Ftalosiyaninler, birbirilerine mezo konumlardaki azot atomlarıyla bağlanan dört adet isoindol ünitesinden oluşan makroheterohalkalı bileşiklerdir. Porfirinlerin sentetik analogları olarak bilinirler. 2-boyutlu 18 adet π-elektronu içeren bu aromatik sistemler periyodik cetveldeki çoğu elementle koordinasyon kompleksi oluşturabilmektedirler. Ftalosiyaninler; çok çeşitli uygulama alanında ihtiyaç duyulan spesifik özelliklerin yapıya kazandırılabilmesi için ftalosiyanin halkasının modifikasyonuna olanak sağlayan esnek kimyasal sistemlere sahiptirler. Yüksek termal kararlılık, kimyasal dayanıklılık, yüksek renklendirme özelliği, yarı-iletkenlik, fotoiletkenlik, katalitik aktivite gibi üstün özellikleri nedeniyle ftalosiyanin ve türevleri detaylı bir şekilde incelenmiş ve çok farklı alanlardaki olası uygulamaları tespit edilmiştir. Ftalosiyaninlerin tıbbi uygulamalardaki kullanılabilirliği son yıllarda üzerinde önemle durulan noktalardan biri olmuştur. Ftalosiyaninler optik spektrumun kırmızı bölgesindeki (600-800 nm) güçlü absorpsiyonlarından dolayı son yıllarda kanser tedavisinde fotodinamik terapi (PDT) yöntemi olarak kullanılmaktadır. Ancak bu uygulamalar için bileşiklerin polar çözücülerde iyi çözünmesi gerekmektedir. Bunun yanında, porfirin ve ftalosiyaninlerin tümör yapılarında birikebilme kapasitesinden dolayı kanser tedavisi için kullanılan ve BNCT olarak tanımlanan Bor Nötron Yaklama Terapisi uygulamasında da kullanılabilirliği araştırılmaktadır. Ftalosiyanin ve porfirin gibi tetrapirol türevlerine birden fazla sübstitüe grubun bağlanabilmesi nedeniyle bu bileşikler BNCT yöntemi için ilgi çekici bileşikler haline gelmiştir. Böylelikle hedef hücreye yüksek derişimde bor yüklemesi yapılabilmektedir.Ftalosiyaninler konusunda çok fazla sayıda çalışma bulunmasına rağmen subftalosiyaninler ve karboran sübstitüe ftalosiyaninler dışında bor içeren ftalosiyanin ve türevlerine yoğun bir ilgi gösterilmemiştir. Çalışmanın ilk kısmında; öncelikle başlangıç maddeleri sentezlenmiştir. Literatürde yer alan 4-nitroftalimid (1), 4-nitroftalamid (2), 4-nitroftalonitril (3) ve (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) bileşiklerinin sentezi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Daha sonra 4-nitroftalonitril (3) bileşiğinin 3,5-dimetoksifenol bileşiği ile baz-katalizli nükleofilik aromatik yerdeğiştirme reaksiyonu sonucu literatürde yer almayan 4-(3,5-dimetoksifenoksi)ftalonitril (5) bileşiği elde edilmiştir. Diğer bir başlangıç maddesi olan ve literatürde yer almayan 5-(3,5-dimetoksifenoksi)izoindol-1,3-diimin (6) bileşiğinin sentezi ise kuru metanol içerisindeki 5 bileşiğinin kuru sodyum metoksit eklenerek amonyak gazı altında önce oda sıcaklığında 2 saat süreyle daha sonra geri soğutucu altında 8 saat süreyle kaynatılarak karıştırılmasıyla elde edilmiştir. Dinitril bileşiğinin (5) FT-IR spektrumunda, C≡N gerilim titreşimine ait şiddetli pikin 2226 cm-1 ortaya çıkması hedeflenen yapının oluştuğunu göstermiştir. C-O-C piki 1250 cm-1 civarında gözlenmiştir. Aromatik protonlar 7,74-6,23 ppm arasında ve CH3-O protonları 3,81 ppm'de gözlenmiştir. 5'ün 13C NMR spektrumunda nitril gruplarının varlığı 115,46 ve 115,03 ppm aralığında rastlanan sinyaller ile metoksi gruplarının varlığı ise 55,65 ppm civarındaki pikler ile kanıtlanmıştır. 6 bileşiğinin yapısı nitril gruplarına ait absorpsiyon bandının (2226 cm-1) kaybolması ve C=NH grubuna ait şiddetli bir pikin 1593 cm-1 'de ortaya çıkmasıyla kanıtlanmıştır. Diiminoizoindolin grubuna ait imin protonu, 1H-NMR spektrumunda 7,20 ppm'deki pik ile de karakterize edilmiştir. 6'nın 13C NMR spektrumunda nitril gruplarından kaynaklanan 115 ppm civarındaki karbon piklerinin kaybolması ve C=NH karbon piklerinden kaynaklanan 161,48 ve 169,3 ppm'deki sinyallerin varlığı bu yapının doğruluğunu kanıtlamaktadır. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında; tetradimetoksifenoksi sübstitüentler içeren metalsiz (7), çinko (8), kobalt (9) ve platin ftalosiyanin (10) sentezi gerçekleştirilmiştir. 7 bileşiği ftalonitril türevinin (5), 1-pentanol içerisinde azot atmosferi altında çözünmesi, lityum metali ilavesiyle geri soğutucu altında kaynatılması ve ardından asit çözeltisi ile muamele edilerek çöktürülmesi sonucu sentezlenmiştir. 8 bileşiğinin sentezi 5'in DMF, çinko(II)asetat ve DBU ortamında 24 saat süre ile geri soğutucu altında kaynatılmasıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bir başka dimetoksifenoksi sübstitüe ftalosiyanin bileşiği olan kobalt ftalosiyanin (9) bileşiğinin sentezi ise metalsiz ftalosiyanin (7) bileşiğinin CoCl2 ile DMF içerisinde 80 oC'de 18 saat süreyle karıştırılarak muamelesinin ardından gerçekleşmiştir. 5-(3,5-dimetoksifenoksi)izoindol-1,3-diimin (6) bileşiğinin PtCl2 ile DMAE içerisinde geri soğutucu altında kaynatılmasının ardından 9 bileşiği elde edilmiştir. 7, 8, 9 ve 10 nolu ftalosiyaninlerin IR spektrumlarında C≡N gerilim titreşimine ait 2226 cm-1 frekansında gözlenen pikin kaybolması, 1203-1041 cm-1 civarındaki C-O-C pikinin varlığını koruması bu bileşiklerin sentezini doğrulamaktadır. 7, 8 ve 10 nolu ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin 1H-NMR spektrumunda, metoksi protonlarına ait pikler 3,83-3,48 ppm civarında kendini gösterirken, sadece 7 ftalosiyaninin spektrumunda gözlenen -2,1 ppm'deki pik metalsiz halka çekirdeğinde bulunan N-H piklerini ifade etmektedir. 7, 8, 9 ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin 13C-NMR spektrumunda ortaya çıkan 54,40-55,20 ppm civarındaki metoksi gruplarına ait pikin varlığı bileşiklerin yapısını doğrulamaktadır. 7 ftalosiyaninin UV-vis spektrumunda gözlenen yarılmış haldeki Q bandının (667 nm, 701 nm) varlığı metalsiz 7 ftalosiyaninin yapısının bir kanıtıdır. Metalli 8, 9, 10 ftalosiyanin bileşikleri için Q bandına ait absorpsiyon pikleri sırasıyla 680, 671 ve 651 nm civarında gözlenmektedir.Çalışmanın üçüncü kısmında; tetradimetoksifenoksi sübstitüentler içeren metalsiz (7), çinko (8), kobalt (9) ve platin ftalsoiyanin (10) bileşiklerinin hidroksi türevlerine dönüştürülerek tetradihidroksifenoksi sübstitüe ftalosiyaninler (11, 12, 13, 14) oluşturulmuştur. Bu amaçla diklorometan içinde çözünmüş halde ki 7, 8, 9, 10 bileşiklerine, BBr3 -80 oC'de eklenmiş, karışımın 24 saat süreyle oda sıcaklığında karıştırılmasının ardından 11, 12, 13, 14 bileşikleri elde edilmiştir.11, 12, 13, 14 bileşiklerinin IR spektrumlarında –OH gruplarına ait gerilme bandı geniş bir pik şeklinde 3226 cm-1 civarında gözlenmiştir. 11, 12, 14 bileşiklerinin 1H-NMR spektrumlarında, fenolik OH proton sinyalleri sırasıyla 4,04 ppm, 4,22 ppm, 4,28 ppm civarında ortaya çıkması metoksi sübstitüe ftalosiyaninlerin hidroksillendiğini kanıtlamaktadır. 11, 12, 14'ün 13C-NMR spektrumlarında O-CH3 gruplarına ait 55 ppm civarındaki piklerin gözlenmemesi bileşiklerin hidroksillenme işleminin gerçekleştiğini ispatlamaktadır. Metalsiz 11 ftalosiyaninin absorpsiyon spektrumunda Q bandı yarılmış halde 663, 699 nm'de gözlenmektedir. 12, 13, 14 ftalosiyanin bileşiklerine ait absorpsiyon spektrumlarında ise Q bandı sırasıyla 677, 669, 606 nm'de ortaya çıkmaktadır. Çalışmanın son aşamasında; periferal pozisyonlarda dietilenoksifenoksi gruplarıyla bağlanmış sekiz adet dodekaboran sübstitüenti bulunduran metalsiz (15), çinko (16), kobalt (17), platin (18) ftalosiyaninler sentezlenmiştir. Asetonitril veya aseton içerisinde çözünmüş halde bulunan 11, 12, 13, 14 bileşikleri (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) ile K2CO3 ve Bu4NBr ilavesiyle birlikte 24 saat süreyle geri soğutucu altında reaksiyona sokulur ve halka açılma reaksiyonu sonucu 15, 16, 17, 18 bileşikleri elde edilir. 15, 16, 17, 18 bileşiklerinin FT-IR spektrumlarında 3226 cm-1'deki geniş –OH gerilme bandının kaybolması ve B-H gerilme titreşimleri için 2468 cm-1'deki şiddetli pikin varlığı hedeflenen yapıların oluştuğunu açık bir şekilde kanıtlamıştır. 15, 16, ve 18 bileşiklerinin 1H-NMR spektrumlarında, 64 adet butil grubuna ait protonların varlığı ftalosiyanine ait sayıca daha düşük olan aromatik protonların gözlenmesini zorlaştırmaktadır. Ftalosiyanine ait protonlar ancak bu bölgeye ait sinyallerin büyütülmesi durumunda farkedilebilmektedir. 15, 16, 18 bileşikleri için Bu4N+ protonlarına ait pikler 0,93-0,99 ppm, 1,30-1,38 ppm, 1,56-1,62 ppm, 3,16-3,23 ppm aralıklarında gözlenirken, fenoksietoksi gruplarına ait protonların varlığı sırasıyla 3,44, 3,40, 3,42 ppm'de gözlenmektedir. 15, 16 ve 18 nolu ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinde bulunan 16 adet tetrabutilamonyum grupları 13C-NMR spektrumunda ftalosiyanine ait aromatik karbonların ve alifatik karbonların gözlenmesine engel olmaktadır. 16 adet tetrabutilamonyum gruplarında bulunan 256 adet karbon atomu, ftalosiyaninde bulunan 16 adet karbon, benzen gruplarından gelen 24 adet karbon ve CH2-O karbonlarından gelen 32 adet karbon atomuna ait titreşim sinyallerinin gözlenmesini zorlaştırmaktadır. Bu nedenle 15, 16, 18 bileşiklerine ait 13C-NMR spektrumları incelendiğinde sadece bileşik içerisinde yoğun olarak bulunan tetrabutilamonyum gruplarına ait karbon atomlarının titreşim pikleri gözlenmektedir. 15, 16, 18 bileşiklerine ait 11B-NMR spektrumlarında 12 adet bor atomu için dört farklı titreşim sinyali gözlenmektedir. 15 ftalosiyaninin 11B-NMR spektrumunda 6,51 ppm'de singlet, -17,49 ppm'de üst üste çakışmış halde iki dublet ve -22,99 ppm'de dublet olmak üzere dört adet sinyal gözlenmektedir. Redoks açısından inaktif bir metal olan Zn(II) içermesi sebebiyle 16 nolu bileşik spektroelektrokimyasal ölçümler boyunca halka temelli karakter sergilemiştir. 17 nolu bileşik için elde edilen ilk indirgenme çiftinin kobalt(I) türünün oluşumundan kaynaklandığı, -1,4 V potansiyelinde oluşan diğer indirgenme durumu ise halka temelli redoks işlemlerinden dolayı oluştuğu anlaşılmaktadır.Bu tezin çalışma amacı kapsamında olan bor içeren bileşiklerin tıbbi alanlardaki uygulama çalışmaları dolayısıyla 16 nolu ftalosiyanin bileşiğinin biyolojik moleküllerle olan etkileşimi ve hücre içi birikme seviyesi incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak; bir hücredeki sitoplazma hacminin ca. 1,210-12 L olduğu düşünülürse, 16'nın hücre başına sağladığı birikme miktarının 2,4107 bor atomu olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Teorik olarak yapılan tahminlere göre etkili bir BNCT uygulaması için bu değer hücre başına 109 bor atomu olarak belirlenmiştir. Yüksek negatif yüke ve düşük hücre içi birikime rağmen 16 bileşiği tümör hücrelerinde yüksek seviyede bor birikimine neden olmuştur ve bu durum yeni bor içeren ftalosiyanin modelleri için umut vericidir. Phthalocyanines are macroheterocyclic compounds which comprise four isoindole units linked by nitrogen atoms at the meso position. They are known as the synthetic porphyrin analogues. These tetrapyrrolic macrocycles containing, a two-dimensional 18 π- electron aromatic system can form coordination complexes with most elements of the periodic table. Phthalocyanines have a versatile chemical system that is necessary to modify the phthalocyanine core for a broad range of applications in order to meet specific qualities suitable for their applications. Phthalocyanines and their derivatives have been extensively studied and found numerous applications in widely different areas due to their distinct properties like high thermal stability, chemical resistance, high colouring property, semiconductivity, photoconductivity, catalytic activity, etc. The availability of phthalocyanines in medicinal applications has been one of the most important research subjects in recent years. Phthalocyanines have also been succesfully used in photodynamic therapy of cancer (PDT) due to their intense absorption in the red region (600-800 nm) of the optical spectrum. For such applications a good solubility in polar solvents is preferred. Besides this, the availability of phthalocyanines and porphyrins in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, known as BNCT, has been studied because of accumulation capacity of porphyrins and phthalocyanines in tumour structures. Because of the reason that more than one substituted groups can be connected to the tetrapirol derivatives such as porphyrin and phthalocyanines, these macrocyclic compounds have become of interest for BNCT method. Thus high concentration of boron can be installed to the target cell.Although phthalocyanines have been extensively studied, not much attention has been paid to the boron containing phthalocyanine derivatives except for sub-phthalocyanines and carborane substituted ones. In the first part of this study; firstly, starting materials were prepared. The synthesis of 4-nitrophthalimide (1), 4-nitrophthalamide (2), 4-nitrophthalonitrile (3) and (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) were done according to the literature. 