Background: To develop a deep learning(DL) model utilizing ultrasound images, and evaluate its efficacy in distinguishing between benign and malignant parotid tumors (PTs), as well as its practicality in assisting clinicians with accurate diagnosis., Methods: A total of 2211 ultrasound images of 980 pathologically confirmed PTs (Training set: n = 721; Validation set: n = 82; Internal-test set: n = 89; External-test set: n = 88) from 907 patients were retrospectively included in this study. The optimal model was selected and the diagnostic performance evaluation is conducted by utilizing the area under curve (AUC) of the receiver-operating characteristic(ROC) based on five different DL networks constructed at varying depths. Furthermore, a comparison of different seniority radiologists was made in the presence of the optimal auxiliary diagnosis model. Additionally, the diagnostic confusion matrix of the optimal model was calculated, and an analysis and summary of misjudged cases' characteristics were conducted., Results: The Resnet18 demonstrated superior diagnostic performance, with an AUC value of 0.947, accuracy of 88.5%, sensitivity of 78.2%, and specificity of 92.7% in internal-test set, and with an AUC value of 0.925, accuracy of 89.8%, sensitivity of 83.3%, and specificity of 90.6% in external-test set. The PTs were subjectively assessed twice by six radiologists, both with and without the assisted of the model. With the assisted of the model, both junior and senior radiologists demonstrated enhanced diagnostic performance. In the internal-test set, there was an increase in AUC values by 0.062 and 0.082 for junior radiologists respectively, while senior radiologists experienced an improvement of 0.066 and 0.106 in their respective AUC values., Conclusions: The DL model based on ultrasound images demonstrates exceptional capability in distinguishing between benign and malignant PTs, thereby assisting radiologists of varying expertise levels to achieve heightened diagnostic performance, and serve as a noninvasive imaging adjunct diagnostic method for clinical purposes., (© 2024. Objective: Rheumatoid arthritis and Ankylosing spondylitis are two common autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases that negatively affect activities of daily living and can lead to structural and functional disability, reduced quality of life. Here, this study utilized Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy on dried serum samples and achieved early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis based on deep learning models., Method: A total of 243 dried serum samples were collected in this study, including 81 samples each from ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and healthy controls. Three multi-scale convolutional modules with different specifications were designed based on the multi-scale convolutional neural network (MSCNN) to effectively fuse the local features to enhance the generalization ability of the model. The FTIR was then combined with the MSCNN model to achieve a non-invasive, fast, and accurate diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, and healthy controls., Results: Spectral analysis shows that the curves and waveforms of the three spectral graphs are similar. The main differences are distributed in the spectral regions of 3300-3250 cm -1 , 3000-2800 cm -1 , 1750-1500 cm -1 , and 1500-1300 cm -1 , which represent: Amides, fatty acids, cholesterol, proteins with a carboxyl group, amide II, free amino acids, and polysaccharides. Four classification models, namely artificial neural network (ANN), convolutional neural network (CNN), improved AlexNet model, and multi-scale convolutional neural network (MSCNN) were established. Through comparison, it was found that the diagnostic AUC value of the MSCNN model was 0.99, and the accuracy rate was as high as 0.93, which was much higher than the other three models., Conclusion: The study demonstrated the superiority of MSCNN in distinguishing ankylosing spondylitis from rheumatoid arthritis and healthy controls. Introduce: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and osteoarthritis (OA) are three rheumatic immune diseases with many common characteristics. If left untreated, they can lead to joint destruction and functional limitation, and in severe cases, they can cause lifelong disability and even death. Studies have shown that early diagnosis and treatment are key to improving patient outcomes. Therefore, a rapid and accurate method for rapid diagnosis of diseases has been established, which is of great clinical significance for realizing early diagnosis of diseases and improving patient prognosis., Methods: This study was based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) combined with a deep learning model to achieve non-invasive, rapid, and accurate differentiation of AS, RA, OA, and healthy control group. In the experiment, 320 serum samples were collected, 80 in each group. AlexNet, ResNet, MSCNN, and MSResNet diagnostic models were established by using a machine learning algorithm., Result: The range of spectral wave number measured by four sets of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is 700-4000 cm-1. Serum spectral characteristic peaks were mainly at 1641 cm-1(amide I), 1542 cm-1(amide II), 3280 cm-1(amide A), 1420 cm-1(proline and tryptophan), 1245 cm-1(amide III), 1078 cm-1(carbohydrate region). And 2940 cm-1 (mainly fatty acids and cholesterol). At the same time, AlexNet, ResNet, MSCNN, and MSResNet diagnostic models are established by using machine learning algorithms. The multi-scale MSResNet classification model combined with residual blocks can use convolution modules of different scales to extract different scale features and use resblocks to solve the problem of network degradation, reduce the interference of spectral measurement noise, and enhance the generalization ability of the network model. Background: Calcification is a common phenomenon in both benign and malignant thyroid nodules. However, the clinical significance of calcification remains unclear. Therefore, we explored a more objective method for distinguishing between benign and malignant thyroid calcified nodules., Methods: This retrospective study, conducted at two centers, involved a total of 631 thyroid nodules, all of which were pathologically confirmed. Ultrasound image sets were employed for analysis. The primary evaluation index was the area under the receiver-operator characteristic curve (AUROC). We compared the diagnostic performance of deep learning (DL) methods with that of radiologists and determined whether DL could enhance the diagnostic capabilities of radiologists., Results: The Xception classification model exhibited the highest performance, achieving an AUROC of up to 0.970, followed by the DenseNet169 model, which attained an AUROC of up to 0.959. Notably, both DL models outperformed radiologists (P < 0.05). The success of the Xception model can be attributed to its incorporation of deep separable convolution, which effectively reduces the model's parameter count. This feature enables the model to capture features more effectively during the feature extraction process, resulting in superior performance, particularly when dealing with limited data., Conclusions: This study conclusively demonstrated that DL outperformed radiologists in differentiating between benign and malignant calcified thyroid nodules. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), as a rapid, non-invasive and reliable spectroscopic detection technique, has promising applications in disease screening and diagnosis. In this paper, an annealed silver nanoparticles/porous silicon Bragg reflector (AgNPs/PSB) composite SERS substrate with high sensitivity and strong stability was prepared by immersion plating and heat treatment using porous silicon Bragg reflector (PSB) as the substrate. The substrate combines the five deep learning algorithms of the improved AlexNet, ResNet, SqueezeNet, temporal convolutional network (TCN) and multiscale fusion convolutional neural network (MCNN). We constructed rapid screening models for patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) and healthy controls (HC), diabetic nephropathy patients (DN) and healthy controls (HC), respectively. The results showed that the annealed AgNPs/PSB composite SERS substrates performed well in diagnosing. Among them, the MCNN model had the best classification effect in the two groups of experiments, with an accuracy rate of 94.7% and 92.0%, respectively. Previous studies have indicated that the AgNPs/PSB composite SERS substrate, combined with machine learning algorithms, has achieved promising classification results in disease diagnosis. This study shows that SERS technology based on annealed AgNPs/PSB composite substrate combined with deep learning algorithm has a greater developmental prospect and research value in the early identification and screening of immune diseases and chronic kidney disease, providing reference ideas for non-invasive and rapid clinical medical diagnosis of patients., (© 2023. Parkinson's disease (PD) diagnosis based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is still challenging clinically. Quantitative susceptibility maps (QSM) can potentially provide underlying pathophysiological information by detecting the iron distribution in deep gray matter (DGM) nuclei. We hypothesized that deep learning (DL) could be used to automatically segment all DGM nuclei and use relevant features for a better differentiation between PD and healthy controls (HC). In this study, we proposed a DL-based pipeline for automatic PD diagnosis based on QSM and T1-weighted (T1W) images. This consists of (1) a convolutional neural network model integrated with multiple attention mechanisms which simultaneously segments caudate nucleus, globus pallidus, putamen, red nucleus, and substantia nigra from QSM and T1W images, and (2) an SE-ResNeXt50 model with an anatomical attention mechanism, which uses QSM data and the segmented nuclei to distinguish PD from HC. The mean dice values for segmentation of the five DGM nuclei are all >0.83 in the internal testing cohort, suggesting that the model could segment brain nuclei accurately. The proposed PD diagnosis model achieved area under the the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) of 0.901 and 0.845 on independent internal and external testing cohorts, respectively. Gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM) heatmaps were used to identify contributing nuclei for PD diagnosis on patient level. Purpose: Liver cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world, ranking fifth in malignant tumors. The degree of differentiation can reflect the degree of malignancy. The degree of malignancy of liver cancer can be divided into three types: poorly differentiated, moderately differentiated, and well differentiated. Diagnosis and treatment of different levels of differentiation are crucial to the survival rate and survival time of patients. As the gold standard for liver cancer diagnosis, histopathological images can accurately distinguish liver cancers of different levels of differentiation. Therefore, the study of intelligent classification of histopathological images is of great significance to patients with liver cancer. At present, the classification of histopathological images of liver cancer with different degrees of differentiation has disadvantages such as time-consuming, labor-intensive, and large manual investment. In this context, the importance of intelligent classification of histopathological images is obvious., Methods: Based on the development of a complete data acquisition scheme, this paper applies the SENet deep learning model to the intelligent classification of all types of differentiated liver cancer histopathological images for the first time, and compares it with the four deep learning models of VGG16, ResNet50, ResNet&#95;CBAM, and SKNet. The evaluation indexes adopted in this paper include confusion matrix, Precision, recall, F1 Score, etc. These evaluation indexes can be used to evaluate the model in a very comprehensive and accurate way., Results: Five different deep learning classification models are applied to collect the data set and evaluate model. The experimental results show that the SENet model has achieved the best classification effect with an accuracy of 95.27%. The model also has good reliability and generalization ability. The experiment proves that the SENet deep learning model has a good application prospect in the intelligent classification of histopathological images., Conclusions: This study also proves that deep learning has great application value in solving the time-consuming and laborious problems existing in traditional manual film reading, and it has certain practical significance for the intelligent classification research of other cancer histopathological images., (© 2022. Elimination of intra-artifacts in EEG has been overlooked in most of the existing sleep staging systems, especially in deep learning-based approaches. Whether intra-artifacts, originated from the eye movement, chin muscle firing, or heart beating, etc., in EEG signals would lead to a positive or a negative masking effect on deep learning-based sleep staging systems was investigated in this paper. We systematically analyzed several traditional pre-processing methods involving fast Independent Component Analysis (FastICA), Information Maximization (Infomax), and Second-order Blind Source Separation (SOBI). On top of these methods, a SOBI-WT method based on the joint use of the SOBI and Wavelet Transform (WT) is proposed. It offered an effective solution for suppressing artifact components while retaining residual informative data. To provide a comprehensive comparative analysis, these pre-processing methods were applied to eliminate the intra-artifacts and the processed signals were fed to two ready-to-use deep learning models, namely two-step hierarchical neural network (THNN) and SimpleSleepNet for automatic sleep staging. The evaluation was performed on two widely used public datasets, Montreal Archive of Sleep Studies (MASS) and Sleep-EDF Expanded, and a clinical dataset that was collected in Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China (HSFU). The proposed SOBI-WT method increased the accuracy from 79.0% to 81.3% on MASS, 83.3% to 85.7% on Sleep-EDF Expanded, and 75.5% to 77.1% on HSFU compared with the raw EEG signal, respectively. Experimental results demonstrate that the intra-artifacts bring out a masking negative impact on the deep learning-based sleep staging systems and the proposed SOBI-WT method has the best performance in diminishing this negative impact compared with other artifact elimination methods.

