The promotion of human rights, the equality of all people and prevention of violence are central topics in European schools. With reference to evidence from the Children's Voices Project, this paper analyzes the most relevant good practices addressed to fight interethnic violence in schools. Indeed, specific activities have been organized to foster children's rights and to prevent generalized violence. Moreover, programs oriented to the promotion of integration of migrants or pupils belonging to ethnic minorities have been developed. Starting from these assumptions, selected good practices will be presented in a comparative way, in order to describe different characteristics, purposes and goals, within the context of the five countries involved in the project. The connection between school and politics can be studied from pedagogy by examining at least three fields of study, described in this paper. In the first field, pedagogy focuses on school as an object of national and international policies; in the second, it studies the political training carried out by the school through the education of civic and democratic conscience; in the third, it takes into consideration the school as the responsible for its own policy, studying its decision-making processes and its spaces of autonomy. For each of these fields, pedagogy can play a critical and prospective role, first of all proposing its own vision of school. In brief, the paper proposes the principle of school as a common good.

- Abstract
Most countries in the industrialized world have recently undergone or are currently undergoing processes of reform of their school systems: the statecentered model which ruled education in the 20th century seems to have been replaced by a different pattern, one that conceives of schools as autonomous, self-administered centers of learning. In Italy, however, the shift to a system focussed on effectiveness, research and accountability appears to be more difficult than elsewhere, due to the peculiar features of the Italian cultural and political tradition. This paper sketches a brief history of school reforms in Italy, from the Fascist regime to the present day: by thus doing, it aims at providing some background information for the current debate on school reform, while attempting to shed some light on the critical issues of the day. The paper discusses the use of music in education in a general pedagogical perspective. The Author begins with a very famous quotation from Plato’s Protagora about the effect of music on the harmonious development of young children’s attitudes and habits, and on shaping their minds. In the Author’s opinion, the loss of consideration of music teaching in school is nowadays due to its representation (in both parents’, teachers’ and pupils’ minds) as “a play”, or as a specific profession, ignoring its essential function of intellectual and emotional balance; an achievement that young people could obtain through musical education. Besides, music is also a part of our cultural heritage that creates and consolidates social bonds. Lastly the paper deals with some methodological aspects and problems that teachers face in concrete didactic school setting.

The contexts of the Global South offer, in many ways, a rich and fertile field of experimentation full of new opportunities. The reduction of regulatory constraints, for example, stimulates a renewed investigation of the relationship between space and function; economic constraints are a means of avoiding the most commonplace construction models; and the encounter between different cultures facilitates expressive contamination. Among these projects, the school building plays a significant role, representing the most important infrastructure carried out in the framework of International Cooperation. In the following paper, I will try to explain the reasons for this leading role by highlighting the most significant aspects that recent school buildings have highlighted.

The paper presents the first results of a survey (still in progress) promoted by the QTimes - Journal of Education, Technology and Social Studies, in collaboration with the Roma TrE - Education Foundation (University of Roma Tre) and National IRASE (Academic, Social and Educational Research Institute) on Distance Teaching at the time of COVID/19. The study, which involved teachers, students (of the school and university) and parents, aims to detect opinions on how to carry out the online activities, considering the effects produced at the new organization of times and spaces, new ways of relating and what online teaching meant in terms of availability of the digital tools necessary for teaching. The results of the survey will help to clarify matters, criticality, but, also, the potential of online teaching, to verify their replicability even in normal conditions of carrying out educational activities. This paper describes the results of a first partial data-exstraction, dated July 7, 2020, which refers to a total of 4967 responses (with an online questionnaire) on the impact of online teaching on the education system. The paper’s focus will be the results emerged from school teachers’ responses. The data, presented only in general terms, will be analyzed through a more detailed statistical analysis and indicated in the final report. The research is configured as an exploratory pilot study and we hope that it will stimulate reflections on the online teaching and as a basis for further studies and researches.

This paper examines the long-debated issues regarding the attribution, textual typology, and destination of the so-called mulieris oratio contained in the Didot papyrus (P. Louvre 7171+7172) and edited by Kassel and Austin as adesp. com. fr. 1000. It aims to refute the view (suggested in the past and resumed and re-elaborated more recently) that the fragment is a school exercise in poetic composition, inspired in particular by Pamphile’s rhesis in Menander’s Epitrepontes (799-835). The argumentation rests on the distinction between the level of the composition of the mulieris oratio and the level of its reception in the papyrus. The discussion includes a literary and stylistic analysis of the text as well as observations on the scholastic reception of dramatic literature (Menander in particular) in antiquity. Regarding the attribution of the fragment, the paper supports the stance that it was written by a poet of New Comedy.

This paper presents an experience of digital education carried out in 77 Florentine school classes, thanks to a project realized by the libraries of the Municipality of Florence. The 144 meetings are discussed to start a reflection generating from real, field-collected data about what is being done in schools in digital education today, about what could be done and what, perhaps, should be done. One of the most interesting facts emerged from the meetings concerns the discrepancy between the digital knowledge that students show (to their parents and teachers) and what they really know and, consequently, what they would need to learn. Possibly, it is necessary to rethink the kind of digital education carried out in schools in Italy, perhaps considering it less as a mere subject and more as a whole new mindset and cognitive approach.

This paper analyses the laws, rules and education principles which regulated and ensured the establishment of courses to qualify as a gymnastics teacher in Italy in the second half of the 19th century. The aim of the research is to point out teaching and learning approaches applied in teachers’ schools (so-called Scuole Magistrali) and special qualifying courses (i.e. Corsi autunnali), in order to provide a better understanding of teacher professionalism. Findings regarding Italian teacher training are compared with those collected in other European states in order to highlight the extent to which teacher education programs developed according to similar paths when gymnastics became a compulsory subject in European schools.

