Channel modeling is a first step towards the successful projecting of any wireless communication system. Hence, in this paper, we analyze the performance at the output of a multi-branch selection combining (SC) diversity receiver in a wireless environment that has been distracted by fading and co-channel interference (CCI), whereby the fading is modelled by newer Beaulieu-Xie (BX) distribution, and the CCI is modelled by the κ-µ distribution. The BX distribution provides the ability to include in consideration any number of line-of-sight (LOS) useful signal components and non-LOS (NLOS) useful signal components. This distribution contains characteristics of some other fading models thanks to its flexible fading parameters, which also applies to the κ-µ distribution. We derived here the expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) for the output signal-to-co-channel interference ratio (SIR). After that, other performances are obtained, namely: outage probability (Pout), channel capacity (CC), moment-generating function (MGF), average bit error probability (ABEP), level crossing rate (LCR), and average fade duration (AFD). Numerical results are presented in several graphs versus the SIR for different values of fading and CCI parameters, as well as the number of input branches in the SC receiver. Then, the impact of parameters on all performance is checked. From our numerical results, it is possible to directly obtain the performance for all derived and displayed quantities for cases of previously known distributions of fading and CCI by inserting the appropriate parameter values. In the second part of the paper, a workflow for automated network experimentation relying on the synergy of Large Language Models (LLMs) and model-driven engineering (MDE) is presented, while the previously derived expressions are used for evaluation. Due to the aforementioned, the biggest value of the obtained results is the applicability to the cases of a large number of other distributions for fading and CCI by replacing the corresponding parameters in the formulas for the respective performances. A nonlinear system, exhibiting a unique asymptotic behaviour, while being continuously subject to a stimulus from a certain class, is said to suffer from fading memory. This interesting phenomenon was first uncovered in a non-volatile tantalum oxide-based memristor from Hewlett Packard Labs back in 2016 out of a deep numerical investigation of a predictive mathematical description, known as the Strachan model, later corroborated by experimental validation. It was then found out that fading memory is ubiquitous in non-volatile resistance switching memories. A nonlinear system may however also exhibit a local form of fading memory, in case, under an excitation from a given family, it may approach one of a number of distinct attractors, depending upon the initial condition. A recent bifurcation study of the Strachan model revealed how, under specific train stimuli, composed of two square pulses of opposite polarity per cycle, the simplest form of local fading memory affects the transient dynamics of the aforementioned Resistive Random Access Memory cell, which, would asymptotically act as a bistable oscillator. In this manuscript we propose an analytical methodology, based on the application of analysis tools from Nonlinear System Theory to the Strachan model, to craft the properties of a generalised pulse train stimulus in such a way to induce the emergence of complex local fading memory effects in the nano-device, which would consequently display an interesting tuneable multistable oscillatory response, around desired resistance states. The last part of the manuscript discusses a case study, shedding light on a potential application of the local history erase effects, induced in the device via pulse train stimulation, for compensating the unwanted yet unavoidable drifts in its resistance state under power off conditions. Predicting the remaining useful life (RUL) of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries is crucial to preventing system failures and enhancing operational performance. Knowing the RUL of a battery enables one to perform preventative maintenance or replace the battery before its useful life expires, which is vital in safety-critical applications. The prediction of the RUL of Li-ion batteries plays a critical role in their optimal utilization throughout their lifetime and supporting sustainable practices. This paper conducts a comparative analysis to assess the effectiveness of multiple machine learning (ML) models in predicting the capacity fade and RUL of Li-ion batteries. Three case studies are analyzed to assess the performances of the state-of-the-art ML models, considering two distinct datasets. These case studies are conducted under various operating conditions such as temperature, C-rate, state of charge (SOC), and depth of discharge (DOD) of the batteries in Cases 1 and 2, and a different set of features and charging policies for the second dataset in Case 3. Meanwhile, diverse extracted features from the initial cycles of the second dataset are considered in Case 3 to predict the RUL of Li-ion batteries in all cycles. In addition, a multi-feature multi-target (MFMT) feature mapping is introduced to investigate the performance of the developed ML models in predicting the battery capacity fade and RUL in the entire life cycle. Multiple ML models that are developed for the comparison analysis in the proposed methodology include Random Forest (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), light gradient-boosting machine (LightGBM), multi-layer perceptron (MLP), long short-term memory (LSTM), and attention-LSTM. Furthermore, hyperparameter tuning is applied to improve the performance of the XGBoost and LightGBM models. The results demonstrate that the extreme gradient boosting with hyperparameter tuning (XGBoost-HT) model outperforms the other ML models in terms of the root-mean-squared error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of the battery capacity fade and RUL for all cycles. The obtained RMSE and MAPE values for XGBoost-HT in terms of cycle life are 69 cycles and 6.5%, respectively, for the third case. In addition, the XGBoost-HT model handles the MFMT feature mapping within an acceptable range of RMSE and MAPE, compared to the rest of the developed ML models and similar benchmarks. In this paper, we study an uplink power-domain non-orthogonal multiple access (PD-NOMA) system, in which 2K+1 users are served. The user clustering process based on High-High/High-Low algorithm precedes the utilization of the data-rate based power allocation algorithm. Channels are characterized by Fisher-Snedecor composite fading model interpreted as model with a high level of generality. The influence of different fading/shadowing channel conditions, number of users and their positions is portrayed through the numerical results of data sum rate of the studied PD-NOMA system. The capture effect is a frequently observed phenomenon in vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) communication. When conflicts arise during time slot access, failure to access does not necessarily occur; instead, successful access may still be achieved. The capture effect can enhance the likelihood of multiple access and improve communication efficiency. The security of VANETs communication is undoubtedly the primary concern. One crucial approach to enhance security involves the design of an efficient and reliable medium access control (MAC) protocol. Taking into account both aspects, we propose a novel framed slotted Aloha (FSA) MAC protocol model. Firstly, we derive the closed-form expression for the capture probability in the Rician fading channel in this paper. Subsequently, we analyze how the number of vehicles and time slots influence the success probability of vehicle access channels as well as examine the impact of the capture effect on this success probability. Then, under constraints regarding vehicle access channel success probability, we derive optimal values for slot numbers, access times, and transmission power while proposing a comprehensive implementation method to ensure high