We analyse a sample of 21 `bare' Seyfert~1 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs), a sub-class of Seyfert~1s, with intrinsic absorption $\mathrm{N_{H}} \sim 10^{20}~ \mathrm{cm}^{-2}$, in the local universe (z $<$ 0.2) using {\it XMM-Newton} and {\it Swift}/XRT observations. The luminosities of the primary continuum, the X-ray emission in the 3 to 10 keV energy range and the soft-excess, the excess emission that appears above the low-energy extrapolation of the power-law fit of 3 to 10 keV X-ray spectra, are calculated. Our spectral analysis reveals that the long-term intrinsic luminosities of the soft-excess and the primary continuum are tightly correlated $(L_{PC}\propto L_{SE}^{1.1\pm0.04})$. We also found that the luminosities are correlated for each source. We study the recent outburst of the black hole candidate EXO 1846-031 which went into an outburst in 2019 after almost 34 years in quiescence. We use archival data from Swift/XRT, MAXI/GSC, NICER/XTI and NuSTAR/FPM satellites/instruments to study the evolution of the spectral and temporal properties of the source during the outburst. Low energy (2-10 keV) X-ray flux of the outburst shows multiple peaks making it a multipeak outburst. Evolving type-C quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) are observed in the NICER data in the hard, hard intermediate and soft intermediate states. We use the physical Two Component Advective Flow (TCAF) model to analyze the combined spectra of multiple satellite instruments. According to the TCAF model, the accreting matter is divided into Keplerian and sub-Keplerian parts, and the variation in the observed spectra in different spectral states arises out of the variable contributions of these two types of accreting matter in the total accretion rate. Studying the evolution of the accretion rates and other properties of the accretion flow obtained from the spectral analysis, we show how the multiple peaks in the outburst flux arises out of variable supply of accreting matter from the pile-up radius. We determine the probable mass of the black hole to be $10.4^{+0.1}_{-0.2}~M_\odot$ from the spectral analysis with the TCAF model. We study the spectral properties and accretion flow behavior of an ultraluminous X-ray source M82\,X-1 using {\it NuSTAR} observations. We use the physical two component advective flow (TCAF) model to fit the data and to derive the accretion flow properties of the source. From the model fitted parameters, we found that M82\,X-1 is harboring an intermediate mass black hole at its centre, where the mass varies from $156.04^{+13.51}_{-15.30}$ to $380.96^{28.38}_{-29.76}$ M$_\odot$. The error weighted average mass of the black hole is $273\pm43$ M$_\odot$, which accreted in nearly super-Eddington rate. The Compton cloud was compact with a size of $\sim13 r_g$ and the shock compression ratio had \textcolor{black}{nearly intermediate values except for the epoch four}. These indicate a possible significant mass outflow from the inner region of the disk. The quasi periodic oscillation (QPO) frequencies estimated from the model fitted parameters can reproduce the observed QPOs. The X-ray emission in BL Lac objects is believed to be dominated by synchrotron emission from their relativistic jets. However, when the jet emission is not strong, one could expect signatures of X-ray emission from inverse Compton scattering of accretion disc photons by the corona. Moreover, the observed X-ray variability can also originate in the disc, and gets propagated and amplified by the jet. Here, we present results on the BL Lac object Mrk 421 using the NuSTAR data acquired during 2017 when the source was in a moderate X-ray brightness state. For comparison with high jet activity, we also considered one epoch data in April 2013 during a very high X-ray brightness state. Our aim is to explore the possibility of the signature of accretion disc emission in the overall X-ray emission from Mrk 421. The spectral fitting of the data using the two component advective flow model shows gives (a) the size of the dynamic corona at the base of the jet from ~28 to 10 r$_s$, (b) the disc mass accretion rate from 0.021 to 0.051 $\dot M_{\rm Edd}$, (c) the halo mass accretion rate from 0.22 to 0.35 $\dot M_{\rm Edd}$, and (d) the viscosity parameter of the Keplerian accretion disc from 0.18 $-$ 0.25. In the assumed model, the total flux, disc and jet flux correlate with the radio flux observed during these epochs. We conclude that the spectra of all the epochs of Mrk 421 in 2017 are well described by the accretion disc based two component advective flow model. The estimated disc and jet flux relations with radio flux show that accretion disc can contribute to the observed X-ray emission, when X-ray data (that covers a small portion of the broad band spectral energy distribution of Mrk 421) is considered in isolation. Spectral and timing properties of accretion flows on a black hole depend on their density and temperature distributions, which in turn come from the underlying dynamics. Thus, an accurate description of the flow which includes hydrodynamics and radiative transfer is a must to interpret the observational results. In the case of non-rotating black holes, Pseudo-Newtonian description of surrounding space-time enables one to make a significant progress in predicting spectral and timing properties. This formalism is lacking for spinning black holes. In this paper, we show that there exists an exact form of 'natural' potential derivable from the general relativistic (GR) radial momentum equation. Use of this potential in an otherwise Newtonian set of equations allows to describe transonic flows very accurately as is evidenced by comparing with solutions obtained from the full GR framework. We study the properties of the critical points and the centrifugal pressure supported shocks in the parameter space spanned by the specific energy and the angular momentum, and compare with the results of GR hydrodynamics. We show that this potential can safely be used for the entire range of Kerr parameter $-1

