To qualify the risk of extreme weather events for power supply security during the long-term power system transformation process, this paper proposes a risk probability evaluation method based on probabilistic production simulation. Firstly, the internal relationship of extreme weather intensity and duration is depicted using the copula function, and the influences of extreme weather on power security are described using the guaranteed power output ability coefficient, which can provide the extreme scenario basis for probabilistic production simulation. Then, a probabilistic production simulation method is proposed, which includes a typical-year scenario and extreme weather events. Meanwhile, an index system is proposed to qualify the power security level, which applies the loss of load expectation (LOLE) and time of loss of load expectation (TOLE) under different scenarios and other indices to reveal the long-term power security trend. Finally, the long-term power supply risks for the Yunnan provincial power system are analyzed using the proposed method, validating that the proposed method is capable of characterizing the influences of extreme weather on power security. Simple Summary: In this paper, a new Pareas species of the P. hamptoni complex is described from southern Yunnan Province, China, based on morphological and molecular evidence. Genetically, the new species is most closely related to P. hamptoni sensu stricto, for which we confirm the distribution in China. Morphologically, the new species can be distinguished from P. hamptoni sensu stricto and all other congeners by a combination of morphological characteristics. The discovery of the new species brings the total number of recognized species of the genus Pareas to 31, of which 25 occur in China. We describe a new species of the genus Pareas, based on three specimens collected from Guanyinshan Provincial Nature Reserve in Yuanyang County, Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by one preocular, one postocular or postocular fused with subocular, loreal not bordering the orbit, one row enlarged vertebral scales, five rows keeled mid-dorsal scales at the middle of the body, 189–192 ventral scales and 72–89 subcaudal scales. The dorsal surfaces of the head and body are yellowish red or yellowish brown, and the belly and ventral surfaces of the head and tail are pinkish yellow or yellow with more or less small black spots. Phylogenetic analyses of mitochondrial DNA recovered the new species being the sister taxon to P. hamptoni sensu stricto. The genetic divergences between the new species and P. hamptoni sensu stricto were 4.2% in the Cyt b sequences and 5.0% in the ND4 sequences. Milk fan is an acid-curd cheese with strong national characteristics (a traditional dairy product of the Bai nationality with a shape like a piece of paper) and a long history in Yunnan province, China. In our previous study, we characterized the microbial community diversity of milk fan, but the succession of microorganisms associated with flavor formation in milk fan is still unknown. Therefore, we examined the predominant microorganisms and their correlations with the formation of flavor in the fermentation of sour juice and drying of milk fan by gas chromatography mass spectrometry, high-throughput 16S rDNA sequencing, intergenic spacer sequencing and metatranscriptome analysis. We found that the relative abundances of Lactobacillus and Issatchenkia initially decreased and then increased with time during the fermentation of sour juice. However, the relative abundances of Acetobacter , Leuconostoc , Lactococcus, Geotrichum , and Dipodascus initially increased and then decreased. During the drying step, the relative abundances of Lactobacillus and Issatchenkia continuously increased and became the dominant microorganisms in the milk fan. The metatranscriptomes generated from the milk fan showed that "carbohydrate metabolism," "translation," and "signal transduction" were the main metabolic functions of the microbial communities. Rhodotorula and Yarrowia contained more differentially expressed genes than other genera, which indicated they may be associated with the production of the characteristic flavor. Furthermore, a Pearson correlation analysis showed that Lactococcus , Rhodotorula , Candida , Cutaneotrichosporon , and Yarrowia were significantly positively correlated with more aroma-active compounds, mainly ethyl acetate, 2-heptanone, isovaleraldehyde, butyric acid, nonanal, and hexanal. Accurate taxonomical identification is an extremely important basis for stick insect research, including evolutionary biology but also applied biology such as pest control. In addition, genetic methods are a valuable identification auxiliary technology at present. Therefore, this paper used morphological and molecular data to investigate five stick insect specimens from the genus Cnipsomorpha in Yunnan, successfully identifying two new species: Cnipsomorpha yunnanensis Xu, Jiang & Yang, sp. nov. and C. yuxiensis Xu, Jiang & Yang, sp. nov. A phylogenetic tree was constructed through their 28S and COI genes in order to infer the phylogenetic position of the two new species. Simple Summary: In March 2020, a group of wild Asian elephants suddenly roamed north from China's Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve and subsequently arrived in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, which has aroused widespread concern in the society. Based on this event, this study attempted to identify the possible migration routes of Asian elephants according to the existing land conditions and the movement habits of Asian elephants if wild Asian elephants in China migrated again. It was found that the areas with a high probability of migration by Asian elephants were mainly concentrated in the gently undulating shrubs, bamboo forests, and grasslands. Moreover, dense forests with steep slopes and high altitudes, cultivated land, and construction land are less likely to be passed by Asian elephants. Our findings can not only provide valuable insights into suggestions and solutions for the current conservation of wild Asian elephant species but also be beneficial in biological protection and biological reserve planning. Humans overlap with Asian elephants, resulting in frequent costly human–elephant conflicts, which disturb and even threaten local residents. In this study, we treat provincial and national nature reserves where Asian elephants still exist and other alternative habitats suitable for Asian elephants in southern Yunnan, China, as ecological patches. By using this approach, we can treat the terrain and surface state factors that hinder the migration of Asian elephants as a form of ecological resistance surface. We can then use a circuit theory model and remote sensing data to construct an ecological network, which allows us to identify ecological corridors and ecological pinch points. Herein, the possible migration routes of wild Asian elephants were identified. The main results are as follows: (1) In the study area, dense forests with steep slopes and high altitudes, cultivated land, and building land have greater migration resistance, while the gently undulating shrubs, bamboo forests, and grasslands far away from the city have less migration resistance. (2) There are three ecological corridor groups in the study area, mainly composed of shrub and grassland. The ecological corridors identified in this paper are the most likely migration routes of wild Asian elephants in China, and areas with higher simulated current densities reflect a higher probability of Asian elephants passing through. (3) According to the analysis, the ecological pinch points in the study area are 602 km2 in total, and woodland and grassland account for 89.2% of the total ecological pinch area. The areas where the pinch points are located have a high probability of Asian elephants passing through and a narrow space. Our findings can provide suggestions and solutions for the current conservation of wild Asian elephant species, alleviate human–elephant conflicts, promote the harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, and provide reference for biological protection and biological reserve planning. The development of foreign electricity markets has been relatively complete, while China's electricity market started late and the design of the market mechanism needs to be improved, so the selection of a suitable market model and the design of the market mechanism in hydropower‐rich regions is conducive to the healthy development of the electricity market. While most of the first eight pilot regions in China have entered the long‐period continuous operation stage, and all the second batch of six power spot pilots have started the simulation trial run. However, the construction of power markets in hydropower‐rich regions of China, Sichuan, and Yunnan, still faces multiple problems to be solved, such as ensuring the reliability of medium‐ and long‐term power supply, improving the efficiency of hydropower resources utilization and consumption scale, and maintaining the stability of market prices. In this paper, the authors establish a multi‐scale joint clearing model for different market models considering both