access channel success probabilities. In this paper, a novel downlink cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access scheme (C-NOMA) is proposed with various receiver diversity combiner techniques, such as maximal-ratio-combiner, equal gain combiner and selection combiner technique over η - μ fading channel. In addition, a user pairing is deployed for the proposed system model to reduce system complexity. To be more specific, to serve NOMA scheme, two users are selected out of multiple users in the proposed system model. The mathematical expressions of outage probability (OP) for the selected users are derived with M branch diversity combiner over η - μ fading channel, thereby the outage of the user pairing is obtained and analysed. Furthermore, the impact of various parameters such as number of receiver antennas M , user pairing, imperfect successive interference cancellation and target rate of users γ th , on OP are examined. In this paper, we propose a novel method for a tighter approximation of the Q -function using the two-point Gauss quadrature rule. In the proposed method, the integral used for approximation can be divided into any number of sub-intervals and result in an approximated expression, which is a simple summation of exponentials. The proposed approximation provides lesser relative error not only at smaller but also at larger arguments of Q -function. As an application, the proposed approximation of the Q -function can be efficiently used to evaluate the closed-form expressions of symbol error probability (SEP) for various modulation techniques over generalized fading channels. In order to show the applicability and tightness of the proposed approximation, we have derived more accurate approximated expressions for binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and triangular quadrature amplitude modulation (TQAM) schemes over α–κ–μ fading channel. The results indicate a comparison between the proposed approximation and existing approximations while demonstrating improved accuracy in terms of the relative error and hence achieve a tighter bound while calculating the error performance of the digital modulation schemes at both lower and higher values of SNRs. This paper investigates the power allocation in a massive multiple‐input multiple‐output (MIMO) downlink system, where the base station (BS) simultaneously transmits information and energy to information terminals and energy terminals without resorting to any wireless energy harvesting (EH) protocol, respectively. First, with respect to this system, the closed‐form expressions of achievable rate and harvested energy are, respectively, derived for Rayleigh fading channels. Then, from these expressions, three optimization problems are formulated based on quality‐of‐service (QoS) requirements, with the purposes of maximizing achievable sum rate, harvested sum energy and joint QoS requirements, respectively. The optimization problem of maximizing achievable sum rate is transformed into a sequence of geometric programmings (GPs), which can be solved efficiently with standard convex optimization tools. The optimization problem of maximizing harvested sum energy is proved to be solvable as a linear program. The optimization problem of maximizing joint QoS requirements is shown to be a multi‐objective optimization problem (MOOP) and solved by a one‐dimensional search based on GP. Finally, numerical results manifest that the proposed power allocation algorithms can provide good system performances of achievable sum rate and harvested sum energy, and jointly guarantee QoS fairness in terms of achievable rate and harvested energy. With the progress of communication technology, the increasing wireless devices are hooked up the networks, and the consequent security problems cannot be ignored. At present, the solutions mainly include secret key system and physical layer security (PLS). However, secret key system that relies on highly complex algorithms for encryption and decryption still has the risk of being cracked by powerful computers. In this paper, the PLS of Beaulieu‐Xie fading channels is studied. To improve the transmission quality and support higher speed data transmission, the single‐input multiple‐out (SIMO) system considered is the Wyner eavesdropper model with decoding and forwarding (DF) relay over Beaulieu‐Xie fading. The closed‐form theoretical formulas for secure outage probability (SOP) and strictly positive secrecy capacity (SPSC) are obtained by complex unified functional representation, which includes two cases: LRD≤LRE${L_{RD}} \le {L_{RE}}$ and LRD>LRE${L_{RD}} > {L_{RE}}$. Moreover, the theoretical formulas are verified by Monte Carlo results. By comparing the simulation results with the theoretical analysis, the authors discussed the factors to improve the secure performance. Experiments show that the larger ratio of (λRD,λRE)$({{\lambda _{RD}},{\lambda _{RE}}})$, the smaller ratio of (mRD,mRE)$({{m_{RD}},{m_{RE}}})$, smaller signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) of eavesdropping channels, smaller threshold Cth${C_{th}}$ and more legitimate antennas LRD${L_{RD}}$ are beneficial to the improvement of anti‐interference capability for the relay networks with Beaulieu‐Xie distributions when the legal channel link R→D is in a state of high SNR. This paper investigates intelligent reconfigurable surface‐assisted non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks for short packet communications where the source with multiple antennas utilizes beamforming technology to serve two end users including a near user and a far user. The analysis system, closed‐form expressions of the average block error rates (BLERs), latency and reliability at all users are derived under assuming perfect channel state information over quasi‐static Rayleigh fading channels. For evaluating the improvement of the network system, a deep neural network (DNN) framework is designed to predict the performance parameters in two cases: (i) BLERs prediction of the users, (ii) transmit power allocation under the constraints of BLERs at each user which satisfy the extremely high reliability requirements of uRLLCs. The extensive results demonstrate that first, the DNN‐based estimation results are more accurate than Monte‐Carlo simulation results with low execution time. Second, the allocated power for each user can be accurately predicted at the high layers. Finally, two methods of evaluating the effectiveness of the DNN model, i.e. root mean square error and mean absolute percentage error, reach low error which verify the power of the designed DNN model for future analysis. Over the past two decades, numerous research projects have concentrated on cognitive radio wireless sensor networks (CR-WSNs) and their benefits. To tackle the problem of energy and spectrum shortfall in CR-WSNs, this research proposes an underpinning decode-&-forward (DF) relaying technique. Using the suggested time-slot architecture (TSA), this technique harvests energy from a multi-antenna power beam (PB) and delivers source information to the target utilizing energy-constrained secondary source and relay nodes. The study considers three proposed relay selection schemes: enhanced hybrid partial relay selection (E-HPRS), conventional opportunistic relay selection (C-ORS), and leading opportunistic relay selection (L-ORS). We present evidence for the sustainability of the suggested methods by examining the outage probability (OP) and throughput (TPT) under multiple primary users (PUs). These systems leverage time switching (TS) receiver design to increase end-to-end performance while taking into account the maximum interference constraint and transceiver hardware inadequacies. In order to assess the efficacy of the proposed methods, we derive the exact and asymptotic closed-form equations for OP and TPT & develop an understanding to learn how they affect the overall performance all across the Rayleigh fading channel. The results show that OP of the L-ORS protocol is 16% better than C-ORS and 75% better than E-HPRS in terms of transmitting SNR. The OP of L-ORS is 30% better than C-ORS and 55% better than E-HPRS in terms of hardware inadequacies