The study of secondary particles produced by the cosmic-ray interaction in the Earth's atmosphere is very crucial as these particles mainly constitute the background counts produced in the high-energy detectors at balloon and satellite altitudes. In the present work, we calculate the abundance of cosmic-ray generated secondary particles at various heights of the atmosphere by means of a Monte Carlo simulation and use this result to understand the background counts in our X-ray observations using balloon-borne instruments operating near the tropical latitude (geomagnetic latitude: $\sim 14.50^{\circ}$ N). For this purpose, we consider a 3D description of the atmospheric and geomagnetic field configurations surrounding the Earth, as well as the electromagnetic and nuclear interaction processes using Geant4 simulation toolkit. Subsequently, we use a realistic mass model description of the detector under consideration, to simulate the counts produced in the detector due to secondary cosmic-ray particles., Comment: 24 pages, 6 figures

We performed a detailed modelling of the background counts observed in a phoswich scintillator X-ray detector at balloon altitude, used for astronomical observations, on board small scientific balloon. We used Monte Carlo simulation technique in Geant4 simulation environment, to estimate the detector background from various plausible sources. High energy particles and radiation generated from the interaction of Galactic Cosmic Rays with the atmospheric nuclei is a major source of background counts (under normal solar condition) for such detectors. However, cosmogenic or induced radioactivity in the detector materials due to the interaction of high energy particles and natural radioactive contamination present in the detector can also contribute substantially to the detector background. We considered detailed 3D modelling of the earth's atmosphere and magnetosphere to calculate the radiation environment at the balloon altitude and deployed a proper mass model of the detector to calculate the background counts in it. The calculation satisfactorily explains the observed background in the detector at 30 km altitude (atmospheric depth: 11.5 $g/cm^{2}$) during the balloon flight experiment from a location near 14.5$^{\circ}$N geomagnetic latitude., Comment: 28 pages, 8 figures

It is speculated that there might be some linkage between interstellar aldehydes and their corresponding alcohols. Here, an observational study and astrochemical modeling are coupled together to illustrate the connection between them. The ALMA Cycle 4 data of a hot molecular core, G10.47+0.03 is utilized for this study. Various aldehydes (acetaldehyde, propanal, and glycolaldehyde), alcohols (methanol and ethylene glycol), and a ketone (acetone) are identified in this source. The excitation temperatures and the column densities of these species were derived via the rotation diagram method assuming LTE conditions. An extensive investigation is carried out to understand the formation of these species. Six pairs of aldehyde-alcohol: i) methanal and methanol; ii) ethanal and ethanol; iii) propanal and 1-propanol; iv) propenal and allyl alcohol; v) propynal and propargyl alcohol; vi) glycolaldehyde and ethylene glycol; vii) along with one pair of ketone-alcohol (acetone and isopropanol) and viii) ketene-alcohol (ethenone and vinyl alcohol) are considered for this study. Two successive hydrogenation reactions in the ice phase are examined to form these alcohols from aldehydes, ketone, and ketene, respectively. Quantum chemical methods are extensively executed to review the ice phase formation route and the kinetics of these species. Based on the obtained kinetic data, astrochemical modeling is employed to derive the abundances of these aldehydes, alcohols, ketone, and ketene in this source. Outflows are common in many astrophysical systems. In the Two Component Advective Flow ({\fontfamily{qcr}\selectfont TCAF}) paradigm which is essentially a generalized Bondi flow including rotation, viscosity and cooling effects, the outflow is originated from the hot, puffed up, post-shock region at the inner edge of the accretion disk. We consider this region to be the base of the jet carrying away matter with high velocity. In this paper, we study the spectral properties of black holes using {\fontfamily{qcr}\selectfont TCAF} which includes also a jet ({\fontfamily{qcr}\selectfont JeTCAF}) in the vertical direction of the disk plane. Soft photons from the Keplerian disk are up-scattered by the post-shock region as well as by the base of the jet and are emitted as hard radiation. We also include the bulk motion Comptonization effect by the diverging flow of jet. Our self-consistent accretion-ejection solution shows how the spectrum from the base of the jet varies with accretion rates, geometry of the flow and the collimation factor of the jet. We apply the solution to a jetted candidate GS\,1354-64 to estimate its mass outflow rate and the geometric configuration of the flow during 2015 outburst using {\it NuSTAR} observation. The estimated mass outflow to mass inflow rate is $0.12^{+0.02}_{-0.03}$. From the model fitted accretion rates, shock compression ratio and the energy spectral index, we identify the presence of hard and intermediate spectral states of the outburst. An inverse P-Cygni profile of H13CO+ (1-0) in G31.41+0.31 was recently observed, which indicates the presence of an infalling gas envelope. Also, an outflow tracer, SiO, was observed. Here, exclusive radiative transfer modelings have been implemented to generate synthetic spectra of some key species (H13 CO+, HCN, SiO, NH3, CH3 CN, CH3OH, CH3SH, and CH3NCO) and extract the physical features to infer the excitation conditions of the surroundings where they observed. The gas envelope is assumed to be accreting in a spherically symmetric system towards the central hot core region. Our principal intention was to reproduce the observed line profiles toward G31.41+0.31 and extract various physical parameters. The LTE calculation with CASSIS and non-LTE analysis with the RATRAN radiative transfer codes are considered for the modeling purpose. The best-fitted line parameters are derived, which represents the prevailing physical condition of the gas envelope. Our results suggest that an infalling gas could explain the observed line profiles of all the species mentioned above except SiO. An additional outflow component is required to confer the SiO line profile. Phosphorus related species are not known to be as omnipresent in space as hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur-bearing species. Astronomers spotted very few P-bearing molecules in the interstellar medium and