapy, which has attracted considerable interest recently. Although traditional cyto-sensors have been widely explored due to their high sensitivity and selectivity, it is still a challenge to develop a low-cost, portable, disposable, fast, and easy-to-use cancer cell detection method for applying in the field of cancer diagnosis and therapy. Herein, to address these challenges, we developed a microfluidic paper-based electrochemiluminescence origami cyto-device (μ-PECLOC), in which aptamers modified 3D macroporous Au-paper electrodes were employed as the working electrodes and efficient platforms for the specific cancer cells capture. Owing to the effective disproportionation of hydrogen peroxide and specific recognition of mannose on cell surface, concanavalin-A conjugated porous AuPd alloy nanoparticles were introduced into this μ-PECLOC as the catalytically promoted nanolabels for peroxydisulfate ECL system. Under the optimal conditions, the proposed μ-PECLOC exhibited excellent analytical performance with good stability, reproducibility, and accuracy, towards the cyto-sensing of four types of cancer cells indicating the potential applications to facilitate effective and multiple early cancer diagnosis and clinical treatment.

Abstract

Dental alloy surface finishing procedures of may influence their electrochemical behavior, which is used to evaluate their corrosion resistance. We examined the polarization resistance and potentiodynamic polarization profile of the precious-metal alloys, Type 4 gold alloy and silver-palladium alloy, and the base-metal alloys, nickel-chromium alloy, cobalt-chromium alloy, and CP-titanium. Three types of finishing procedure were examined: mirror-finishing using 0.05 micron alumina particles, polishing using #600 abrasive paper and sandblasting. Dissolution of the alloy elements in 0.9% NaCl solution was also measured and compared with the electrochemical evaluation. The corrosion resistance of the dental alloys was found to relate to finishing as follows: The polarization resistance and potentiodynamic polarization behavior revealed that the corrosion resistance improved in the order of sandblasting, #600-abrasive-paper polishing, and mirror-finishing. While the corrosion potential, critical current density and passive current density varied depending on the type of finishing, the transpassive potential remained unchanged. The influence of finishing on the corrosion resistance of precious-metal alloys was less significant than on that of base-metal alloys. A mirror-finishing specimen was recommended for use in evaluation of the corrosion resistance of various dental alloys.
