We report an infrared spectroscopy study of the antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulator EuZn$_2$As$_2$ over a broad frequency range, spanning temperatures both above and below the AFM transition $T_{\rm N} \simeq$ 20 K. The optical response reveals an insulating behavior, featuring two prominent infrared-active phonon modes at around 95 and 190 cm$^{-1}$, and two subtle absorption peaks at around 130 ($\alpha$ peak) and 2700 cm$^{-1}$ ($\beta$ peak), along with a strong absorption edge rising around 9000 cm$^{-1}$ ($\gamma$ peak). Significantly, the temperature-dependent changes in these peaks show noticeable anomalies across the AFM transition, particularly the emergence of the $\alpha$ peak and an unusual redshift of the $\gamma$ peak, suggesting a strong interaction between the charge excitations and the AFM order. Band structure calculations reveal that these anomalies arise from magnetization-induced band renormalizations, including shifts and foldings. Additionally, both phonon modes feature asymmetric Fano line shapes at low temperatures, with the 95 cm$^{-1}$ phonon mode exhibiting strong coupling to the fluctuations of Eu spins. The low-energy $J/\psi N$ scattering is important for various reasons: it is related to the hidden-charm $P_c$ pentaquark states, provides insights into the role of gluons in nucleon structures, and is relevant to the $J/\psi$ properties in nuclear medium. The scattering can happen through two distinct mechanisms: the coupled-channel mechanism via open-charm meson-baryon intermediate states, and the soft-gluon exchange mechanism. We investigate the $J/\psi N$ $S$-wave scattering length through both mechanisms, and find that the soft-gluon exchange mechanism leads to a scattering length at least one order of magnitude larger than that from the coupled-channel mechanism and thus is the predominant one. The findings can be verified by lattice calculations and will enhance our understanding of the scattering processes breaking the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka rule.

Continual learning (CL) learns a sequence of tasks incrementally. This paper studies the challenging CL setting of class-incremental learning (CIL). CIL has two key challenges: catastrophic forgetting (CF) and inter-task class separation (ICS). Despite numerous proposed methods, these issues remain persistent obstacles. This paper proposes a novel CIL method, called Kernel Linear Discriminant Analysis (KLDA), that can effectively avoid CF and ICS problems. It leverages only the powerful features learned in a foundation model (FM). However, directly using these features proves suboptimal. To address this, KLDA incorporates the Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel and its Random Fourier Features (RFF) to enhance the feature representations from the FM, leading to improved performance. When a new task arrives, KLDA computes only the mean for each class in the task and updates a shared covariance matrix for all learned classes based on the kernelized features. Classification is performed using Linear Discriminant Analysis. Our empirical evaluation using text and image classification datasets demonstrates that KLDA significantly outperforms baselines. Remarkably, without relying on replay data, KLDA achieves accuracy comparable to joint training of all classes, which is considered the upper bound for CIL performance. Large language models (LLMs) have demonstrated impressive instruction following capabilities, while still struggling to accurately manage the length of the generated text, which is a fundamental requirement in many real-world applications. Existing length control methods involve fine-tuning the parameters of LLMs, which is inefficient and suboptimal for practical use. In this paper, we propose a novel iterative sampling framework for text length control, integrating the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm with an importance sampling acceleration strategy. This framework efficiently and reliably regulates LLMs to generate length-constrained text without modifying the underlying parameters, thereby preserving the original capabilities of LLMs. Experimental results demonstrate that our framework achieves almost 100\% success rates of length control on Llama3.1 for tasks such as length-controlled abstractive summarization and length-constrained instruction following, with minimal additional computational overhead. Recent advancements in proactive dialogues have garnered significant attention, particularly for more complex objectives (e.g. emotion support and persuasion). Unlike traditional task-oriented dialogues, proactive dialogues demand advanced policy planning and adaptability, requiring rich scenarios and comprehensive policy repositories to develop such systems. However, existing approaches tend to rely on Large Language Models (LLMs) for user simulation and online learning, leading to biases that diverge from realistic scenarios and result in suboptimal efficiency. Moreover, these methods depend on manually defined, context-independent, coarse-grained policies, which not only incur high expert costs but also raise concerns regarding their completeness. In our work, we highlight the potential for automatically discovering policies directly from raw, real-world dialogue records. To this end, we introduce a novel dialogue policy planning framework, LDPP. It fully automates the process from mining policies in dialogue records to learning policy planning. Specifically, we employ a variant of the Variational Autoencoder to discover fine-grained policies represented as latent vectors. After automatically annotating the data with these latent policy labels, we propose an Offline Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithm in the latent space to develop effective policy planning capabilities. Existing continual learning (CL) methods mainly rely on fine-tuning or adapting large language models (LLMs). They still suffer from catastrophic forgetting (CF). Little work has been done to exploit in-context learning (ICL) to leverage the extensive knowledge within LLMs for CL without updating any parameters. However, incrementally learning each new task in ICL necessitates adding training examples from each class of the task to the prompt, which hampers scalability as the prompt length increases. This issue not only leads to excessively long prompts that exceed the input token limit of the underlying LLM but also degrades the model's performance due to the overextended context. To address this, we introduce InCA, a novel approach that integrates an external continual learner (ECL) with ICL to enable scalable CL without CF. The ECL is built incrementally to pre-select a small subset of likely classes for each test instance. By restricting the ICL prompt to only these selected classes, InCA prevents prompt lengths from becoming excessively long, while maintaining high performance. Experimental results demonstrate that InCA significantly outperforms existing CL baselines, achieving substantial performance gains.

