This paper explores the geographic overlap of trade and technology shocks across local labor markets in the United States. Regional exposure to technological change, as measured by specialization in routine task-intensive production and clerical occupations, is largely uncorrelated with regional exposure to trade competition from China. While the impacts of technology are dispersed throughout the United States, the impacts of trade tend to be more geographically concentrated, owing in part to the spatial agglomeration of labor-intensive manufacturing. Traditional narratives of external imbalances have focused on the analysis of national accounts, trade flows, and financial flows. They have generated two opposing views of the current situation of the world economy: on one side, a prudent, if not pessimistic view considers large imbalances as evidence of problems with the international monetary and financial system, and symptoms of domestic distortions (mainly in the United States and China). On the other side, a relaxed, if not optimistic view suggests that global imbalances are not anomalies but simply the predictable outcome of a world with increasingly globalized financial flows in search of the right mix of risks and returns. This paper offers a critical analysis of these competing explanations of the United States-China imbalances and suggests a way of reconciling them. The paper uses Hegel's parable of the development of self-consciousness to explain the dynamics between the two countries. Hegel may not have been a great philosopher of history but his study of lordship and bondage provides a good framework for analyzing the dialectics of recognition and acknowledgement that currently characterizes the macroeconomic relationships between the United States and China. Phytoplankton blooms have caused many serious public safety incidents and eco-environmental problems worldwide and became a focus issue for research. Accurate and rapid monitoring of phytoplankton blooms is critical for forecasting, treating, and management. With the advantages of large spatial coverage and high temporal resolution, remote sensing has been widely used to monitor phytoplankton blooms. Numerous advances have been made in the remote sensing of phytoplankton blooms, biomass, and phenology over the past several decades. To fully understand the development history, research hotspots, and future trends of remote-sensing technology in the study of phytoplankton blooms, we conducted a comprehensive review to systematically analyze the research trends in the remote sensing of phytoplankton blooms through bibliometrics. Our findings showed that research on the use of remote-sensing technology in this field increased substantially in the past 30 years. "Oceanography," "Environmental Sciences," and "Remote Sensing" are the most popular subject categories. Remote Sensing of Environment, Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, and International Journal of Remote Sensing were the journals with the most published articles. The results of the analysis of international influence and cooperation showed that the United States had the greatest influence in this field and that the cooperation between China and the United States was the closest. The Chinese Academy of Sciences published the largest number of papers, reaching 542 articles. Keyword and topic analysis results showed that "phytoplankton," "chlorophyll," and "ocean" were the most frequently occurring keywords, while "eutrophication management and monitoring," "climate change," "lakes," and "remote-sensing algorithms" were the most popular research topics in recent years. Researchers are now paying increasing attention to the phenological response of phytoplankton under the conditions of climate change and the application of new remote-sensing methods. With the development of new remote-sensing technology and the expansion of phytoplankton research, future research should focus on (1) accurate observation of phytoplankton blooms; (2) the traits of phytoplankton blooms; and (3) the drivers, early warning, and management of phytoplankton blooms. In addition, we discuss the future challenges and opportunities in the use of remote sensing in phytoplankton blooms. Our review will promote a deeper and wider understanding of the field. This editorial proposes three fundamental issues in the international economic field evoked by the US-China trade war. The first is the intensifying conflict between protectionism measures and the coherence with relevant global trade rules. The second is decoupling between the US and China and subsequent evolution in the global production network. The third is the digression in the trade flow between the US and China and the resulting change in innovative capabilities and manufacturing competitiveness among major industrial countries. This editorial also offers the long-term perspective of the current global trade war and how the world encounters repercussion of openness and protectionism as well as times of prosperity and uncertainty. The rise of China is arguably one of the most significant challenges to the existing geopolitical order. Responding to calls for an integrated approach to geopolitics and corporate strategy, we employ interdisciplinary insights from international relations, international business, and nonmarket strategy to explore how the rapidly changing geopolitical environment rooted in the U.S.–China rivalry affects corporate diplomacy of multinational enterprises. We define corporate diplomacy as the nonmarket strategies of firms that respond to and shape country diplomacy and international relations. We (a) examine how the U.S.