4-(3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)phthalonitrile (5), which is not found in literature, was prepared by a base-catalyzed nucleophilic aromatic displacement of 4-nitrophthalonitrile with 3,5-dimethoxyphenol. The other novel starting material, 5-(3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)isoindol-1,3-diimine (6), was prepared by the reaction of 5 in dry methanol with dry sodium methoxide under ammoniacal atmosphere at room temperature for 2 hours, than for 8 hours at reflux.The FT-IR spectrum of dinitrile 5 confirmed the proposed structure by the appearance of an intense peak at (2226 cm_1) for CN stretching vibrations. C-O-C peak came out at 1250 cm_1. The aromatic protons appeared at 7.74-6.23 ppm and CH3-O protons were observed at 3.81 ppm. The presence of nitrile groups was also evidenced by signals at 115.46 and 115.03 ppm, the presence of methoxy groups was identified by the signals at 55.65 ppm in the 13C NMR of 5. The structure of 6 was confirmed by the disapperance of the absorption bands of nitrile groups (2226 cm-1) and appearance of intense band attributed to the C=NH group at 1593 cm-1. The signal at 7.20 ppm in 1H-NMR spectrum of 6 of imine proton belongs to diiminoisoindoline group. The 13C-NMR spectrum proves the structure of 6 by the disappereance of nitrile group signals at around 115 ppm and appearence of C=NH carbon peaks at around 161.48 and 169.3 ppm.In the second part of this study; the synthesis of metal-free (7), zinc (8), kobalt (9) and platinium (10) phthalocyanines substituted with tetradimethoxyphenoxy groups were done. Phthalocyanine 7 was synthesized by the treatment of phthalonitrile derivative (5) with lithium metal in 1-pentanol under nitrogen atmosphere and by precipitating with addition of acid. The synthesis of 8 was done by refluxing the compound in DMF, zinc(II)acetate and DBU for 24 hours. Another dimethoxyphenoxy substituted phthalocyanine compound, cobalt phthalocyanine (9), was synthesized by the treatment of metal-free phthalocyanine (7) with CoCl2 in DMF at 80 oC for 18 hours. Phthalocyanine 9 was obtained by refluxing 5-(3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)isoindoline-1,3-diimine (6) with PtCl2 in DMAE. The IR spectrums of phthalocyanines 7, 8, 9, 10 confirmed the structures of target compounds by exhibiting the disappearence of C≡N band at 2226 cm-1 and the presence of C-O-C peak around 1203-1041 cm-1. The 1H-NMR spectrums of 7, 8 and 10 showed the signals of methoxy protons at around 3.83-3.48 ppm, whereas the signal at -2.1 ppm that indicates the N-H peaks in metal-free cyclic core was present in the spectrum of 7. The 13C-NMR spectrums of 7, 8 and 10 demonstrated the formation of complex by the presence of signals belong to methoxy groups at around 54.40-55.20 ppm. The spliting of Q-band (667 nm, 701 nm) in UV-vis spectrum of 7 confirmed the structure of metal-free 7. The absorption peaks belong to Q-band of 8, 9 and 10 observed around 680, 671 and 651 nm.At the third part of this work, tetradimethoxyphenoxy substituted metal-free (7), zinc (8), cobalt (9) and platinium (10) phthalocyanines were deprotected with BBr3 and tetradihydroxyphenoxy substituted phthalocyanines (11, 12, 13, 14) were obtained. For this purpose, BBr3 was added at -80 oC to the solutions of 7, 8, 9, 10 in dichloromethane, after mixing the solutions for 24 hours at room temperature compounds of 11, 12, 13 and 14 were obtained. In the FT-IR spectrums of 11, 12, 13, 14 the stretching band for the -OH groups appeared at 3226 cm-1 as a broad peak. According to the 1H-NMR spectrums of 11, 12 and 14 the appearance of phenolic OH proton signals at 4.04 ppm, 4.22 ppm, 4.28 ppm respectively proved deprotection of methoxy substituted phthalocyanines. The hydroxylation process was confirmed by the appearance of O-CH3 peak at around 55 ppm in 13C-NMR spectrums of 11, 12 and 14. The absorption spectrum of metal-free phthalocyanine 11 showed the Q-band splitted as 663 nm, 699 nm. The absorption spectra of 12, 13 and 14 showed the Q bands at 677, 669nm, 606 nm respectively. In the last part of this work, metal-free (15), zinc (16), cobalt (17) and platinium (18) phthalocyanines with eight dodecaborate substituents bonded with diethyleneoxyphenoxy groups at peripheral positions were synthesized. The solution of 11, 12, 13, 14 phthalocyanines in acetonitrile or acetone was reacted with (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) and refluxed with addition of K2CO3 and Bu4NBr for 24 hours, as a result of ring opening reaction 15, 16, 17, 18 were obtained. The FT-IR spectra of 15, 16, 17 and 18 clearly indicated the formation of proposed structure by the disappearence of broad -OH stretching band at around 3226 cm-1 and the appereance of intense B-H stretching band at around 2468 cm-1. In the 1H-NMR spectrum of 15, 16, 17, 18 it was hard to observe the aromatic protons of phthalocyanine ring, which was lower in number, because of protons of 64 butyl groups. The protons belong to phthalocyanine ring could be noticed in the case of expansion of the signals in this region. The Bu4N+ protons of 15, 16, 18 observed in the range of 0.93-0.99 ppm, 1.30-1.38 ppm, 1.56-1,62 ppm, 3.16-3.23 ppm, whereas protons of phenoxyethoxy groups observed at 3.44, 3.40, 3.42 ppm, respectively. The presence of 16 tetrabutylammonium groups of 15, 16, 18 prevented the observation of aromatic and aliphatic carbons belong to phthalocyanine also in 13C-NMR spectra. 256 carbon atoms present in 16 tetrabutylammonium groups complicated the observation of the signals of 16 carbon atoms belong to phthalocyanine, 24 carbon atoms belong to benzene groups and 32 carbon atoms belong to CH2-O groups. Because of that reason, the 13C-NMR spectra of 15, 16, 18 showed just the signals came from tetrabutylammonium groups. 11B-NMR data of 15 indicated the signals at 6.51 ppm (s), -17.49 ppm (two overlapped doublet peak) and -22.99 ppm (d). That of phthalocyanine 16 exhibited the signals at 6.48 ppm (s), -17.24 ppm (two overlapped doublet peak) and 23.04 ppm (d). 11B-NMR data of 18 indicated four signals at 6.44 ppm (s), -17.20 ppm (two overlapped doublet peak) and -20.29 ppm (d). Compound 16 displays ring-based characters during spectroelectrochemical measurements due to the redox inactive metal at the core. the first reduction couple of compound 17 is ascribed to the formation of cobalt (I) species. Further reduction of 17 at -1.4 V indicates a ring based redox process.In the case of the aim of this study, which is medicinal applications of boron substituted phthalocyanines, interactions of 16 with biological molecules and its intracellular accumulation and distrubition was studied. Consequently, assuming that cytoplasm volume of a cell is ca. 1.2×10-12 L, once can calculate that 16 provides accumulation of 2.4×107 boron atoms per cell. According to a theoretical estimation ca. 109 boron atoms per cell is required for efficient BNCT. Despite very high negative charge and rather low intracellular molar concentration, phthalocyanine 16 provides high level of boron accumulation in the tumor cells and can be considered as promising model for synthesis of new boron-containing phthalocyanines. 178

Bunun yanında, porfirin ve ftalosiyaninlerin tümör yapılarında birikebilme kapasitesinden dolayı kanser tedavisi için kullanılan ve BNCT olarak tanımlanan Bor Nötron Yaklama Terapisi uygulamasında da kullanılabilirliği araştırılmaktadır. Ftalosiyanin ve porfirin gibi tetrapirol türevlerine birden fazla sübstitüe grubun bağlanabilmesi nedeniyle bu bileşikler BNCT yöntemi için ilgi çekici bileşikler haline gelmiştir. Böylelikle hedef hücreye yüksek derişimde bor yüklemesi yapılabilmektedir. Ftalosiyaninler konusunda çok fazla sayıda çalışma bulunmasına rağmen subftalosiyaninler ve karboran sübstitüe ftalosiyaninler dışında bor içeren ftalosiyanin ve türevlerine yoğun bir ilgi gösterilmemiştir. Çalışmanın ilk kısmında; öncelikle başlangıç maddeleri sentezlenmiştir. Literatürde yer alan 4-nitroftalimid (1), 4-nitroftalamid (2), 4-nitroftalonitril (3) ve (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) bileşiklerinin sentezi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Daha sonra 4-nitroftalonitril (3) bileşiğinin 3,5-dimetoksifenol bileşiği ile baz-katalizli nükleofilik aromatik yerdeğiştirme reaksiyonu sonucu literatürde yer almayan 4-(3,5-dimetoksifenoksi)ftalonitril (5) bileşiği elde edilmiştir. Diğer bir başlangıç maddesi olan ve literatürde yer almayan 5-(3,5-dimetoksifenoksi)izoindol-1,3-diimin (6) bileşiğinin sentezi ise kuru metanol içerisindeki 5 bileşiğinin kuru sodyum metoksit eklenerek amonyak gazı altında önce oda sıcaklığında 2 saat süreyle daha sonra geri soğutucu altında 8 saat süreyle kaynatılarak karıştırılmasıyla elde edilmiştir. Dinitril bileşiğinin (5) FT-IR spektrumunda, C≡N gerilim titreşimine ait şiddetli pikin 2226 cm-1 ortaya çıkması hedeflenen yapının oluştuğunu göstermiştir. C-O-C piki 1250 cm-1 civarında gözlenmiştir. Aromatik protonlar 7,74-6,23 ppm arasında ve CH3-O protonları 3,81 ppm’de gözlenmiştir. 5’ün 13C NMR spektrumunda nitril gruplarının varlığı 115,46 ve 115,03 ppm aralığında rastlanan sinyaller ile metoksi gruplarının varlığı ise 55,65 ppm civarındaki pikler ile kanıtlanmıştır. 6 bileşiğinin yapısı nitril gruplarına ait absorpsiyon bandının (2226 cm-1) kaybolması ve C=NH grubuna ait şiddetli bir pikin 1593 cm-1 ‘de ortaya çıkmasıyla kanıtlanmıştır. Diiminoizoindolin grubuna ait imin protonu, 1H-NMR spektrumunda 7,20 ppm’deki pik ile de karakterize edilmiştir. 6’nın 13C NMR spektrumunda nitril gruplarından kaynaklanan 115 ppm civarındaki karbon piklerinin kaybolması ve C=NH karbon piklerinden kaynaklanan 161,48 ve 169,3 ppm’deki sinyallerin varlığı bu yapının doğruluğunu kanıtlamaktadır. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında; tetradimetoksifenoksi sübstitüentler içeren metalsiz (7), çinko (8), kobalt (9) ve platin ftalosiyanin (10) sentezi gerçekleştirilmiştir. 