We introduce CLOB, a novel continual learning (CL) paradigm wherein a large language model (LLM) is regarded as a black box. Learning is done incrementally via only verbal prompting. CLOB does not fine-tune any part of the LLM or add any trainable parameters to it. It is particularly suitable for LLMs that are accessible via APIs. We also propose a new CL technique, called CIS, based on incremental summarization that also overcomes the LLM's input length limit. Large language models (LLMs) are susceptible to generating hallucinated information, despite the integration of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG). Parallel context extension (PCE) is a line of research attempting to effectively integrating parallel (unordered) contexts, while it still suffers from hallucinations when adapted to RAG scenarios. In this paper, we propose DePaC (Dehallucinating Parallel Context Extension), which alleviates the hallucination problem with context-aware negative training and information-calibrated aggregation. DePaC is designed to alleviate two types of in-context hallucination: fact fabrication (i.e., LLMs present claims that are not supported by the contexts) and fact omission (i.e., LLMs fail to present claims that can be supported by the contexts). Specifically, (1) for fact fabrication, we apply the context-aware negative training that fine-tunes the LLMs with negative supervisions, thus explicitly guiding the LLMs to refuse to answer when contexts are not related to questions; (2) for fact omission, we propose the information-calibrated aggregation which prioritizes context windows with higher information increment from their contexts. The experimental results on nine RAG tasks demonstrate that DePaC significantly alleviates the two types of hallucination and consistently achieves better performances on these tasks.

Let $S$ be a $*$-monoid and let $a,b,c$ be elements of $S$. We say that $a$ is $(b,c)$-core-EP invertible if there exist some $x$ in $S$ and some nonnegative integer $k$ such that $cax(ca)^{k}c=(ca)^{k}c$, $x{\mathcal R}(ca)^{k}b$ and $x{\mathcal L}((ca)^{k}c)^{*}$. This terminology can be seen as an extension of the $w$-core-EP inverse and the $(b,c)$-core inverse. It is explored when $(b,c)$-core-EP invertibility implies $w$-core-EP invertibility. Another accomplishment of our work is to establish the criteria for the $(b,c)$-core-EP inverse of $a$ and to clarify the relations between the $(b,c)$-inverse, the core inverse, the core-EP inverse, the $w$-core inverse, the $(b,c)$-core inverse and the $(b,c)$-core-EP inverse. As an application, we improve a result in the literature focused on $(b,c)$-core inverses. We then establish the criterion for the $(B,C)$-core-EP inverse of $A$ in complex matrices, and give the solution to the system of matrix equations.

In federated learning, federated unlearning is a technique that provides clients with a rollback mechanism that allows them to withdraw their data contribution without training from scratch. However, existing research has not considered scenarios with skewed label distributions. Unfortunately, the unlearning of a client with skewed data usually results in biased models and makes it difficult to deliver high-quality service, complicating the recovery process. This paper proposes a recovery method of federated unlearning with skewed label distributions. Specifically, we first adopt a strategy that incorporates oversampling with deep learning to supplement the skewed class data for clients to perform recovery training, therefore enhancing the completeness of their local datasets. Afterward, a density-based denoising method is applied to remove noise from the generated data, further improving the quality of the remaining clients' datasets. Finally, all the remaining clients leverage the enhanced local datasets and engage in iterative training to effectively restore the performance of the unlearning model. Extensive evaluations on commonly used federated learning datasets with varying degrees of skewness show that our method outperforms baseline methods in restoring the performance of the unlearning model, particularly regarding accuracy on the skewed class.

We derive helicity amplitudes for the fully charmed tetraquark states decays into vector meson pair under two types of models, where the one is from quark model and the other one is from heavy quark effective theory. The angular distributions have been given by the cascade decays $T_{4c}\to J/\psi(D_{(s)}^*)+J/\psi(\bar{D}_{(s)}^*)$ along with $J/\psi\to \mu^++\mu^-$ or $D_{(s)}^*\to D_{(s)}+\pi$, showing that spin-0 and spin-2 states can be distinguished. If we assume quantum entanglement as a fundamental principle, there is a strict constraint formula for helicity amplitudes. These findings will assist in experimentally differentiating various spin-parity states, determining decay widths and hunting for unobserved structures, thereby shedding light on the internal properties of double $J/\psi$ exotic states., Comment: 15 pages, 10 figures, and 3 tables. We report the discovery of an ultra-massive grand-design red spiral galaxy, named Zh\'ul\'ong (Torch Dragon), at $z_{\rm phot} = 5.2^{+0.3}_{-0.2}$ in the JWST PANORAMIC survey, identified as the most distant bulge+disk galaxy with spiral arms known to date. Zh\'ul\'ong displays an extraordinary combination of properties: 1) a classical bulge centered in a large, face-on exponential stellar disk (half-light radius of $R_{\rm e} = 3.7 \pm 0.1 \, \mathrm{kpc}$), with spiral arms extending across 19 kpc; 2) a clear transition from the red, quiescent core ($F150W-F444W=3.1$ mag) with high stellar mass surface density ($\log(\Sigma M_{\star}/M_{\odot} \, \mathrm{kpc}^{-2}) = 9.91_{-0.09}^{+0.11}$) to the star-forming outer regions, as revealed by spatially resolved SED analysis, which indicates significant inside-out galaxy growth; 3) an extremely high stellar mass at its redshift, with $\log (M_{\star}/M_{\odot})=11.03_{-0.08}^{+0.10}$ comparable to the Milky Way, and an implied baryon-to-star conversion efficiency ($\epsilon \sim 0.3$) that is 1.5 times higher than even the most efficient galaxies at later epochs; 4) despite an active disk, a relatively modest overall star formation rate ($\mathrm{SFR} =66_{-46}^{+89} ~M_{\odot} \, \mathrm{yr}^{-1}$), which is $>$0.5 dex below the star formation main sequence at $z \sim 5.2$ and $>$10 times lower than ultra-massive dusty galaxies at $z=5-6$. Altogether, Zh\'ul\'ong shows that mature galaxies emerged much earlier than expected in the first billion years after the Big Bang through rapid galaxy formation and morphological evolution. Linkage between core-collapse supernovae (SNe) and their progenitors is not fully understood and ongoing effort of searching and identifying the progenitors is needed. $\mathrm{SN\,2024abfl}$ is a recent Type II supernova exploded in the nearby star-bursting galaxy $\mathrm{NGC\,2146}$, which is also the host galaxy of $\mathrm{SN\,2018zd}$. From archival Hubble Space Telescope (HST) data, we have found a red source ($\mathrm{m_{F814W} \sim 25}$) near the location (angular distance $\leq 0.2"$) of $\mathrm{SN\,2024abfl}$ before its explosion. With F814W and F606W photometry, we found that the properties of this source matched a typical red supergiant (RSG) moderately reddened by interstellar dust at the distance of the host galaxy. We conclude that the $\mathrm{SN\,2024abfl}$ had an RSG progenitor with initial mass of $\mathrm{10M_{\odot}}$--$\mathrm{16\,M_{\odot}}$., Comment: 11 pages, 6 figures, in review (submitted on Dec 9th, 2024)

