Considering the total number of citations as the sole indicator of a research paper’s success is not always correct. Furthermore, considering the total number of reads (downloads, views, and usage) is not always correct either. Therefore, this paper proposes a new measure called paper impact effectiveness (PIE) that combines both indicators to evaluate the impact of research papers in order to provide a more realistic and fair indicator. Therefore, the total number of downloads for the most popular papers, selected from a single journal, in addition to total citations from Google Scholar were obtained to prove this paper’s argument. Scientific literature is published at a rate that makes manual data extraction a highly time-consuming task. The Comprehensive Antibiotic Resistance Database (CARD) utilizes literature to curate information on antimicrobial resistance genes and to enable time-efficient triage of publications we have developed a classification algorithm for identifying publications describing first reports of new resistance genes. Trained on publications contained in the CARD, CARD*Shark downloads, processes and identifies publications recently added to PubMed that should be reviewed by biocurators. With CARD*Shark, we can minimize the monthly scope of articles a biocurator reviews from hundreds of articles to a few dozen, drastically improving the speed of curation while ensuring no relevant publications are overlooked. Conservation agriculture (CA) is a set of principles thought to be able to enhance crop productivity while minimizing impacts on the environment. The evidence base for CA can be challenging to synthesize because it encompasses many different practices and social and agroecological outcomes. To facilitate synthesis of CA evidence we have created a dataset organizing 218 response variables from five common categories of CA: cover crops, tillage management, pest management, nutrient management, and crop diversification. These data cover the Midwestern United States (U.S.) from 1980–2020. The dataset is also summarized and visualized on the AgEvidence website, which enables users to interactively explore, filter, and download data. We hope this dataset will help a wide variety of stakeholders, including researchers, policy makers, advocacy groups, and growers access the evidence needed to make informed and impactful decisions about how to produce food with less negative environmental impact. Scientific data are essential to advancing scientific knowledge and are increasingly valued as scholarly output. Understanding what drives dataset downloads is crucial for their effective dissemination and reuse. Our study, analysing 55,473 datasets from 69 data repositories, identifies key factors driving dataset downloads, focusing on interpretability, reliability, and accessibility. We find that while lengthy descriptive texts can deter users due to complexity and time requirements, readability boosts a dataset's appeal. Reliability, evidenced by factors like institutional reputation and citation counts of related papers, also significantly increases a dataset's attractiveness and usage. Additionally, our research shows that open access to datasets increases their downloads and amplifies the importance of interpretability and reliability. This indicates that easy access enhances the overall attractiveness and usage of datasets in the scholarly community. By emphasizing interpretability, reliability, and accessibility, this study offers a comprehensive framework for future research and guides data management practices toward ensuring clarity, credibility, and open access to maximize the impact of scientific datasets. This paper presents the Archaeological Artefact Database of Finland (AADA) of prehistoric (covering period of almost 11,000 years) artefacts in Finland that are categorised by type and are accompanied with photos of the artefacts. The database is intended to contain all typologically classifiable prehistoric artefacts found in Finland and held in Finnish collections. This dataset provides spatio-temporal context for artefacts across different time periods and regions, as it includes approximately 38,000 single artefacts and approximately 10,000 pottery type identifications from the Early Mesolithic to the end of the Iron Age in Finland (c. 8900 calBC - 1300/1500 calAD). In addition, the artefacts are given period-based (subperiod) dating to allow their chronological affiliation. To facilitate data usage, we also offer an R-script to replicate the data visualisation provided in this paper and a Python script to merge the artefact information to the pictures. The scientific knowledge is disseminated by research papers. Most of the research literature is copyrighted by publishers and avail- able only through paywalls. Recently, some websites offer most of the recent content for free. One of them is the controversial website Sci-Hub that enables access to more than 47 million pirated research papers. In April 2016, Science Magazine published an article on Sci-Hub activity over the period of six months and publicly released the Sci-Hub's server log data. The mentioned paper aggregates the view that relies on all downloads and for all fields of study, but these findings might be hiding interesting patterns within computer science. The mentioned Sci-Hub log data was used in this paper to analyse downloads of computer science papers based on DBLP's list of computer science publications. The top downloads of computer