A hybrid ferrite‐Al‐Ni‐Co permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PMa‐SyRM) for an air‐conditioner compressor is proposed. Al‐Ni‐Co PMs have high residual flux density similar to rare‐earth PMs such as Nd‐Fe‐B and Sm‐Co. Therefore, the performance parameters of the PMa‐SyRM such as power factor, efficiency etc., with Al‐Ni‐Co PMs can be improved without significantly increasing the cost of the motor. However, Al‐Ni‐Co PMs have a steep IInd‐quadrant B‐H curve, and the challenge lies in addressing their demagnetisation issues. In the proposed hybrid PMa‐SyRM, the rotor geometry is suitably optimised for placing the Al‐Ni‐Co PMs in the centre flux barriers to address the demagnetisation issues. Further, an analytical magnetic circuit is presented to design the proposed PMa‐SyRM. Later, 2‐D finite element analysis of the proposed motor including the demagnetisation analysis of PMs and stress analysis of the rotor is carried out and presented. A prototype is fabricated, experimental validation is carried out, and the results of the performance and cost are compared with that of ferrite and hybrid ferrite‐Nd‐Fe‐B PMa‐SyRM. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis, electromagnetic evaluation, and prototyping of a novel motor structure called the sinusoidal rotor switched reluctance motor. In this innovative design, a significant departure from the conventional switched reluctance motor is observed, as modifications are made to the rotor with the goal of reduction torque ripple and radial force characteristics. Importantly, despite these advancements, the proposed motor retains the weight and volume characteristics of the traditional, type. The key attributes of these motors have been thoroughly assessed using the three‐dimensional finite element method, complemented by a sensitivity analysis aimed at identifying the most optimal configuration within the proposed design. The findings reveal that the suggested structure successfully achieves a notable reduction in torque ripple and radial force when compared to the traditional counterpart, albeit with an expected reduction in average torque. These features render the new topology particularly well‐suited for applications that prioritise noise and vibration reduction. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the proposed topology is corroborated through experimental tests, providing empirical evidence of its advantages and potential for practical applications. This paper proposes a new design for line-start operation of synchronous reluctance motors. In the past years, synchronous reluctance motors have been studied by many researchers. Due to high efficiency, they have gained increasing interest because in the synchronous operation, there is limited losses in the rotor. On the other hand, line-start operation of the synchronous reluctance motors is an important challenge that can make this type of the motors popular in many applications. However, line-start operation techniques should not considerably affect the steady-state characteristics of the motor. In the proposed design, the arrangement, size and shape of the rotor conductor bars are designed based on the rotor magnetic circuit difference between induction and reluctance synchronous motors. Complete assessment of the motor parameters are examined using finite element analysis. The proposed structure improves the starting characteristics of the motor. Moreover, power factor of the proposed motor is slightly increased in comparison to that of conventional line-start synchronous reluctance motors. The results obviously show effectiveness of the proposed line-start operation strategy for the synchronous reluctance motors. High torque ripple can be observed with a 6/4 variable flux reluctance machine (VFRM). In order to minimize the torque ripple in VFRMs, this paper presents a harmonic injection method for 6/4 VFRMs with an open-winding configuration. By analyzing the impact of harmonics on VFRMs, the method involves detecting the third harmonic using a first-order low-pass filter (FLPF). Subsequently, the extracted harmonics are controlled and shifted to counteract the voltage harmonics in both inverters without inducing phase imbalance or overvoltage. With the proposed method, the torque ripple can be significantly reduced by about 50% under load conditions. The effectiveness of the harmonic injection method is validated through a prototype VFRM. This paper contains research on the development of a fault-tolerant six-phase synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) based on the stator adopted from a general-purpose three-phase induction motor. In the design and calculation process, an extended Clarke transformation was developed for a six-phase asymmetrical system. To verify the proposed design approach, a field–circuit model of electromagnetic phenomena in the studied motor was developed and used to study the motor performance. The increased torque value and reduction in torque ripples were confirmed by comparison to the classical three-phase SynRM design. To illustrate fault tolerance capabilities, the operation of the studied three- and six-phase synchronous reluctance motors under inverter-fault conditions was examined. The conducted analysis shows, among other things, that from the electromagnetic performance point of view, only the proposed six-phase machine is able to properly operate under inverter-fault conditions. The results of the winding design calculations, the performed simulations of six-phase motor operation, and the preliminary tests of the prototype motor are presented and discussed. This paper proposes a new double mover configuration of a linear switched reluctance motor (LSRM). The proposed design is established for optimization of the motional forces and to ensure a high-grade electromechanical energy conversion process. The major drawback of the traditional linear machine is that its force densities within and throughout its area is produced in its radial direction of the yoke and does not contribute to its motion or twisting force of the rotor. If these normal forces happen to be in the direction of motion, a larger motional force profile for SRM is yielded. Based on these guidelines, a new LSRM is developed. In order to compare the energy conversion efficiency of LSRM with that of the conventional SRM, a finite element model is constructed. The proposed system is simulated using the FEM software and tested under four conditions. Further, an experimental prototype of the proposed machine is also developed and tested in the laboratory. The results obtained from the prototype indicate that the proposed geometry offers superior performance in terms of high-power density and higher percentage of the national forces. The Solow residual method, traditionally pivotal for calculating total factor productivity (TFP), is typically not applied to green TFP calculations due to its exclusion of undesired outputs. Diverging from