–China rivalry has led to a transition in country diplomacy away from liberalism and toward realism, (b) evaluate the broad consequences of that transition for corporate diplomacy, and (c) develop a framework to assess corporate diplomacy under realism through the dual lens of geopolitical realism and institutional multiplicity. Specifically, firms must address global governance gaps (multilateral level), contradictory stakeholder pressures (bilateral level), a liability of origin (in the host country), and the rising importance of alignment with national security priorities (at home). This paper studies the tail dependence for two smaller stock markets that are Taiwanese Taiex and South Korean Kospi against four larger stock markets that are S& P500, Nikkei, MSCI China, and MSCI Europe. The vector autoregression result indicates that both S&P500 and MSCI China indeed have the greatest impact and significance on the other four stock markets. However, the tail dependence of Taiex and Kospi versus either S&P500 or MSCI China are lower due to unilateral impacts from US or China. The Clayton copula yields the jumps of tail dependence and the elliptical copulas generate the trends of tail dependence. The threshold tests of Clayton Kendall's taus between most stock markets are significant in both subprime and Greek debt crises while the tests of Student-t Kendall's taus are only significant for the subprime crisis. It appears that the subprime has changeable trend and jump states of contagion risk while Greek debt has one steady trend state and changeable jump states of contagion risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Prior to its historic 2015 "no hack" pact for commercial advantage with the United States, Beijing has been engaged drafting and passing legislation, most with specific cyber components, to enhance its security posture while protecting its economic interests. This approach is in stark contrast to United States efforts that have demonstrated a focus on "acting globally, thinking locally" philosophy wherein most of its cyber efforts have been outwardly facing and are distinct from other security considerations. This paper suggests that by strengthening its domestic front with a legal framework, Beijing is preparing itself to counter any foreign initiative contrary to Beijing's plans (e.g., cyber norms of behavior, cyber sanctions, etc.) by being able to exert legal measures against foreign interests in country, thereby preserving its cyber sovereignty. This paper examines and takes stock of the changed dynamics in Australia's relationships with China and the United States. It revisits the importance of the US alliance to Australia's security and considers a range of regional bilateral and multilateral options to pursue as Australian strategists seek to bolster the security and prosperity of the nation and the region. It argues that in the absence of compelling alternatives, Australia must hold its nerve in remaining actively engaged with the United States and China. That involves carefully balancing economic and security interests while maintaining a focus on the goal of regional security and prosperity. The purpose of this article was to introduce the possible future relations between China and the United States of America under Donald Trump's presidency. The paper is divided into five sections: economy, real challenges, trade policy and industry, diplomacy. Each of them is introducing key issues in terms of the main topic. The secondary point of this article was to show the gravity of change after the United States of America election results in December 2016 and the impact of this event on American policy toward China. The main conclusion which arose from the article is: during upcoming decade, USA-China relations are going to be extremely tense when compared with the previous years. Background. Ferroptosis is a type of cell death with major topic of debate under current research and plays an important role in disease regulation. Objective. In this study, the literature management software Bibexcel and knowledge graph tool VOSviewer were used to summarize and analyze the international research trends and hotspots about ferroptosis in recent years, which highlight the disease mechanism, diagnosis, and treatment related to ferroptosis. Material/Methods. The core collection database of Web of Science was used for retrieving ferroptosis research literature. The information such as the amount of text, the country, the period, the institution, the fund, and the keywords was extracted by the bibliometric tool Bibexcel. The cooccurrence and clustering function of VOSviewer were used to analyze the high-frequency keywords and the cooperative network of the author, institution, and country. Results. The research of ferroptosis started late and was formally proposed in 2012. It has developed rapidly and presented an "exponential" growth trend. China, the United States, Germany, Japan, and France are the main national forces of ferroptosis research development. The United States and China have a relatively high degree of support and attention to ferroptosis. Exploring oxidative stress, inducers/inhibitors, synergistic antitumor effect, relationships with other cell death types, GSH/GPX4 and iron metabolism imbalance related mechanisms of ferroptosis, and ferroptosis in the nervous system disease, ischemia-reperfusion injury, tumor, inflammation, and age-related diseases are the hot research directions. Conclusion. Ferroptosis has been a research hotspot in the field of biomedicine in recent years and has attracted the attention of scholars all over the world. The occurrence mechanism of ferroptosis and its application in neurological diseases, ischemia and reperfusion injury, tumors, inflammation, and aging are the hot directions of current research. Professor Henry Tye (戴自海) is a world-renowned expert in theoretical particle physics, string theory and cosmology. Since the outbreak of COVID-19 and the American decoupling policy, the global value chains (GVCs) have been switched to regional GVCs, and, in the worst case, are subject to a potential alteration of reversing the GVCs, ultimately entailing a severe impact on international trade and the global energy market. This paper applies a quantitative approach using a computational general equilibrium (CGE) model to estimate the