Potato blackleg and soft rot caused by Pectobacterium and Dickeya species are among the most significant bacterial diseases affecting potato production globally. In this study we estimate the impact of future temperatures on establishment of non-indigenous but confirmed Pectobacterium and Dickeya species in Great Britain (GB). The calculations are based on probabilistic climate change data and a model fitted to disease severity data from a controlled environment tuber assay with the dominant potato blackleg and soft rot-causing species in GB (P. atrosepticum), and three of the main causative agents in Europe (P. carotovorum subsp. brasiliense, P. parmentieri, Dickeya solani). Our aim was to investigate if the European strains could become stronger competitors in the GB potato ecosystem as the climate warms, on the basis of their aggressiveness in tubers at different temperatures. Principally, we found that the tissue macerating capacity of all four pathogens will increase in GB under all emissions scenarios. The predominant Pectobacterium and Dickeya species in Europe are able to cause disease in tubers under field conditions currently seen in GB but are not expected to become widely established in the future, at least on the basis of their aggressiveness in tubers relative to P. atrosepticum under GB conditions. Our key take-home messages are that the GB potato industry is well positioned to continue to thrive via current best management practices and continued reinforcement of existing legislation. Pectolytic bacteria, including Pectobacterium spp. and Dickeya spp., are best isolated on crystal violet pectate (CVP), a semiselective medium containing pectin. The source of pectin is essential, because pectolytic bacteria are not able to degrade all of them. The aims of this study were to identify a new pectin source and to perfect formulations of semiselective CVP media to isolate the pectolytic bacteria Pectobacterium spp. and Dickeya spp. from different environmental compartments (plants, soil and water). The AG366 pectin, selected after screening six different formulations, was incorporated into single-layer (SL-CVP
AG366 ) and double-layer (DL-CVPAG366 ) CVP media. Both media were compared with those based on Bulmer, Sigma-Aldrich and Slendid-Burger pectins, using 39 Pectobacterium and Dickeya strains. All strains formed deep cavities on AG366-CVPs, whereas nine did not produce cavities on Bulmer or Sigma-Aldrich media. Recovery rates were similar on DL-CVPAG366 , Sigma-Aldrich and Bulmer CVPs for a given taxon, and did not differ significantly between SL- and DL-CVPAG366 . Pectolytic bacteria were successfully isolated on both media from field samples of diseased potatoes, carrots, tobacco, onions, radishes and ornamentals. AG366 is thus a high-performance pectin source for the elaboration of CVP media suitable to isolate Dickeya and Pectobacterium. It is also efficient for enrichment purposes in liquid medium. The validation of AG366 as an improved source of pectin to recover the polyphagous Pectobacterium and Dickeya in different environmental compartments is essential given the current worldwide emergence and recrudescence of these bacteria. This paper briefly reviews research on the causative agents of blackleg and soft rot diseases of potato, namely Pectobacterium and Dickeya species, and the disease syndrome, including epidemiological and aetiological aspects. It critically evaluates control methods used in practice based on the avoidance of the contamination of plants, in particular the use of seed testing programmes and the application of hygienic procedures during crop production. It considers the perspective of breeding and genetic modification to introduce resistance. It also evaluates the application of physical and chemical tuber treatments to reduce inoculum load and examines the possibility of biocontrol using antagonistic bacteria and bacteriophages. ERWINIA carotovora ,POTATO diseases & pests - Abstract
The relationship between contamination of potato seed tubers with Erwinia carotovora ssp. atroseptica (Eca), blackleg disease development, and the incidence and level of progeny tuber contamination in field grown crops was studied in 1998, 1999 and 2000. Seed tubers were inoculated by vacuum infiltration at three levels (low, intermediate and high) with a streptomycin-resistant marker strain of Eca (SCRI1039
Str ) and planted in the field. Blackleg disease development was directly related to the level of seed tuber contamination. The higher the level of seed tuber contamination, the earlier in the season blackleg disease appeared and the greater the final level of disease, which continued to rise as the season progressed. High and low levels of seed tuber contamination were related to high and low incidences of progeny tuber contamination, respectively, at all sampling times. However, an intermediate degree of seed tuber contamination tended to be associated with a low level of blackleg disease, a variable incidence of progeny tuber contamination early in the season but a high incidence later in the season. The level of progeny tuber contamination, derived from seed tubers inoculated at the three different levels of Eca, was categorized into four contamination classes (< 102 , 102 –103 , 103 –104 and > 104 marker strain colony-forming units/mL peel extract). At the lowest level of seed tuber contamination, progeny tuber contamination tended to be in the two lower categories. However, as seed tuber contamination increased, the proportion of contaminated progeny tubers in the two higher categories also increased. Overall, the results suggest that progeny tuber contamination is related to seed tuber contamination and blackleg disease, and that the threshold level of seed tuber contamination remains an important factor in predicting both blackleg disease and tuber health. POTATO diseases & pests ,ERWINIA - Abstract
Three soft rot erwinias, Erwinia carotovora ssp. carotovora , E. carotovora ssp. atroseptica and E. chrysanthemi are associated with potatoes causing tuber soft rot and blackleg (stem rot). Latent infection of tubers and stems is widespread. As opportunistic pathogens, the bacteria tend to cause disease when potato resistance is impaired. Pathogenesis or disease development in potato tubers and stems is discussed in terms of the interaction between pathogen, host and environment, microbial competition and recent findings on the molecular basis of pathogenicity. Emphasis is placed on the role of free water and anaerobiosis in weakening tuber resistance and in providing nutrient for erwinias to multiply. Blackleg symptoms are expressed when erwinias predominate in rotting mother tubers, invade the stems and multiply in xylem vessels under favourable weather conditions. Soft rot erwinias tend to out-compete other bacteria in tuber rots because of their ability to produce larger quantities of a wider range of cell wall-degrading enzymes. However, despite extensive studies on their induction, regulation and secretion, little is known about the precise role of the different enzymes in pathogenesis. The putative role of quorum-sensing regulation of these enzymes in disease development is evaluated. The role certain pathogenicity-related characters, including motility, adhesion, siderophores, detoxifying systems and the hrp gene complex, common to most bacteria including symbionts and saprophytes, could play in latent and active infections is also discussed. - Abstract
The profusion of images in the twentieth century surpasses any other moment in the history of the image in the west, with most of these images coming from the media and especially from advertising. According to Vilém Flusser, the images produced by the media and by advertising are technical images, that is, images produced from scientific texts, while traditional images had as a reference the concrete world, serving as a map that guided the visual, the technical images seek to create a world view with reference to the technical texts that support the visual culture of this century. Based on the discussion proposed by Flusser about the universe of technical images, this research questions the use of advertising techniques that focuses on the automation of consumer behavior towards the brand, offering a critical analysis of the process of abstraction and automation of the inserted advertising Today in the context of technological capitalism. The methodology is based on bibliographical and documentary research, mainly in reading the concepts of Vilém Flusser's apparatus, Norval Baitello Junior's Iconofagia, Raúl Eguizábal's Technological Capitalism and the HumanKind marketing guide published by the Léo Burnett agency in 2010. From Analysis, it was possible to identify that what is at stake in the process of abstraction and automation of advertising is the exercise of the consumer's will in consumer relations and the suppression of otherness. In the economy of gluttony, presented by Flusser, the consumer-consumption vector is inverted to give vent to all the exacerbated production of the market. This inversion becomes possible by weakening the power of the body through the processes of abstraction, so the technical images of advertising can guide people's perception of themselves, their purposes and causes with which they wish to engage. Thus, the brand programs its image so that the consumer can identify with it, so that at the end of the process the consumer starts to identify itself from it. Thus, the brand ceases to be the "other" of the consumer relationship and becomes the consumer's own image, without the negativity and resistance that presents itself to otherness. As a propositive critic, it is presented as a possibility of deconstruction of this scenario the return to a professional practice that contemplates the variable creativity, that can be rescued from a vision of game against the apparatus in which is present the playful spirit and the risk