traditional approaches and other frontier methodologies such as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA), this paper integrates undesired outputs and three types of spatial spillover effects into the conventional Solow framework, thereby creating a new spatiotemporal econometric Solow residual method (STE-SRM). Utilizing this novel method, the study computes the industrial green TFPs for 280 Chinese cities from 2003 to 2019, recalculates these TFPs using DEA-SBM and Bayesian SFA for the same cities and periods, and assesses the accuracy of the STE-SRM-derived TFPs through comparative analysis. Additionally, the paper explores the statistical properties of China's urban industrial green TFPs as derived from the STE-SRM, employing Dagum's Gini coefficient and spatial convergence analyses. The findings first indicate that by incorporating undesired outputs and spatial spillover into the Solow residual method, green TFPs are computable in alignment with the traditional Solow logic, although the allocation of per capita inputs and undesired outputs hinges on selecting the optimal empirical production function. Second, China's urban industrial green TFPs, calculated using the STE-SRM with the spatial Durbin model with mixed effects as the optimal model, show that cities like Huangshan, Fangchenggang, and Sanya have notably higher TFPs, whereas Jincheng, Datong, and Taiyuan display lower TFPs. Third, comparisons of China's urban industrial green TFP calculations reveal that those derived from the STE-SRM demonstrate broader but more concentrated results, while Bayesian SFA results are narrower and less concentrated, and DEA-SBM findings sit between these extremes. Fourth, the study highlights significant spatial heterogeneity in China's urban industrial green TFPs across different regions—eastern, central, western, and northeast China—with evident sigma convergence across the urban landscape, though absolute beta convergence is significant only in a limited subset of cities and time periods. This paper presents research on several factors influencing the stabbing behaviour of stratified panels made of aramid fabric Twaron® SRM509 Teijin Aramid BV (Arnhem, The Netherlands). The inputs in the test campaign were the number of layers, the impact energy, and the sample size. Tests were performed on small samples (130 mm × 130 mm) on an Instron® CEAST 9350 drop-tower impact system (Norwood, MA, USA) and on larger samples (400 mm × 400 mm) using a test installation with the same values of the impact energy. Knife type S1 was used, with the geometry recommended in NIJ Standard 0115.00 Stab Resistance of Body Armor SEM, and macro photography investigations revealed the failure mechanisms of panel, layers and fibres. A very important conclusion of this study regarding the stabbing performance of fabric Twaron® SRM 509 in particular, but also in general for panels for body protection is that a research study could start on small size samples, with an accurately instrumented machine, in order to establish the influence of significant factors of stab resistance (energy level, number of layers in a panel, etc.), as these samples are less expensive and less time consuming, but the study should be continued to examine larger size samples. Aiming at the influence of eccentric faults on the performance of synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM), the distribution characteristics and change rules of dynamic electromagnetic stress before and after eccentric faults of SynRM were studied. A dynamic electromagnetic stress calculation model combining eccentric fault finite element method and Maxwell tensor method is established under the influence of magnetic saturation. The dynamic electromagnetic stress before and after the eccentric fault of the rotor surface, rotor magnetic ribs, and stator tooth wall are calculated, and the differences in the electromagnetic stress distribution are analyzed in detail. The analysis methods and results of electromagnetic stress provide a reference for the design and structure optimization of SynRM, and it also presents a theoretical guarantee for the smooth and orderly operation of SynRM. To achieve high precision and robust control of switched reluctance machines (SRMs), this paper proposes a novel rotor position estimation method based on gain-optimized sliding mode observer (SMO) with neural networks and whale optimization algorithm. For the SMO, this paper uses the easily measured phase current to constitute the error function of the SMO, which requires less pre-stored data. Using the neural networks' powerful nonlinear mapping capability, the relationship between the sliding mode gains and speed estimation error and the position estimation error is obtained, and then the whale optimization algorithm is used to find the optimal sliding mode gains in the restricted range. This paper introduces a novel index for static eccentricity (SE) fault diagnosis in synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs). Although SynRMs with rotor barriers under SE have been modeled in a few papers, any indices for the fault detection have not yet been reported. The proposed index is a specific frequency pattern in the motor current, which can also determine the fault severity. A novel analytical magnetic field investigation is applied to ascertain the proposed index. An accurate nonlinear numerical method is proposed for the motor inductances calculation. The model considers the rotor flux barriers, magnetic saturation, and the stator slots effect. The air gap flux density and the motor current are then achieved. The fast Fourier transform is exploited as a signal-processing tool to calculate motor current spectra. Then, a two-dimension time-stepping finite element method is used to attest of the proposed numerical model. Effectiveness of the proposed index is verified by simulation and experimental tests. The inverter dead time effect is non-negligible for the control performance of sensorless synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) drives at low speeds. In this paper, a reduced-order observer-based sensorless control method for SynRM drives combined with the adaptive linear neurons (ADALINE)-based dead-time compensation is proposed. The reduced-order observer-based sensorless control method is presented, for which is parameter tuning is easy. On this basis, the dead-time compensation strategy using ADALINE filters is proposed to reduce the voltage harmonics effect on the estimation performance of the reduced-order observer. With ADALINE filters, the sixth current harmonic can be successfully filtered out by compensating the voltage directly or fitting the current to compensate the voltage. In this way, the low-speed estimation performance of the reduced-order observer is improved. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified on a 3 kW SynRM experimental platform. There is limited research focused on achieving optimal torque control performance of Switched Reluctance Generators (SRGs). The majority of existing studies tend to favor voltage or power control strategies. However, a significant drawback of SRGs is their susceptibility to high torque ripple. In power generation systems, torque ripple implicates fluctuations in the generated power of the generator. Moreover, high torque ripple can lead to mechanical vibrations and noise in the powertrain, impacting the overall system performance. In this paper, a Torque Sharing Function (TSF) with Indirect Instantaneous Torque Control (IITC) for SRG applied to Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) is proposed to minimize torque ripple. The proposed method adjusts the shared reference torque function between the phases based on instantaneous torque, rather than the existing TSF methods formulated with a mathematical expression. Additionally, this paper introduces an innovative speed control scheme for SRG drive using a Fuzzy Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Command (FSTSMC) method. Notably robust against parameter uncertainties and payload disturbances, the proposed scheme ensures finite-time convergence even in the presence of external disturbances, while effectively reducing chattering. To assess the effectiveness of the proposed methods, comprehensive comparisons are made with traditional control techniques, including Proportional–Integral (PI), Integral Sliding Mode Control (ISMC), and Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Control (STSMC). The simulation results, obtained using MATLAB®/SIMULINK® under various speeds and mechanical torque conditions, demonstrate the superior performance and robustness of the proposed approaches. This study presents a thorough experimental analysis of a 250 W four-phase 8/6 SRG. The generator was connected to a DC resistive load, and the analysis focuses on assessing its performance and operational characteristics across different rotational speeds. Aiming at resolving the parameter uncertainty of the servo system under multi‐working conditions, a flatness‐based switched linear system model is proposed. Firstly, a fifth‐order linear switched discrete‐time system with uncertain parameters is established. The flatness properties of switched system is described and a de Bruijn's graph‐based framework is introduced for graphical description of the switched system. In addition, non‐linear bode diagrams are obtained via sweeping signals with multiple amplitudes. The discrete equations of the electromechanical servo system are established by the bode plots. The unknown parameters of the subsystems in switched model are identified by the simulated annealing algorithm, and compared with the least squares method to verify the accuracy of the identified parameters. Finally, the simulation model and experimental platform are constructed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The switched model is compared with the classical transfer function model and single subsystems. The results indicate that the resolution of parameter uncertainty in servo systems is effective. The accuracy of the established switched model is about 99.5%. In the traditional control scheme of a 12/8-pole bearingless switched reluctance motor (BSRM), radial force and torque are usually controlled as a compromise due to the conflict between their effective output areas. Additionally, each phase requires individual power circuits and is excited in turn to produce a continuous levitation force, resulting in high power device requirements and high controller costs. This paper discusses a 12/8-pole single-winding hybrid-rotor bearingless switched reluctance motor (HBSRM) with a hybrid rotor consisting of cylindrical and salient-pole lamination segments. The asymmetric rotor of the HBSRM slightly increases the complexity of its structure and magnetic circuit, but makes it possible to generate the desired radial force at any rotor angular position. A control scheme for the HBSRM is developed to utilize the independent excitation of the four windings in one phase to generate the desired levitation force at any rotor angular position, and it requires only half the number of power circuits used in the conventional control scheme of a 12/8-pole single-winding BSRM. Different from the average torque chosen to be controlled in traditional methods, this scheme directly regulates the instantaneous total torque produced by all excited phases together and presents a current algorithm to optimize the torque contribution of each phase so as to reduce torque pulsation, and the improved performance of this bearingless motor is finally validated by simulation analysis. This paper describes a simplified one-phase equivalent circuit model of three-phase salient pole synchronous machines and synchronous reluctance machines. The model represents the pole saliency as a susceptance, with a magnitude based on the pole saliency and a phase angle based on twice the load angle. The reluctance torque itself is then modeled equivalent to a conductance. The model is made as an extension to Norton equivalents, where the internal inductance is connected as a shunt. This approach shares similarities to the magnetization shunt branch in circuit models of transformers and induction motors. The model is derived using the rotating d q -frame, using Park transform and two-reaction theory. The model is then rewritten to better fit one-phase equivalent circuit models, with the terminal voltage as the angular reference. Given the high saturation, strong nonlinearity, and tight coupling characteristics of the magnetic paths in a switched reluctance motor (SRM), accurately modeling flux-linkage is challenging, thus leading to excessive torque ripple during SRM torque control. In order to enhance the precision of the SRM flux-linkage model, a neural network-based method for the parameter identification of SRM's nonlinear flux-linkage model was proposed in this study. Logistic mapping elements were incorporated into the feedback layer of the diagonal recurrent neural network (DRNN), and chaotic control parameters were designed. Then, the construction of an analytical model of the nonlinear exponential flux-linkage function using the chaotic diagonal recurrent neural network (CDRNN) was established. By utilizing sample data of flux-linkage, current, and angular position, the parameters of this model were estimated, thus achieving a precise nonlinear exponential function model of the flux-linkage. Results show that, the integration of logistic mapping in the CDRNN feedback layer effectively prevents the local minima typically associated with conventional DRNN. The maximum error in the identified flux-linkage is less than 0.01 Wb, and the accuracy reached 95%. Compared with the DRNN method, the CDRNN approach demonstrates significantly reduced errors and higher model precision. Harmonic magnetic gears (HMGs) have the advantage of lubrication‐free, high speed ratio and