In this paper, Remo Ceserani reflects upon the notions of canon and anthology in relation to the institutions behind them. After a short premise in which the traditional role of Church and school in the process of canonization is taken into account, the discussion moves to the present age, focusing on the idea of canon that lies at the basis of both North-American and Italian anthologies. In the former case, Ceserani highlights how the emergence of world literature has led to revise the structure of anthologies; in the latter case, the author argues that the canon mutuated from the work of Francesco De Sanctis still functions as the main source for many anthologies. He then concludes by stating that a thematical approach could constitute an alternative structuring criterion for a scholastic anthology.

The paper deals with the reflection on the opportunities and risks connected to mixed methods in educational research moving from the empirical research “Valutazione e governance della scuola. Verso un sistema valutativo context-based”; this one aimed to know about school assessment and evaluation practices in order to develop an effective governance of the school. The issue is addressed at epistemological level focusing initially on the reasons that make the mixed methods particularly suitable for research in education and then specifying the cultural resistance still present in the Italian context. The overcoming of the rigid distinction between quantity and quality, widely supported in the international literature although still subject to debate, is argued according to the specific methodological device designed and implemented in the research. The elements put in evidence are read critically in order to enrich the theoretical frame.

This paper proposes to reconstruct the historical context of Discourses, Book 3, by analysing the information relating to Epictetus’ school in Nicopolis, to the listeners and to the moral and social significance of the teaching, then more broadly to the social and intellectual relations of the Stoic philosopher, and to his positioning in relation to other contemporary Greek and Roman intellectuals. The identifications of the named characters are discussed, and new arguments are brought forward in favour of identifying an Apollonius mentioned in Discourses, 3, 12, 17 with the Neopythagorean philosopher from the town of Tyana.

Upravo iz navedenih potreba za što kvalitetnijom pripremom i polaskom djece u školu, rad pruža određene didaktičko-metodičke i psihološke smjernice odgajateljima, roditeljima i učiteljima prvoškolaca, s ciljem dječjeg efi kasnijeg odgoja i obrazovanja u jednom od najvažnijih životnih prekretnica − početku školovanja, The fi rst impression of school is the key of a child’s further succes in her/his schooling so we can consider the preparation and the fi rst day of school to be one of the most important moments in a lifelong education. This could be the reason why the fi rst days of school are stressful moments for parents too, as well as for everyone else who is directly or indirectly involved in child’s pre-school education, at home or in kindergarten. However, the preparation for the school itself cannot guarantee that the child will accept school activities and get used to them. First grade teachers, who also need to be specially prepared for organisation and management of „the fi rst steps“ of schoolchildren, play the key role in this situation. According to all above-mentioned necessities for better preparation of children for their fi rst day in school, this paper gives specifi c didactic-methodical and psychological guidelines for pre-school teachers, parents and fi rst grade teachers; the aim of the paper is to enable effi cient child’s education and preparation for the one of the most important moments in child’s life: the fi rst day of school., La prima impressione che i bambini hanno della scuola spesso determina il successo nell’ulteriore educazione del bambino.

Istraživanja provedena na učenicima osnovnih i srednjih škola pokazuju da učenici u velikoj mjeri nisu spremni za donošenje profesionalnih odluka kada se to od njih očekuje te se sugerira potreba da profesionalno usmjeravanje bude implicitna aktivnost cjelokupnog odgojno- obrazovnog procesa., The Council of Ministers of the European Union in its Resolution defined career guidance as a set of activities that enables individuals to identify their capabilities, competencies and interests at different times of life in order to make decisions about education, training, and to be able to manage their professional career. Most of the activities related to the institutionalized and organized professional orientation in Croatia are connected to public service employment (Croatian Employment Office). This paper addresses the problem of career guidance in terms of the roles and responsibilities of school, which, together with family, has a long term influence on the career guidance for young people. The paper presents a historical overview of career guidance in Croatia and a review of theories and factors of career guidance. Especially distinguished is school as a factor in career guidance and the impact and influence of school on career guidance for young people are discussed here. Modern society requires an individual who is capable of making independent decisions about her/his professional development in different periods of life. Researches on students in elementary and secondary schools show that students are significantly under-prepared for making professional decisions when expected of them.

In this paper we present the "Learning4All" (L4ALL) project, which has the aim of developing knowledge about how technology and pedagogy influence the quality of educational experiences. Our approach is empirical rather than theoretical: instead of scavenging literature, we collect credible evidence from Italian teachers on the job who create innovation in schools using technology. The concrete result of the project will be an online repository of hundreds of experiences, carried out in classes of all levels of schooling, where technology was skillfully combined with pedagogical solutions to generate substantial educational benefits. A specific focus is on inclusion, i.e. detecting how diverse needs (for underperforming or over performing pupils) were considered. This paper describes the project approach, the investigation tools developed so far and how they were used.

For some years now, leadership and, more recently, e-leadership are topics on which researchers and policy makers have focused on. These concepts had initially been borrowed from other contexts, but over time they have taken on specific meanings in the educational field, also by producing several orientations. This paper, based on more significant models, aims at carrying out an in-depth analysis of the different forms of leadership and educational leadership, together with the skills that are needed to activate a good e-leadership. It proposes some examples of methods and tools that can facilitate the exercise of these skills. Leadership e e-leadership nella scuola.