This article discusses Little Caesar (Mervyn LeRoy, 1930) in order to observe how the adaptations made from W. R. Burnett’s novel of the same name published in 1929 altered the original text, mainly regarding the Christian moralistic tone of the narrative. Our aim is to identify, through the analysis of some of Little Caesar’s scenes, these adaptations and their effect on the narrative.
• Winter wheat (Triticum aestivum) and winter barley (Hordeum vulgare) were grown on soil contaminated with different levels of a marked bacterial potato pathogen Erwinia carotovora ssp. atroseptica (Eca) from a previous blackleg-infected potato crop, to determine whether the presence of this pathogen could affect disease development on wheat and barley. • The diseases 'septoria leaf blotch' and 'powdery mildew' on wheat (caused by Septoria tritici and Blumeria graminis f. sp. tritici, respectively) and 'scald' or 'rhynchosporium' on barley (caused by Rhynchosporium secalis) were assessed over two growing seasons, and the presence of the marked Eca strain monitored. • Wheat diseases were greater on the areas with high levels of Eca contamination than on areas with low-level contamination. Rhynchosporium on barley was not affected overall, although it decreased on the high-level contamination areas early in the season. The Eca strain was detected on the upper foliage of both wheat and barley. • Increased S. tritici symptoms in the field may be due to 'synergistic' interactions between the Eca and the fungal mycelium, as reported in previously published laboratory experiments. The potential importance of such fungal-bacterial interactions is discussed.

Abstract: In the course of this work we have three objectives: (i) firstly we obtained the relativistic second order Burnett equations for a single-component gas on the basis of kinetic theory and Grad’s moment method. We did a detailed analysis of the coefficients of dynamic pressure, heat flux and pressure deviator, making their expansions for the non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic cases. Then we verified that our results agree with Wang Chang and Uhlenbeck’s results, on the non-relativistic limit; (ii) next, we obtained the relativistic second order Burnett equations for a single-component gas on the basis of the kinetic model of Anderson and Witting and we compared the transport coefficients with results obtained by the Grad’s moment method. The kinetic model of Anderson and Witting is a good approximation for the Grad’s moment method in the ultra-relativistic limit. (iii) finally, as an application of our results, we analysed the propagation of sound in the case of five and fourteen fields. Plots of the phase velocity and absorption of sound are given together with their non-relativistic and ultra-relativistic limits.

Abstract: Based on Enskog dense gas theory, Grad method of moments and on Chapman-Enskog method, we obtain linear expressions for the pressure tensor and for the heat flux corresponding to the third aproximation of the distribution function. These expressions are known as Burnett equations. This aproximation yields effects known as: iD thermal stress, which indicates the appearance of a stress due to a second gradient of temperature. iiD viscous heat flux, which indicates the appearance of a heat flux due to a second gradient of velocity. The problem concerning the propagation of plane harmonic waves of small amplitude is analyzed for the theories of Burnett, 13-field and Navier-Stokes-Fourier. The phase speed and the attenuation coefficient are obtained for each theory and the results are compared.