science papers were analysed, together with the geographical location of Sci-Hub users, the most downloaded publishers, types of papers downloaded, and downloads of computer science papers per publication year. Vehicular caching (VC) in electro‐mobility networks has become promising for supporting the needs of low end‐to‐end service delays and reducing the load of networks (i.e. edge caching [EC]) for content delivery service. However, since VCs are available only when they are in the vicinity of the user, intermittent connectivity should be considered. In this paper, the opportunistic offloading scheme for content delivery service is proposed, and a decision is made regarding whether to use VC or EC for the content delivery service. In the proposed scheme, when VC is not available, the user determines whether to choose VC or EC for the content download. If VC is chosen, the user delays the content download to increase the VC utilization according to the expectation of VC contacts. This results in the delayed service completion but can reduce the EC load (i.e. offloading gain). If EC is chosen, the user can download the content without any delay or service interruption. To find the optimal policy, this paper formulates a Markov decision process (MDP) problem and uses the value iteration algorithm to solve the problem. In an age of burgeoning open data sources, ranging from authoritative platforms to crowd-sourced contributions, the need for data integration is paramount - only with integrated, combined, data can today's complex problems be addressed. However, assessing the quality of data and its potential for integration/interoperability is complex. FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable and re-useable) approaches go some way to help, but most repositories still only offer text-based search results and require the user to download the data and assess its quality and fitness-for-purpose manually. This paper examines whether exploiting geospatial approaches - specifically, understanding whether a dataset can be mapped and hence integrated with other datasets - could address these issues, in particular for non-expert users. We explore challenges related to open data for education and environmental sustainability and introduce a novel, visual map-ability rating to assist data users in rapidly understanding the data quality and interoperability potential of data they wish to use. This rating system has been developed by researchers from outside the location science domain, to better reflect what is important to the wider community, and derives from a review of 104 open datasets. To explore complex biological questions, it is often necessary to access various data types from public data repositories. As the volume and complexity of biological sequence data grow, public repositories face significant challenges in ensuring that the data is easily discoverable and usable by the biological research community. To address these challenges, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) has created NCBI Datasets. This resource provides straightforward, comprehensive, and scalable access to biological sequences, annotations, and metadata for a wide range of taxa. Following the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data management principles, NCBI Datasets offers user-friendly web interfaces, command-line tools, and documented APIs, empowering researchers to access NCBI data seamlessly. The data is delivered as packages of sequences and metadata, thus facilitating improved data retrieval, sharing, and usability in research. Moreover, this data delivery method fosters effective data attribution and promotes its further reuse. Motivation In recent years, the focus of bioinformatics research has moved from individual sequences to collections of sequences. Given the fundamental role of the Burrows–Wheeler transform (BWT) in string processing, a number of dedicated tools have been developed for computing the BWT of string collections. While the focus has been on improving efficiency, both in space and time, the exact definition of the BWT used has not been at the center of attention. As we show in this paper, the different tools in use often compute non-equivalent BWT variants: the resulting transforms can differ from each other significantly, including the number r of runs, a central parameter of the BWT. Moreover, with many tools, the transform depends on the input order of the collection. In other words, on the same dataset, the same tool may output different transforms if the dataset is given in a different order. Results We studied 18 dedicated tools for computing the BWT of string collections and were able to identify 6 different BWT variants computed by these tools. We review the differences between these BWT variants, both from a theoretical and from a practical point of view, comparing them on eight real-life biological datasets with different characteristics. We find that the differences can be extensive, depending on the datasets, and are largest on collections of many similar short sequences. The parameter r , the number of runs of the BWT, also shows notable variation between the different BWT variants; on our datasets, it varied by a multiplicative factor of up to 4.2. Recently, fifth-generation (5G) mobile connectivity has been launched in Bangladesh on a trial-run basis. 