circumstellar envelopes. Limited discovery of the P-bearing species imposes severe constraints in modeling the P-chemistry. In this paper, we carry out extensive chemical models to follow the fate of P-bearing species in diffuse clouds, photon-dominated or photodissociation regions (PDRs), and hot cores/corinos. We notice a curious correlation between the abundances of PO and PN and atomic nitrogen. Since N atoms are comparatively abundant in diffuse clouds and PDRs than in the hot core/corino region, PO/PN reflects < 1 in diffuse clouds, << 1 in PDRs, and > 1 in the late warm-up evolutionary phase of the hot core/corino regions. During the end of the post-warm-up phase, we obtain PO/PN > 1 for hot core and < 1 for its low mass analog. We employ a radiative transfer model to investigate the transitions of some of the P-bearing species in diffuse cloud and hot core regions and estimate the line profiles. Our study estimates the required integration time to observe these transitions with ground-based and space-based telescopes. We also carry out quantum chemical computation of the infrared features of PH3 along with various impurities. We notice that SO2 overlaps with the PH3 bending-scissoring modes around ~ (1000 - 1100) cm-1. The abundance of interstellar ice constituents is usually expressed with respect to the water ice because, in denser regions, a significant portion of the interstellar grain surface would be covered by water ice. The binding energy (BE), or adsorption energy of the interstellar species regulates the chemical complexity of the interstellar grain mantle. Due to the high abundance of water ice, the BE of surface species with the water is usually provided and widely used in astrochemical modeling. However, the hydrogen molecules would cover some part of the grain mantle in the denser and colder part of the interstellar medium. Even at around ~ 10K, few atoms and simple molecules with lower adsorption energies can migrate through the surface. The BE of the surface species with H2 substrate would be very different from that of a water substrate. However, adequate information regarding these differences is lacking. Here, we employ the quantum chemical calculation to provide the BE of 95 interstellar species with H2 substrate. These are representative of the BEs of species to a H2 overlayer on a grain surface. On average, we notice that the BE with the H2 monomer substrate is almost ten times lower than the BE of these species reported earlier with the H2 O c-tetramer configuration. The encounter desorption of H and H2 was introduced (with ED (H, H2 ) =45 K and ED (H2 , H2 ) =23 K) to have a realistic estimation of the abundances of the surface species in the colder and denser region. Our quantum chemical calculations yield higher adsorption energy of H2 than that of H (ED (H, H2 ) = 23 - 25 K and ED (H2, H2 ) =67 - 79 K). We further implement an astrochemical model to study the effect of encounter desorption with the resent realistic estimation. We present the results obtained from detailed timing and spectral studies of a black hole candidate MAXI~J1813-095 using {\it Swift}, {\it NICER}, and {\it NuSTAR} observations during its 2018 outburst. The timing behaviour of the source is mainly studied by using {\it NICER} light curves in a $0.5-10$ keV range. We did not find any signature of quasi-periodic oscillations in the power density spectra of the source. We carry out spectral analysis with a combined disk blackbody \& power-law model, and a physical two-component advective flow (TCAF) model. From the combined {\tt disk blackbody} \& {\tt power-law} model, we extracted thermal and non-thermal fluxes, photon index, and inner disk temperature. We also find evidence for weak reflection in the spectra. We have tested the physical TCAF model on a broadband spectrum from {\it NuSTAR} and {\it Swift}/XRT. The parameters like mass accretion rates, the size of the Compton clouds and the shock strength are extracted. Our result shows that the source remained in the hard state during the entire outburst which indicates a `failed' outburst. We estimate the mass of the black hole as $7.4 \pm 1.5$ $M_{\odot}$ from the spectral study with the TCAF model. We use {\tt LAOR} model for the Fe K$\alpha$ line emission. From this, the spin parameter of the black hole is estimated as $a^* > 0.76$. The inclination angle of the system is estimated to be in the range of $28^{\circ} - 45^{\circ}$ from the reflection model. Galactic short orbital period black hole candidate (BHC) XTE~J1752-223 was discovered on 2009 Oct 21 by the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE). We study the spectral properties of this outburst using transonic flow solution based two component advective flow (TCAF) model. TCAF model fitted spectrum gives an estimation of the physical flow parameters, such as the Keplerian disk rate, sub-Keplerian halo rate, properties of the so-called {\it{Compton cloud}}, other than the mass of the source and normalization ($N$). $N$ is a standardized ratio of emitted to observed photon flux in TCAF which does not include X-ray emission from jets. In the presence of jets, this ratio changes and this deviation is used to obtain the estimation of X-ray contribution from the jets. Nature of the jet is found to be compact during low luminous hard state and discrete or blobby during high luminous intermediate states. We find a correlation between the radio (5.5 GHz) and X-ray ($2.5-25$ keV) fluxes from different components. The radio ($F_R$) and jet X-ray ($F_{ouf}$) fluxes are found to be correlated within the acceptable range of the standard correlation ($0.6$ to $0.7$). We study the properties of the faint X-ray activity of Galactic transient black hole candidate XTE~J1908+094 during its 2019 outburst. Here, we report the results of detailed spectral and temporal analysis during this outburst using observations from {\it Nuclear Spectroscopic Telescope Array (NuSTAR)}. We have not observed any quasi-periodic-oscillations (QPOs) in the power density spectrum (PDS). The spectral study suggests that the source remained in the softer (more precisely in soft-intermediate) spectral state during this short period of the X-ray activity. We notice a faint but broad Fe K$\alpha$ emission line at around 6.5 keV. We also estimate the probable mass of the black hole to be $6.5^{+0.5}_{-0.7}~M_\odot$ with 90\% confidence.