effects of the reverse GVC factors on the global economy, trade, and energy market. These reverse GVC factors will decrease the global GDP, and such effect will bring a greater influence on both China as well as the United States, which is pursuing decoupling. The increased trade costs due to these factors will reduce the GVC indices, mostly in ASEAN by 0.2~1.15%, followed by Korea, Japan and China. Surprisingly, the GVC index in the United States is expected to be strengthened due to the enhanced GVC with its allies such as Canada and Mexico. In China, the use of oil, gas and petroleum is expected to decrease by around 10%, and similar effects are expected in Korea and the EU. Among the world's major energy producers, it is estimated that the US will reduce energy exports by 16–62% depending on the energy source, and the Middle East and Russia will significantly reduce their gas exports. Geopolitical analysis of the policies of the great powers over and in the Balkans in the period of three years is the object of this paper. The author initiates by retelling an event in 2019, indicative of one of the two theses of the text, namely that the US has returned to the Balkans. The second is the assumption, originally launched by the Russian geopolitician Dugin, that the Balkans are one of two monitors of world politics. The text is divided into five chapters. In the introductory part, the author defines his hypothesis and opts for Italian neoclassical geopolitical thought as a theoretical framework. The second chapter overviews basic socio-historical and geographical features of the Peninsula relevant for geopolitical understanding, while the third part of the text puts local political action of both external and internal actors into a broader geopolitical context. The fourth part is the most extensive and represents an overview of the most significant political actions of the great powers - Russia, the United States and China, and Germany, Turkey, and local countries. Using machine learning coupled with stock price data to predict stock price trends has attracted increasing attention from data mining and machine learning communities. An accurate prediction results can help investors reduce investment risks and improve investment returns. The research on correlation stocks is one of the most important directions among many studies. Due to the high volatility and randomness of stock data, the correlation between stocks changes over time, which makes the stock correlation in static correlation stock sets often inconsistent with reality. Furthermore, various raw data related to stocks contain sufficient stock history information to analyze the future trend of stocks, but traditional prediction models cannot make good use of this information, which restricts the learning ability of the model and reduces the prediction accuracy. In this paper, we propose a stock prediction model combining multi-view stock data features with dynamic market correlation information (MDF-DMC). The model extracts stock trend features by combining multi-view raw data of a single stock with a Multi-layer Perceptron Mixer (MLP-Mixer); The improved Transformer encoder learns the correlation between the stock to be predicted and all the selected stocks in the stock market dynamically and extracts the features of the market correlation. We have conducted a large number of experiments on a total of 578 stocks in the stock markets of China and the United States, and the results show that our model has achieved excellent accuracy and returns across all data sets. • Stock movements are influenced by both itself and the market. • Stock multidimensional data can be used to improve the forecasting performance. • The attention mechanism can effectively extract the correlation of market dynamics. Past research has shown that culture can form and shape our temporal orientation–the relative emphasis on the past, present, or future. However, there are mixed findings on how temporal orientations vary between North American and East Asian cultures due to the limitations of survey methodology and sampling. In this study, we applied an inductive approach and leveraged big data and natural language processing between two popular social media platforms–Twitter and Weibo–to assess the similarities and differences in temporal orientation in the United States of America and China, respectively. We first established predictive models from annotation data and used them to classify a larger set of English Twitter sentences (NTW = 1,549,136) and a larger set of Chinese Weibo sentences (NWB = 95,181) into four temporal catetories–past, future, atemporal present, and temporal present. Results show that there is no significant difference between Twitter and Weibo on past or future orientations; the large temporal orientation difference between North Americans and Chinese derives from their different prevailing focus on atemporal (e.g., facts, ideas) present (Twitter) or temporal present (e.g., the "here" and "now") (Weibo). Our findings contribute to the debate on cultural differences in temporal orientations with new perspectives following a new methodological approach. The study's implications call for a reevaluation of how temporal orientation is measured in cross-cultural studies, emphasizing the use of large-scale language data and acknowledging the atemporal present category. Understanding temporal orientations can guide effective cross-cultural communication strategies to tailor approaches for different audience based on temporal orientations, enhancing intercultural understanding and engagement. This article explores the behaviors of the U.S. and China regarding the war in Ukraine from a role theory perspective. The developments on the ground reveal that the American and Chinese positions on the Russia-Ukraine war should be viewed not independently from each other but within the context of their global strategic competition as well as the roles they attribute to themselves, known as national role conceptions, and