Current large language models (LLMs) often exhibit imbalances in multilingual capabilities and cultural adaptability, largely due to their English-centric pretraining data. To address this imbalance, we propose a probing method named XTransplant that explores cross-lingual latent interactions via cross-lingual feed-forward transplantation during inference stage, with the hope of enabling the model to leverage the strengths of both English and non-English languages. Through extensive pilot experiments, we empirically prove that both the multilingual capabilities and cultural adaptability of LLMs hold the potential to be significantly improved by XTransplant, respectively from En -> non-En and non-En -> En, highlighting the underutilization of current LLMs' multilingual potential. And the patterns observed in these pilot experiments further motivate an offline scaling inference strategy, which demonstrates consistent performance improvements in multilingual and culture-aware tasks, sometimes even surpassing multilingual supervised fine-tuning. And we do hope our further analysis and discussion could help gain deeper insights into XTransplant mechanism.

Semi-supervised medical image segmentation (SSMIS) uses consistency learning to regularize model training, which alleviates the burden of pixel-wise manual annotations. However, it often suffers from error supervision from low-quality pseudo labels. Vision-Language Model (VLM) has great potential to enhance pseudo labels by introducing text prompt guided multimodal supervision information. It nevertheless faces the cross-modal problem: the obtained messages tend to correspond to multiple targets. To address aforementioned problems, we propose a Dual Semantic Similarity-Supervised VLM (DuSSS) for SSMIS. Specifically, 1) a Dual Contrastive Learning (DCL) is designed to improve cross-modal semantic consistency by capturing intrinsic representations within each modality and semantic correlations across modalities. 2) To encourage the learning of multiple semantic correspondences, a Semantic Similarity-Supervision strategy (SSS) is proposed and injected into each contrastive learning process in DCL, supervising semantic similarity via the distribution-based uncertainty levels. Furthermore, a novel VLM-based SSMIS network is designed to compensate for the quality deficiencies of pseudo-labels. It utilizes the pretrained VLM to generate text prompt guided supervision information, refining the pseudo label for better consistency regularization. Experimental results demonstrate that our DuSSS achieves outstanding performance with Dice of 82.52%, 74.61% and 78.03% on three public datasets (QaTa-COV19, BM-Seg and MoNuSeg).

Many supervised machine learning methods have revolutionised the empirical modelling of complex systems. These empirical models, however, are usually "black boxes" and provide only limited physical explanations about the underlying systems. Instead, so-called "knowledge discovery" methods can be used to explore the governing equations that describe observed phenomena. This paper focuses on how we can use such methods to explore underlying physics and also model a commonly observed yet not fully understood phenomenon - the breaking of ocean waves. In our work, we use symbolic regression to explore the equation that describes wave-breaking evolution from a dataset of in silico waves generated using expensive numerical methods. Our work discovers a new boundary equation that provides a reduced-order description of how the surface elevation (i.e., the water-air interface) evolves forward in time, including the instances when the wave breaks - a problem that has defied traditional approaches. Compared to the existing empirical models, the unique equation-based nature of our model allows further mathematical interpretation, which provides an opportunity to explore the fundamentals of breaking waves. Further expert-AI collaborative research reveals the physical meaning of each term of the discovered equation, which suggests a new characteristic of breaking waves in deep water - a decoupling between the water-air interface and the fluid velocities. From the Specific-MLLM, which excels in single-modal tasks, to the Omni-MLLM, which extends the range of general modalities, this evolution aims to achieve understanding and generation of multimodal information. Omni-MLLM treats the features of different modalities as different "foreign languages," enabling cross-modal interaction and understanding within a unified space. To promote the advancement of related research, we have compiled 47 relevant papers to provide the community with a comprehensive introduction to Omni-MLLM. We first explain the four core components of Omni-MLLM for unified modeling and interaction of multiple modalities. Next, we introduce the effective integration achieved through "alignment pretraining" and "instruction fine-tuning," and discuss open-source datasets and testing of interaction capabilities. Finally, we summarize the main challenges facing current Omni-MLLM and outline future directions., Comment: 13 pages

Virtual staining leverages computer-aided techniques to transfer the style of histochemically stained tissue samples to other staining types. In virtual staining of pathological images, maintaining strict structural consistency is crucial, as these images emphasize structural integrity more than natural images. Even slight structural alterations can lead to deviations in diagnostic semantic information. Furthermore, the unpaired characteristic of virtual staining data may compromise the preservation of pathological diagnostic content. To address these challenges, we propose a dual-path inversion virtual staining method using prompt learning, which optimizes visual prompts to control content and style, while preserving complete pathological diagnostic content. Our proposed inversion technique comprises two key components: (1) Dual Path Prompted Strategy, we utilize a feature adapter function to generate reference images for inversion, providing style templates for input image inversion, called Style Target Path. We utilize the inversion of the input image as the Structural Target path, employing visual prompt images to maintain structural consistency in this path while preserving style information from the style Target path. During the deterministic sampling process, we achieve complete content-style disentanglement through a plug-and-play embedding visual prompt approach. (2) StainPrompt Optimization, where we only optimize the null visual prompt as ``operator'' for dual path inversion, rather than fine-tune pre-trained model. We optimize null visual prompt for structual and style trajectory around pivotal noise on each timestep, ensuring accurate dual-path inversion reconstruction. Extensive evaluations on publicly available multi-domain unpaired staining datasets demonstrate high structural consistency and accurate style transfer results.