In $2016-17$, the Galactic transient black hole candidate GRS 1716-249 exhibited an outburst event after a long period of quiescence of almost 23 years. The source remained in the outbursting phase for $\sim 9$ months. We study the spectral and temporal properties of the source during this outburst using archival data from four astronomy satellites, namely MAXI, Swift, NuSTAR and AstroSat. Initial spectral analysis is done using combined disk black body and power-law models. For a better understanding of the accretion flow properties, we studied spectra with the physical two component advective flow (TCAF) model. Accretion flow parameters are extracted directly from the spectral fits with the TCAF model. Low frequency quasi-periodic oscillations are also observed in the Swift/XRT and AstroSat/LAXPC data. From the nature of the variation of the spectral and temporal properties, we find the source remains in hard state during the entire outburst. It never had a transition to other states which makes this event a `failed' outburst. An absence of the softer spectral states is consistent with the class of short orbital period objects, where the source belongs to. From the spectral fit, we also estimate the probable mass of GRS~1716-249 to be in the range of $4.50-5.93 M_\odot$ or $5.02^{+0.91}_{-0.52} M_\odot$., Comment: 18 Pages, 8 Figures, 3 Tables (in Communication)

We perform a comparative spectro-temporal analysis on the variability classes of GRS 1915+105 and IGR J17091-3624 to draw inferences regarding the underlying accretion flow mechanism. The $\nu$, as well as C2 class Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer observation, have been considered for analysis. We investigate the intensity variation of the source in different energy domains that correspond to different components of the accretion flow and infer the relative dominance of these flow components during the dip/flare events. We correlate the dependence of the dynamic photon index ($\Theta$) with intensities in different energy bands and comment on the transition of the source to hard/soft phases during soft dips/flares. We also report the presence of sharp QPOs at \sim7.1 Hz corresponding to both softer and harder domain in the case of $\nu$ variability class of GRS 1915+105 and discuss the possible accretion flow configuration it suggests. Sharp QPO around \sim20 mHz is observed in $\nu$ and C2 classes of IGR J17091-3624 in low and mid energy band (2.0-6.0 keV and 6.0-15.0 keV), but remains undetected in high energy (15.0-60.0 keV). The 2.5-25.0 keV background-subtracted spectra have also been fitted with TCAF along with a Compton reflection component. We present the long-term X-ray spectral and temporal analysis of a 'bare-type AGN' Ark 120. We consider the observations from XMM-Newton, Suzaku, Swift, and NuSTAR from 2003 to 2018. The spectral properties of this source are studied using various phenomenological and physical models present in the literature. We report (a) the variations of several physical parameters, such as the temperature and optical depth of the electron cloud, the size of the Compton cloud, and accretion rate for the last fifteen years. The spectral variations are explained from the change in the accretion dynamics; (b) the X-ray time delay between 0.2-2 keV and 3-10 keV light-curves exhibited zero-delay in 2003, positive delay of 4.71 \pm 2.1 ks in 2013, and negative delay of 4.15 \pm 1.5 ks in 2014. The delays are explained considering Comptonization, reflection, and light-crossing time; (c) the long term intrinsic luminosities obtained using nthcomp, of the soft-excess and the primary continuum show a correlation with a Pearson Correlation Coefficient of 0.922. This indicates that the soft-excess and the primary continuum are originated from the same physical process. From a physical model fitting, we infer that the soft excess for Ark 120 could be due to a small number of scatterings in the Compton cloud. Using Monte-Carlo simulations, we show that indeed the spectra corresponding to fewer scatterings could provide a steeper soft-excess power-law in the 0.2-3 keV range. The fundamental difference between accretion around black holes and neutron stars is the inner boundary condition, which affects the behavior of matter very close to the compact objects. This leads to formation of additional shocks and boundary layers for neutron stars. Previous studies on the formation of such boundary layers focused on Keplerian flows that reached the surface of the star, either directly or through the formation of a transition layer. However, behavior of sub-Keplerian matter near the surface of a neutron star has not been studied in detail. Here, we study the effect of viscosity, in presence of cooling, on the sub-Keplerian flows around neutron stars, using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics. Our time-dependent study shows that multiple shocks, transition and boundary layers form in such type of accretion, when viscosity is significant, and one or more layers are absent when the viscosity is moderate. These flows are particularly of interest for the wind dominated systems such as Cir X-1. Recent studies show that accretion flows around weakly magnetic Neutron Stars undergo multiple shocks, before reaching the surface of the star, which contribute to the spectral and timing variabilities observed in the X-Rays. Here, we report, for the first time, the spectral properties of a unified model of shocked accretion flows around Neutron Stars, based on the Two-Component Advective Flow paradigm. We compare our theoretical results with the X-Ray spectral features of Z and Atoll sources, across different states. G31.41+0.31 is a well known chemically rich hot molecular core (HMC). Using Band 3 observations of Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), we have analyzed the chemical and physical properties of the source. We have identified methyl isocyanate (CH3NCO), a precursor of prebiotic molecules, towards the source. In addition to this, we have reported complex organic molecules (COMs) like methanol (CH3OH), methanethiol (CH3SH), and methyl formate (CH3OCHO). Additionally, we have used transitions from molecules like HCN, HCO+, SiO to trace the presence of infall and outflow signatures around the star-forming region. For the COMs, we have estimated the column densities and kinetic temperatures, assuming molecular excitation under local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) conditions. From the estimated kinetic temperatures of certain COMs, we found that multiple temperature components may be present in the HMC environment. Comparing the obtained molecular column densities between the existing observational results toward other HMCs, it seems that the COMs are favourably produced in the hot-core environment ($\sim 100$ K or higher). Though the spectral emissions towards G31.41+0.31 are not fully resolved, we find that CH$_3$NCO and other COMs are possibly formed on the grain/ice phase and populate the gas environment similar to other hot cores like Sgr B2, Orion KL, and G10.47+0.03, etc., Comment: 28 pages, 21 figures, 6 tables. The first identification of the argonium ion (ArH+) towards the Crab Nebula supernova remnant was proclaimed by the Herschel in the sub-millimeter and far-infrared domain. Very recently the discovery of the hydro-helium cation (HeH+) in the planetary nebula (NGC 7027) has been reported by using the SOFIA. The elemental abundance of neon is much higher than that of the argon. However, the presence of neonium ions (NeH+) is yet to be confirmed in space. Though the hydroxyl radicals (OH) are very abundant either in neutral or in the cationic form, hydroxyl cations of such noble gases (i.e., ArOH+, NeOH+, and HeOH+) are yet to be identified in space. Here, we employ a spectral synthesis code to examine the chemical evolution of the hydride and hydroxyl cations of the various isotopes