Critical fluctuations play a fundamental role in determining the spin orders for low-dimensional quantum materials, especially for recently discovered two-dimensional (2D) magnets. Here we employ the quantum decoherence imaging technique utilizing nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond to explore the critical magnetic fluctuations and the associated temporal spin noise in van der Waals magnet $\rm{Fe_{3}GeTe_{2}}$. We show that the critical fluctuation contributes to a random magnetic field characterized by the noise spectra, which can be changed dramatically near the critical temperature $T_c$. A theoretical model to describe this phenomenon is developed, showing that the spectral density is characterized by a $1/f$ noise near the $T_c$, while away from this point it behaves like a white noise. The crossover at a certain temperature between these two situations is determined by changing of the distance between the sample and the diamond. This work provides a new way to study critical fluctuation and to extract some of the critical exponents, which may greatly deepen our understanding of criticality in a wide range of physical systems.

Obtaining the solutions of partial differential equations based on various machine learning methods has drawn more and more attention in the fields of scientific computation and engineering applications. In this work, we first propose a coupled Extreme Learning Machine (called CELM) method incorporated with the physical laws to solve a class of fourth-order biharmonic equations by reformulating it into two well-posed Poisson problems. In addition, some activation functions including tangent, gauss, sine, and trigonometric (sin+cos) functions are introduced to assess our CELM method. Notably, the sine and trigonometric functions demonstrate a remarkable ability to effectively minimize the approximation error of the CELM model. In the end, several numerical experiments are performed to study the initializing approaches for both the weights and biases of the hidden units in our CELM model and explore the required number of hidden units. Numerical results show the proposed CELM algorithm is high-precision and efficient to address the biharmonic equation in both regular and irregular domains.

Non-collinear spin order that breaks space inversion symmetry and allows efficient electric-field control of magnetism makes BiFeO$_3$ a promising candidate for applications in low-power spintronic devices. Epitaxial strain effects have been intensively studied and exhibit significant modulation of the magnetic order in BiFeO$_3$, but tuning its spin structure with continuously varied uniaxial strain is still lacking up to date. Here, we apply \emph{in situ} uniaxial strain to a freestanding BiFeO$_3$ film and use scanning NV microscope to image the nanoscale magnetic order in real-space. The strain is continuously increased from 0\% to 1.5\% and four images under different strains are acquired during this period. The images show that the spin cycloid tilts by $\sim 12.6^\circ$ when strain approaches 1.5\%. A first principle calculation has been processed to show that the tilting is energetically favorable under such strain. One of the most intriguing advantage of Floquet engineering is to generate new phases with large topological invariants. In this work, we experimentally simulate a periodically quenched generalized Haldane model on an NV center in diamond, and observe its Floquet Chern insulator phases with Chern numbers $C=1,2,4$ by imaging the static and dynamic spin textures in momentum space. Our work reveals the power of Floquet driving in transforming system's topology and generating large Chern number phases. Acoustic mixing of droplets is a promising way to implement biosensors that combine high speed and minimal reagent consumption. To date, this type of droplet mixing is driven by a volume force resulting from the absorption of high-frequency acoustic waves in the bulk of the fluid. Here, we show that the speed of these sensors is limited by the slow advection of analyte to the sensor surface due to the formation of a hydrodynamic boundary layer. We eliminate this hydrodynamic boundary layer by using much lower ultrasonic frequencies to excite the droplet, which drives a Rayleigh streaming that behaves essentially like a slip velocity. Three-dimensional simulations show that this provides a threefold speedup compared to Eckart streaming. Experimentally, we shorten a SARS-CoV-2 antibody immunoassay from 20 min to 40 s.

Quantum coherence is the most fundamental of all quantum quantifiers, underlying other well-known quantities such as entanglement, quantum discord, and Bell correlations. It can be distributed in a multipartite system in various ways -- for example, in a bipartite system it can exist within subsystems (local coherence) or collectively between the subsystems (global coherence) and exhibits a trade-off relation. In quantum systems with more than two subsystems, there are more trade-off relations, due to the various decomposition ways of the coherence. In this paper, we experimentally verify these coherence trade-off relations in adiabatically evolved quantum systems using a spin system by changing the state from a product state to a tripartite entangled state. We study the full set of coherence trade-off relations between the original state, the bipartite product state, the tripartite product state, and the decohered product state. We also experimentally verify the monogamy inequality and show that both the quantum systems are polygamous except for the initial product state. We find that despite the different types of states involved, the properties of the state in terms of coherence and monogamy are equivalent. On September 10 2017, a fast coronal mass ejection (CME) erupted from the active region (AR) 12673, leading to a ground level enhancement (GLE) event at Earth. Using the 2D improved Particle Acceleration and Transport in the Heliosphere (iPATH) model, we model the large solar energetic particle (SEP) event of 10 September 2017 observed at Earth, Mars and STEREO-A. Based on observational evidence,we assume that the CME-driven shock experienced a large lateral expansion shortly after the eruption, which is modelled by a double Gaussian velocity profile in this simulation. We use the in-situ shock arrival times and the observed CME speeds at multiple spacecraft near Earth and Mars as constraints to adjust the input model parameters. The modelled time intensity profiles and fluence for energetic protons are then compared with observations. Reasonable agreements with observations at Mars and STEREO-A are found. The simulated results at Earth differ from observations of GOES-15. Instead, the simulated results at a heliocentric longitude 20 degree west to Earth fit reasonably well with the GOES observation. This can be explained if the pre-event solar wind magnetic field at Earth is not described by a nominal Parker field. Our results suggest that a large lateral expansion of the CME-driven shock and a distorted interplanetary magnetic field due to previous events can be important in understanding this GLE event., Comment: Manuscript has been accepted by Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics

We analyze a basis-independent definition of quantum coherence. The maximally mixed state is used as the reference state, which allows for a way of defining coherence that is invariant under arbitrary unitary transformations. The basis-independent approach is applied to finding the distri- bution of the coherence within a multipartite system, where the contributions due to correlations between the subsystems and within each subsystem are isolated. The use of the square root of the Jensen-Shannon divergence allows for inequality relations to be derived between these quantities, giving a geometrical picture within the Hilbert space of the system. We describe the relationship between the basis-independent and the basis-dependent approaches, and argue that many advan- tages exist for the former method. The formalism is illustrated with several numerical examples which show that the states can be characterized in a simple and effective manner.
