Introduction: In the context of the Semantic Web, interoperability among heterogeneous ontologies is a challenge due to several factors, among which semantic ambiguity and redundancy stand out. In order to overcome such challenges, systems and algorithms are adopted. In this study, it is understood that controlled vocabularies are a particular form of ontologies. Objective: to obtain a vocabulary resulting from the alignment and merging of the vocabularies Scientific Domains and Scientific Areas of FCT, EuroSciVoc and UNESCO nomenclature for fields of Science&Technology, in the domain of Computer Science, to be used within the IViSSEM project. Methodology: literature review on systems/algorithms for ontology alignment, using the PRISMA methodology; alignment of the three vocabularies; and vocabulary validation through Delphi study. Results: we proceeded to analyse the 25 ontology alignment systems and variants that participated in at least one track of the competition between 2018-2019. Of these systems were selected Agreement Maker Light and LogMap to perform the alignment of the three vocabularies, making a cut for the area of Computer Science. Conclusion: The vocabulary obtained from the Agreement Maker Light presented a better performance. At the end, a vocabulary with 98 terms was obtained in the Computer Science domain to be adopted by the IViSSEM project. The resulting alignment between the vocabulary used at national level by FCT (Portugal) with one used by the European Union (EuroSciVoc) and another one from the domain of Science&Technology (UNESCO), establishing fruitful relationships for other universities and projects, as well as for FCT itself. Para superar tais desafios, adota-se sistemas/algoritmos para alinhamento de ontologias. Neste estudo, entende-se que vocabulários controlados são uma forma particular de ontologias. Objetivo: obter um vocabulário resultante do alinhamento e fusão dos vocabulários Domínios Científicos e Áreas Científicas da FCT, EuroSciVoc e UNESCO nomenclature for fields of Science and Technology, no domínio Ciências da Computação, para ser usado no âmbito do projeto IViSSEM. Metodologia: revisão da literatura sobre sistemas/algoritmos para alinhamento de ontologias, utilizando a metodologia PRISMA; alinhamento dos três vocabulários; e validação do vocabulário por meio do estudo Delphi. Resultados: procedeu-se à análise dos 25 sistemas de alinhamento de ontologias e variantes que participaram de pelo menos uma track da competição entre 2018 e 2019. Destes sistemas foram selecionados Agreement Maker Light e LogMap para realizar o alinhamento dos três vocabulários, fazendo um recorte para a área da Ciência da Computação. Conclusão: O vocabulário obtido a partir do Agreement Maker Light apresentou uma melhor performance. Ao final foi obtido o vocabulário, com 98 termos, no domínio da Ciência da Computação a ser adotado pelo projeto IViSSEM. O alinhamento resultante entre o vocabulário utilizado a nível nacional pela FCT (Portugal) com um empregue pela União Europeia (EuroSciVoc) e outro do domínio da Ciência&Tecnologia (UNESCO), estabelecendo relações proveitosas para outras universidades e projetos, bem como para a própria FCT.&nbsp

Proceedings of Ongoing Research, Practitioners, Workshops, Posters, and Projects of the International Conference EGOV-CeDEM-ePart 2020., Open Government Data (OGD) is heralded as a pillar for promoting openness and e- Government. Several OGD benchmark instruments have been proposed, and so many options could confuse open data users. We intend to help practitioners and researchers decide which benchmark instrument is most appropriate to evaluate a specific purpose. We aim to investigate the different dimensions that OGD benchmarks evaluate to find out what aspects of publishing and using open data they measure. To achieve this goal, we built upon previous research on how the Open Data Charter principles are measured in OGD assessments and enriched the analysis with additional dimensions. Findings reveal that what differentiates these benchmark instruments is their scope or focus, as their creators have varying interests and objectives. All benchmark instruments measure "data openness"; however, each emphasizes different aspects of "openness." Concepts measured are deeply connected with the six Charter principles. OGD impact, use, and usefulness are addressed by half of the benchmark instruments. Measurements can be compared. Over 2.5 million scientific articles are published annually, totaling 6,849.32 per day in 2015; in 2018 this value was increased to over 3 million articles, totaling 8.219,18 per day [1]. Thus, finding the most relevant Research Outputs (ROs), such as articles, theses, patents, among others, is increasingly difficult due, in part, to the existing interfaces returning massive lists of results. 