of Ar, Ne, and He in the Crab Nebula filament and calculate their line emissivity and intrinsic line surface brightness. We successfully explain the observed surface brightness of two transitions of ArH+ (617 and 1234 GHz), one transition of OH+ (971 GHz), and one transition of H2 (2.12 micrometer). We also explain the observed surface brightness ratios between various molecular and atomic transitions. We find that our model reproduces the overall observed features when a hydrogen number density of ~10^4-10^6 cm^-3 and a cosmic-ray ionization rate per H2 of ~10^-11-10^-10 s^-1 are chosen. We discuss the possibility of detecting some hydride and hydroxyl cations in the Crab and diffuse cloud environment. Evolution of variability properties of Galactic transient sources is a diagnostic tool to understand various regimes of the accretion flow and its dynamics close to the central black hole. In this paper, we concentrate on the variability properties of the X-ray transient XTE J1650-500 and investigate the evolution of viscous delay, time lag, QPO frequency, and their energy dependence throughout the rising phase as observed by RXTE during its outburst in 2001. Our analysis reveals (1) a delay of 12 \pm 1 days between one day averaged hard (5-12 keV) and soft (1.5-3 keV) photon light-curves as observed by RXTE/ASM; (2) QPOs with high rms values are observed in lower energy (4-8 keV) range; (3) the QPO frequencies and associated time lags were anti-correlated during the initial days of the rising phase, and later on, they were found to be correlated; (4) the time lags of iron line photons with respect to hard and soft photons remained almost constant during the initial days of hard state and the lag magnitude increased during the state transition. We perform comparative studies with outbursts of GX 339-4 and XTE J1550-564. We find the evolution of time lags associated with the QPO characteristics during the outburst - stronger QPOs at low energy, and constant lags of broad Fe-line photons present a unique nature of outburst profile in XTE J1650-500. The 2015 Outburst of V404 Cygni is an unusual one with several X-ray and radio flares and rapid variation in the spectral and timing properties. The outburst occurred after $26$ years of inactivity of the black hole. We study the accretion flow properties of the source during its initial phase of the outburst using {\it Swift}/XRT and {\it Swift}/BAT data in the energy range of $0.5-150$ keV. We have done spectral analysis with the two-component advective flow (TCAF) model fits file. Several flow parameters such as two types of accretion rates (Keplerian disk and sub-Keplerian halo), shock parameters (location and compression ratio) are extracted to understand the accretion flow dynamics. We calculated equipartition magnetic field $B$ for the outburst and found that the highest $B \sim 900$~Gauss. Power density spectra (PDS) showed no break, which indicates no or very less contribution of the Keplerian disk component, which is also seen from the result of the spectral analysis. No signature of prominent quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) is observed in the PDS. Spectroscopic studies play a key role in the identification and analysis of interstellar ices and their structure. Some molecules have been identified within the interstellar ices either as pure, mixed, or even as layered structures. Absorption band features of water ice can significantly change with the presence of different types of impurities (CO, CO2, CH3OH, H2CO, etc.). In this work, we carried out a theoretical investigation to understand the behavior of water band frequency, and strength in the presence of impurities. The computational study has been supported and complemented by some infrared spectroscopy experiments aimed at verifying the effect of HCOOH, NH3 , and CH3 OH on the band profiles of pure H2O ice. Specifically, we explored the effect on the band strength of libration, bending, bulk stretching, and free-OH stretching modes. Computed band strength profiles have been compared with our new and existing experimental results, thus pointing out that vibrational modes of H2O and their intensities can change considerably in the presence of impurities at different concentrations. In most cases, the bulk stretching mode is the most affected vibration, while the bending is the least affected mode. HCOOH was found to have a strong influence on the libration, bending, and bulk stretching band profiles. In the case of NH3, the free-OH stretching band disappears when the impurity concentration becomes 50%. We study spectral and temporal properties of Galactic short orbital period transient black hole XTE J1118+480 during its 2005 outburst using archival data of RXTE PCA and HEXTE instruments in the combined energy range of $3-100$ keV. Spectral analysis with the physical two-component advective flow (TCAF) model allows us to understand the accretion flow properties of the source. We found that this outburst of XTE J1118+480 is an unconventional outburst as the source was only in the hard state (HS). Our spectral analysis suggests that during the entire outburst, the source was highly dominated by the low angular momentum sub-Keplerian halo rate. Since the source was active in radio throughout the outburst, we make an effort to estimate X-ray contribution of jets in total observed X-ray emissions from the spectral analysis with the TCAF model. The total X-ray intensity shows a similar nature of evolution as of radio and jet X-ray fluxes. This allowed us to define this `outburst' also as a jet dominated `outburst'. Total X-ray flux also found to subside when jet activity disappears. After hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon, nitrogen is one of the most chemically active species in the interstellar medium (ISM). Nitrogen bearing molecules have great importance as they are actively involved in the formation of biomolecules. Therefore, it is essential to look for nitrogen-bearing species in various astrophysical sources, specifically around high-mass star-forming regions where the evolutionary history is comparatively poorly understood. In this paper, we report the observation of three potential pre-biotic molecules, namely, isocyanic acid (HNCO), formamide (NH2CHO), and methyl isocyanate (CH3NCO), which contain peptide-like bonds (-NH-C(=O)-) in a hot molecular core, G10.47+0.03 (hereafter, G10). Along with the identification of these three complex nitrogen-bearing species, we speculate their spatial distribution in the source and discuss their possible formation pathways under such conditions. The rotational diagram method under the LTE condition has been employed to estimate the excitation temperature and the column density of the observed species. Markov Chain Monte Carlo method was used to obtain the best suited physical parameters of G10 as well as line properties of some species. We also determined the hydrogen column density and the optical depth for different continuum observed in various frequency ranges. Finally, based on these observational results, we have constructed a chemical model to explain the observational findings. Magnetic fields advected along with low angular momentum accretion flows predominantly become toroidal due to the strong azimuthal velocity close to a black hole. We study self-consistently the movements of these flux tubes inside an advective disc and how they dynamically influence the flow. We find that the centrifugal barrier slows down the radial motion of the flux tubes. In this case, the large magnetic flux tubes with a significant drag force escape along the vertical axis due to buoyancy. Magnetic pressure rises close to the black hole and together with the centrifugal force, it combats gravity. The tug-of-war among these forces causes the centrifugal pressure supported shock to oscillate radially. We study the effects of successive injection of flux tubes and find how the flux tube could be trapped inside the disc in regions of highest entropy. Most interestingly, the shock wave remains at its average location and is not destroyed. We show that the toroidal field loops contribute significantly to collimate and accelerate the outflows from the centrifugal barrier and suggest this mechanism to be a way to collimate and accelerate jets., Comment: 16 pages, 16 figures, accepted in ApJ