In recent years, deep learning has been widely used in breast cancer diagnosis, and many high-performance models have emerged. However, most of the existing deep learning models are mainly based on static breast ultrasound (US) images. In actual diagnostic process, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is a commonly used technique by radiologists. Compared with static breast US images, CEUS videos can provide more detailed blood supply information of tumors, and therefore can help radiologists make a more accurate diagnosis. In this paper, we propose a novel diagnosis model based on CEUS videos. The backbone of the model is a 3D convolutional neural network. More specifically, we notice that radiologists generally follow two specific patterns when browsing CEUS videos. One pattern is that they focus on specific time slots, and the other is that they pay attention to the differences between the CEUS frames and the corresponding US images. To incorporate these two patterns into our deep learning model, we design a domain-knowledge-guided temporal attention module and a channel attention module. We validate our model on our Breast-CEUS dataset composed of 221 cases. The result shows that our model can achieve a sensitivity of 97.2% and an accuracy of 86.3%. In particular, the incorporation of domain knowledge leads to a 3.5% improvement in sensitivity and a 6.0% improvement in specificity. Finally, we also prove the validity of two domain knowledge modules in the 3D convolutional neural network (C3D) and the 3D ResNet (R3D).

Accurate pathogenicity prediction of missense variants is critically important in genetic studies and clinical diagnosis. Previously published prediction methods have facilitated the interpretation of missense variants but have limited performance. Here, we describe MVP (Missense Variant Pathogenicity prediction), a new prediction method that uses deep residual network to leverage large training data sets and many correlated predictors. We train the model separately in genes that are intolerant of loss of function variants and the ones that are tolerant in order to take account of potentially different genetic effect size and mode of action. We compile cancer mutation hotspots and de novo variants from developmental disorders for benchmarking. Overall, MVP achieves better performance in prioritizing pathogenic missense variants than previous methods, especially in genes tolerant of loss of function variants. Finally, using MVP, we estimate that de novo coding variants contribute to 7.8% of isolated congenital heart disease, nearly doubling previous estimates.

Protein fold recognition is critical for studying the structures and functions of proteins. The existing protein fold recognition approaches failed to efficiently calculate the pairwise sequence similarity scores of the proteins in the same fold sharing low sequence similarities. Furthermore, the existing feature vectorization strategies are not able to measure the global relationships among proteins from different protein folds. In this article, we proposed a new computational predictor called DeepSVM-fold for protein fold recognition by introducing a new feature vector based on the pairwise sequence similarity scores calculated from the fold-specific features extracted by deep learning networks. The feature vectors are then fed into a support vector machine to construct the predictor. Abstract Objective To construct the deep learning convolution neural network (CNN) model and machine learning support vector machine (SVM) model of bone remodeling of chronic maxillary sinusitis (CMS) based on CT image data to improve the accuracy of image diagnosis. Methods Maxillary sinus CT data of 1000 samples in 500 patients from January 2018 to December 2021 in our hospital was collected. The first part is the establishment and testing of chronic maxillary sinusitis detection model by 461 images. The second part is the establishment and testing of the detection model of chronic maxillary sinusitis with bone remodeling by 802 images. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy and area under the curve (AUC) value of the test set were recorded, respectively. Results Preliminary application results of CT based AI in the diagnosis of chronic maxillary sinusitis and bone remodeling. The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the test set of 93 samples of CMS, were 0.9796, 0.8636 and 0.9247, respectively. Simultaneously, the value of AUC was 0.94. And the sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of the test set of 161 samples of CMS with bone remodeling were 0.7353, 0.9685 and 0.9193, respectively. Simultaneously, the value of AUC was 0.89. Conclusion It is feasible to use artificial intelligence research methods such as deep learning and machine learning to automatically identify CMS and bone remodeling in MSCT images of paranasal sinuses, which is helpful to standardize imaging diagnosis and meet the needs of clinical application.

Abstract A novel framework for adaptive energy management, rooted in deep learning principles, is proposed to minimize fuel consumption in extended‐range electric vehicles amidst intricate driving scenarios. This innovative approach integrates a long short‐term memory (LSTM) network for pattern recognition across three driving patterns and an adaptive fuzzy controller. To mitigate the impact of poor hyperparameter selection on recognition accuracy, Gray Wolf Optimization is employed to optimize the hidden layer nodes, training times, and learning rate of the LSTM. Simultaneously, a genetic algorithm is utilized to optimize the vertex coordinates of the fuzzy control membership function, enabling the adaptive adjustment of parameters in the fuzzy energy management strategy. The condition recognition model accurately identifies the vehicle's driving status and seamlessly transitions to an energy management strategy tailored to the present conditions. This ensures optimal operation, enhancing overall fuel efficiency and performance. The simulation results robustly validate the efficacy of this approach: the GWO‐LSTM network achieves an impressive 97.7% accuracy in recognizing working conditions, surpassing the 88.9% accuracy of the traditional LSTM network. Furthermore, the fuel consumption reduction achieved by the adaptive fuzzy energy management strategy amounts to 11.9% compared with the conventional fuzzy energy management approach. This outcome underscores the tangible enhancement in vehicle fuel economy resulting from the seamless integration of deep learning techniques.

Apricot has a long history of cultivation and has many varieties and types. The traditional variety identification methods are time-consuming and labor-consuming, posing grand challenges to apricot resource management. Tool development in this regard will help researchers quickly identify variety information. This study photographed apricot fruits outdoors and indoors and constructed a dataset that can precisely classify the fruits using a U-net model (F-score: 99%), which helps to obtain the fruit's size, shape, and color features. Meanwhile, a variety search engine was constructed, which can search and identify variety from the database according to the above features. Besides, a mobile and web application (ApricotView) was developed, and the construction mode can be also applied to other varieties of fruit trees. Additionally, we have collected four difficult-to-identify seed datasets and used the VGG16 model for training, with an accuracy of 97%, which provided an important basis for ApricotView. To address the difficulties in data collection bottlenecking apricot phenomics research, we developed the first apricot database platform of its kind (ApricotDIAP, http://apricotdiap.com/) to accumulate, manage, and publicize scientific data of apricot.

Coastal salt marshes play a key role in coastal carbon sequestration. Understanding the spatial distribution and annual changes of carbon storage of salt marsh plants at a local scale is helpful for accurate protection and restoration. However, the annual carbon storage of salt marsh plants has not yet been obtained in the Yellow River Delta National Nature Reserve (YRDNNR), China. Here, we developed a fast and reliable method to produce an annual map of carbon storage of herbaceous salt marsh plants from 2017 to 2022 based on multi-year in situ data and 10-meter resolution Sentinel-2 images in YRDNNR. That is, a deep belief network based on conjugate gradient (CGDBN) pixel-level classification, a generative adversarial network with a constrained factor (GAN-CF) measured sample expansion and multiple linear regression (MLR) quantitative inversion algorithm is used. The results showed that: (1) The carbon storage of herbaceous salt marsh plants in the YRDNNR increased in 2017–2018 and 2019–2021, with an average carbon storage dynamic of 4.53–8.39 Mg/ha. (2) In 2021, the area of salt marsh vegetation increased significantly by 20 % compared to 2017. Although its area decreased sharply due to the removal of invasive species (S. alterniflora) in 2022, the carbon storage per unit area of salt marsh plants remained at 7.77 Mg/ha. (3) The carbon storage of salt marsh vegetation showed a gradient change along the community succession from land to sea. Estimating annual carbon storage of salt marsh plants could provide basic data for recognizing the ‘blue carbon’ contribution of coastal plants and managing the coastal salt marsh ecosystem in Yellow River Delta.