at the destination. In this work, we study the possibility of using a new non-homogeneous stochastic diffusion process based on the Rayleigh density function to model the evolution of the active cases of COVID-19 in Morocco. First, the main probabilistic characteristics and analytic expression of the proposed process are obtained. Next, the parameters of the model are estimated by the maximum likelihood methodology. This estimation and the subsequent statistical inference are based on the discrete observation of the variable x (t) "number of active cases of COVID-19 in Morocco" by using the data for the period of 28 January to 4 March 2022. Then, we analyze the mean functions by using simulated data for fit and forecast purposes. User location is becoming an increasingly common and important feature for a wide range of services. Smartphone owners increasingly use location-based services, as service providers add context-enhanced functionality such as car-driving routes, COVID-19 tracking, crowdedness indicators, and suggestions for nearby points of interest. However, positioning a user indoors is still problematic due to the fading of the radio signal caused by multipath and shadowing, where both have complex dependencies on the indoor environment. Location fingerprinting is a common positioning method where Radio Signal Strength (RSS) measurements are compared to a reference database of previously stored RSS values. Due to the size of the reference databases, these are often stored in the cloud. However, server-side positioning computations make preserving the user's privacy problematic. Given the assumption that a user does not want to communicate his/her location, we pose the question of whether a passive system with client-side computations can substitute fingerprinting-based systems, which commonly use active communication with a server. We compared two passive indoor location systems based on multilateration and sensor fusion using an Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) with fingerprinting and show how these may provide accurate indoor positioning without compromising the user's privacy in a busy office environment. Internet of Things (IoT) systems cooperative with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been put into use for more than ten years, from transportation to military surveillance, and they have been shown to be worthy of inclusion in the next wireless protocols. Therefore, this paper studies user clustering and the fixed power allocation approach by placing multi-antenna UAV-mounted relays for extended coverage areas and achieving improved performance for IoT devices. In particular, the system enables UAV-mounted relays with multiple antennas together with non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to provide a potential way to enhance transmission reliability. We presented two cases of multi-antenna UAVs such as maximum ratio transmission and the best selection to highlight the benefits of the antenna-selections approach with low-cost design. In addition, the base station managed its IoT devices in practical scenarios with and without direct links. For two cases, we derive closed-form expressions of outage probability (OP) and closed-form approximation ergodic capacity (EC) generated for both devices in the main scenario. The outage and ergodic capacity performances in some scenarios are compared to confirm the benefits of the considered system. The number of antennas was found to have a crucial impact on the performances. The simulation results show that the OP for both users strongly decreases when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), number of antennas, and fading severity factor of Nakagami-m fading increase. The proposed scheme outperforms the orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme in outage performance for two users. Generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) system with maximal ratio transmission (MRT) scheme is considered to analyse the symbol error rate (SER) performance over α - μ fading channel. In present days, low latency and low consumption of energy devices are used and these can be achieved using multicarrier techniques. The GFDM is one such multicarrier technique which has a capable to provide these requirements. Low out-of-band (OOB) radiation is one of the GFDM technique's main benefits. Initially, in this study, GFDM-MRT system is used to investigate the SER expression analysis in α - μ fading. Initially, we have addressed the closed form of novel mathematical analysis of SER expression under α - μ fading channel. The Rayleigh, Nakagami-m, and Nakagami-q fading channels are all special instances in the suggested derivation. Later, a Monte-Carlo simulation-based test-bed is developed in MATLAB software and simulations are evaluated for various values of fading parameters, different roll-off factors, and the number of transmitting antennas Nt. The GFDM-MRT technology provides lower SER values and it is more dependable for highspeed communications, it can be inferred. Terahertz (THz) band offers a vast amount of bandwidth and is envisioned to become a key enabler for a number of next generation wireless applications. In this direction, appropriate channel models, encapsulating the large and small-scale fading phenomena, need to be developed for both indoor and outdoor communications environments. The THz large-scale fading characteristics have been extensively investigated for both indoor and outdoor scenarios. The study of indoor THz small-scale fading has recently gained the momentum, while the small-scale fading of outdoor THz wireless channels has not yet been investigated. Motivated by this, this contribution introduces Gaussian mixture (GM) distribution as a suitable small-scale fading model for outdoor THz wireless links. In more detail, multiple outdoor THz wireless measurements recorded at different transceiver separation distance are fed to an expectation-maximization fitting algorithm, which returns the parameters of the GM probability density function. The fitting accuracy of the analytical GMs is evaluated in terms of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Kullback-Leibler (KL) and root-mean-square-error (RMSE) tests. The results reveal that as the number of mixtures increases the resulting analytical GMs perform a better fit to the empirical distributions. In addition, the KL and RMSE metrics indicate that the increase of mixtures beyond a particular number result to no significant improvement of the fitting accuracy. Finally, following the same approach as in the case of GM, we examine the suitability of mixture Gamma to capture the small-scale fading characteristics of the outdoor THz channels. Joint communications and sensing functionalities integrated into the same communication network have become increasingly relevant due to the large bandwidth requirements of next-generation wireless communication systems and the impending spectral shortage. While there exist system-level guidelines and waveform design specifications for such systems, an information-theoretic analysis of the absolute performance capabilities of joint sensing and communication systems that take into account practical limitations such as fading has not been addressed in the literature. Motivated by this, we undertake a network information-theoretic analysis of a typical joint communications and sensing system in this paper. Towards this end, we consider a state-dependent fading Gaussian multiple access channel (GMAC) setup with an additive state. The state process is assumed to be independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Gaussian, and non-causally available to all the transmitting nodes. The fading gains on the respective links are assumed to be stationary and ergodic and available only at the receiver. In this setting, with no knowledge of fading gains at the transmitters, we are interested in joint message communication and estimation of the state at the receiver to meet a target distortion in the mean-squared error sense. Our main contribution here is a complete characterization of the distortion-rate trade-off region between the communication rates and