long‐term and short‐term operation strategies, and conduct simulations of different market models at different time scales to compare and analyze the optimization results and electricity price fluctuations of different market models. It can stabilize the market price and reasonably reflect the true value of hydropower, and also promote the consumption of clean energy and guarantee the reliability of power supply in the medium and long terms. Finally, suggestions are made for the selection of electricity market models, the security of energy supply and the design of sustainable development mechanisms for hydropower in hydropower‐rich regions such as Yunnan and Sichuan in China, with a view to providing useful references for the construction of China's electricity market. In this paper, the subgenus Thailandia Bílý, 1990 of the genus Anthaxia Eschscholtz, 1829 from China is reported, including two species: A. (T.) svatoplukbilyi Qi & Song, sp. nov. from Guangxi and A. (T.) rondoni Baudon, 1962 from Yunnan. The description and illustrations of the new species are provided, the illustrations and information of A. The Bainiuchang Ag polymetallic deposit is located at the junction between the Cathaysia, Yangtze, China and Indosinian blocks. It has experienced many geological events, and records excellent conditions for multiple mineralization. In this paper, elemental correlation analysis, cluster analysis, factor analysis, a semivariogram of Zn/Pb values, mineralization distribution and trend surface analysis have been carried out based on the prospecting database and ore body model. Our results show that Ag–Pb–Zn were mineralized at moderate temperatures. Tin was mineralized at high temperatures, and Sn and Zn/Pb values are well correlated. The Zn/Pb values can be used for tracing the ore-forming fluid. The semivariogram revealed that the Zn/Pb values are moderately spatially dependent, with good mineralization continuity in the 100° and 10° directions. The spatial pattern of the elemental grade correlates with mineralization enrichment. The trend surface analysis shows that the Ag, Pb, Zn, and Cu mineralization is weak in the south and strong in the north of the deposit, and the Sn grades and Zn/Pb values are high in the south and low in the north. High-temperature Sn, medium-temperature Cu, and medium-temperature Ag–Pb–Zn mineralization have occurred in a south-to-north trend. Therefore, the source of the ore-forming fluid was in the southern part of the mining area. During the migration of the ore-forming fluid from south to north, different minerals were precipitated due to changes in the physicochemical environment. The spatial patterns of mineralization may provide a basis for studying the formation of the ore deposit, and can guide ore exploration and mining in the mine area and similar ore deposits elsewhere. In this paper one new species namely Eumenes ferruapiculus sp. nov., from Yunnan (China) is described and illustrated in detail. In addition, E. affinissimus de Saussure, 1852, E. aquilonius Yamane, 1977, E. belli Giordani Soika, 1973, E. gibbosus Nguyen, 2015, and E. rubrofemoratus Giordani Soika, 1941 are newly recorded from China. Landslides are one of the extremely high-incidence and serious-loss geological disasters in the world, and the early monitoring and warning of landslides are of great importance. The Cheyiping landslide, located in western Yunnan Province, China, added many cracks and dislocations to the surface of the slope due to the severe seasonal rainfall and rise of the water level, which seriously threaten the safety of residents and roads located on the body and foot of the slope. To investigate the movement of the landslide, this paper used Sentinel-1A SAR data processed by time-series interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technology to monitor the long-time surface deformation. The landslide boundary was defined, then the spatial distribution of landslide surface deformation from 5 January 2018 to 27 December 2021 was obtained. According to the monthly rainfall data and the temporal deformation results, the movement of the landslide was highly correlated with seasonal rainfall, and the Cheyiping landslide underwent seasonal sectional accelerated deformation. Moreover, the water level change of the Lancang River caused by the water storage of the hydropower station and seasonal rainfall accelerates the deformation of the landslide. The southwestern South China Block is one of the most important Sn polymetallic ore districts in the world, of which the Dulong Sn-Zn polymetallic deposit, closely related to Late Cretaceous granitic magmatism, contains 0.4 Mt Sn, 5.0 Mt Zn, 0.2 Mt Pb, and 7 Kt In, and is one of the largest Sn-Zn polymetallic deposits in this region. In this paper, on the basis of a 3D model of ore bodies established by the cut-off grade of the main ore-forming elements, the In grades were estimated by the ordinary Kriging method and the In-rich cells were extracted. The 3D models of strata, faults, granites, and granite porphyries in the mining area were established and assigned the attributes to the cells, which built buffer zones representing the influence space of the geological factors. The weight of evidence and artificial neural network methods were used to quantitatively evaluate the contribution of each geological factor to mineralization. The results show that the Neoproterozoic Xinzhai Formation (Pt3x), fault (F1), and Silurian granites (S3L) have considerable control effects on the occurrence of In-rich ore bodies. The metallogenic predictions according to the spatial coupling relationship of each geological factor in 3D space were carried out, and then the 3D-space-prospecting target areas of In-rich ore bodies were delineated. In addition, the early geological maps and data information of the mining area were comprehensively integrated in 3D space. The feasibility of 3D quantitative metallogenic prediction based on the deposit model was explored by comparing the two methods, and then, the 3D-space prospecting target area was delineated. The ROC curve evaluation shows that the results of two methods have indicative value for prospecting. Simple Summary: In addition to causing dermatitis, some gamasid mites are also the vector or potential vector of some zoonotic diseases. Located in the northwest Yunnan Province of southwest China, the Three Parallel Rivers Area of China is one of the hotspots of biodiversity research in the world. Based on the previous field survey in the Three Parallel Rivers Area from 2001 to 2015, this paper reports the species diversity and basic community characteristics of gamasid mites on small mammals in this unique geographical area for the first time. From the body surface of 3830 small mammal hosts, 26,048 gamasid mites were collected and identified as 10 families, 21 genera and 82 species (excluding 847 unidentified specimens) with high species diversity. The species diversity of the gamasid mite community fluctuated greatly in different elevation gradients. The highest peaks of species richness and β diversity appeared at altitudes of 3000–3500 m (S = 42) and 1500–2000 m (β = 17.5), respectively. The species abundance distribution of the mites was successfully fitted by Preston's lognormal model, and the total number of gamasid mite species in the Three Parallel Rivers Area was estimated to be 153 species. (1) Background: Gamasid mites are a large group of arthropods, and some of them are of medical importance. Besides directly biting humans and causing dermatitis, some gamasid mites are the vector of rickettsialpox and potential vector of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). The Three Parallel Rivers Area of China is one of the hotspots of biodiversity research in the world, with complicated topographic landforms, different types of vegetation, special elevation gradients and high biodiversity. (2) Methods: Species richness (S): the Shannon–Wiener diversity index (H), Simpson dominance index (D) and Pielou evenness index (E) were used to analyze the basic community structure. The β diversity (Cody index) was used to reflect the diversity difference between any two adjacent elevation gradients. The method based on Preston's lognormal model for species abundance distribution was used to estimate the total number of gamasid mite species. (3) Results: A total of 3830 small mammal hosts captured from the nine survey sites were identified as 44 species, 27 genera and nine families in five orders. Apodemus chevrieri, Eothenomys miletus and A. draco were the dominant host species with a total constituent ratio Cr = 52.037%. From the body surface of the hosts, 26,048 gamasid mites were collected and identified as 10 families, 21 genera and 82 species (excluding 847 unidentified specimens) with high species richness (S = 82) and diversity (H = 2.33). The three dominant mite species were Dipolaelaps anourosorecis, Laelaps nuttalli and L. echidninus, with a total Cr = 64.46% (16,791/26,048). There are significant differences in the species composition, species diversity and dominant species of gamasid mites on different hosts. The species diversity of the mite community fluctuated greatly in different elevation gradients. The highest peaks of