Accurate and timely flood forecasting, facilitated by remote sensing technology, is crucial to mitigate the damage and loss of life caused by floods. However, despite years of research, accurate flood prediction still faces numerous challenges, including complex spatiotemporal features and varied flood patterns influenced by multiple variables. Moreover, long-term flood forecasting is always tricky due to the constantly changing conditions of the surrounding environment. In this study, we propose a heterogeneous dynamic temporal graph convolutional network (HD-TGCN) for flood forecasting. Specifically, we designed a dynamic temporal graph convolution module (D-TGCM) to generate a dynamic adjacency matrix by incorporating a multihead self-attention mechanism, enabling our model to capture the dynamic spatiotemporal features of flood data by utilizing temporal graph convolution operations on the dynamic matrix. Furthermore, to reflect the impact of multiple meteorological and hydrological features on the heterogeneity of flood data, we propose a novel approach that utilizes multiple parallel D-TGCMs for processing heterogeneous graph data and implements a fusion mechanism to capture varied flood patterns influenced by multiple variables. Experiments conducted on a real dataset in Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province, demonstrate that the HD-TGCN outperforms the state-of-the-art flood prediction models in mean absolute error, Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency, and root-mean-square error, with improvements of 80.32%, 0.15%, and 73.99%, respectively, providing a more accurate flood forecasting method that will play a critical role in future flood disaster prevention and control.

To maintain a harmonious teacher-student relationship and enable educators to gain a more insightful understanding of students’ learning progress, this study collects data from learners utilizing the software through a network platform. These data are mainly formed by the user’s learning characteristics, combined with the screen lighting time, built-in inertial sensor attitude, signal strength, network strength and other multi-dimensional characteristics to form the learning observation value, so as to analyze the corresponding learning state, so that teachers can carry out targeted teaching improvement. The article introduces an intelligent classification approach for learning time series, leveraging long short-term memory (LSTM) as the foundation of a deep network model. This model intelligently recognizes the learning status of students. The test results demonstrate that the proposed model achieves highly precise time series recognition using relatively straightforward features. This precision, exceeding 95%, is of significant importance for future applications in learning state recognition, aiding teachers in gaining an intelligent grasp of students’ learning status.

Fire incidents near power transmission lines pose significant safety hazards to the regular operation of the power system. Therefore, achieving fast and accurate smoke detection around power transmission lines is crucial. Due to the complexity and variability of smoke scenarios, existing smoke detection models suffer from low detection accuracy and slow detection speed. This paper proposes an improved model for smoke detection in high-voltage power transmission lines based on the improved YOLOv7-tiny. First, we construct a dataset for smoke detection in high-voltage power transmission lines. Due to the limited number of real samples, we employ a particle system to randomly generate smoke and composite it into randomly selected real scenes, effectively expanding the dataset with high quality. Next, we introduce multiple parameter-free attention modules into the YOLOv7-tiny model and replace regular convolutions in the Neck of the model with Spd-Conv (Space-to-depth Conv) to improve detection accuracy and speed. Finally, we utilize the synthesized smoke dataset as the source domain for model transfer learning. We pre-train the improved model and fine-tune it on a dataset consisting of real scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed improved YOLOv7-tiny model achieves a 2.61% increase in mean Average Precision (mAP) for smoke detection on power transmission lines compared to the original model. The precision is improved by 2.26%, and the recall is improved by 7.25%. Compared to other object detection models, the smoke detection proposed in this paper achieves high detection accuracy and speed. Our model also improved detection accuracy on the already publicly available wildfire smoke dataset Figlib (Fire Ignition Library).

IntroduceAnkylosing spondylitis (AS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and osteoarthritis (OA) are three rheumatic immune diseases with many common characteristics. If left untreated, they can lead to joint destruction and functional limitation, and in severe cases, they can cause lifelong disability and even death. Studies have shown that early diagnosis and treatment are key to improving patient outcomes. Therefore, a rapid and accurate method for rapid diagnosis of diseases has been established, which is of great clinical significance for realizing early diagnosis of diseases and improving patient prognosis.MethodsThis study was based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) combined with a deep learning model to achieve non-invasive, rapid, and accurate differentiation of AS, RA, OA, and healthy control group. In the experiment, 320 serum samples were collected, 80 in each group. AlexNet, ResNet, MSCNN, and MSResNet diagnostic models were established by using a machine learning algorithm.ResultThe range of spectral wave number measured by four sets of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy is 700-4000 cm-1. Serum spectral characteristic peaks were mainly at 1641 cm-1(amide I), 1542 cm-1(amide II), 3280 cm-1(amide A), 1420 cm-1(proline and tryptophan), 1245 cm-1(amide III), 1078 cm-1(carbohydrate region). And 2940 cm-1 (mainly fatty acids and cholesterol). At the same time, AlexNet, ResNet, MSCNN, and MSResNet diagnostic models are established by using machine learning algorithms. The multi-scale MSResNet classification model combined with residual blocks can use convolution modules of different scales to extract different scale features and use resblocks to solve the problem of network degradation, reduce the interference of spectral measurement noise, and enhance the generalization ability of the network model. By comparing the experimental results of the other three models AlexNet, ResNet, and MSCNN, it is found that the MSResNet model has the best diagnostic performance and the accuracy rate is 0.87.ConclusionThe results prove the feasibility of serum Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy combined with a deep learning algorithm to distinguish AS, RA, OA, and healthy control group, which can be used as an effective auxiliary diagnostic method for these rheumatic immune diseases.

High-voltage transmission lines are located far from the road, resulting in inconvenient inspection work and rising maintenance costs. Intelligent inspection of power transmission lines has become increasingly important. However, subsequent intelligent inspection relies on accurately detecting various key components. Due to the low detection accuracy of key components in transmission line image inspection, this paper proposed an improved object detection model based on the YOLOv5s (You Only Look Once Version 5 Small) model to improve the detection accuracy of key components of transmission lines. According to the characteristics of the power grid inspection image, we first modify the distance measurement in the k-means clustering to improve the anchor matching of the YOLOv5s model. Then, we add the convolutional block attention module (CBAM) attention mechanism to the backbone network to improve accuracy. Finally, we apply the focal loss function to reduce the impact of class imbalance. Our improved method's mAP (mean average precision) reached 98.1%, the precision reached 97.5%, the recall reached 94.4% and the detection rate reached 84.8 FPS (frames per second). The experimental results show that our improved model improves the detection accuracy and has advantages over other models in performance.