the roles they attribute to one another, known as altercasting. From that point of view, the study argues that the war in Ukraine is not only a war of geopolitical significance between the West and Russia, but it is also a war of roles between the U.S. and China. The quantile regression technique is introduced into the Lotka–Volterra ecosystem analysis framework. The quantile grey Lotka–Volterra model is established to reveal the dynamic trade relationship between China and the United States. An optimisation model is constructed to solve optimum quantile parameters. The empirical results show that the quantile grey Lotka–Volterra model shows higher fitting accuracy and reveals the trade relationships at different quantiles based on quarterly data on China–US trade from 1999 to 2019. The long-term China–US trade relationship presents a prominent predator–prey relationship because exports from China to the US inhibited China's imports from the United States. Moreover, we divide samples into five stages according to four key events, China's accession to the WTO, the 2008 global financial crisis, the weak global economic recovery in 2015, and the 2018 China–US trade war, recognising various characteristics at different stages. Financial technology (Fintech), characterized as technology-driven financial innovation, has catalyzed significant economic growth across various nations. The Fintech sector has experienced remarkable expansion, boasting vast user numbers. While regions like the United States and China have seen accelerated Fintech development, other areas like Western Europe, Eastern Asia, and the Middle East continue their evolutionary journey with this technology. Our research offers a systematic review of contemporary literature, probing the crucial Fintech metrics affecting bank profitability and identifying the primary factors influencing these profits. This review introduces a holistic methodology for quantitatively assessing the evolving Fintech measures and their interplay with determinants of bank profitability. According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, our study evaluates 28 articles from Web of Science and Scopus databases from August 2019 to August 2023. Findings delineate two principal themes: Fintech measures at both bank and country levels and determinants of profitability, encompassing bank-specific and country-specific variables. We utilize the Theories, Constructs, Contexts, and Methods framework to chart the course for future research. Our insights bear significance for theoretical progression and practical implementation, offering academics, banking professionals, and policymakers a nuanced comprehension of the nexus between Fintech and bank profitability. Reducing building energy use, a linchpin of climate change mitigation, is a daunting challenge across the world. Gaining increasing attention, retro-commissioning (RCx) is a systematic process that can improve building energy performance. Using a techno-legal lens to review statutes and guides on RCx, this study reveals that in China, a national standard on building commissioning has taken effect yet RCx statutes are hitherto not found. The United States has RCx statutes enacted over 14 states; scrutinizing the statutes of five cities unveils similarities and differences in their scope of control and compliance requirements. In the absence of a specific RCx statute, the guide of Hong Kong, China provides detailed guidance for energy saving practices. While these findings can serve as reference for other places planning to formulate laws or guidance on RCx, the need to further study the effectiveness of mandating RCx for reducing building energy use is highlighted. A conceptual analysis of cost variation with statutory control, which could help policymakers consider from an economic perspective whether or to what extent statutory RCx requirements should be imposed, is also illustrated. This not only contributes insights to the pursuit of an optimal balance between statutory control and voluntary action for energy reduction but also adds to the debate on building energy policies. South Korea, caught amid the intensifying Sino-US peer competition, has begun to re-orientate its foreign policy under President Yoon Suk-yeol, significantly shifting it away from his predecessor President Moon Jae-in. At the crux of these policy changes is a shift away from the so-called "Three Noes", which have existed as a policy stopgap in order to stabilize Seoul's position between China and the US following the 2017 THAAD debacle. This policy shift indicates that the Yoon administration has begun removing policy stopgaps that facilitated hedging behavior and is trimming South Korea's hedge tacking harder on the US for security and aligning as a core Asian state with the Rules-based International Order. Nevertheless, careful strategic calculus is required to avoid backlash from Beijing, despite Yoon seeking closer alignment with Washington. The policy shift underway has the geostrategic potential to solidify the Northeast Asian flank of Washington's efforts to counter Beijing, with a phalanx of Asia-Pacific allies and partners. Background: The COVID-19 epidemic generated different forms of stress. From this period, there has been a remarkable increase in the quantity of studies on stress conducted by scholars. However, few used bibliometric analyses to focus on overall trends in the field. Purpose: This study sought to understand the current status and trends in stress development during COVID-19, as well as the main research drives and themes in this field. Methods: 2719 publications from the Web of Science(WOS) core repository on stress during COVID-19 were analyzed by utilizing Co-Occurrence (COOC), VOS viewer, and Cite Space bibliometric software. The overall features of research on stress during COVID-19 were concluded by analyzing the quantity of publications, keywords, countries, and institutions. Results: The results indicated that the United States had the largest