Although large language models (LLMs) achieve effective safety alignment at the time of release, they still face various safety challenges. A key issue is that fine-tuning often compromises the safety alignment of LLMs. To address this issue, we propose a method named \textbf{IRR} (\textbf{I}dentify, \textbf{R}emove, and \textbf{R}ecalibrate for Safety Realignment) that performs safety realignment for LLMs. The core of IRR is to identify and remove unsafe delta parameters from the fine-tuned models, while recalibrating the retained ones. We evaluate the effectiveness of IRR across various datasets, including both full fine-tuning and LoRA methods. Our results demonstrate that IRR significantly enhances the safety performance of fine-tuned models on safety benchmarks, such as harmful queries and jailbreak attacks, while maintaining their performance on downstream tasks. Class imbalance would lead to biased classifiers that favor the majority class and disadvantage the minority class. Unfortunately, from a practical perspective, the minority class is of importance in many real-life applications. Hybrid sampling methods address this by oversampling the minority class to increase the number of its instances, followed by undersampling to remove low-quality instances. However, most existing sampling methods face difficulties in generating diverse high-quality instances and often fail to remove noise or low-quality instances on a larger scale effectively. This paper therefore proposes an evolutionary multi-granularity hybrid sampling method, called EvoSampling. During the oversampling process, genetic programming (GP) is used with multi-task learning to effectively and efficiently generate diverse high-quality instances. During the undersampling process, we develop a granular ball-based undersampling method that removes noise in a multi-granular fashion, thereby enhancing data quality. Experiments on 20 imbalanced datasets demonstrate that EvoSampling effectively enhances the performance of various classification algorithms by providing better datasets than existing sampling methods. Besides, ablation studies further indicate that allowing knowledge transfer accelerates the GP's evolutionary learning process.

The discovery of unconventional superconductivity around 80 K in perovskite nickelates under high pressure has furnished a new platform to explore high-temperature unconventional superconductivity in addition to cuprates. Understanding the normal state of nickelate superconductors is crucial to uncovering the origin of this unconventional superconductivity and gaining further insight into its underlying mechanism. In this study, we systemically studied the transport properties of La3Ni2O7 by tuning the pressure under high magnetic fields. Magnetoresistance (MR) consistently exhibits a quasi-quadratic dependence on the magnetic field across all measured pressures and temperatures. Increased pressure enhances the metallicity of the system and leads to a monotonic increase in MR, which follows the extended Kohler's rule. These results suggest that the normal state of La3Ni2O7 to be a multiband metallic nature.

In the latest developments within the field of quantum information science, Bargmann invariants have emerged as fundamental quantities, uniquely characterizing tuples of quantum states while remaining invariant under unitary transformations. However, determining the boundaries of quantum-realizable values for Bargmann invariants of arbitrary order remains a significant theoretical challenge. In this work, we completely solve this problem by deriving a unified boundary formulation for these values. Through rigorous mathematical analysis and numerical simulations, we explore the constraints imposed by quantum mechanics to delineate the achievable ranges of these invariants. We demonstrate that the boundaries depend on the specific properties of quantum states and the order of the Bargmann invariants, illustrated by a family of single-parameter qubit pure states. Our findings uncover intricate connections between Bargmann invariants and quantum imaginarity, offering a unified perspective on the associated boundary curves. These results enhance our understanding of the physical limits within quantum mechanics and may lead to novel applications of Bargmann invariants in quantum information processing., Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures

The physics of glass has been a significant topic of interest for decades. Dynamical facilitation is widely believed to be an important characteristic of glassy dynamics, but the precise mechanism is still under debate. We propose a lattice model of glass called the facilitated random walk (FRW). Each particle performs continuous time random walk in the presence of its own random local kinetic constraints. The particles do not interact energetically. Instead, they interact kinetically with a hopping rate resampling rule under which motions of a particle can randomly perturb the local kinetic constraints of other particles. This dynamic interaction is reversible, following a rate restoration rule. A step-by-step reversal of the particle motions exactly restore the previous constraints, modeling randomness quenched in the configuration space of glass. The model exhibits stretched exponential relaxation and dynamical heterogeneity typical of glasses. Despite the lack of explicit facilitation rule, the FRW shows facilitation behaviors closely analogous to those of the kinetically constrained models (KCM). The FRW is a coarse-grained version of the distinguishable particle lattice model (DPLM) and this exemplifies that compatible defect and atomistic models can complement each other on the study of glass.

We introduce a unified, flexible, and easy-to-implement framework of sufficient dimension reduction that can accommodate both linear and nonlinear dimension reduction, and both the conditional distribution and the conditional mean as the targets of estimation. This unified framework is achieved by a specially structured neural network -- the Belted and Ensembled Neural Network (BENN) -- that consists of a narrow latent layer, which we call the belt, and a family of transformations of the response, which we call the ensemble. By strategically placing the belt at different layers of the neural network, we can achieve linear or nonlinear sufficient dimension reduction, and by choosing the appropriate transformation families, we can achieve dimension reduction for the conditional distribution or the conditional mean. Moreover, thanks to the advantage of the neural network, the method is very fast to compute, overcoming a computation bottleneck of the traditional sufficient dimension reduction estimators, which involves the inversion of a matrix of dimension either p or n. Machine learning can uncover physical concepts or physical equations when prior knowledge from another one is available. However, in many cases, these two aspects are coupled and cannot be discovered independently. We extend SciNet, which is a neural network architecture that simulates the human physical reasoning process for physics discovery, by proposing a model that combines Variational Autoencoders (VAEs) with Neural Ordinary Differential Equations (Neural ODEs). This allows us to simultaneously discover physical concepts and governing equations from simulated experimental data across diverse physical systems. We apply the model to several key examples inspired by the history of physics, including Copernicus' heliocentric solar system, Newton's law of universal gravitation, the wave function together with the Schr\"odinger equation, and spin-1/2 along with the Pauli equation. The results demonstrate that the neural network successfully reconstructs the corresponding theories.