5G is a super-speed mobile network that is much faster than the existing fourth-generation (4G) technology. It is excruciatingly hard to deploy a fully functioning 5G in any country regardless of its available resources and technological advancements because of some apparent technological complexity and limitations. In addition, when deploying this technology in developing countries such as Bangladesh, the costs come into play. To cope with the world's advancement in science and technology, Bangladesh is planning to implement 5G covering the whole country. In this paper, we present the major challenges in implementing a wide area 5G network in Bangladesh and find some possible solutions. This research work has also tried to get a clear picture of the service quality of the existing 4G cellular communication by analyzing some of the mobile operators' download speeds over 24 hours. In addition, this paper presents the current comparison of Internet facilities in Bangladesh with those of other countries across the globe. To the best of our knowledge, there is no publicly available study that has focused on the deployment of the 5G network in Bangladesh after assessing the current state of the cellular network. With the increasing number of space satellites, the demand for satellite communication (including maneuvering, command uploading and data downloading) has also grown significantly. However, the actual communication resources of ground station are relatively limited, which leads to an oversubscribed problem. How to make use of limited ground station resources to complete satellite communication requests more fully and efficiently in the strict visible time is the focus of satellite range scheduling research. This paper reviews and looks forward to the research on Satellite Range Scheduling Problem (SRSP). Firstly, SRSP is defined as the scheduling problem of establishing communication between satellites and ground stations, and the classification and development of SRSP are introduced. Then, this paper analyzes three common problem description models, and establishes a mathematical model based on the analysis of optimization objectives and constraints. Thirdly, this paper classifies and summarizes the common solving methods of SRSP, and analyzes their characteristics and application scenarios. A Myocardial Infarction (MI), commonly known as a heart attack, occurs when blood flow decreases or stops to the coronary artery of the heart, causing damage to the heart muscle. This investigation is a pioneering effort to depict the scientific output of myocardial infarction research especially in China using the data downloaded from Scopus database for a period from 2001 to 2020. The study proved that Chinese scholars are interested in collaborative research rather than solo research. The study deviates Bradford's law of scattering. The highest productive journal in this field, as chosen by Chinese scholars is Chinese Medical Journal followed by International Journal of Cardiology (United States) and Medicine (United States). Wang, Y ranks first with 922 publications followed by Zang, Y and Li, Y having 849 and 739 publications respectively. More than one third of the references are of less than 5 years old. The aim of this paper is to investigate the re-use of research data deposited in digital data archive in the social sciences. The study examines the quantity, type, and purpose of data downloads by analyzing enriched user log data collected from Swiss data archive. The findings show that quantitative datasets are downloaded increasingly from the digital archive and that downloads focus heavily on a small share of the datasets. The most frequently downloaded datasets are survey datasets collected by research organizations offering possibilities for longitudinal studies. Users typically download only one dataset, but a group of heavy downloaders form a remarkable share of all downloads. The main user group downloading data from the archive are students who use the data in their studies. Furthermore, datasets downloaded for research purposes often, but not always, serve to be used in scholarly publications. Enriched log data from data archives offer an interesting macro level perspective on the use and users of the services and help understanding the increasing role of repositories in the social sciences. Background: In 1986, CSIRO conducted a large program of experimental fires in grassland at Annaburroo Station, Northern Territory, Australia, with the objective of quantifying the effect of fuel condition (load and height) on fire behaviour. Aims: This paper provides the data collected during this program, representing a unique set of observations and measurements of large, free-burning experimental fires conducted in a multi-factor experimental design. Methods: Data are collated by experimental burn plot, providing detailed measurements of weather (wind speed, air temperature, relative humidity), fuel state (load, height, moisture content, curing) and fire behaviour (rate of spread, flame depth, flame height, head fire width), as well as processed information (e.g. steady-state rate of spread). Data availability: The data are made available for free download on the CSIRO Data Access Portal () and include detailed metadata descriptions of the data and their structure, also provided in this article. Conclusions: We have made the data available for fire behaviour researchers around the world to use in their research under the Creative Commons Attributions licence. It is hoped they will analyse these data and extract new and innovative insights to help improve our understanding