number of publications and collaborated closely with other countries with each other. University of Toronto was the most prolific institution worldwide. Visualization and analysis demonstrated that the influence of stress during COVID-19 on the work, life, mental and spiritual dimensions is a hot research topic. Among other things, the frequency of each keyword in research on stress during COVID-19 increased from 2021 to 2022, and the researchers expanded their scope and study population; the range of subjects included children, nurses, and college students, as well as studies focusing on different types of stress, and emphasizing the handling of stress. Conclusion: Our findings reveal that the heat of stress research during COVID-19 has declined, and themain research forces come from the United States and China. As China and the United States strive to be the primary global leader in AI, their visions are coming into conflict. This is frequently painted as a fundamental clash of civilisations, with evidence based primarily around each country's current political system and present geopolitical tensions. However, such a narrow view claims to extrapolate into the future from an analysis of a momentary situation, ignoring a wealth of historical factors that influence each country's prevailing philosophy of technology and thus their overarching AI strategies. In this article, we build a philosophy-of-technology-grounded framework to analyse what differences in Chinese and American AI policies exist and, on a fundamental level, why they exist. We support this with Natural Language Processing methods to provide an evidentiary basis for our analysis of policy differences. By looking at documents from three different American presidential administrations––Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden––as well as both national and local policy documents (many available only in Chinese) from China, we provide a thorough comparative analysis of policy differences. This article fills a gap in US–China AI policy comparison and constructs a framework for understanding the origin and trajectory of policy differences. By investigating what factors are informing each country's philosophy of technology and thus their overall approach to AI policy, we argue that while significant obstacles to cooperation remain, there is room for dialogue and mutual growth. Two historically disparate fields of law--property and national security--are colliding through the hyper-activity of state governments. Against the backdrop of the U.S.-China trade/tech war, state governors and legislatures are competing with each other in introducing bills to sever all ties with China, stunt the growth of Sinocentric supply chains, and neutralize China's soft power in the world. While the state bills operate in parallel to federal legislation and regulation, in many instances, states' activities go much further than federal efforts. States are laboratories of China-delinking. The China-related bills passed to date address a wide range of subjects: from TikTok and semiconductors, to educational exchange and Confucius Institutes, to human rights and forced labor in Xinjiang. National security is often the justification for these laws. While the state statutes have strong symbolic aspects, they are already affecting property relationships, and raise a host of constitutional and foreign affairs questions. These issues have galvanized litigation that is currently working its way through the federal court system. The infusion of national security into property law has potentially far-reaching consequences not only for Chinese citizens residing in the U.S. and for U.S.-China relations, but also for the future development of American property law. Based on a bespoke data set of 152 state bills and laws, this Article is the first attempt to make sense of these bills and laws by diagnosing their common features and analyzing their constitutional implications regarding equal protection and federal preemption. Specifically, this Article focuses on those state legislative sources regulating property broadly conceived-- including land, corporate interests, and data--arguing that while there are national security threats posed by Chinese actors in the United States, the state statutes often go too far, violate the Constitution, and show U.S. property law trending towards illiberalism. States have become sites for the integration of national security into property law because of traditional state rights to regulate real property. Yet the state statutes affect immigration and other foreign affairs matters with China, thus opening the door to federal preemption. The state laws have been met with lawsuits, one of which, Shen v. Simpson, is on appeal in the Eleventh Circuit and a focus of this Article. This Article finds that the root of the issues pertaining to the China- related state statutes is both epistemic and doctrinal. On the one hand, political and corporate interests promote anti-China agendas through lawmaking, and, on the other hand, these sentiments are not wholly new and in fact they benefit from enduring structures in property law, even if they have become supercharged through national security. Correcting these issues requires an approach that creates structural centralization of such foreign affairs-related matters in the federal government while balancing this centralization with state interests. Mirroring the causes of the current problem, this balanced centralization necessitates both epistemic and doctrinal reforms. First, in terms of legislation, federal preemption of state statutes that touch on foreign affairs should obtain particular salience during periods of heightened bilateral tension. At the same time, the federal government cannot sideline state government concerns. Rather, state concerns can continue to play an important role in lawmaking in regard to China. Second, regarding judicial review, courts need to fine-tune standards for equal protection concerns, pursuant to