species richness and β diversity appeared at altitudes of 3000–3500 m (S = 42) and 1500–2000 m (β = 17.5), respectively. The species abundance distribution of the mites was successfully fitted by Preston's lognormal model with S ^ (R) = 19 e − [ 0.22 (R − 0) ] 2 (α = 0.22, R2 = 0.9879). Based on fitting the theoretical curve by Preston's model, the total number of gamasid mite species was estimated to be 153 species. (4) Conclusions: Gamasid mites on small mammals are abundant with complex community structures and high species diversity in the Three Parallel Rivers Area of China. Landslide susceptibility maps (LSM) are often used by government departments to carry out land use management and planning, which supports decision makers in urban and infrastructure planning. The accuracy of conventional landslide susceptibility maps is often affected by classification errors. Consequently, they become less reliable, which makes it difficult to meet the needs of decision-makers. Therefore, it is proposed in this paper to reduce classification errors and improve LSM reliability by integrating the Small Baseline Subsets-Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SBAS-InSAR) technique and LSM. By using the logistic regression model (LR) and the support vector machine model (SVM), experiments were conducted to generate LSM in the Dongchuan district. It was classified into five classes: very high susceptibility, high susceptibility, medium susceptibility, low susceptibility, and very low susceptibility. Then, the surface deformation rate of the Dongchuan area was obtained through the ascending and descending orbit sentinel-1A data from January 2018 to January 2021. To correct the classification errors, the SBAS-InSAR technique was integrated into LSM under the optimal model by constructing the contingency matrix. Finally, the LSMs obtained before and after correction were compared. Moreover, the correction results were validated and analyzed by combining remote sensing images, InSAR deformation results, and field surveys. According to the research results, the susceptibility class of 66,094 classification error cells (59.48 km2) was significantly improved in the LSM after the integration of the SBAS-InSAR correction. The enhanced susceptibility classes and the spectral characteristics of remote sensing images are highly consistent with the trends of InSAR cumulative deformation and the results of field investigation. It is suggested that integrating SBAS-InSAR and LSM is effective in correcting classification errors and further improving the reliability of LSM for landslide prediction. The LSM obtained by using this method plays an important role in guiding local government departments on disaster prevention and mitigation, which is conducive to eliminating the risk of landslides. Assessing the risk of cropland abandonment in mountainous area is essential for ensuring food security. However, the current evaluation indicator system is incomplete, and the reliability analysis of the results is lacking. This paper proposes a spatially comprehensive assessment method of cropland abandonment risk based on AHP and PCA using multi-source data of land use, abandoned cropland, administrative area, population density, GDP, cropland soil information, and climate, and applies the method to Yunnan Province in China. Firstly, 14 indicators were selected from four aspects, including social factors, farming conditions, cropland quality, and climate factors, to construct a three-layer indicator system of "target-criteria-indicator". Fuzzy membership was used to calculate the indicator layer, and then the PCA method was applied to calculate the first principal component for the criterion layer. Finally, the AHP method was used to calculate the weighted superposition of the criterion layer. The proposed method showed good reliability in the study areas. In Yunnan Province, 33.03% of cropland is at high risk of abandonment, 37.52% is at medium risk, and 29.45% is at low risk. The high risk area is mainly distributed in the Lancang River Basin and Honghe River Basin. Social factors were found to play the greatest role in the risk of cropland abandonment in Yunnan Province. Factors such as low population density, large shape coefficient of cropland, and low annual average precipitation were identified as the main drivers of cropland abandonment in this region. Seasonal variations in the vertical Global Positioning System (GPS) time series are mainly caused by environmental loading, e.g., hydrological loading (HYDL), atmospheric loading (ATML), and nontidal oceanic loading (NTOL), which can be synthesized based on models developed by various institutions. A comprehensive comparison among these models is essential to extract reliable vertical deformation data, especially on a regional scale. In this study, we selected 4 HYDL, 5 ATML, 2 NTOL, and their 40 combined products to investigate their effects on seasonal variations in vertical GPS time series at 27 GPS stations in Yunnan, southwest China. These products were provided by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), School and Observatory of Earth Sciences (EOST), and International Mass Loading Service (IMLS). Furthermore, we used the Cross Wavelet Transform (XWT) method to analyze the relative phase relationship between the GPS and the environmental loading time series. Our result showed that the largest average Root-Mean-Square (RMS) reduction value was 1.32 mm after removing the deformation associated with 4 HYDL from the vertical GPS time series, whereas the RMS reductions after 5 ATML and 2 NTOL model corrections were negative at most stations in Yunnan. The average RMS reduction value of the optimal combination of environmental loading products was 1.24 mm, which was worse than the HYDL (IMLS_GEOSFPIT)-only correction, indicating that HYDL was the main factor responding for seasonal variations at most stations in Yunnan. The XWT result showed that HYDL also explained the annual variations reasonably. Our finding implies that HYDL (IMLS_GEOSFPIT) contributes the most to the environmental loading in Yunnan, and that the ATML and NTOL models used in this paper cannot be effective to correct seasonal variations. Electrochemiluminescence biosensor is an analytical method combining electrochemiluminescence technology with biosensor. Using nanomaterials as electrochemical luminescence sensor platform can not only immobilize a large number of biomolecules but also improve the performance of the sensor to realize the supersensitive detection of biomacromolecules. Although these methods have high sensitivity for bioanalysis, there are still some shortcomings which limit the practical application. Therefore, this paper discusses the development of functional gold nanomaterials industry and its application in chemiluminescence bioanalysis. In this paper, two methods of synthesizing luminescent functional gold nanomaterials at room temperature were studied by using chemiluminescent reagents as reducing agent and protective agent. Based on luminescent functionalized gold nanoparticles, immunoassay and DNA bioanalysis probes were constructed, and their applications in chemiluminescence and electrochemiluminescence bioanalysis were discussed. Finally, the simulation results show that the relative deviation between the experimental results and the existing clinical methods is less than 17%. The sensor has good stability and selectivity and can be used for the determination of CEA in human serum. The gold nanomaterials synthesized by further research have excellent chemiluminescence activity and can be used to label biomolecules and prepare biological probes. This article aims to explore the application of chemical methods in the transformation of new industries, to achieve breakthroughs in new products in industrial innovation, and to achieve the cross-fusion of management science and engineering disciplines and chemical disciplines. The COVID-19 pandemic and antipandemic policies have significantly impacted highway transportation. Many studies have been conducted to quantify these impacts. However, quantitative analysis of the impacts on province-wide traffic in developing countries, such as China, is still inadequate. This paper tried to fill this gap by proposing equations to quantify the traffic variations of overall province-wide traffic and to analyze the intercity bus traffic variation and intercity bus usage, applying the K-means cluster method to conduct the analysis of traffic reductions in regions with different levels of economic development, and using the hypothesis testing for traffic recovery analysis. It is found that passenger vehicle traffic and truck traffic dropped by 59.67% and 68.19% during the outbreak, respectively. The intercity bus traffic on highways declined by 59.8% to 98.6%, and the intercity bus usage dropped by 55.6% on average. For traffic reductions in different regions, the higher the GDP per capita was, the more the traffic was affected by the pandemic. In regions with lower GDP per capita, traffic variations were minor. It is also found that the passenger vehicle traffic went through four stages in 99 days: the Decline Stage, Rapid Recovery Stage, Slow Recovery Stage, and Normal