6,849.32 new research journal articles are published every day. The exponential growth of Scientific Knowledge Objects (SKOs) on the Web, makes searches time-consuming. Access to the right and relevant SKOs is vital for research, which calls for several topics, including the visualization of science dynamics. We present an interface model aimed to represent of the relations that emerge in the science social space dynamics, namely through the visualization and navigation of the relational structures between researchers, SKOs, knowledge domains, subdomains, and topics. This interface considers the relationship between the researcher who reads and shares the relevant articles and the researcher who wants to find the most relevant SKOs within a subject matter. This article presents the first iteration of the conceptualization process of the interface layout, its interactivity and visualization structures. It is essential to consider the hierarchical and relational structures/algorithms to represent the science social space dynamics. These structures are not being used as analysis tools, because it is not objective to show the linkage properties of these relationships. Instead, they are used as a means of representing, navigating and exploring these relationships. Currently, the existence of large amounts of data suggests the use of tools capable of processing them and facilitate the process of finding new knowledge. The discovery of new facts that were not previously explicit in data can be crucial to decision-making processes. In this article, we present a survey on Semantic Web standards, stores of RDF data (Resource Description Framework) and inference mechanisms available in RDF stores. The main goal is to report how inference can be applied and derive new facts from existing data. For this purpose, we demonstrate inferences obtained from a set of predefined rules over data about scientific publications stored in a NoSQL database designated of MarkLogic., Atualmente, a existência de grandes volumes de dados sugere a utilização de ferramentas capazes de os processar e de facilitar o processo de descoberta de novo conhecimento. A descoberta de novos factos, que não estavam explícitos anteriormente, pode ser crucial para os processos de tomada de decisão. Nesse contexto, este artigo apresenta uma revisão da literatura relevante relativa a normas da Web Semântica, repositórios de dados RDF (Resource Description Framework) e mecanismos de inferência disponíveis em repositórios RDF. O objetivo principal é o de relatar como é que a inferência pode ser aplicada e derivar novos factos a partir dos dados já existentes. It presents a metadata application profile, aligned with Linked Data principles, developed based on the information needs of physicians and researchers for scientific digital repositories in the field of Oncology. Design Science Research was the basis for the design of the research. It is a research with a qualitative approach, based on bibliographical and documentary search, gathering structured information about application profiles, schemas and metadata elements adopted by organizations and institutions in the context of scientific digital repositories. The Survey was used, through two SurveyMonkey electronic questionnaires to identify the information needs of physicians and researchers in the field of Oncology, in Portugal; and application profiles, schemas and metadata elements in the context of scientific digital repositories. In order to develop the application profile, Me4MAP was used, an approach based on the Singapore Framework - Dublin Core Application Profile. The research provided the following results: recognition of the information needs of physicians and researchers in the field of Oncology; identification of schemas and metadata elements used by digital repositories and characterization of application profiles. The application profile included selected metadata elements from the schemas and analyzed profiles, and types of information needs. The types of information needs were translated into vocabularies identified in the Linked Open Vocabulary and Open Metadata Registry. [Excerto] Introdução: Acesso Aberto (AA) significa “acesso em linha permanente, imediato e gratuito ao texto integral de artigos de investigação por qualquer pessoa em qualquer ponto da web (HARNAD, 2007). Os repositórios digitais científicos são uma das formas mais comuns de implementar o AA; constituem o que normalmente se designa por via verde para o AA. Estes repositórios normalmente incorporam vários tipos de documentos científicos, mas os mais comuns são os artigos científicos e as teses e dissertações. A informação sobre estes documentos é armazenada em registros que se expõem ao exterior como registros de metadados em formato OAI-DC, que mais não é do que um formato XML criado no âmbito da Open Archives Initiative (OAI) para veicular metadados utilizando os famosos 15 termos do Dublin Core Metadata Element Set (DCMES) (DUBLIN CORE METADATA INITIATIVE, 2008). Estes registros podem depois ser coletados por outro software que obedeça ao protocolo Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) de modo a serem incorporados em bases de dados que suportam serviços de valor acrescentado à comunidade científica. A utilização do formato OAI-DC para os registros de metadados garante interoperabilidade sintática. Contudo, qualquer breve análise desses registros revela de forma límpida os problemas que ainda subsistem em termos de qualidade dos metadados e, por isso, da interoperabilidade semântica. Pretende-se com este documento de posição apresentar à comunidade Ibero-Americana de metadados em repositórios digitais as soluções já há vários anos divisadas pelas comunidades internacionais de metadados e de web semântica. Estas passam pela aplicação rigorosa do quarto nível de interoperabilidade Dublin Core (DC), o que implica o desenvolvimento e a