the level of risk posed by a Chinese entity or person. China and Pakistan celebrated the 10th anniversary of the launch of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in 2023. Over the past decade, the CPEC has been developed amid controversies and challenges, and has achieved notable successes, especially in large-scale infrastructure construction, which has laid the foundation for Pakistan's economic development in the long term. However, the ever-changing domestic and international environment has not alleviated the challenges and risks facing the future development of the CPEC. Probabilistic load forecasting (PLF) aims to predict the future uncertainties of loads to reduce the potential risks in power system planning and operation. In the increasingly complex power market environment, exploring advanced approaches to obtain more accurate PLF is still a significant topic. Optimizing individual forecasting method is no longer the only direction to improve the accuracy of load forecasting in recent years. Researchers started to focus on combination methods because of their better accuracy in most cases than a single model. There are existing combination methods designed for parametric environment, where some results are based on the certain assumption (e.g., Gaussian distribution assumption of single prediction). Combining probabilistic forecasts in nonparametric environment is rarely investigated, because modeling the combination problem without assuming distributions of parameters is hard. This paper proposes a novel combined model for probabilistic forecasting tailored to nonparametric environments, which combines multiple quantile-based models by minimizing the overall loss function composed of continuous ranked probability score (CRPS) under kernel density estimation (KDE). We define a multilayer Gaussian mixture distribution, which is an extended form of Gaussian mixture distribution that can simulate any distribution type in nonparametric environment. Based on the multilayer Gaussian mixture distribution, the combined model is further formulated into a quadratic programming problem with linear restrictions that can be solved efficiently. Case studies are performed using benchmark and competition datasets from the United States and China. The results show that our proposed method outperforms the best individual model and other existing combination methods. Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate how relative power and mutual commitment affect partners’ choice of influence strategies and how national culture may moderate these effects in the context of international strategic alliances. Design/methodology/approach – In two experiments involving US and Chinese managers, respectively, the study looks into situations wherein a party’s power is lower, equal or higher, all relative to the other party, and there is high versus low mutual commitment between the two parties. The effects of relative power and mutual commitment on influence strategies are also compared between US and Chinese managers. Findings – There is no significant difference between low and equal power with regard to choice of influence strategies. However, moving from a low/equal power to a high-power position, a party’s use of integrative (non-mediated) communications decreased significantly, whereas the use of coercive (mediated) communications increased significantly. The results also show that the effect of relative power is greater when mutual commitment is low than when mutual commitment is high. Finally, there is evidence that the effect of power is stronger for the Americans, whereas the effect of commitment is stronger for the Chinese. Originality/value – The paper offers a finer account of power relations wherein a party’s power is lower than, equal to or higher than that of the other party and explores the moderating effect role of national culture on the linkages from relative power and relationship commitment to influence strategy use. We are witnessing an increased number of unexpected political and economic evolutions, of crises and conflicts, of hot spots on the geopolitical map - see the hybrid war in Eastern Ukraine, on the Euro-Atlantic frontier, the actions of ISIL and the changing nature of conflict and the dramatic follow-up of the socalled Arab Spring, the wars in Libya, Syria or Yemen and moreover China's new status as being ?on the rise?, its assertively in South and East China Seas, etc. - which are all part of the new political and strategic landscape at the beginning of the XXI Century. These events happen in a stage of transition to a new cycle of systemic power/towards a new strategic environment which means that we are facing a redistribution of power, are designing of the geopolitical map. The Arctic is an emerging region of great significance to US-China- Russia great power competition. This is due to the concentration of natural resources in the Arctic, as well as its future use as a transportation corridor between the Pacific and Atlantic. Russia's dominant position in the Arctic complicates the US-China dyad. While most high-level US security strategies and discourse identify the return of great power competition as the dominant current security paradigm, China and Russia are generally treated in isolation from each other. However, when it comes to the Arctic, China-Russia cooperation is a crucial factor to consider when formulating US strategy. This article places Chinese ambitions in the Arctic in the context of Chinese grand strategy and assesses the basis of, and prospects for, Chinese-Russian Arctic cooperation. It also advances a three-track framework for understanding Chinese-Russian cooperation in the Arctic--economic, military, and political--in which issues of control and trust are contested. As digitalization increases, countries employ digital diplomacy, harnessing digital resources to project their desired image. Digital diplomacy also encompasses the interactivity of digital platforms, providing a trove of