high torque density, which make it an attractive solution for safety critical applications. Due to eccentricity caused by machining and assembly, HMG suffers from dynamic eccentricity (DE) in operation, however, its effect on HMG performance is still unknown. Transmission characteristic of HMG under DE is studied. First, a magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) model of HMG is proposed to build the magnetic coupling torque analytically, and the geometry of air gap is analysed parametrically to derive its equivalent reluctances. Flux density and coupling torque can be acquired by solving MEC equations. The accuracy of the MEC model is verified by finite element method. To study the transmission characteristic, an electromechanical coupling simulation framework for HMG is constructed, motion trajectories of rotors are investigated in case of DE, the output torque in locked‐rotor condition and speed response in continuous operation can be derived by simulation. It is found that torque ripples that have the same frequency with input rotor are induced by DE; the results are then verified in the experiment. As rare-earth permanent magnet prices continue to fluctuate, interest in non-rare-earth permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motors (PMa-SynRMs) is increasing. However, non-rare-earth PMa-SynRMs have a multi-layer structure with interior permanent magnets to compensate for the low magnetic fields. Therefore, the rotor has several design parameters, and electromagnetic analysis is time-consuming. To overcome these challenges, magnetic equivalent circuit analysis was used to perform fast electromagnetic analysis of non-rare-earth PMa-SynRMs. In addition, the validity of the proposed method was confirmed through a comparison of the obtained results with those of finite element analysis. In this study, a low-cost, innovative, and non-intrusive rotor position detection system and the phase excitation algorithm were proposed for the external rotor switched reluctance motor (ERSRM). The benefits of the developed rotor position sensing system are its low cost and the accurate detection of the starting position of the rotor. Also, the rotor speed was calculated in real-time using the developed system. Another benefit is that the phase excitation signals are directly generated from this system. Therefore, the complexity of the control algorithm is reduced. To prove the effectiveness of the position sensing system, the motor was operated with the proportional–integral (PI) speed controller. The designed speed controller was implemented on the Texas Instruments (TI) TMS320F28379D Launchpad and experimentally tested. The control results given in section 4 showed that using the phase excitation signals coming from the developed Hall effect sensor-based rotor position detection system, the motor was operated successfully with low torque ripple. There are usually noise problems when the position sensorless control of a synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) is carried out by high-frequency (HF) signal injection method. Due to the special structure, the cross-saturation effect of the SynRM is particularly serious, resulting in reduced position observation accuracy. In this paper, a variable-angle random HF voltage injection strategy with cross-saturation effect compensation is proposed for position sensorless SynRM drives. Random number generation based on the chaotic mapping method is used to generate random HF voltage signals with different frequencies for injection; the current power spectral density (PSD) distribution is extended and the HF noise can be reduced. A control strategy based on variable-angle square-wave injection is proposed to suppress the cross-saturation effect. By measuring the position error curves of different loads off-line and polynomial fitting the curves, the position error is achieved by combining with the corresponding signal demodulation algorithm. The proposed method does not require additional hardware resources and can maintain high control accuracy and robustness. Synchronous reluctance machines are considered a cost-effective solution for several industrial applications and present potential efficiency benefits compared to induction motors. In industrial applications, power supply oscillations can lead to short-term disturbances that can affect the drive operation; therefore, the control must be robust to guarantee high efficiency and service continuity. The focus of this study was to identify the speed boundaries considering different values of applied DC-link voltage, taking into account the highly nonlinear magnetic behavior of the machine and its cross-coupling characteristics. In addition, a comprehensive carrier-based implementation of a pulse width modulation strategy was proposed to achieve optimal efficiency in both the machine and converter, which is essential in the presence of "weak" grids. The proposed technique was demonstrated to meet the desired reference torque and rated speed, even during DC-link voltage drops (up to 7.4% of the rated voltage). The proposed methodology was experimentally validated on a 90 kW SynRM drive with a broader modulation range and higher efficiency. The authors present a new design of a PM‐assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PM‐SynRM) with uneven air‐gap length to improve the power factor and enhance the torque production capability. The rotor structure is modified to properly shift rotor magnetic poles and therefore (i) increases the back‐EMF and the electromagnetic torque, (ii) allows electromagnetic torque and reluctance torque components peak near the same current phase angle. The proposed solution is simple, does not require changing the arrangement of magnets and/or flux barriers and is applicable to all types of PM‐SynRMs. Sensitivity analysis is carried out to determine the extent of which the proposed magnetic pole shifting may impact the resultant torque profile. To assess the level of success, the electromagnetic characteristics of the proposed design (e.g. torque, power factor, and back‐EMF) are compared against the baseline structure under the same operating conditions. Real-time hardware-in-the-loop-(HIL) simulation integration is now a fundamental component of the power electronics control design cycle. This integration is required to test the efficacy of controller implementations. Even though hardware-in-the-loop-(HIL) tools use FPGA devices with computing power that is rapidly evolving, developers constantly need to balance the ease of deploying models with acceptable accuracy. This study introduces a methodology for implementing a full-bridge inverter and buck converter utilising the associate-discrete-circuit-(ADC) model, which is optimised for real-time simulator applications. Additionally, this work introduces a new approach for choosing ADC parameter values by using the artificial-bee-colony-(ABC) algorithm, the firefly algorithm (FFA), and the genetic algorithm (GA). The implementation of the ADC-based model enables the development of a consistent architecture in simulation, regardless of the states of the switches. The simulation results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed methodology in selecting optimal parameters for an ADC-switch-based full-bridge inverter and buck converter. The segmental translator linear switched reluctance motor (STLSRM) is a special type of linear switched reluctance motor (LSRM) that has more output power than its conventional type. Therefore, it can be a good choice for certain applications. Heat is one of the factors limiting the output in machines. Therefore, predicting the thermal distribution of machine is as important as the magnetic design. A comprehensive thermal model is presented based on the lumped parameter approach for STLSRM, which predicts temperature distribution in different parts of this motor, including slot winding, end‐winding, stator pole, stator yoke, and the moving part. Considering that the proposed thermal model depends on dimensions and materials used in machine, it can be used for other designs of the STLSRM. The presented thermal model is applied to a typical STLSRM and temperature is determined in its different parts. Direct Instantaneous Torque Control (DITC) with an adaptive turn‐on angle technique is presented in this paper to improve the torque ripple of the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) for Electric Vehicle applications. Torque ripple suppression is achieved by employing two operating modes during the commutation interval. First, both the outgoing and incoming phase states are modified to track the required torque during the incoming phase's minimum inductance area. As soon as the incoming phase leaves its minimum inductance zone, the outgoing phase is demagnetised, and only the incoming phase state is modified for torque tracking. In addition, a closed‐loop regulator is used to dynamically control the turn‐on angle that drives the incoming current to reach its first peak at the instant of switching between the two operation modes when the rotor and stator poles initiate overlap, thus increasing the motor's efficiency. Simulation results showed that the proposed control method has superior advantages over the traditional DITC and Average Torque Controller. In this study, a generalized torque estimation method is proposed for synchronous motors, including surface permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSMs), synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs), and interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) for building the analytical motor model. The average motor torque is estimated using the Lorentz force by the generated flux density in the air gap to determine the relationships among torque, flux density, and injected current. In the proposed method, the generated flux density is derived step by step by considering the effects of magnetic flux saturation, the stator slot, the rotor barrier, and permanent magnets (PMs) to ensure that the generated average torque complies with the operating condition of the motor. To verify the proposed method, the output torque of finite element analysis (FEA), Maxwell 2D, is compared to the proposed method in a SPMSM. Moreover, a phasor diagram is plotted to determine the mechanism through which torque is generated in SynRMs and IPMSMs. A SynRM and an IPMSM with ferrites PMs are analyzed using the proposed method, FEA, and the experimental results of this study indicate the effectiveness. The Dual–Vector model predictive control (DV–MPC) method can improve the steady–state control performance of motor drives compared to using the single–vector method in one switching cycle. However, this performance enhancement generally increases the computational burden due to the exponential increase in the number of vector selections, lowering the system's dynamic response. Alternatively, limiting the vector combinations will sacrifice system steady–state performance. To address this issue, this paper proposes an enhanced DV–MPC method that can determine the optimal vector combinations along with their duration time within minimized calculation times. Compared to the existing DV–MPC methods, the proposed enhanced technique can achieve excellent steady–state performance while maintaining a low computational burden. This study proposes a space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) driving method for the switched reluctance motor (SRM), which enables the use of a standard full‐bridge power converter to drive a three‐phase SRM with a ring structure, in place of the traditional asymmetric H‐bridge (AHB). Based on this driving topology, the SVPWM approach is employed to drive the SRM, and its performance is compared with that of the conventional SRM driving method utilising the AHB. The findings indicate that the SVPWM method can effectively reduce torque ripple in the SRM. The paper presents the procedure for determining the factor of safety (FoS) using the strength reduction method (SRM) for the case of a concrete damage plasticity constitutive model. The SRM was originally used in a slope stability analysis and in its original form, this method was applied by reducing the shear strength of the material. Since damage in concrete occurs due to exceeding the normal stresses in the principal directions, and not due to exceeding the shear strength, this method was modified and adapted to the concrete damage plasticity constitutive model. Instead of reducing the failure surface, the parameters which describe the mechanical behavior in the case of uniaxial compression and uniaxial tension were reduced. In this way, the reduction of stress and the corresponding strain was carried out in the entire range of total strain, without changing the shape of the failure surface in the deviator plane. For the proposed methodology, a numerical algorithm was developed and implemented into the software PAK. The algorithm was verified through test examples and the obtained results were compared with analytically calculated FoS. Switched reluctance motors (SRMs) face challenges in achieving high performances in terms of the power factor, torque per ampere, and torque ripples. Although several parameters impact their performance, magnetic saliency has a significant impact. This paper presents a study on the influence of the saliency ratio on the performance of switched reluctance motors. A detailed design procedure for a mid-drive electric motor for a high-performance electric bike is presented. A systematic methodology is adopted to estimate the power rating for desired vehicle performance while considering the vehicle's mechanical and aerodynamic parameters. Additionally, the paper discusses and analyzes the design of two SRM motor configurations with different rotor poles (6/4 and 6/10) while performing magnetostatic analysis for generated torque validation. A