the state estimation distortion for a two-sender GMAC. Our results show that the optimal strategy is based on static power allocation and involves uncoded transmissions to amplify the state, along with the superposition of the digital message streams using appropriate Gaussian codebooks and dirty paper coding (DPC). This acts as a design directive for realistic systems using joint sensing and transmission in next-generation wireless standards and points to the relative benefits of uncoded communications and joint source-channel coding in such systems. Power control in an RS-coded orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) system with error-and-erasure correction decoding in Rayleigh fading channels was investigated. The power of each symbol within a codeword was controlled to reduce the codeword error rate (WER). Several RS-coded OFDM systems with power control are proposed. The WERs of the proposed systems as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio per bit were derived. We found that channel inversion at the transmitter in combination with the erasure generation by ordering fading amplitudes at the receiver provided the lowest WER among the considered systems. Furthermore, the erasure generation by ordering fading amplitudes was found to be better than the erasure generation by comparing fading amplitudes with a threshold. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper improves energy efficiency and communications reliability for wireless transmission under κ - μ shadowed fading (i.e., integrating all channel impairments including path loss, shadowing, fading) and hardware impairment by employing a nonlinear energy harvester and multi-antenna power transmitter. To this end, this paper provides explicit formulas for outage probability. Numerous results corroborate these formulas and expose that energy-harvesting nonlinearity, hardware impairment, and channel conditions drastically deteriorate system performance. Notwithstanding, energy-harvesting nonlinearity influences system performance more severely than hardware impairment. In addition, desired system performance is accomplished flexibly and possibly by choosing a cluster of specifications. This paper proposes a novel M -ary differential permutation index (DPI) differential chaos shift keying (DCSK) by using the Bahl–Cocke–Jeline–Raviv (BCJR) decoding (DPI-DCSK-BCJR) for chaos-based communications. By exploiting the characteristics of differential modulation and quasi-orthogonality of chaotic signals, the proposed DPI-DCSK-BCJR can provide two more calculated energies to decide the transmitted bits. Theoretical analysis of bit-error-rate (BER) is carried out over multipath Rayleigh fading channel and then validated via simulations. The proposed scheme is demonstrated to outperform the conventional DPI-DCSK by 2 dB for different M. This performance gain is especially increased over high-delay channels. Furthermore, the advantage of the proposed frequency-modulated DPI-DCSK-BCJR is verified over practical ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless channels. In addition, we investigate the proposed DPI-DCSK-BCJR for more generalized multiuser communications. The simulation result shows that DPI-DCSK-BCJR can achieve performance gains up to 5 dB as compared to the conventional PI-DCSK and DPI-DCSK for both two and three user systems. Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have recently drawn a large amount of attention because of their enormous potential in road safety improvement and traffic management as well as infotainment service support. As the standard of medium access control (MAC) and physical (PHY) layers for VANETs, IEEE 802.11p has been proposed for more than a decade. Though performance analyses of IEEE 802.11p MAC have been performed, the existing analytical methods still need to be improved. In this paper, to assess the saturated throughput and the average packet delay of IEEE 802.11p MAC in VANETs, a two-dimensional (2-D) Markov model is introduced by considering the capture effect under Nakagami-m fading channel. Moreover, the closed-form expressions of successful transmission, collided transmission, saturated throughput, and average packet delay are carefully derived. Finally, the simulation results are demonstrated to verify the accuracy of the proposed analytical model, which also proves that this analytical model is more precise than the existing ones in terms of saturated throughput and average packet delay. For a serial relaying underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) system with ON‐OFF keying modulation, we theoretically evaluate the optimal power allocation techniques in order to minimise the end‐to‐end bit error rate (BER), subject to transmission power constraints. At first, we evaluate the end‐to‐end BER with respect to all degrading effects of the UWOC channel, namely scattering, absorption, and turbulence‐induced fading and then develop a closed‐form BER expression as a function of transceiver parameters and water type. The optimal power allocation methods are obtained using the perfect channel state information available at the receiver (CSIR) and transmitter (CSIT) for both detect‐and‐forward (DF) and amplify‐and‐forward (AF) serial relaying systems. For each relaying method, we consider a dual‐hop UWOC system and determine optimal power allocation to minimise the BER. Afterwards, the optimal power allocation in a multi‐hop system is obtained to minimise the end‐to‐end BER. Compared to the equal power allocation, our results illustrate that UWOC relaying systems with optimal power allocation can significantly improve the end‐to‐end BER and expand the communication link. For instance, the proposed power allocation method for the DF and AF relay node in a 60 m single relay system improves the system performance at the BER of 10−5 by 2.5 and 1.8 dB compared to the equal power allocation, respectively. Highlights: The conjugated thioether (–S–) bonds as connected units not only improve the conductivity of compounds but also inhibit their dissolution by both extended π-conjugated plane and constructed flexible molecular skeleton. The Zn//4S6Q battery based on 3.5 M Zn(ClO4)2 electrolyte shows excellent rate capacity (208.6 mAh g−1 at 30 A g−1), superlong cycling life (> 20,000 cycles with no capacity fading), and impressive low-temperature performance (201.7 mAh g−1 at − 60 °C). The conjugated thioether (–S–) bonds as connected units not only improve the conductivity of compounds but also inhibit their dissolution by both extended π-conjugated plane and constructed flexible molecular skeleton. Hence, the Zn//4S6Q and Zn//4S4Q batteries exhibit satisfactory electrochemical performance based on 3.5 mol L−1 (M) Zn(ClO4)2 electrolyte. For instance, the Zn//4S6Q battery obtains 240 and 208.6 mAh g−1 of discharge capacity at 150 mA g−1 and 30 A g−1, respectively. The excellent rate capability is ascribed to the fast reaction kinetics. This system displays a superlong life of 20,000 cycles with no capacity fading at 3 A g−1. Additionally, the H+-storage mechanism of the 4S6Q compound is demonstrated by ex situ analyses and density functional theory calculations. Impressively, the battery can normally work at − 60 °C benefiting from the anti-freezing electrolyte and maintain a high discharge capacity of 201.7 mAh g−1, which is 86.2% of discharge capacity at 25 °C. The paper reports a machine learning approach for estimating the phase in a distributed acoustic sensor implemented using optical frequency domain reflectometry, with enhanced robustness at the fading points. A neural network configuration was trained using a simulated set of optical signals that were modeled after the Rayleigh scattering pattern of a perturbed fiber. Firstly, the performance of the network was verified using another set of numerically generated scattering profiles to compare the achieved accuracy levels with the standard homodyne detection method. In some satellite Internet of Things (IoT) devices with terrain shielding, the qualities of the direct source-destination (S-D) channel are poor, requiring cooperative communications with multi-relays to be employed. In order to solve error propagation of current decode-and-forward (DF) on such occasions, an efficient polar coded selective decode-and-forward (SDF) cooperation method is proposed with a new decision threshold derived from channel state information (CSI). First, the proposed threshold is derived from the CSI by exploiting the channel gain ratio of optimal relay-destination link (R-D) with source-relay (S-R) link. The above R-D link possesses good channel quality among all links in the system. Second, when the channel gain ratio of certain relay links is larger than the aforementioned decision threshold, the source and all these relays cooperatively send messages together to the destination to accomplish perfect SDF transmission. Otherwise, all relays are frozen and the messages are directly transmitted through the S-D link. If it fails anyway, a retransmission is subsequently tried in the next transmission cycle. In addition, a polar code for fading channels is designed and adaptively adjusted to a proper code rate according to channel quality to attain good bit error rate (BER) performance. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves about 0.9 and 0.5 dB gain at BER of 10 − 4 , respectively, in multi-relay cooperative communications with multi-path fading channels compared with those of non-cooperation and existing polar coded cooperation channels. Therefore, the proposed polar coded SDF (PCSDF) scheme can improve both the BER and the outage probability (OP) performance in multi-relay cooperative systems, making it quite suitable for heterogeneous network applications in cooperative satellite IoT systems involving sixth-generation (6G) communications. Weakly accreting black hole X-ray binaries launch compact radio jets that persist even in the quiescent spectral state, at X-ray luminosities ≲ 10−5 of the Eddington luminosity. However, radio continuum emission has been detected from only a few of these quiescent systems, and little is known about their radio variability. Jet variability can lead to misclassification of accreting compact objects in quiescence, and affects the detectability of black hole X-ray binaries in next-generation radio surveys. Here we present the results of a radio monitoring campaign of A0620 − 00, one of the best-studied and least-luminous known quiescent black hole X-ray binaries. We observed A0620 − 00 at 9.8 GHz using the Karl G Jansky Very Large Array on 31 epochs from 2017 to 2020, detecting the source |$\sim 75{{\ \rm per\, cent}}$| of the time. We see significant variability over all time-scales sampled, and the observed flux densities follow a lognormal distribution with μ = 12.5 μJy and σ = 0.22 dex. In no epoch was A0620 − 00 as bright as in 2005 (51 ± 7 μJy), implying either that this original detection was obtained during an unusually bright flare, or that the system is fading in the radio over time. We present tentative evidence that the quiescent radio emission from A0620 − 00 is less variable than that of V404 Cyg, the only other black hole binary with comparable data. Given that V404 Cyg has a jet radio luminosity ∼20 times higher than A0620 − 00, this comparison could suggest that less luminous jets are less variable in quiescence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We consider a cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with multi-antenna access points and user equipments (UEs) over Weichselberger Rician fading channels with random phase-shifts. More specifically, we investigate the uplink spectral efficiency (SE) for two pragmatic processing schemes: 1) the fully centralized processing scheme with global minimum mean square error (MMSE) or maximum ratio (MR) combining; 2) the large-scale fading decoding (LSFD) scheme with local MMSE or MR combining. To improve the system SE performance, we propose a practical uplink precoding scheme based on only the eigenbasis of the UE-side correlation matrices. Moreover, we derive novel closed-form SE expressions for characterizing the LSFD scheme with the MR combining. Numerical results validate the accuracy of our derived expressions and show that the proposed precoding scheme can significantly improve the SE performance compared with the scenario without any precoding scheme. The paper studies a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-assisted multi-user uplink massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with imperfect hardware. At the RIS, the paper considers phase noise, while at the base station, the paper takes into consideration the radio frequency impairments and low-resolution analog-to-digital converters. The paper derives approximate expressions for the ergodic achievable rate in closed forms under Rician fading channels. For the cases of infinite numbers of antennas and infinite numbers of reflecting elements, asymptotic data rates are derived to provide new design insights. The derived power scaling laws indicate that while guaranteeing a required system performance, the transmit power of the users can be scaled down at most by the factor $\frac{1}{M}$ when $M$ goes infinite, or by the factor $\frac{1}{MN}$ when $M$ and $N$ go infinite, where $M$ is the number of antennas and $N$ is the number of the reflecting units. Furthermore, an optimization algorithm is proposed based on the genetic algorithm to solve the phase shift optimization problem with the aim of maximizing the sum rate of the system. Cognitive Radio (CR) is a practical technique for overcoming spectrum inefficiencies by sensing and utilizing spectrum holes over a wide spectrum. In particular, cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) determines the state of primary users (PUs) by cooperating with multiple secondary users (SUs) distributed around a Cognitive Radio Network (CRN), further overcoming various noise and fading issues in the radio environment. But it's still challenging to balance energy efficiency and good sensing performances in the existing CSS system, especially when the CRN consists of battery-limited sensors. This article investigates the application of machine learning technologies for cooperative spectrum sensing, especially through solving a multi-dimensional optimization that cannot be readily addressed by traditional approaches. Specifically, we develop a neural network, which involves parameters that are integral to the CSS performance, including a device sleeping rate for each sensor and thresholds used in the energy detection method, and a customized loss function based on the energy consumption of the CSS system and multiple penalty terms reflecting the system requirements. Using this formulation, energy consumption is to be minimized with the guarantee of reaching a certain probability of false alarm and detection in the CSS system. With the proposed method, comparison studies under different hard fusion rules ('OR' and 'AND') demonstrate its effectiveness in improving the CSS system performances, as well as its robustness in the face of changing global requirements. The article presents an analysis of the physical layer security of a wireless communication system functioning in the presence of multipath fading and a wiretap. Under the assumption of the equal propagation conditions (both for the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper) described by the shadowed Beaulieu–Xie model, a closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability was derived. The correctness of the obtained expression was numerically verified via comparison with the direct numerical integration. The truncated version of the obtained expression was analyzed for various channel parameters to establish the requirements for numerically efficient implementation (in terms of the number of summands delivering the desired precision). An in-depth study of the secrecy outage probability dependence from all the possible channel parameters for different fading scenarios was performed, including heavy fading and light fading, with and without strong dominant and multipath components. The performed research demonstrated the existence of the secrecy outage probability non-uniqueness with the respect to the average signal-to-noise ratio in the main channel and the relative