7 bileşiği ftalonitril türevinin (5), 1-pentanol içerisinde azot atmosferi altında çözünmesi, lityum metali ilavesiyle geri soğutucu altında kaynatılması ve ardından asit çözeltisi ile muamele edilerek çöktürülmesi sonucu sentezlenmiştir. 8 bileşiğinin sentezi 5’in DMF, çinko(II)asetat ve DBU ortamında 24 saat süre ile geri soğutucu altında kaynatılmasıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bir başka dimetoksifenoksi sübstitüe ftalosiyanin bileşiği olan kobalt ftalosiyanin (9) bileşiğinin sentezi ise metalsiz ftalosiyanin (7) bileşiğinin CoCl2 ile DMF içerisinde 80 oC’de 18 saat süreyle karıştırılarak muamelesinin ardından gerçekleşmiştir. 5-(3,5-dimetoksifenoksi)izoindol-1,3-diimin (6) bileşiğinin PtCl2 ile DMAE içerisinde geri soğutucu altında kaynatılmasının ardından 9 bileşiği elde edilmiştir. 7, 8, 9 ve 10 nolu ftalosiyaninlerin IR spektrumlarında C≡N gerilim titreşimine ait 2226 cm-1 frekansında gözlenen pikin kaybolması, 1203-1041 cm-1 civarındaki C-O-C pikinin varlığını koruması bu bileşiklerin sentezini doğrulamaktadır. 7, 8 ve 10 nolu ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin 1H-NMR spektrumunda, metoksi protonlarına ait pikler 3,83-3,48 ppm civarında kendini gösterirken, sadece 7 ftalosiyaninin spektrumunda gözlenen -2,1 ppm’deki pik metalsiz halka çekirdeğinde bulunan N-H piklerini ifade etmektedir. 7, 8, 9 ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin 13C-NMR spektrumunda ortaya çıkan 54,40-55,20 ppm civarındaki metoksi gruplarına ait pikin varlığı bileşiklerin yapısını doğrulamaktadır. 7 ftalosiyaninin UV-vis spektrumunda gözlenen yarılmış haldeki Q bandının (667 nm, 701 nm) varlığı metalsiz 7 ftalosiyaninin yapısının bir kanıtıdır. Metalli 8, 9, 10 ftalosiyanin bileşikleri için Q bandına ait absorpsiyon pikleri sırasıyla 680, 671 ve 651 nm civarında gözlenmektedir. Çalışmanın üçüncü kısmında; tetradimetoksifenoksi sübstitüentler içeren metalsiz (7), çinko (8), kobalt (9) ve platin ftalsoiyanin (10) bileşiklerinin hidroksi türevlerine dönüştürülerek tetradihidroksifenoksi sübstitüe ftalosiyaninler (11, 12, 13, 14) oluşturulmuştur. Bu amaçla diklorometan içinde çözünmüş halde ki 7, 8, 9, 10 bileşiklerine, BBr3 -80 oC’de eklenmiş, karışımın 24 saat süreyle oda sıcaklığında karıştırılmasının ardından 11, 12, 13, 14 bileşikleri elde edilmiştir. 11, 12, 13, 14 bileşiklerinin IR spektrumlarında –OH gruplarına ait gerilme bandı geniş bir pik şeklinde 3226 cm-1 civarında gözlenmiştir. 11, 12, 14 bileşiklerinin 1H-NMR spektrumlarında, fenolik OH proton sinyalleri sırasıyla 4,04 ppm, 4,22 ppm, 4,28 ppm civarında ortaya çıkması metoksi sübstitüe ftalosiyaninlerin hidroksillendiğini kanıtlamaktadır. 11, 12, 14’ün 13C-NMR spektrumlarında O-CH3 gruplarına ait 55 ppm civarındaki piklerin gözlenmemesi bileşiklerin hidroksillenme işleminin gerçekleştiğini ispatlamaktadır. Metalsiz 11 ftalosiyaninin absorpsiyon spektrumunda Q bandı yarılmış halde 663, 699 nm’de gözlenmektedir. 12, 13, 14 ftalosiyanin bileşiklerine ait absorpsiyon spektrumlarında ise Q bandı sırasıyla 677, 669, 606 nm’de ortaya çıkmaktadır. Çalışmanın son aşamasında; periferal pozisyonlarda dietilenoksifenoksi gruplarıyla bağlanmış sekiz adet dodekaboran sübstitüenti bulunduran metalsiz (15), çinko (16), kobalt (17), platin (18) ftalosiyaninler sentezlenmiştir. Asetonitril veya aseton içerisinde çözünmüş halde bulunan 11, 12, 13, 14 bileşikleri (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) ile K2CO3 ve Bu4NBr ilavesiyle birlikte 24 saat süreyle geri soğutucu altında reaksiyona sokulur ve halka açılma reaksiyonu sonucu 15, 16, 17, 18 bileşikleri elde edilir. 15, 16, 17, 18 bileşiklerinin FT-IR spektrumlarında 3226 cm-1’deki geniş –OH gerilme bandının kaybolması ve B-H gerilme titreşimleri için 2468 cm-1’deki şiddetli pikin varlığı hedeflenen yapıların oluştuğunu açık bir şekilde kanıtlamıştır. 15, 16, ve 18 bileşiklerinin 1H-NMR spektrumlarında, 64 adet butil grubuna ait protonların varlığı ftalosiyanine ait sayıca daha düşük olan aromatik protonların gözlenmesini zorlaştırmaktadır. Ftalosiyanine ait protonlar ancak bu bölgeye ait sinyallerin büyütülmesi durumunda farkedilebilmektedir. 15, 16, 18 bileşikleri için Bu4N+ protonlarına ait pikler 0,93-0,99 ppm, 1,30-1,38 ppm, 1,56-1,62 ppm, 3,16-3,23 ppm aralıklarında gözlenirken, fenoksietoksi gruplarına ait protonların varlığı sırasıyla 3,44, 3,40, 3,42 ppm’de gözlenmektedir. 15, 16 ve 18 nolu ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinde bulunan 16 adet tetrabutilamonyum grupları 13C-NMR spektrumunda ftalosiyanine ait aromatik karbonların ve alifatik karbonların gözlenmesine engel olmaktadır. 16 adet tetrabutilamonyum gruplarında bulunan 256 adet karbon atomu, ftalosiyaninde bulunan 16 adet karbon, benzen gruplarından gelen 24 adet karbon ve CH2-O karbonlarından gelen 32 adet karbon atomuna ait titreşim sinyallerinin gözlenmesini zorlaştırmaktadır. Bu nedenle 15, 16, 18 bileşiklerine ait 13C-NMR spektrumları incelendiğinde sadece bileşik içerisinde yoğun olarak bulunan tetrabutilamonyum gruplarına ait karbon atomlarının titreşim pikleri gözlenmektedir. 15, 16, 18 bileşiklerine ait 11B-NMR spektrumlarında 12 adet bor atomu için dört farklı titreşim sinyali gözlenmektedir. 15 ftalosiyaninin 11B-NMR spektrumunda 6,51 ppm’de singlet, -17,49 ppm’de üst üste çakışmış halde iki dublet ve -22,99 ppm’de dublet olmak üzere dört adet sinyal gözlenmektedir. Redoks açısından inaktif bir metal olan Zn(II) içermesi sebebiyle 16 nolu bileşik spektroelektrokimyasal ölçümler boyunca halka temelli karakter sergilemiştir. 17 nolu bileşik için elde edilen ilk indirgenme çiftinin kobalt(I) türünün oluşumundan kaynaklandığı, -1,4 V potansiyelinde oluşan diğer indirgenme durumu ise halka temelli redoks işlemlerinden dolayı oluştuğu anlaşılmaktadır. Bu tezin çalışma amacı kapsamında olan bor içeren bileşiklerin tıbbi alanlardaki uygulama çalışmaları dolayısıyla 16 nolu ftalosiyanin bileşiğinin biyolojik moleküllerle olan etkileşimi ve hücre içi birikme seviyesi incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak; bir hücredeki sitoplazma hacminin ca. 1,210-12 L olduğu düşünülürse, 16’nın hücre başına sağladığı birikme miktarının 2,4107 bor atomu olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Teorik olarak yapılan tahminlere göre etkili bir BNCT uygulaması için bu değer hücre başına 109 bor atomu olarak belirlenmiştir. Yüksek negatif yüke ve düşük hücre içi birikime rağmen 16 bileşiği tümör hücrelerinde yüksek seviyede bor birikimine neden olmuştur ve bu durum yeni bor içeren ftalosiyanin modelleri için umut vericidir., Phthalocyanines are macroheterocyclic compounds which comprise four isoindole units linked by nitrogen atoms at the meso position. They are known as the synthetic porphyrin analogues. These tetrapyrrolic macrocycles containing, a two-dimensional 18 π- electron aromatic system can form coordination complexes with most elements of the periodic table. Phthalocyanines have a versatile chemical system that is necessary to modify the phthalocyanine core for a broad range of applications in order to meet specific qualities suitable for their applications. Phthalocyanines and their derivatives have been extensively studied and found numerous applications in widely different areas due to their distinct properties like high thermal stability, chemical resistance, high colouring property, semiconductivity, photoconductivity, catalytic activity, etc. The availability of phthalocyanines in medicinal applications has been one of the most important research subjects in recent years. Phthalocyanines have also been succesfully used in photodynamic therapy of cancer (PDT) due to their intense absorption in the red region (600-800 nm) of the optical spectrum. For such applications a good solubility in polar solvents is preferred. Besides this, the availability of phthalocyanines and porphyrins in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, known as BNCT, has been studied because of accumulation capacity of porphyrins and phthalocyanines in tumour structures. Because of the reason that more than one substituted groups can be connected to the tetrapirol derivatives such as porphyrin and phthalocyanines, these macrocyclic compounds have become of interest for BNCT method. Thus high concentration of boron can be installed to the target cell. Although phthalocyanines have been extensively studied, not much attention has been paid to the boron containing phthalocyanine derivatives except for sub-phthalocyanines and carborane substituted ones. In the first part of this study; firstly, starting materials were prepared. The synthesis of 4-nitrophthalimide (1), 4-nitrophthalamide (2), 4-nitrophthalonitrile (3) and (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) were done according to the literature. 4-(3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)phthalonitrile (5), which is not found in literature, was prepared by a base-catalyzed nucleophilic aromatic displacement of 4-nitrophthalonitrile with 3,5-dimethoxyphenol. The other novel starting material, 5-(3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)isoindol-1,3-diimine (6), was prepared by the reaction of 5 in dry methanol with dry sodium methoxide under ammoniacal atmosphere at room temperature for 2 hours, than for 8 hours at reflux. The FT-IR spectrum of dinitrile 5 confirmed the proposed structure by the appearance of an intense peak at (2226 cm_1) for CN stretching vibrations. C-O-C peak came out at 1250 cm_1. The aromatic protons appeared at 7.74-6.23 ppm and CH3-O protons were observed at 3.81 ppm. The presence of nitrile groups was also evidenced by signals at 115.46 and 115.03 ppm, the presence of methoxy groups was identified by the signals at 55.65 ppm in the 13C NMR of 5. The structure of 6 was confirmed by the disapperance of the absorption bands of nitrile groups (2226 cm-1) and appearance of intense band attributed to the C=NH group at 1593 cm-1. The signal at 7.20 ppm in 1H-NMR spectrum of 6 of imine proton belongs to diiminoisoindoline group. The 13C-NMR spectrum proves the structure of 6 by the disappereance of nitrile group signals at around 115 ppm and appearence of C=NH carbon peaks at around 161.48 and 169.3 ppm. In the second part of this study; the synthesis of metal-free (7), zinc (8), kobalt (9) and platinium (10) phthalocyanines substituted with tetradimethoxyphenoxy groups were done. Phthalocyanine 7 was synthesized by the treatment of phthalonitrile derivative (5) with lithium metal in 1-pentanol under nitrogen atmosphere and by precipitating with addition of acid. The synthesis of 8 was done by refluxing the compound in DMF, zinc(II)acetate and DBU for 24 hours. Another dimethoxyphenoxy substituted phthalocyanine compound, cobalt phthalocyanine (9), was synthesized by the treatment of metal-free phthalocyanine (7) with CoCl2 in DMF at 80 oC for 18 hours. Phthalocyanine 9 was obtained by refluxing 5-(3,5-dimethoxyphenoxy)isoindoline-1,3-diimine (6) with PtCl2 in DMAE. The IR spectrums of phthalocyanines 7, 8, 9, 10 confirmed the structures of target compounds by exhibiting the disappearence of C≡N band at 2226 cm-1 and the presence of C-O-C peak around 1203-1041 cm-1. The 1H-NMR spectrums of 7, 8 and 10 showed the signals of methoxy protons at around 3.83-3.48 ppm, whereas the signal at -2.1 ppm that indicates the N-H peaks in metal-free cyclic core was present in the spectrum of 7. The 13C-NMR spectrums of 7, 8 and 10 demonstrated