parametric study is performed on the 6/10 SRM design for further improvement in the torque profile while keeping the same fill factor and electrical loading. Furthermore, the transient analysis in Ansys Maxwell 2D for both SRMs confirms the designed performance. The results shows that the SRM with higher rotor poles (6/10) is a better choice. The rotor of the axial split‐phase bearingless switched reluctance motor (ASPBSRM) is structured with convex poles. The magnetic flux between the stator and the rotor varies with the rotor position, resulting in time‐dependent displacement stiffness and current stiffness coefficients of the suspension force. This scenario leads to a time‐varying characteristic of the suspension system. This study analyzed the electromagnetic characteristics of the suspension force in the ASPBSRM to characterize the time‐varying suspension system accurately. The study elucidated the hinge relationship between the magnetic flux in the suspension system and the rotor position. Moreover, a mathematical model for the suspension force considering the magnetic flux multitooth hinge was constructed by leveraging the advantages of the Maxwell stress method for the localized modelling and adopting the concept of the main edge magnetic path parallel analysis. Doubly salient electromagnetic machine (DSEM) can constitute a competitive rugged starter generator (SG) system. But under the traditional startup control method, the field current is set to the rated value regardless of speed or load torque conditions, and the phase currents are controlled with standard angle commutation, bringing in large power loss as well as non‐negligible torque ripple. To overcome these shortcomings, based on the established DSEM power loss calculation model, a currents distribution strategy is proposed according to the obtained quantitative relationship between DSEM power loss and field current under multiple speed and load torque conditions. Then, to identify the load torque for practical implementation, a novel torque observer is designed based on back propagation (BP) neural network algorithm. Afterwards, to further improve the startup torque performance, currents distribution with advanced angle commutation (AAC) strategy is put forward, where the optimal advanced angle is selected from a 3‐D lookup table to achieve the minimal commutation torque ripple. Under the proposed control strategies, DSEM power loss as well as the output torque ripple are desired to be decreased, the simulation and experimental results on a 12/8‐pole DSEM prototype verify the correctness and feasibility of the proposed strategies under multiple operating conditions. A MATLAB environment based mathematical model of a 4- phase Switched Reluctance Machine (SRM) with fewer experimental flux linkage and static torque data, with possible measurements using instruments within accuracy and precision, and more extended data with interpolation respectively is presented. The main objective of this research is to investigate the performance of SRM with variable available data used as lookup data in the model of SRM. Firstly, the necessary experimental input data is discussed. Then, these data points are extended for a range of current and rotor positions. Random jump of network communication topology challenges the tracking accuracy of linear switched reluctance motor (LSRM) system. This paper studies the pilot‐following consensus control of the multiple direct‐drive motion system (MDDMS) with semi‐Markov jump topology. The mathematical model of LSRM is constructed and the multi‐phase excitation strategy is studied. The directed graph is used to model the information transmission among the leaders and follower, and a new mechanism consensus based on previous states is provided. A consensus system based on semi‐Markov jump topology is constructed and the problem of consensus is shifted into a problem of stability analysis. A sufficient condition for consensus problem is obtained by using semi‐Markov switching system theory and graph theory. The MDDMS achieves consensus in the form of exponential convergence under the designed consensus controller. Currently, there are few systematic position control parameter optimization methods for planar switched reluctance motors (PSRMs); how to effectively optimize the control parameters of PSRMs is one of the critical issues that needs to be urgently solved. Therefore, a nonlinear dynamic model-based position control parameter optimization method of PSRMs is proposed in this paper. First, to improve the accuracy of the motor dynamics model, a Hammerstein–Wiener model based on the BP neural network input–output nonlinear module is established by combining the linear model and nonlinear model structures so that the nonlinear and linear characteristics of the system are characterized simultaneously. Then, a position control parameter optimization system of PSRMs is developed using the established Hammerstein–Wiener model. In addition, with a self-designed simulated annealing adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm (SAAPSO), the position control parameter optimization system is performed offline iteratively to obtain the optimal position control parameters. Simulations and experiments are carried out and the corresponding results show that the optimal position control parameters obtained by the proposed method can be directly applied in the actual control system of PSRMs and the control performance is improved effectively using the obtained optimal control parameters. This article proposes a new simulation strategy to support the calculation of the angular interval of the current supply to minimize the torque ripple in switched reluctance machines, focusing on the motor working condition. Supposing the best angular interval is strongly linked to the working condition of the machine, a formula is needed to calculate the boundary angles of the intervals of the current supply for each phase, starting from real-time speed and electromagnetic torque. Starting from the dataset of simulations made with this new strategy, linear regression was used to train a model that computes useful formulas. The aim of this research is to show how the application of simple calculations allows torque ripple and power losses to be reduced, i.e., RMS phase currents, without altering the geometry of the machine. For recycling waste batteries, high-gain DC-DC provides a great solution. In this article, the design and optimization of a high-gain converter–synchronous rectification low-inductance current secondary boost converter (SLIC-QBC) is studied. The optimization objective of this article is to propose an automatic design method for passive components and the switching frequency of the converter to improve efficiency and power density. A machine learning-integrated optimization method is proposed to minimize the converter mass and power loss of the converter. In this method, first, a component-based automatic