X-ray time lags are complicated in nature. The exact reasons for complex lag spectra are yet to be known. However, the hard lags, in general, are believed to be originated due to the inverse Comptonization process. But, the origin of soft lags remained mischievous. Recent studies on "Disk-Jet Connections" revealed that the jets are also contributing to the X-ray spectral and timing properties in a magnitude which was more than what was predicted earlier. In this article, we first show an exact anti-correlation between X-ray time lag and radio flux for XTE J1550-546 during its 1998 outburst. Indian Centre for Space Physics is engaged in studying terrestrial and extra-terrestrial high energy phenomena from meteorological balloon borne platforms. A complete payload system with such balloons is at the most about five kilograms of weight. One has to adopt innovative and optimal design for various components of the experiment, so that the data can be procured at decent heights of ~ 35-42 km and at the same time, some scientific goals are achieved. In this paper, we mainly describe the instruments in detail and present their test and calibration results. We discuss, how we implemented and tested three major instruments, namely, a Geiger-M\"uller counter, a single crystal scintillator detector and a phoswich type scintillator detector for our missions. We use existing light weight balloon facility of Indian Centre for Space Physics to detect the X-ray radiation from Crab pulsar with a phoswich detector. We present the design considerations and characterization of the detector used for this purpose. We model the background radiation in the detector environment at various altitudes and use this in spectral analysis. We use Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics to study viscous accretion flows around a weakly magnetic neutron star. We show the formation of multiple ``boundary" layers in presence of both cooling and viscosity. We find that with the introduction of a small viscosity in a sub-Keplerian flow, much like the wind accretion in HMXBs such as Cir X-1, only a single Normal Boundary Layer (NBOL) forms to adjust the rotational velocity component. With the increase of viscosity, the region extends radially and beyond some critical value, a RAdiative KEplerian Disk/layer (RAKED) forms between the sub-Keplerian flow and the NBOL. When viscosity is increased further only NBOL and RAKED remain. In all such cases, the CENtrifugal pressure dominated BOundary Layer (CENBOL) is formed, away from the star, as in the case of black holes. This is the first self-consistent study where such a transition from sub-Keplerian flows has been reported for neutron stars. We also identify the connection between accretion and ejection of matter, following the Two-Component Advective Flow for black holes, for neutron stars. The recent identification of the first complex chiral molecule, propylene oxide (PrO) in space opens up a new window to further study the origin of homochirality on the Earth. There are some recent studies to explain the formation of PrO however additional studies on the formation of this species are needed for better understanding. We seek to prepare a complete reaction network to study the formation of propylene oxide in the astrophysically relevant conditions. Based on our results, a detailed radiative transfer modeling has been carried out to propose some more transitions which would potentially be targeted in the millimeter wave domain. Gas-grain chemical network was used to explain the observed abundance of PrO in a cold shell surrounding the high-mass star-forming region of Sgr B2. Quantum chemical calculations were employed to study various reaction parameters and to compute multiple vibrational frequencies of PrO. To model the formation of PrO in the observed region, we considered a dark cloud model. Additionally, we used a model to check the feasibility of forming PrO in the hot core region. Some potential transitions in the millimeter wave domain are predicted which could be useful for the future astronomical detection. Radiative transfer modeling has been utilized to extract the physical condition which might be useful to know the properties of the source in detail. We present X-ray spectral analysis of Seyfert 1.5 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) NGC~4151 using \textit{NuSTAR} observation during 2012. This is the first attempt to fit an AGN data using the physical Two Component Advective flow (TCAF) solution. We disentangle the continuum emission properties of the source in the energy range $3.0$ to $70.0$~keV using the spectrum obtained from TCAF model. This model was used as an additive local model directly in {\fontfamily{qcr}\selectfont XSPEC}. Additionally, we used a power law (PL) component, to take care of possible X-ray contribution from the jet, which is not incorporated in the present version of TCAF. Our primary aim is to obtain the flow properties and the mass of the central supermassive black hole from the available archival data. Our best estimate of the average mass obtained from spectral fits of three observations, is $M_{BH}=3.03^{+0.26}_{-0.26}\times 10^7 M_\odot$. This is consistent with earlier estimations in the literature such as reverberation mapping, gas kinematics and stellar dynamics around black holes. We also discuss the accretion dynamics and the flow geometry on the basis of model fitted physical parameters. The class variable source GRS 1915+105 exhibits a wide range of time variabilities in time scales of a few seconds to a few days. Depending on the count rates in different energy bands and the nature of the conventional color-color diagram, the variabilities were classified into sixteen classes, which were later sequenced in ascending order of Comptonization Efficiency (CE). The CE is the ratio of the phenomenological power-law and disk blackbody model fitted spectral photon fluxes. For a better understanding of the flow dynamics in one of the variability classes, namely $\chi$, we fitted spectra with the physical two-component advective flow (TCAF) model. In $\chi$ class, X-ray flux is steady with no significant variation, however, various $\chi$ subclasses are observed at different X-ray flux and variations of count rates across different $\chi$ subclasses must be linked to the variation of flow parameters such as the accretion rates, be it the Keplerian disc rate and/or the low angular momentum halo rate. We find that in the $\chi_{2,4}$ classes, which are reportedly devoid of significant outflows, the spectra could be fitted well using TCAF solution alone. In the $\chi_{1,3}$ class, which are always linked with outflows, a cutoff power-law model is needed in addition to the TCAF solution. At the same time, the normalization required by this model along with the variation of photon index and exponential roll-off factor provides us with the information on the relative dominance of the outflow in the latter two classes. TCAF fit also provides us with the size and location of the Compton cloud along with its optical depth. The galactic black hole candidate Cygnus X-1, one of the brightest sources in the sky, is the first ever black hole candidate to be discovered. Despite being a very well-studied object due to its persistent brightness in X-rays, there has been much difficulty in determining its mass since its discovery. In spite of continuous efforts since the early nineteen seventies, there is yet no concensus on its mass for nearly four decades. The uncertainties in the mass measurements are due to the high degree of error involved in the measurement of its distance. In 2011, Orosz et al. constrained the mass of this object to be M = 14.8 +/- 1.0 M_Sun using dynamical methods. In this paper, we obtained the mass of Cygnus X-1, using a completely independent method, namely, carrying out the spectral analysis using Two Component Advective Flow (TCAF) solution based fits file and the archival data of RXTE PCA instrument. Our result does not require the distance of the source or the information about the companion. Each spectral fit with the TCAF gives one best fitted mass. Averaging fitted masses of Cygnus X-1 over a span of five months of observation during its persistent hard phase, mass of the source comes out to be M_avg = 14.20 +/- 0.36 M_Sun, which is consistent with the dynamically estimated mass., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, 1 table