Background: Both calcification and colloid in thyroid nodules are reflected as echogenic foci in ultrasound images. However, calcification and colloid have significantly different probabilities of malignancy. We explored the performance of a deep learning (DL) model in distinguishing the echogenic foci of thyroid nodules as calcification or colloid. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study using ultrasound image sets. The DL model was trained and tested on 30,388 images of 1127 nodules. All nodules were pathologically confirmed. The area under the receiver-operator characteristic curve (AUC) was employed as the primary evaluation index. Results: The YoloV5 (You Only Look Once Version 5) transfer learning model for thyroid nodules based on DL detection showed that the average sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of distinguishing echogenic foci in the test 1 group (n = 192) was 78.41%, 91.36%, and 77.81%, respectively. The average sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the three radiologists were 51.14%, 82.58%, and 61.29%, respectively. The average sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of distinguishing small echogenic foci in the test 2 group (n = 58) was 70.17%, 77.14%, and 73.33%, respectively. Correspondingly, the average sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the radiologists were 57.69%, 63.29%, and 59.38%. Conclusions: The study demonstrated that DL performed far better than radiologists in distinguishing echogenic foci of thyroid nodules as calcifications or colloid.

Sleep staging is the essential step in sleep quality assessment and sleep disorders diagnosis. However, most current automatic sleep staging approaches use recurrent neural networks (RNN), resulting in a relatively large training burden. Moreover, these methods only extract information of the whole epoch or adjacent epochs, ignoring the local signal variations within epoch. To address these issues, a novel deep learning architecture named segmented attention network (SAN) is proposed in this paper. The architecture can be divided into feature extraction (FE) and time sequence encoder (TSE). The FE module consists of multiple multiscale CNN (MMCNN) and residual squeeze and excitation block (SE block). The former extracts features from multiple equal-length EEG segments and the latter reinforced the features. The TSE module based on a multi-head attention mechanism could capture the temporal information in the features extracted by FE module. Noteworthy, in SAN, we replaced the RNN module with a TSE module for temporal learning and made the network faster. The evaluation of the model was performed on two widely used public datasets, Montreal Archive of Sleep Studies (MASS) and Sleep-EDFX, and one clinical dataset from Huashan Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China (HSFU). The proposed model achieved the accuracy of 85.5%, 86.4%, 82.5% on Sleep-EDFX, MASS and HSFU, respectively. The experimental results exhibited favorable performance and consistent improvements of SAN on different datasets in comparison with the state-of-the-art studies. It also proved the necessity of sleep staging by integrating the local characteristics within epochs and adjacent informative features among epochs.

Summary: Background: Radiotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Radiation-induced temporal lobe injury (TLI) can regress or resolve in the early phase, but it is irreversible at a later stage. However, no study has proposed a risk-based follow-up schedule for its early detection. Planning evaluation is difficult when dose-volume histogram (DVH) parameters are similar and optimization is terminated. Methods: This multicenter retrospective study included 6065 patients between 2014 and 2018. A 3D ResNet-based deep learning model was developed in training and validation cohorts and independently tested using concordance index in internal and external test cohorts. Accordingly, the patients were stratified into risk groups, and the model-predicted risks were used to develop risk-based follow-up schedules. The schedule was compared with the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) recommendation (every 3 months during the first 2 years and every 6 months in 3–5 years). Additionally, the model was used to evaluate plans with similar DVH parameters. Objective: For several years, computer technology has been utilized to diagnose lung nodules. When compared to traditional machine learning methods for image processing, deep-learning methods can improve the accuracy of lung nodule diagnosis by avoiding the laborious pre-processing step of the picture (extraction of fake features, etc.). Our goal is to investigate how well deep-learning approaches classify lung nodule malignancy. Method: We evaluated the performance of deep-learning methods on lung nodule malignancy classification via a systematic literature search. We conducted searches for appropriate articles in the PubMed and ISI Web of Science databases and chose those that employed deep learning to classify or predict lung nodule malignancy for our investigation. The figures were plotted, and the data were extracted using SAS version 9.4 and Microsoft Excel 2010, respectively. Results: Sixteen studies that met the criteria were included in this study. The articles classified or predicted pulmonary nodule malignancy using classification and summarization, using convolutional neural network (CNN), autoencoder (AE), and deep belief network (DBN). The AUC of deep-learning models is typically greater than 90% in articles. It demonstrated that deep learning performed well in the diagnosis and forecasting of lung nodules. Conclusion: It is a thorough analysis of the most recent advancements in lung nodule deep-learning technologies. The advancement of image processing techniques, traditional machine learning techniques, deep-learning techniques, and other techniques have all been applied to the technology for pulmonary nodule diagnosis. Although the deep-learning model has demonstrated distinct advantages in the detection of pulmonary nodules, it also carries significant drawbacks that warrant additional research.

Deep sleep staging networks have reached top performance on large-scale datasets. However, these models perform poorer when training and testing on small sleep cohorts due to data inefficiency. Transferring well-trained models from large-scale datasets (source domain) to small sleep cohorts (target domain) is a promising solution but still remains challenging due to the domain-shift issue. In this work, an unsupervised domain adaptation approach, domain statistics alignment (DSA), is developed to bridge the gap between the data distribution of source and target domains. DSA adapts the source models on the target domain by modulating the domain-specific statistics of deep features stored in the Batch Normalization (BN) layers. Furthermore, we have extended DSA by introducing cross-domain statistics in each BN layer to perform DSA adaptively (AdaDSA). The proposed methods merely need the well-trained source model without access to the source data, which may be proprietary and inaccessible. DSA and AdaDSA are universally applicable to various deep sleep staging networks that have BN layers. We have validated the proposed methods by extensive experiments on two state-of-the-art deep sleep staging networks, DeepSleepNet+ and U-time. The performance was evaluated by conducting various transfer tasks on six sleep databases, including two large-scale databases, MASS and SHHS, as the source domain, four small sleep databases as the target domain. Thereinto, clinical sleep records acquired in Huashan Hospital, Shanghai, were used. The results show that both DSA and AdaDSA could significantly improve the performance of source models on target domains, providing novel insights into the domain generalization problem in sleep staging tasks.