Stage, while truck traffic only experienced the Decline Stage, Rapid Recovery Stage, and Normal Stage and took 51 days to recover to the Normal Stage. In the Rapid Recovery Stage, the recovery rates were 15.6% and 12.9% per week for passenger vehicle traffic and truck traffic, respectively, and the recovery rate was only 2.1% for passenger vehicle traffic in the Slow Recovery Stage. Despite the recovery of traffic volumes, neither passenger-kilometers nor tonne-kilometers of freight in 2020 reached the same level as in 2019. These findings help the understanding of the pandemic's impacts on highway traffic for researchers and can provide valuable references for decision-makers to develop antipandemic policies. Estimating the total wind power output from the meteorological information at a province level (called Provincial Regional Wind Power Conversion Model, PRWPCM) plays vital and fundamental roles in energy modeling community and regional wind power forecasting. How to construct a reliable PRWPCM is a real challenge, since PRWPCM involves a large number of widely distributed wind turbines, massive meteorological data across the whole province, and complex nonlinear correlations. This paper proposes a lightweight PRWPCM by integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis technology and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). First, we conduct the land suitability analysis for wind turbine sites through the multi-criteria GIS layer overlay method to make the provincial wind turbine land suitability map (WTLSM) with scored divisions from the least suitable to the most suitable areas. On this basis, a new fusion mechanism for geographic and meteorological information is proposed, through which the raw meteorological data matrix can be reconstructed to filter and amplify the meteorological information that is more relevant to the total wind power output of the province, and avoid the time-consuming and labor-intensive data collection and processing, large-size model construction and validation. Second, a CNN-based regression architecture is designed to further capture the mapping relationship between the reconstructed meteorological data and total wind power output of the province; each type of meteorological factor is considered as an input channel and the attention modules are introduced to adaptively enhance useful channels and suppress less useful ones. Efforts to evaluate the susceptibility of debris flows in large areas, especially in mountainous regions, are often hampered by the alpine and canyon terrain. This paper proposes a convolution neural network (CNN) model named dense residual shuffle net (DRSNet). It is successfully applied to Nujiang Prefecture in Yunnan Province of China, a typical alpine area with frequent debris flows. DRSNet uses digital elevation model, remote sensing, lithology, soil type and precipitation data as input. First, dense connection and residual structure were used to extract the shallow features of various data. Next, channel shuffle, fuse block and fully connection were applied to strengthen the correlation between different shallow features and give inner danger scores. Finally, precipitation as the activation factor was introduced giving the valleys susceptibility. To verify the feasibility of DRSNet, comparative tests were conducted on 7 CNN models and 3 other machine learning (ML) methods. Experimental results show that DRSNet can achieve 78.6% accuracy in debris flow valley classification, which is at least 7.4% higher than common CNN models and 15.2% higher than other ML methods. The security and socioeconomic development of China's border areas are of great significance to the nation and the wider world. Using census, statistical, digital elevation model (DEM) and network data, this paper employs visual analysis to capture population distribution patterns in China's 131 border counties from 1982 to 2010. Multiple stepwise regression is carried out to identify the influencing factors of population dynamics in border regions. The main findings include: China's most heavily populated border areas are primarily in the northeast, northwest, and the Guangxi-Yunnan region, while rapid growth of population is found in western Inner Mongolia, southwest Xinjiang, northwest Tibet, and southern Yunnan. Given the increasingly market-oriented migration mechanism, the national reclamation policy has been no longer effective in population attraction in the new century. Education has significantly lowered and will continuously lower the fertility rate in remote border areas. Aeschynanthus fulgens Wall. ex R. Br. is newly recorded from Cangyuan County, Yunnan in China. In this paper, Chinese description of the species was enriched, its voucher specimen and pictures were also supplemented. The pollen morphological characteristics of A. fulgens Wall. ex R. Br. and A. hookeri C. B. Clarke were compared, and the differences of pollen morphology and the ornamentations of the two were found to be significant. The Tai Lue of Sipsong Panna (Chinese: Xishuangbanna), in southern Yunnan Province, are usually identified as the largest community of Theravada Buddhists in China. Following the end of the repression of the Maoist period, Sipsong Panna monastics have gradually incorporated into regional and global Buddhist networks. Within this context of increasing connectivity and visibility, the public participation of Tai Lue monks and novices in practices usually considered inappropriate and even unacceptable for monastics in China and Southeast Asia has become problematized and identified as proof of 'ignorance' or 'defectiveness' on the part of this minority religious community. Building on long-term fieldwork among monastics in Sipsong Panna, this paper questions popular and academic portrayals of such unorthodox monasticism as a symptom of backwardness and degeneration, using the notion of 'cultural intimacy' (Herzfeld 1996) to offer innovative insights onto the articulation of contemporary forms of Buddhist monasticism, and onto anthropological debates concerning their conceptualization. A survey of mushrooms was conducted in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, China, in the rainy season (May to October) of 2012, 2013, and 2014, during which 16 specimens of Termitomyces were collected. Preliminary macro- and micro-characteristics, together with ITS sequence data, showed that four of the specimens belonged to a new species (Termitomyces fragilis), while the other 12 belonged to T. aurantiacus, T. eurrhizus, T. globules, T. microcarpus, and T. bulborhizus. In this paper, T. fragilis is introduced as a species new to science based on morphological characterization and phylogenetic analyses. Macro- and micro- morphological descriptions, color photographs and line drawings of the new species, and a phylogenetic tree to show the placement of the new species are provided. Many water footprint studies have been conducted on those water scarce regions to respond their water crisis, while water rich regions also face water sustainability challenges due to inadequate water management or being virtual water exporter. Therefore, this paper tries to clarify the water footprint and detail virtual water flow features of a water-rich province, namely Yunnan province in China, to pursuit for more enlightenment for water conservation of not only water scarce regions but also water abundant regions. Multi-regional input-output (MRIO) method was adopted for water footprint and virtual water flow calculation. Results showed that the total water footprint of Yunnan was 11.35 billion m3, with 7.98 billion m3 (70%) of internal water footprint, demonstrating that Yunnan was a high water self-sufficient province. Moreover, Yunnan was a net virtual water exporter with a value of 1.18 billion m3, which was not good for Yunnan but was good for water scarce provinces. As for the detailed virtual water flow trade, high water intensity Guangxi, Hunan, Xinjiang were the top three net importers of Yunnan, while low water intensity Guangdong, Shanghai and Zhejiang were the top three export provinces of Yunnan. This did not affect Yunnan, but was not a good phenomenon for water sustainability of whole China. Moreover, agricultural sector was found to be the dominant sector for both virtual water import and export, accounting for about 88% and 86%, respectively. To maintain sustainable water management of both Yunnan and China, policy insights on keeping Yunnan as a net virtual water exporter, making use of its advantage in green water, adjusting trade structure by considering provincial water intensity were proposed. The huntsman spider genus Pseudopoda Jäger, 2000 contains 140 species worldwide, of which 61 have been described from China. In this paper, this knowledge is increased by the description of two new species from Yunnan Province in China. These new species, P. physematosa sp. nov. (♀) and P. semilunata sp. nov. (♂♀), are treated with five previously described ones, P. bibulba Xu & Yin, 2000 (♂♀), P. signata Jäger, 2001 (♂♀), P. wu Jäger, Li & Krehenwinkel, 2015 (♂♀), P. yinae Jäger & Vedel, 2007 (♂), and P. yunnanensis Yang & Hu, 2001 (♂♀), as the newly defined Pseudopoda signata species group. The P. signata group