the formation of complex by the presence of signals belong to methoxy groups at around 54.40-55.20 ppm. The spliting of Q-band (667 nm, 701 nm) in UV-vis spectrum of 7 confirmed the structure of metal-free 7. The absorption peaks belong to Q-band of 8, 9 and 10 observed around 680, 671 and 651 nm. At the third part of this work, tetradimethoxyphenoxy substituted metal-free (7), zinc (8), cobalt (9) and platinium (10) phthalocyanines were deprotected with BBr3 and tetradihydroxyphenoxy substituted phthalocyanines (11, 12, 13, 14) were obtained. For this purpose, BBr3 was added at -80 oC to the solutions of 7, 8, 9, 10 in dichloromethane, after mixing the solutions for 24 hours at room temperature compounds of 11, 12, 13 and 14 were obtained. In the FT-IR spectrums of 11, 12, 13, 14 the stretching band for the -OH groups appeared at 3226 cm-1 as a broad peak. According to the 1H-NMR spectrums of 11, 12 and 14 the appearance of phenolic OH proton signals at 4.04 ppm, 4.22 ppm, 4.28 ppm respectively proved deprotection of methoxy substituted phthalocyanines. The hydroxylation process was confirmed by the appearance of O-CH3 peak at around 55 ppm in 13C-NMR spectrums of 11, 12 and 14. The absorption spectrum of metal-free phthalocyanine 11 showed the Q-band splitted as 663 nm, 699 nm. The absorption spectra of 12, 13 and 14 showed the Q bands at 677, 669nm, 606 nm respectively. In the last part of this work, metal-free (15), zinc (16), cobalt (17) and platinium (18) phthalocyanines with eight dodecaborate substituents bonded with diethyleneoxyphenoxy groups at peripheral positions were synthesized. The solution of 11, 12, 13, 14 phthalocyanines in acetonitrile or acetone was reacted with (Bu4N)[B12H11O(CH2CH2)2O] (4) and refluxed with addition of K2CO3 and Bu4NBr for 24 hours, as a result of ring opening reaction 15, 16, 17, 18 were obtained. The FT-IR spectra of 15, 16, 17 and 18 clearly indicated the formation of proposed structure by the disappearence of broad -OH stretching band at around 3226 cm-1 and the appereance of intense B-H stretching band at around 2468 cm-1. In the 1H-NMR spectrum of 15, 16, 17, 18 it was hard to observe the aromatic protons of phthalocyanine ring, which was lower in number, because of protons of 64 butyl groups. The protons belong to phthalocyanine ring could be noticed in the case of expansion of the signals in this region. The Bu4N+ protons of 15, 16, 18 observed in the range of 0.93-0.99 ppm, 1.30-1.38 ppm, 1.56-1,62 ppm, 3.16-3.23 ppm, whereas protons of phenoxyethoxy groups observed at 3.44, 3.40, 3.42 ppm, respectively. The presence of 16 tetrabutylammonium groups of 15, 16, 18 prevented the observation of aromatic and aliphatic carbons belong to phthalocyanine also in 13C-NMR spectra. 256 carbon atoms present in 16 tetrabutylammonium groups complicated the observation of the signals of 16 carbon atoms belong to phthalocyanine, 24 carbon atoms belong to benzene groups and 32 carbon atoms belong to CH2-O groups. Because of that reason, the 13C-NMR spectra of 15, 16, 18 showed just the signals came from tetrabutylammonium groups. 11B-NMR data of 15 indicated the signals at 6.51 ppm (s), -17.49 ppm (two overlapped doublet peak) and -22.99 ppm (d). That of phthalocyanine 16 exhibited the signals at 6.48 ppm (s), -17.24 ppm (two overlapped doublet peak) and 23.04 ppm (d). 11B-NMR data of 18 indicated four signals at 6.44 ppm (s), -17.20 ppm (two overlapped doublet peak) and -20.29 ppm (d). Compound 16 displays ring-based characters during spectroelectrochemical measurements due to the redox inactive metal at the core. the first reduction couple of compound 17 is ascribed to the formation of cobalt (I) species. Further reduction of 17 at -1.4 V indicates a ring based redox process. In the case of the aim of this study, which is medicinal applications of boron substituted phthalocyanines, interactions of 16 with biological molecules and its intracellular accumulation and distrubition was studied. Consequently, assuming that cytoplasm volume of a cell is ca. 1.2×10-12 L, once can calculate that 16 provides accumulation of 2.4×107 boron atoms per cell. According to a theoretical estimation ca. 109 boron atoms per cell is required for efficient BNCT. Despite very high negative charge and rather low intracellular molar concentration, phthalocyanine 16 provides high level of boron accumulation in the tumor cells and can be considered as promising model for synthesis of new boron-containing phthalocyanines., Doktora, PhD

Çalışmanın ilk kısmında, 4-(4-formil-3- hidroksifenoksi)ftalonitril bileşiği ve 4-(3-hidroksi-4-(((2-hidroksifenil)imino)metil)fenoksi)ftalonitril bileşiği sentezlenmiştir. Bu Schiff bazı yapısındaki dinitril türevinin boronatı, fenilboronik asit ile reaksiyonuyla hazırlanmıştır. 11B NMR spektrumunda tetrakoordine bor atomunun karakteristik pikinin gözlenmesi, boronat bileşiğinde N?B bağının varlığını kanıtlamıştır. Çalışmanın ikinci kısmında; tetra-[4-(4-salisilideniminofenoksi)-]ftalosiyaninato çinko(II) bileşiğinin fenilboronik asit ile reaksiyonuyla periferal konumlarında 4 adet Schiff bazı gruplarının benzenboronik asit esterlerini taşıyan ftalosiyanin bileşiği elde edilmiştir. Çalışmanın üçüncü kısmında; tetra(salisilaldimino)-ftalosiyaninato çinko(II) bileşiğinin difenilborinik asit esteri hazırlanmıştır. Tetrakoordine bor atomu içeren bu ftalosiyaninin fotofiziksel ve fotokimyasal özellikleri de incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın son aşamasında; 4-[2-(bis(2-hidroksietil)amino)etoksi]ftalonitril bileşiği ve bu dinitril bileşiğinin fenilboronik asit ile kompleksleşme reaksiyonuyla yeni bir dioksazaborakan elde edilmiştir. Bu dietanol amin grupları içeren dinitrilin siklotetramerizasyonuyla elde edilen tetrakis-[2-(bis(hidroksietil)amino)etoksi]-ftalosiyaninato çinko (II) bileşiği fenilboronik asit ile reaksiyona sokularak dioksazaborakan sübstitüe çinko ftalosiyanin sentezlenmiştir. In the first part of this study; 4-(4-formyl-3-hydroxyphenoxy)phthalonitrile and 4-(3-hydroxy-4-(((2-hydroxyphenyl)imino)methyl)phenoxy)phthalonitrile were synthesized. The boronate of this Schiff Base structured dinitrile derivative was obtained by its reaction with phenylboronic acid. The N-B bond in this boronate was established by 11B NMR which showed a signal, characteristic for the tetracoordinated boron atom. In the second part of this work; the phthalocyanine substituted peripherally with 4 phenyl boronic acid esters of Schiff base groups was obtained from the reaction of tetra-[4-(4-aminophenoxy)]-phthtalocyaninatozinc (II) with phenylboronic acid. In the third part of this work, diphenylborinic acid ester of tetra (salicylaldimino)-phthtalocyaninatozinc(II) was prepared. The photophysical and photochemical properties of this phthalocyanine having a tetracoordinated boron atom in its structure have also been investigated. In the last part, 4-[2-(bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino)ethoxy]phthalonitrile was synthesized. A novel dioxazaborocane was obtained from its complexation reaction with phenylboronic acid. Dioxazaborocane substituted zinc phthalocyanine was synthesized by the reaction of phenylboronic acid and tetrakis-[2-(bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amino)ethoxy] zinc (II) obtained from cyclotetramerization of this dinitrile derivative with diethanolamine substituents. 200

Tez (Yüksek Lisans) -- İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi, Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, 2013, Thesis (M.Sc.) -- İstanbul Technical University, Institute of Science and Technology, 2013, Ftalosiyaninler, optik ve elektronik özellikleri öne çıkan fonksiyonel boyalardır. Heteroatomik sistemler olan ftalosiyaninler, termal kararlılıkları, kimyasal dirençleri, elektriksel, optiksel veya sıvı-kristal özelliklerinden dolayı sadece teorik alanda değil, uygulamada da büyük öneme sahiptirler. Ftalosiyaninlerin uygulama alanlarından biri olan Bor Nötron Yakalama Tedavisi (BNCT) kanserin cerrahi müdahaleye gerek kalmadan, minimum zarar ile yapılabileceği alternatif bir tedavi yoludur. Bu çalışmada farklı dinitril türevlerinden yola çıkılarak bir adet simetrik ve iki adet yeni asimetrik ftalosiyanin sentezi gerçekleştirilmiş ve bu ftalosiyaninlerin o-karboran türevlerine geçilmiştir. Sentezlenen tüm bileşiklerin karakterizasyonu FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 11B NMR, UV-Vis, GC-MS yöntemleri kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Sentezlenen bu karboranil türevleri için bundan sonra yapılabilecek çalışmalar, BNCT gibi uygulamalarda etkinliklerinin değerlendirilmesidir., Phthalocyanines are an important class of functianal dyes which exhibit intriguing electronic and optical characteristics. Due to their thermal and chemical stability, electrical, optical or liquid-crystal properties, phthalocyanines have considerable importance not only in theoretical field, but also in many applicatians. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is one of these application and it is an alternative cancer treatment method that needs no surgical operation and shows minimum damage. In this work a symmetrical and two novel asymmetric phthalocyanines were synthesised starting from three different dinitrile derivatives. Also o-carborane substituted phthalocyanines were obtained. All compounds were caracterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, 11B NMR, UV-Vis and GC-MS methods. After this, these carboranyl derivatives can be evaluated for BNCT applications., Yüksek Lisans, M.Sc.

Sentezlenen bu yeni bileşiklerin yapıları 1H NMR, IR, Uv-vis ve kütle teknikleri kullanılarak aydınlatılmıştır. Çalışmanın ilk kısmında 5,7-diromo-8-hidroksikinolin ve 4-nitroftalonitrilin kuru DMF içerisinde susuz K2CO3 varlığında 25oC’deki nükleofilik sübstitüsyon reaksiyonu sonucunda 4-(5,7-dibromokinolin-8-iloksi)-ftalonitril(1) bileşiği elde edilmiştir. Çalışmamızın ikinci kısmında mikrodalga enerjisi kullanarak 1 bileşiğinin uygun metal tuzları (Zn(AcO)2 ve CoCl2) ile 600 W, 160oC’de 10 dak. süren reaksiyonundan hedeflenen metalli ftalosiyaninlere (2,3) geçilmiştir. Tüm bileşikler kromatografik yöntemler kullanılarak saflaştırılmıştır. Elde edilen ftalosiyaninler (2,3) THF, aseton, DMSO, kloroform gibi çözücülerde çözünmektedir. Sonuç olarak, bu çalışmada yeni bir ftalonitril türevi sentezlenerek bundan iki adet yeni ftalosiyanin bileşiği elde edilmiştir., The scope of the present work is to synthesize and characterize metallophthalocyanines containning four 5,7-dibromoquinoline groups in peripheral positions. All these new compounds were characterized by 1H-NMR, Uv-vis, IR and Mass spectroscopy. In the first part of this work, 4-(5,7-dibromo-quinoline-8-yloxy)-phthalonitrile (1) was prepared from the nucleophilic substitution reaction of 4-nitrophthalonitrile and 5,7-dibromo-8-hydroxyquinoline in the presence of K2CO3 in dry DMF at room temperature. In the second part, metallophthalocyanines were synthesized by using microwave energy at 160oC and in 600W, 10 minutes with corresponding metal salts (Zn(AcO)2 and CoCl2). All compounds were purified by chromotography techniques. These new phthalocyanines (2,3) show good solubility in THF, acetone, DMSO and chloroform. In Conclusion, one novel phthalonitrile derivative and corresponding two metallophthalocyanines were synthesized in this study., Yüksek Lisans, M.Sc.