public opinion that diplomatic agents can collect. Social media bots actively participate in political events through influencing political communication and purporting coordinated narratives to influence human behavior. This article provides a methodology towards identifying three types of bots: General Bots, News Bots and Bridging Bots, then further identify these classes of bots on Twitter during a diplomatic incident involving the United States and China. In the balloon incident that occurred in early 2023, where a balloon believed to have originated from China is spotted across the US airspace. Both countries have differing opinions on the function and eventual handling of the balloon. Using a series of computational methods, this article examines the impact of bots on the topics disseminated, the influence and the use of information maneuvers of bots within the social communication network. Among others, our results observe that all three types of bots are present across the two countries; bots geotagged to the US are generally concerned with the balloon location while those geotagged to China discussed topics related to escalating tensions; and perform different extent of positive narrative and network information maneuvers. The broader implications of our work towards policy making is the systematic identification of the type of bot users and their properties across country lines, enabling the evaluation of how automated agents are being deployed to disseminate narratives and the nature of narratives propagated, and therefore reflects the image that the country is being projected as on social media; as well as the perception of political issues by social media users. This article explores how diasporic Chinese video artists present familial histories and tales of cross-cultural exchange in the context of an exhibition I am curating, Another Beautiful Country: Moving Images by Chinese American Artists, at the University of Southern California (USC) Pacific Asia Museum. I discuss projects by featured artists Richard Fung and Patty Chang. These artists' experimental documentaries and performative videos foster deep personal discoveries that defy the late-capitalist obsession with the new as defined by youth, novelty, and the next trend, providing revelatory insights through recuperative engagements with what has come before. In analyzing artworks by Fung and Chang, I also reference related texts by/about artists and historical figures including Walter Benjamin, Anna May Wong, and Zhang Ailing, who emigrated from the People's Republic of China to the United States in the 1950s and whose special collections in the USC Libraries helped inform the exhibition's programming. I also interweave my own related familial histories and share some (not-so-new) curatorial ideas for immersing audiences in intercultural art and reflection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the brewing tech war between the United States and China, the quest for tech supremacy is in full force. Through enacting a series of laws and policies, China aims to reach its goal of tech supremacy. If China succeeds, U.S. corporations will face a daunting task in competing against Chinese products and services in core industries and in sectors where artificial intelligence and technological breakthroughs reign. Artificial intelligence (AI) is evolving quickly, and its applications are attracting attention on a global scale. They have the potential to revolutionize many dimensions of human life, including education. AI has reformed various teaching methodologies, assessment methods and by enhancing their competitiveness and adaptability. In the current era, after the pandemic most preferably the AI and Education have interwoven and is continued to grab the attention of Academicians, Tutors, Instructors, the government, and students so that the research keeps AI and education intermingled for the benefit of society at large. The goal of our work is to present a visualization in form of the research trends and bibliometric analysis of research on the implementation of AI in HE during the 20 years. The study involves various parameters to include and exclude the research articles, we assessed 314 publications written by scientists in 67 different countries over the course of the last 20 years and included in the Scopus database. The study used word analysis and a variety of bibliometric markers to look at emerging patterns. In order to visualize the prominent research trends by locating keywords utilized inside AI in HE, VOSviewer was used. The findings display the annual publication rate of AI publications, as well as their regional distribution, subject- and keyword-level analyses, and research trends. Computer science and engineering disciplines dominate the interdisciplinary research in AI. AI research in HE is expanding; in the last five years have produced 78%, compared to 22% over the first 15 years. China and the United States are at the forefront of AI development, which is dominated by nations with significant research expenditures. There is hardly any research coming from poor nations. China and the United States have seen expeditious investment growth in renewable energy and climate-related industries. Due to differences in political environments and governance structures, monetary settings, and prevailing market technologies and geographic conditions, the two countries demonstrate varied strengths and weaknesses in promoting climate investment. Both countries can learn from each other's distinctive strengths and weaknesses to identify potential opportunities both for domestic climate programmes and energy cooperation to jointly pursue pathways to achieve net zero carbon footprints. The current trade war between China and the United States has drawn global attention to competition in U.S.-China relations. Such competition should not, however, obscure areas of mutual interest where cooperation is possible. Based on U.S.