Abstract: The article discusses the need for the European Union (EU) to invest in digitization if it plans to meet the targets of the European Commission (EC) for supplying content to the online library Europeana. EC Digital Agenda vice president Neelie Kroes, the Europeana cannot afford to miss the opportunities offered by digitization and face cultural decline. She adds that investing in digitization will generate new jobs and create new companies.