of wildland fires burning in grass fuels. Large scale databases are critical for helping scientists decipher long-term patterns in human evolution. This paper describes the conception and development of such a research database and illustrates how big data can be harnessed to formulate new ideas about the past. The Role of Culture in Early Expansions of Humans (ROCEEH) is a transdisciplinary research center whose aim is to study the origins of culture and the multifaceted aspects of human expansions across Africa and Eurasia over the last three million years. To support its research, the ROCEEH team developed an online tool named the ROCEEH Out of Africa Database (ROAD) and implemented its web-based applications. ROAD integrates geographical data as well as archaeological, paleoanthropological, paleontological and paleobotanical content within a robust chronological framework. In fact, a unique feature of ROAD is its ability to dynamically link scientific data both spatially and temporally, thereby allowing its reuse in ways that were not originally conceived. The data stem from published sources spanning the last 150 years, including those generated by the research team. Descriptions of these data rely on the development of a standardized vocabulary and profit from online explanations of each table and attribute. By synthesizing legacy data, ROAD facilitates the reuse of heritage data in novel ways. Database queries yield structured information in a variety of interoperable formats. By visualizing data on maps, users can explore this vast dataset and develop their own theories. By downloading data, users can conduct further quantitative analyses, for example with Geographic Information Systems, modeling programs and artificial intelligence. In this paper, we demonstrate the innovative nature of ROAD and show how it helps scientists studying human evolution to access datasets from different fields, thereby connecting the social and natural sciences. The paper presents a bibliometric study of the "Journal of Informetrics". It publishes four issues per year. The data were downloaded from the journal's website. The bibliometric analysis has been conducted with 404 contributions published in the journal selected five years for a period between 2016-2020. The study focuses on necessary bibliometric analysis forms, authorship pattern analysis, year wise distribution of articles, issue wise distribution of articles, single and multi authored papers. Findings of the studies pointed towards the advantages and weakness of the journal which are helpful for its further development. The study revealed that that the maximum number of articles i.e 85 (21.04%) were published in the year 2018. This paper focuses on significant data analysis for middle atmospheric variations of height of 0 km 100 km. This data was downloaded from the SABER satellite NASA and analyzed with the help of MATLAB. The analysis includes the determination of propagation of wavelengths and oscillations for the semi-annual oscillation (SAO), Annual oscillations (AO), quasi-annual oscillations (QBO), EINIO southern oscillation (ENSO) from the period of Jan 2002 to Dec 2022 past twenty years data. The monthly mean Temperatures, monthly ozone deviations, and overall mean temperatures with standard deviations are estimated for the following altitude regions concerning troposphere (0-20km), stratospheric (21-50 km), mesospheric (51-90 km), and thermospheric regions (91-105 km). However, the results proved that the maximum temperature variations would affect the ozone depletion for the areas concerning the altitude height of 15-40 km region between troposphere and stratospheric in the temperature range of 260K, and average deviations are found in the order of 0.000010 µm for the troposphere region. The presence of harmful gases such as CO, CO2, NOx, H, and CH4 released from the automobile and powerplant industry may deplete the ozone layer and cause adverse effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The significance of Linked Open Data datasets for traffic information extends beyond just including open traffic data. It incorporates links to other relevant thematic datasets available on the web. This enables federated queries across different data platforms from various countries and sectors, such as transport, geospatial, environmental, weather, and more. Businesses, researchers, national operators, administrators, and citizens at large can benefit from having dynamic traffic open data connected to heterogeneous datasets across Member States. This paper focuses on the development of a semantic model that enhances the basic service to access open traffic data through a LOD-enhanced Traffic Information System in alignment with the ITS Directive (2010/40/EU). The objective is not limited to just viewing or downloading data but also to improve the extraction of meaningful information and enable other types of services that are only achievable through LOD. By structuring the information using the RDF format meant for machines and employing SPARQL for querying, LOD allows for comprehensive and unified access to all datasets. Considering that the European standard DATEX II is widely used in many priority areas and services mentioned in the ITS Directive, LOD DATEX II was developed as a complementary approach to DATEX II XML. This facilitates the accessibility and comprehensibility of European traffic data and services. The paper brings out the results of a bibliometric analysis of the journal titled "Journal of Emerging Market Finance" which published 13 volumes and 38 Issues with 160 research articles during the period 2002-2014. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on cheap hardware and the easy-to-use software Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Nowadays, because of its open-source nature and its simple and accessible user experience, Arduino is ubiquitous and used among hobbyist and novice programmers for Do It Yourself (DIY) projects, especially in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain. Unfortunately, such diffusion comes with a price. Many developers start working on this platform without having a deep knowledge of the leading security concepts in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Their applications, often publicly available on GitHub (or other code-sharing platforms), can be taken as examples by other developers or downloaded and used by non-expert users, spreading these issues in other projects. For these reasons, this paper aims at understanding the current landscape by analyzing a set of open-source DIY IoT projects and looking for potential security issues. Mortality statistics is underlay for public health measures and action and consequently it is one of the major indicator in measures of Covid-19 impact on population. This study aim to explore excess mortality during the Covid-19 pandemic in Serbia. Excess mortality compares expected and observed number of deaths during the given period. Analysis in this paper was based on excess deaths and excess mortality rate. Data was downloaded from the national COVID-19 database and obtained from a relevant source from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia. In order to provide better understanding of excess death, the excess mortality rate was calculated for the period January 2015-June 2022. For the period January 2015-February 2020, 38 months were observed without excess deaths, while in months with excess deaths, almost in all months excess mortality rate was below 12%. Since March 2020, the excess mortality rate has increased significantly, with highest values in December 2020 (91.4%), October (84.3) and November (67.8) 2021. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The e-book services we use today have a serious drawback in that we will no longer be able to read the books we have purchased when the service is terminated. One way to solve this problem is to build a decentralized system that does not depend on a specific company or organization by combining smart contracts running on the Ethereum blockchain and distributed storage such as an IPFS. However, a simple combination of existing technologies does not make the stored e-book data persistent, so the risk of purchased e-books becoming unreadable remains. In this paper, we propose a decentralized distributed storage called d-book-repository, which has both access management function and data durability for purchased e-books. This system uses NFTs as access rights to realize strict access control by preventing clients who do not have NFTs from downloading e-book data. In addition, e-book data stored on storage nodes in the distributed storage is divided into shards using Reed–Solomon codes, and each storage node stores only a single shard, thereby preventing the creation of nodes that can restore the entire content from locally stored data. The storage of each shard is not handled by a single node but by a group of nodes, and the shard is propagated to all nodes in the group using the gossip protocol, where erasure codes are utilized to increase the resilience against node departure. Furthermore, an incentive mechanism to encourage participation as a storage node is implemented using smart contracts. We built a prototype of the proposed system on AWS and evaluated its performance. The results showed that both downloading and uploading 100 MB of e-book data (equivalent to one comic book) were completed within 10 s using an instance type of m5.xlarge. This value is only 1.3 s longer for downloading and 2.2 s longer for uploading than the time required for a simple download/upload without access control, confirming that the overhead associated with the proposed method is sufficiently small. The incident of increased seismic activity of the Merapi volcano was initiated by several tectonic earthquake phenomena. Analysis of the mechanism of tectonic earthquakes can be studied based on the combination of static stress on the rock. This paper describes the distribution of the Coulomb stress changes due to the interaction that occurs in tectonic earthquakes with volcanic activity. The data in the calculation of the Coulomb stress distribution are secondary in the form of tectonic seismicity data downloaded from the ISC (International Seismological Center), USGS (United States Geological Survey), and Global CMT (Global Centroid Moment Tensor) catalogs between 2001 and 2010. Calculation results and data analysis is the occurrence of an increase in Coulomb stress response in the Merapi Volcano area with a value range of 0.2–10 kPa at a depth of 2–4 km below the peak of Merapi Volcano. The Coulomb stress changes distribution is thought to indicate the accumulation of stress due to tectonic earthquakes that downward at the top of the volcano, thereby affecting the stability of the magma chamber and causing volcanic activity at the Merapi volcano. Data sharing in medical research entails making research data available