-China trilateral pilot projects, trilateral cooperation creates opportunities for aid officials and practitioners from China and the United States to communicate, but it would be ambitious to expect the limited number of pilot projects to shape Chinese aid practices or improve Chinese aid performances in the short term. These pilot projects are small in scale, and the level of coordination between China and the United States should be strengthened further. More effort by both sides is needed if trilateral aid cooperation is to sustain and even thrive. The article presents a study which investigates the implications of the border carbon adjustments (BCAs) to the bilateral trade flow of the U.S. to China and India. It says that the economic and the environmental impacts of the imposed trade policies are simulated using the Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP)-E model. Furthermore, it mentions that the exploration of the impacts of the border adjustments is applicable to the climate change policy in all countries.

This paper aims to build theoretical foundations for a new paradigm of MNC-driven interactive growth. Catch-up growth (during which eMNCs emerge on the global stage) is derived from close interactions between aspiring emerging economies and advanced economies (including aMNCs) under the liberal global order. Since sovereignty-conscious emerging economies are naturally determined to foster the growth of national enterprises (including latent eMNCs), the state predictably plays a significant role in their catch-up efforts. Schumpeterian structural economics, flying-geese frames of reference, and endogenous growth perspective are employed as building blocks for the terms of the evolving relations between the leader and the led, a relationship that is destined dialectically to engender both political and economic rivalries due to the very success encouraged by liberalism. From the earliest years of the Internet’s creation, cyberspace has been distinguished from other types of political space because of three unique qualities: (i) its ability to mobilize users, particularly “outsiders” including those who have not been easily included in political systems using conventional means; (ii) its ability to quickly provide large quantities of information of uncertain or unregulated quality; and (iii) its ability to shrink distances between users, in some sense rendering conventional physical geography irrelevant. This paper presents three lenses for interpreting the significance of these developments: utopian, liberal, and realist. Evolving doctrines of cyberwarfare as put forth by China, Russia, and the United States in particular stress the ways in which cyberspace presents a unique security threat which may present greater advantages to nonstate actors engaged in unconventional warfare. Anson Burlingame (1820-1870), often neglected or misunderstood today, was an ardently antislavery congressman from Boston whom Abraham Lincoln appointed minister to China in 1861. Burlingame developed a Cooperative Policy that advocated peaceful means while upholding China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese government subsequently appointed him China's first envoy to the Western powers. The first stop of the so-called Burlingame Mission was America, from March to September 1868. is article focuses on three topics: (1) How the mission's reception reflected the partisan struggle over Reconstruction and the push for racial equality. Republicans, the party of Reconstruction, proved sympathetic to the mission and to China, while the opposition Democrats were hostile. (2) How Burlingame presented Americans with a strongly favorable image of China to emphasize treating it with full respect and as a normal nation. (3) The Burlingame Treaty, the first equal treaty between China and a Western power after the Opium War, which sought to place China on a full and equal status in international affairs and to place Chinese in America on an equal footing with immigrants from other nations. The remarkable economic rise of China and the recent turmoil in US financial markets inevitably raises questions about the respective fortunes of both countries. This paper assess the relative standing of the US and China by placing their relationship in historical context. It is suggested that China's accession to the WTO marked the highpoint of US influence and ascendancy. Since then, China's position has been steadily improving, something that the recent emergence of its first sovereign wealth fund and its subsequent role in bailing out distressed US financial institutions has dramatically highlighted. If China's form of 'state capitalism' continues to become more influential it will have major consequences for not only the US, but for the extant geopolitical order more generally. This paper tests the hypothesis that the economic relationships between China and her major trading partners have changed over the past 20 years with the industrialisation of China, and the emergence of Japan as a source of investment and network trade in sophisticated manufactures, and the US as a source of finance and investment assets, supplier of services and an apparently inexhaustible demand for consumer and intermediate goods. Has this changed the size and direction of spillovers in the region, and has it curtailed or eliminated American economic leadership? We use time-varying spectral methods to decompose the links between the two leading Asian economies and the US. We find: (a) the links with the US have been weakening, while those based on China have strengthened; (b) that this is not new—it has been happening since the 1980s, but has now been reversed by the surge in trade; (c) that the links with the US have been rather complex, with the US able to shape the cycles elsewhere through her control of monetary conditions, but the China zone able to control the size of their cycles; (d) that Japan remains linked to (and dependent on) the US; and (e) there is no evidence that pegged exchange rates encourage convergence.