The Galactic transient black hole candidate H 1743--322 exhibited a long duration outburst in 2003 after more than two and a half decades of inactivity. The 2003 event was extensively studied in multi-wavelength bands by many groups. The striking feature is that the total energy released is extremely high as compared to that in tens of outbursts which followed. In this paper, we look at this event and study both the spectral and temporal properties of the source using two component advective flow (TCAF) paradigm. We extract accretion flow parameters for each observation from spectral properties of the decay phase and determine the mass of the black hole. We computed the energy released during all the known outbursts since 2003 and showed that on an average, the energy release in an outburst is proportional to the duration of the quiescent state just prior to it, with the exception of the 2004 outburst. A constant rate of supply of matter from the companion cannot explain the energy release in 2004 outburst. However, if the energy release of 2003 is incomplete and the leftover is released in 2004, then the companion's rate of matter supply can be constant since 1977 till date. We believe that erratic behaviour of viscosity at the accumulation radius $X_p$ of matter as well as location the $X_p$ itself, rather than the random variation of mass transfer rate from the companion, could be responsible for non-uniformity in outburst pattern. We carry out the first robust numerical simulation of accretion flows on a weakly magnetized neutron star using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH). We follow the Two-Component Advective Flow (TCAF) paradigm for black holes, and focus only on the advective component for the case of a neutron star. This low viscosity sub-Keplerian flow will create a normal boundary layer (or, NBOL) right on the star surface in addition to the centrifugal pressure supported boundary layer (or, CENBOL) present in a black hole accretion. These density jumps could give rise to standing or oscillating shock fronts. During a hard spectral state, the incoming flow has a negligible viscosity causing more sub-Keplerian component as compared to the Keplerian disc component. We show that our simulation of flows with a cooling and a negligible viscosity produces precisely two shocks and strong supersonic winds from these boundary layers. We find that the specific angular momentum of matter dictates the locations and the nature of oscillations of these shocks. For low angular momentum flows, the radial oscillation appears to be preferred. For flows with higher angular momentum, the vertical oscillation appears to become dominant. In all the cases, asymmetries w.r.t. the Z=0 plane are seen and instabilities set in due to the interaction of inflow and outgoing strong winds. Our results capture both the low and high-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations without invoking magnetic fields or any precession mechanism. The nature of lag variation of Galactic black holes remains enigmatic mostly because of nonlinear and non-local physical mechanisms which contribute to the lag of the photons coming from the region close to the central black holes. One of the widely accepted major sources of the hard lag is the inverse Comptonization mechanism. However, the exact reason or reasons for soft lags is yet to be identified. In this paper, we report a possible correlation between radio intensities of several outbursting Galactic black hole candidates and amounts of soft lag. The correlation suggests that the presence of major outflows or jets also change the disk morphology along the line of sight of the observer which produces soft lags., Comment: The article contains 10 pages and 6 figures. We explore spectral properties of a Two-Component Advective Flow (TCAF) around a neutron star. We compute the effects of thermal Comptonization of soft photons emitted from a Keplerian disc and the boundary layer of the neutron star by the post-shock region of a sub-Keplerian flow, formed due to the centrifugal barrier. The shock location $X_s$ is also the inner edge of the Keplerian disc. We compute a series of realistic spectra assuming a set of electron temperatures of the post-shock region $T_{CE}$, the temperature of the normal boundary layer (NBOL) $T_{NS}$ of the neutron star and the shock location $X_s$. These parameters depend on the disc and halo accretion rates ($\dot{m_d}$ and $\dot{m_h}$, respectively) which control the resultant spectra. We find that the spectrum becomes harder when $\dot{m}_h$ is increased. The spectrum is controlled strongly by $T_{NS}$ due to its proximity to the Comptonizing cloud since photons emitted from the NBOL cool down the post-shock region very effectively. The black hole transient H1743-322 exhibited several outbursts with temporal and spectral variability since its discovery in 1977. These outbursts occur at a quasi-regular recurrence period of around $0.5-2$ years, since its rediscovery in March 2003. We investigate accretion flow dynamics around the Low Mass X-ray Binary H1743-322 during its 2004 outburst using the RXTE/PCA archival data. We use Two Component Advective Flow (TCAF) solution to analyse the spectral data. From the fits with TCAF solution, we obtain day to day variation of physical accretion rates of Keplerian and sub-Keplerian components, size of the Compton cloud and its other properties. Analysis of the spectral properties of the 2004 outburst by keeping fitted normalization to be in a narrow range and its timing properties in terms of the presence and absence of QPOs, enable us to constrain the mass of the black hole in a range of $10.31 M_{\odot} - 14.07 M_{\odot}$ which is consistent with other estimates reported in the literature., Comment: 24 pages, 7 figures, 2 tables (Published in MNRAS)