aplicação, em Resource Description Framework (RDF), de perfis de aplicação de metadados específicos. Desafia-se, assim, a comunidade Ibero-Americana de metadados em repositórios digitais a dar um passo em frente rumo à web semântica e aos Dados Abertos Ligados (DAL)1 a fim de maximizar a interoperabilidade semântica entre os seus repositórios e entre estes e os do resto do mundo. This chapter presents the process of developing a Metadata Application Profile for the Social and Solidarity Economy (DCAP-SSE) using Me4MAP, a method for developing Application Profiles that was being put forth by the authors. The DCAPSSE and Me4MAP were developed iteratively, feeding new developments into each other. This paper presents how the DCAP-SSE was developed showing the steps followed through the development of the activities and the techniques used, and the final deliverables obtained at the end of each activity. It also presents the work-team and how each profile of the team contributed for the DCAP-SSE development process. The DCAP-SSE has been endorsed by the SSE community and new perspectives of SSE activities have been defined for future enlargement of the DCAP-SSE. More than 6,849.32 new research journal articles are published every day! Who has time to read every article or document that’s relevant to their research? Access to the right and relevant information is paramount for scientific discoveries. Filtering relevant information has become a fundamental challenge in the actual scientific deluge panorama. As information glut grows ever worse, understanding and visualizing the science social behavior may become our only hope for handling a growing deluge of scientific information. It is therefore fundamental to analyze and interactively visualize the science social space. This paper theoretically conceptualizes an approach aimed at the filtering and navigation of relevant Scientific Knowledge Objects (SKOs) based on a symbiosis between different sub-disciplines domains. We present two main contributions, a comparison among several projects with some relevant use of information visualization in scholarly scientific navigation; and an architecture which will be in line with the most recent international standards and good practices for Open Data, especially those related to Linked Open Data capable to perform an innovative information visualization of relevant SKOs. SusCity is a MIT Portugal project that falls within the scope of smart cities. One of its tasks aims to research and develop metadata artefacts to be used in the scope of a Linked Open Data platform. In this article, we report the process and results associated with the development of the following metadata artefacts: an application profile, a metadata schema and four controlled vocabularies. The application field is the energy certification of buildings. For the development of the application profile, we inspired ourselves in the Me4MAP method although we did not use it thoroughly. The creation of the metadata schema and controlled vocabularies involved the use of Wikidata, so all new terms (RDFS classes and properties and SKOS concepts) are related to Wikidata terms. The results include the application profile, the metadata schema and the controlled vocabularies. The application profile has 13 properties, four of which are new. The controlled vocabulary on measures for energy performance has 22 new terms spread over four levels. The remaining controlled vocabularies just hold a few terms each. The dataset that resulted from the survey is openly available at RepositóriUM: http://hdl.handle.net/1822/35527, Shows the results of a survey by questionnaire sent to the managers of 2, 165 digital repositories registered at OpenDOAR. Its purpose was to identify the existence and the use of application profiles and related metadata schemas. Of this total, 431 questionnaires were filled. The survey enabled the identification of metadata application profiles, as well as schemas and metadata elements/properties used within these repositories. According to the results, the number of repositories that use or provide metadata application profiles is 13, which we consider as very low. The Dublin Core remains as the most commonly used metadata schema, followed by MARC 21, METS and MODS. Este artigo apresenta o caso de estudo de criação do novo Mestrado em Empreendedorismo em Tecnologias e Serviços de Informação da Universidade do Minho. Trata-se de um curso que visa proporcionar um espaço de formação de segundo ciclo vocacionado para o desenvolvimento de competências de criação de novos serviços e negócios centrados em Tecnologias de Informação. Após uma breve apresentação do formato do curso, serão apresentados alguns dos principais desafios que se colocaram na sua elaboração. Na sua generalidade, trata-se de desafios genéricos para a formulação de cursos destas natureza. This article presents a work-in-progress version of a Dublin Core Application Profile (DCAP) developed to serve the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE). Studies revealed that this community is interested in implementing both internal interoperability between their Web platforms to build a global SSE e-marketplace, and external interoperability among their Web platforms and external ones. The Dublin Core Application Profile for Social and Solidarity Economy (DCAP-SSE) serves this