Bu çalışmada ilk olarak reaktif sübstitüent ihtiva eden ve ayrıca supramolekuler yapıya sahip ftalosiyaninlerin eldesi için başlangıç bileşiği olabilecek, her bir benzo ünitesi üzerinde hidroksietiltia grubu içeren yeni tip ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin sentezi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın ikinci kısmında, periferal konumlarında etiltia ester köprüleri ile dört adet piridin donör grubu bağlı metalsiz ftalosiyanin bileşiği hazırlanmıştır. Piridin donör gruplar, suda çözünür tetrakatyonik ftalosiyanin elde etmek üzere iyodometan ile kuarnernize edilmişlerdir. Tetranükleer supramoleküler ftalosiyanin, periferal piridin dönor gruplarının vanadil bis(asetilasetonat) ile koordinasyona girmesi ile hazırlanmıştır. Elde edilen yapı paramanyetik sistem olduğundan toz olarak EPR'si çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmada son olarak, esnek oksoetiltia köprülü periferal antrasen grubu içeren yeni metalli ve metalsiz ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin sentezi, ftalosiyanin çekirdeğindeki metallerin floresans emisyon spektrumlarının şiddeti üzerine etkisinin incelenmesi ve antrasen grupları ile ftalosiyanin çekirdeği arasındaki enerji transfer olayının incelenmiştir. Ayrıca elde edilen yeni ftalosiyanin bileşiklerinin elektrokimyasal ve elektro kataliz davranışlarıda incelenmiştir. In this study, the first containing the reactive substituent, and also has a supramolecular structure that may be get starting to phthalocyanine, on each benzo group containing hydroxyethylthia unit the synthesis of a new type of phthalocyanine compounds were conducted. In the second part of this work, a metal-free phthalocyanine with four pyridyl donor groups bound through ethylthia ester bridges on the periphery have been prepared. The pyridine donors were quaternized with iodomethane to a water-soluble tetracatianic phthalocyanine. The tetranuclear supramolecular phthalocyanine was prepared by the coordinatian of peripheral pyridine donors with VO(acac)2. As a paramagnetic system, the latter was studied in powder form by EPR. The last part of this work was to synthesize a series of metallo and metal-free phthalocyanines functianalized with peripheral 9-anthroyl substituents through flexible oxyethylthia-bridges and to explore the energy transfer between the anthracene units and the macrocyclic core. Also electrochemical and electrocatalysis properties of new phthalocyanine compounds were investigated. 167

Bu çalışmada, ilk olarak 4-nitroftalonitrilin 3-merkaptopropanoik asit ve 4-merkaptobenzoik asit ile reaksiyonundan ftalonitril türevi yeni başlangıç maddeleri ve 4-hidroksibenzoik asit ile reaksiyonundan daha önce sentezlenmiş başlangıç maddesi elde edilmiştir. Daha sonra, bu başlangıç maddelerinin metal tuzları ve metalik Li ile siklotetramerizasyonundan sırasıyla metalli (M=Zn, Cu ve Co) ve metalsiz (M=2H) ftalosiyaninler elde edilmiştir. Sentezlenen bileşiklerin yapıları spektroskopik yöntemlerle karakterize edilmiştir. Elde edilen metalli ftalosiyaninlerin bazıları ile amonyaklı ortamda katyonik pamuk kumaşa boyamalar yapılmış ve boyalı kumaşlardan bazılarına yıkama ve su haslığı testleri yapılmıştır. Boyama verimliliği ve düzgünlüğü açısından, sübstitüente göre 4-merkaptobenzoik asit ve 4-hidroksibenzoik asitli ftalosiyaninlerin, metale göre ise Cu ve Co ftalosiyaninlerin en iyi sonucu verdiği görülmüştür. Yapılan haslık testleri de iyi sonuç vermiştir. In this study, two novel phthalonitrile derivatives were firstly prepared starting from 4-nitrophthalonitrile: substitution of the nitro group with 3-mercaptopropionic acid and 4-mercaptobenzoic acid and another known phthalonitrile derivative was prepared through a reaction between 4-nitrophthalonitrile and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid. In the next part, cyclotetramerisation of these phthalonitrile derivatives in the presence of metal salts led to metallophthalocyanines (M= Zn, Cu and Co). Metal-free phthalocyanines were obtained from the cyclotetramerisation of phthalonitrile dervatives with metallic Li. The cationic cotton fabric was dyed with synthesized metallophthalocyanines in the presence of ammonia and washing and water fastness tests were applied to some dyed fabrics. As we compare the dyeing results according to substituents, we can say that dyeing effectiveness and homogeneity (levelness) of 4-mercaptobenzoic acid- and 4-hydroxybenzoic acid-substitued metallophthalocyanines are better than 3-mercaptopropanoic acid-substituted metallophthalocyanines. In terms of metal ions used, CuPc and CoPc gave better results than ZnPc. Besides, test results showed that the fastness are very good for metallophthalocyanines. 177

Bu çalışmada bir tanesi asimetrik olmak üzere 4 farklı ftalosiyanin serisisentezlenmiştir. Tezin ana amacı olan uç gruplarda organometalik bir kompleks içerenftalosiyaninlerin sentezi için uç grup olarak azobenzen birimleri ihtiva eden bir ligandsentezlenmiştir. Bu ligand kullanılarak simetrik ve asimetrik ftalosiyaninlere geçilmiştir.Ftalosiyaninlerin kararlı yapısından dolayı uç gruplar vasıtası ile çeşitli reaksiyonlaragirebilmektedir. Ftalosiyaninlerin azobenzen birimleri ile paladyum arasında dimerikve monomerik olarak kompleksleşme reaksiyonları gerçekleştirilmiştir. Azobenzenbirimleri içeren simetrik ftalosiyanin serisinin monomerlerinde, uçlarda dört tanepaladyum kompleksi içeren multimetal bir kompleks elde edilmiştir. Asimetrikftalosiyanin serisinde elektron veren 2-etoksietoksi grupları ile elektron çeken paladyumkompleksi aynı yapı üzerinde bulunmaktadır. Böylece ftalosiyanindeki elektronyoğunluğu önemli ölçüde değişmektedir. 2-etoksietoksi grubu içeren simetrikftalosiyaninler ile çözünürlüğü ve verimleri yüksek bileşikler sentezlenmiştir.Çalışmanın son kısmında ise oktasübstitüe ftalosiyanin serisi yapılmıştır.Dikloroftalonitrilin bir klor grubu yerine 1-naftol bağlanarak diğer klora daha başkabir bileşiğin bağlanabilmesine olanak verilmiştir. Sonuç olarak bu tez kapsamında 3tane yeni ligand ve bu ligandların simetrik ve asimetrik ftalosiyaninleri sentezlenmistir.Toplamda 23 yeni bileşik literatüre girmistir. Sentezlenen bileşiklerin yapıları çeşitlispektroskopik tekniklerle aydınlatılmıştır. In this study, 4 different phthalocyanine series, one of which is asymmetric, weresynthesized. In order to achieve the aim of the thesis, which is the synthesis ofphthalocyanines containing organometallic complexes on the periphery, a ligand havingazobenzene groups was synthesized. By using this ligand, symmetric and asymmetricphthalocyanines were prepared. Phthalocyanines can undergo several reactions via theirend groups due to their robust nature. Dimeric and monomeric complexation reactionswere performed between azobenzene groups on the phthalocyanine ring and palladiumion. In the monomeric complexes of symmetric azobenzene-containing phthalocyanineseries, a multimetallic complex was obtained having four palladium complexes at theperiphery. In the asymmetric phthalocyanine series, there are electron donating 2-ethoxyethoxy and electron-withdrawing palladium complex in the same structure.Therefore, the electron density on phthalocyanine changes dramatically. Withsymmetric phthalocyanines having 2-ethoxyethoxy groups, highly soluble and highyieldingproducts were obtained. In the last part of the study, a series of octasubstitutedphthalocyanines were synthesized. 1-2aphthol was substituted with a reactive chlorinein 4,5-dichlorophthalonitrile and the other chlorine remains unchanged, which meansthat another compound may be substituted for this chlorine. As a result, three newligands and symmetric and asymmetric phthalocyanines of these ligands weresynthesized. A total of 23 compounds was introduced to the literature. Severalspectroscopic methods were used for elucidation of the compounds. 181

Amaçlanan bileşikleri elde etmek için başlangıç maddesi olarak kullanılan 4-(Karboksimetilsülfanil)ftalonitril; 4-nitroftalonitril ve tiyoglikolik asidin kuru DMF içerisinde çözülerek, K2CO3 varlığında azot atmosferindeki reaksiyonundan sentezlenmiştir. Hazırlanan 4-(Karboksimetilsülfanil)ftalonitril 1-pentanol içerisinde çözülerek metal tuzları (Zn(Ac)2, NiCl2, CuCl2 ve CoCl2) varlığında metalli ve Li metali kullanarak metalsiz periferal konumlarda tiyoglikolik asit grubu bulunan ftalosiyaninler sentezlenmiştir. Sentezlenen bu bileşikler IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, UV-Vis ve kütle spektrometrisi teknikleri kullanılarak karakterize edilmiştir., In this study, metal-free and metal phthalocyanines substituted with thioglycolic acid groups on peripheral positions have been synthesized. The starting point of these compounds was 4-(carboxymethylsulfanyl)phthalonitrile which was prepared from 4-nitrophthalonitrile and thioglycolic acid by nucleophilic substitution in DMF at room temperature in the presence of anhydrous K2CO3. After that, metal-free and metal phthalocyanines were synthesized with the cyclotetramerization of 4-(carboxymethylsulfanyl)phthalonitrile in the presence of Li metal or metal salts (Zn(Ac)2, NiCl2, CuCl2 and CoCl2). Son yıllarda tetrapirolün önemli bir türevi olan pirazinoporfirazinler hem ileri teknoloji uygulamalarında hem de bilimsel çalışmalarda önemli malzemeler olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır.Diaminomaleonitril ve glioksaldan yola çıkılarak elde edilen pirazin-2,3-dikarbonitril bu tür maddelerin sentezi için kullanılan başlangıç maddeleridir. Bu yapının çeşitli sübstitüentlerinden yola çıkılarak çok çeşitli pirazinoporfirazin türevleri elde edilir.Bu bileşikler enerji absorpsiyonunda verimli olup UV-vis bölgede şiddetli absorpsiyon pikleri verir ve sentetik boyalar olmak üzere sıvı kristaller, gaz sensörleri, fotodinamik kanser tedavisi, elektrokromik görüntüleme cihazları, optik veri depolama gibi uygulama alanlarına sahiptir ancak bu alanlarda kullanılabilmeleri için genel organik solventlerde ve suda çözünebilinir olmalıdırlar. Çünkü bu makrosiklik halkalar geniş ? sistemlerinden dolayı agregasyon eğilimine sahiptirler ve bu da saflaştırma ve karekterizasyon işlemlerinde güçlük çıkarttığı gibi bu maddelerin çözünürlüklerini azaltır. Bu sorun ana çekirdek yapıya hacimli veya uzun zincirli sübstitüentlerin eklenmesiyle giderilebilir. Agregasyonun önlenmesinde bir diğer kriterde bu yapılara bağlanan merkez atomudur. Koordinasyon sayısı yüksek merkez metal atomlarına agregasyon önleyici sübstitüentlerin bağlanması mümkündür ve bu da çözünürlüğü kolaylaştırır. Bu şekilde değişik sübstitüentler pirazinoporfirazinlerin özelliklerini değiştirmek için yapıya ilave edilebilir.Pirazinoporfirazinler ayrıca metallerin hemen hemen hepsiyle kompleks verir. Bu yapılar uygun ligandların siklotetramerizasyon reaksiyonları sonucu metalli ya da metalsiz türevleri şeklinde elde edilebilir ve bu yapıların oluşumu mavi/yeşil renklerin ortaya çıkmasıyla rahatlıkla anlaşılabilir.Bu çalışmada ariloksi- ve arilalkiloksi- sübstitüe pirazin-2,3-dkarbonitril türevlerine örnek olmak üzere iki yeni dinitril bileşiği sentezlenmiş ve değişik şartlarda siklotetramerizasyon reaksiyonları gerçekleştirilmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu reaksiyonlar sonucunda iki yeni dinitril türevinden doğrudan porfirazin oluşturmadığı, sübstitüentlerin çözücü hekzanol ile yer değiştirmesi sonucunda oktakis(hekziloksi)pirazinoporfirazin oluştuğu saptanmıştır. Elde edilen bu yeni maddelerin yapıları FT-IR, 1H NMR ve UV-Vis spektrumlarından faydalanarak aydınlatılmıştır. In the recent years an important derrivative of tetrapyrol, pyrazinoporhyrazines were become important materials in both high-tech applications and scientific area.Pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile is the precursor which is obtained by the reaction between diaminomaleonitrile and glyoxal. Derrivatives of pyrazinoporhyrazines are synthesized by derrivatives of pyrazine-2,3-dicaarbonitriles.These compounds are very efficient in energy absorption and gave intensive absorption peaks in the UV-vis region and also have aplications in synthetic dyes, liquid crystals, gas sensors, photodynamic therapy, electrochromic display devices and optic data storage. These compounds must be soluble in common organic solvents and water to be applicable in these areas. Pyrazinoprphyrazines have wide ?? systems which causes aggregation tendency thus, causes characterization and purification problems and decreases their solubility. This problem can be solved by addition of bulky and long chain substituents to the peripheral positions of those compounds. Another criteria to avoid aggregation is the central metal atom. Bulky and long chain substituents can be attached to the compound with cetral metal atom having high coordination number. By this way, additional substituents can be attached to the pyrazinoporphyrazines to change their properties.Pyrazinoporhyrazines gave complexes with almost all metals and their synthesis are done by cyclotetrmerization of the proper ligands. Formation of these compounds can be understood by presence of blue/green colors during the reactions.In this study, two novel aryloxy- and arylalkyloxy derrivatives of dinitrile compounds were synthesized and these compounds were reacted for cyclotetramerization in various conditions. After these reactions two novel dinitrile derrivatives didn?t give porphyrazine directly, instead of that substituents of the dinitrile derrivatives were exchanged with the solvent of hexanol and gave octakis(hexyloxy)pyrazinoporphyrazine. Obtained novel products after those reactions were characterized by FT-IR, 1H NMR and UV-Vis spectra. 60