can be distinguished from other groups within Pseudopoda by the male palps with long, slightly broad, S-shaped embolus, small but distinct tegular apophysis, pronounced dRTA and reduced vRTA, and by the female with V-shaped or W-shaped anterior margins of lateral lobes, membranous and wide first winding, long and strongly curved SIDS (sclerotised internal duct system), the latter mostly covered by the first winding. The monophyly of this group is also supported by molecular phylogenetic results mainly based on Chinese Pseudopoda species. In addition, photographs of P. bibulba (♂♀), P. signata (♂♀), and P. yunnanensis (♂♀) are provided. The influence of mining activities on groundwater quality is a growing concern due to highly toxic metals in the tailings. Carbonate rocks are common in the surrounding rocks of ore deposits. But such mining districts generally do not have the conditions to construct traditional tailings impoundments due to the different degrees of karstification. This paper utilises field investigations, chemical analyses, and permeability tests, etc. to study the effect of tailings impoundments on the underlying karst water systems in the Gejiu world-class Sn-polymetallic mine located in a typical karst region in southern China, with samples collected from both karst springs deriving from the mining area and tailings porewater. Because of the abundance of sulphide minerals in the ores, acid mine drainage is expected to pose a high risk. However, the results indicate that the tailings porewater is moderately neutral and is characterized by the SO4–Ca–Mg hydrochemical type. This can be attributed to the substantial buffering capacity of carbonate minerals. Pollution elements in the tailings porewater mainly include SO42− and toxic metals including As, Cd, Mn, Pb, and Hg. The type of pollution factors and the degree of contamination are not consistent in the different tailings impoundments. The hydrochemical classification of four karst springs distributed in the south of the mining area is HCO3–Ca–Mg. The concentrations of SO42− and the toxic constituents in the springs are far below the national standards for drinking water. The spring water not being contaminated may be attributed to the operation mode of the tailings impoundments (peripheral discharge and reuse of ponded water), the residual clay between the tailings impoundments and the carbonate bedrocks and the sufficient buffering capacity of the underlying karst systems. Altered volcanic ash with highly-elevated concentrations of Nb(Ta), Zr(Hf), Ga, and rare earth elements and yttrium (REY) is an untraditional type of critical metal deposit that has been discovered in Yunnan Province, southwest China. Previous studies have briefly described the modes of occurrence of Nb(Ta)-Zr(Hf)-REY-Ga in the ore deposit, showing that Zr and Hf are mostly hosted in zircon; light rare earth elements (LREE) mainly occur in REY-bearing carbonates and phosphates; Nb and Ta are primarily hosted in the former Fe-Ti oxide phases and zircon; and Ga is predominantly associated with clay minerals. However, previous studies of the modes of occurrence of critical metal elements (Nb-Ta-Zr-Hf-REY-Ga) have been limited to qualitative or semi-quantitative studies of individual mineral grains, and quantitative research of the modes of occurrence of these elements in whole rocks is absent. This paper quantifies the modes of occurrence of critical elements (Nb-Ta-Zr-Hf-REY-Ga) using a sequential chemical extraction method. The results show that about 65.3–86.7% Nb is associated with hydrofluoric acid (HF)-soluble aluminosilicates (clays) and 13.3–34.7% in the insoluble phases such as Nb-rutile. Approximately 87.6–90.2% Zr is the primary hosted in zircon and 9.5–12.0% Zr appears to be associated with HF-soluble aluminosilicates in the altered volcanic ash. In felsic altered volcanic ashes (Al 2 O 3 /TiO 2 ratio between 21 and 70), the REY are predominantly in the authigenic minerals such as REY-bearing aluminum phosphates and sulfates of the alunite supergroup (APS minerals), carbonates or fluorocarbonates. About 74.0–89.4% LREE, 26.5–34.2% middle rare earth elements (MREY), and 22.1–24.8% heavy rare earth elements (HREE) occur in HF-soluble aluminosilicates. In intermediate altered volcanic ash samples (Al 2 O 3 /TiO 2 ratio between 8 and 21), 93.0% LREE are associated with insoluble phases such as monazite and zircon. Abstract Invasive alien species pose great threats to ecological and economic health and cause enormous losses to global ecosystems. The Mikania micrantha management program is a source of great theoretical and practical insights for regional agricultural and forestry development. In this paper, the invasion history and distribution patterns of M. micrantha in the China-Myanmar Border Region are summarized, and the short-term and long-term performance of the current post-border management program are evaluated. A literature survey found that M. micrantha was mainly distributed in 85 townships of five municipalities along the border in China with Myanmar, suggesting an explicit border-crossing scenario of M. micrantha. The M. micrantha management program has produced positive but short-term results due to the conduction of general investigations, establishment of an extensive monitoring network, development of integrated measures, and improvements of public awareness and participation. However, the long-term management performance was hampered by overlapping departmental functions, lagging and unreliable public feedback, inadequate funding, and biased and passive strategies. We suggest that invasive species committees, social media tools, public-private partnership, and forest restoration and conservation and biological control could greatly improve the situation. This regional-scale research provides referential insights for the development of biological invasion management systems in developing economies under transboundary contexts. Abstract A high-fill slope located in Zhenxiong County, Yunnan Province, China, was designed for building placement on its top platform. A reinforcement system consisting of a geogrid, front stability piles (FSPs), retaining sheets, prestressed anchors, and rear deeply buried piles (DBPs) has been used to stabilize the slope. Two typical slope sections were selected to study the high-fill slope stability and retaining mechanism of the reinforcement system. Field measurements of the horizontal displacement and strain in the piles, as well as the anchor working load, were collected and analyzed. In addition, a series of two-dimensional finite element method (FEM) analyses combined with a strength reduction technique was conducted to analyze two selected cross sections. The results show that the retaining structure behavior is closely related to the fill construction process of a high-fill slope. The deflection of the stabilizing pile increases almost linearly with the filling height in the initial stage of fill construction. The variation in the working load of the prestressed anchor shows an offset between prestress loss and increasing fill pressure. The FEM results can provide insight into the pile-soil interaction mechanism and its contribution to fill slope stabilization. The FSPs shift the sliding surface from through the slope toe to through the top of the FSPs. The anchors can reduce the bending moment by supplying additional bearing points. The DBPs can share a portion of the sliding thrust and effectively enhance the safety factor. This paper provides a reference for reinforcement system design for similar engineering projects considering high-fill slopes. This paper describes the study of the relationship between the thermal configuration of the Bay of Bengal (BOB)-Tibetan Plateau (TP) region and the precipitation anomaly in Yunnan, a province in China, in May using ERA-Interim data and precipitation data for May from 125 meteorological stations across Yunnan for 1979-2014. Results from the analysis indicate that the interannual variability of May precipitation in Yunnan is significantly modulated by the BOB-TP thermal configuration. Model runs with a linear baroclinic model suggest physical consistency. The thermal conditions over the BOB mainly impact the May precipitation anomaly in Yunnan via changes in water vapor transport from the eastern BOB northeastward to southwestern Yunnan. The second factor influencing precipitation anomalies relates to the characteristics and variability of cold air transport from the TP to northeastern Yunnan. When the BOB (the TP) is occupied by positive (negative) diabatic heating, a thermal gradient with a warmer (colder) center over the BOB and a colder (warmer) center over the TP is established, and more-than-normal (less than normal) precipitation in Yunnan will occur in May. This relationship can persist from April to the following May to some extent; therefore, the BOB-TP thermal configuration in April could be used to forecast May precipitation in Yunnan. The urban agglomeration area is a heavy disaster area of PM2.5 pollution, and the problem of PM2.5 pollution seriously affects the natural environment and public health. Accurate prediction of PM2.5 concentrations in urban agglomerations is the basis for effective