The origin of PeV cosmic rays is a long-standing mystery, and ultrahigh-energy gamma-ray observations would play a crucial role in identifying it. Recently, LHAASO reported the discovery of ``dark'' gamma-ray sources that were detected above 100 TeV without any GeV--TeV gamma-ray counterparts. The origins of these dark gamma-ray sources are unknown. We propose isolated black holes (IBHs) wandering in molecular clouds as the origins of PeV cosmic rays and LHAASO dark sources. An IBH accretes surrounding dense gas, which forms a magnetically arrested disk (MAD) around the IBH. Magnetic reconnection in the MAD can accelerate cosmic-ray protons up to PeV energies. Cosmic-ray protons of GeV-TeV energies fall to the IBH, whereas cosmic-ray protons at sub-PeV energies can escape from the MAD, providing PeV CRs into the interstellar medium. The sub-PeV cosmic-ray protons interact with the surrounding molecular clouds, producing TeV-PeV gamma rays without emitting GeV-TeV gamma rays. This scenario can explain the dark sources detected by LHAASO. Taking into account the IBH and molecular cloud distributions in our Galaxy, we demonstrate that IBHs can provide a significant contribution to the PeV cosmic rays observed on Earth. In the quantitative theory of quantum coherence, the amount of coherence for given states can be meaningfully discussed only when referring to a preferred basis. One of the objections to this quantification is that the amount of coherence is an intrinsically basis-dependent quantity. This limitation can, however, be lifted when considering a set of quantum states invariant under arbitrary unitary transformations. Thus, we analyze a basis-independent definition of quantum coherence, and the incoherent state is taken as the maximally mixed state. We describe the relationship between the basis-independent and the basis-dependent approaches and give several applications to show the advantages of the former method. The relations among basis-independent coherence, quantum entanglement, and quantum discord are discussed by using the relative entropy within a multipartite system.

We demonstrate that the spatially homogeneous Landau-Coulomb equation exhibits global existence and uniqueness around the space $H^{-\f12}_3\cap L^1_{7}\cap L\log L$. Additionally, we furnish several quantitative assessments regarding the smoothing estimates in weighted Sobolev spaces for various initial data configurations. Exploratory data analysis (EDA), coupled with SQL, is essential for data analysts involved in data exploration and analysis. However, data analysts often encounter two primary challenges: (1) the need to craft SQL queries skillfully, and (2) the requirement to generate suitable visualization types that enhance the interpretation of query results. Due to its significance, substantial research efforts have been made to explore different approaches to address these challenges, including leveraging large language models (LLMs). However, existing methods fail to meet real-world data exploration requirements primarily due to (1) complex database schema; (2) unclear user intent; (3) limited cross-domain generalization capability; and (4) insufficient end-to-end text-to-visualization capability. This paper presents TiInsight, an automated SQL-based cross-domain exploratory data analysis system. First, we propose hierarchical data context (i.e., HDC), which leverages LLMs to summarize the contexts related to the database schema, which is crucial for open-world EDA systems to generalize across data domains. Second, the EDA system is divided into four components (i.e., stages): HDC generation, question clarification and decomposition, text-to-SQL generation (i.e., TiSQL), and data visualization (i.e., TiChart). Finally, we implemented an end-to-end EDA system with a user-friendly GUI interface in the production environment at PingCAP. We have also open-sourced all APIs of TiInsight to facilitate research within the EDA community. Through extensive evaluations by a real-world user study, we demonstrate that TiInsight offers remarkable performance compared to human experts. Specifically, TiSQL achieves an execution accuracy of 86.3% on the Spider dataset using GPT-4. It also demonstrates state-of-the-art performance on the Bird dataset., Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures. Terahertz (THz) technology is critical for quantum material physics, biomedical imaging, ultrafast electronics, and next-generation wireless communications. However, standing in the way of widespread applications is the scarcity of efficient ultrafast THz sources with on-demand fast modulation and easy on-chip integration capability. Here we report the discovery of colossal THz emission from a van der Waals (vdW) ferroelectric semiconductor NbOI$_2$. Using THz emission spectroscopy, we observe a THz generation efficiency an order of magnitude higher than that of ZnTe, a standard nonlinear crystal for ultrafast THz generation. We further uncover the underlying generation mechanisms associated with its large ferroelectric polarization by studying the THz emission dependence on excitation wavelength, incident polarization and fluence. Moreover, we demonstrate the ultrafast coherent amplification and annihilation of the THz emission and associated coherent phonon oscillations by employing a double-pump scheme. These findings combined with first-principles calculations, inform new understanding of the THz light-matter interaction in emergent vdW ferroelectrics and pave the way to develop high-performance THz devices on them for quantum materials sensing and ultrafast electronics.

There has been extensive research on community detection in directed and bipartite networks. However, these studies often fail to consider the popularity of nodes in different communities, which is a common phenomenon in real-world networks. To address this issue, we propose a new probabilistic framework called the Two-Way Node Popularity Model (TNPM). The TNPM also accommodates edges from different distributions within a general sub-Gaussian family. We introduce the Delete-One-Method (DOM) for model fitting and community structure identification, and provide a comprehensive theoretical analysis with novel technical skills dealing with sub-Gaussian generalization. Additionally, we propose the Two-Stage Divided Cosine Algorithm (TSDC) to handle large-scale networks more efficiently. Our proposed methods offer multi-folded advantages in terms of estimation accuracy and computational efficiency, as demonstrated through extensive numerical studies. We apply our methods to two real-world applications, uncovering interesting findings.