Objectives: The transforaminal and interlaminar approaches are the two main surgical corridors of full endoscopic lumbar surgery. However, there are no quantifying methods for assessing the best surgical approach for each patient. This study aimed to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) model using an artificial neural network (ANN). Materials and Methods: Patients who underwent full endoscopic lumbar spinal surgery were enrolled in this research. Fourteen pre-operative factors were fed into the ANN. A three-layer deep neural network was constructed. Patient data were divided into the training, validation, and testing datasets. Results: There were 899 patients enrolled. The accuracy of the training, validation, and test datasets were 87.3%, 85.5%, and 85.0%, respectively. The positive predictive values for the transforaminal and interlaminar approaches were 85.1% and 89.1%, respectively. The area under the curve of the receiver operating characteristic was 0.91. The SHapley Additive exPlanations algorithm was utilized to explain the relative importance of each factor. The surgical lumbar level was the most important factor, followed by herniated disc localization and migrating disc zone level. Conclusion: ANN can effectively learn from the choice of an experienced spinal endoscopic surgeon and can accurately predict the appropriate surgical approach.

In this paper, a novel two-dimensional (2D) generalized optical spatial modulation (GOSM) scheme is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output optical wireless communication (MIMO-OWC) systems. By grouping multiple successive time slots as one time block, 2D GOSM mapping can be performed not only in the space domain but also in the time domain. Specifically, two types of 2D GOSM mapping schemes are designed, including 2D-1 and 2D-2 GOSM mappings. Moreover, to address the high complexity issue of optimal joint maximum-likelihood (ML) detection and the noise amplification and error propagation issues of zero-forcing-based ML (ZF-ML) detection, a deep neural network (DNN)-aided detection scheme is further designed for 2D GOSM systems. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed 2D GOSM scheme with deep learning-aided detection for high-speed and low-complexity MIMO-OWC systems. More specifically, a remarkable 3.4-dB signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) gain can be achieved by 2D GOSM in comparison to the conventional one-dimensional (1D) GOSM, when applying the DNN-aided detection.

Training deep learning models for vision-based monitoring of construction sites usually requires a large amount of labeled data. Semisupervised learning methods can efficiently obtain unlabeled data with substantial cost savings. Thus, this paper proposes a semisupervised object detection method for construction site monitoring. Weather as well as strong and weak data augmentation are integrated to cope with the complex construction site conditions (weather changes, camera view shifts, and so on) by integrating semisupervised learning to leverage the valid information in unlabeled construction site images. To validate its effectiveness, the proposed method was tested on the Alberta Construction Image Data Set (ACID), a public data set for the construction research community. The experimental results revealed that the proposed method achieves an average accuracy [mean average precision (mAP)] of 81.1% when trained on only 3% of the labeled images. A novel framework for adaptive energy management, rooted in deep learning principles, is proposed to minimize fuel consumption in extended‐range electric vehicles amidst intricate driving scenarios. This innovative approach integrates a long short‐term memory (LSTM) network for pattern recognition across three driving patterns and an adaptive fuzzy controller. To mitigate the impact of poor hyperparameter selection on recognition accuracy, Gray Wolf Optimization is employed to optimize the hidden layer nodes, training times, and learning rate of the LSTM. Simultaneously, a genetic algorithm is utilized to optimize the vertex coordinates of the fuzzy control membership function, enabling the adaptive adjustment of parameters in the fuzzy energy management strategy. The condition recognition model accurately identifies the vehicle's driving status and seamlessly transitions to an energy management strategy tailored to the present conditions. This ensures optimal operation, enhancing overall fuel efficiency and performance. The simulation results robustly validate the efficacy of this approach: the GWO‐LSTM network achieves an impressive 97.7% accuracy in recognizing working conditions, surpassing the 88.9% accuracy of the traditional LSTM network. Furthermore, the fuel consumption reduction achieved by the adaptive fuzzy energy management strategy amounts to 11.9% compared with the conventional fuzzy energy management approach. Focusing on the low accuracy and timeliness of traditional fault diagnosis methods for rolling bearings which combine massive amounts of data, a fault diagnosis method for rolling bearings based on Gramian angular field (GAF) coding technology and an improved ResNet50 model is proposed. Using the Graham angle field technology to recode the one-dimensional vibration signal into a two-dimensional feature image, using the two-dimensional feature image as the input for the model, combined with the advantages of the ResNet algorithm in image feature extraction and classification recognition, we realized automatic feature extraction and fault diagnosis, and, finally, achieved the classification of different fault types. In order to verify the effectiveness of the method, the rolling bearing data of Casey Reserve University are selected for verification, and compared with other commonly used intelligent algorithms, the results show that the proposed method has a higher classification accuracy and better timeliness than other intelligent algorithms.

Sleep, as the basis for regular body functioning, can affect human health. Poor sleep conditions can lead to various physical ailments, such as poor immunity, memory loss, slow cognitive development, and cardiovascular diseases. Along the increasing stress in society comes with a growing surge in conditions associated with sleep disorders. Studies have shown that sleep stages are essential for the body’s memory, immune system, and brain functioning. Therefore, automatic sleep stage classification is of great medical practice importance as a basis for monitoring sleep conditions. Although previous research into the classification of sleep stages has been promising, several challenges remain to be addressed: (1) The EEG signal is a non-smooth signal with harrowing feature extraction and high requirements for model accuracy. (2) Some existing network models suffer from overfitting and gradient descent. (3) Correlation between long time sequences is challenging to capture. This paper proposes NAMRTNet, a deep model architecture based on the original single-channel EEG signal to address these challenges. The model uses a modified ResNet network to extract features from sub-epochs of individual epochs, a lightweight attention mechanism normalization-based attention module (NAM) to suppress insignificant features, and a temporal convolutional network (TCN) network to capture dependencies between features of long time series. The recognition rate of 20-fold cross-validation with the NAMRTNet model for Fpz-cz channel data in the public sleep dataset Sleep-EDF was 86.2%. The experimental results demonstrate the network’s superiority in this paper, surpassing some state-of-the-art techniques in different evaluation metrics. Furthermore, the total time to train the network was 5.1 h, which was much less than the training time of other models.

The influence of the coupled electroencephalography (EEG) signal in electrooculography (EOG) on EOG-based automatic sleep staging has been ignored. Since the EOG and prefrontal EEG are collected at close range, it is not clear whether EEG couples in EOG or not, and whether or not the EOG signal can achieve good sleep staging results due to its intrinsic characteristics. In this paper, the effect of a coupled EEG signal in an EOG signal on automatic sleep staging is explored. The blind source separation algorithm was used to extract a clean prefrontal EEG signal. Then the raw EOG signal and clean prefrontal EEG signal were processed to obtain EOG signals coupled with different EEG signal contents. Afterwards, the coupled EOG signals were fed into a hierarchical neural network, including a convolutional neural network and recurrent neural network for automatic sleep staging. Finally, an exploration was performed using two public datasets and one clinical dataset. The results showed that using a coupled EOG signal could achieve an accuracy of 80.4%, 81.1%, and 78.9% for the three datasets, slightly better than the accuracy of sleep staging using the EOG signal without coupled EEG. Thus, an appropriate content of coupled EEG signal in an EOG signal improved the sleep staging results. This paper provides an experimental basis for sleep staging with EOG signals.