design model is built with embedded SLIC-QBC simulation. Then, a series of design schemes is generated within a large parameter range, and training data for machine learning are collected. Support vector machine (SVM) and artificial neural network (ANN) are used to validate the converter design scheme, where ANN establishes the mapping relationship from design parameters to optimization objectives. This paper presents research on an unconventional electric machine. It is a hybrid excited machine which includes the features of three types of machines: the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine, the Synchronous Machine, and the Synchronous Reluctance Machine. Therefore, a broad literature review related to the above-mentioned types of machines was constructed. The well-known Permanent Magnet assisted Synchronous Reluctance Machine joins features of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine and Synchronous Reluctance Machine topologies. This paper shows the results of the innovative design of the Hybrid Excited Permanent Magnet assisted Synchronous Reluctance Machine, which additionally has advantages of the Synchronous Machine. In the article the basic methods of electromagnetic flux control and the designs using them are also presented. In recent years, there has been a significant focus on synchronous reluctance motors (SynRM) owing to their impressive efficiency and absence of magnetic material. Although the SynRM shows great potential for use in electric vehicles, its widespread adoption is limited by unmodeled dynamics and external disturbances. Moreover, the uncertainty factor significantly restricts SynRM's peak efficiency and superior control performance, leading to an unjustifiable current loop reference command. To address these issues, this work presents various new research contributions which focus on the robust control of SynRM to optimize performance through the novel reaching law-based sliding mode control. Initially, a novel advanced sliding mode control reaching law (ASMCRL) with adaptive gain is proposed, to enhance the acceleration of the system state reaching the sliding surface. After that, an extended state observer (ESO) is designed to estimate and compensate for the overall disturbances of the system. Finally, the ASMCRL and ESO are integrated to design two nonlinear controllers namely, the disturbance-rejection sliding mode controller (DRSMC) and the disturbance-rejection sliding mode speed regulator (DRSMSR) for SynRM. The proposed DRSMSR eliminates the steady-state error and eradicates inherent chattering in DRSMC. Moreover, this yields a system trajectory that converges to a predetermined proximity of the sliding surface, irrespective of any lumped disturbances. The steady-state error of DRSMSR is less as compared to DRSMC. Furthermore, the speed response of this technique is 22.62% faster as compared to the state-of-the-art finite-time adaptive terminal sliding mode control. Additionally, the asymptotic stability of the proposed system is validated using Lyapunov's theorem. Contact planning is crucial to the locomotion performance of robots: to properly self-propel forward, it is not only important to determine the sequence of internal shape changes (e.g., body bending and limb shoulder joint oscillation) but also the sequence by which contact is made and broken between the mechanism and its environment. Prior work observed that properly coupling contact patterns and shape changes allows for computationally tractable gait design and efficient gait performance. The state of the art, however, made assumptions, albeit motivated by biological observation, as to how contact and shape changes can be coupled. In this paper, we extend the geometric mechanics (GM) framework to design contact patterns. Specifically, we introduce the concept of "contact space" to the GM framework. By establishing the connection between velocities in shape and position spaces, we can estimate the benefits of each contact pattern change and therefore optimize the sequence of contact patterns. In doing so, we can also analyze how a contact pattern sequence will respond to perturbations. We apply our framework to sidewinding robots and enable (1) effective locomotion direction control and (2) robust locomotion performance as the spatial resolution decreases. We also apply our framework to a hexapod robot with two back-bending joints and show that we can simplify existing hexapod gaits by properly reducing the number of contact state switches (during a gait cycle) without significant loss of locomotion speed. Feedback linearization technique (FLT) linearizes the model of induction machine (IM). This actuator suffers from the variation of its inductances due to saturation and resistances due to joule and skin effects. Sliding-mode control (SMC) is widely recognized as a robust technique against parametric variations of IM. This control strategy has the advantage of being simple to implement and requires only a simple flux observer. This explains the use of FLT and SMC in this work to control an IM while taking into account the magnetic saturation and heating of the IM. Ideally, switching between subsystems and controllers occurs synchronously. In other words, whenever a subsystem requires switching, its corresponding sub-controller will be promptly activated. However, in reality, due to network delays, system detection, etc., the activation of candidate controllers frequently lags, which causes issues with asynchronous switching between controllers and subsystems. This asynchronous switching problem may affect system performance and even make the system unstable because the state between the subsystem and the controller may be inconsistent, resulting in the controller not being able to control the subsystem correctly. To keep the system stable while using asynchronous switching, this work suggests an asynchronous control technique for a class of discrete linear switching systems with time delay based on the mode-dependent average dwell time (MDADT). First, we construct a state feedback controller and establish a closed-loop system. In the asynchronous and synchronous intervals of subsystems and controllers, different Lyapunov functions are selected, and sufficient conditions for exponential stability and the H ∞ performance of the closed-loop system under asynchronous switching are obtained. In addition, using the MDADT switching strategy, the relevant parameters of each subsystem are designed and the corresponding state–feedback controller gain matrix can be obtained. Finally, a switching system with three subsystems is shown. A second-order-generalized-integrator (SOGI)-based frequency-locked-loop (FLL) equivalent proportional-resonant (PR) current controller is introduced in this paper to minimize torque ripple in switched reluctance motor (SRM) drive system. The typical cascaded closed-loop speed control of SRM comprises a speed controller giving desired torque, a