A family of V-based kagome metals AV$_3$Sb$_5$ (A = Cs, Rb, K) presents an intriguing platform for exploring the interplay of time-reversal symmetry breaking, nontrivial topological bands, and electron correlations, resulting in a range of exotic quantum states, including the anomalous Hall effect, unconventional charge density waves, and superconductivity. These features prompt critical questions regarding the roles of magnetism and spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in these systems. Our density functional theory (DFT) calculations demonstrate a notable sensitivity of the magnetic properties to the choice of $k$-point mesh used in Brillouin zone integrations. Specifically, we find that using a dense $k$-point mesh yields a nonmagnetic pristine phase characterized by paramagnetic susceptibility, consistent with the recently observed Pauli paramagnetic behavior in single crystalline samples at high temperatures. In contrast, a coarser $k$-point mesh significantly increases the density of states at the Fermi level, inducing a ferromagnetic instability that satisfies the Stoner criterion. Moreover, our results show that the effect of SOC on both the geometric and electronic structures is minimal, with only a slight gap opening at the Dirac points, indicating a weak SOC influence in these materials. Importantly, our DFT band structure calculations closely align with angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy data, reinforcing the notion of weak electron correlations in these kagome metals. This refined understanding challenges recent theoretical assertions that the interplay of magnetism, SOC, and electron correlations is essential for determining the nature of charge density waves in AV$_3$Sb$_5$.

Chiral edge state is a hallmark of topological physics, which has drawn significant attention across quantum mechanics, condensed matter and optical systems. Recently, synthetic dimensions have emerged as ideal platforms for investigating chiral edge states in multiple dimensions, overcoming the limitations of real space. In this work, we demonstrate reconfigurable chiral edge states via synthetic dimensions on an integrated photonic chip. These states are realized by coupling two frequency lattices with opposite pseudospins, which are subjected to programmable artificial gauge potential and long-range coupling within a thin-film lithium niobate microring resonator. Within this system, we are able to implement versatile strategies to observe and steer the chiral edge states, including the realization and frustration of the chiral edge states in a synthetic Hall ladder, the generation of imbalanced chiral edge currents, and the regulation of chiral behaviors as chirality, single-pseudospin enhancement, and complete suppression. This work provides a reconfigurable integrated photonic platform for simulating and steering chiral edge states in synthetic space, paying the way for the realization of high-dimensional and programmable topological photonic systems on chip.

Large pretrained diffusion models have demonstrated impressive generation capabilities and have been adapted to various downstream tasks. However, unlike Large Language Models (LLMs) that can learn multiple tasks in a single model based on instructed data, diffusion models always require additional branches, task-specific training strategies, and losses for effective adaptation to different downstream tasks. This task-specific fine-tuning approach brings two drawbacks. 1) The task-specific additional networks create gaps between pretraining and fine-tuning which hinders the transfer of pretrained knowledge. 2) It necessitates careful additional network design, raising the barrier to learning and implementation, and making it less user-friendly. Thus, a question arises: Can we achieve a simple, efficient, and general approach to fine-tune diffusion models? To this end, we propose ONE-PIC. It enhances the inherited generative ability in the pretrained diffusion models without introducing additional modules. Specifically, we propose In-Visual-Context Tuning, which constructs task-specific training data by arranging source images and target images into a single image. This approach makes downstream fine-tuning closer to the pertaining, allowing our model to adapt more quickly to various downstream tasks. Moreover, we propose a Masking Strategy to unify different generative tasks. This strategy transforms various downstream fine-tuning tasks into predictions of the masked portions. The extensive experimental results demonstrate that our method is simple and efficient which streamlines the adaptation process and achieves excellent performance with lower costs. Robots can acquire complex manipulation skills by learning policies from expert demonstrations, which is often known as vision-based imitation learning. Generating policies based on diffusion and flow matching models has been shown to be effective, particularly in robotic manipulation tasks. However, recursion-based approaches are inference inefficient in working from noise distributions to policy distributions, posing a challenging trade-off between efficiency and quality. This motivates us to propose FlowPolicy, a novel framework for fast policy generation based on consistency flow matching and 3D vision. Our approach refines the flow dynamics by normalizing the self-consistency of the velocity field, enabling the model to derive task execution policies in a single inference step. Specifically, FlowPolicy conditions on the observed 3D point cloud, where consistency flow matching directly defines straight-line flows from different time states to the same action space, while simultaneously constraining their velocity values, that is, we approximate the trajectories from noise to robot actions by normalizing the self-consistency of the velocity field within the action space, thus improving the inference efficiency. We validate the effectiveness of FlowPolicy in Adroit and Metaworld, demonstrating a 7$\times$ increase in inference speed while maintaining competitive average success rates compared to state-of-the-art methods. Recently, many studies have been conducted to enhance the zero-shot generalization ability of vision-language models (e.g., CLIP) by addressing the semantic misalignment between image and text embeddings in downstream tasks. Although many efforts have been made, existing methods barely consider the fact that a class of images can be described by notably different textual concepts due to well-known lexical variation in natural language processing, which heavily affects the zero-shot generalization of CLIP. Therefore, this paper proposes a \textbf{S}ynonymous \textbf{S}emantic \textbf{S}pace ($S^3$) for each image class, rather than relying on a single textual concept, achieving more stable semantic alignment and improving the zero-shot generalization of CLIP. Specifically, our $S^3$ method first generates several synonymous concepts based on the label of each class by using large language models, and constructs a continuous yet compact synonymous semantic space based on the Vietoris-Rips complex of the generated synonymous concepts. Furthermore, we explore the effect of several point-to-space metrics on our $S^3$, while presenting a point-to-local-center metric to compute similarity between image embeddings and the synonymous semantic space of each class, accomplishing effective zero-shot predictions. Extensive experiments are conducted across 17 benchmarks, including fine-grained zero-shot classification, natural distribution zero-shot classification, and open-vocabulary segmentation, and the results show that our $S^3$ outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