purpose. SSE organisations are submerged in the market economy but they have specificities not taken into account in this economy. The DCAP-SSE integrates terms from well-known metadata schemas, Resource Description Framework (RDF) vocabularies or ontologies, in order to enhance interoperability and take advantage of the benefits of the Linked Open Data ecosystem. It also integrates terms from the new essglobal RDF vocabulary which was created with the goal to respond to the SSE-specific needs. The DCAPSSE also integrates five new Vocabulary Encoding Schemes to be used with DCAP-SSE properties. The DCAP development was based on a method for the development of application profiles (Me4MAP). We believe that this article has an educational value since it presents the idea that it is important to base DCAP developments on a method. The processes and forms of electronic publishing have been changing since the advent of the Web. In recent years, the open access movement has been a major driver of scholarly communication, and change is also evident in other fields such as e-government and e-learning. Whilst many changes are driven by technological advances, an altered social reality is also pushing the boundaries of digital publishing. With 23 articles and 10 posters, Elpub 2012 focuses on the social shaping of digital publishing and explores the interplay between culture and technology. This book contains the proceedings of the conference, consisting of 11 accepted full articles and 12 articles accepted as extended abstracts. The articles are presented in groups, and cover the topics: digital scholarship and publishing; special archives; libraries and repositories; digital texts and readings; and future solutions and innovations. Offering an overview of the current situation and exploring the trends of the future, this book will be of interest to all those whose work involves digital publishing.

Esquemas de metadados utilizados por reposit��rios digitais cient��ficos e de objetos educacionais: estudo preliminar, Cadernos BAD, N.�� 2 (2014): Atas da 5�� Confer��ncia Luso-Brasileira sobre Acesso Aberto

Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Electronic Publishing, This article presents a literature review whose aim was to identify the reported infonnation needs of researchers when they consult bibliographic databases. Initially, 192 articles were retrieved using Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar databases. After applying the criteria for exclusion, the number of articles was reduced to 16, which is already an indicator of the small number of studies on this specific topic. The results show that it is hard to identify thc information needs of researchers. They also show that the researchers have been requiring information with a higher degree of granularity. We conclude that although the available studies provide important infonnation about the researchers' information necds and hints on how to address thcm, there is a necd for more indepth studies. Thc results of these decper studies may be useful to scrvc as an indication for the creation of new procedures and tools, including those based on new metadata elements drawn to improve search results on Linked Open Data tools., CAPES Foundation, Ministry of Education of Brazil for financial support to our research activities. This report is framed in a research in progress project that has as goal the development of a method for the development of Dublin Core Application Pro les (Me4DCAP). The development of the rst version of Me4DCAP has been published. This paper describes in detail Me4DCAP V0.1, showing the sources used to justify its design. Me4DCAP was based in a Design Science Research methodological approach. It has as starting point the Singapore framework for Dublin Core Application Pro les (DCAP) and the Rational Uni ed Process; and integrates also knowledge from: (i) software development processes and techniques, focusing on the early stages of the processes that deal with data modeling; and from (ii) the practices of the metadata community concerning DCAP development. Me4DCAP establishes the way through the DCAP development. It establishes when activities must take place, how they interconnect, and which deliverables they will bring about; it also suggests which techniques should be used to build these deliverables.

This chapter presents the state-of-the-art on interoperability developments for the social and solidarity economy web based information systems. A search on the bibliographic databases showed that there are no articles on interoperability initiatives on the social and solidarity economy, so it was necessary to have other sources of information: a preliminary analysis of the platforms that support social and solidarity economy activities; and interviews with the representatives of some of the world’s most important social and solidarity economy organizations. The study showed that the platforms are still not interoperable, but that there are efforts in this direction promoted by the social and solidarity economy organizations. It is clear that these organizations will need to find a common framework of understanding in order to implement interoperability among their platforms., (undefined)

Our research in progress project aims the design of a method for the development of Dublin Core Application Profiles (Me4DCAP).