Galactic transient black hole candidate (BHC) MAXI~J1836-194 was discovered on 2011 Aug 30, by MAXI/GSC and Swift/BAT. The source activity during this outburst was continued for ~3 months before entering into the quiescent state. It again became active in March 2012 and continued for another ~2 months. In this paper, 3-25 keV RXTE/PCA spectra of 2011 outburst and 0.5-10.0 keV Swift/XRT data during its 2012 outburst are analyzed with the two-component advective flow (TCAF) model based fits file in XSPEC. We calculate the X-ray contributions coming from jets/outflow using a newly developed method based on the deviation of the TCAF model normalization. We also studied the correlation between observed radio and estimated jet X-ray fluxes. The correlation indices ($b$) are found to be $1.79$, and $0.61$, when the 7.45 GHz VLA radio flux is correlated with the total X-ray and the jet X-ray fluxes in 3-25 keV range respectively. It has been found that the jet contributes in X-rays up to a maximum of 86\% during its 2011 outburst. We study transient Galatic black hole candidate MAXI~J1836-194 during its 2011 outburst using RXTE/PCA archival data. 2.5-25~keV spectra are fitted with Two Component Advective Flow (TCAF) model fits file as an additive table local model in XSPEC. From TCAF model spectral fits, physical parameters such as Keplerian disk rate, sub-Keplerian halo rate, shock location and compression ratio are extracted directly for better understanding of accretion processes around the BHC during this outburst. Low frequency quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) are observed sporadically during the entire epoch of the outburst, with a general trend of increasing frequency during rising and decreasing frequency during declining phases of the outburst, as in other transient BHCs. The nature of the variation of the accretion rate ratio (ratio of halo and disk rates) and QPOs (if observed), allows us to properly classify entire epoch of the outburst into following two spectral state, such as hard (HS), hard-intermediate (HIMS). These states are observed in the sequence of HS (Ris.) $\rightarrow$ HIMS (Ris.) $\rightarrow$ HIMS (Dec.) $\rightarrow$ HS (Dec.). This outburst of MAXI~J1836-194 could be termed as `failed' outburst, since no observation of soft (SS) and soft-intermediate (SIMS) spectral state are found during the entire outburst., Comment: 6 pages, 1 figure

We report a detailed spectral study of Swift~J1357.2-0933 low-mass X-ray binary during its 2017 outburst using {\it Swift} and {\it NuSTAR} observations. We fit the data with two component advective flow (TCAF) model and power-law model. We observe that the source is in hard state during the outburst, where the size of the Compton cloud changes significantly with disc accretion rate. The typical disc accretion rate for this source is $\sim 1.5-2.0~\%$ of the Eddington accretion rate $(\dot M_{Edd})$. The model fitted intermediate shock compression ratio gives an indication of the presence of jet, which is reported in the literature in different energy bands. We also split NuSTAR data into three equal segments and fit with the model. We check spectral stability using color-color diagram and accretion rate ratio (ARR) vs. intensity diagram using different segments of the light curve but do not find any significant variation in the hardness ratio or in the accretion rate ratio. To estimate the mass of the candidate, we use an important characteristics of TCAF that the the model normalization always remains a constant. We found that the mass comes out to be in the range of $4.0-6.8~M_\odot$. From the model fitted results, we study the disc geometry and different physical parameters of the flow in each observation. We study time evolution of sub-Keplerian transonic accretion flows onto black holes using a general relativistic numerical simulation code. We perform simulations around the black holes having non-zero rotation. We first compare one-dimensional simulation results with theoretical results and validate the performance of our code. Next, we present results of axisymmetric, two-dimensional simulation of advective flows. In the literature, there is no solution which describes steady shock solutions in two dimensions. However, our simulations produce these centrifugal force supported steady shock waves even in presence of strong dragging of inertial frames. Since the post-shock region could be hot and upscatter photons through Comptonization, these shock would put imprints on the spectra. Thus, our solutions, which represent truly new results, could be useful to measure spins through radiation spectrum of accreting Kerr black holes., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS

We study several Galactic black hole candidates using long-time RXTE/ASM X-ray data to search for telltale signatures of differences in viscous timescales in the two components used in the Two-Component Advective Flow (TCAF) paradigm. In high-mass X-ray binaries (HMXBs) mainly winds are accreted. This nearly inviscid and dominant sub-Keplerian flow falls almost freely towards the black hole. A standard Keplerian disc can form out of this sub-Keplerian matter in presence of a significant viscosity and could be small in size. However, in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs), highly viscous and larger Keplerian accretion disc is expected to form inside the sub-Keplerian disc due to the Roche-lobe overflow. Due to two viscous timescales in these two components, it is expected to have a larger lag between the times-of-arrival of these components in LMXBs than that in HMXBs. Direct cross-correlation between the photon fluxes will not reveal this lag/delay since they lack linear dependence; however, they are coupled through the viscous processes which bring in both matter. To quantify the aforesaid time lag, we introduce an index ({\Theta}), which is a proxy of the usual photon index ({\Gamma}). Thus, when {\Theta}, being dynamically responsive to both fluxes, is considered as a reference, the arrival time lag between the two fluxes in LMXBs is found to be much larger than that in HMXBs. Our result establishes the presence of two dynamical components in accretion and shows that the Keplerian disc size indeed is smaller in HMXBs as compared to that in LMXBs.

Using black body and power-law photon counts of All Sky Monitor (ASM) in Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) satellite it has been established recently by us that there is a significant time lag between the infall timescales of two components in the Two-Component Advective Flow (TCAF) paradigm, where a standard slow moving Keplerian disc is surrounded by a fast moving halo. The time lag is clearly due to the difference in viscosity in the flow components and the size of the Keplerian disc may be considered to be proportional to the arrival time lag. In this paper, using RXTE/ASM (1.5-12 keV) data, we examine eight successive outbursts of the low-mass X-ray binary H 1743-322 since 2003 from a new angle. A dynamic photon index, {\Theta} indicates that the size of the Keplerian disc is biggest during the brightest outburst of 2003. The size diminishes thereafter during subsequent weaker outbursts. These results are corroborated when two energy fluxes corresponding to the two flows are cross-correlated with reference to {\Theta}. Moreover, {\Theta} decides spectral transitions of any outburst. We show from the behaviour of {\Theta} alone that the outburst of October 2008 was an anomalous outburst. In fact, each normal outburst was either preceded or followed by an otherwise premature outburst. This makes H 1743-322 an enigmatic source and a subject of further study.

We analyze several outbursts of a few transient sources using Proportional Counter Array (PCA) data (2.5-25 keV) as well as All Sky Monitor (ASM) data (1.5-12 keV) of Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) satellite. We find a time delay between the arrival times of the Keplerian disc component and the halo of the Two-Component Advective Flow (TCAF) when the spectral data is fitted with TCAF solution. We compare this time delay from the spectral fits with the TCAF solution of the transient low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) e.g., GX 339-4, H 1743-322 and MAXI J1836-194 with that of the high mass X-ray Binary (HMXB), Cyg X-1. We find that several days of time delays are observed in LMXBs while for Cyg X-1 the delay is negligible. We interpret the large delay to be due to the viscous delay of a large Keplerian component to reach the inner region as compared to nearly free-fall time taken by the low angular momentum halo component. The delay is of the order of a few days for the low mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) where the feeding is primarily through the Roche-lobe. However, it is negligible in a wind-fed system like Cyg X-1 since a very small Keplerian disc is created here by slowly redistributing the low angular momentum of the wind. As a consequence, sporadic soft or intermediate spectral states are observed.