environmental management. Deep learning methods such as Bi-directional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM) and Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) have been applied to PM2.5 concentration prediction in urban agglomerations. However, the existing research methods have low prediction accuracy and poor practicality, and lack a universal method to accurately predict PM2.5 concentrations in 19 urban agglomerations of China. Based on this, this paper combines BiLSTM and CNN, and introduces a Learning Rate Schedule (LRS) to propose a hybrid model of LRS + BiLSTM + CNN. This model combines the advantages of BiLSTM and CNN to extract temporal and spatial features of PM2.5 data. In addition, LRS is introduced in the process of model training, which dynamically adjusts the learning rate of the network model and reduces the training cost of the model. Finally, the daily average datasets of six air qualities from nineteen urban agglomerations of China are used as examples, and seven benchmark network models, CNN, Long Short-Term Memory, BiLSTM, CNN + LSTM, LSTM + CNN, and CNN + BiLSTM, are considered for validation experiments. The results show that the prediction effect of the proposed model is significantly better than that of the benchmark model in 17 urban agglomerations, such as Mid-southern Liaoning urban agglomerations and Central Yunnan urban agglomeration. Compared with the above seven benchmark models, the prediction accuracy is improved by 12.7%, 8.9%, 12.4%, 12.8%, 16.4%, 19.7%, 9.5%; 10.2%, 24.2%, 14.4%, 17.9%, 18.4%, 19.9% and 2.6% respectively. The LRS is fully applicable to nineteen urban agglomerations, which has clear effects on the optimization of the network model. LRS + BiLSTM + CNN has high accuracy and practicality in predicting PM2.5 concentrations in urban agglomeration areas in China, and can provide effective technical support for environmental governance of urban agglomeration areas. [Display omitted] • The Songshan tin deposit occurred at the end of Late Cretaceous, not in Triassic as previous suggested. • The end of Late Cretaceous is another important tin metallogenic period in the Lancangjiang tin belt. • The tin mineralization not only can occur in the magmatic arc, but also in the hinterland behind the magmatic arc. The Songshan tin deposit is located in the northern Lincang granitic batholith along the Lancangjiang tin belt, Western Yunnan, southwestern China. The ore bodies mainly occur as tourmaline-quartz veins with NNE- and/or NW-trending in the Triassic Pinghejie granitic pluton, and the schist of the Proterozoic Songshan Formation. The previous study suggested the tin mineralization in the Songshan deposit should occur in the Triassic, but no directed age data support it. This hinders the understanding of the genesis of the Songshan tin deposit, especially the tin mineralization in the Lancangjiang tin belt. Here, we report the zircons U-Pb ages of 222.7 ± 1.6 and 222.0 ± 2.4 Ma for the granodiorite, 215.1 ± 1.5 and 223.0 ± 2.0 Ma for the biotite monzogranite, and 222.3 ± 2.3 Ma for the alter granite from the Pinghejie granitic pluton. The monazite from the monzogranite yields a U-Pb age of 212.8 ± 1.9 Ma. We also obtain two garnet U-Pb ages of 215.1 ± 8.7 Ma and 213.5 ± 7.2 Ma from skarn, and two cassiterite U-Pb ages of 76.6 ± 1.5 Ma and 79.6 ± 3.6 Ma from tin ores. These data suggest that tin mineralization in the Songshan deposit occurred at the end of Late Cretaceous, which is quite different from the ages of the Pinghejie granitic pluton emplaced and the formation of skarn. The zircon Hf isotopes (εHf(t) = –22 ∼ -12) and monazite Nd isotopes (εNd(t) = -13.04 ∼ -11.80) indicate that the Pinghejie granitic pluton was derived from the remelting of Paleoproterozoic crust. The paper concluded that the tin mineralization in the Songshan deposit occurred at the end of Late Cretaceous. It is another important metallogenic period in the Lancangjiang tin belt, which may be related to the subduction of the NeoTethys oceanic crust. This paper reports the mineralogical and geochemical compositions of the Late Permian C2, C5a, C5b, C6a, and C6b semianthracite coals from the Mahe mine, northeastern Yunnan, China. Minerals in the coals are mainly made up of quartz, chamosite, kaolinite, mixed-layer illite/smectite (I/S), pyrite, and calcite; followed by anatase, dolomite, siderite, illite and marcasite. Similar to the Late Permian coals from eastern Yunnan, the authigenic quartz and chamosite were precipitated from the weathering solution of Emeishan basalt, while kaolinite and mixed-layer I/S occurring as lenses or thin beds were related to the weathering residual detrital of Emeishan basalt. However, the euhedral quartz and apatite particles in the Mahe coals were attributed to silicic-rock detrital input. It further indicates that there has been silicic igneous eruption in the northeastern Yunnan. Due to the silicic rock detrital input, the Eu/Eu* value of the Mahe coals is lower than that of the Late Permian coals from eastern Yunnan, where the detrital particles were mainly derived from the basalt. This paper estimates lake level variations over two small and adjacent lakes in the Tibetan plateau (TP), namely Gemang Co and Zhangnai Co, as well as the inland Dianchi Lake in China using CryoSat-2 SARIn-mode and LRM 20-Hz waveforms over the period of 2011–2018. Different retrackers and a dedicated data editing procedure have been used to process CryoSat-2 data for determining the lake level time series. The lake level estimations are indirectly validated against those from Jason-2 in TP and from in situ data in Dianchi Lake, both showing good agreement with strong correlation coefficients >0.74. The results of this paper suggest that the official ICE retracker for LRM data and APD-PPT retracker for SARIn-mode waveforms are the most appropriate retrackers over Dianchi Lake and TP lakes, respectively. The trend estimates of the time series derived by both retrackers are 61.0 ± 10.8 mm/yr for Gemang Co and Zhangnai Co in TP, and 30.9 ± 64.9 mm/yr for Dianchi Lake, indicating that the lake levels over three lakes were continuously rising over the study period. The results of this study show that CryoSat-2 SARIn-mode data can be used for monitoring many small lakes that have not been measured by other altimetry missions in TP. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To address the task, the stochastic model predictive control (MPC), based on probabilistic forecasting and rolling stochastic optimization, is designed and implemented for the long-term operations of the RESSs in Yunnan province, China. The paper tests out the system efficiencies for different penetration levels of wind and solar power, and finds out that (1) the Long Short-Term Memory performs best among candidate point prediction algorithms; (2) the stochastic MPC considering the correlations among renewable resources helps the RESS operate with a higher efficiency; (3) the large-scale hydropower plant has great potential to offset the effects of seasonal uncertainties and demand-generation mismatch, but cannot completely avoid the electricity shortage enabled by unexpected scenarios of renewable resources. Emissions trading system (ETS) is a cost-effective way towards achieving the carbon neutrality goal. Based on the gaps in the research on carbon allowance allocation vis-à-vis the carbon neutrality target, this study examines how to allocate carbon allowances equitably and effectively among Chinese provinces. Different from the previous research that mainly considers responsibility, ability, and potential of equity dimensions, this paper proposes a composite indicator allocation approach based on the equity of history, demand, contribution, and guarantee, and it also employs the entropy method and expert survey method to obtain the indicator weight values in different scenarios. Results show that the carbon allowances of some provinces, such as the forest-rich province of Yunnan, vary significantly in five scenarios, but little differences are observed for some provinces, such as the high historical emissions province of Shanxi. More provinces achieve data envelopment analysis efficiency in the preferred scenario. Compared with the objective scenario, the required emission reduction in the preferred gross domestic product (GDP) scenario is 231 million tonnes less, and the emission reduction cost is 190 billion yuan less. Abstract: A type of clayey diatomaceous earth of Pliocene Mangbang Formation (N2 m) was encountered in highway projects in the Tengchong region of Yunnan Province, Southwest China. The Tengchong clayey diatomaceous earth is characterized using multiple test methods, such as granulometric analysis, chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis, shrinkage and swelling tests, unconfined or uniaxial compression test, triaxial test and direct shear tests. The chemical and mineralogical compositions, physical and hydraulic properties and engineering properties of the clayey diatomaceous earth are presented in this paper. It is revealed that the Tengchong clayey diatomaceous earth is an unusual soil or rock which has characteristics of both typical diatomaceous earth and swelling clayey soil or