static look-up table mapping the desired torque to desired/reference phase currents of SRM, and a current controller to track the reference phase currents. It is often seen that conventional current controllers like hysteresis controllers, proportional-integral (PI) controllers, and even intelligent controllers such as fuzzy logic controllers and model predictive direct torque controllers (MPDTC) are not very effective in minimizing the torque pulsations for a wide range of operating scenarios. The proposed SOGI-FLL-PR-based current control strategy is aimed at improving torque control under a wide range of operations of SRM. The performance of the proposed current controller has been compared to that of traditional current controllers like the hysteresis controller, the proportional-integral controller, the fuzzy logic current controller (FLCC), and MPDTC; and has shown to be superior in both simulation and experimental studies. The regulation and stabilization of a system's output to achieve desired performance and ensure system reliability require the use of different controllers, but selecting appropriate control parameters presents a challenge in ensuring robustness and stability. Proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers are popularly used due to their simplicity and effectiveness in addressing these challenges. In this paper, a simple, effective, and efficient, novel graphical technique is proposed to design PID and its variants (PI/PD) controllers, which addresses the challenges in selecting appropriate control parameters. The method involves creating three equispaced vectors for controller parameters (Kp,Ki,Kd)$(K_{\text{p}}, K_{\text{i}}, K_{\text{d}})$, and obtaining a 3D (2D in PI/PD) Cartesian grid of these vectors. All nodes in the grid provide several possible controllers, and integral time squared error (ITSE) is calculated for each controller from the closed‐loop step response of the system. The obtained ITSE is plotted in a 4D (PID) or 3D (PI/PD) graph, and controller parameters corresponding to the minimum value of ITSE are identified. Furthermore, the proposed graphical technique aids in choosing the lower and upper bounds (LB and UB) if the controller is designed using optimization techniques. The better selection of LB and UB reduces the search space resulting in lesser execution time and fewer iterations. To validate the proposed graphical technique, we designed various controllers for widely‐used brush‐less DC and switch reluctance motors in electric vehicles. Additionally, by choosing the LB and UB with the proposed technique, controllers are also designed using three optimization techniques: particle swarm optimization, black widow optimization algorithm, and honey badger algorithm. The obtained controllers using the graphical technique outperformed the optimization techniques in terms of time and frequency domain specifications, and the proposed selection of lower and upper bounds resulted in improved performance in terms of iterations and execution time. An intelligent servo drive system for a permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance motor (PMASynRM) that can adapt to the control requirements considering the motor's nonlinear and time-varying natures is developed in this study. A recurrent wavelet fuzzy neural network (RWFNN) with intelligent backstepping control is proposed to achieve this. In this study, first, a maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) controlled PMASynRM servo drive is introduced. A lookup table (LUT) is created, which is based on finite element analysis (FEA) results by using ANSYS Maxwell-2D dynamic model to determine the current angle command of the MTPA. Next, a backstepping control (BSC) system is created to accurately follow the desired position in the PMASynRM servo drive system while maintaining robust control characteristics. However, designing an efficient BSC for practical applications becomes challenging due to the lack of prior uncertainty information. To overcome this challenge, this study introduces an RWFNN as an approximation for the BSC, aiming to alleviate the limitations of the traditional BSC approach. An enhanced adaptive compensator is also incorporated into the RWFNN to handle potential approximation errors effectively. In addition, to ensure the stability of the RWFNN, the Lyapunov stability method is employed to develop online learning algorithms for the RWFNN and to guarantee its asymptotic stability. The proposed intelligent backstepping control with recurrent wavelet fuzzy neural network (IBSCRWFNN) demonstrates remarkable effectiveness and robustness in controlling the PMASynRM servo drive, as evidenced by the experimental results. Switched reluctance machines offer a robust structure, inexpensive maintenance, and a low‐cost drive. However, they can suffer from low mean torque, low torque density, and high noise. Techniques such as offering the stator poles at each phase in the shape of a C core, adding several teeth to the two poles of each C‐core, and embedding permanent magnets to overcome these deficiencies are presented. Permanent magnets are embedded into the structure to create a hybrid excitation that provides a higher torque density. The C‐core stator modules of the stator are toothed to improve the torque. The radial forces on the shaft are balanced. The design procedure, operating principles, and performance trade‐offs are explained. Also, a magnetic equivalent circuit model is introduced. The model provides continuous relationships over the operating regions and incorporates core saturation and accurate flux tubes to attain high precision. Finite element models are also employed in the analysis and design process. Fault diagnosis and condition monitoring of synchronous machines running under load is a key determinant of their lifespan and performance. Faults such as broken rotor bars, bent shafts and bearing issues lead to eccentricity faults. These faults if not monitored may lead to repair, replacement and unforeseen loss of income. Researchers who attempted to investigate this kind of machine stopped at characterizing and deduced ways, types and effects of rotor eccentricity fault on the machine inductances using the winding function method. A modified closed-form analytical model of an eccentric synchronus reluctance motor (SynRM) is developed here taking into cognizance the machine dimensions and winding distribution for the cases of a healthy and unhealthy SynRM. This paper reports the study the SynRM under static rotor eccentricity using the developed analytical model and firming up the model with finite element method (FEM) solutions. These methods are beneficial as they investigated and presented the influence of the degrees of static eccentricity on the machine performance indicators such as speed, torque and the stator current and assess the extent to which the machine performance will deteriorate when running with and without load.