At present, the explosive growth of software code volume and quantity makes the code review process very labor-intensive and time-consuming. An automated code review model can assist in improving the efficiency of the process. Tufano et al., designed two automated tasks to help improve the efficiency of code review based on the deep learning approach, from two different perspectives, namely, the developer submitting the code and the code reviewer. However, they only used code sequence information and did not explore the logical structure information with a richer meaning of the code. To improve the learning of code structure information, a program dependency graph serialization algorithm PDG2Seq algorithm is proposed, which converts the program dependency graph into a unique graph code sequence in a lossless manner, while retaining the program structure information and semantic information. We then designed an automated code review model based on the pre-trained model CodeBERT architecture, which strengthens the learning of code information by fusing program structure information and code sequence information, and then fine-tuned the model according to the code review activity scene to complete the automatic modification of the code. To verify the efficiency of the algorithm, the two tasks in the experiment were compared with the best Algorithm 1-encoder/2-encoder. The experimental results show that the model we proposed has a significant improvement under the BLEU, Lewinshtein distance and ROUGE-L metrics.

Generalized optical multiple-input multiple-output (GOMIMO) techniques have been recently shown to be promising for high-speed optical wireless communication (OWC) systems. In this paper, we propose a novel deep learning-aided GOMIMO (DeepGOMIMO) framework for GOMIMO systems, wherein channel state information (CSI)-free detection can be enabled by employing a specially designed deep neural network (DNN)-based MIMO detector. The CSI-free DNN detector mainly consists of two modules: one is the preprocessing module, which is designed to address both the path loss and channel crosstalk issues caused by MIMO transmission, and the other is the feedforward DNN module, which is used for joint detection of spatial and constellation information by learning the statistics of both the input signal and the additive noise. Our simulation results clearly verify that, in a typical indoor 4 × 4 MIMO-OWC system using both generalized optical spatial modulation (GOSM) and generalized optical spatial multiplexing (GOSMP) with unipolar nonzero 4-level pulse-amplitude modulation (4-PAM) modulation, the proposed CSI-free DNN detector achieves near the same bit error rate (BER) performance as the optimal joint maximum-likelihood (ML) detector, but with much-reduced computational complexity. Moreover, because the CSI-free DNN detector does not require instantaneous channel estimation to obtain accurate CSI, it enjoys the unique advantages of improved achievable data rate and reduced communication time delay in comparison to the CSI-based zero-forcing DNN (ZF-DNN) detector.

Water conservancy personnel usually need to know the water level by water gauge images in real-time and with an expected accuracy. However, accurately recognizing the water level from water gauge images is still a complex problem. This article proposes a composite method applied in the Wuyuan City, Jiangxi Province, in China. This method can detect water gauge areas and number areas from complex and changeable scenes, accurately detect the water level line from various water gauges, and finally, obtain the accurate water level value. Firstly, FCOS is improved by fusing a contextual adjustment module to meet the requirements of edge computing and ensure considerable detection accuracy. Secondly, to deal with scenes with indistinct water level features, we also apply the contextual adjustment module for Deeplabv3+ to segment the water gauge area above the water surface. Then, the area can be used to obtain the position of the water level line. Finally, the results of the previous two steps are combined to calculate the water level value. Detailed experiments prove that this method solves the problem of water level recognition in complex hydrological scenes. Furthermore, the recognition error of the water level by this method is less than 1 cm, proving it is capable of being applied in real river scenes.