distance between the legitimate and wiretap receivers. The Gaussian Q-function has considerable applications in numerous areas of science and engineering. However, the fact that a closed-form expression for this function does not exist encourages finding approximations or bounds of the Q-function. In this paper, we determine analytically two novel interval upper bound Q-function approximations and show that they could be used efficiently not only for the symbol error probability (SEP) estimation of transmission over Nakagami-m fading channels, but also for the average symbol error probability (ASEP) evaluation for two modulation formats. Specifically, we determine analytically the composition of the upper bound Q-function approximations specified at disjoint intervals of the input argument values so as to provide the highest accuracy within the intervals, by utilizing the selected one of two upper bound Q-function approximations. We show that a further increase of the accuracy, achieved in the case with two upper-bound approximations composing the interval approximation, can be obtained by forming a composite interval approximation of the Q-function that assumes another extra interval and by specifying the third form for the upper-bound Q-function approximation. The proposed analytical approach can be considered universal and widely applicable. The results presented in the paper indicate that the proposed Q-function approximations outperform in terms of accuracy other well-known approximations carefully chosen for comparison purposes. This approximation can be used in numerous theoretical communication problems based on the Q-function calculation. In this paper, we investigate the uplink transmission for user-centric cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The largest-large-scale-fading-based access point (AP) selection method is adopted to achieve a user-centric operation. Under this user-centric framework, we propose a novel inter-cluster interference-based (IC-IB) pilot assignment scheme to alleviate pilot contamination. Considering the local characteristics of channel estimates and statistics, we propose a location-aided distributed uplink combining scheme to balance the relationship among the spectral efficiency (SE), user equipment (UE) fairness and complexity, in which local partial minimum mean-squared error (LP-MMSE) combining is adopted for some APs, while maximum-ratio (MR) combining is adopted for the remaining APs. A corresponding AP selection scheme based on a novel proposed metric representing inter-user interference is proposed. We also propose a new fairness coefficient taking SE performance into account to indicate the UE fairness. Moreover, the performance of the proposed scheme is investigated under fractional power control and max–min fairness (MMF) power control. Simulation results demonstrate that the channel estimation accuracy of our proposed IC-IB pilot assignment scheme outperforms that of the conventional pilot assignment schemes. It is also shown that compared with the benchmark LP-MMSE combining, the proposed location-aided combining trades 13.45 % average SE loss for 26.61 % UE fairness improvement and 28.58 % complexity reduction when γ = 0.6 . And by adjusting the threshold γ , a good trade-off between the average SE, UE fairness and computational complexity can be provided by the proposed scheme. Furthermore, the proposed scheme with fractional power control can better demonstrate the advantages of trade-off performance than MMF power control and full power transmission. Several information-theoretic studies on channels with output quantization have identified the capacity-achieving input distributions for different fading channels with 1-bit in-phase and quadrature (I/Q) output quantization. However, an exact characterization of the capacity-achieving input distribution for channels with multi-bit phase quantization has not been provided. In this paper, we consider four different channel models with multi-bit phase quantization at the output and identify the optimal input distribution for each channel model. We first consider a complex Gaussian channel with $b$ -bit phase-quantized output and prove that the capacity-achieving distribution is a rotated $2^{b}$ -phase shift keying (PSK). The analysis is then extended to multiple fading scenarios. We show that the optimality of rotated $2^{b}$ -PSK continues to hold under noncoherent fast fading Rician channels with $b$ -bit phase quantization when line-of-sight (LoS) is present. When channel state information (CSI) is available at the receiver, we identify $\frac {2\pi }{2^{b}}$ -symmetry and constant amplitude as the necessary and sufficient conditions for the ergodic capacity-achieving input distribution; which a $2^{b}$ -PSK satisfies. This article establishes an analytical framework for the upper bound on the average Age-of-Information (AoI) in first-come-first-served (FCFS) wireless communications where a certain level of outage probability is unavoidable. To begin with, we analyze the average AoI and derive a general upper bound for G/G/1 systems with a certain outage probability. Subsequently, for an M/M/1 system with the FCFS scheme, we obtain a concise closed-form expression of the upper bound, and further refine the upper bound after analyzing the relative error. Interestingly, it is found by the analysis that the relative error is independent of the service rate, and the upper bound becomes tighter as the outage probability increases. Based on the refined upper bound, we minimize the average AoI for the communications suffering from block Rayleigh fading. We derive a closed-form expression of the outage probability over a fading channel, and then prove that the refined upper bound is a convex function with respect to the average update generating rate. Consequently, we optimize the AoI performance by solving a convex optimization problem formulated utilizing the refined upper bound expression. Modulation recognition is the indispensable part of signal interception analysis, which has always been the research hotspot in the field of radio communication. With the increasing complexity of the electromagnetic spectrum environment, interference in signal propagation becomes more and more serious. This paper proposes a modulation recognition scheme based on multimodal feature fusion, which attempts to improve the performance of modulation recognition under different channels. Firstly, different time- and frequency-domain features are extracted as the network input in the signal preprocessing stage. The residual shrinkage building unit with channel-wise thresholds (RSBU-CW) was used to construct deep convolutional neural networks to extract spatial features, which interact with time features extracted by LSTM in pairs to increase the diversity of the features. Finally, the PNN model was adapted to make the features extracted from the network cross-fused to enhance the complementarity between features. The simulation results indicated that the proposed scheme has better recognition performance than the existing feature fusion schemes, and it can also achieve good recognition performance in multipath fading channels. We present results from quasi-simultaneous multiwavelength observations of the Galactic black hole X-ray transient MAXI J1820+070 during the decay of the 2018 outburst and its entire subsequent mini-outburst in March 2019. We fit the X-ray spectra with phenomenological and Comptonizaton models and discuss the X-ray spectral evolution in comparison with the multiwavelength behaviour of the system. The system showed a rebrightening in UV/Optical/NIR bands 7 d after the soft-to-hard transition during the main outburst decay while it was fading in X-rays and radio. In contrast, the mini-outburst occurred 165 d after the hard state transition of the initial outburst decay and was detected in all wavelengths. For both events, the measured time-scales are consistent with those observed in other black hole systems. Contemporaneous hard X-ray/soft γ-ray observations indicate a non-thermal electron energy distribution at the beginning of the UV/Optical/NIR rebrightening, whereas a thermal distribution can fit the data during the hard mini-outburst activity. The broad-band spectral energy distributions until the rebrightening are consistent with the irradiated outer accretion disc model. However, both the SEDs produced for the peak of rebrightening and close to the peak of mini-outburst provided good fits only with an additional power law component in the UV/Optical/NIR frequency ranges, which is often interpreted with a jet origin. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has stimulated their potential applications for improving the performance of wireless communication networks. In this paper, the performance of RIS aided non‐orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks with hardware impairments over Rician fading channels is investigated. More specifically, the exact and asymptotic expressions of outage probability for a pair of users, that is, the nearby user n and distant user m are derived, where the imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) and perfect SIC (pSIC) are taken into consideration. According to the approximate analyses, the diversity orders of user n with ipSIC/pSIC and user m are obtained in the high signal‐to‐noise radio regime. It indicates that the diversity orders are in connection with reflecting elements and Rician factors except the channel ordering. The impact of these parameters on outage behaviors of RIS‐NOMA networks is also analysed. In addition, the system throughput of RIS‐NOMA networks with ipSIC/pSIC is surveyed in detail. Monte Carlo simulations are present to verify the correctness of theoretical analyses that: (1) The outage probability of user n with pSIC is superior to that of orthogonal user, while the outage probability of user m is inferior to that of orthogonal user and (2) as the number of reflecting elements and Rician factors increases, the outage behaviors of RIS‐NOMA networks are enhanced carefully. Faster-than-Nyquist signaling (FTNS) has already been shown to increase the communication capacity on certain channels such as additive white Gaussian noise and block flat multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Rayleigh fading channels. The following issues, however, remain unresolved: 1) whether FTNS enables a capacity increase in generalized MIMO Rayleigh fading channels that are selective in time, frequency, and space; and 2) how channel selectivities affect the capacity and if present, the FTN capacity gain. To address the issues, this paper firstly investigates the ergodic capacity of MIMO-FTN transmission over triply-selective fading channels. We derive a low-complexity approximate capacity formula and also show how it degenerates in other channel models, such as doubly-selective single-input single-output fading channels, which can be considered as the special cases of triply-selective fading channels. The capacity evaluation results obtained under different channel conditions show that: 1) MIMO-FTN outperforms MIMO-Nyquist in terms of capacity; 2) the FTN gains are nearly consistent, while the FTN gains obtained in the frequency-selective fading channels are slightly higher than those obtained in the flat fading channels. Although LoRa modulation can achieve low-power and long-range transmission, its performance is significantly affected by fading channels. On the other hand, its low data rate limits the capacity. To mitigate these disadvantages, a new reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted LoRa uplink system is proposed in this paper, where the reflection coefficients of the RIS are generated by utilizing an $M$ -ary differential phase shift keying modulator. Moreover, a low-complexity non-coherent receiver is designed for the proposed system. The new system is able to inherit the non-coherent detection of the conventional LoRa system and also transmit additional information of $\log _{2}{M}$ bits while reducing the impact of the fading channels. Furthermore, the bit-error-rate, symbol-error-rate and throughput expressions of the system are derived in closed form. A simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-assisted cognitive overlay-based multiple input multiple output (MIMO) downlink (DL) cooperative relaying system has been considered wherein a secondary network comprising of an energy harvesting (EH) base station (BS) and possibly multiple fully wireless powered secondary users (SUs) share the spectrum of a primary network for information transmission and energy harvesting. In exchange, the secondary BS acts as a relay for the primary network and aids in transmitting information from the primary BS to the primary users (PUs) along with its own information using non-orthogonal transmission and the harvested energy. Closed-form expressions for the end-to-end outage probability (OP) at all the PUs and SUs have been obtained considering Rayleigh fading channel links and also sensitivity and saturation impairments at the energy harvesting nodes. Moreover, all the energy harvesting nodes have been assumed to be equipped with a finite battery for storing the harvested energy and rely solely on this stored energy for running the transceiver circuitry. Closed-form expressions have also been obtained to characterize the degradation due to the energy harvesting impairments and finite battery on the end-to-end OP of all the users. Furthermore, closed-form expressions for the asymptotic outage floor and diversity order have been obtained to analyze the performance of the system at high transmit power. The integration of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technologies is a hybrid technology that overcomes a myriad of problems in the 5G cellular system and beyond, including massive connectivity, low latency, and high dependability. The goal of this paper is to improve and reassess the bit error rate (BER), spectrum efficiency (SE) of the downlink (DL), average capacity rate, and outage probability (OP) of the uplink (UL) in a 5G network using MIMO. The proposed model utilizes QPSK modulation, four users with different power location coefficients, SNR, transmit power, and two contrasting bandwidths 80 and 200 MHz under selective frequency Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed model's performance is evaluated using the MATLAB software program. The DL results found that the BER and SE against transmitted power showed the MIMO-NOMA enhanced the BER performance for the best user U4 from 10−1.7 to 10−5.2 at 80 MHz bandwidth (BW), and from 10−1.5 to 10−5 at 200 MHz for transmitting power of 40 dBm. In contrast, the SE performance for the best user U4 is enhanced from 24 × 10−3 to 25 × 10−3 bits/second/Hz at 80 MHz BW and from 19.8 × 10−3 to 20 × 10−3 bps/Hz at 200 MHz BW. Although the outcomes for the UL were obtained in terms of average capacity rate and OP versus SNR at 80, and 200 MHz BW, the MIMO-NOMA result showed that the average capacity rate for the best user U4 performance improves by 12 bps/Hz for 1 dB SNR and the OP is reduced by 15 × 10−3 for 80 MHz BW and by 12 × 10−3 for 200 MHz BW at an SNR of 0.17 dB. As the BW increased the BER, the average capacity rate increased while the SE and OP decreased. For both DL/UL NOMA with and without MIMO, closed-form expressions for BER, SE, average capacity rate, and OP were obtained. An integrated navigation algorithm based on a multiple fading factors Kalman filter (MFKF) is proposed to solve the problems that the Kalman filtering (KF) algorithm easily brings about diffusion when the model becomes a mismatched or noisy, and the MFKF accuracy is reduced when the fading factor is overused. Based on the innovation covariance theory, the algorithm designs an improved basis for judging filtering anomalies and makes the timing of the introduction of the fading factor more reasonable by switching the filtering state. Different from the traditional basis of filter abnormality judgment, the improved judgment basis adopts a recursive way to continuously update the estimated value of the innovation covariance to improve the estimation accuracy of the innovation covariance, and an empirical reserve factor for the judgment basis is introduced to adapt to practical engineering applications. By establishing an