The generation of gigawatt-class isolated attosecond pulses (IAPs) is vital for attosecond pump-probe experiments. In such experiments, the temporal duration of IAPs must be determined quickly and accurately. In this study, we developed a perturbed three-channel waveform synthesizer for efficient IAPs generation and characterization at low repetition rates ( 10 Hz). Intense IAPs centered at photon energies of 60 eV (227 as duration) in Ar and 107 eV (128 as duration) in Ne were generated by the driving field from a three-channel waveform synthesizer and characterized using all-optical frequencyresolved optical gating (AO-FROG), which accelerated the measurement time to several minutes, providing fast feedback for the tunability of the IAP source. Cross-scene image classification aims to transfer prior knowledge of ground materials to annotate regions with different distributions and reduce hand-crafted cost in the field of remote sensing. However, existing approaches focus on single-source domain generalization to unseen target domains, and are easily confused by large real-world domain shifts due to the limited training information and insufficient diversity modeling capacity. To address this gap, we propose a novel multi-source collaborative domain generalization framework (MS-CDG) based on homogeneity and heterogeneity characteristics of multi-source remote sensing data, which considers data-aware adversarial augmentation and model-aware multi-level diversification simultaneously to enhance cross-scene generalization performance. The data-aware adversarial augmentation adopts an adversary neural network with semantic guide to generate MS samples by adaptively learning realistic channel and distribution changes across domains. In views of cross-domain and intra-domain modeling, the model-aware diversification transforms the shared spatial-channel features of MS data into the class-wise prototype and kernel mixture module, to address domain discrepancies and cluster different classes effectively. Finally, the joint classification of original and augmented MS samples is employed by introducing a distribution consistency alignment to increase model diversity and ensure better domain-invariant representation learning. Extensive experiments on three public MS remote sensing datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method when benchmarked with the state-of-the-art methods.

Deep learning (DL) has been widely applied into hyperspectral image (HSI) classification owing to its promising feature learning and representation capabilities. However, limited by the spatial resolution of sensors, existing DL-based classification approaches mainly focus on pixel-level spectral and spatial information extraction through complex network architecture design, while ignoring the existence of mixed pixels in actual scenarios. To tackle this difficulty, we propose a novel dual-branch subpixel-guided network for HSI classification, called DSNet, which automatically integrates subpixel information and convolutional class features by introducing a deep autoencoder unmixing architecture to enhance classification performance. DSNet is capable of fully considering physically nonlinear properties within subpixels and adaptively generating diagnostic abundances in an unsupervised manner to achieve more reliable decision boundaries for class label distributions. The subpixel fusion module is designed to ensure high-quality information fusion across pixel and subpixel features, further promoting stable joint classification. Experimental results on three benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of DSNet compared with state-of-the-art DL-based HSI classification approaches. We explore various $\Lambda_c$ states, including $\Lambda_c$, $\Lambda_c(2595)$, $\Lambda_c(2940)$, and the predicted $(\bar{D}N)$ hadronic molecular states, in photoproduction and electroproduction to estimate their yields at EicC and EIC. Assuming $\Lambda_c(2940)$ as either a hadronic molecular state or a three-quark state, our analysis demonstrates that its production rates are of the same order of magnitude, posing challenges in identifying its underlying structure. After considering the integral luminosity, the yields of $\Lambda_c$ excited states reach $10^6$ to $10^7$ at EicC and EIC. The $(\bar{D}N)$ molecular states with both isospin $I = 0$ and $I = 1$ are also studied, with yields reaching $10^5$, making them likely to be detectable at these facilities., Comment: 8 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables

Model predictive control can achieve significant energy savings, offer grid flexibility, and mitigate carbon emissions. However, the challenge of identifying individual control-oriented building dynamic models limits large-scale real-world applications. To address this issue, this study proposed a Modularized Neural Network Incorporating Physical Priors (ModNN), capable of establishing a control-oriented and physical-consistent building dynamic model within minutes without substantial modeling effort. This is also the first study to evaluate the physical consistency of a given data-driven model both qualitatively and quantitively. We compared the physical consistency of a classical Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) model and our ModNN. The ModNN strictly satisfies physical constraints, whereas the LSTM model learned contradictory system dynamics. Additionally, we compared their control performance on an EnergyPlus virtual testbed. While the LSTM model demonstrated slightly better prediction accuracy in dynamic modeling, it failed in control optimization, resulting in an 89{\deg}C-h temperature violation, whereas the ModNN showed only a 0.57{\deg}C-h violation and achieved up to a 78% peak load reduction. Our findings highlight the importance of incorporating physics priors into data-driven models and provide a promising solution for future smart building control optimization. Furthermore, the proposed evaluation framework defines two physical consistency indicators, providing guidelines for selecting and testing control-oriented, data-driven building dynamic models.

Ultralight bosonic wave dark matter (DM) is preponderantly contesting the conventional cold DM paradigm in predicting diverse and rich phenomena on small scales. For a DM halo made of ultralight bosons, the wave interference naturally induces slow de Broglie time-scale fluctuations of the gravitational potential. In this paper, we first derive an estimation for the effect of a time-varying gravitational potential on photon propagation. Our numerical simulations suggest that the time-varying potential of a $10^{11}M_{\odot}$ halo composed of $10^{-22}\,\mathrm{eV}$ bosons would stretch or compress a time series signal by a factor of $10^{-10}$. Here, we propose that, due to the precise measurements of their arrival times, lensed repeating fast radio bursts (FRBs) have the potential to effectively validate temporal variations in gravitational potential by monitoring their images over a period of approximately $\mathcal{O}(1)$ years. As a fine-grained task, multimodal aspect-based sentiment analysis (MABSA) mainly focuses on identifying aspect-level sentiment information in the text-image pair. However, we observe that it is difficult to recognize the sentiment of aspects in low-quality samples, such as those with low-resolution images that tend to contain noise. And in the real world, the quality of data usually varies for different samples, such noise is called data uncertainty. But previous works for the MABSA task treat different quality samples with the same importance and ignored the influence of data uncertainty. In this paper, we propose a novel data uncertainty-aware multimodal aspect-based sentiment analysis approach, UA-MABSA, which weighted the loss of different samples by the data quality and difficulty. UA-MABSA adopts a novel quality assessment strategy that takes into account both the image quality and the aspect-based cross-modal relevance, thus enabling the model to pay more attention to high-quality and challenging samples. Extensive experiments show that our method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance on the Twitter-2015 dataset. Further analysis demonstrates the effectiveness of the quality assessment strategy.