FERROSEN SUBSTITUE PORFIRAZINLER OZET Tetrapirol türevleri içinde porfirazinler, ftalosiyaninler ile aynı zamanlarda sentez ve karakterize edilmelerine rağmen, bu bileşikler arasında nispeten ihmal edilen bir grup olmuştur( Şema 1 ). Gerçekten periferal konumlarında fonksiyonel gruplar taşıyan porfirazinler, yeni optik, magnetik ve elektronik özellikleri sergileyecek potansiyele sahiptir; aym zamanda porfîrazinlerin keskin renk göstermesi söz konusu maddelerde karşılaşılan değerlerde bazı ilave üstün özelliklerini teyit etmiştir. îç kürede bulunan geçiş metal iyonu moleküler özellikleri yeni yönlere sevketme, değiştirme ve kontrol etme imkanlarına sahiptir. Şema 1 Ftalosiyanin ve porfirazin Tetraazaporfirinler veya ftalosiyaninler gibi disk şeklindeki porfirinlerin kolayca nematik veya kolon halinde sıralanma eğiliminde olduğu bilinir. İki boyut sıralanmalar veya kolon şeklinde mezofazlar oluşturan bu s istemler, anisotropik özellik gösteren filmler haline getirilebilir. Kolon şeklindeki sıralanış göçü, elektriksel iletkenlik veya foto iletkenlik gibi transfer proseslerinin tek boyutta oluşmasını sağlar. Diğer yandan, monomerik camsı porfirinler makrosiklik yapının kuvvetli bir şekilde düzenli agregasyon oluşturma eğiliminden dolayı nadiren literatürde tanımlanmıştır. Ancak, bu tür malzemeler optik ve fotokatalitik özellikleri bakımından incelenerek kullanılabilirler.Ferrosen üniteleri, 1-8 atomdan oluşan kısa bir köprü ile ayrıldığı zaman, FcTFc redoks proseslerinin birbirini etkileyerek yarılmalara yol açtığı gözlenmiştir. Ancak daha uzun zincirlerle ayrıldığında bağımsız olarak hareket ederler. Bu etkileşimi göstermek üzere bazı farklı tris (diferrosenilbipiridil) rutenyum bileşikleri, iki veya daha fazla ferrosen yan dalı taşıyan bir seri makrosiklik bileşikler ve bazı ferrosen sübstitüe piridin ve şahsilik asid türevleri yayınlanmıştır. Bütün bu örneklerde ferrosen ünitelerinin hepsi aynı potansiyelde okside olmuştur: Her bir E1/2 değerinin çok az farklı olmasına neden olan istatiksel bir etki olmalıdır, fakat bu ayrılma genellikle farklandınlamamıştır. Görülen istisnai bir durum, üç Fem ve bir Fe11 bis (siklopentadienil) ünitelerinin birlikte farklı valens değerliklerinde bulunduğu meso-tetraferrosenil porfirindir. Böyle karışık valens türlerinin varlığı bis(siklopentadienil) demir üniteleri arasında bir elektronik etkileşime sebep olur. Ferrosen ünitelerinin eklenen bir benzen halkası ile porfirin halkasından uzaklaştırılması sonucu oluşturulan meso-tetrakis (4- ferrosenilfenil) porfirinde bütün dört ferrosenin ortak bir potansiyelde (0.54V v.s SCE) tekrar oksidasyona uğradığım göstermiştir. Kadish ve çalışma grubu ferrosen oksidasyon potansiyelinin 0.1 8V yanldığını gösteren ilginç bir bis(ferrosenil) germanyum oktaetilporfirin için verileri yayınladılar, fakat burada iki ferrosen ünitesi tek germanyum atom ile birbirinden ayrılmıştır. Birbirinden dört veya daha fazla atomla ayrılan ferrosen birimleri birbirini bağlayan konjuge bir grup olsa bile etkileşmemektedir. Ancak meso-tetraferrosenil porfirinde ortaya çıkan istisnai durum nedeniyle porfirazin türlerini aynı amaçla incelemenin uygun olacağı kanısına varılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı esnek zincirlerle periferal pozisyonlardan bağlanmış sekiz ferrosen grubu içeren yeni bir porfirazin yapısı hazırlamaktı. Bu bileşik için başlangıç maddesi olarak sodyum siyanür ve karbondisülfürden iki kademede sentez edilen ditiyomaleonitrildisodyum tuzu seçilmiştir. Hacimli elektron donor grup olarak bilinen S-gruplanmn varlığında porfırazinlerin optik özellikleri ve kimyasal kararlılıkları artırılmıştır. Maleonitrilindisodyum tuzunun 2-bromoetanol ile muamelesi sonucunda magnezyum propanol varlığında porfirazine siklotetra- merizasyon için uygun bir o-dinitril bileşiği sentez edilmiştir. Bu koyu-mavi porfirazin türevi kolon kromotografisinden saflaştırılmıştır. Bu porfirazini hedef moleküle çevirmek için ferrosenin monokarboksilik türevi hazırlanmış ve sadece disiklohekzildikarbodiimid varlığında sekiz -OH grubunun tamamı esterleştirilebilmiştir. Oktakis (ferrosen) sübstitüe porfirazinato magnezyum merkezi çekirdekte farklı metal iyonları taşıyan porfirazinler hazırlamak için çok uygun bir iç ara üründür. Bunun için en uygun metod trifloroasetik asit ile porfirazin çekirdeğindeki metali çıkarıp metalsiz türevine geçtikten sonra, farklı metal iyonlarım içeren türlerine xıŞema 2 Ferrosen sübstitüe porfîrazin ulaşmak için kobalt (II), çinko (II) ve bakır (II) asetatları ile reaksiyona sokmaktır ( Şema 2 ). Bütün bu porfirazinlerin en yaygın özelliği kloroform ve diklormetan da oldukça iyi çözünebilmesidir. Bu yeni porfirazinlerin yapılan elementel analiz, İR, NMR, kütle (mass) ve UV- görünür bölge spektrumlan ile karakterize edilmiştir. İR spektrumunda alifatik ve ferrosen gruplarına ait C-H gerilme titreşimleri genellikle 2928 ve 3106 cm`1 civarlarında görülmüştür. İlave olarak, FfePzı için -NH gerilme titreşimleri umulduğu gibi 3260 cm`1 de ortaya çıkmıştır. MgP^ nin 'H NMR spektrumunda ferrosenler (4.05-4.38 ppm), 0-CH2-C (4.686 ppm) ve S-CH2-C (4.055 ppm) için tipik kimyasal kayma değerleri gözlenmişlerdir, integral değerleri önerilen yapıya uygunluk göstermektedir. Porfirazinlerin UV-görünür bölge spektrumu yapılarını daha fazla aydınlatmada kullamlmaktadır. Şiddetli Q absorpsiyon bandlan verilen sıraya göre Mg, Co, Zn ve Cu türevleri için 669, 641, 671 ve 667 nm de gözlenmiştir. MPzı ve H2PZ1 arasında D4I1 dan D2I1 a simetri değişimi 637 ve 705 nm de Q bandlannm yarılması sonucunu doğurmuştur. Ferrosen gruplarının etkisiyle 450 nm civarında geniş bir absorpsiyon gözlenmiştir. Periferal pozisyonlardaki ferrosen gruplarının elektrokimyasal özellikleri siklik voltametre kullanılarak incelenmiş ve ferrosen gruplarına ait elde edilen sonuçlarda aynı potansiyelde görülen organometalik kısımların, birbirinden ve porfirazin kümesinden yeteri kadar etkilenmediğini göstermiştir. xıı FERROCENE SUBSTITUTED PORPHYRAZINES SUMMARY Among the tetrapyrroles, porphyrazines have been a relatively neglected group of compounds although the synthetic procedure covering them were reported about the same decade as phthalocyanines ( Scheme 1 ). Indeed, peripherally functionalized porphyrazines have the potential to exhibit novel optical, magnetic and electronic properties; also serve intense colour of porphyrazines maintain some additional features superior to the values met in related materials. The transition metal ion in the inner core offer new ways to induce, modify and control molecular properties. Scheme 1 Phthalocyanine and porphyrazine Disc-like porphyrins like phthalocyanines or tetraazaporphyrins are known to readily arrange into stacks possessing nematic or columnar order. The columns themselves can form two-dimensional superlattices or columnar mesophases, which can be macroscopically aligned in films with anisotropic properties. The columnar order provides the opportunity for one-dimensional transport processes such as energy migration, electrical conductivity or photoconductivity. On the other hand, monomelic glassy porphyrins are rarely described in the literature because of the strong tendency of the macrocycles to form ordered aggregates. However, such materials may be employed in investigating optical and photocatalytic properties. Ferrocene units couple together when separated by a short bridge, 1-8 atoms, exhibiting a splitting of the FcTFc redox process: however they frequently behave independently (uncoupled) at longer separations. Thus several different tris xm(diferrocenylbipyridyl) ruthenium species, a range of macrocyclic species with two or more pendant ferrocene moieties, and some ferrocene substituted pyridine and salicyclic acid derivatives have been reported. In these cases, all the ferrocene units oxidized at essentially the same potential: there must actually be a statistical effect which separated the individual Em to a small degree, but this separation is not usually resolved. An apparent exception is the meso- tetraferrocenylporphyrin which forms a mixed valence species with 3 Fem and Fe11 bis(cyclopentadienyl) units. The existence. of such mixed valence species indicates an electronic interaction between the bis(cyclopentadienyl)iron units. Moving the ferocene units further out from the porphyrin ring, by a conjugated benzene rign, in meso-tatxakis(4- ferocenylphenyl)porphyrin led to the more common situation where all four ferrocene units were again oxidized at a common potential (at ca 0.54 V vs. CSE). Kadish et al. published data for an interesting bis(ferrocenyl) germanium octaethylporphyrin which does show a splitting of ferrocene oxidation potentials of 0.18 V, but in this case the two ferrocene units are bridged by a single germanium atom. Thus, it would appear that ferrocene units at sites more than about four atoms separate from one another do not interact even when there is an apparent conjugated pathway linking them. However given the observation of an exception to the rule in the form of meso- tetraferrocenylporphyrin, there appeared to be merit in exploring the porphyrazine species. In the present paper our aim has been to prepare a novel porphyrazine structure with eight ferrocene groups bound to the periphery through flexible chains. The starting point for this compounds is disodium salt of dithiomaleonitrile which is obtained in two steps from carbon disulfide and sodium cyanide. The presence of bulky electron donating S-groups is expected to enhance the chemical stability and optical property of porphyrazines. Treatment of disodium salt of maleonitrile with 2-bromoethanol results with an o-dinitrile compound suitable for cyclotetramerization to porphyrazine in the presence of magnesium propanolate. The dark-blue crude porphyrazine derivative was recrystallized from colon chromatography. In order to convert this porhyrazine to the target molecule, monocarboxylic acid derivative of ferrocene was used and only in the presence of dicyclohexyldicarbodiimide all eight -OH groups could be esterified. Octakis (ferrocene) subtituted porphyrazinato magnesium is a very suitable intermediate to prepare porphyrazines with different metal ions in the core. The usual method of treatment with trifluoro acetic acid led to metal free derivative, which was further reacted with cobalt(II), zinc(II) and cupper(II) acetate to reach products XIVScheme 2 Ferrocene substituted porphyrazine ( MgPzi ) containing either of these metal ions in the porphyrazine core ( Scheme 2 ). A common property of all these porphyrazines is the ease of solubility in chloroform, dichlormethan. These novel compounds are characterized by elemental analysis IR, NMR mass and UV-vis spectral data. In the IR spectra, C-H streching vibrations of aliphatic and ferrocene groups appear around 2928 and 3106 cm`1, respectively. In addition, for H2PZ1 -NH stretching vibrations come out at 3260 cm`1 as expected. !H NMR spectrum of MgPzi is relatively simple with typical chemical shift values for ferrocenes (4.05-4.38ppm), 0-CH2-C (4.686 ppm) and S-CH2-C (4.055 ppm). The integral values also confirm the proposed structure. UV-vis spectra of porhyrazines provide further evidence. Intence Q absorption bands appear at 669, 641, 671 and 667 ran for Mg, Co, Zn and Cu derivative, respectively. B bands appear near uv region between 345-378 nm. The change of symmetry from D4I1 to D2h between MPzi and H2Pzi result with the splitting of Q bands in the latter at 637 and 705 nm. The consequence of ferrocene groups is a broad absorption around 450 nm. The electrochemical behaviour of ferrocene groups on the periphery has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and the immediate result is that all ferrocene groups are reduced simultaneously at the some potential indicating that the orgonometallic moieties are sufficiently aport from the porphyrazine core and from each other. xv 107