inertial navigation system (INS)/global navigation satellite system (GNSS) integrated navigation model, the results show that the average positioning accuracy of the proposed algorithm is improved by 26.52% and 7.48%, respectively, compared with the KF and MFKF, and shows better robustness and self-adaptability. Most synchronization error correction codes deal with random independent insertion and deletion errors without correlation. In this paper, we propose a probabilistic channel model with correlated insertion and deletion (CID) errors to capture the data dependence applicable to the bit-patterned media recording (BPMR) system. We also investigate the error performance and decoding complexity of a concatenated LDPC-marker code over the CID channel. Furthermore, we modify the forward backward decoding algorithm to make it suitable for the CID channel, and elaborate it based on a two-dimensional state transition diagram. Compared with the conventional marker coding scheme dealing with random errors, the concatenated LDPC-marker code takes into account the dependence between synchronization errors, improves the error performance, and reduces the decoding complexity. The BER performance of the concatenated LDPC-marker code is improved by more than 50% on average, and the decoding time is reduced by nearly 35% when the LDPC code (n = 4521, k = 3552) and the marker code (Nm = 2, Nc = 30) are used over the CID channel. In this paper, we investigate a mobile edge computing (MEC) network, where the user has some computational tasks to be assisted by multiple computational access points (CAPs) through offloading. We consider practical communication scenarios with limited spectrum resources, and the cochannel interference arising from the aggressive reuse of frequency severely degrades the system offloading performance. To enhance the system performance, we provide three CAP selection criteria to choose one best CAP among multiple ones. Specifically, criterion I maximizes the computational capability at the CAP, criterion II minimizes the interfering power, while criterion III maximizes the instantaneous channel gain of data link. In time-varying channel environments, the CAP selection may be outdated, which deteriorates the system performance. For the three criteria, we evaluate the system outage probability in the outdated channel state information (CSI) by taking into account the latency, energy consumption and data rate, and provide the analytical and asymptotic expressions of outage probability, from which we obtain some critical insights on the system design. Simulation results are finally demonstrated to verify the proposed studies. In particular, criterion III under the perfect CSI can achieve the system whole diversity order coming from multiple CAPs. Random access systems are potential for Internet of Things in the future wireless communication network for its operational simplicity. Irregular repetition slotted ALOHA (IRSA) system is one of the high-efficiency random access systems. In this paper, performance analysis of the irregular repetition slotted ALOHA systems with short-packet, i.e. finite-blocklength, transmission for the quasi-static Rayleigh fading channel is given. A cumulative distribution function of signal-to-interference power ratio (SIR) is derived and thus a closed-form expression of an average packet error probability (PEP) at the SIR with short packets for the Rayleigh fading channel is given. This paper investigates the outage performance of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT)-enabled relay networks with the decode-and-forward relaying protocol, where the effect of the energy triggering threshold at the relay on the system performance is considered. The closed-form expressions of the system outage probability and throughput are derived in Rician channel fading. Monte Carlo Simulation method is used to verify the accuracy of the derived closed-form expressions. The effects of some system parameters on the system performances are discussed via simulations, which show that the system outage probability increases with the increase of the minimum transmission rate required by the users and also decreases with the increase of the energy conversion efficiency. Besides, the system throughput increaseswith the increment of the transmit power of the source node, as well as the energy conversion efficiency. To realize high energy-efficient, high spectrum-efficient, and high-throughput data transmission, a multi-carrier differential chaos shift keying communication system with hybrid index modulation, referred to as HIM-MC-DCSK system, is proposed in this paper. In the HIM-MC-DCSK system, we intelligently integrate the carrier-number-index technique and carrier-index technique into the MC-DCSK modulation in order to significantly boost the transmission efficiency in wireless communication systems. Especially, we use a pair of orthogonal signals to represent the active and inactive subcarriers in the HIM-MC-DCSK system so as to exploit all the subcarriers to transmit information bits. In addition, the theoretical bit-error-rate (BER) expressions of the HIM-MC-DCSK system are derived over additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and multipath Rayleigh fading channels. Also, the data rate, spectrum efficiency, energy efficiency, and complexity of the proposed system are carefully analyzed. Security is a crucial feature of current (5G) and even more for future (6G) communication networks. While the innate nature of the wireless channel is an issue for guaranteeing security, its physical characteristics can be exploited for protecting confidential data. Physical-layer Security (PLS) mechanisms take advantage of unique features of the transmission media or of the user equipment to introduce an additional level of data protection. The physical-layer security (PLS) can be seen as the first level of defense. The noise-loop (NL) modulation is a PLS technique that intrinsically provides confidentiality. In this paper, we first provide the theoretical analysis to evaluate the reliability and security in multipath fading channels, and then the theoretical results are evaluated by experimentation. A Software Defined Radio (SDR) testbed that exploits the NL secure modulation was implemented and a measurement campaign has been carried out in an indoor environment, with passive and active malicious nodes. An evaluation of the complexity of the proposed system is also reported, showing that the NL has low hardware resource occupancy and low computational cost. Due to the great demand of throughput and reliability for multimedia applications in Fifth Generation (5G) networks, many broadcasting systems adopt the Millimeter Wave (mmWave) technology to address the lack of the spectrum resources. As one of 5G-PPP projects, Internet of Radio Light (IoRL) project adopts 40GHz mmWave band to support a high-speed and stable Ultra-High-Definition (UHD) television broadcasting service in the indoor environment. Because of the high frequency property, mmWave bands usually suffers from the high path loss and the penetration loss. Thus, in order to overcome these issues, directional antennas are employed to provide additional power gain while increasing transmission distance. However, the mmWave with directional antennas brings additional problems, such as limited transmission angle and more multipath effects. Therefore, in this paper, for better understanding of impact factors on the signal quality and transmission coverage of the directional 40GHz mmWave band in the indoor environment, a measurement campaign is introduced in detail and the channel characteristics are measured and analysed in varying cases. The mainly concerned characteristics are path loss, shadow fading, average Power Delay Profile (PDP), Root-Mean-Square (RMS) delay spread, arrival rate and coherence bandwidth. All Measured characteristic values are summarised in three tables at the end of this paper. Besides of these, as a reference of channel analysis and a metric of signal quality and effective coverage, Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) of received signal in each case is measured and discussed.