Understanding how cosmic rays (CRs) propagate within the giant molecular clouds (GMCs) is critical for studying the dynamics and chemical processes inside the clouds. The flux of low-energy CRs inside the dense cores of GMCs strongly affects the heating and ionization of the gases and further influences the star-forming process. We analytically calculated the CR distribution inside GMCs assuming different diffusion coefficients, and estimated the corresponding nuclear de-excitation line emission and the ionization rate resulting from the interaction between the penetrating CRs and gases. TbV$_6$Sn$_6$ is a topological metal where ferromagnetic Tb ions with strong uniaxial magnetic anisotropy interact with V kagome layers. Inelastic neutron scattering measurements show that the Tb ions adopt an Ising doublet ground state. Here, we consider whether a transverse magnetic field can drive TbV$_6$Sn$_6$ towards a quantum critical point, providing a rare example of transverse-field Ising criticality in a metallic compound. High-field magnetization measurements suggest that this quantum criticality is avoided and reveal a first-order-like spin-reorientation transition at 25.6 T due to an excited-state level crossing. Theoretical analysis shows that small changes in the local Hamiltonian can restore the quantum criticality for some in-plane field directions, suggesting that TbV$_6$Sn$_6$ is close to a novel quantum tricritical point induced by in-plane magnetic anisotropy.

Early detection of surgical complications allows for timely therapy and proactive risk mitigation. Machine learning (ML) can be leveraged to identify and predict patient risks for postoperative complications. We developed and validated the effectiveness of predicting postoperative complications using a novel surgical Variational Autoencoder (surgVAE) that uncovers intrinsic patterns via cross-task and cross-cohort presentation learning. This retrospective cohort study used data from the electronic health records of adult surgical patients over four years (2018 - 2021). Six key postoperative complications for cardiac surgery were assessed: acute kidney injury, atrial fibrillation, cardiac arrest, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, blood transfusion, and other intraoperative cardiac events. We compared prediction performances of surgVAE against widely-used ML models and advanced representation learning and generative models under 5-fold cross-validation. 89,246 surgeries (49% male, median (IQR) age: 57 (45-69)) were included, with 6,502 in the targeted cardiac surgery cohort (61% male, median (IQR) age: 60 (53-70)). surgVAE demonstrated superior performance over existing ML solutions across all postoperative complications of cardiac surgery patients, achieving macro-averaged AUPRC of 0.409 and macro-averaged AUROC of 0.831, which were 3.4% and 3.7% higher, respectively, than the best alternative method (by AUPRC scores). Model interpretation using Integrated Gradients highlighted key risk factors based on preoperative variable importance. surgVAE showed excellent discriminatory performance for predicting postoperative complications and addressing the challenges of data complexity, small cohort sizes, and low-frequency positive events. surgVAE enables data-driven predictions of patient risks and prognosis while enhancing the interpretability of patient risk profiles., Comment: This article has been accepted for publication in Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association Published by Oxford University Press. Text-guided image generation and editing using diffusion models have achieved remarkable advancements. Among these, tuning-free methods have gained attention for their ability to perform edits without extensive model adjustments, offering simplicity and efficiency. However, existing tuning-free approaches often struggle with balancing fidelity and editing precision. Reconstruction errors in DDIM Inversion are partly attributed to the cross-attention mechanism in U-Net, which introduces misalignments during the inversion and reconstruction process. To address this, we analyze reconstruction from a structural perspective and propose a novel approach that replaces traditional cross-attention with uniform attention maps, significantly enhancing image reconstruction fidelity. Our method effectively minimizes distortions caused by varying text conditions during noise prediction. To complement this improvement, we introduce an adaptive mask-guided editing technique that integrates seamlessly with our reconstruction approach, ensuring consistency and accuracy in editing tasks. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach not only excels in achieving high-fidelity image reconstruction but also performs robustly in real image composition and editing scenarios. This study underscores the potential of uniform attention maps to enhance the fidelity and versatility of diffusion-based image processing methods. Continual learning aims to equip models with the ability to retain previously learned knowledge like a human. Recent work incorporating Parameter-Efficient Fine-Tuning has revitalized the field by introducing lightweight extension modules. However, existing methods usually overlook the issue of information leakage caused by the fact that the experiment data have been used in pre-trained models. Once these duplicate data are removed in the pre-training phase, their performance can be severely affected. In this paper, we propose a new LoRA-based rehearsal-free method named DESIRE. Our method avoids imposing additional constraints during training to mitigate catastrophic forgetting, thereby maximizing the learning of new classes. To integrate knowledge from old and new tasks, we propose two efficient post-processing modules. On the one hand, we retain only two sets of LoRA parameters for merging and propose dynamic representation consolidation to calibrate the merged feature representation. On the other hand, we propose decision boundary refinement to address classifier bias when training solely on new class data. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on multiple datasets and strikes an effective balance between stability and plasticity. The Gamma-Ray Transient Monitor (GTM) is an all-sky monitor onboard the Distant Retrograde Orbit-A (DRO-A) satellite, with the scientific objective of detecting gamma-ray bursts in the energy range of 20 keV to 1 MeV. The GTM is equipped with five Gamma-Ray Transient Probes (GTPs), utilizing silicon photomultiplier (SiPM) arrays coupled with NaI(Tl) scintillators for signal readout. To test the performance of the GTP in detecting electrons, we independently developed a continuous-energy-tunable, low-current, quasi-single-electron accelerator, and used this facility for ground-based electron calibration of the GTP. This paper provides a detailed description of the operational principles of the unique electron accelerator and comprehensively presents the process and results of electron calibration for the GTP. The calibration results indicate that the dead time for normal signals is less than 4 $\mu$s, while for overflow signals, it is approximately 70 $\mu$s, consistent with the design specifications. The GTP's time-recording capability is working correctly, accurately recording overflow events. The GTP responds normally to electrons in the 0.4-1.4 MeV energy range. The ground-based electron calibration validates the design of the GTP and enhances the probe's mass model, laying the foundation for payload development, in-orbit observation strategies, and scientific data analysis., Comment: 14 pages, 16 figures