soft clay rock. The diatoms in the earth enhance the connection between micro-structures, and improve the mechanical properties of diatomaceous earth. However, due to the existence of a significant amount of swelling clay minerals, the Tengchong clayey diatomaceous earth becomes swelling soft rock, and is prone to engineering problems or geohazards. Based on the test results, a number of issues regarding classification, discrimination and geohazard control related with the clayey diatomaceous earth are discussed to provide both some basic understanding and new insight into the characteristics of the clayey diatomaceous earth deposits. This paper presents a study of the willingness-to-pay (WTP) for surface water quality improvement in China. In the Huaping County of Yunnan Province, we found that people are willing to pay 74 Yuan (or US$12.33 in 2012 prices) per household per month (or 5% of household income) continuously for five years to achieve an improvement of water quality in the two major local rivers from the current Grade IV to Grade III, which denotes a level suitable for swimming and fishing and matches the water quality level from 10 years ago. This WTP study is based on an actual investment project that was under serious consideration by the government and is based on the multiple-bounded discrete choice (MBDC) approach, which explicitly recognizes the potential uncertainties involved in the study. The potential ordering effects associated with the MBDC approach are empirically tested, and the results indicate that although the presentation order of the polychotomous likelihood choices may not have a significant impact on the WTP estimation, the presentation order of bid levels may have a significant impact. Even though surface water has been polluted almost everywhere in China, few economic valuation studies have been conducted to value water quality changes. This paper reports an economic valuation study conducted in Yunnan, China, which estimates the total value of a real investment project to improve the water quality of Lake Puzhehei by one grade level. Located in Qiubei County far from big cities, the lake has been experiencing rapid water quality deterioration in past several years. Based on the multiple bounded discrete choice approach, an average household in Qiubei County is estimated to be willing to pay 30 yuan per month continuously for 5 years for the water quality improvement by one grade level, roughly equivalent to 3% of the average household income. The elasticity of willingness-to-pay with respect to income is estimated to be 0.21. The economic rate of return of the proposed project is estimated to be 18%, indicating an economically favorable investment in water quality improvement. This study also demonstrates that the previous knowledge about the water quality changes and about the project can have significant positive impacts on people's willingness to pay, whereas the interviewer effect on valuation can be negative. Understanding the spatial distribution regularity of coseismic landslides is important for mitigation in future earthquakes. Unveiling the controlling factors of the distribution of coseismic landslides is a long-standing unsolved problem. On 3 August 2014, a Mw 6.1 earthquake occurred in Ludian County, Yunnan Province, China, and resulted in a great number of landslides and substantial losses. The coseismic landslide distribution in this earthquake, which was triggered by an unmapped fault, shows a different pattern. This paper conducted a spatial analysis to reveal the controlling factors in the Ludian earthquake. A spatial database of landslides has been built by interpreting the ZY-3 pre-earthquake, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), GeoEye-1 and GF-1 post-earthquake. A total of 1414 landslides were identified after a combination of image interpretation and field investigation in an area of 704.7 km2. The geological setting of the study area, including the tectonics and lithology, has been mapped in detail. The digital elevation model (DEM) of the study area with a resolution of 30 m × 30 m was presented to address the topographic characteristics. A geographic information system (GIS) was used to analyse the spatial characterization of the landslides. Correlations between the occurrences of landslides and factors, i.e., slope gradient, elevation, slope aspect, intensity, distance to coseismic fault, distance to the epicentre, lithology, distance to non-coseismic faults, distance to rivers and distance to road, were characterized with a spatial analysis in GIS. It can be concluded that the slope gradient and the distance to the coseismic fault are the two most important factors for determining the spatial distribution of coseismic disasters. Some other factors play a role by influencing the slope gradient to a certain extent, and the movement of the coseismic fault is the prone direction of coseismic landslides. Slope cutting fractures the rock mass, increases the slope gradient, and significantly increases the occurrence of coseismic landslides. A statistics analysis indicates that the landslide concentration (LC) generally has an obvious exponential decrease with an increasing distance to the coseismic fault, while it has a good Weibull cumulative distribution with the slope gradient. • A complete coseismic landslide inventory were documented in 2004 Mw 6.1 Ludian struck area of 704.7 km2. • Correlations between landslide occurrences and nine factors including geographical and geological setting were investigated. • The relationships among factors influencing the spatial distribution of coseismic landslides are disclosed. • Slope gradient and the distance to the coseismic fault or epicentre are the two determinants for LC of coseismic landslides. Simple Summary: Gamasid mites are a large group of arthropods and some of them are ectoparasites on the body surface of rodents and some other small mammals. Some species of ectoparasitic gamasid mites are associated with the transmission of some zoonotic diseases such as rickettsialpox and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS). Based on a 12-month consecutive investigation at Jingha village in southern Yunnan of China from April 2016 to March 2017, the present paper studied the infestation and seasonal fluctuation of gamasid mites on the Indochinese forest rat, Rattus andamanensis, the most dominant species of rodent at the investigated site. The temperature and rainfall are two key factors that influence the seasonal fluctuation of the mites. A 12-month consecutive investigation was made at Jingha village in southern Yunnan of southwest China from April 2016 to March 2017. A total of 2053 Indochinese forest rats (Rattus andamanensis Blyth, 1860) were captured and examined, which account for 84.69% (2053/2424) of all the animal hosts (rodents and other small mammals) at the investigation site. And 39.82% (13,531/33,980) of gamasid mites were identified from the body surface of R. andamanensis and they belong to 41 species, 10 genera, 3 subfamilies and 2 families. Of the 41 species of gamasid mites identified from R. andamanensis, Laelaps nuttalli Hirst, 1915 and Laelaps echidninus Berlese, 1887 were the most dominant with 70.63% and 20.67% of constituent ratios respectively. In monthly fluctuations of all the gamasid mites on R. andamanensis, the constituent ratio (Cr) and overall infestation mean abundance (MA) of the mites in 12 months showed two obvious peaks in January (winter season) and June (summer season). However, the two dominant mite species, L. nuttalli and L. echidninus, showed different patterns of seasonal fluctuations. Laelaps nuttalli occurred throughout the year, and its Cr and MA showed two prominent peaks in winter season (December and January) and summer season (June), which belongs to the summer-winter type of seasonal fluctuation. Laelaps echidninus also occurred on R. andamanensis throughout the year, but its Cr and MA showed only one peak in winter season (December and January), which belongs to the winter type of seasonal fluctuation. A negative correlation existed between two climatic factors (temperature and rainfall) and the infestations (Cr, prevalence PM and MA) of two dominant mite species (L. nuttalli and L. echidninus) on R. andamanensis (p < 0.05). Abstract: This paper presents an epidemic model aiming at the prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Yunnan, China. The total population in the model is restricted within high risk population. By the epidemic characteristics of HIV/AIDS in Yunnan province, the population is divided into two groups: injecting drug users (IDUs) and people engaged in commercial sex (PECS) which includes female sex workers (FSWs), and clients of female sex workers (C). For a better understanding of HIV/AIDS transmission dynamics, we do some necessary mathematical analysis. The conditions and thresholds for the existence of four equilibria are established. We compute the reproduction number for each group independently, and show that when both the reproduction numbers are less than unity, the disease-free equilibrium is globally stable. The local stabilities for other equilibria including two boundary equilibria and one positive equilibrium are figured out. When we omit the infectivity of AIDS patients, global stability of these equilibria are obtained. For the simulation, parameters are chosen to fit as much as possible prevalence data publicly available for Yunnan. Increasing strength of the control measure on high risk population is necessary to reduce the HIV/AIDS in Yunnan. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