Indoor positioning plays a crucial role in various domains. It is employed in various applications, such as navigation, asset tracking, and location-based services (LBS), in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) denied or degraded areas. The visual-based positioning technique is a promising solution for high-accuracy indoor positioning. However, most visual positioning research uses the side-view perspective, which is susceptible to interferences and may cause concerns about privacy and public security. Therefore, this paper innovatively proposes an up-view visual-based indoor positioning algorithm. It uses the up-view images to realize indoor positioning. Firstly, we utilize a well-trained YOLO V7 model to realize landmark detection and gross extraction. Then, we use edge detection operators to realize the precision landmark extraction, obtaining the landmark pixel size. The target position is calculated based on the landmark detection and extraction results and the pre-labeled landmark sequence via the Similar Triangle Principle. Additionally, we also propose an inertial navigation system (INS)-based landmark matching method to match the landmark within an up-view image with a landmark in the pre-labeled landmark sequence. This is necessary for kinematic indoor positioning. Finally, we conduct static and kinematic experiments to verify the feasibility and performance of the up-view-based indoor positioning method. Background: This study aimed to apply the backpropagation neural network (BPNN) to develop a model for predicting multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) infection in critically ill patients. Methods: This study collected patient information admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from August 2021 to January 2022. All patients enrolled were divided randomly into a training set (80%) and a test set (20%). The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and stepwise regression analysis were used to determine the independent risk factors for MDRO infection. A BPNN model was constructed based on these factors. Then, we externally validated this model in patients from May 2022 to July 2022 over the same center. The model performance was evaluated by the calibration curve, the area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy. Results: In the primary cohort, 688 patients were enrolled, including 109 (15.84%) MDRO infection patients. Risk factors for MDRO infection, as determined by the primary cohort, included length of hospitalization, length of ICU stay, long-term bed rest, antibiotics use before ICU, acute physiology and chronic health evaluation II, invasive operation before ICU, quantity of antibiotics, chronic lung disease, and hypoproteinemia. There were 238 patients in the validation set, including 31 (13.03%) MDRO infection patients. This BPNN model yielded good calibration. The AUC of the training set, the test set and the validation set were 0.889 (95% CI 0.852–0.925), 0.919 (95% CI 0.856–0.983), and 0.811 (95% CI 0.731–0.891), respectively. Conclusions: This study confirmed nine independent risk factors for MDRO infection. The BPNN model performed well and was potentially used to predict MDRO infection in ICU patients. Objective: For several years, computer technology has been utilized to diagnose lung nodules. When compared to traditional machine learning methods for image processing, deep-learning methods can improve the accuracy of lung nodule diagnosis by avoiding the laborious pre-processing step of the picture (extraction of fake features, etc.). Our goal is to investigate how well deep-learning approaches classify lung nodule malignancy. Method: We evaluated the performance of deep-learning methods on lung nodule malignancy classification via a systematic literature search. We conducted searches for appropriate articles in the PubMed and ISI Web of Science databases and chose those that employed deep learning to classify or predict lung nodule malignancy for our investigation. The figures were plotted, and the data were extracted using SAS version 9.4 and Microsoft Excel 2010, respectively. Results: Sixteen studies that met the criteria were included in this study. The articles classified or predicted pulmonary nodule malignancy using classification and summarization, using convolutional neural network (CNN), autoencoder (AE), and deep belief network (DBN). The AUC of deep-learning models is typically greater than 90% in articles. It demonstrated that deep learning performed well in the diagnosis and forecasting of lung nodules. Conclusion: It is a thorough analysis of the most recent advancements in lung nodule deep-learning technologies. The advancement of image processing techniques, traditional machine learning techniques, deep-learning techniques, and other techniques have all been applied to the technology for pulmonary nodule diagnosis. Online health question-and-answer platforms (OHQPs), where patients post health-related questions, evaluate advice from multiple doctors and select their most preferred answer, are a prominent channel for patients to receive medical advice in China. They are gaining traction globally and have the potential to circumvent resource-based, geographic, or circumstantial barriers that limit access to care. At the same time, they are underregulated in contrast to brick-and-mortar points of care. Ours is the first study to evaluate the quality of healthcare advice promoted by these platforms and to provide insight into how patients respond to advice. We found that, though advice is generally good, patients cannot discern good advice from bad, choose poor advice (when offered) as often as good advice, and do so to a greater extent in vulnerable categories such as pediatrics, cancers/tumors, and internal medicine. Moreover, we found that OHQPs exacerbate care avoidance. Our findings suggest that platform owners and policymakers should ensure that signals of expert consensus are provided to patients to better assist their choices on OHQPs. We also unveiled bad actors on OHQPs, including drug promoters and spammers, indicating that stronger oversight and accountability mechanisms are needed. Online health question-and-answer (Q&A) platforms (OHQPs), where patients post health-related questions, evaluate advice from multiple doctors, and direct a bounty (monetary reward) to their most preferred answer, have become a prominent channel for patients to receive medical advice in China. To explore the quality of medical advice on these platforms, we analyzed data on patients' evaluation of ∼497,000 answers to ∼114,000 questions on one of the most popular OHQPs, 120ask.com, over a three-month period. We assembled a panel of independent physicians and instructed them to evaluate the quality of ∼13,000 answers. We found that the quality of medical advice offered on the platform was high on average, and that low-quality answers were rare (6%). However, our results also indicate that patients lacked the ability to discriminate advice quality. They were as likely to choose the best answer as the worst. The medical accuracy of patient evaluation was worse in critical categories (cancer, internal medicine) and for vulnerable subpopulations (pediatrics). Given that millions of patients seek medical advice from OHQPs in China annually, the social and economic implications of this finding are troubling. To understand how patients evaluate advice, we trained deep neural networks to think like patients, allowing us to identify patients' positive and negative responses to different heurist cues. Although our results indicate that OHQPs perform well, we identified several concerns that should be addressed through platform design and policy changes. Because the Q&A process lacks peer review mechanisms, signals of advice quality are not conveyed to patients, forcing them to rely on heuristic cues, which cannot effectively guide them toward the best advice. We also found that the platform reputation metric was not correlated with the quality of the advice giver's advice, may effectively encourage patients to select lesser quality medical advice, and increased the risk of moral hazard for malicious players to intentionally provide less accurate but more agreeable advice for personal gain. Our analysis revealed bad actors on the platform, including drug promoters and spammers. Finally, we found that OHQPs exacerbated care avoidance. The evolution of deep learning has promoted the performance of finger vein verification systems, but also brings some new issues to be resolved, including high computational burden, massive training sample demand, as well as the adaptability and generalization to various image acquisition equipment, etc. In this paper, we propose a novel and lightweight network architecture for finger vein verification, which was constructed based on a Siamese framework and embedded with a pair of eight-layer tiny ResNets as the backbone branch network. Therefore, it can maintain good verification accuracy under the circumstance of a small-scale training set. Moreover, to further reduce the number of parameters, Gabor orientation filters (GoFs) were introduced to modulate the conventional convolutional kernels, so that fewer convolutional kernels were required in the subsequent Gabor modulation, and multi-scale and orientation-insensitive kernels can be obtained simultaneously. The proposed Siamese network framework (Siamese Gabor residual network (SGRN)) embeds two parameter-sharing Gabor residual subnetworks (GRNs) for contrastive learning; the inputs are paired image samples (a reference image with a positive/negative image), and the outputs are the probabilities for accepting or rejecting. The subject-independent experiments were performed on two benchmark finger vein datasets, and the experimental results revealed that the proposed SGRN model can enhance inter-class discrepancy and intra-class similarity. Compared with some existing deep network models that have been applied to finger vein verification, our proposed SGRN achieved an ACC of 99.74 % and an EER of 0.50 % on the FV-USM dataset and an ACC of 99.55 % and an EER of 0.52 % on the MMCBNU_6000 dataset. In addition, the SGRN has smaller model parameters with only 0.21 × 10 6 Params and 1.92 × 10 6 FLOPs, outperforming some state-of-the-art FV verification models; therefore, it better facilitates the application of real-time finger vein verification. We investigated the determinants of absenteeism in the Principles of Microeconomics at a rural state university in Pennsylvania. We apply Poisson statistics and a negative binomial of both Type 1 and 2 models to estimate absenteeism behavior. All cases have GPA as a significant factor. A higher GPA reduces the absence rate by 3.2574 times in the NB1 model. It was found that business majors cut classes significantly less (26.24%) than education majors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Focusing on the low accuracy and timeliness of traditional fault diagnosis methods for rolling bearings which combine massive amounts of data, a fault diagnosis method for rolling bearings based on Gramian angular field (GAF) coding technology and an improved ResNet50 model is proposed. Using the Graham angle field technology to recode the one-dimensional vibration signal into a two-dimensional feature image, using the two-dimensional feature image as the input for the model, combined with the advantages of the ResNet algorithm in image feature extraction and classification recognition, we realized automatic feature extraction and fault diagnosis, and, finally, achieved the classification of different fault types. In order to verify the effectiveness of the method, the rolling bearing data of Casey Reserve University are selected for verification, and compared with other commonly used intelligent algorithms, the results show that the proposed method has a higher classification accuracy and better timeliness than other intelligent algorithms.