to other researchers for review, reuse, and collaboration. This paper seeks to describe the HYPOL (Healthy Young POLes) database, which has been prepared for sharing. This database houses the clinical characteristics and beat-to-beat cardiovascular time series of 278 individuals of Polish descent, all aged between 19 and 30 years. The data were collected from healthy volunteers who participated in multiple projects at the Department of Cardiology-Intensive Therapy research laboratory, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poznan, Poland. The cardiovascular time series data was obtained from non-invasive continuous finger blood pressure and ECG recordings, with sessions lasting up to 45 minutes. The HYPOL database includes an xls file detailing the main clinical characteristics and text fi les that capture ECG-derived RR intervals, finger systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure values, as well as the duration of interbeat intervals. The data is from 149 women (53.6% of the total) and 129 men. The median age of all participants studied was 24 years, their BMI was <24 kg/m2, pulse rate and blood pressure were average. The median duration of the recordings was almost 30 minutes. In addition, we summarise selected parameters of heart rate variability (HRV) and heart rate asymmetry (HRA). The HYPOL database is available at hypol.ump.edu.pl. The download of data is free after simple registration. Researchers and engineers can use the database to test various mathematical algorithms for HRV, HRA, blood pressure variability and asymmetry, and baroreflex function, except for selling it. Digital music is one of the most important commodities on the market due to music royalty distribution in Korea. As the music market has been transformed into a digital music market by means such as downloading and streaming, the distribution of music royalties via online service providers (OSPs) has become a highly important issue for music rights holders. Currently, one of the most important issues in music royalty distribution in Korea is the unfair distribution of royalties due to the indiscriminate repeat streaming of digital music. To prevent this, music consumption log data from several OSPs were collected via a day-based system; however, there was a limit on the identification of detailed information on the use of music in its current state. This paper analyzes the structural problems and limitations related to the settlement of music royalties and provides a structure in which there can be transparent settlement and distribution between users and rights holders as an institutional measure. Low earth orbit (LEO) satellite networks can provide Internet service to users in areas where cellular networks are difficult to deploy. One critical function of satellites is to transfer data from satellite networks to ground core network through earth stations (ESs). The Ka-band multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) can be used to establish feeder links with larger bandwidth between satellites and ESs. However, propagation at the Ka band is subjected to rain attenuation and various atmospheric fading mechanisms, which severely reduce the maximum link capacity. As a result, the insufficient capacity of feed link becomes the throughput bottleneck of satellite networks. In order to increase network throughput, it is important to fully use feeder link resources. In this paper, we propose a cooperation scheme to route packets to ESs through a well-resourced feeder link, such that the bandwidth of the feeder links can be fully utilized and the throughput of data downloading at the ESs is maximized. Firstly, we model the satellite network system and the feeder link based on MIMO technology. Then, a Maximum-Flow-Minimum-Cost (MCMF) routing algorithm consisting of two Linear Programs (LPs) is presented to compute maximum-flow routings for data download. Eventually, a variety of simulations are conducted to assess the proposed scheme, which shows that the cooperative routing scheme outperforms the existing SiRRS method in terms of throughput and delay. The present paper describes policies and guidelines for scholarly publishing of biodiversity and biodiversity-related data, elaborated and updated during the Framework Program 7 EU BON project, on the basis of an earlier version published on Pensoft's website in 2011. The document discusses some general concepts, including a definition of datasets, incentives to publish data and licenses for data publishing. Further, it defines and compares several routes for data publishing, namely as (1) supplementary files to research articles, which may be made available directly by the publisher, or (2) published in a specialized open data repository with a link to it from the research article, or (3) as a data paper, i.e., a specific, stand-alone publication describing a particular dataset or a collection of datasets, or (4) integrated narrative and data publishing through online import/download of data into/from manuscripts, as provided by the Biodiversity Data Journal. The paper also contains detailed instructions on how to prepare and peer review data intended for publication, listed under the Guidelines for Authors and Reviewers, respectively. Special attention is given to existing standards, protocols and tools to facilitate data publishing, such as the Integrated Publishing Toolkit of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF IPT) and the DarwinCore Archive (DwC-A).