Ditiomaleonitril disodium tuzunun heksilbromür ile alkillendirilip, Mg-butanolat 'in template etkisi sonu oluşan oktakis (heksiltio) porfırazinato magnezyum 'un ( MgPz ), trifloroasetikasit ile muamele edilmesiyle ortaya çıkan metalsiz porfırazinin, (H2Pz) DMF içerisinde vanadil sülfat ile reaksiyona sokulmasıyla VOPz oluşumu sağlanmıştır. Oluşan ürün metanol ile muamele edilerekçöktürülmüştür. Süzülen ham ürün heksan ile muameleye tutularak reaksiyona girmemiş metalsiz porfirazinler uzaklaştırılmıştır. Aynı metalsiz porfırazinin DMF içerisinde molibdenil asetilaseton ile reaksiyona sokulmasıylaVI da MoO2PZ oluşumu sağlanmıştır. Oluşan ürün heksan ile, DMF çözeltisinden ekstrakte edilmiştir. İR spektrumlarında porfirazine ait karakteristik piklerin yanında 1000 cm`1 civarında VO grubunun ve 1028 cm`1 civarında da M0O2 varlığını kanıtlayan pikler görülmüştür. UV-Görünür bölge spektrumunda Q ve B absorpsiyon bandları sırasıyla VO için 699 nm ve 352 nm de M0O2 için de 372 nm ve 668 nm de ortaya çıkmıştır. Q band apsorpsiyonunun tek bir pik şeklinde görülmesi VOPz nin Cztv simetrisinde, M0O2PZ nin de Ü4h simetrisinde olduğunu destekler. For this point of view, the applications in photocopying and laser printing processes can be given as common examples. Even there is limited research on pophyrazines, they can be good alternatives for phthalocyanines since they have identical core like those in phthalocyanines. The V02+ and MoÜ22+ derivatives of porphyrazines synthesized in the present work show both their similarities with phthalocyanine derivatives and they have additional advantages such as ease of synthesis and isolation, so they can be very useful as advanced technological materials. For the synthesis of porphyrazine derivatives, firstly dithiomaleonitrile disodium salt was alkylated with hexylbromide and,by using template effect of magnesium butanolate, it was converted to MgPz. After that, Mg ion was removed by the treatment with trifluoroacetic acid to reach metal- free porphyrazine, F^Pz. The metal-free pophyrazine was treated with vanadyl sulfate in DMF to obtain vanadyl pophyrazineIV,VOPz,which was precipitated by addition of methanol as a crude product and then, it was isolated from unreacted tfePz by extraction of hexane. In a same way, tfePz was reacted with molybdenyl acetylacetonate in DMF to obtain M0O2PZ. This product was extracted from the reaction mixture by treatment with hexane. In the IR spectra, beside the characteristic peaks of porphyrazine, the characteristic peaks for VO and for M0O2 groups are observed around 1000cm`1 and 1028cm`1 respectively. In the UV-VIS spectra, the Q and B band absorptions are at 699 nm and 352 nm for VOPz and 372 nm and 668 nm for M0O2PZ.The single Q band absorption indicates the C4V symmetry of VOPz and D41, symmetry of M0O2PZ. ESR spectra of both liquid and solid VOPz samples at different temperatures indicate the paramagnetic nature of V02+ ion in the porphyrazine core. Trifloroasetik asit ile muamele edilerek metalsiz türevine dönüştürülen bileşik (H2PZ), Th(acac)4'la DMF varlığında muamele edilerek metal / makrohalka 1 : 1 oranındaki monomerik bir kompleks olan Th(acac)2Pz ve TCB varlığında ise, homoleptik bir kompleks olan Th(Pz)2 elde edilmiştir. Bir aktinit olan toryumun sandviç yapıdaki porfirazin türevi Th(Pz)2 şeklindedir. Elde edilen homoleptik ve monomerik komplekslerin yapılan spektral verilerle aydınlatılmaya çalışılmıştır. ABSTRACT An important group of coordination compounds is that of tetrapyrrol derivatives which receive interest due to both practical and theoretical point of view. Metallophthalocyanines have important uses as commercial dyes, pigments, optical and electrical materials and catalysts. At the same time, they are being examined as advanced materials and their properties are compared to those of the porphyrine complexes in hope of arriving how these naturally occurring macrocyclic compounds function. In this work, novel soluble thorium porphyrazine were synthesized. Disodium salt of dithiomaleonitrile obtained from sodium cyanide and carbondisulfide in two steps has been preferred as the starting point. Alkylation of disodium salt of maleonitrile with hexylbromide in methanol gave l,2-bis(hexylthio)-l,2-dicyano-ethylene in cis-form. Cyclotetramerization of l,2-bis(hexylthio)maleonitrile into porphyrazine was accomplished by making use of the template effect of magnesium ions. t^Pz was obtained by treating MgPz in CF3COOH. The homoleptic complex, Th(Pz)2 was synthesized by treating Th(acac)4 in DMF with F^Pz.The monomelic complex Th(acac)2Pz was prepared by treating Th(acac)4 in TCB with tfePz. Synthesis along with the spectroscopic properties of these novel compounds were described. 69

ÖZET Ftalosiyaninlere çok benzeyen bir yapıda olmalarına rağmen tetrabenzoporfirinler (TBP) üzerlerinde aynı yoğunlukta araştırma yapılmamıştır. Bu çalışmada/ gurubumuzda daha önce gerçekleştirilen ve ilgi çekici sonuçlar veren taç eter sübstitüe ftalosiyaninlere benzer tetrabenzoporfirinlerin sentezinde kullanılacak başlangıç maddelerinin hazırlanması amaçlanmıştır. Bilinen tetrabenzoporfirin sentez yöntemleri içerisinde, taç eterli türevlerinin hazırlanmasına en uygun başlangıç maddeleri ftalik anhidrid ve 2-asetilbenzoik asid olarak tesbit edilmiştir. 2-Asetilbenzoik asidin taç eterli türevini hazırlamak için benzo-15-crown-5'in asetillenmesi ile 4'-asetil-benzo-15-crown-5 elde edilmiş, bunun nitrolanması ile de 4'-Asetil-5'-nitro- benzo-15-crown-5 ele geçmiştir. Bu maddenin indirgenmesi ile oluşan aminin diazolanması ve Sandmeyer yöntemine göre CuCN ile reaksiyonundan 4'-Asetil-5'-siyano-benzo-15- crown-5'e geçilmiştir. Asidik şartlarda hidroliz sonucu 4'-Asetil- (benzo-15-crown-5) -5'-karboksilik asid elde edilmiştir. Taç eter sübstitüe ftalonitrilin alkali ortamda hidrolizi ve asetik anhidrid ile reaksiyonundan (15-crown-5) sübstitüe ftalik anhidride ulaşılmıştır. Her iki başlangıç maddesi ile Zn(II) ve Cu(I) iyonlarının template etkisinden yararlanarak tetrabenzoporfirin türevi elde edilmeye çalışılmış fakat yapılan ilk denemelerde istenilen renk dönüşümleri gözlenemediginden herhangibir ürün izole edilememiştir. Elde edilen yeni maddelerin yapıları, elementel analiz, I.R., NMR ve kütle spektrumu ile aydınlatılmıştır. SUMMARY NOVEL CROWN ETHER DERIVATIVES FOR TETRABENZOPORPHYRINE SYNTHESIS In addition to their wide use as dyes and pigments due to their intense colours, phthalocyanines and their structurally, similar analogs porphyrins, tetraazaporphyrins and tetrabenzoporphyrins are also extensively studied for their biological significance, catalytic and electrical properties. Phthalocyanine çC*o Tetrabenzoporphyrine N H H y N Tetraazaporphyrine Porphyrine Tetrabenzoporphine and its metal complexes, as structural analogs of porphine, are convenient objects for use in the modeling of important biological processes: photosynthesis, the fixation and transfer of oxygen, enzymic reactions. However, despite the ever- increasing interest in these compounds, their extensive investigation is made difficult by their poor accessibility. VIMetalloporphyrins/ which include such important natural complexes as chlorophyll, haem of the blood, and others, represent a vast and unique group of inter complex compounds. The central metal atom displaces two hydrogen ions from the porphyrin ligand and practically finds itself in a symmetrical electrostatic field of four nitrogen atoms with which it may form four equivalent, or almost equivalent, coordinate donor-acceptor bonds. The specific features of metalloporphyrins as intercomplex compounds are due not only to the polydentate (tetradentate) nature of the ligand but also to its rigidity. The latter is determined by the planar structure of the large ring of the porphyrin molecule, by the unique conjugation in it which is due to the strong % -electron interaction over the entire large ring (the so- called macroring), and by the particularly favourable structure of the coordination centre, consisting of four nitrogen atoms, on account of which most metal ions easily enter this space, coming into close contact with the nitrogen atoms. Because of its high rigidity the porphyrin ligand imposes specific requirements on the geometric parameters of the metal ion, whereby they form two clearly defined groups of stable or labile complexes. Characteristically, the metal ion that has entered into coordination with a porphyrin is in fact a partner of the conjugated porphyrin system and may either stabilize or destabilize it. Owing to this direct contact with the atoms of the conjugated system, it influences all, even the most remote parts, of the large molecule and alters the oxidation-reduction, acid-base, electron- optical, and all other properties of the porphyrin. In this connection it is of particular interest for a coordination chemist to use metalloporphyrins in examining the effect of the nature of the metal involved, the type of chemical bonding, and its strength on the major properties of porphyrins. A spesific feature of metalloporphyrins is their insolubility in water and solubility in organic solvents in cases where no significant solvation centres are present among the functional substituents of the ligand. This is the reason why most studies of porphyrins and metalloporphyrins have been conducted in non-aqueous media. vnThe spesific features and great diversity of porphyrin, particularly metal loporphyr ins, are the factors responsible for their importance and wide distribution in nature, their extensive use in various physical, physicochemical, quantum-chemical, biological studies, as well as in the production of dyes, semiconductors, and catalysts. The structral diversity of porphyrins and metal loporphyr ins opens up enormous possibilities for studying the effect of functional substituents and central atoms on the properties of porphyrins. Such studies will make it possible in the future to provide an answer to the question why Nature has chosen, as the basic component of the photosynthetic and respiratory molecular system, porphyrins with a particular combination of functional substituents such as can be found chlorophyllic acids and protoporphyrin. Finally, an important and unique feature of porphyrins and their metal derivatives is their electronic absorption and emission spectra. The diversity of the latter, corresponding to the great variety of porphyrins, the typical arrangement of spectral bands, the sensitivity to certain effects on the molecule, and their complexity, make them not only a most reliable means for identifying porphyrins but also a rich source of information on the structure of porphyrins, the type of their coordinations, the interaction between substituents and ionizing media, and the intramolecular energies. Since the early work of Pedersen on crown ethers, intensive research on macrocyclic chemistry has been grown and resulted with new branching of the field such as `supramolecular chemistry` or `host-guest chemistry`. Also another important step has been the combination of hard and soft donor sites in the same molecule such as crown ether substitued vic-dioximes or phthalocyanines which have been introduced for the first time by Bekaroğlu and coworkers. The aim of the present work is to extend this approach to tetrabenzoporphyrins by preparing their crown ether substituted derivatives. Since crown ether units need to be attached before the cyclomerization to tetrabenzoporphyrine, new substituted crown ethers are required. vmTBPH2 _. _ _ Among the relatively few possibilities, crown ether substituted phthalic anhydride and o-acetyl benzoic acid appear to be the most appropriate condidates. The first one has been prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of 4', 5'- dicyanobenzo-15-crown-5 and then subsequent treatment with acetic anhvride. O^J C o cr-/ 0 0^1 !3CC COOH C-CH- II 0 Phtalic anhydride o-acetyl benzoic acid The synthesis of 4'-Acetyl- (benzo-15-crown-5) -5'- carboxylic acid has been accomplished by starting with 4' -acetyl derivative which is obtained from benzo-15- crown-5 by Friedel Crafts acetylation using polyphosphoric acid as catalyst. This compoud has been nitrated with concentrated nitric acid to introduce the N-contening group in o-position. Reduction of nitro- group to amino has been carried out by tin. Diazotization of amino group and then treatment with CuCN Kas in the case of well known Sandmeyer reaction gives the 4'-acetyl-5'-cyanobenzo-15-crown-5. Hydrolysis of cyano- group in alkaline medium gives the desired compound. Although convert these starting materials into tetrabenzoporphyrine or analogous compounds with 1-3 bridging (=N-) groups in the presence of metal ions such as Cu(I) or Zn(II), no intense colour changes indicating the formation of these conjugated systems were observed. The main reason for this failure is