This paper discusses how a social system based on bilateral and non-hierarchical kinship is able to establish and maintain systems of authority. The Muga Lahu in Yunnan practise a bilateral and non-lineal kinship system based on the gender equality principle, and communal life is also based on equal couples' kinship networking, bound to non-lineal ties through marriage. The Lahu here never practise matrilineal, patrilineal or cognatic kinship and descent in daily life, but an individual couple is bound to immediate ancestors through the redistribution of cropland property. In communal life, family separation and farmland reorganization are carried out dynamically through the marriages of the younger generation. The flexible kinship group establishes labour-sharing, ritual-participating and intermarriage groups in everyday life. Therefore, the kinship system is closely bound to farmland redistribution and the continuation of families. This bilateral, non-lineal kinship system constitutes a dynamic social institution, but all couples are equal to each other. Due to the lack of authority over the equality of social units such as equal couples, the Lahu communal authority historically comes from superior external powers, such as the religious power linked with religious movements involved in the Yunnan-Burma frontier formation since the 1720s. The established Lahu political system was destroyed by the coming of the Qing and the Republic states, because of its anti-Han or anti-state stance in frontier history. It is clear that the superior religious power over the kinship network worked as a means of social mobilization through religious movements, and became the authority source for social cohesion in history, but it has been replaced by state-appointed cadres in current communal life in China. The Lahu case shows that more attention should be paid to the relationships between frontier history, dynamic kinship and social organization among ethnic minorities in Chinese and South East Asian frontier societies. This paper presents an analysis of the deformation mechanism and stability assessment of a slope in Yunnan Province, China. Field investigations indicated that the deformation of the slope was caused by the combined effects of the unfavorable topographical, geological and hydrogeological conditions and the placement of man-made fill. The stability of the slope was assessed by 3D numerical modeling which showed that the factor of safety of the slope was 1.1 in the natural state but reduced to 1.03 after fill was placed. The frequency, spacing and trace length of rock mass discontinuities appear to follow a negative exponential distribution. However, in some cases this distribution has limitations. To overcome this, it is necessary to choose a target distribution which is flexible enough to simulate the spacing and trace length of the discontinuities. The paper shows how the two parameter negative exponential (TPNE) distributions can meet the requirements. An improved constitutive equation of rock mass based on this new distribution has been determined from which a new method to calculate rock mass elastic modulus (Em) is proposed, taking into account the rock mass anisotropy. It was found that the geo-stresses influence Em in two ways: it varies with changes in the orientation of the geo-stress and with the size of geo-stress. The work is illustrated by a case study on the abutment slope of the 295 m high arched dam of the Xiao wan hydroelectric power station in Yunnan province, Southwest of China. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since Hardin's (1968) paper on the "Tragedy of the Commons," property rights of commonpool resources have been a central concern for natural resource management scholars. Matsutake, a common-pool resource, is an economically important mushroom in several locations around the world. Driven by growing international demand over the last few decades, matsutake management is a relatively new practice both for local communities and government agencies. In Northwest Yunnan, China, one of the most productive areas for matsutake globally, numerous local practices and systems have emerged in the last two to three decades. In this study, we investigate the differences between management systems in eight communities and the factors associated with them. The methods used for field research included key-informant interviews, household surveys, and questionnaires. Three main management patterns were identified through use of statistical clustering based on indicators such as physical environment, resource characteristics, tenure arrangements, regulations and implementation, harvesting behavior, income, and market regulation. It was found that private access-the principal characteristic of which is the exclusive use of resources-results in more income at lower labor cost per household than either of the other openaccess management patterns. Even though under the context of ongoing Second Forest Tenure Reform in China-in which collective forest privatization is the key task-application of private-access regimes is limited because of site conditions including physical, institutional, and market environments. Common access management systems have advantages in terms of managing conflict and balancing equity needs. No matter the type of access right, the key issue for wise matsutake management is institutional. As a result, the demand for flexibility in China's power system has never been so urgent. Because China has the greatest installed hydropower capacity in the world, sharing hydropower flexibility in its interconnected power systems is of great practical significance to China. This paper reports the necessity and feasibility of sharing the hydropower flexibility of Yunnan's large hydropower bases in the China Southern Power Grid (CSG) through direct-current (DC) tie-lines. In addition, an effective solution to this problem is presented. First, several quantitative methods of flexibility are proposed. Second, a decentralized and coordinated scheduling model that taps and shares the power flexibility of large hydropower bases in interconnected power systems is constructed. The model considers the complex nonlinear constraints of hydropower and DC tie-lines. Third, new linearization modeling methods are proposed to transform the model to a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model, reducing the computational complexity. The MILP model is applied to the CSG to determine the hourly generation schedules for power plants in Yunnan's large hydropower bases and the power transmission plans for DC tie-lines. The cases studies demonstrate that the proposed model can fully tap hydropower flexibility and ensure that large hydropower bases simultaneously respond to the flexibility demands of sending-end and receiving-end power grids. Multi-phase tectonic movements and complex geological structures limit the exploration and hotspot prediction of coalbed methane (CBM) in structurally complex areas. This scientific problem is still not fully understood, particularly in the Bumu region, Southwest China. The present paper analyses the occurrence characteristics and distribution of CBM based on the comprehensive analysis of CBM data. In combination with the analysis of the regional tectonics setting, geological structure features and tectonic evolution. The control action of multi-phase tectonic movements on CBM occurrence are further discussed. Results show that the Indosinian local deformation, Yanshanian intense deformation, and Himalayan secondary derived deformation formed the current tectonic framework of Enhong synclinorium. The intense tectonic compression and dextral shear action in the Yanshanian and Himalayan movements caused the complex geological structures in Bumu region, composed of the Enhong syncline, associated reverse faults and late derived normal fault. The CBM distribution is complex, which has the central and western NNE-trending high gas content zones along the syncline hinge zone and the reverse faults. The geological structure controls on CBM enrichment are definite and important. Based on geological structure features and responses of gas content, methane concentration, and gas content gradient, the gas controlling patterns of geological structure are determined and can be classified into five types: the reverse fault sealing, syncline sealing, monoclinal enrichment, normal fault dispersion, and buried floor fault dispersion types. The structural compression above the neutral surface plays an important role in the syncline sealing process, which is indicated by an increase in gas content gradient. The EW-trending tectonic intense compression and dextral shear action in the Himalayan movement avoided the negative inversion of NNE-trending Yanshanian compressive structure and its destruction of CBM reservoir.