the difficulty in maintaining temperature control at high temperatures (350°-400°C) necessary for the cyclotetramerization reaction. The new compounds isolated during this work have been analysed with various spectral techniques such as İR, İH NMR, 13c NMR and Mass Spectra to verify their structures. When the IR spectra of the crown ether derivatives are compared, C=0 stretching vibration of 4'-acetyl derivative comes out at 1665 cirri. After nitration in ortho-position this band shifts to 1690 cm-l and the NO2 vibration appears at 1520cirrl as a strong band. After reduction of nitro group to amine, C=0 band shifts to 1660 cm~l and the stretching vibration of nitro group disappears; simultaneously bending and stretching vibrations of primary amino group appear at 1620 and 3400 cm~l, respectively. The characteristic absorption of nitrile group is at 2210 cirri in the 4'-acetyl-5'-cyano derivative. After hydrolysis of CsN to carboxylic acid, an intense band at 1740 cirri comes out and there is a broad absorption between 3100-2500 cirri which is characteristic for H-bridged carboxylic acid dimers. In the İH NMR spectra, we may follow the changes occuring şn the substitution pattern of aromatic groups. In 4'-acetylbenzo-15-crown-5, aromatic protons show two doublets and one singlet. After nitration in ortho- position, there are only two singlets at 7.59 and 6.73 ppm. When the amino-group is converted into nitrile by Sand-meyer reaction, the singlets for aromatic protons are shifted to 7.39 and 7.15 ppm. After hydrolysis of nitrile into carboxylic acid, the singlets for aromatic protons are again shifted further away from each other (i.e. 6.85 and 7.49 ppm). The deuterium exchangeable carboxylic acid proton comes out at 10 ppm as expected. In the 13c NMR spectrum if 4'-acetyl-5'-cyanobenzo-15- crown-5, protonated aromatic carbons come out at 109.97 and 108.61 ppm, while the acetyl carbon appears at154.06 ppm. The mass spectrum of the same compound gives M+ and (M+l)+ peaks at 335 and 336, (M-CN)+ at 310 and (M-C0CH3)+ at 293 ppm. XI 46

ÖZET Bu çalışmada bakır (II) tetranitroftalosiyanin sodyum sülfür ile tetraamino türevine indirgenmesinden sonra, uzun zincirli alifatik aldehidlerle kondensasyonu sonucu çözünür- bir ftalosiyanin elde edilmiştir. Ftalosiyaninler genellikle ftalanitril, ftalik anhidrit, ftalimid veya bunların sübstitüsyon ürünleri ile metal tuzları arasındaki reaksiyondan elde edilebilir. Ayrıca odihalojen içeren arornatik bileşikler ile bakır siyanür arasındaki reaksiyon diğer bir elde türüdür. Ftalosiyaninler benzen halkası üzerinde sübstitüsyon yolu ile sayısız türev oluştururlar. Ancak halka üzerinde doğrudan sübstitüsyon gelişigüzel olur. Dağılımın eşit şekilde olması için önce ftalosiyanini oluşturacak ligand sübstitüsyon reaksiyonuna sokulur, daha sonra ftalosiyanin elde edilir. Bu nedenle tetranitro bakır ftalosiyanin nitrof talikasitten çıkılarak elde edilmiştir. Ftalik anhidritten başlanarak ftalimid ve 4-nitrofta- limid literatürde açıklanan metotlarla elde edilmiştir. 4- nitrof talimid' den sodyumhidroksit ve nitrikasitli ortamda 4-nitrof talikasit elde edilmiştir. Bu çalışmada ftalosi yanin eldesi için çıkış maddesi olarak 4-nitrof talikasit kullanılmıştır. 4-nitrof talikasit amonyummolibdat, amon- yumklorür, üre ve nitrobenzenli oz-tamda kaynatılarak mavi renkli bakır (II) 4,9,16,23, tetranitroftalosiyanin elde edilmiştir. Daha sonra tetranitroftalosiyanin sodyumsül- für nonahidrat ile bakır (II) 4, 9, 16, 23 tetraaminof talosiyanine indirgenmiştir. Elde edilen ürün koyu yeşil renklidir. Coor dination chemistry works on coordination compounds or comp lexes which contain a central metal atom or ion, usually a metal ion surrounded by a cluster of ions or molecules which are called Uganda. Metal ions are Lewis acids in that they can share electron pairs donated by ligands, which are therefore Lewis bases. A ligand attached directly through only one coordina ting atom (or using one coordinating site on metal) is called monodentate ligand. Those which have more than one binding sites are called bidentate^ridentate, etc* They are also called a chelating ligand. Most transition metal ions have room to bind up to six ligand atoms. In classical coordination chemistry, the number of donor atoms (with one Lewis base electron pair per donor atom) bound directly to the central metal defines the coordination number. The ligand directly bound to the metal are said to be in the inner coordination sphere, and the counter ions, that balance out the charge remaining on the complex after the coordination number of the central metal has been satis fied, are said to be outer sphere ions. Cordination compound containing macrocyclic ligands have been known and studied since the beginning of this century; however, until quite recently the number and variety of these compounds, were limited. The development of the field of bioinorganic chemistry has been an important factor in spurring the growth of interest in complexes of macrocyclic compounds since it has been recognized that many complexes containing synthetic macrocylic ligands may serve as models for biologically important species which contain metal ions in macrocyclic ligand environment. It is confirmed that in the formation of macrocyclic compounds cations play an important role for the yield of the reaction. This fact is called `template.effect`, which reflects the controlling influence of the metal ion in a particular synthesis. The macrocyclic structure in phtha locyanines is actually formed by the template effect of a metal ion to link four phthalonitrile molecules. Phthalocyanine molecules have totally eigtheen hyd rogen atoms. Two central hydrogen atoms are not respon sive to any reaction except substitution with metal atoms in complex formation; for instance, all attempts to alkylate or to acylate these hydrogen atoms have failed. Other sixteen hydrogen atoms are attached to its outer benzenoid rings. These hydrogen atoms can be replaced with appropriate substituents. vxIntense colQr and great stability are two striking properties of both the natural.porphin derivatives and the synthetic phthalocyanines. They are highly crystalline, vary in colo.r from reddish blue to bluish green and are extremely stable. Copper phthalocyanine for instance sublimes without decomposition at 550-580 C, dissolves in concentrated sulphuric acid and is recovered unchanged upon dilution. The copper compound is reddish in shade and can be obtained in various crystalline or noncrystalline forms with unique physical characteristics by applying different reaction conditions and treatments. The polymorphism of CuPc can be observed in its «*,p, *`,£,£., forms which exhibit different red shades ana crystalline properties - Most of the unsubstituted phthalocyanines can exist in two crystalline modifications, which differ from each other in solubility, shade and thermodynamic stability. The metastable form is termed the `alpha` modification, the more stable form is termed the `beta` modification. The two forms are readily identified by their x-ray diffrac tions patterns. The more stable beta modifications of the phthalocyanine pigments are produced when they are treated with organic solvents, the rate of phase change being dependent upon the temperature and the nature of the solvent. The alpha forms revert spontaneously to the beta modifications when they are heated to 200 C, or when they are exposed, even at room temperature, to many organic sol vents, particularly those of aromatic character. The size of the metal atom has an improving effect on the stability of the molecule. Copper fits reasonably well into the center cavity, therefore it is very stable. When the atomic radii of metals are considerably larger or smaller than 1.35 A (e.g., manganese and lead) the metal atoms are more readily removable from the phthalocyanines. On the other hand the atomic radii do not have a significant effect oh the planar symmetry in the crystals, owing to the structural stability of the framework of the phthalocyanine molecule which makes the metals conform to its steric require ments. Phthalocyanines can be prepared via two general proce dures, namely the `nitrile` method and the `anhydride` method. Substituted phthalonitriles often must be prepared through the sequence, dicarboxylic acid-»anhydride_, imide_, amide-» nitrile. The anhydride metod has the advantage over the nitrile method that it involves the use of the readily accessible phthalic acid, anhydride and imide. vixidealized coordination spheres for metal lophthaloc- yanines are shown in figure 2. Since their synthesis early in this century, phthaloc- yanines have established themselves as blue and green dyes- tuffs par excellence. They are an important industrial commodity used primarily in inks, coloring. plastics and metal surfaces, and dyestuf f s jforrjaans for and other clothing. More recently their use as the photoconducting agent in photocopying machines heralds a resurgence of interest in these species. In the coming decade, their commercial utility is expected to have significant ramifica tions. Thus future potential uses of metal phthalocyanines include sensing elements in chemical sensors, electrochromic display devices photodynamic reagents for cancer therapy and other medical applications, applications to optical compu ter read/w-^-i-te discs, and related information storage systems,.catalysts for control of sulfur effluents, electrocatalysis for fuel cell applications, photovoltaic cell elements for energy generation, laser dyes, new red-sensitive photocopying applications, liquid crystal color display applications and molecular metals and conducting, thermallystable polymers, ih.recent years there has been a growth in the number of laboratories exploring the fundamental academic aspects of phthalocyanine chemistry. Pthalocyanine and its metal derivatives are insoluble in water and most organic solvents. But the solubility can be altered by substituting suitable functional groups in vmthe peripheral benzene ring of the phthalocyanine struc ture. Among the thermally stable soluble phthalocyanine compounds, amine grops substituted metal phthalocyanine derivatives are found to be promising. The amine deriva ' - tives of metal phthalocyanines have been previously synthe sized mostly for the preparation of inks, dyes and pigments, The procedures described often give impure compounds and these compounds have not given clear solutions in aprotic solvents. Ah '.efficient method was developed for the synt hesis of analytically pure metal (II) 4, 9,16, 23-phthaloc- yanine tetraamines. The aim of this study is to synthesize a new soluble phthalocyanine derived from copper (II) 4, 9, 16,23-tetraamino phthalocyanine through schiff base reaction with long chain paraf inic aldehydes. The first step is the synthesis of copper (II) 4,9,16, 23 - tetranitrophthalocyanine. Tetranitrophthalocyanine is prepared from the substituted intermediate, 4-nitrophthalic acid. Its reaction with copper sulfate pentahydrate in the presence of ammonium chloride, ammonium molybdate and urea gave the product. It is not possible to nitrate the phtha locyanine directly by nitric acid since all phthalocyanines are attacked by strong oxidizing agents. The second step is the synthesis of copper (II) 4,9,16, 23-tetraamino phthalocyanine. The suitable way to prepare this product is the reduction of tetranitrocopperphthaloc- yanine. Nitrophthalocyanine can be reduced with sodium sulp hite, sodium hydrosulphite or stannous chloride -jin the presence strong acid. In this work tetra ratro phthalocya nine was reduced in the presence sodium sulfide nonahydrate. Tetraaminocopper phthalocyanine is deep green and insoluble in common organic solvents. This product gives clear solu tions in aprotic solvents such as.> dimethyl sulphoxide, dimethylf ormamide and dimethylacetamide. Its colour turns into blue by the action of acid as a.result of decrease in the electron density due to the salt formation. The third step is the synthesis of schiff base of aminophthalocyanine. This condensation is carried out with lauryl aldehyde in pyridine. After evaporation of the solvent, the product was isola ted by dissolving in chloroform and further precipitation with ethanol. The yield of the reaction was about 80 %.The solubility of the productiri chloroform determined spectrop- hotometrically is about İ0`2 m. xxA clear evidence of condensation reaction is the IR spectrum of the product which indicates., the disappearence of primary amino groups around 3300 cm and the appearen- ce of intense new C-H stretching vibrations of alkyl chains around` 2800-3000 cirri The electronic spectrum of the product in chloroform shows intense Q band of the phthalocyanine core around 670 nm,B bands around 3 50 nm.
